This study investigates the effectiveness of different ventilation methods in reducing indoor air pollutants in newly constructed residential buildings, focusing on indoor air quality (IAQ) in Dubai. The paper highlights the growing concern for IAQ in response to residents' increasing awareness of their well-being and environmental sustainability. The study examines the concentrations of formaldehyde (HCHO), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC) in bedrooms and living rooms before and after implementing various ventilation methods during the construction phase. Combining kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans demonstrated the most significant reduction in HCHO concentrations. Similarly, reductions in VOCs, such as ethylbenzene, toluene, and xylene, were observed with different ventilation methods. Natural ventilation also proved effective in reducing pollutant concentrations. The results emphasize the importance of implementing appropriate ventilation strategies to improve IAQ in residential buildings. However, the study acknowledges the limitations of a single-location measurement and recommends further research to validate the findings across different building types and locations. Additionally, long-term studies are necessary to assess the sustained effects of ventilation methods on IAQ. The study highlights the significance of addressing IAQ concerns in residential buildings and suggests potential research directions to explore other ventilation strategies and their energy efficiency implications. We implemented a crossover study design exposing 15 participants to two indoor air quality conditions in the Well Living Lab. The first condition, the Standard Control Condition, resembled the ventilation and air supply of a typical home in the USA with a manually operated stove hood. The second condition, Advanced Control, had an automated: (i) stove hood, (ii) two portable air cleaners (PAC), and (iii) bathroom exhaust. The PM 2.5 sensors were placed in the kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Once the sensor detected a PM 2.5 level of 15 μg/m 3 or higher, an air quality intervention (stove hood, PAC or bathroom exhaust) in that space was activated and turned off when the corresponding PM 2.5 sensor had three consecutive readings below 6 μg/m 3 . Advanced Control in the overall apartment reduced PM 2.5 concentration by 40% compared to the Standard Control. The PM 2.5 concentration difference between Advanced and Standard Control was ~ 20% in the kitchen. This can be attributed to using the stove hood manually in 66.5% of cooking PM 2.5 emission events for 323.6 h compared to 88 h stove hood used in automated mode alongside 61.9 h and 33.7 h of PAC use in living room and bedroom, respectively., (© 2024. Ventilation systems of operating rooms (ORs) are significantly important in preventing postoperative wound infections that can cause morbidity and mortality after surgery in or out of the hospital. This study aims to identify the optimum overpressure for efficient operation while reducing the risk of surgical site infections (SSIs) based on the actual OR with the help of computational fluid dynamics. The species transport model, Lagrangian discrete phase model, and turbulent standard k- ε model are mainly used for the transient numerical study to improve the performance of the OR and reduce SSI cases. Four OR schemes were initially calculated for the best location of the patient on the surgical table. The results revealed that the modified position 90˚ is the best location with the minimum CO 2 and BCP concentrations. The investigated operating room could host up to ten surgical members with the optimum overpressure of 5.89 Pa and 0.56 m/s of supply velocity under the standard cleanliness level. Modifying the supply surface area will enhance the performance of the operating room by providing a cleaner zone and maintaining the desired room pressure, even with a low airflow rate. Background: The public order and safety (POS) sector remains susceptible to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreaks, as workplace attendance is typically compulsory and close physical contact is often needed. Here, we report on a SARS-CoV-2 outbreak with an attack rate of 39% (9/23), which occurred between 19 and 29 June 2021 among a cohort of new POS recruits participating in a mandatory 18-week training programme in England., Methods: The COVID-OUT (COVID-19 Outbreak investigation to Understand Transmission) study team undertook a multidisciplinary outbreak investigation, including viral surface sampling, workplace environmental assessment, participant viral and antibody testing, and questionnaires, at the two associated training facilities between 5 July and 24 August 2021., Results: Environmental factors, such as ventilation, were deemed inadequate in some areas of the workplace, with carbon dioxide (CO2) levels exceeding 1,500 ppm on multiple occasions within naturally ventilated classrooms. Activities during safety training required close contact, with some necessitating physical contact, physical exertion, and shouting. Furthermore, most participants reported having physical contact with colleagues (67%) and more than one close work contact daily (97%)., Conclusions: Our investigation suggests that site- and activity-specific factors likely contributed to the transmission risks within the POS trainee cohort. We report a large outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in a residential living facility. Measurements of carbon dioxide levels, aerosol particle clearance, and airflow were used to identify and remediate areas with suboptimal ventilation. The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused massive losses for the global economy. Scholars have used different methods to study the transmission mode and influencing factors of the virus to find effective methods to provide people with a healthy built environment. However, these studies arrived at different or even contradictory conclusions. This review presents the main research methodologies utilized in this field, summarizes the main investigation methods, and critically discusses their related conclusions. Data statistical analysis, sample collection, simulation models, and replication transmission scenarios are the main research methods. The summarized conclusion for prevention from all reviewed papers are: adequate ventilation and proper location of return air vents, proper use of personal protective equipment, as well as the reasonable and strict enforcement of policies are the main methods for reducing the transmission. Recommendations including standardized databases, causation clarification, rigorous experiment design, improved simulation accuracy and verification are provided.

We conducted simultaneous real-time measurements for particles on the premises of four schools, two of which were naturally ventilated (NV) and two mechanically ventilated (MV) in Kanpur, India. Health to school children from reduced particle levels inside classrooms simulated to the lowest acceptable levels (ISHRAE Class C: PM10 ≤ 100 µg/m 3 & PM2.5 ≤ 25 µg/m 3 ) using air filters were examined. Lung deposition of particles was used as a proxy for health impacts and calculated using the MPPD model. The particle levels in all classrooms were above the baseline, with NV classrooms having higher particle masses than MV classrooms: 72.16% for PM 1 , 74.66% for PM 2.5 , and 85.17% for PM 10 . Our calculation reveals a whooping reduction in particles deposited in the lungs (1512% for PM 10 and 1485% for PM 2.5 ) in the case of the NV classrooms. Results highlight unhealthy air inside classrooms and suggest urgent interventions, such as simple filtration techniques, to achieve acceptable levels of particles inside schools.

Background: Surgical site infection (SSI) in the form of postoperative deep sternal wound infection (DSWI) after cardiac surgery is a rare, but potentially fatal, complication. In addressing this, the focus is on preventive measures, as most risk factors for SSI are not controllable. Therefore, operating rooms are equipped with heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to prevent airborne contamination of the wound, either through turbulent mixed air flow (TMA) or unidirectional air flow (UDAF)., Aim: To investigate if the risk for SSI after cardiac surgery was decreased after changing from TMA to UDAF., Methods: This observational retrospective single-centre cohort study collected data from 1288 patients who underwent open heart surgery over 2 years. During the two study periods, institutional SSI preventive measures remained the same, with the exception of the type of HVAC system that was used., Findings: Using multi-variable logistic regression analysis that considered confounding factors (diabetes, obesity, duration of surgery, and re-operation), the hypothesis that TMA is an independent risk factor for SSI was rejected (odds ratio 0.9, 95% confidence interval 0.4-1.8; P>0.05). It was not possible to demonstrate the preventive effect of UDAF on the incidence of SSI in patients undergoing open heart surgery when compared with TMA., Conclusion: Based on these results, the use of UDAF in open heart surgery should be weighed against its low cost-effectiveness and negative environmental impact due to high electricity consumption. Source localization is significant for mitigating indoor air pollution and safeguarding the well-being and safety of occupants. While most study focuses on mechanical ventilation and static sources, this study explores the less-explored domain of locating time-varying sources in naturally ventilated spaces. We have developed an innovative 3D localization system that adjusts to varying heights, significantly enhancing capabilities beyond traditional fixed-height 2D systems. To ensure consistency in experimental conditions, we conducted comparative analyses of 2D and 3D methods, using a swinging fan to simulate natural ventilation. Our findings reveal a substantial disparity in performance: the 2D method had a success rate below 46.7% in cases of height mismatches, while our 3D methods consistently achieved success rates above 66.7%, demonstrating their superior effectiveness in complex environments. Furthermore, we validated the 3D strategies in real naturally ventilated settings, confirming their wider applicability. Background: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, new evidence-based strategies have emerged for reducing transmission of respiratory infections through management of indoor air., Objectives: This paper reviews critical advances that could reduce the burden of disease from inhaled pathogens and describes challenges in their implementation., Discussion: Proven strategies include assuring sufficient ventilation, air cleaning by filtration, and air disinfection by germicidal ultraviolet (UV) light. Layered intervention strategies are needed to maximize risk reduction. Case studies demonstrate how to implement these tools while also revealing barriers to implementation. Future needs include standards designed with infection resilience and equity in mind, buildings optimized for infection resilience among other drivers, new approaches and technologies to improve ventilation, scientific consensus on the amount of ventilation needed to achieve a desired level of risk, methods for evaluating new air-cleaning technologies, studies of their long-term health effects, workforce training on ventilation systems, easier access to federal funds, demonstration projects in schools, and communication with the public about the importance of indoor air quality and actions people can take to improve it. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP13878.

Background: The operating room (OR) department is one of the most energy-intensive departments of a hospital. The majority of ORs in the Netherlands have an air-handling installation with an ultra-clean ventilation system. However, not all surgeries require an ultra-clean OR., Aim: To determine the effect of reducing the air change rate on the ventilation effectiveness in ultra-clean ORs., Methods: Lower air volume ventilation effectiveness (VE Lv ) of conventional ventilation (CV), controlled dilution ventilation (cDV), temperature-controlled airflow (TcAF) and unidirectional airflow (UDAF) systems were evaluated within a 4 × 4 m measuring grid of 1 × 1 m. The VE Lv was defined as the recovery degree (RD), cleanliness recovery rate (CRR) and air change effectiveness (ACE)., Findings: The CV, cDV Lv and TcAF Lv ventilation systems showed a comparable mixing character in all areas (A, B and AB) when reducing the air change rate to 20/h. Ventilation effectiveness decreased when the air change rate was reduced, with the exception of the ACE. At all points for the UDAF-2 Lv and at the centre point (C3) of the TcAF Lv , higher RD 10Lv and CRR Lv were measured when compared with the other examined ventilation systems., Conclusions: The ventilation effectiveness decreased when an ultra-clean OR with an ultra-clean ventilation air-supply system was switched to an air change rate of 20/h. Residents of long-term care facilities are particularly vulnerable to communicable diseases. Low-cost interventions to increase air exchange rates (AERs) may be useful in reducing the transmission of airborne communicable diseases between long-term care residents and staff. In this study, carbon dioxide gas was used as a tracer to evaluate the AER associated with the implementation of low-cost ventilation interventions. Under baseline conditions with the room's door closed, the mean AER was 0.67 ACH; while baseline conditions with the door open had a significantly higher mean AER of 3.87 ACH ( p  < 0.001). Subsequently opening a window with the door open increased mean AER by 1.49 ACH ( p  = 0.012) and adding a fan in the window further increased mean AER by 1.87 ACH ( p  < 0.001). Regression analyses indicated that the flow rate of air entering through the window, both passively and through the use of a fan, was significantly associated with an increase in AER ( p  < 0.001). These results indicate that low-cost interventions that pull outside air into resident rooms were effective in improving the air exchange rates in these facilities. While implementation of these interventions is dependent on facility rules and isolation requirements of residents with airborne communicable diseases, these interventions remain viable options for long-term care facilities to improve resident room ventilation without requiring costly ventilation system upgrades.

The impact of mechanical ventilation on airborne diseases is not completely known. The recent pandemic of COVID-19 clearly showed that additional investigations are necessary. The use of computational tools is an advantage that needs to be included in the study of designing safe places. The current study focused on a hospital lift where two subjects were included: a healthy passenger and an infected one. The elevator was modelled with a fan placed on the middle of the ceiling and racks for supplying air at the bottom of the lateral wall. Three ventilation strategies were evaluated: a without ventilation case, an upwards-blowing exhausting fan case and a downwards-blowing fan case. Five seconds after the elevator journey began, the infected person coughed. For the risk assessment, the CO 2 concentration, droplet removal performance and dispersion were examined and compared among the three cases. The results revealed some discrepancies in the selection of an optimal ventilation strategy. Ozone reaction with human surfaces is an important source of ultrafine particles indoors. However, 1-20 nm particles generated from ozone-human chemistry, which mark the first step of particle formation and growth, remain understudied. Ventilation and indoor air movement could have important implications for these processes. Therefore, in a controlled-climate chamber, we measured ultrafine particles initiated from ozone-human chemistry and their dependence on the air change rate (ACR, 0.5, 1.5, and 3 h -1 ) and operation of mixing fans (on and off). Concurrently, we measured volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and explored the correlation between particles and gas-phase products. At 25-30 ppb ozone levels, humans generated 0.2-7.7 × 10 12 of 1-3 nm, 0-7.2 × 10 12 of 3-10 nm, and 0-1.3 × 10 12 of 10-20 nm particles per person per hour depending on the ACR and mixing fan operation. Size-dependent particle growth and formation rates increased with higher ACR. The operation of mixing fans suppressed the particle formation and growth, owing to enhanced surface deposition of the newly formed particles and their precursors. Correlation analyses revealed complex interactions between the particles and VOCs initiated by ozone-human chemistry. The results imply that ventilation and indoor air movement may have a more significant influence on particle dynamics and fate relative to indoor chemistry.

COVID-19 and other respiratory infectious viruses are highly contagious, and patients need to be treated in negative pressure wards. At present, many negative pressure wards use independent air conditioning equipment, but independent air conditioning equipment has problems such as indoor air circulation flow, condensate water accumulation, and improper filter maintenance, which increase the risk of infection for healthcare workers and patients. The radiation air conditioning system relies on the radiation ceiling to control the indoor temperature and uses new air to control the indoor humidity and air quality. The problems caused by the use of independent air conditioning equipment should be avoided. This paper studies the thermal comfort, contaminant distribution characteristics, contaminant removal efficiency, and accessibility of supply air in a negative pressure ward with a radiation air conditioning system under three airflow patterns. In addition, the negative pressure ward was divided into 12 areas, and the infection probability of healthcare workers in different areas was analyzed. The results show that the application of radiation air conditioning systems in negative pressure wards can ensure the thermal comfort of patients. Stratum ventilation and ceiling-attached jets have similar effects in protecting healthcare workers; both can effectively reduce the contaminant concentrations and the risk of infection of healthcare workers. Ceiling-attached jets decreases the contaminant concentrations by 10.73%, increases the contaminant removal efficiency by 12.50%, and decreases the infection probability of healthcare workers staying indoors for 10 min by 23.18%, compared with downward ventilation., (© 2024. Upper-room ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) system is recently in the limelight as a potentially effective method to mitigate the risk of airborne virus infection in indoor environments. However, few studies quantitatively evaluated the relationship between ventilation effectiveness and virus disinfection performance of a UVGI system. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of ventilation strategy on detailed airflow distributions and UVGI disinfection performance in an occupied classroom. Three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed for representative cooling, heating, and ventilation scenarios. The results show that when the ventilation rate is 1.1 h -1 (the minimum ventilation rate based on ASHRAE 62.1), enhancing indoor air circulation with the mixing fan notably improves the UVGI disinfection performance, especially for cooling with displacement ventilation and all-air-heating conditions. However, increasing indoor air mixing yields negligible effect on the disinfection performance for forced-convection cooling condition. The results also reveal that regardless of indoor thermal condition, disinfection effectiveness of a UVGI system increases as ventilation effectiveness is close to unity. Moreover, when the room average air speed is >0.1 m/s, upper-room UVGI system could yield about 90% disinfection effect for the aerosol size of 1 μm-10 μm. Guidelines for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems have been developed for different settings. However, there is a lack of up-to-date evidence providing concrete recommendations for the heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems of an isolation room, which is essential to appropriately guide infection control policies. To highlight the guidelines for heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in isolation rooms to inform relevant stakeholders and policymakers. A systematic search was performed based on Joanna Briggs Methodology using five databases (CINAHL, Embase, Joanna Briggs Institute, Medline, and Web of Science) and websites. Eight articles published by government departments were included in this review. Most studies recommended controlled airflow without recirculation, 12 air changes per hour, high-efficiency particulate air filtrate to exhaust contaminated air from the airborne isolation room, humidity ≤60%, and temperature in the range of 18-30 °C. This review provides further evidence that there is a need for interdisciplinary collaborative research to quantify the optimum range for heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system parameters, considering door types, anterooms, and bed management, to effectively reduce the transmission of infection in isolation rooms., (Copyright © 2023 The Healthcare Infection Society. Tunnel construction often relies on drilling and blasting. High dust pollution is one of the primary problems of drilling and blasting construction. The level of secondary blown dust pollution caused by ventilation matches that of dust pollution caused by drilling construction. In this study, a critical flow model and blown dust rate model for deposited dust were established via force analysis, which was validated against the test data. The research results showed that the characteristic airflow velocity for blowing dust particles with a 100 μm diameter reached approximately 0.42 m/s for tunnel diameter is 10 m, and the ventilation Re values under smooth and rough conditions were 2.3 × 10 5 and 1.4 × 10 5 , respectively. Furthermore, when ventilation Re reached 4 × 10 5 , the blown dust pollution rate caused by ventilation under smooth conditions was approximately 1.8 × 10 -2  kg/s. If dust particle size is more or less the critical dust particle size, the characteristic airflow velocity was increased. Moreover, the optimal velocity at which the deposited dust does not flow or move during tunnel construction was related to the tunnel size and roughness. For the smooth tunnel with a diameter of 10 m, the optimal ventilation velocity was 3.5 m/s. When the tunnel roughness was increased from 0.005 to 0.5 m, the optimal ventilation velocity decreased from 3.3 to 1.6 m/s. To prevent respiratory infections between patients and medical workers, the transmission risk of airborne pollutants in hospital wards must be mitigated. The ventilation modes, which are regarded as an important strategy to minimize the infection risk, are challenging to be systematically designed. Studies have considered the effect of ventilation openings (inlets/outlets) or infected source locations on the airflow distribution, pollutant removal, and infection risk mitigation. However, the relationship (such as relative distance) between ventilation openings and infected sources is critical because it affects the direct exhaust of exhaled pollutants, which has not been thoroughly studied. To explore pollutant removal and infection prevention in wards, different ventilation modes (with varying ventilation openings) and infected patient locations must be jointly considered. This study investigated displacement ventilation (DV), downward ventilation (DWV), and stratum ventilation (SV) with 4, 6, and 10 scenarios of ventilation openings, respectively. The optimal ventilation mode and relative distance between outlets and infected patients were analyzed based on the simulated pollutant concentration fields and the evaluated infection risk. The pollutant removal effect and infection risk mitigation of SV in the ward were largely improved by 75% and 59% compared with DV and DWV, respectively. The average infection risk was reduced below 7% when a non-dimensional relative distance (a ratio of the actual distance to the cubic root of the ward volume) was less than 0.25 between outlets and infected patient. A four-week-long field intervention experiment was conducted in twenty-nine bedrooms with extract ventilation systems and air inlet vents. During the first week no interventions took place. In the three weeks that followed, each participant slept for one week under a low, moderate, and high ventilation rate condition in a balanced order. These conditions were established by covertly altering the fan speed of the exhaust ventilation system without changing other settings. Participants were not informed when or even whether the changes to bedroom ventilation would be executed. The bedroom environmental quality was monitored continuously and sleep quality was monitored using wrist-worn trackers. Tests of cognitive performance were conducted in the evening and morning. In twelve bedrooms where clear differences between the three ventilation conditions occurred, as indicated by the measured CO 2 concentrations, participants had significantly less deep sleep, more light sleep and more awakenings at lower ventilation rate conditions. In twenty-three bedrooms where a clear difference in ventilation rate between the high and low ventilation conditions was observed, as confirmed by the measured CO 2 concentrations, the deep sleep was significantly shorter in the low ventilation rate condition. No differences in cognitive performance between conditions were observed. At lower ventilation rate conditions, the concentrations of CO 2 increased, as did the relative humidity, while bedroom temperatures remained unchanged. The present results, which were obtained in actual bedrooms, confirm the findings in previous studies of a positive effect of increased ventilation on sleep quality. Background: Airborne contamination from microbe carrying particles (MCPs) is a risk factor for devastating early onset periprosthetic joint infection(PJIs). There are no published guidelines to quantify this risk factor for PJI events. This observational cohort project addresses this gap and utilizes a simple passive system to produce quantitative data from 80 total joint replacement cases performed in operating rooms built to current USA standards., Methods: A petri dish-based system inspired by industrial cleanroom technology was deployed. Surgical helmet systems (SHSs) and strict protocols were used in all cases. 450 MCPs/m 2 was used as a cutoff for bioburden. This benchmark corresponds to the ultraclean air standard of 10 MCPs/m 3 ., Results: 75/80 cases (94%) achieved desired benchmark levels of bioburden at the wound zone compared to only 52/80 (65%) of back table zones. No surgical site infections (SSI) or PJI events (0/80; 95% CI, 0.00-3.68%) at minimum 18-month (average 25.8 months) follow-up were detected., Discussion: The current USA ventilation design uses low velocity airflow and appears to achieve ultraclean air conditions at the surgical site but requires SHSs and strict protocols. In order to understand the temporal and spatial evolution pattern of dust pollution under blower and long-compression short-suction (LCSS) ventilation conditions at fully mechanized excavation faces in rock tunnels so as to effectively enhance dust removal efficiency, the present study conducts numerical simulation on the airflow field and dust dispersion associated with these two ventilation methods. The results indicate that the airflow pattern under the blower ventilation method is primarily dictated by the compressive jet field. The LCSS ventilation method leads to a continuous vortical airflow field, which makes the corresponding average dust concentration at fully mechanized excavation face lower than its counterpart associated with the blower ventilation method. The dust concentration roughly stabilizes after 193 s and 244 s for the LCSS and blower ventilation methods, respectively; due to the suction effect at the suction inlet at the front, the average dust dispersion velocity of LCSS ventilation method is lower than that of blower ventilation method, and it takes 141 s and 121 s to disperse dust to the tunnel outlet for the LCSS and blower ventilation methods, respectively. Despite the fact that the LCSS ventilation method is superior to the blower ventilation method, it still fails to deliver an effective dust control. The accuracy of the numerical simulation results is corroborated by field experiments. Furthermore, numerical simulation study is conducted to examine the impact of L p (i.e., distance between compressed airflow outlet and heading end) for a range between 5 m and 50 m. It is found that for L p  < 30 m, the airflow field is fairly turbulent without forming an air curtain for dust control, which makes the dust dispersion reach the entire tunnel; for L p  > 30 m, a dust-control air curtain is established at the heading machine driver's location, and the dust-control effect of air curtain is improved as L p increases from 30 m to beyond 35 m. This study monitored indoor environmental data in 144 classrooms in 31 schools in the Midwestern United States for two consecutive days every fall, winter, and spring during a two-year period; 3,105 pupils attended classrooms where the measurements were conducted. All classrooms were ventilated with mechanical systems that had recirculation; there were no operable exterior windows or doors. The daily absence rate at the student level and demographic data at the classroom level were collected. The overall mean ventilation rate, using outdoor air, was 5.5 L/s per person (the corresponding mean carbon dioxide concentrations were < 2,000 ppm), and the mean indoor PM 2.5 was 3.6 μg/m 3 . The annual illness-related absence rate at the classroom level was extracted from the student-level absence data and regressed on measured indoor environmental parameters. Significant associations were found. Every 1 L/s per person increase in ventilation rate was associated with a 5.59 decrease in days with absences per year. This corresponds to a 0.15% increase in the annual daily attendance rate. Every additional 1 μg/m 3  of indoor PM 2.5  was associated with a 7.37 increase in days with absences per year. This corresponds to a 0.19% decrease in the annual daily attendance rate. No other relationships were significant. Present results agree with the previously demonstrated benefits of reduced absence rates when classroom ventilation is improved and provide additional evidence on the potential benefits of reducing indoor inhalable particles. Introduction: A low count of airborne bacteria in the operating room is a means to prevent surgical site infection., Aim: To investigate levels of airborne bacteria during surgical procedures in two operating rooms with turbulent mixing ventilation (TMV) and unidirectional airflow (UDAF), both with an air supply of 2600 L/s, when staff used either reusable scrub suits made from a mixed material (dry penetration ≤300 cfu) or single-use scrub suits made from polypropylene (dry penetration ≤100 cfu)., Material and Methods: In the TMV-room cfu/m 3 air was measured during eight procedures with staff wearing reusable scrub suits and seven procedures with single-use scrub. In the UDAF-room cfu/m 3 air was measured during seven procedures with staff wearing reusable scrub suits., Findings: Mean values of cfu/m 3 air were 1.3-10.8 in the TMV-room with staff dressed in reusable scrub suits and 0.8-4.0 with staff dressed in single-use scrub suits (P<0.01). Mean values of cfu/m 3 air were 0.2-4.5 in the UDAF-room with staff dressed in reusable scrub suits. The difference obtained with reusable scrub suits in the two rooms was significant (P<0.01)., Conclusions: The mode of ventilation affects the cfu levels when staff are dressed in less occlusive scrub suits despite a high air supply. Indoor air quality (IAQ) influences the health and intellectual productivity of occupants. This paper summarizes studies investigating the relationship between intellectual productivity and IAQ with varying ventilation rates. We conducted a meta-analysis of five studies, with a total of 3679 participants, and performed subgroup analyses (arithmetic, verbal comprehension, and cognitive ability) based on the type of academic performance. The task performance speed and error rate were evaluated to measure intellectual productivity. The effect size of each study was evaluated using the standardized mean difference (SMD). In addition, we calculated a dose-response relationship between ventilation rate and intellectual productivity. The results show that the task performance speed improved, SMD: 0.18 (95% CI: 0.10-0.26), and the error rate decreased, SMD: -0.05 (95% CI: -0.11-0.00), with an increase in ventilation rate. Converting the intervention effect size on the SMD into the natural units of the outcome measure, our analyses show significant improvements in the task performance speed: 13.7% (95% CI: 6.2-20.5%) and 3.5% (95% CI: 0.9-6.1%) in terms of arithmetic tasks and cognitive ability, respectively. The error rate decreased by -16.1% (95% CI: -30.8-0%) in arithmetic tasks. These results suggest that adequate ventilation is necessary for good performance.

Currently, the real-life impact of indoor climate, human behaviour, ventilation and air filtration on respiratory pathogen detection and concentration are poorly understood. This hinders the interpretability of bioaerosol quantification in indoor air to surveil respiratory pathogens and transmission risk. We tested 341 indoor air samples from 21 community settings in Belgium for 29 respiratory pathogens using qPCR. On average, 3.9 pathogens were positive per sample and 85.3% of samples tested positive for at least one. Pathogen detection and concentration varied significantly by pathogen, month, and age group in generalised linear (mixed) models and generalised estimating equations. High CO 2 and low natural ventilation were independent risk factors for detection. The odds ratio for detection was 1.09 (95% CI 1.03-1.15) per 100 parts per million (ppm) increase in CO 2 , and 0.88 (95% CI 0.80-0.97) per stepwise increase in natural ventilation (on a Likert scale). CO 2 concentration and portable air filtration were independently associated with pathogen concentration. Each 100ppm increase in CO 2 was associated with a qPCR Ct value decrease of 0.08 (95% CI -0.12 to -0.04), and portable air filtration with a 0.58 (95% CI 0.25-0.91) increase. The effects of occupancy, sampling duration, mask wearing, vocalisation, temperature, humidity and mechanical ventilation were not significant. Objectives. The putty polishing procedure usually produces a large number of micron-sized particles, which can lead to serious respiratory diseases as well as skin conditions. The diagonal ventilation system is widely used to decrease the particle concentration in different environments. However, it becomes less effective for a large empty factory workshop, such as the polishing workshop for high-speed rail carriages, in which the diagonal ventilation mode usually results in turbulence in the airflow. In this article we report that the situation can be improved by optimizing the number and locations of the air inlets and outlets in the carriage-polishing workshop. Three modified ventilation modes are proposed, whose efficiencies are evaluated by numerical simulations and compared to the diagonal mode. Results. The results show that the mode with two inlets close to the ceiling and two outlets close to the floor yields the best performance. Besides, the optimum airflow rate under this mode is further determined by both simulations and in-situ measurements. The results reported can serve as a reference for the design of the ventilation systems in the polishing workshops of similar sizes.

Objectives: To review the risk of airborne infections in schools and evaluate the effect of intervention measures reported in field studies., Background: Schools are part of a country's critical infrastructure. Good infection prevention measures are essential for reducing the risk of infection in schools as much as possible, since these are places where many individuals spend a great deal of time together every weekday in a small area where airborne pathogens can spread quickly. Appropriate ventilation can reduce the indoor concentration of airborne pathogens and reduce the risk of infection., Methods: A systematic search of the literature was conducted in the databases Embase, MEDLINE, and ScienceDirect using keywords such as school, classroom, ventilation, carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) concentration, SARS-CoV-2, and airborne transmission. The primary endpoint of the studies selected was the risk of airborne infection or CO 2 concentration as a surrogate parameter. Studies were grouped according to the study type., Results: We identified 30 studies that met the inclusion criteria, six of them intervention studies. When specific ventilation strategies were lacking in schools being investigated, CO 2 concentrations were often above the recommended maximum values. Improving ventilation lowered the CO 2 concentration, resulting in a lower risk of airborne infections., Conclusions: The ventilation in many schools is not adequate to guarantee good indoor air quality. Ventilation is an important measure for reducing the risk of airborne infections in schools. The most important effect is to reduce the time of residence of pathogens in the classrooms.

This study investigated the indicators in the quantitative method of evaluating the smoke exhaust performance, which provided a theoretical basis for the optimization of the smoke extraction system under the lateral centralized mode in tunnel fires. The criterion was proposed for plug-holing, and the theoretical models of smoke exhaust efficiency were established to distinguish whether the plug-holing occurs or not. The relationship between efficiency, effectiveness, and efficacy was analyzed from the perspective of smoke and heat exhaust. Meanwhile, this evaluation method was applied to the optimization of exhaust volume in a practical engineering through FDS numerical simulation. The results show that Ri is a vital basis for reflecting the movement form of smoke and the exhaust effect. The critical value of Ri is 1.09 when plug-holing occurs in a standard three-lane immersed tunnel, resulting in a significant reduction in the efficiency of smoke exhaust. The greater the exhaust volume of the exhaust fan, the greater the Ri value, the higher the total smoke and heat exhaust efficiency, and the better the exhaust effectiveness of smoke inlets without plug-holing. The COVID-19 pandemic has generated a renewed interest in indoor air quality to limit viral spread. In the case of educational spaces, due to the high concentration of people and the fact that most of the existing buildings do not have any mechanical ventilation system, the different administrations have established natural ventilation protocols to guarantee an air quality that reduces risk of contagion by the SARS-CoV-2 virus after the return to the classrooms. Many of the initial protocols established a ventilation pattern that opted for continuous or intermittent ventilation to varying degrees of intensity. This study, carried out on a university campus in Spain, analyses the performance of natural ventilation activated through the information provided by monitoring and visualisation of real-time data. In order to carry out this analysis, a experiment was set up where a preliminary study of ventilation without providing information to the users was carried out, which was then compared with the result of providing live feedback to the occupants of two classrooms and an administration office in different periods of 2020, 2021 and 2022. In the administration office, a CO 2 -concentration-based method was applied retrospectively to assess the risk of airborne infection. This experience has served as a basis to establish a route for user-informed improvement of air quality in educational spaces in general through low-cost systems that allow a rational use of natural ventilation while helping maintain an adequate compromise between IAQ, comfort and energy consumption, without having to resort to mechanical ventilation systems.

An indoor environment in a hospital building requires a high indoor air quality (IAQ) to overcome patients' risks of getting wound infections without interrupting the recovery process. However, several problems arose in obtaining a satisfactory IAQ, such as poor ventilation design strategies, insufficient air exchange, improper medical equipment placement and high door opening frequency. This paper presents an overview of various methods used for assessing the IAQ in hospital facilities, especially in an operating room, isolation room, anteroom, postoperative room, inpatient room and dentistry room. This review shows that both experimental and numerical methods demonstrated their advantages in the IAQ assessment. It was revealed that both airflow and particle tracking models could result in different particle dispersion predictions. The model selection should depend on the compatibility of the simulated result with the experimental measurement data. The primary and secondary forces affecting the characteristics of particle dispersion were also discussed in detail. The main contributing forces to the trajectory characteristics of a particle could be attributed to the gravitational force and drag force regardless of particle size. Meanwhile, the additional forces could be considered when there involves temperature gradient, intense light source, submicron particle, etc. The particle size concerned in a healthcare facility should be less than 20 μm as this particle size range showed a closer relationship with the virus load and a higher tendency to remain airborne. Airplane cabin ventilation is essential to ensure passengers' well-being. The conventional ventilation method is mixing ventilation with a statistically steady supply, which, according to former studies, has reached its limits regarding, for example, the ventilation efficiency. However, the effect of a statistically unsteady (time-periodic) supply on the mixing ventilation efficiency has remained largely unexplored. This research uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) with the large eddy simulation (LES) approach to study isothermal time-periodic mixing ventilation in a section of a single-aisle airplane cabin model, in which the air exhaled by the passengers functions as (passive) contaminants. Two time-periodic supply strategies are evaluated. The induced time-periodic airflow patterns promote an efficient delivery of fresh air to the passenger zone and affect the passengers' expiratory plumes. This results in increased mean contaminant mass fluxes, causing a strong reduction of the mean contaminant concentrations in the passenger zone (up to 23%) and an increased contaminant extraction from the cabin. Mean velocities increase with up to 55% but remain within the comfortable range. The present study examines the effect of medical staff's turning movements on particle concentration in the surgical zone and settlement on the patient under single large diffuser (SLD) ventilation. A computational domain representing the operating room (OR) was constructed using computer-aided design (CAD) software. The airflow and particle models were validated against the published data before conducting the case studies. The airflow in the OR was simulated using an RNG k-ε turbulence model, while the dispersion of the particles was simulated using a discrete phase model based on the Lagrangian approach. A user-defined function (UDF) code was written and compiled in the simulation software to describe the medical staff member's turning movements. In this study, three cases were examined: baseline, SLD 1, and SLD 2, with the air supply areas of 4.3 m 2 , 5.7 m 2 , and 15.9 m 2 , respectively. Results show that SLD ventilations in an OR can reduce the number of dispersed particles in the surgical zone. The particles that settled on the patient were reduced by 41% and 39% when using the SLD 1 and SLD 2 ventilations, respectively. The use of the larger air supply area of SLD 2 ventilation in the present study does not significantly reduce the particles that settle on a patient. Over centuries different elements have been developed in architectures for ensuring adequate natural ventilation in residential units. This study assesses the different components of an ancient windmill in Sistan, Iran, on the structure's indoor air quality (IAQ) enhancement. Several climatic scenarios have been defined by the wind analysis of Sistan meteorological data and analyzed by CFD. The site measurements confirm the accuracy of the simulation results. In the windmill, two deflectors facing the prevailing wind are the significant elements which, in addition to directing wind toward the entrance, could form vortices near the east and west openings leading to suction ventilation. Alteration of the wind speed and angle from 10 to 15 m/s and 30° to 17° would increase the air change per hour (ACH) by 150% and 110%, respectively. Finding the optimal balance between end-user's comfort, lifestyle preferences and the cost of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, which requires intelligent decision making and control. This paper proposes a heating control method for HVAC based on dynamic programming. The method first selects the most suitable modeling approach for the controlled building among three machine learning modeling techniques by means of statistical performance metrics, after which the control of the HVAC system is described as a constrained optimization problem, and the action of the controller is given by solving the optimization problem through dynamic programming. In this paper, the variable 'thermal energy storage in building' is introduced to solve the problem that dynamic programming is difficult to obtain the historical state of the building due to the requirement of no aftereffect, while the room temperature and the remaining start hours of the Primary Air Unit are selected to describe the system state through theoretical analysis and trial and error. The results of the TRNSYS/Python co-simulation show that the proposed method can maintain better indoor thermal environment with less energy consumption compared to carefully reviewed expert rules. Compared with expert rule set 'baseline-20 °C', which keeps the room temperature at the minimum comfort level, the proposed control algorithm can save energy and reduce emissions by 35.1% with acceptable comfort violation.

With increases in the time spent on indoor activities, the interests and technological demands regarding indoor air quality (IAQ) have also increased. Indoor air pollution is often caused by furniture or construction materials and chemical substances, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). As a way to remove such pollutants, efforts have been made to promote the management of indoor air quality through emission experiments. To conduct an experiment, such as the pollutant emission experiment involving substances harmful to the human body, a chamber to control various factors should be developed. By using such chambers, experimental variables can be minimized, quantitative analyses may be conducted, and the basic theory may be discussed. When the chamber is installed, it is not easy to change the existing installed conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to review feasibility with an accurate design. However, there is limited research on both how to quantitatively design the chamber and evaluate it. Therefore, this study investigates suitable chamber design methods and performance through ventilation performance evaluation to discuss potential development methods. In the chamber design step, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis was performed to estimate the ventilation efficiency according to the inlet and outlet positions to develop an 8-m 3 chamber. Next, a ventilation experiment was performed using the tracer gas method for the performance evaluation, while the chamber interior airflow was simulated based on the CFD analysis. In a ventilation experiment using a tracer gas, the variation in gas density leads to concentration imbalance; as a result of concentration imbalance at each point, errors may occur in ventilation efficiency depending on the measurement point, causing the accuracy of the performance evaluation to fall. An attempt was made to resolve this problem by performing the ventilation experiment with a ceiling fan. The result indicated that the performance evaluation could be conducted without altering ventilation efficiency, coinciding with the CFD analysis result. Furthermore, when the concentration field was examined according to time in the CFD analysis, uniform concentration of chamber interior air allowed the ventilation efficiency to be calculated irrespective of the measurement point. Based on the findings, this study suggests a quantitative method of performance evaluation with an experiment in an 8-m 3 chamber and a concurrent CFD analysis.

Airborne transmission of respiratory aerosols carrying infectious viruses has generated many concerns about cross-contamination risks, particularly in indoor environments. ANSYS Fluent software has been used to investigate the dispersion of the viral particles generated during a coughing event and their transport dynamics inside a safe social-distance meeting room. Computational fluid dynamics based on coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian techniques are used to explore the characteristics of the airflow field in the domain. The main objective of this study is to investigate the effects of the window opening frequency, exhaust layouts, and the location of the air conditioner systems on the dispersion of the particles. The results show that reducing the output capacity by raising the concentration of suspended particles and increasing their traveled distance caused a growth in the individuals' exposure to contaminants. Moreover, decreasing the distance between the ventilation systems installed location and the ceiling can drop the fraction of the suspended particles by over 35%, and the number of individuals who are subjected to becoming infected by viral particles drops from 6 to 2. As well, the results demonstrated when the direction of input airflow and generated particles were the same, the fraction of suspended particles of 4.125%, whereas if the inputs were shifted to the opposite direction of particle injection, the fraction of particles in fluid increased by 5.000%., (© 2022. The COVID-19 pandemic has made significant impacts on public health, including human exposure to airborne pathogens. In healthcare facilities, the locations of return air vents in ventilation systems may have important effects on lowering airborne SARS-CoV-2 transmission. This study conducted experiments to examine the influence of different return air vents' heights (0.7 m, 1.2 m, and 1.6 m) on the particle removal effects in a simulated patient ward. Three different ventilation systems were examined: top celling air supply-side wall return (TAS), underfloor air supply-side wall return (UFAS) and side wall air supply-side wall return (SAS). CFD simulation was applied to further study the effects of return air inlets' heights (0.3 m, 0.7 m, 1.2 m, 1.6 m, and 2.0 m) and air exchange rates. The technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) analysis was used to calculate the comprehensive scores of 60 scenarios using a multi-criterion method to obtain the optimal return air inlets' heights. Results showed that for each additional 0.5 m distance in most working conditions, the inhalation fraction index of medical staff could be reduced by about 5-20%. However, under certain working conditions, even though the distances between the patients and medical personnel were different, the optimal heights of return air vents were constant. For TAS and UFAS, the optimal return air inlets' height was 1.2 m, while for SAS, the best working condition was 1.6 m air supply and 0.7 m air return. At the optimum return air heights, the particle decay rate per hour of SAS was 75% higher than that of TAS, and the rate of particle decay per hour of SAS was 21% higher than that of UFAS. The location of return air inlets could further affect the operating cost-effectiveness of ventilation systems: the highest operating cost-effectiveness was 8 times higher than the lowest one.

Maintenance of an appropriate microenvironment for rodents used in research is of paramount importance because changes in environmental parameters such as O₂ and humidity can influence animal health and welfare and potentially alter research results. Here we evaluated the microenvironment of mouse and rat disposable cages after removal from mechanical ventilation in order to guide recommendations for their use. Cages with sealed IVC lids, unsealed lids (partially ajar), and lids without the exhaust filter (for rats) or static lids (for mice) were removed from the ventilated rack and were thereafter monitored CO₂, O₂, and NH₃ levels. For mice, effects were investigated under both standard (set point of 72°F/22°C) and thermoneutral (set point of 82°F/28°C) temperatures. When IVC with sealed lids and group-housed C57BL/6J male mice were removed from ventilation under standard temperatures, CO₂ started at 6,600 ± 265 ppm at 0 h and rose to 42,500 ± 7,263 ppm at 1 h, with mice showing a visibly elevated respiratory rate in 1 of the 3 cages; CO₂ stabilized at 26,150 ± 3,323 ppm at 8 h. In contrast, CO₂ levels in cages with single mice were stable after 1 h (1,350 ± 409 ppm at 0 h, 9,367 ± 802 ppm at 1 h, and 8,333 ± 1,115 ppm at 8 h). Findings were similar at thermoneutral temperatures: sealed group-housed mice cages started at 3,617 ± 475 ppm at 0 h and rose to 39,333 ± at 5,058 ppm at 1 h, whereas sealed cages with 1 mouse started at 1,117 ± 247 ppm at 0 h and were 7,500 ± 1,997 ppm at 8 h. IVC with sealed lids and pair-housed Crl:CD(SD) female rats rose to 48,000 ± 2,828 ppm CO₂ and over 70% humidity within 1 h. By 3 h, IVC with sealed lids and singly housed rats had 40,167 ± 5,132 ppm CO₂, and rats were displaying a visually elevated respiratory rate. O₂ levels had an inverse relationship with CO₂ levels. Removing the rat lid exhaust filter was not helpful. However, leaving the IVC lid ajar ameliorated the rise in CO₂ and fall in O₂ for both species. Therefore, IVC with sealed lids and group-housed mice should not be removed from ventilation more than 1 to 2 h; IVC containing pair- or singly-housed rats IVC should not be removed for more than 1 or 3 h, respectively. Whenever possible, such cages should be fitted with static lids, left partially ajar and monitored, or replaced on ventilation.

Dental professionals are at high risk of exposure to communicable diseases during clinical practice, but many dental clinics provide clinical care in closed spaces. Therefore, it is essential to develop efficient ventilation methods in dental clinics that do not rely on natural ventilation. In this study, to clarify the factors that cause air retention in dental offices, we conducted computational flow dynamics simulations focusing on (1) the flow path from the entrance to the exhaust port and (2) the presence of partitions. A three-dimensional model of a dental clinic with three dental chairs was created, and simulations were conducted for scenarios with and without partitions with different entrance and exhaust port positions. Evaluation of these simulations on the basis of the age of air, an indicator of ventilation efficiency, showed that the value of the air age near the partition was locally high in the scenarios with partitions. In the scenarios where the exhaust port was located close to the entrance, the air age near the exhaust port was high, regardless of the presence of a partition. In addition to wearing protective clothing and sterilizing instruments, it is important to consider air quality improvement as a countermeasure against airborne and droplet infections, such as virus infections, in dental clinics., (© 2022. Proper air distribution is crucial for airborne infection risk control of infectious respiratory diseases like COVID-19. Existing studies evaluate and compare the performances of different air distributions for airborne infection risk control, but the mechanisms of air distribution for airborne infection risk control remain unclear. This study investigates the mechanisms of air distribution for both overall and local airborne infection risk controls. The experimentally validated CFD models simulate the contaminant concentration fields in a hospital ward based on which the airborne infection risks of COVID-19 are evaluated with the dilution-based expansion of the Wells-Riley model. Different air distributions, i.e., stratum ventilation, displacement ventilation, and mixing ventilation, with various supply airflow rates are tested. The results show that the variations of the overall and local airborne infection risks under different air distributions and different supply airflow rates are complicated and non-linear. The contaminant removal and the contaminant dispersion are proposed as the mechanisms for the overall and local airborne infection risk controls, respectively, regardless of airflow distributions and supply airflow rates. A large contaminant removal ability benefits the overall airborne infection risk control, with the coefficient of determination of 0.96 between the contaminant removal index and the reciprocal of the overall airborne infection risk. The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which suddenly appeared at the beginning of 2020, revealed our knowledge deficits in terms of ventilation and air pollution control. It took many weeks to realize that aerosols are the main route of transmission. The initial attempt to hold back these aerosols through textile masks seemed almost helpless, although there is sufficient knowledge about the retention capacity of fabric filters for aerosols. In the absence of a sufficient number of permanently installed heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, three main approaches are pursued: (a) increasing the air exchange rate by supplying fresh air, (b) using mobile air purifiers, and (c) disinfection by introducing active substances into the room air. This article discusses the feasibility of these different approaches critically. It also provides experimental results of air exchange measurements in a school classroom that is equipped with a built-in fan for supplying fresh air. With such a fan and a window tilted at the appropriate distance, an air exchange rate of 5/h can be set at a low power level and without any significant noise pollution. Heat balance calculations show that no additional heat exchanger is necessary in a normal classroom with outside temperatures above 10°C. Furthermore, a commercial mobile air purifier is studied in a chamber and a test room setup in order to examine and evaluate the efficiency of such devices against viable viruses under controlled and realistic conditions. Objectives: Breathlessness is common among terminally ill patients with cardiorespiratory disease or cancer. The experience may induce secondary physiological and behavioral responses that limit patient well-being and independence and cause emotional distress., Methods: We conducted a meta-analysis on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that examined the effectiveness of fan blowing on breathlessness among patients with cardiorespiratory diseases or cancer. The PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, SCOPUS, and CINAHL databases were searched to retrieve potential articles. The primary outcome was breathlessness severity. The secondary outcomes were SpO 2 , anxiety, depression, and quality of life. Also, we presented the changes of vital signs and subjective feeling of a male patient who used fan blowing for relieving his breathlessness., Results: Eight RCTs were available for analysis. The pooled results demonstrated no significant difference in breathlessness severity between fan-to-face blowing and control methods (standard mean difference: -0.21, 95% confidence interval: -.59 to .17); however, a significant reduction in breathlessness severity was observed in the short-time intervention compared with long-time intervention. A trend occurred toward significance in the reduction of respiratory rate in fan-to-face blowing compared with control methods (MD: -.64, 95% CI: -1.37 to .09). No differences were observed between groups in oxygen saturation, anxiety, depression, or QoL. The male patient who used fan blowing showed an improved vital signs and a satisfied subjective feeling., Conclusions: Consistent short-time fan-to-face blowing is effective for relieving breathlessness among conscious terminally ill patients with cardiorespiratory diseases or cancer. The use of this convenient method for relieving breathlessness symptoms in terminally ill patients is recommended.

In a virus pandemic context, buildings ventilation has been recognized as a solution for preventing transmission of the virus in aerosolized form. The impact of the widespread recommendation of window opening and sealing door on ventilation circuits needs to be considered with a multizone approach. We modeled the airflow distribution in a building where people are isolating in a pandemic context, including one infected person. We analyzed the impact of opening the window and sealing the door in the quarantine room on exposures and probability of infection for occupants of the flat and of adjacent flats. In order to study the sensitivity of the results, we tested three ventilation systems: balanced, exhaust-only, and humidity-based demand-controlled, and several window- and door-opening strategies. When the door of the quarantine room is sealed, we observe that opening the window in the quarantine room always results in increased exposure and probability of infection for at least one other occupant, including in neighbors' apartments. When all internal doors are opened, we observe moderate impacts, with rather an increase of exposure of the occupants of the same apartments and of their probability of infection, and a decrease for the occupants located in other apartments. Based on the analysis on the airflows distribution in this case study, we conclude that sealing the internal door has more influence than opening the window of the quarantine room, whatever the ventilation system. We observe that this widespread recommendation to open the window of a quarantine room and to seal the door is based on the consideration of a single zone model. We illustrate the importance of moving from such a single zone approach to a multizone approach for quantifying ventilation and airing impacts in multizone buildings as residences in order to prevent epidemics of viruses such as SARS-CoV-2.
