The significance of Linked Open Data datasets for traffic information extends beyond just including open traffic data. It incorporates links to other relevant thematic datasets available on the web. This enables federated queries across different data platforms from various countries and sectors, such as transport, geospatial, environmental, weather, and more. Businesses, researchers, national operators, administrators, and citizens at large can benefit from having dynamic traffic open data connected to heterogeneous datasets across Member States. This paper focuses on the development of a semantic model that enhances the basic service to access open traffic data through a LOD-enhanced Traffic Information System in alignment with the ITS Directive (2010/40/EU). The objective is not limited to just viewing or downloading data but also to improve the extraction of meaningful information and enable other types of services that are only achievable through LOD. By structuring the information using the RDF format meant for machines and employing SPARQL for querying, LOD allows for comprehensive and unified access to all datasets. Considering that the European standard DATEX II is widely used in many priority areas and services mentioned in the ITS Directive, LOD DATEX II was developed as a complementary approach to DATEX II XML. This facilitates the accessibility and comprehensibility of European traffic data and services. As part of this development, an ontological model called dtx_srti, based on the DATEX II Ontology, was created to support these efforts.

Road traffic emergencies are dangerous and unexpected situations that require immediate actions by the authorities. These actions involve to attend to the people who have been affected by the emergency and to minimize its consequences. A Traffic Management Plan (TMP) is a set of pre-defined measures and actions designed to produce an effective and efficient use of available resources in order to deal with a specific road incident. The operational phase of a TMP involves the coordination of several independent agencies (road managers, traffic police, firemen, etc.). These agencies must provide the resources required by the TMP in the deployment of the measures and actions. In this paper, a new framework to support the TMP operational phase is presented. This framework models each agency as an intelligent agent and it uses a reverse combinatorial distributed auction as the core component of a negotiation process. The goal of this negotiation process is to obtain a common agreement on the best possible allocation of resources taking into account the role, competencies and interest of the involved agencies. The framework has been implemented in a real scenario with real data. The tests developed have demonstrated that the system is able to manage the resources in terms of the execution time and the quality of the provided solutions.

Background: Dry matter (DM) loss is high in sugarcane silage due to its high content of soluble carbohydrates which favors yeast growth and ethanol production, thus reducing the nutritional value of the preserved forage. Objective: To determine the effect of adding two types of urea at two concentration levels to sugarcane silage on the nutritional value and fermentative characteristics of the silage. Methods: A completely randomized 2×2+1 factorial design was used, based on two types of urea (conventional and protected), two urea concentration (0.5 and 1.0% of the natural matter), and a control (sugarcane silage with no additives). Six replicates were used. The mixture was placed in PVC silos and opened after 60 days. Results: There was no difference in DM content or effluent losses by the addition of urea. In regards to neutral detergent fiber, acid detergent fiber, and lignin, decreased levels were observed compared to the control, regardless of urea type. Urea type and concentration had an effect on ammoniacal nitrogen content, with higher values for conventional urea, but not affecting the pH. The addition of urea to sugarcane silage reduced gas losses and raised the levels of crude protein, ether extract, and effective degradability. Conclusion: Adding protected or conventional urea at 1% of natural matter at the time of sugarcane ensiling reduces gas losses and improves nutritional composition of the silage.

Aim of study: The aim of this work was to study the effect of different length of physical activity carried out by the bull prior to the show during the final performance of the animal, analyzing the behavior and physical activity displayed in the ring. Area of study: There is no clear scientific evidence of physical capacity improvements during the lidia show or “corrida”, in Lidia cattle, as a result of previous training. Material and methods: A total of 233 bulls from eight farms were studied and classified, on each farm, into three groups according to the length of the training period: group 1 (no training), group 2 (training for 3 months prior to the show) and group 3 (training for 6-9 months prior to the show). Locomotion times or percentage of time the animals moved were quantified, and number of falls, their severity and distribution during the show were registered. Main results: Trained animals performed last phase of the “corrida” show with a significantly longer length compared to untrained animals. Furthermore, they remained longer in motion during the initial phase of the “corrida”. However, trained animals experienced more falls of type 1 and 2 during the last phase (“muleta”). Research highlights: A training period of up to 3 months before the show is positive, providing animals a greater physical performance, improving the quality of the lidia show. However, longer training periods over 3 months prior to the show, can negatively affect the performance of these bulls during the “corrida”.

Mitral stenosis (MS) is a consequence of rheumatic heart disease that leads to heart failure requiring mechanical intervention. Percutaneous mitral commissurotomy (PMC) is the treatment of choice for the intervention, and currently there are no soluble markers associated with hemodynamic improvement after PMC. This study aims to determine the changes in cytokine/chemokine plasma levels, as well as T cell activation after PMC, and to investigate their association with immediate hemodynamic improvement and clinical outcomes. Plasma samples from eighteen patients with well-defined MS who underwent PMC and 12 healthy controls were analyzed using BioPlex immunoassay. We observed that 16 out of the 27 (60%) molecules assessed were altered in patients' plasma pre-PMC as compared to control group. Of those, IL-1β, IL-12, IL-6, IL-4, PDGF, and CCL11 showed significant decrease after PMC. Stratifying the patients according to adverse outcome after a 28-month median follow up, we detected a significant reduction of IL-1β, IL-12, IL-6, IL-4, IFN-γ, CXCL-10, VEGF, FGF and PDGF post-PMC in patients without events, but not in those who presented adverse events during the follow-up. Patients with adverse outcomes had lower IL-10 pre-PMC, as compared to the ones without adverse events. In addition, the frequency of CD8+ activated memory cells was increased after PMC, while the frequency of CD4+ activated memory cells did not change. Our results show an association between the decrease of specific cytokines and changes in T cell activation with hemodynamic improvement post-PMC, as well as with long-term outcomes, suggesting their possible use as soluble markers for hemodynamic recovery after MS intervention.

There are limited published data in the bovine species on blood biological variables in response to intense work or after significant physical exertion. Lidia cattle, in addition to their exercise components, have some behavioral agonistic features that make them more susceptible to stress. The bullfight involves stress and exercise so intense that it causes significant changes in some metabolic variables. The study objective was to evaluate changes in blood biological variables in response to intense exercise and stress. After the fight in the arena, and once the bulls were dead (n = 438), blood samples were taken, and some biochemical and hormonal variables were determined in venous blood. A descriptive analysis was performed using the Statistica 8.0. computer program. The mean (±s.d.) results obtained were: total protein (85.8 ± 10.8 g/dL), albumin (3.74 ± 4.3 g/dL), triglycerides (39.65 ± 0.16 mg/dL), cholesterol (2.44 ± 0.03 mmol/L), glucose (22.2 ± 9.6 mmol/L), uric acid (340 ± 80 µmol/L), creatinine (236.9 ± 0.4 µmol/L), urea (5.93 ± 1.27 mmol/L), LDH (2828 ± 1975 IU/L), CK (6729 ± 10,931 IU/L), AST (495 ± 462 IU/L), ALP (90 ± 33 IU/L), GGT (50 ± 34 IU/L), ALT (59 ± 35 IU/L), cortisol (117.5 ± 46.6 nmol/L), and testosterone (20.2 ± 23.8 nmol/L). Most of the measured variables clearly increased; thus, we found severe hyperglycemia and increases in LDH, AST, GGT, and ALT enzymes, particularly in CK. The increases in all these variables are justified by the mobilization of energy sources, tissue/muscle damage, and dehydration due to continued stress and intense exercise.

Minerals are inorganic substances present in all body tissues and fluids that directly or indirectly influence the maintenance of multiple metabolic processes and, therefore, are essential for the development of various biological functions. The Lidia bull breed may be considered an athlete, as during a bull fight it displays considerable physical effort of great intensity and short duration in a highly stressful situation. The objective of this study was to assess plasma minerals concentration (macro- and microminerals) in Lidia bulls after intense physical exercise during a bull fight. Plasma Ca, Mg, P, K, Na, Fe, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Se and Mo concentrations were measured in 438 male Lidia bulls. Ca, P and Mg were measured using a Cobas Integra autoanalyzer, while Na and K were determined by ICP-AES, and Fe, Cr, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn, Se and Mo were measured by ICP-MS. All macrominerals, (Ca: 2.96 ± 0.31, Mg: 1.27 ± 0.17, P: 3.78 ± 0.65, K: 7.50 ± 1.58, Na: 150.15 ± 19.59 in mmol/L), and Cr (1.24 ± 0.58), Ni (0.249 ± 1.07), Cu (22.63 ± 4.84) and Zn (24.14 ± 5.59, in μmol/L) showed greater mean values than the reported reference values in the published literature, while Co (0.041 ± 0.07), Se (0.886 ± 0.21) and Mo (0.111 ± 0.08, in μmol/L) values were lower than those reported for other bovine breeds. These increased concentrations could be justified mainly by muscle cell metabolism, hepatic need to provide energy, and intense dehydration and hemoconcentration by losses through sweat glands or urination.

Panoramic dental radiography is one of the most used images of the different dental specialties. This radiography provides information about the anatomical structures of the teeth. The correct evaluation of these radiographs is associated with a good quality of the image obtained. In this study, 598 patients were consecutively selected to undergo dental panoramic radiography at the Department of Radiology of the Faculty of Dentistry, Universidad Nacional de Asunción. Contrast enhancement techniques are used to enhance the visual quality of panoramic dental radiographs. Specifically, this article presents a new algorithm for contrast, detail and edge enhancement of panoramic dental radiographs. The proposed algorithm is called Multi-Scale Top-Hat transform powered by Geodesic Reconstruction for panoramic dental radiography enhancement (MSTHGR). This algorithm is based on multi-scale mathematical morphology techniques. The proposal extracts multiple features of brightness and darkness, through the reconstruction of the marker (obtained by the Top-Hat transformation by reconstruction) starting from the mask (obtained by the classic Top-Hat transformation). The maximum characteristics of brightness and darkness are added to the dental panoramic radiography. In this way, the contrast, details and edges of the panoramic radiographs of teeth are improved. For the tests, MSTHGR was compared with the following algorithms: Geodesic Reconstruction Multiscale Morphology Contrast Enhancement (GRMMCE), Histogram Equalization (HE), Brightness Preserving Bi-Histogram Equalization (BBHE), Dual Sub-Image Histogram Equalization (DSIHE), Minimum Mean Brightness Error Bi-Histogram Equalization (MMBEBHE), Quadri-Histogram Equalization with Limited Contrast (QHELC), Contrast-Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE) and Gamma Correction (GC). Experimentally, the numerical results show that the MSTHGR obtained the best results with respect to the Contrast Improvement Ratio (CIR), Entropy (E) and Spatial Frequency (SF) metrics. This indicates that the algorithm performs better local enhancements on panoramic radiographs, improving their details and edges.

Objetivou-se levantar e avaliar os componentes principais das características de carcaças de bovinos anelorados e fontes de variação em lesões. Utilizou-se um banco de dados com informações de 15.002 carcaças de bovinos anelorados. As variáveis levantadas foram peso da carcaça quente, conformação da carcaça, escore de gordura subcutânea, condição sexual, número de dentes incisivos, lesões e distância percorrida da propriedade rural ao abatedouro. Também foi considerado o sistema de terminação dos bovinos por meio da comunicação pessoal do técnico responsável pelo rebanho. Para entender o relacionamento das variáveis descritas, utilizaram-se a correlação dos componentes principais e as variáveis originais, os planos fatoriais, o círculo unitário, a análise de cluster e testes não-paramétricos. O escore de gordura subcutânea, a condição sexual, o peso da carcaça quente, o número de dentes e a propriedade rural, compuseram 68,26% da variação total. A conformação das carcaças e o sistema de terminação explicaram uma baixa parcela da variabilidade. As variáveis: propriedade rural (distância percorrida), número de dentes incisivos, sistema de terminação e escore de gordura subcutânea, influenciaram o número de carcaças com lesões. A condição sexual, o peso da carcaça quente e a conformação da carcaça não alteraram a proporção de carcaças com lesões.

Team project-based learning (TPBL) combines two learning techniques: 1) project-based learning (PBL) and 2) teamwork. This combination leverages the learning outcomes of both methods and places students in a real work situation where they must develop and solve a real project while working as a team. TPBL has been used in two advanced database subjects in Jaume I University (UJI)'s Computer Science degree program. This learning method was used for four years (academic years from 2018/2019 to 2021/2022) with positive outcomes. This study presents the project development, which includes teamwork formation, activities, timetable, and exercised learning competencies (both soft and specific). Further, the project's results were evaluated from three different perspectives: 1) teamwork evaluation by teammates; 2) students' opinions on the subject and project; and 3) subject final grades.

The loss-of-function mutation of the FMR1 gene due to expansion of the 5' UTR CGG repeat causes the fragile X syndrome, the most frequent form of inherited mental retardation. On the other hand, the FMR1 premutation, which is transcriptionally active and produces the protein, confers an increased risk for premature ovarian failure (POF) to carrier females. Among 41 unrelated Brazilian women with idiopathic POF, we found three carriers of premutations (CGG expansionse > 59 repeats) and two carriers of high-intermediate alleles (50-55 repeats). Two premutations and two intermediate alleles were detected among the 16 familial POF cases, and one premutated woman, among the 25 sporadic cases. The premutation frequency among the familial cases (12.5%) differed significantly from that found in a control group of 96 unrelated Brazilian women aged > 47 years, who had not experience POF and in which no premutations or high-intermediate alleles were detected. In the search for factors influencing the probability of a premutation carrier presenting POF, another 20 unrelated premutated women with POF, from fragile X families, were included in the study. The analysis of the FMR1-linked loci DXS548 and FRAXAC1 did not indicate any association of a particular haplotype with the occurrence of POF. An effect of X-inactivation skewing was not apparent in blood cells, and POF-associated premutations showed a wide range of repeat sizes, from 59, the smallest known to expand to full mutations upon transmission to offspring, to approximately 200.

A long-baseline water tiltmeter (LBT) was constructed on the Pacific coast of Mexico to provide high precision tilt observations in a section of the subduction zone apparently undergoing interseismic-preseismic deformation phase. Continuous tilt complements GPS and vertical displacement (leveling) measurements by providing higher precision and continuous data. The plate interface is reasonably well located from local seismicity and gravity anomalies. Integrated geodetic and seismicity observations enabled us to monitor the strain near the upper and lower ends of a seismogenic zone on which a future M~7.0 earthquake is nucleating. Predicting the future rupture may be possible because the instrument is two orders of magnitude more sensitive than other monitoring devices in the region. Main principles, technical features and installation procedure of the water LBT and some preliminary observations and results are presented.

Un inclinómetro de agua de base larga (LBT) se construyó en la costa del océano Pacífico de México para realizar observaciones de inclinación de alta precisión en una área de la zona de subducción, la cual aparentemente está en fase de deformación intersísmica- presísmica. El continuo monitoreo de la inclinación complementará las mediciones de GPS y de la deformación vertical (por nivelación) en esta área con datos continuos de alta precisión. La interfase sismogénica entre las placas tectónicas en la zona de subducción está razonablemente bien determinada a partir de la sismicidad local y de anomalías gravimétricas. La combinación de observaciones geodésicas y de sismicidad permiten monitorear la evolución de la deformación en los límites superior e inferior de la zona sismogénica en la cual es probable la ocurrencia de un sismo de M~7.0. Los datos del LBT se usarán de manera inmediata para aprender mucho acerca del proceso de carga tectónica que excita la ruptura sísmica. En este trabajo se analiza la dinámica emprendedora que están registrando los sectores manufactureros tradicionales (SMT) desde una perspectiva territorial. Para ello se estudian en las 3032 empresas textiles españolas creadas en el periodo 2000-09 algunas de sus principales características estructurales (localización y subsector de actividad principal). De acuerdo a la evolución seguida, los resultados obtenidos del análisis muestran que ésta ha sido negativa, especialmente en los territorios tipo distrito/cluster industrial y en los subsectores de menor intensidad tecnológica. Por ello, debido a la concentración y especialización productiva geográfica previa, esa dinámica está provocando una importante reorganización espacial de los SMT a lo largo de las distintas regiones productoras españolas.

O sêmen de doze tourinhos da raça Tabapuã, que se apresentou após a criopreservação dentro dos padrões andrológicos estabelecidos pelo CBRA (1998), foi submetido aos testes de termorresistência rápida e lenta, hiposmótico, reação acrossômica induzida pela heparina, teste da viabilidade espermática pelo azul de tripan pós-congelação e pós-incubação com a heparina e índice de prenhez na primeira inseminação artificial de novilhas Nelore. As médias das variáveis contínuas dos testes mencionados foram comparadas pelo teste Student–Newman–Keuls e das variáveis subjetivas foram comparadas pelo teste não paramétrico Kruskal-Wallis (p0,05) para prever o índice de prenhez, nem mesmo o modelo de regressão múltipla que incluía todas as variáveis. Concluiu-se que o modelo proposto neste estudo não foi efetivo para prever o índice de prenhez. O teste hiposmótico, por sua maior exequibilidade, pode ser sugerido para avaliar a integridade funcional e estrutural da membrana plasmática e capacidade das membranas acrossomais passarem pela reação acrossômica. En el trabajo se realiza un análisis acerca del uso de los sistemas integrados de gestión en las empresas del sector azucarero cubano. Se inicia con la conceptualización de los mismos y una evaluación de su utilidad para la organización, en coherencia con el perfeccionamiento de los procesos de dirección estratégica que hoy tienen lugar en la industria azucarera cubana. Finalmente se proponen algunas recomendaciones para el diseño e implementación de los sistemas integrados de gestión en el sector azucarero cubano.
