The purpose of this study was to design, build, and assess the performance of a latent heat storage system in tandem with a single slope solar still. Using a solar accumulator to transfer hot water to a shell and a spiral finned tube filled with 30 kg of paraffin wax - 1.2 wt.% of Al2O3 nanocomposites, latent heat was stored. To test the effect of the storage system's performance, two trials were conducted, with and without storage, under as similar of conditions as could be arranged. The proposed storage system design eliminates any potential issues with usage of paraffin wax as the storage system in conjunction with the solar still. An outcome indicated that daily fresh water output was enhanced by 4.63% when the solar still was used in conjunction with the storage system. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In many parts of the world, fresh drinking water is in short supply. The solar still produced a daily output of only 3 L, but it was used in providing a sustainable supply of clean drinking water. The climate of Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India was tested from 8.30 a. m. to 5.30 p. m. on April 2023 using a modified solar still (MSS) for the experiment. The effectiveness of a MSS has been increased over that of a conventional solar still (CSS) by using as nanoparticle of ZrO2 and a dripping arrangement of water. The yields of MSS and CSS were determined experimentally to be 2.22 L per m² and 3.39 L per m², respectively. It was found that the CSS and MSS had thermal efficiencies of 25% and 35%, respectively. It has also been noticed that the MSS in its modified form has increased efficiency by 52.5%. Water costs 0.95 Rs per L under the CSS and 0.75 Rs per L under the MSS, as determined by their respective economic analyses. Solar still using nanomaterials and dripping arrangement improved output. In this experimental work is based on the comparison on the three different nanoparticle mixed nanofluid usage influence on the evacuated tube solar collector (ETSC). The distilled water is initially tested to identify the better performance providing mass-flow rate then the mass-flow rate. There are three nanoparticles such as MWCNT, Al2O3, and CuO were used in to create the nanofluid by two step method to use as a heat transfer fluid in the system. There are four different combinations of nanofluid were created based on the 0.05% of volume fraction of nanoparticles involvement. The corresponding performance parameters such as outlet temperature, maximum absorbed heat and thermal efficiency were measured and calculated. Among that 50% of MWCNT, 40% of Al2O3, and 10% of CuO nanoparticle mixer of 0.05% volume fraction used nanofluid reached the 38.76% higher temperature difference 33.02% more useful heat absorbed and 33.04% of more efficiency than distilled water in the system.
