8. Elastic Differential Cross Sections for Space Radiation Applications

Abstract

The eikonal, partial wave (PW) Lippmann-Schwinger, and three-dimensional Lippmann- Schwinger (LS3D) methods are compared for nuclear reactions that are relevant for space radiation applications. Numerical convergence of the eikonal method is readily achieved when exact formulas of the optical potential are used for light nuclei (A $\le$ 16), and the momentum-space representation of the optical potential is used for heavier nuclei. The PW solution method is known to be numerically unstable for systems that require a large number of partial waves, and, as a result, the LS3D method is employed. The effect of relativistic kinematics is studied with the PW and LS3D methods and is compared to eikonal results. It is recommended that the LS3D method be used for high energy nucleon-nucleus reactions and nucleus-nucleus reactions at all energies because of its rapid numerical convergence and stability.

Abstract

The aim if this study was to carry out the blood evaluation of Cebus albifrons primates kept in captivity at the Centro de Atención y Valoración de Fauna Silvestre (C.A.V) in the city of Ibagué, Colombia. Blood (~2 ml) was drawn from the femoral or axillary veins under chemical restriction in nine males (six castrated) and five females. Results were obtained for haematocrit 40.75 ± 3.91%, haemoglobin 15.2 ± 1.4 g/dl, erythrocyte counts 5 200 714 ± 510 331/mm3, mean corpuscular haemoglobin [HCM] 29.22 ± 1.46 pg, mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration [CHCM] 37.26 ± 0.73 g/dl, mean corpuscular volume [VCM] 78.61 ± 4.46 fl, white blood cell count 8328.6 ± 2993.7/mm3, segmented neutrophils 43.56 ± 10.31%, monocytes 28.11 ± 5.28%, lymphocytes 23.54 ± 7.45%, eosinophils 4.79 ± 1.14% and platelets 276 857 ± 71 889/mm3. There were no significant differences between males and females., El objetivo del presente estudio fue realizar la valoración hemática de primates Cebus albifrons mantenidos en cautiverio en el Centro de Atención y Valoración de Fauna Silvestre (C.A.V) de la ciudad de Ibagué, Colombia. Se extrajo sangre (~2 ml) mediante la punción de las venas femoral o axilar bajo restricción química en nueve machos (seis castrados) y cinco hembras. Se obtuvieron resultados para el hematocrito de 40.75±3.91%, hemoglobina 15.2±1.4 g/dl, recuentos eritrocitarios 5200714±510331/mm3, hemoglobina corpuscular media [HCM] 29.22±1.46 pg, concentración de hemoglobina corpuscular media [CHCM] 37.26±0.73 g/dl, volumen corpuscular medio [VCM] 78.61±4.46 fl, recuento leucocitario 8328.6±2993.7/mm3, neutrófilos segmentados 43.56±10.31%, monocitos 28.11±5.28%, linfocitos 23.54±7.45%, eosinófilos 4.79±1.14% y plaquetas 276857±71889/mm3. No se evidenciaron diferencias significativas entre sexos. &nbsp
