Abstract Prosopis juliflora (PJ) fibre-reinforced polymer composites are fabricated with fly ash and SiC as fillers with different weight percentages. Jute layers are also sandwiched for added strength in the structure. The wear behaviour is found for the prepared composition of samples. Pin-on-disc wear testing apparatus is used for the wear performance along with the design of experiments approach using orthogonal arrays of Taguchi’s. The effect of the input parameters (load, sliding velocity, speed) is studied on wear resistance. The experimental design creates sliding wear evaluations based on Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array to identify the most dominating factors influencing the wear rate. This study demonstrates that the most important component affecting the sliding wear rate of the composite materials is followed by the sliding velocity, speed, and load. The result of the wear rate decreases with an increase in filler content and also increases with sliding velocity. The samples with fly ash and SiC fillers reportedly seemed to have the best wear rates.

In this millennium, non-wood plants have emerged as a substitute for fibrous substantial attributing to growth in population, industrialization and education. Natural fiber composites are crucial for creating high-performance engineering resources because of their easy accessibility, capacity to be recycled and environmental friendliness. Products from the palm are important and cost-effective for both civic and pastoral locations. The palm fruit cluster, leaf trunks and leaves are utilized domestically and parts are thrown away as waste. This palm waste product is used as a raw substantial for reinforcement in polymer composites as well as a possible source for natural fibers. An overview of the advancements made in the field of Arecaceae (palm) family-based fiber-reinforced composites is presented including information on their current market, matrix combinations, physical qualities, environmental implications, manufacturing methods, chemical processing and acoustic features. In order to optimize the utilization of this bio-based substance and ensure its bright future, a number of important challenges are explored along with ideas for further investigation. The discussion of the impact of palm fibers on final products and the literature analysis highlight additive manufacturing and machine learning-based optimization methods for natural fiber composites (NFC).

AbstractExperimental analysis is carried out on the mechanical characteristics of fiber-reinforced that can be produced by adding basalt fibers to strengthened jute fiber-reinforced epoxy composites in both the warp and weft orientations. A three-parameter/three-level Design of Experiment technique called the Box–Behnken design (BBD) is used to ascertain the relationship between the input parameters and the response. Mechanical testing was done on the composite plates after fabrication to estimate the tensile strength of the composites in both the warp and weft directions. The basalt fiber content of the composite was around 0.5 wt.%, 1 wt.% and 1.5 wt.%; the sonication period was 20, 30 and 40 min; and the temperature was approximately 60 °C, 70 °C and 80 °C. In the warp and weft directions, the maximum ultimate tensile stresses are measured to be 34.03 MPa and 36.32 MPa, respectively. Analysis of Variance is used to determine the regression equation and the influence of the input parameters. The optimum ‘ultimate tensile stress’ is 40.162 MPa for warp direction and 35.445 MPa for weft direction with 1.5 wt.% filler weight, 40 min of sonication and 60 °C temperature.

Abstract Composites are the recent ever-growing trend in the materials field of engineering. They have numerous applications in aerospace and automobile which make composites an inevitable research area. Currently, the research flow pattern centres around making sustainable green composites with accessible and overabundance of assets to contribute towards eco-friendly surroundings and waste management. In this paper, an attempt is made to reinforce natural fibres in polymer composite instead of synthetic fibres which are mostly non-biodegradable. Composite specimens are made with chemically treated cellulose microfibrils as reinforcements and epoxy as a matrix. Fatigue analysis of specimens prepared is carried out using ANSYS. The number of samples is decided based on the Box Behnken design (BBD), a design of experiments (DOE) method. The influences of parameters such as NaOH %, fibre diameter and Wt. % of Fibre on composite’s fatigue behaviour are investigated using analysis of variance (ANOVA). Optimised values of the input parameters are found to be 18.08 NaOH %, 250 µm fibre diameter and 3.778 Wt. % of Fibre which yields 1.3 x 106 cycles.

The study focuses on Palm fruit Fibers (PF) extracted from the palmyra palm tree (Borassus flabellifer) treated with 5 % alkali solution (NaOH). This treatment eliminates impurities from the fiber surface and enhances bonding with the epoxy matrix. Epoxy composites, reinforced with PF/nanofillers (h-BN, Al2O3 and MWCNT), are developed by using the box Behnken method (BBD) and dielectric constant is investigated under high-frequency and electrical field conditions. Dielectric constants (K) of the nanocomposites are determined using various capacitor terminal setups. The electrical properties of the Epoxy/PF nanocomposite, based on fiber content (Wt. %), fiber mesh size (μm) and nanofillers are evaluated using response surface methodology (RSM). Models, predicting nanocomposite dielectric constants, are established, fitting experimental values closely with R2 nearing 1 and residuals adhering to a normal probability plot. The optimized dielectric constant of 1.05 is achieved at 3 wt% palm fiber content, 150 μm fiber mesh size and 1 wt% nano h-BN.

Polymer composites reinforced with natural fibers have made great strides in industrial appliance use owing to the fibers exceptional composite properties, low environmental impact, and long lifespan. Five natural fibers-banana, sugar cane, coir, wood, and rice husk—are employed as short fibers in this experiment. The electrical and thermal properties of hybrid filler polymer (HFP) composites are also examined in relation to the thermal conductivity nano hBN filler weight ratio. HFP composites are prepared using the Taguchi design to select nano filler ratios and fifteen tests. Experimental results demonstrate that HFP composites with the maximum h-BN content are the most electrically and thermally robust. HFP composite material has the highest thermal conductivity and electrical resistance of 1.01 W/m-K and 346.91 Giga-Ohms respectively, with 5 % nano hBN and 2 % RH (sample 6). Nano h-BN fillers positively increase the thermal conductivity and electrical resistance of the composite structures. An improvement in thermal conductivity and electrical resistance is evident for the sample 6 composite, which increased by 16.09 % and 154.05 %, respectively, compared to the S1 interlaced multiphase hybrid polymer composite. Sample 4, containing rice husk fiber, achieves the minimal dielectric constant of 0.94, whereas sample 12, containing banana fiber, achieves a dielectric constant of 0.98. ANOVA is used to determine how such variables affect output variables. Performance measures are determined using the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system model with a hybrid grey base. Using the adaptive network-based fuzzy inference system, the input-output relation is modeled. After comparing experimental and ANFIS-anticipated data, the latter accurately predicted HFP composite behaviour. The combination of h-BN and natural fiber composites holds significant potential for various electrical and thermal applications due to their exceptional overall properties.

A new series of pincer type ruthenium(II) Schiff base complexes namely [Ru(CO)(PPh3)2(L1‒6)] (1–6) (where, L1‒6 ​= ​NOO ‒ donors of tri-dentate ligands) have been synthesized from ruthenium precursor such as [RuHCl(CO)(PPh3)3] containing tri-dentate Schiff bases ligands (H2L1‒H2L6). These ruthenium complexes were analyzed by elemental analysis and diverse characterizations such as FT‒IR, UV–Vis and NMR (1H and 31P) spectroscopy studies. The crystal structure of one of the complexes 5 ([Ru(CO)(PPh3)2L5]) was determined by single crystal X‒ray crystallography that revealed pincer type of coordination mode of complexes. Furthermore, complexes 1–6 have been utilized for transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones to secondary alcohols in the presence of i‒PrOH/KOH. The catalytic efficiency of complexes showed an efficient for transfer hydrogenation of ketones with alcohol as moderate to high conversions.
