Abstract For decades, the widespread application of thermoelectric generators has been plagued by two major limitations: heat stagnation in its legs, which limits power conversion efficiency, and inherent brittleness of its constituents, which accelerates thermoelectric generator failure. While notable progress has been made to overcome these quintessential flaws, the state-of-the-art suffers from an apparent mismatch between thermoelectric performance and mechanical toughness. Here, we demonstrate an approach to potentially enhance the power conversion efficiency while suppressing the brittle failure in thermoelectric materials. By harnessing the enhanced thermal impedance induced by the cellular architecture of microlattices with the exceptional strength and ductility (>50% compressive strain) derived from partial carbonization, we fabricate three-dimensional (3D) architected thermoelectric generators that exhibit a specific energy absorption of ~30 J g−1 and power conversion efficiency of ~10%. We hope our work will improve future thermoelectric generator fabrication design through additive manufacturing with excellent thermoelectric properties and mechanical robustness.

Abstract The terahertz frequency range is gaining popularity in security, stealth technology, and the future 6G network communication. For the control of severe terahertz electromagnetic interference (EMI) pollution, frequency‐selective stealth‐capable shielding materials are being explored to mask terahertz signals. For the realization of masking terahertz signals, the robustness, lightweight, and shape‐conformable materials with excellent terahertz EMI shielding/absorption are crucial. Here, the study reports the fabrication of 3D symmetric pyramidal architectural MXene composite films with frequency‐selective stealth performance characteristics via the facile drop casting method. With the high absorption capability of 2D MXene layers, the MXene composite films exhibit substantial terahertz stealth performance. 3D pyramidal microstructure design leads to frequency selective surface‐assisted reflection resonance in the frequency range of 0.6–1.1 THz. The MXene composite film demonstrates an outstanding maximum terahertz shielding effectiveness (SE) of up to 70.4 dB and a specific SE of 0.55 dB µm−1. These terahertz SE values exceed all of those for MX‐based shielding material designs reported in the literature. The investigation will open a new direction toward developing terahertz EMI shielding thin films with easy integration into any surface for stealth capabilities.

Thermoelectric‐based waste heat recovery requires efficient materials to replace conventional non‐eco‐friendly Te‐ and Pb‐based commercial devices. Ternary copper chalcogenide‐based famatinite (Cu3SbS4) compound is one of the practical substitutes for traditional thermoelectric materials. However, the pristine Cu3SbS4 inherits poor structural complexion, large thermal conductivity, and low power conversion efficiency. To develop high‐efficiency Cu3SbS4, InSb nanoinclusions are incorporated via high‐energy ball milling followed by the hot‐press densification method. Incorporating InSb nanoinclusions to lower thermal conductivity via phonon scattering while increasing the thermopower via a carrier energy filtering process. The thermoelectric performance (ZT) of ≈0.4 at 623 K is obtained in Cu3SbS4‐3 mol% InSb nanocomposite, which is ≈140% higher than pure Cu3SbS4. Both mechanical and thermal stability are improved by grain boundary hardening and dispersion strengthening. Thus, a facile nanostructured Cu3SbS4 with added InSb nanoinclusions is delivered as a highly efficient, eco‐friendly, structurally‐, thermally‐, and mechanically‐stable material for next‐generation thermoelectric generators.

Abstract Neuromorphic artificial intelligence systems are the future of ultrahigh performance computing clusters to overcome complex scientific and economical challenges. Despite their importance, the advancement in quantum neuromorphic systems is slow without specific device design. To elucidate biomimicking mammalian brain synapses, a new class of quantum topological neuristors (QTN) with ultralow energy consumption (pJ) and higher switching speed (µs) is introduced. Bioinspired neural network characteristics of QTNs are the effects of edge state transport and tunable energy gap in the quantum topological insulator (QTI) materials. With augmented device and QTI material design, top notch neuromorphic behavior with effective learning‐relearning‐forgetting stages is demonstrated. Critically, to emulate the real‐time neuromorphic efficiency, training of the QTNs is demonstrated with simple hand gesture game by interfacing them with artificial neural networks to perform decision‐making operations. Strategically, the QTNs prove the possession of incomparable potential to realize next‐gen neuromorphic computing for the development of intelligent machines and humanoids.

Graphene analog MXenes are the best options for interface engineering traditional thermoelectric materials. For the first time, a composite‐engineered TEG device composed of heavily doped bismuth and antimony telluride with incorporated Ti3C2Tx (MXene) nanoflakes is developed. Incorporated MXenes improved the electrical conductivity by carrier injection and reduces thermal conductivity by interfacial phonon scattering in both composites. The fabricated composite TEG device resulted in a maximum power of 1.14 mW and a power density of 6.1 mWcm−2. The fabricated composite TEG also demonstrates strong power generation stability and durability. Added MXenes improve the mechanical stability by employing a dispersion‐strengthening mechanism. Conclusively, the developed composite‐engineered TEG device is a facile and efficiency‐improving option for next‐generation bismuth telluride‐based commercial TEG devices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Mastitis has well-recognized harmful effects on dairy farm profitability. Furthermore, mastitis impairs the milk component synthesizing ability of secretary tissues. Various therapies are available for the treatment of clinical mastitis. Meloxicam exhibits preferential binding to Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) receptor and consequently generates fewer negative gastrointestinal side effects than nonspecific COX inhibitors such as flunixin meglumine and ketoprofen. Toward this end, research efforts directed at understanding the use of meloxicam alone and in combination with other antibiotics to improve milk quality and production. Therefore, in this review, we have highlighted the mechanism, biopharmaceutical challenges, and merits of meloxicam usage in dairy cattle mastitis. In addition, we also presented the integration of artificial neural network, in silico docking, and nanotechnology-driven topical drug delivery cargo as future opportunity for efficient delivery of meloxicam in the management of clinical mastitis.

Summary: Immunoengineering technologies harness the power of immune system modulators such as monoclonal antibodies, cytokines, and vaccines to treat myriad diseases. Immunoengineering innovations have showed great promise in various practices including oncology, infectious disease, autoimmune diseases, and transplantation. Despite the countless successes, the majority of immunoengineering products contain active moieties that are prone to instability. The current review aims to feature freeze-drying as a robust and scalable solution to the inherent stability challenges in immunoengineering products by preventing the active moiety from degradation. Furthermore, this review describes the stability issues related to immunoengineering products and the utility of the lyophilization process to preserve the integrity and efficacy of immunoengineering tools ranging from biologics to nanoparticle-based vaccines. The concept of the freeze-drying process is described highlighting the quality by design (QbD) for robust process optimization. Case studies of lyophilized immunoengineering technologies and relevant clinical studies using immunoengineering products are discussed.

Active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) with unfavorable physicochemical properties and stability present a significant challenge during their processing into final dosage forms. Cocrystallization of such APIs with suitable coformers is an efficient approach to mitigate the solubility and stability concerns. A considerable number of cocrystal-based products are currently being marketed and show an upward trend. However, to improve the API properties by cocrystallization, coformer selection plays a paramount role. Selection of suitable coformers not only improves the drug’s physicochemical properties but also improves the therapeutic effectiveness and reduces side effects. Numerous coformers have been used till date to prepare pharmaceutically acceptable cocrystals. The carboxylic acid-based coformers, such as fumaric acid, oxalic acid, succinic acid, and citric acid, are the most commonly used coformers in the currently marketed cocrystal-based products. Carboxylic acid-based coformers are capable of forming the hydrogen bond and contain smaller carbon chain with the APIs. This review summarizes the role of coformers in improving the physicochemical and pharmaceutical properties of APIs, and deeply explains the utility of afore-mentioned coformers in API cocrystal formation. The review concludes with a brief discussion on the patentability and regulatory issues related to pharmaceutical cocrystals.

Receptor-targeted drug delivery has been extensively explored for active targeting of therapeutic moiety in cancer treatment. In this review, we discuss the receptors that are overexpressed on tumor cells and have the potential to be targeted by nanocarrier systems for cancer treatment. We also highlight the different types of nanocarrier systems and targeting ligands that researchers have explored. Our discussion covers various therapeutic modalities, including small molecules, aptamers, peptides, antibodies, and cell-based targeting strategies, and focuses on clinical developments. Additionally, this article highlights the challenges that arise during the clinical translation of nanocarrier-based targeting strategies. It also provides future directions for improving research in the area of clinically translatable cancer-targeted therapy to improve treatment efficacy while minimizing toxicity. Skin permeation is an integral part of penetration of topical therapeutics. Zero order in addition to Higuchi permeation kinetic is usually preferred in topical drug delivery cargo. Penetration of therapeutic entities through epidermal barrier is a major challenge for scientific fraternity. Furthermore, penetration of therapeutic entities determines the transportation and ultimately therapeutic efficacy of topical dermal dosage forms. Apart from experimentation models, mathematical equations, in silico docking, molecular dynamics (MDs), and artificial neural network (Neural) techniques are being used to assess free energies and prediction of electrostatic attractions in order to predict the permeation phenomena of therapeutic entities. Therefore, in the present review, we have summarized the significance of kinetic equations, in silico docking, MDs, and ANN in assessing and predicting the penetration behavior of topical therapeutics through dermal dosage form. In addition, the role of chitosan biomacromolecule in modulating permeation of topical therapeutics in skin has also been illustrated using computational techniques.
