Mood refers to emotional feelings involved in the modulation of personal responses, while coping strategies are tools used to manage difficult or stressful situations. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between mood and coping strategies in university students. A quantitative approach, nonexperimental design, cross-sectional and descriptive correlational scope was used. The Mood Rating Scale (EVEA) and the Coping Strategies Inventory (CSI) were administered to 280 university students, aged 18 to 29 years. The results showed a positive correlation between the variables studied; in the majority of the population, the mood they presented was cheerfulness, and the coping strategies used included desiderative thinking, problem solving, social withdrawal and self-criticism. In addition, it was found that there was no significant difference between mood state and sex, indicating that an individual's mood state is independent of biological sex. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
