Following the circular bioeconomy concept, this work studies the potential of an industrial wastepaper residue as an alternative raw material for dissolving pulp‐grade production. Prehydrolysis‐kraft cooking (PHK), elemental chlorine‐free (ECF) bleaching, and acid‐washing treatments were applied to achieve that aim. Considering the high lignin and hemicellulose content of the raw material, it was submitted to PHK pulping to enhance its cellulose content by removing those components. This processing resulted in a remarkable increase of 84 % in pulp Fock reactivity (from 45.6 % to 84.1 %). The dissolution extension and time in solvent systems LiCl/DMAc and NMMO/H2O were discussed regarding the pulp physicochemical properties. The dissolving pulp produced under this work showed great potential as raw material for textile applications, particularly highlighting the innovative process developed to improve its solubility. ANALYTICAL chemistry , *SULFATE pulping process , *ZETA potential , *FIBERS , *SURFACE passivation , *CELL anatomy - Abstract
Hardwood species have a complex cellular structure consisting of fibres, vessel elements and parenchyma cells with different chemical compositions. However, the presence of vessels with significant dimensions in their structure is a recurrent problem in the operation of industrial UWF paper printing. Since the 1980s, vessel picking and ink refusal are problems that paper professionals have tried to solve, but solutions for these have not yet been fully found. If vessels are concentrated in a stream, they can be pre-treated (e.g., by mechanical refining) and reincorporated into the pulp. Other strategies aim at vessel enzymatic and/or chemical passivation and sheet surface chemical treatment, altering the vessel adhesion to the fibre network. This requires vessel concentration at laboratorial level for proper chemical studies, such as FE-SEM, µ-XPS, TOF-SIMS and µFTIR. The main objective of our experimental study was to examine bleached kraft pulp E. globulus vessel and fibre composition. For this we performed EDX and µ-FTIR analysis on both fibre and vessel elements, and obtained the carbohydrate composition, the total acids content, the hexenuronic acids content and the zeta potential. - Abstract
The potential of broom biomass to produce oligo- and monosaccharides was investigated using mild sulfite pretreatment conditions followed by enzymatic hydrolysis. Both treatments were analyzed via response surface methodology using an experimental central composite rotatable design 24 + star, which explored the following variables: sulfuric acid charge (0% to 3%), sodium sulfite charge (0% to 4%, maximum temperature (150 °C to 190 °C), and time at maximum temperature (0 min to 30 min). Oligo- and monosaccharides in the pretreatment hydrolysates were determined using high performance liquid chromatography. The amount of total extracted xylose, mannose, and galactose ranged from 3.5% to 15.8% of the initial biomass, while the model estimated optimal reaction conditions enabled the extraction of practically all hemicellulose in the raw material. However, the mildest pretreatment reaction conditions, with low temperature and low sulfuric acid charges, provided a hydrolysate where a major part of the extracted polysaccharides remained in oligomer form, enabling their separation by filtration. The cellulose-rich solid residue was submitted to enzymatic hydrolysis using a Novozymes® enzymatic cocktail. The enzymatic hydrolysis was successful, but some polysaccharides remained in the solid residue, mainly composed of lignin. An enzymatic yield of 60% was attained with no added sulfite in the pretreatment at 190 °C, despite the confirmed positive role of sulfur content in the solid residues. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: As for many other Azorean Islands, the macroalgal flora of Terceira (belonging to the central group of the archipelago) is poorly known, the published information reflecting occasional collections of sporadic visitors to the island. In order to overcome this and contribute to improve the knowledge of Azorean macroalgal flora at both local and regional scales, a thorough investigation was conducted. Both collections and presence data recordings were undertaken at the littoral and sublittoral levels down to approximately 40 m around the island, covering a total area of approximately 49 km. This paper lists the taxonomic records and provides information on each species' ecology and occurrence on the Island's littoral. New information: A total of 418 specimens (including taxa identified only to genus level) belonging to 147 taxa of macroalgae, comprising 95 Rhodophyta, 33 Chlorophyta and 19 Ochrophyta (Phaeophyceae) are registered. Of these, 113 were identified to species level (73 Rhodophyta, 24 Chlorophyta and 16 Ochrophyta), encompassing 35 new records for the Island (27 Rhodophyta, 6 Chlorophyta and 2 Ochrophyta). Most species are native, including the Macaronesian endemisms Codium elisabethiae O.C.Schmidt, Millerella tinerfensis (Seoane-Camba) S.M.Boo & J.M.Rico and Phyllophora gelidioides P.Crouan & H.Crouan ex Karsakoff. MARINE algae ,MARINE biology ,DATA recorders & recording ,TAXONOMY - Abstract
Background: The oldest reference to marine life in Formigas Islets (oriental group of the Azores archipelago) goes back to the 16th century. Nevertheless, their macroalgal flora is poorly known, the published information mainly resulting from occasional collections of sporadic visitors. To overcome this and contribute to the knowledge of Azorean macroalgal flora at both local and regional scales, a thorough investigation was conducted in 1990 and 1991 under two expeditions promoted by the Marine Biology Research Group of the Department of Biology, University of the Azores. Collections and presence data recordings were undertaken at the littoral and sublittoral levels down to approximately 40 m, in an area of approximately 0.04 km. This paper lists the taxonomic records and provides information regarding each species' ecology and occurrence on the Islets' littoral. New information: A total of 320 specimens are registered (including taxa identified only at generic level) belonging to 90 taxa of macroalgae, from which 70 were diagnosed at species level. The confirmed species comprise 39 Rhodophyta, 12 Chlorophyta and 19 Ochrophyta (Phaeophyceae), distributed in 22 orders (13 Rhodophyta, 3 Chlorophyta and 6 Ochrophyta) and 37 families (24 Rhodophyta, 6 Chlorophyta and 7 Ochrophyta). Sixty-one species represent new records for the Islets, from which Botryocladia macaronesica Afonso-Carrillo, Sobrino, Tittley & Neto and Laurencia viridis Gil-Rodriguez & Haroun are Macaronesian endemisms. Most species are native to the Azores, but six have an uncertain origin and four are introduced (the Rhodophyta Asparagopsis armata Harvey; Laurencia dendroidea J.Agardh; Neoizziella divaricata (C.K.Tseng) S.-M.Lin, S.-Y.Yang & Huisman and the Ochrophyta Hydroclathrus tilesii (Endlicher) Santiañez & M.J.Wynne). The goal of this work was to study the relationship between chemical pulps suspensions rheology and the operating variables of refining for three different paper fibres, namely Pinus sylvestris, Eucalyptus globulus and Betula verrucosa. The intention was the establishment of the best conditions for the refining of chemical pulps for paper production. In order to obtain that, the hydromechanics of the beating was analysed for the three pulps. So, the normal and tangential forces were evaluated, the distance between rotor and stator was measured and the pulp apparent viscosity evolution during refining was calculated. The refining essays took place in a laboratory Valley refiner, and the studied variables were the charge on the roll, the rotor speed of rotation and the specific applied energy. A global relationship between the apparent viscosity and the shear rate was finally obtained.

A CLAREZA 2. A EXEQUIBILIDADE 3. Qual a estrutura essencial do tecido produtivo português? 2. 3. Primeira questão : Qual a estrutura essencial do tecido produtivo português? 1.

The article presents an experimental research on the effect of eucalyptus globulus wood density on papermaking potential. It states that understanding the morphological features of eucalyptus globulus in tree selection and genetic improvement programs can help papermakers keep off the negative impact on light scattering coefficient and refining energy usage. Eucalyptus globulus kraft pulp has been used for printing and writing papers because of its strength, bulk, opacity, and smoothness. Different charts reflecting provenance, temperature, climate conditions and density of the wood are shown. It also includes diagrams showing the correlation between paper density and wood basic density, and the results and conclusions obtained from the study.

Siemens IOT2050 ,Industry 4.0 ,Industrial internet of things (iIOT) - Abstract
This dissertation was developed in accordance with the present technological context, focusing on the Industry 4.0. The contemporary industrial wave is associated with the rise of diversity and availability of new technologies. With that said is possible to imply that industrial factory efficiency, threw the gathering of information in real time, is even more relevant in today´s society. First aproach to the this disseration was to research what composes a industry 4.0 network the difficulties it is faced with. One of many difficulties observed were the integration of many of physical systems to the cloud while mantaining a reak time feed. Also a system in the industry implies heavy loads in a network therefore there needs be added "lightweight" protocols to run in the system. Following these considerations the company "Körber Supply Chain PT" was contacted. With the idea proposed of using one of their machines a Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) was developed and tested, aiming that the company would be able access and process machine data in real time while plotting to a dashboard. In this work the processes that compose a network are discussed, with special detail two communication protocols: Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) and Advanced Message Queuing Protocol (AMQP). This mentioned protocols are subject to benchmarks made to prove performance and stability of the exposed problem. The parameters tested are the following: maximum message rate, adaptation too node increase and resources used. Upon analyses it was seen that MQTT would be the protocol used. Upon protocol selection follows the system design around the IOT2050 and a Siemens Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The IOT will function as a Gateway, where the data received by the PLC would be processed to a JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) and then sent to the cloud via MQTT. The IOT2050 will run Node-RED instance with the appropriate ow to accomodate these requirements. Performance test are then made within the context of this dissertation, that prove that the Gateway can keep up with the PLC clock cycles. They also prove that no message is lost between IOT and PLC, although Node-RED may have it´s limitations in generating messages on the 30 millisecond clock cycle. Therefore in the experimental scenario it can be concluded that the system will function in the proposed solution Finally the system was brought to Körber Supply Chain PT warehouse where it was tested on their machine, having the expected results. All variables were read and plotted in the dashboard developed, concluding that the system works in a real life application.
