In the school context, the teacher–student interaction style plays a pivotal role in ensuring optimal adolescent functioning. Over recent years, the significance of transformational teacher leadership in fostering student engagement and positive development has been underscored. This study aimed to examine the correlations between transformational leadership and adolescent self-esteem, motor self-efficacy, enjoyment in physical education classes, and intention for future physical activity. This research used an associative and predictive strategy. A total of 429 adolescents from Málaga, aged between 14 and 16 years (M = 14.97; SD = 0.85), participated in this research, which employed an associative, comparative, and predictive approach. The Transformational Teaching Questionnaire (TTQ), Motor Self-Efficacy Scale (MSES), Intrinsic Satisfaction in Sport Instrument (SSI-EF), and Intention of Being Physically Active Scale (MIFA) were utilized for variable assessment. Correlation, Multiple Regression, and cluster analyses revealed statistically significant correlations between transformational leadership and self-esteem, motor self-efficacy, enjoyment, and future activity intention. Specifically, it was revealed that motivational inspiration predicts self-esteem, motor self-efficacy, enjoyment, and intention for physical activity, whereas intellectual stimulation predicts motor self-efficacy, enjoyment, and intention for physical activity. Notably, the transformational leadership factors of intellectual stimulation and motivational inspiration were observed to predict scores across other variables, particularly enjoyment in physical education classes, both overall and by gender. These findings suggest that transformational leadership in physical education classes can significantly enhance student experiences, thereby promoting adherence to physical activity and healthy lifestyles among adolescents.

The wave–current–seabed interaction problem is studied by using a coupled-mode system developed for modeling wave scattering by non-homogeneous, sheared currents in variable bathymetry regions. The model is based on a modal series expansion of wave velocity based on vertical eigenfunctions, dependent on local depth and flow parameters, including propagating and evanescent modes. The latter representation is able to accurately satisfy the wave flow continuity condition and the no-entrance boundary condition on the sloping parts of the seabed. A new derivation of a simplified nonlinear system is introduced using decomposition to a mean flow and a perturbative wave field. To force the system to consider incoming waves at the inlet, boundary knowledge of periodic, travelling nonlinear water waves over a flat bottom is required. For this purpose, specific solutions are derived using the semi-analytical method based on the stream function formulation, for cases of water waves propagating above linearly and exponentially sheared currents. Results obtained by the application of the CMS concerning the propagation of waves and currents—in particular, examples characterized by depth inhomogeneities—are presented and discussed, illustrating the applicability and performance of the method.

Healthcare institutions are organizations driven to provide medical assistance at a certain level of quality service and safety. To achieve the recognition of excellence, these entities can undergo accreditations and comparisons with other institutions of their kind through ranking systems in order to validate patient, organizational, and academic institutional standards. Usually, the goal is to obtain prestige and recognition as well as positive feedback toward the institution, motivating improvement. In this scenario, the manager's role is to communicate these results and propose strategies to maintain or increase healthcare quality. The following article discusses the fundamentals of the processes of accreditation and ranking systems, the importance of health managers on the complexity of these processes and on achieving an institution's goals and vision, but also intends to provide a critical view toward the desire for prestige a hospital envisions within the feedback when its biggest aim should be directed to improve in benefit of the patients and workforce conditions.

Psychological factors in sports have been widely studied in scientific literature. However, only a few studies have used data mining techniques for athletic profile analysis. The main goal of this study was to analyze motivation, self-confidence, flow, and psychological skills in athletics to build differentiated profiles through clustering techniques. The sample size was 470 participants (ages 14–70 years old; M = 32.1; SD = 13.5). The Sports Motivation Scale (SMS), Task and Ego Orientation in Sport Questionnaire (TEOSQ), Self-confidence in Sport Questionnaire (CACD), Flow Dispositional Scale-2 (FDS-2), and Psychological Inventory of Sport Performance (IPED) were used to analyze the psychological profile of the sample. A data clustering analysis was carried out to check the study’s purpose. Results show different behavior patterns according to specific profiles. Similarly, there have been differences between men and women, online and face-to-face participants, federated athletes and runners, categories, or sports disciplines. In conclusion, the understanding of each athlete’s psychological profile is essential to improve his/her performance. The results of this study could be used to implement changes and adjustments in athlete psychological training to run several intervention programs that focus on each group’s needs.

Introduction: Aging is associated with a decline in cognitive functions, increasing the risk of neurocognitive impairment and limitation of activities of daily living and participation. Previous literature has pointed to physical exercise as an effective intervention; however, its characteristics still need to be specified. Objective: The aim was to synthesize the appropriate intensity, duration, frequency, and type of exercise for different types of cognitive variables. Method: A systematic review was carried out according to PRISMA, using three databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science. Experimental longitudinal studies were included, whether randomised or not, which performed physical exercise and with a control group in people over 60 years of age. Methodological quality was assessed using the PEDro scale. Results: The results yielded 11 studies finding significant improvements in all of them after performing the intervention (7 of aerobic exercise, 3 of resistance exercise and 2 of combined exercise) finding improvements in attention, memory, processing speed, executive function, inhibition, concentration, perceptual reasoning, orientation, visuospatial perception, and visuomotor organisation. Conclusions: Physical exercise appears to be a beneficial intervention for cognition in older people, with aerobic exercise being the most studied, although further research is needed. The results could benefit decision-making in rehabilitation to work on cognition in cognitively healthy older people. Keywords: prevention; aging; cognition; cognitive impairment; rehabilitation.

The killer systems of S. cerevisiae are defined by the co-infection of two viral agents, an M virus and a helper virus. Each killer toxin is determined by the type of M virus (ScV-M1, ScV-M2, ScV-M28, and ScV-Mlus), which encodes a specific toxin (K1, K2, K28, and Klus). Since their discovery, interest in their potential use as antimicrobial agents has driven research into the mechanisms of action of these toxins on susceptible cells. This review provides an overview of the key aspects of killer toxins, including their origin and the evolutionary implications surrounding the viruses involved in the killer system, as well as their potential applications in the biomedical field and as a biological control strategy. Special attention is given to the mechanisms of action described to date for the various S. cerevisiae killer toxins.

Conocer qué acciones técnico-tácticas son más efectivas en el fútbol es fundamental para mejorar los procesos de entrenamiento y el rendimiento en competición. El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar los patrones de juego vinculados a las acciones finales de los equipos de fútbol finalistas de la UEFA Champions League 2020-2021, el Chelsea F.C. y Manchester City F.C. Para ello, se registraron comportamientos de juego utilizando el software Hoisan a partir de una herramienta de observación que consta de 8 criterios y 59 categorías. Posteriormente, los comportamientos registrados fueron analizados mediante la técnica de coordenadas polares. En el análisis de coordenadas polares, la acción de pase desde la posición de mediocampo, la acción de remate desde la posición de delantero, el cabezazo sin oposición y la acción de contraataque se establecieron como categorías de interés (comportamientos focales), que se relacionaban con otras categorías (comportamientos condicionales). Los resultados mostraron que el comportamiento del mediocampista influye en las acciones de ataque de ambos equipos, que en el flujo de comportamientos que determinan las acciones de finalización se aprecia la participación de diferentes jugadores y la intervención decisiva del rol de delantero en la finalización. obras de teatro. Knowing which technical-tactical actions are most effective in football is essential to improve training processes and performance in competition. The aim of this study was to analyze the patterns of play linked to the finishing actions of the finalist football teams in the UEFA Champions League 2020-2021, Chelsea F.C. and Manchester CityF.C. For this purpose, game behaviors were recorded using Hoisan software from an observation tool consisting of 8 criteria and 59 categories. Subsequently, the recorded behaviors were analyzed using the polar coordinates technique. In the polar coordinates analysis, the passing action from the midfield position, the finishing action from the striker position, the unopposed header and the counterattack action were established as categories of interest (focal behaviors), that were related to other categories (conditional behaviors). The results showed that the behavior of the midfielder has an influence on the attacking actions for both teams, that in the flow of behaviors that determine the finishing actions the participation of different players is appreciated, and the decisive intervention of the striker role in the finishing plays. IntroductionEven simple tapping tasks require cognitive processes. Some variants of the Finger Tapping Test (FTT) may reveal cognitive aspects associated with frontal processing, including executive functions such as inhibition, or emotional aspects such as anxiety. A context of particular interest for the application of cognitive-motor-anxiety interactions is sports. Although athletes generally exhibit better anxiety levels, they may experience heightened anxiety before important competitions. The problem lies in determining whether the application of anxiety control techniques can be useful in pre-competition situations, given the lack of quick and easy methods to detect if an athlete is experiencing anxiety at a particular moment.MethodsThis exploratory study evaluated anxiety using online versions of questionnaires (ISRA, the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2, and STAI) and applied a variant of the FTT to 204 participants, both athletes and non-athletes. The scores were compared and correlated.ResultsAthletes exhibited lower general anxiety and greater cognitive resistance to interference (better cognitive inhibition). Non-athletes displayed a particular parameter in the FTT variant that differed from the one obtained by athletes and exhibited higher anxiety levels. In the athletes’ group only, anxiety was correlated with a specific parameter of the FTT task.DiscussionOur conclusion is that this parameter holds potential relevance in elite sports performance to detect if an athlete is experiencing anxiety. It could be of particular interest in psychological interventions in sports. Further investigation is warranted to fully explore this potential.

The use of electromyographic biofeedback (EMG-BF) in the rehabilitation of injuries has been widely referenced in the psychological literature. However, despite some pioneering work in the field of sports, its use in the rehabilitation of sports injuries has hardly been explored. A case of two professional soccer players who each suffered a distal radius fracture is presented here. Parallel to the rehabilitation plan established by medical services, an intervention strategy using EMG-BF was established. An EMG-BF intervention was performed on the brachioradialis muscle with the aim of improving the voluntary control of its electromyographic activity. The study protocol was registered with the identifier NCT05376072. An ABA design was used. In each session, a pre- and postline was recorded to determine the EMG gain acquired at each point of the session. After six sessions, the intervention was terminated. One more follow-up session was performed. The results obtained indicated the efficacy of the intervention; a statistically significant increase in muscle activity in the brachioradialis muscle was observed.

Abstract The objectives of this study were (1) to analyse the relationship between the colour of the protectors and the outcome of 895 matches in the six Olympic Games in which taekwondo has been included, and (2) to analyse the effect of confounding factors through the different degrees of asymmetry between contestants. Data were recorded on the colour of each athlete’s protectors, the scoring system, the sex of the athlete, the weight category, the round of competition, the winner of the match, the method of victory and the points scored by each athlete. Among the main results, a relationship emerged between male athletes wearing red and winning the match (p = 0.034) under the manual scoring system. There were relationships between female athletes wearing blue and winning the match in the quarterfinal (p = 0.014) and last 16 rounds (p = 0.021) using the manual and electronic scoring systems respectively. In female athletes, relationships emerged between wearing blue and winning the match with small (p = 0.008) and medium (p = 0.047) asymmetry under the manual system and with large (p = 0.036) asymmetry under the electronic system. The electronic system had a positive impact on the fairness of Olympic competition. Red tends to gain in importance as the asymmetry between the two athletes decreases, but not enough to give a competitive advantage. The results for Olympic competition held in the now concluded era of the manual system confirmed the presence of the colour effect as a result of psychological factors attributable to referees and judges.

Electromyographic biofeedback (EMG-BF) is a technique that can contribute to the improvement of muscle tone and control in the rehabilitation process after injury. The aim of this research was to determine the effectiveness of EMG-BF in increasing the electromyographic activity of the vastus lateralis after knee injury. The sample consisted of four individuals who had undergone surgery or rehabilitation to resolve either a partial meniscal tear or a patellar tendon strain. The intervention consisted of a program of ten sessions of EMG-BF work. Twelve trials were performed in each session, in which participants were instructed to target the muscle tension produced by the vastus lateralis of the uninjured hemilateral limb. Of the twelve trials in each session, the first three and the last three were performed without feedback, and the intermediate six with feedback. The recording of muscle activity was performed using CY-351/2 Mioback equipment, which allowed the amplitude of the electromyographic signal to be evaluated. The results indicated that the sample analyzed reached greater amplitude during the biofeedback trials, both for the maximum (Z = −13.43, p < 0.001, Cohen’s d = 0.64, 95% CI (0.27, 1.01)) and mean (Z = −7.26, p < 0.001, Cohen’s d = 0.24, 95% CI (−0.12, 0.60)) values. The amplitude also increased throughout the ten sessions, both for the maximum (Z = −3.06, p < 0.01, Cohen’s d = 1.37, 95% CI (0.29, 2.45)) and mean (Z = −3.06, p < 0.01, Cohen’s d = 1.20, 95% CI (0.34, 2.08)) values. Thus, the results highlight the efficacy of this technique in improving muscle activity, suggesting that it is a useful therapeutic procedure in injury recovery.

IntroductionThe interpersonal behavior questionnaire (IBQ) is an instrument that measures support and thwarting interpersonal behaviors based on the self-determination theory (SDT). The aim of this work was to adapt the IBQ to the Spanish spoken in Mexico and to examine its psychometric properties (structural validity, discriminant validity, composite reliability, factorial invariance, and nomological validity) in a sample of athletes.MethodsFor this purpose, 472 athletes (average age 17.15 years; SD = 1.47) completed a question booklet.Results and discussionConfirmatory factor analysis supported the structure of six related factors, three factors of behaviors that support autonomy, competence, and relatedness, and three factors of behaviors that thwarting them. The internal consistency of each factor was also supported, as well as the average variance extracted. However, the discriminant validity between the factors of competence and relatedness in their dimensions of support, on the one hand, and thwarting, on the other, is questioned. Factorial invariance was confirmed across gender (men and women) and sport type (individual and team). Nomological validity is in accordance with theory and empirical literature. More studies of the IBQ in sport are necessary to see if these results are a fortuitous product or if they manifest themselves consistently.

The extreme wave height distribution in the Caribbean Sea is studied using a new method based on the maximum basin-wide aggregate of significant wave height, Hs, values per month. Besides, by means of the Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) technique, we identify coherent geographical regions with similar extreme wave height variability in the Caribbean Sea. Our findings revealed three primary regions: the eastern side with comparatively lower values, the central region with intermediate values, and the western side with the highest extreme wave heights. The study also examines the wind forcing conditions driving the spatial and temporal variability of the extreme waves, highlighting the influence of the low-pressure belt dynamics as well as the role played by the Caribbean Low-Level Jet (CLLJ) index, and the impact of cold fronts and hurricanes on extreme wave heights. Additionally, we explore the relationship between the extreme wave height distribution and climatic indices, such as the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation (AMO), the Atlantic Meridional Mode (AMM), the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and the Oceanic Niño (ONI). The results reveal that the spatial distribution of extreme wave heights in the Caribbean Sea is mostly ruled by the influence of the CLLJ, with correlations close to 80%. In addition, significant correlations were observed between the extreme wave heights and the ENSO in the central Caribbean, as well as positive correlations between the extreme wave heights and NAO in the eastern part of the basin, and significant values of correlation with the negative phases of AMO and AMM in the whole basin. We show that, unlike conventional (or broadly used) methods deployed to identify extreme wave height, such as percentile 99th, Hs99, our methodology allows a further assessment of the wind and climate forcing conditions associated with the extreme wave events. Although, we acknowledge that the method here presented has limitations to capture extreme wave height outliers, it has the advantage of being used concomitant with the wind forcing to develop multivariate wave climate analysis at basin scale, and could be extended to a more local scale when studying coastal processes.

BackgroundThe COVID-19 pandemic has become an important cause of morbimortality, and healthcare workers are at the highest risk of infection. As a result, policies and guidelines have been issued, and behavioral changes have been crucial in hospitals. Among these measures, the implementation of personal protective equipment (PPE) and its appropriate use in the workplace is key to avoiding contagion, as is understanding new measures regarding patient admission, distribution, constant education on virtual platforms, among others, and changing conduct to reduce contagion. However, behavioral change interventions in healthcare workers are challenging as contextual characteristics, attributes of the intervention, and psychological factors are involved.Study objectivesThe issue under investigation is the impact of COVID-19 on frontline healthcare workers in the emergency department of the Fundación Cardioinfantil (FCI). The objective was to describe their behavioral changes by studying and monitoring SARS-CoV-2 infection and their relationship through the tracing process in 2020.MethodsWe conducted a case study to identify and relate the SARS-CoV-2 infection rate within the personnel in the department and the response of healthcare workers to the implementation and adherence to the use of PPE through the analysis of the different variables that contributed to behavioral change. Data were collected by a single author and analyzed by two authors using both the individual-level logic model technique and the triangulation of information, with approval from the institutional review board.DiscussionSeveral interventions for behavior change were registered in the data collection process. The data obtained indicated that implementation, embedding, and integration were perceived as collective and individual behavioral processes. This was supported by evidence from healthcare interventions, such as education, incentivization, training, restriction, environmental restructuring, modeling, and enablement.ConclusionBehavioral science should be part of public health responses, as the theoretical basis suggests that change may modify the response to avoid the transmission of infectious diseases. Therefore, individuals at the highest risk appear to adopt guidance with targeted behavior adaptation interventions. Efforts to inform, instruct, and motivate healthcare workers must be continuous, and actions at the community level must be strengthened, as it is human behavior that determines the spread and mortality of infectious diseases, where community compliance to preventive behaviors plays a crucial role.

Generalizability theory (GT) has been used throughout the scientific literature to ensure validity, reliability, and generalizability in different sport contexts. However, there is a small number of studies examining the measurement of psychological profiles in sport from this perspective. Therefore, this study’s main goal is the sources of variability and the optimal measurement design estimation for a good assessment of the psychological profile in track and field. The sample consisted of 470 participants (age: Average= 32.1; Standar Desviation = 13.5). The analysis of variance and generalizability component analysis has been performed in order to test the reliability and generalizability of the sample. The profile included the following variables: flow, motivation (from Self-Determination Theory and Achievement Goals), self-confidence, and psychological skills. Results confirm that the sample has a high degree of reliability and generalizability in all the tested models. So, a detailed study on the validity, reliability, and generalizability of samples and measures should be an inherent element in the practice of psychological counseling in sports.

The objective of this study was to analyse the correlations among the sports psychological profile, competitive anxiety, self-confidence and the flow state of young football players. Additionally, potential distinctions based on age category, competitive level and field position were explored. This study included 328 participants divided into two groups: Group 1, 14–15 year olds, and Group 2, 16–18 year olds (M = 15.85; SD = 1.44). Data were collected by using the Psychological Inventory of Sports Execution (IPED), the Revised Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2R) and the Flow State Scale (FSS). The findings revealed positive associations between the sports psychological profile and self-confidence, as well as with the flow state. Conversely, competitive anxiety demonstrated negative relationships with the sports psychological profile, self-confidence and the state of flow. Moreover, superior scores were observed in the analysed variables for the older age category and higher competitive level, with no notable disparities based on field positions. These results underscore the interplay of psychological factors in the performance of football players and underline distinctions among players according to their category (age and level). This emphasises the importance of scrutinising these variables in athletes to comprehend their profiles and enable targeted interventions aimed at enhancing their psychological resources for competitive scenarios.

La naturaleza de las experiencias de choque cultural se describe como las reacciones problemáticas de individuos que están expuestos a situaciones desconocidas o muy diferentes a su propio contexto cultural. El choque cultural es una situación crítica dentro del proceso de integración de los negocios internacionales, ya que la frustración generada por percepciones diferentes acarrea tensiones en las relaciones interpersonales. El propósito del presente artículo es describir el proceso de diseño, desarrollo y validación de un nuevo instrumento de medición de integración cultural en los negocios internacionales adaptado a partir de los estudios de Hall (1976), Hofstede (2001) y Cushner (1986). Se incluyen cinco fases del proceso de diseño y desarrollo del instrumento, utilizando el método de comprobación cuantitativa para medir la confiabilidad y validez de las variables desarrolladas en la encuesta. La muestra incluyó veinte directivos de nacionalidad española trabajando en empresas españolas establecidas en México. Los hallazgos más importantes incluyeron la identificación de los principales desafíos que plantean la creación o adaptación de un instrumento de medición en el contexto intercultural, tales como el uso del lenguaje al crear los reactivos y el sesgo que puede ocasionar la elección de una escala de medición sin una opción intermedia.

It has been proposed that oral commensal bacteria are potential reservoirs of a wide variety of antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) and could be the source of pathogenic bacteria; however, there is scarce information regarding this. In this study, three common streptococci of the mitis group (S. oralis, S. sanguinis, and S. gordonii) isolated from dental plaque (DP) were screened to identify if they were frequent reservoirs of specific ARGs (blaTEM, cfxA, tetM, tetW, tetQ, ermA, ermB, and ermC). DP samples were collected from 80 adults; one part of the sample was cultured, and from the other part DNA was obtained for first screening of the three streptococci species and the ARGs of interest. Selected samples were plated and colonies were selected for molecular identification. Thirty identified species were screened for the presence of the ARGs. From those selected, all of the S. sanguinis and S. oralis carried at least three, while only 30% of S. gordonii strains carried three or more. The most prevalent were tetM in 73%, and blaTEM and tetW both in 66.6%. On the other hand, ermA and cfxA were not present. Oral streptococci from the mitis group could be considered frequent reservoirs of specifically tetM, blaTEM, and tetW. In contrast, these three species appear not to be reservoirs of ermA and cfxA.

Introducción: Las variantes de la arteria hepática común han sido estudiadas y descritas desde la antigüedad, con la subsecuente aparición de clasificaciones anatómicas para su correcta identificación. Se ha descrito que hasta un 40% de la población presentan dichas variantes. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura utilizando los descriptores “arteria hepática”, “variación anatómica” y “anatomía” donde se obtuvo un registro de 22203 que habían sido reportados por diferentes investigadores anteriormente y se analizaron en conjunto. Resultados: La variantes anatómicas de la AHC fueron estudiadas y clasificadas por Michels, Lippert y Pabst, y Hiatt. Según la clasificación de Hiatt, 80,46% de los individuos se agrupan dentro del grupo I, 6,46% dentro del grupo II, 6,10% en el grupo III, 1,50% en el grupo IV, 1,32% en el grupo V y 0,02% en el grupo VI. El grupo X de Michels, no contemplado en la clasificación de Hiatt, representó el 0,04% de la muestra. Conclusiones: Se recomienda realizar estudios de imagen preoperatorios cuando se considere apropiado puesto que podría incidir en la disminución de complicaciones quirúrgicas y postquirúrgicas y se debería considerar realizar estudios descriptivos para determinar la incidencia de variantes anatómicas en la población local. It has been reported that up to 40% of the population present these variants. Methodology: A systematic review of the literature was carried out by using the key words “hepatic artery”, “anatomic variation” and “anatomy”, resulting in a registry of 2203 individuals previously reported by various researchers which was analyzed as a whole. Results: Anatomical variants were studied and described by Michels, Lippert & Pabst, and Hiatt. According to the Hiatt classification, 80,46% of individuals were sorted in group I, 6,46% in group II, 6,10% in group III, 1,50% in group IV, 1,32% in group V and 0,02% in group VI. Michels’ group X, not included in Hiatt’s classification, represented 0,04% of the sample. Conclusions: Preoperative imaging studies are recommended when appropriate since it could result in a decrease in surgical and post-surgical complication. Descriptive studies that determine the incidence of anatomical variants in the local population should be considered.

The objective of this study was to design, validate and update an observation tool to analyse the technical-tactical actions by which taekwondo players win points. An ad hoc observational tool was developed for subsequent use in HOISAN software by viewing seven finals (14 viewings) in the Rome 2019 Grand Prix, collecting data (1,382 technical/tactical actions) from both winners and losers (women, n = 3; men, n = 4). An observational methodology based on a nomothetic, follow-up and multidimensional (N/F/M) observational design was used. In the statistical analysis, to check the validity of the generalizability analysis, the Category/Observer (C/O) and Observer/Category (O/C) models were employed, and to determine reliability between observations (intra- and interobserver), the Pearson, Spearman, Kendall's tau-b and Cohen's kappa correlation coefficients were applied. One point were awarded for every penalty given against the opponent. Two points were obtained for a circular technique to the trunk protector (in winners) or by scoring a point for a punch plus a penalty against the opponent, three points in melee actions, anticipatory actions with the left side (winners), or after a punch action, and circular technique (losers). Four and five points were only obtained by winners, in a direct attack with the right leg, turning (five points) or simultaneous (four points). The results of this study provide information on the most effective technical-tactical actions in taekwondo for scoring points in a contest.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is a life-threatening complication associated with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Recent evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 could trigger diabetic ketoacidosis in type 1 diabetes susceptibility and previous insulitis; however, the data on SARS-CoV-2-infected patients with diabetic ketoacidosis as their type 1 diabetes are still limited. We report a 13-year-old Latinamerican male with symptoms and laboratory tests diagnostic of diabetic ketoacidosis and positive SARS-CoV-2 reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction, who required mild COVID-19 care management, fluid resuscitation, and insulin infusion at a regular dose, without further complications after the acute infection. Clinical/biochemical improvement allowed outpatient endocrinology follow-up with insulin therapy and continuous glucose monitoring. To our knowledge, we report the first case of diabetic ketoacidosis as the debut of type 1 diabetes in a Colombian pediatric patient with concurrent SARS-CoV-2 infection. Therefore, this report aims to contribute to the global research on SARS-CoV-2 and diabetic ketoacidosis and discuss the approach to these concomitant pathologies.

Previous research has shown positive relationships between fitness level and different cognitive abilities and academic performance. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between logical–mathematical intelligence and mathematical competence with physical fitness in a group of pre-adolescents. Sixty-three children (50.79% girls; 49.21% boys) from Castro del Río (Córdoba, Spain), aged between 11 and 12 years (M = 11.44, SD = 0.64), participated in this research. The Superior Logical Intelligence Test (SLIT) and the EVAMAT 1.0–5 battery were used. Physical fitness was evaluated by the horizontal jump test, the 4×10 meter speed–agility test, and the Course Navette test. The analyses showed positive relationships between physical fitness with logical–mathematical intelligence and mathematical competence. Specifically, linear regression analyzes indicated that the 4×10 speed–agility test significantly predicted mathematical competence (R2 = 0.16; β = −0.41) and the horizontal jump test significantly predicted logical–mathematical intelligence (R2 = 0.24; β = 0.50). These results are in agreement with previous research, highlighting the importance of improving physical fitness from an early age due to its benefits for intellectual and academic development.

The open nature of basketball gives it a large uncertainty that makes hard the tactical analysis of the situations that happen in the game. Specifically, screens are one of the offensive tactical elements most used in basketball and one example of a tactical situation that needs the highest preparation level to get a good performance in the competition. The aim of this study is to differentiate these player behaviors by gender using data mining and polar coordinates analysis. Therefore, one ad hoc observational tool made by 17 criteria and 97 exhaustive and mutually exclusive (E/ME) categories has been designed and validated using the data quality analysis (correlation coefficients and concordance index 0.98) and generalizability analysis (G coefficients 0.94) to perform such a study. The observational design is nomothetic, punctual, and multidimensional. A total of 176 ball screens situations have been analyzed for the men's category and 118 for women's category, corresponding to three different teams of each gender playing in the highest competition level in Spain during the 2018/2019 season using Hoisan software tool. The analysis of the relationships among behaviors has been performed using Polar Coordinates analysis as well as data mining analysis: clustering and decision tree classifier. Results show significant relationships that allow us to tactically interpret the pick and roll situations in men's and women's professional basketball players in Spain, allowing us to develop more intervention programs which will optimize training and improve players performance.

Physical activity and diet are two predominant determinants of population health status that may influence each other. Physical activity has been identified as a behavior that may lead to a healthier diet and regulates eating behaviors. This research aimed to investigate how the level of physical activity is associated with the motivation related to eating behaviors and, consequently, the eating style individuals have on a daily basis. This was a cross-sectional study in which participants completed an online questionnaire that assessed the following variables: the level of physical activity, the motivation toward eating behavior, and the type of eating behavior. In total, 440 individuals (180 men and 260 women) who regularly exercised in gyms and fitness centers aged between 19 and 64 years (M = 33.84; SD = 10.09) took part in the study. The data were collected following the Declaration of Helsinki and with the approval of the Ethics Committee of the Polytechnic of Leiria. For the statistical analysis, mean and standard deviations were first calculated, as well as bivariate correlations between all the variables of interest. Then, structural equation model analyses were performed considering the levels of physical activity as the independent variable, motivations toward eating behavior as the mediators, and eating styles as the dependent variables. It was concluded that a greater level of physical activity leads to a more self-determined type of eating regulation, which in turn results in less constricted eating behaviors that are influenced by external factors and emotional factors.

Nowadays, getting advantageous offensive situations in high-level basketball is being increasingly harder, so taking advantage of any situation in the game since the team has the ball is essential to be competitive. Therefore, the goal to achieve in this study is to evaluate using a mixed method strategy the behaviors happening in the application of the technical–tactical means performed in the transition play of professional basketball in Spain. An ad hoc observation tool made of 11 criteria and 83 exhaustive and mutually exclusive categories (E/ME) has been designed and validated by means of data quality and generalizability analyses. Indexes obtained show high reliability and validity allowing the proposed actions to be recorded (correlation coefficients are above 0.95 and generalizability coefficients are above 0.90 in all cases). A total number of 128 situations corresponding to eight games of Unicaja de Málaga in the Endesa League in the 18/19 season were observed with the Hoisan software. The analysis of the relationships among behaviors was performed using the polar coordinates technique where the one-on-one initiation, outside the zone, has been used as focal behavior. The estimation of the functions representing the vectors has also been performed to model the best fit that estimates, starting from a focal category, the relationship among this focal behavior and the rest of the mating behaviors for possible future observations. The results show significant relationships between the selected focal behavior and the mating behaviors, showing indications of behaviors allowing tactical interpretation of the game and the definition of intervention programs to improve the performance of the team.

Introducción: La caries dental, perdida de dientes provocada por caries y la enfermedad periodontal son consideradas uno de los mayores problemas de salud a nivel mundial[i]. Se considera que afecta a cerca de 4 billones de personas de acuerdo al Global Burden of Disease 2010 Study[ii]. Objetivo: Identificar la relación entre los índices socioeconómicos y la salud oral. Materiales y Metodos: Es un estudio de tipo observacional, descriptivo, transversal. Se utilizó la base de datos del Sistema Nacional de Vigilancia Epidemiológica (SINAVE) para poder desarrollar este estudio, en ella se manejan datos de salud y algunas variables socioeconómicas que se utilizaron para desarrollar este trabajo. Resultados: En el modelo encontramos dos variables estadísticamente significativas, el índice de CPO (p=0.008, IC 95% (0.197-1.135)) y prevalencia de caries dental (p=0.016, IC 95% (-0.086 - -0.010)) con respecto al Índice de Desarrollo Humano. Conclusión: La fuerte influencia de factores sociales en el proceso salud enfermedad de la cavidad bucal, requiere acciones de promoción y prevención no solo a nivel salud.

Traditionally, research in taekwondo has focused on athletes' overall performance considering the entire sample of the tournament or analyzed selected bouts while ignoring behavioral differences of athletes according to their gender and weight category. Thus, the aim of this study was to analyze the behavioral patterns used to score points in the London Olympic Games according to gender and weight category [fin (FW), feather (FTW), light (LW), and heavy (HW)] of the athletes. A total of 24,940 actions were analyzed by using observational methodology, a mixed method methodology where lag sequential and polar coordinate analysis were applied. Different patterns could be seen in the actions performed prior to score between the weight categories for both genders. To score one point, females FW performed dodges, LW used indirect attacks and HW used direct attacks, posterior counterattacks, dodges and blocks. After scoring one-point, female athletes used a variety of actions, defensives like dodges (FW/LW) and blocks (LW), and offensives like simultaneous counterattacks (FW, FTW, LW) and posterior (FTW) as well as direct (FTW, HW) and indirect (FW) attacks. No patterns were found in males when scoring one-point, only LW competitors performed a sequence characterized by the performance of dodges followed by indirect attacks prior scoring while simultaneous counterattacks occurred after score one point. To score two points, similar patterns were found for all weight groups among female competitors. Females performed openings prior to scoring (LW/HW), while anticipatory (FW/FTW) and posterior counterattacks (LW) occurred after scoring, followed by cuts (FW), direct attacks (LW) and openings (HW). In males, FTW and HW used counterattacks prior to scoring (posterior and simultaneous), while FTW and LW also used counterattacks after scoring (anticipatory and simultaneous). Prior to scoring three points different patterns were found according to the weight category, while FW females used cuts and openings, LW used dodges and posterior counterattacks. After scoring three points, FW continued to use cuts, openings and posterior counterattacks while FTW used indirect attacks and HW used simultaneous counterattacks. On the contrary, similar behavior was found in males. FW and LWs used simultaneous counterattacks prior to scoring while they used defensive actions such as openings (FW) and dodges (LW) after scoring. Male FTW used also posterior counterattacks after scoring. Prior to scoring four points females reported different key behaviors. FW used anticipatory counterattacks and LW direct attacks whereas after scoring, FTW used dodges and openings. Similarities were found in males to score four points. LW and HW performed blocks prior scoring, FW and HW performed also direct attacks while FTW performed posterior counterattacks prior score. After scoring, defensives actions were performed such as dodges (LW) or cuts (FW, FTW, HW) and indirect attacks (LW, HW). This is one of the first studies analyzing behavioral patterns in taekwondo according to the weight category and gender of the athletes. The observed relationships identified different behavioral patterns according to the weight category for each gender and demonstrate the necessity to individualize trainings according to the athlete's characteristics (weight and gender). It is suggested that coaches and psychologists train athletes to improve their decision-making according to the successful patterns extracted in this study.

Resumen Las enfermedades tiroideas están entre los trastornos endocrinos más frecuentemente reportados durante el embarazo, en parte debido a los cambios fisiológicos que ocurren principalmente en el primer trimestre. En pacientes embarazadas, el hipotiroidismo clínico tiene una prevalencia de 0.3-1.9%, mientras que el hipotiroidismo subclínico de 1.5-5%. Estos porcentajes dependen de diferentes variables como la ingesta de yodo. Se ha visto que el hipotiroidismo generalmente representa un riesgo para la unidad materno-fetal, por lo que se debe tener en cuenta el rango de referencia trimestral de TSH según la población para realizar un diagnóstico apropiado. El tratamiento consiste en levotiroxina oral, según las metas establecidas. Además, la captación de aquellas pacientes que presenten factores de riesgo, así como aquellas con diagnóstico previo de hipotiroidismo permite darles el seguimiento adecuado. Por lo anterior, es necesario que los diferentes servicios cuenten con bases de datos a nivel regional o nacional para establecer rangos de referencia trimestrales específicos para la población.

Grounded in achievement goal theory and self-determination theory, the aim of this study was to analyze the motivational determinants of precompetitive anxiety in the sports context, considering the horizontal motivational sequence: adaptive social factors (task-involving climate, autonomy support style), competence need, types of motivation (autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, amotivation), and consequences (precompetitive anxiety and self-confidence). This study was also conducted in order to analyze the mediating role of the need for competition and motivational regulations on social factors and consequences. The sample consisted of 217 athletes of both sexes engaged in elite sport, who answered a series of questionnaires to measure study variables to develop an analysis of the structural equation model. The results showed that both the task-involving climate and autonomy support were associated with competence need, and competence need was associated with autonomous motivation in a positive way and with controlled motivation and amotivation in a negative way. On the other hand, autonomous motivation was positively associated with self-confidence, while amotivation was positively related to somatic and cognitive anxiety before a competition. Furthermore, there was a total mediation of competence need and autonomous motivation between task climate and self-confidence. In conclusion, these social factors favor self-confidence, and besides, these climates disfavor anxiety before a sport competition.

La aloinmunización de glóbulos rojos es la segunda causa inmune más común de enfermedad hemolítica perinatal. A pesar de que se trata de una condición cada vez menos frecuente por los avances en su prevención mediante la administración de gammaglobulina anti-Rh, sigue presentándose con manifestaciones clínicas tan comprometedoras para el feto como lo son el hidrops y la anemia fetal. Se presenta el caso de una mujer embarazada con aloinmunización Rh previamente sensibilizada con manifestaciones de anemia severa e hidrops. El caso es abordado mediante transfusiones intrauterinas seriadas, se describen tanto aspectos técnicos como los resultados perinatales.

MenPas is a psychosocial assessment platform1 developed by the University of Malaga in 2008. There has been a significant increase in data traffic during the period of confinement by COVID-19 (March and April ’20) compared to the same period in the previous year. The main goal to achieve in this work is to determine the patterns of use of this platform on both period of time. So, we want to respond to the following question: So, we the following question: Has the COVID-19 Pandemic changed the pattern of the Menpas users? In order to respond it, cluster analysis techniques (Data Mining) have been used to classify people taking surveys into quotient sets (cluster). This is a multivariate technique for dividing data into sets to that are as homogeneous as possible within themselves and heterogeneous among themselves. Specifically, the K-Means algorithm has been used for this analysis, which is based on the evaluation of the distance between data and the average of each variable. So, it is recommended to discover patterns or relationships among the data. Specifically, the use of the following questionnaires has been analyzed: Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2), State Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Profile of Mood State (POMS), Resilience Scale (RS), Sport Performance Psychological Inventory (IPED), Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Self-concept Form-5 (AF-5). The analyses have shown changes in cluster formation between 2019 and 2020 based on the variables gender, age, marital status or physical practice. Therefore, the analyses carried out have been sensitive to determine several profiles of people using the MenPas platform because there are changes in the characteristics of the user groups that have carried out the analyzed tests.
