The corrosion inhibition of aluminium in 2 M H2SO4 by millet starch was investigated using gravimetric technique at 35-65OC and theoretical quantum chemical computations. The results indicate that millet starch functioned as a good inhibitor for acid induced corrosion of aluminium. It was found that increase in inhibition efficiency of the inhibitor was concentration dependent and also addition of potassium iodide increased inhibitive performance of the inhibitor synergistically. Furthermore, the mode of adsorption process of the inhibitor was best modeled using Langmuir adsorption isotherm at all inhibitor concentrations and temperatures studied. The trend of inhibition efficiency with temperature, calculated values of free energy, activation energy and enthalpy of adsorption was used to propose the inhibition mechanism. Theoretical chemical quantum computations were carried out using density functional theory to underscore the relationship existing between the inhibitive performance of millet starch and electronic properties of millet starch. Finally, Molecular dynamic simulations were performed using Forcite quench molecular dynamics to model lowest energy adsorption configurations of the starch molecule on Al surface and to determine the binding energy of adsorption

Objectives. The objective of this study was to assess the effect that triple therapy (anticoagulation plus CS plus plasma exchange and/or IVIGs) has on the mortality risk of patients with catastrophic APS (CAPS) included in the CAPS Registry. Methods. Patients from the CAPS Registry were grouped based on their treatments: triple therapy; drugs included in the triple therapy but in different combinations; and none of the treatments included in the triple therapy. The primary endpoint was all-cause mortality. Multivariate logistic regression models were used to compare mortality risk between groups. Results. The CAPS Registry cohort included 525 episodes of CAPS accounting for 502 patients. After excluding 54 episodes (10.3%), a total of 471 patients with CAPS were included [mean (S.D.) age 38.5 years (17); 68.2% female primary APS patients 62%]. Overall, 174 (36.9%) patients died. Triple therapy was prescribed in 189 episodes (40.1%), other combinations in 270 (57.3%) and none of those treatments in 12 episodes (2.5%); the mortality rate in the three groups was 28.6, 41.1 and 75%, respectively. Triple therapy was positively associated with a higher chance of survival when compared with non-treatment [adjusted odds ratio (OR) = 9.7, 95% CI: 2.3, 40.6] or treatment with other combinations of drugs included in the triple therapy (adjusted OR = 1.7, 95% CI: 1.2, 2.6). No statistical differences were found between patients that received triple therapy with plasma exchange or IVIGs (P = 0.92). Conclusion. Triple therapy is independently associated with a higher survival rate among patients with CAPS. © The Author(s) 2018. Las metástasis óseas son frecuentes en el cáncer, apareciendo hasta en el 75% de las pacientes con cáncer de mama avanzado. Las complicaciones de las metástasis óseas incluyen dolor óseo, hipercalcemia y eventos relacionados con el esqueleto (EREs) como las fracturas, la necesidad de radioterapia o cirugía ósea y la compresión de la médula espinal. Presentamos a una paciente de 50 años diagnosticada de un cáncer de mama avanzado que sufrió múltiples eventos relacionados con el esqueleto y un empeoramiento de la calidad de vida. Bone metastases are common in advanced cancer, occurring up to 75% of patients with advanced breast cancer. Complications of bone metastases include bone pain, hypercalcemia and skeletal-related events (SERs), such as fracture, need for radiation or surgery to bone, or spinal cord compression. A 50 year-old patient with advanced breast cancer, who has multiple skeletal-related events and poorer overall quality of life.

Subcellular localization of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs) may be important in compartmentalization of cAMP/cGMP signaling responses. In 3T3-L1 adipocytes, mouse (M) PDE3B was associated with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) as indicated by its immunofluorescent colocalization with the ER protein BiP and subcellular fractionation studies. In transfected NIH 3006 or COS-7 cells, recombinant wild-type PDE3A and PDE3B isoforms were both found almost exclusively in the ER. The N-terminal portion of PDE3 can be arbitrarily divided into region 1 (aa 1-300), which contains a large hydrophobic domain with six predicted transmembrane helices, followed by region 2 (aa 301-500) containing a smaller hydrophobic domain (of approximately 50 aa). To investigate the role of regions 1 and 2 in membrane association, we examined the subcellular localization of a series of catalytically active, Flag-tagged N-terminal-truncated human (H) PDE3A and MPDE3B recombinants, as well as a series of fragments from regions 1 and 2 of MPDE3B synthesized as enhanced green fluorescent (EGFP) fusion proteins in COS-7 cells. In COS-7 cells, the localization of a mutant HPDE3A, lacking the first 189 amino acids (aa) and therefore four of the six predicted transmembrane helices (H3A-Delta189), was virtually identical to that of the wild type. M3B-Delta302 (lacking region 1) and H3A-Delta397 (lacking region 1 as well as part of region 2) retained, to different degrees, the ability to associate with membranes, albeit less efficiently than H3A-Delta189. Proteins that lacked both regions 1 and 2, H3A-Delta510 and M3B-Delta604, did not associate with membranes. Consistent with these findings, region 1 EGFP-MPDE3B fusion proteins colocalized with the ER, whereas region 2 EGFP fusion proteins were diffusely distributed. Thus, some portion of the N-terminal hydrophobic domain in region 1 plus a second domain in region 2 are important for efficient membrane association/targeting of PDE3.

El objetivo de SIOSE en Andalucía ha sido la obtención de una base cartográfica de referencia a escala de detalle 1:10.000, escalable a 1:25.000, donde se sintetizan e integran tanto la información geométrica como la temática de cartografías ya existentes (usos del territorio, SIGPAC, coberturas del suelo, información de comunidades fitosociológicas, redes de comunicación, superficies húmedas, red hidrográfica, zonas de extracción, balsas, entramado urbano, etc.) siguiendo un protocolo establecido para, posteriormente, actualizarla al año de referencia mediante fotointerpretación. La integración de las diferentes cartografías se fundamentó en la definición de unos valores mínimos de tolerancia, tanto de distancia entre líneas como de tamaño mínimo de superficie en función del uso asignado al polígono. La generación de la cartografía a escala 1:25.000 se llevó a cabo a través de procesos automáticos de cambio de modelo de datos, cambio de escala y eliminación de pasillos. La inquietud de abordar la experiencia de SIOSE-Andalucía nace de la necesidad detectada desde hace tiempo de tener una base de referencia que combine parámetros bióticos con elementos administrativos y el parcelario de la propiedad. The aim of SIOSE in Andalucía has been obtaining a detailed scale 1:10.000 cartographic database of reference, scalable to 1:25.000, where geometry and also thematic information of existing cartographies have been combined and joined (land uses, SIGPAC, land covers, phytosociological plant communities, communication network, humid areas, hydrographic network, extraction zones, irrigation pools, urban network, etc.) following an established protocol for, afterwards, updating the cartography to the referred year using photo-interpretation. The integration of different cartographies is based on the definition of minimum values of tolerance for the distance between lines as well as minimum sizes of area, depending on the assigned land use to each polygon. The production of cartography 1:25.000 was carried out through automatic processes of data model converter, scale change and elimination of narrowing polygons. The interest of tackling the experience of SIOSE-Andalucia is sprung from the detected necessity of having a resource which combines biotic parameters with administrative elements and property divisions.

Tras la finalización a finales de 2009 del proyecto SIOSE 2005 en Andalucía, se denota un alto grado de desactualización de la cartografía, en especial para las funciones de apoyo a la gestión a las que en principio estaba destinada. Es por ello que el lanzamiento de un nuevo proyecto de actualización de SIOSE a nivel estatal por parte de la Dirección General del Instituto Geográfico Nacional es percibido como una oportunidad para actualizar asimismo la base de referencia SIOSE Andalucía 1:10.000. Valiéndonos de la experiencia adquirida, se propone acometer una actualización metodológica que participe de la hoja de ruta trazada en la primera versión en muchos aspectos (colaboración entre Administraciones, uso de procedimientos técnicos desarrollados ex profeso, fotointerpretación descentralizada…), mejorándola en otros. Además, para poder dotar a las bases de esta dimensión gerenciales imprescindible que los plazos de ejecución no provoquen una brecha temporal que haga que las bases nazcan desactualizadas. Por tanto, además de la optimización de los recursos económicos, tan escasos en estos momentos, hay que procurar la maximización de la productividad, sin olvidar un elevado nivel de calidad de los productos finales, que garantice la compleción y la veracidad de los datos ofrecidos. On accomplishing the Andalusian project SIOSE 2005 in late 2009, the cartography is perceived highly outdated, especially regarding its suitability for management support, for which it was initially conceived. This is why the release of an update project for SIOSE at national level, supported by Directorate General of the National Geographic Institute, is seen as an opportunity for also updating de Andalusia’s SIOSE reference database on a 1:10.000 scale. Leaning on the experience acquired to this point, we propose to tackle a methodological update that could be integrated within the first release’s roadmap in many aspects (cooperation between administrations, use of specifically developed technical procedures, decentralized photo interpretation…), but also improving it in many others. Moreover, to be able to provide the databases with this managerial scope, it is essential that the implementation schedule avoid time gaps causing them to be outdated on their very release. Therefore, as well as optimizing economic resources, so limited for the time being, we have to focus on maximizing productivity, without neglecting a high-end product quality guaranteeing comprehensiveness and veracity of the offered data.

Este catálogo sinóptico incluye todas las plantas nativas de la Comarca del Andévalo y de la Sierra de Huelva (SO de España). Es uno de los resultados de un estudio sobre la fl ora y vegetación de este amplio territorio de la provincia de Huelva, iniciado en 2003. Incluye 1412 taxones (especies y subespecies), para cada uno de los cuales se indica el nombre aceptado, sinónimos más usados, nombres por los que se citan en las referencias bibliográfi cas citadas, distribución general, distribución en el área de estudio por unidades corológicas, hábitat, frecuencia y citas previas. Se añaden breves comentarios sobre determinados taxones., This synoptic checklist comprises all vascular plants native or naturalized of the Comarca del Andévalo and Sierra de Huelva (SW Spain). This is one of the results of a study on the fl ora and vegetation of this wide territory of Huelva province, developed from 2003 on. This checklist includes 1412 taxa (species and subspecies). For each taxon the following items are included: accepted name, selected synonyms, including the names used in the references given for each taxon, general distribution, distribution within the study area by chorological units, habitat, frequency and previous records. Short comments are added for some of the taxa.

Se ha llevado a cabo un estudio de las comunidades arbustivas seriales que aparecen en las comarcas del Andévalo y Sierra de Aracena en Huelva, haciendo un análisis de su variabilidad y distribución en la zona. Se han localizado las siguientes 14 comunidades: Genisto hirsutae-Cistetum ladaniferi, Ulici eriocladi-Cistetum ladaniferi, Phlomido purpureae-Cistetum albidi, Scillo maritimae-Lavanduletum pedunculatae, Erico australis-Cistetum populifolii, Halimio ocymoidis-Ericetum umbellatae, Ulici eriocladi-Ericetum umbellatae, Retamo sphaerocarpae-Cytisetum bourgaei, Genistetum polyanthi, Asparago albi-Rhamnetum oleoidis, Phlomido purpureae-Juniperetum turbinatae, Hyacinthoido hispanicae-Quercetum cocciferae, Phillyreo angustifoliae-Arbutetum unedonis y Senecioni lopezii-Quercetum lusitanicae, a las que habría que añadir una comunidad de la Alianza Genistion fl oridae, sin categoría de asociación. A partir de la distribución de estas comunidades, de su situación en las series de vegetación y de los datos actuales sobre el bioclima de la zona, se propone un esquema ecológicopaisajístico de distribución de series de vegetación en estas comarcas, reconociendo las siguientes: Myrto communis-Querceto rotundifoliae S., Pyro bourgaeanae-Querceto rotundifoliae S., Sanguisorbo agrimonioidis-Querceto suberis S. y Arbuto unedonis- Querceto pyrenaicae S A study about the serial shrub communities has been carried out for the Andevalo and Sierra de Aracena zones in Huelva, analyzing their variability and distribution in the area. 14 associations has been found: Genisto hirsutae-Cistetum ladaniferi, Ulici eriocladi-Cistetum ladaniferi, Phlomido purpureae-Cistetum albidi, Scillo maritimae-Lavanduletum pedunculatae, Erico australis-Cistetum populifolii, Halimio ocymoidis-Ericetum umbellatae, Ulici eriocladi-Ericetum umbellatae, Retamo sphaerocarpae-Cytisetum bourgaei, Genistetum polyanthi, Asparago albi-Rhamnetum oleoidis, Phlomido purpureae-Juniperetum turbinatae, Hyacinthoido hispanicae- Quercetum cocciferae, Phillyreo angustifoliae-Arbutetum unedonis and Senecioni lopezii-Quercetum lusitanicae, and one more community belonging to Genistion fl oridae Alliance, with no association category is located. According to the distribution of these communities, to their situation in the vegetation series and using recent bioclimate data, an ecological landscaping outline for the distribution of the vegetation series is proposed in the area, recognizing the next ones: Myrto communis-Querceto rotundifoliae S., Pyro bourgaeanae-Querceto rotundifoliae S., Sanguisorbo agrimonioidis-Querceto suberis S. and Arbuto unedonis-Querceto pyrenaicae S.

Dismorfología, Citogenética y Clínica: Resultados de estudios sobre los datos del ECEMC The aim of this chapter is to summarize updated knowledge about the clinical characteristics, etiology, genetic and molecular aspects, as well as mechanisms involved in syndromes having very low frequency, in order to promote their better recognition. During the last five years, a total of 30 syndromes have been published in this chapter of the Boletín del ECEMC. This issue includes the following selected syndromes: Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Apert, Saethre-Chotzen, Carpenter and Muenke. All share craniosynostosis as the main clinical feature but also present with other birth defects, the most important being limb malformations, specially syndactyly and polydactyly. Over 100 syndromes with craniosynostosis have been described, usually involving multiple sutures, and several of them are associated with limb malformations. The clinical overlapping between those syndromes makes difficult to perform a neonatal diagnosis, based on their clinical findings. However, molecular genetic testing, specifically of the FRGR1-3 and TWIST1 genes, could help to establish the diagnosis of some of them. Early diagnosis is important for establishing the most suitable treatment for each patient, as well as to offer an accurate genetic counselling and the possibility of preimplantational and/or prenatal diagnosis. Dismorfología, Citogenética y Clínica: Resultados de estudios sobre los datos del ECEMC Monosomy 10p is a rare chromosomal anomaly having quite variable clinical expression, showing in some patients the DiGeorge anomaly. Here we report a malformed newborn, whose high resolution G-band karyotype showed an abnormal short arm of chromosome 10 (10p). Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis with the subtelomeric regions probes for 10p/10q showed both signals at normal position, what helped to interpreted the anomaly as an interstitial 10p deletion. Paternal chromosomes were normal. Thus the karyotype was 46,XY,del(10p)( p11.23;p15.1).ish tel(10p)x2 "de novo". The clinical features of this patient are a mixture of some anomalies clearly related to the 10p deletion, together with other that are typical of the Ritscher-Schinzel syndrome (SR-S). This article discusses the contents of the Document sources of the Information Service on Disability (DIS) which focuses on dissertations and journal articles as these are considered to be of greater interest on account of their depth of analysis and research and their currency. A series of products are elaborated as information search aids: dossiers of documents grouped according to subject from different journals which offer the contents of the most relevant Spanish scientific journals on disabilities; a quarterly contents page bulletin giving the indexes of the most relevant national and international scientific journals. Thematic grouping of dossiers is carried out according to user demand and reports on issues suggested by users are also prepared periodically. En este artículo mostramos el contenido de una de las secciones que conforman el Servicio de Información sobre Discapacidad (SID), la de Fuentes Documentales, centrándonos en las tesis y artículos de revistas por considerarlas de mayor interés por su profundidad de análisis, investigación y actualidad. Como ayuda en la búsqueda de información se realizan una serie de productos, como son dossieres documentales, que van a agrupar la información temáticamente, vaciados de diferentes revistas, que nos ofrecen el contenido de las revistas científicas españolas.
