In this study, we analyze the vacuum stability of the economical 331 model at the one-loop level using the renormalization group equations and a single-scale renormalization method. By integrating these equations, we determine stability conditions up to the Planck scale, incorporating constraints from recent experimental data on new Higgs-like bosons, charged scalars, and charged and neutral gauge bosons. Our analysis uncovers intriguing relations between the mass of the heaviest scalar and the masses of exotic quarks, in order to ensure stability of the model up to the Planck scale. For the 331 energy scale used in this work, $18$ TeV, we find an upper bound on the heaviest quark mass of the model, which is not so distant from future LHC runs, serving as bounds to be searched. Additionally, we explore relations between the scalar couplings coming stability and perturbativity conditions. These impose unprecedented constraints on the economical 331 model.

Motivated by a possible interplay between the mechanism of dynamical symmetry breaking and the seesaw mechanism for generating fermion masses, we present a scale-invariant model that extends the gauge symmetry of the Standard Model electroweak sector to SU(3)$_L\otimes$U(1)$_X\otimes$U(1)$_N$, with a built-in $B-L$ symmetry. The model is based on the symmetry structure of the known 3-3-1 models and, thus, it relates the number of the three observed fermion generations with the cancellation of gauge anomalies. Symmetry breaking is triggered via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism taking into account a minimal set of scalar field multiplets. We establish the stability conditions for the tree-level scalar potential imposing the copositivity criteria and use the method of Gildener-Weinberg for computing the one-loop effective potential when one has multiple scalar fields. With the addition of vectorial fermions, getting their mass mainly through the vacuum expectation value of scalar singlets at $10^3$ TeV, the $B-L$ symmetry leads to textures for the fermion mass matrices, allowing seesaw mechanisms for neutrinos and quarks to take place. In particular, these mechanisms could partly explain the mass hierarchies of the quarks. Once the breakdown of the SU(3)$_L$ symmetry is supposed to occur around 10 TeV, the model also predicts new particles with TeV-scale masses, such as a neutral scalar, $H_{1}$, a charged scalar, $H^\pm$, and the gauge bosons $Z^{\prime}$, $W^{\prime\pm}$ and $Y^0$, that could be searched with the high-luminosity LHC., Comment: 28 pages, 2 tables; typos corrected, subsec. We delve into the first principles of quantum field theory to prove that the so-called spin-1/2 ''bosons'' and the fermions with mass dimension 1, including ELKO, cannot represent physical particle states with spin $1/2$. Specifically, we first demonstrate that both aforementioned fields are not invariant under rotational symmetry, which implies that the particles created for these fields are not eigenstates of the spin operator in the $(\frac{1}{2},0)\oplus(0,\frac{1}{2})$ representation of the Lorentz group, nor is it possible to construct a Hamiltonian density scalar under the rotational group from them. Furthermore, following Weinberg's approach to local causal fields, we prove that regardless of any discrete symmetry or adjoint structure, the relativistic fields in the $(\frac{1}{2}, 0) \oplus (0,\frac{1}{2})$ representation satisfy the Fermi-Dirac statistics in complete agreement with the well-established spin-statistics theorem and experimental results., Comment: 9 pages

We propose an extension of the Standard Model (SM) based on the $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ (3-3-1) gauge symmetry and scale invariance. Maintaining the main features of the so-called 3-3-1 models, such as the cancellation of gauge anomalies related to the number of chiral fermion generations, this model exhibits a very compact scalar sector. Only two scalar triplets and one singlet are necessary and sufficient to break the symmetries dynamically via the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. With the introduction of an Abelian discrete symmetry and assuming a natural hierarchy among the vacuum expectation values of the neutral scalar fields, we show that all particles in the model can get phenomenologically consistent masses. In particular, most of the standard fermion masses are generated via a seesaw mechanism involving some extra heavy fermions introduced for consistency. This mechanism provides a partial solution for the fermion mass hierarchy problem in the SM. Furthermore, the simplicity of the scalar sector allows us to analytically find the conditions for the potential stability up to one-loop level and show how they can be easily satisfied. Some of the new particles, such as the scalars $H$, $H^\pm$ and all the non-SM vector bosons, are predicted to get masses around the TeV scale and, therefore, could be produced at the high-luminosity LHC. Finally, we show that the model features a residual symmetry which leads to the stability of a heavy neutral particle; the latter is expected to show up in experiments as missing energy., Comment: new references added and an additional paragraph on the spectrum of the TeV-scale particles

This white paper summarizes the activities of the Brazilian community concerning dark matter physics and highlights the importance of financial support to Brazilian groups that are deeply involved in experimental endeavours. The flagships of the Brazilian dark matter program are the Cherenkov Telescope Array, DARKSIDE, SBN and LHC experiments, but we emphasize that smaller experiments such as DAMIC and CONNIE constitute important probes to dark sectors as well and should receive special attention. Small experimental projects showing the potential to probe new regions of parameter space of dark matter models are encouraged. On the theoretical and phenomenological side, some groups are devoted to astrophysical aspects such as the dark matter density profile while others explore the signature of dark matter models at colliders, direct and indirect detection experiments. By applying copositivity criterion to the scalar potential of the economical $3-3-1$ model, we derive necessary and sufficient bounded-from-below conditions at tree level. Although these are a large number of intricate inequalities for the dimensionless parameters of the scalar potential, we present general enlightening relations in this work. Additionally, we use constraints coming from the minimization of the scalar potential by means of the orbit space method, the positivity of the squared masses of the extra scalars, the Higgs boson mass, the $Z'$ gauge boson mass and its mixing angle with the SM $Z$ boson in order to further restrict the parameter space of this model., Comment: 22 pages, 7 figures, added text and references. The $\mu\tau$-reflection symmetric neutrino mass matrix can accommodate all known neutrino mixing angles, with maximal atmospheric angle fixed, and predicts all the unknown CP phases of the lepton sector but is unable to predict the absolute neutrino mass scale. Here we present a highly predictive scenario where $\mu\tau$-reflection is combined with a discrete abelian symmetry to enforce a texture-zero in the mass matrix of the heavy right-handed neutrinos that generate the light neutrino masses. Such a restriction reduces the free parameters of the low energy theory to zero and the absolute neutrino mass scale is restricted to few discrete regions, three in the few meV range and one extending up to around 30 meV. The heavy neutrino sector is dependent only on two free parameters which are further restricted to small regions from the requirement of successful leptogenesis. Slightly extending a right-handed neutrino version of the $3-3-1$ model, we show that it is not only possible to solve the strong CP problem but also to give the total dark matter abundance reported by the Planck collaboration. Specifically, we consider the possibility of introducing a $3-3-1$ scalar singlet to implement a gravity stable Peccei-Quinn mechanism in this model. Remarkably, for allowed regions of the parameter space, the arising axions with masses $m_a\approx$ meV can both make up the total dark matter relic density through non-thermal production mechanisms and be very close to the region to be explored by the IAXO helioscope., Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures

We present a framework linking axionlike particles (ALPs) to neutrino masses through the minimal inverse seesaw (ISS) mechanism in order to explain the dark matter (DM) puzzle. Specifically, we explore three minimal ISS cases where mass scales are generated through gravity-induced operators involving a scalar field hosting ALPs. In all of these cases, we find gravity-stable models providing the observed DM relic density and, simultaneously, consistent with the phenomenology of neutrinos and ALPs. Remarkably, in one of the ISS cases, the DM can be made of ALPs and sterile neutrinos. In the framework of a 3-3-1 model with right-handed neutrinos and three scalar triplets we consider different spontaneous symmetry breaking patterns seeking for a non-linear realization of accidental symmetries of the model, which will produce physical Nambu-Goldstone (NG) bosons in the neutral scalar spectrum. We make a detailed study of the safety of the model concerning the NG boson emission in energy loss processes which could affect the standard evolution of astrophysical objects. We consider the model with a $\mathbb{Z}_2$ symmetry, conventionally used in the literature, finding that in all of the symmetry breaking patterns the model is excluded. Additionally, looking for solutions for that problem, we introduce soft $\mathbb{Z}_2$-breaking terms in the scalar potential in order to remove the extra accidental symmetries and at the same time maintain the model as simple as possible. We find that there is only one soft $\mathbb{Z}_2$-violating term that can get rid of the problematic NG bosons., Comment: 16 pages

The $\mu\tau$-reflection symmetry is a simple symmetry capable of predicting all the unknown CP phases of the lepton sector and the atmospheric angle but too simple to predict the absolute neutrino mass scale or the mass ordering. We show that by combining it with a discrete abelian symmetry in a nontrivial way we can additionally enforce a texture-zero and obtain a highly predictive scenario where the lightest neutrino mass is fixed to be in the few meV range for two normal ordering (NO) solutions or in the tens of meV in one inverted ordering (IO) solution. We build a supersymmetric version with $SU(3)_C\otimes SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_{Y^\prime}\otimes U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry, where $Y^\prime$ is a new charge and $B$ and $L$ are the usual baryonic and leptonic numbers. The model has three right-handed neutrinos with identical $B-L$ charges, and can accommodate all fermion masses at the tree level. In particular, the type-I seesaw mechanism is implemented for the generation of the active neutrino masses. In this work we present a common framework for neutrino mass and dark matter. Specifically, we work with a local $\mathcal{B-L}$ extension of the standard model which has three right-handed neutrinos, $n_{R_{i}}$, and some extra scalars, $\Phi$, $\phi_{i}$ besides the standard model fields. The $n_{R_{i}}$'s have non-standard $\mathcal{B-L}$ quantum numbers and thus these couple to different scalars. This model has the attractive property that an almost automatic $Z_2$ symmetry acting only on a fermionic field, $n_{R3}$, is present. Taking advantage of this $Z_2$ symmetry, we study both the neutrino mass generation via a natural see-saw mechanism in low energy and the possibility of $n_{R3}$ to be a DM candidate. Light pseudoscalars known as axion like particles (ALPs) may be behind physical phenomena like the Universe transparency to ultra-energetic photons, the soft $\gamma$-ray excess from the Coma cluster, and the 3.5 keV line. We explore the connection of these particles with the inverse seesaw (ISS) mechanism for neutrino mass generation. We propose a very restrictive setting where the scalar field hosting the ALP is also responsible for generating the ISS mass scales through its vacuum expectation value on gravity induced nonrenormalizable operators. A discrete gauge symmetry protects the theory from the appearance of overly strong gravitational effects and discrete anomaly cancellation imposes strong constraints on the order of the group. The anomalous U$(1)$ symmetry leading to the ALP is an extended lepton number and the protective discrete symmetry can be always chosen as a subgroup of a combination of the lepton number and the baryon number., Comment: 29pp. v4: published version with erratum. In the framework of a 3-3-1 model with a minimal scalar sector, known as the economical 3-3-1 model, we study its capabilities of generating realistic quark masses. After a detailed study of the symmetries of the model, before and after the spontaneous symmetry breaking, we find a remaining axial symmetry that prevents some quarks to gain mass at all orders in perturbation theory. Since this accidental symmetry is anomalous, we also consider briefly the possibility to generate their masses for non-perturbative effects. However, we find that non-perturbative effects are not enough to generate the measured masses for that three massless quarks. Hence, these results imply that the economical 3-3-1 model is not a realistic description of the electroweak interaction and it has to be modified., Comment: 11 pages, no figures

In this work, we implement a complex scalar Dark Matter (DM) candidate in a $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge extension of the Standard Model. The model contains three right handed neutrinos with different quantum numbers and a rich scalar sector, with extra doublets and singlets. In principle, these extra scalars can have VEVs ($V_{\Phi}$ and $V_{\phi}$ for the extra doublets and singlets, respectively) belonging to different energy scales. In the context of $\zeta\equiv\frac{V_{\Phi}}{V_{\phi}}\ll1$, which allows to obtain naturally light active neutrino masses and mixing compatible with neutrino experiments, the DM candidate arises by imposing a $Z_{2}$ symmetry on a given complex singlet, $\phi_{2}$, in order to make it stable. After doing a study of the scalar potential and the gauge sector, we obtain all the DM dominant processes concerning the relic abundance and direct detection. Then, for a representative set of parameters, we found that a complex DM with mass around $200$ GeV, for example, is compatible with the current experimental constraints without resorting to resonances. However, additional compatible solutions with heavier masses can be found in vicinities of resonances. Finally, we address the issue of having a light CP-odd scalar in the model showing that it is safe concerning the Higgs and the $Z_{\mu}$ boson invisible decay widths, and also the energy loss in stars astrophysical constraints., Comment: 20 pages, 3 figures

In the framework of a 3-3-1 model with a minimal scalar sector we make a detailed study concerning the implementation of the PQ symmetry in order to solve the strong CP problem. For the original version of the model, with only two scalar triplets, we show that the entire Lagrangian is invariant under a PQ-like symmetry but no axion is produced since an U(1) subgroup remains unbroken. Although in this case the strong CP problem can still be solved, the solution is largely disfavored since three quark states are left massless to all orders in perturbation theory. The addition of a third scalar triplet removes the massless quark states but the resulting axion is visible. In order to become realistic the model must be extended to account for massive quarks and invisible axion. We show that the addition of a scalar singlet together with a Z_N discrete gauge symmetry can successfully accomplish these tasks and protect the axion field against quantum gravitational effects. We consider an electroweak model based on the gauge symmetry SU(2)_L X U(1)_Y' X U(1)_B-L which has right-handed neutrinos with different exotic B-L quantum numbers. Because of this particular feature we are able to write Yukawa terms, and right-handed neutrino mass terms, with scalar fields that can develop vacuum expectation values belonging to different energy scales. We make a detailed study of the scalar and the Yukawa neutrino sectors to show that this model is compatible with the observed solar and atmospheric neutrino mass scales and the tribimaximal mixing matrix.We also show that there are dark matter candidates if a Z_2 symmetry is included., Comment: 23 pages, 2 tables, version to be published in Phys. We study the radiative decay Z-->neutrino antineutrino gamma whitin an effective Lagrangian approach. Using the search for energetic single-photon events in the data collected by the L3 collaboration, we get direct bounds on the dimension-six and the dimension-eight operators associated with the tau-neutrino magnetic moment and the anomalous electromagnetic properties of the Z boson.
