The EU Floods Directive (2007/60/EC) has the purpose to establish a framework for the flood risks assessment and management. It requires the implementation of coordinated measures on a basin-wide level for the reduction of adverse consequences to human health and life. However, mainly direct fatalities are taken into consideration in these plans. To develop more integrated and adaptive risk management and governance it is important to include both direct and indirect consequences. To define effective measures clearer understanding of the relation between floods and impact on human health is needed. We present a first attempt to provide a roadmap for the inclusion of health issues of concern to flood risk management within the Sava River Basin as an example. An overview of the potential flood effects to health issues was made and a roadmap plan was set up to analyse and map these flood risks. We concluded that indirect health effects can contribute significantly to the overall adverse consequences to health, and although relations are complex, a preliminary assessment could be made. Mapping of adverse consequences to health issues in the planning stages should lead to systemic insights and proposed measures in the prevention, protection, and preparedness while considering the characteristics of the river basin or sub-basins. Het wordt daarmee voor waterbeheerders steeds lasti ger om inzicht te krijgen in de effecten van al die stoffen, en die kennis vervol gens te relateren aan bronnen, zodat de juiste beheersmaatregelen genomen kunnen worden. Hoe maken we toxiciteit van individuele stoffen, stofgroepen en stofmengsels inzichtelijk en hanteerbaar?

In de Kennisimpuls Waterkwaliteit werken overheden en kennisinstitutensamen om de waterkwaliteitte verbeteren. Dat is nodigomdat de gunstige ontwikkeling van de waterkwaliteitstagneert; het Planbureauvoor de Leefomgeving gafeerder dit jaar aan dat dedoelen van de KaderrichtlijnWater lang niet overal worden gehaald.

Schoon oppervlaktewater zonder microverontreinigingen – wie wil dat niet? Maar we gebruiken meer dan 100.000 chemische stoffen! Maatregelen zijn nodig, maar welke? Wat heb je aan kennis over individuele stoffen? En hoe onderzoek je mengsels? Met de Ecologische Sleutelfactor Toxiciteit (ESF-Toxiciteit) wordt het mogelijk om heel precies de stoffen en de plekken met de grootste risico’s te identificeren.

This Executive summary presents the methodology and main conclusions of the study supporting the Fitness Check of the following Directives: - Directive 2000/60/EC establishing a framework for Community action in the field of water policy; - Directive 2006/118/EC on the protection of groundwater against pollution and deterioration; - Directive 2008/105/EC on environmental quality standards in the field of water policy; and - Directive 2007/60/EC on the assessment and management of flood risks. The study has been delivered by Wood together with Trinomics B.V., Wageningen Environmental Research (WENR) part of Wageningen University & Research, and Deltares. The aim of the report is to present our conclusions on the analysis of the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value of the Directives considered as part of the Fitness Check.

The results for direct titration of Lake Tjeukemeer water with Cu(II) are interpreted by using both van den Berg-Ružić and Scatchard plots. The use of a new method for correction of asymptote at higher additions of metal proposed by Ružić and Pečar has been illustrated with these titration data. The analysis of reduced titration data obtained bz extraction of equation for weaker complexes from the original titration data has been proved as a very powerful method by which the accuracy of determining complexation parameters for higher energy binding sites can be checked. The following stability constants (K_i) and complexing capacities (L_Ti) are reported: K_1=1.661*10^4 dm^3mol^-1 L_T1=7.978*10^-5 mol dm^-3 K_2=3.014*10^5 dm^3mol^-1 L_T2=1.278*10^-5 mol dm^-3 K_3=1.588*10^7 dm^3mol^-1 L_T3=5.432*10^-6 mol dm^-3 K_4=6.432*10^8 dm^3mol^-1 L_T4=5.996*10^-7 mol dm^-3 High concentration of organic matter in the Lake made possible direct titration with Cu(II) in a wide range of concentrations, so that four different binding strengths were able to be detected from the titration data.
