Risk for transmission of SARS-CoV-2 through allogeneic human tissue transplantation is unknown. To further evaluate the risk of virus transmission, tissues were obtained from deceased donors who had tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 RNA via nasopharyngeal swab. This study evaluated an array of human tissues recovered for transplantation, including bone, tendon, skin, fascia lata, vascular tissues, and heart valves. Tissue samples and plasma or serum samples, if available, were tested for viral RNA (vRNA) using a real time PCR system for the presence of virus RNA. All samples were tested in quadruplicate for both subgenomic (sgRNA) and genomic (gRNA) RNA encoding the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid gene. Amplification of a cellular housekeeping gene served as the positive control for every sample. A total of 47 tissue samples from 17 donors were tested for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. Four donors had plasma or serum available for paired testing. SARS-CoV-2 RNA was not detected from any tissue or plasma/serum sample tested. Based on these findings, risk of transmission through the transplantation of tissue types studied from SARS-CoV-2 infected donors is likely to be low.

This work outlines an efficient deep learning approach for analyzing vascular wall fractures using experimental data with openly accessible source codes (https://doi.org/10.25835/weuhha72) for reproduction. Vascular disease remains the primary cause of death globally to this day. Tissue damage in these vascular disorders is closely tied to how the diseases develop, which requires careful study. Therefore, the scientific community has dedicated significant efforts to capture the properties of vessel wall fractures. The symmetry-constrained compact tension (symconCT) test combined with digital image correlation (DIC) enabled the study of tissue fracture in various aorta specimens under different conditions. Main purpose of the experiments was to investigate the displacement and strain field ahead of the crack tip. These experimental data were to support the development and verification of computational models. The FEM model used the DIC information for the material parameters identification. Traditionally, the analysis of fracture processes in biological tissues involves extensive computational and experimental efforts due to the complex nature of tissue behavior under stress. These high costs have posed significant challenges, demanding efficient solutions to accelerate research progress and reduce embedded costs. Deep learning techniques have shown promise in overcoming these challenges by learning to indicate patterns and relationships between the input and label data. In this study, we integrate deep learning methodologies with the attention residual U-Net architecture to predict fracture responses in porcine aorta specimens, enhanced with a Monte Carlo dropout technique. By training the network on a sufficient amount of data, the model learns to capture the features influencing fracture progression. These parameterized datasets consist of pictures describing the evolution of tissue fracture path along with the DIC measurements. The integration of deep learning should not only enhance the predictive accuracy, but also significantly reduce the computational and experimental burden, thereby enabling a more efficient analysis of fracture response. Introduction. Intravascular papillary endothelial hyperplasia is an unusual reactive proliferation of endothelial cells around an organized thrombus, which occurs either in a dilated blood vessel, hematoma, or preexisting vascular lesion. These tumors rarely affect the central nervous system. Symptoms depend on the localization of the process itself. Localization in the central nervous system is limited to the intracranial space. Localization in the spinal canal is extremely rare, and only a few clinical cases have been described so far in the literature. Case report. A 67-year-old female patient was examined neurologically initially due to bilateral weakness of the lower extremities, accompanied by a feeling of pain and muscle tension, dominantly in the upper legs, more to the right. The complaints were present a year ago, and before that period, the patient was in a stable state of health. Due to a severe neurological deficit and the need for detailed exploration, the patient was hospitalized. A diagnosis was performed, which showed the localization of the pathological process in the thoracic 5-6 region of the spinal column. Decompression surgery was performed, and with the ex tempore findings metastasis was ruled out. Definitive pathohistological findings proved Masson's tumor. After the operation, the neurological weakness recovered. Conclusion. Masson's tumor, although rarely localized in spinal canal, is curable if it is correctly diagnosed and if an adequate therapeutic approach is applied. The initially presented symptoms may resemble numerous neurological or systemic diseases, which requires the clinician to be continuously aware of such rare pathological processes. The fracture of vascular tissue, and load-bearing soft tissue in general, is relevant to various biomechanical and clinical applications, from the study of traumatic injury and disease to the design of medical devices and the optimisation of patient treatment outcomes. The fundamental mechanisms associated with the inception and development of damage, leading to tissue failure, have yet to be wholly understood. We present the novel coupling of a microstructurally motivated continuum damage model that incorporates the time-dependent interfibrillar failure of the collagenous matrix with an embedded phenomenological representation of the fracture surface. Tissue separation is therefore accounted for through the integration of the cohesive crack concept within the partition of unity finite element method. A transversely isotropic cohesive potential per unit undeformed area is introduced that comprises a rate-dependent evolution of damage and accounts for mixed-mode failure. Importantly, a novel crack initialisation procedure is detailed that identifies the occurrence of localised deformation in the continuum material and the orientation of the inserted discontinuity. Proof of principle is demonstrated by the application of the computational framework to two representative numerical simulations, illustrating the robustness and versatility of the formulation. Summary: The occurrence of conducting vascular tissue in the pith (CVTP) of tracheophytes is noteworthy. Medullary bundles, one of the remarkable examples of CVTP, evolved multiple times across angiosperms, notably in the Caryophyllales. Yet, information on the occurrence of medullary bundles is fragmented, hampering our understanding of their structure–function relationships, and evolutionary implications.Using three plastid molecular markers (matK, rbcL, and rps16 intron), a phylogeny is constructed for 561 species of Caryophyllales, and anatomical data are assembled for 856 species across 40 families to investigate the diversity of medullary bundles, their function, evolution, and diversification dynamics. Additionally, correlated evolution between medullary bundles and successive cambia was tested.Medullary bundles are ancestrally absent in Caryophyllales and evolved in core and noncore families. They are structurally diverse (e.g. number, arrangement, and types of bundles) and functionally active throughout the plant's lifespan, providing increased hydraulic conductivity, especially in herbaceous plants. Acquisition of medullary bundles does not explain diversification rate heterogeneity but is correlated to a higher diversification rate.Disparate developmental pathways were found leading to rampant convergent evolution of CVTP in Caryophyllales. These findings indicate the diversification of medullary bundles and vascular tissues as another central theme for functional and comparative molecular studies in Caryophyllales. Objective: This study explores the 22-year evolution of Infantile Hemangiomas (IHs) treatment strategies at a single-center hospital, aiming to establish an individualized IHs management protocol. Methods: Retrospective review of IHs infants 2000-2022 at the Department of Plastic Surgery, Jiangxi Provincial Children's Hospital. Results: In our study of 27,513 IHs cases, 72.2% were female, with the median age at first hospital visit being 25 days. The majority of cases had localized and superficial lesions primarily on the head, face, and neck (67.5%). Ulceration rates fell from 21.1% to 12.6% with the introduction of propranolol. Management strategies have shifted over time, with the proportion of cases undergoing expectant management dropping from 32.9% to 12.4%. Since 2008, 26.1% of patients were treated with oral propranolol, largely replacing corticosteroids. Topical ß-blockers have been used in 12.1% of cases, leading to a reduction in local injection therapy from 20.8% to 13.2%. Laser therapy, introduced in 2016, has been used in 13.8% of cases, while surgical excision has dropped from 25.0% to 8.5% due to alternative treatment options. Combination therapy was used in 8.8% of cases post-2015, indicating a rising trend. Drawing from the evolution of IHs management strategies, an individualized protocol for the management of IHs was successfully established. Conclusion: Treatment for IHs has evolved over recent decades, with less invasive medical interventions increasingly replacing more invasive methods. Objectives: Pancreatic body and tail tumors account for one-third of all pancreatic tumors and can be diagnosed later than pancreatic head tumors because they present symptoms much later. When analyzed, most of them are generally unresectable because they are invaded into adjacent organs and vascular structures. We aimed to present our cases of vascular resection and anastomosis, where isolated tumor resection cannot be performed due to invasion of adjacent vascular structures. Methods: Between January 2019 and January 2021, the files of eight patients who had one or more vascular invasions due to the pancreatic body and tail tumor and therefore underwent vascular resection in addition to pancreatectomy were accessed. Results: Portal vein and hepatic artery repair were performed in all eight patients. Superior mesenteric artery anastomosis was performed in four patients, inferior vena cava repair was performed in two patients, and renal vein anastomosis was performed in two patients. Primary end-to-end repair, Dacron graft, ring-enforced polytetrafluoroethylene graft, and saphenous vein graft techniques were used during vascular interventions. Conclusions: We wanted to share our experience with the resection of vascular structures and anastomosis techniques. We believe that the indications of tumor surgery can be improved and redesigned by performing more routinely vascular resections and reconstructions in the future. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Tissue failure and damage are inherent parts of vascular diseases and tightly linked to clinical events. Additionally, experimental set-ups designed to study classical engineering materials are suboptimal in the exploration of vessel wall fracture properties. The classical Compact Tension (CT) test was augmented to enable stable fracture propagation, resulting in the symmetry-constraint Compact Tension (symconCT) test, a suitable set-up for fracture testing of vascular tissue. The test was combined with Digital Image Correlation (DIC) to study tissue fracture in 45 porcine aorta specimens. Test specimens were loaded in axial and circumferential directions in a physiological solution at 37 ° C. Loading the aortic vessel wall in the axial direction resulted in mode I tissue failure and a fracture path aligned with the circumferential vessel direction. Circumferential loading resulted in mode I-dominated failure with multiple deflections of the fracture path. The aorta ruptured at a principal Green-Lagrange strain of approximately 0.7, and strain rate peaks that develop ahead of the crack tip reached nearly 400 times the strain rate on average over the test specimen. It required approximately 70% more external work to fracture the aorta by circumferential than axial load; normalised with the fracture surface, similar energy levels are, however, observed. The symconCT test resulted in a stable fracture propagation, which, combined with DIC, provided a set-up for the in-depth analysis of vascular tissue failure. The high strain rates ahead of the crack tip indicate the significance of rate effects in the constitutive description of vascular tissue fracture. This paper represents a significant step forward in understanding the fracture properties of porcine aorta. Inspired by the Compact Tension test, we developed an ad hoc experimental protocol to investigate stable crack propagation in soft materials, providing new insights into the mechanical processes that lead to the rupture of vascular tissue. The set-up enables the assessment of strains and strain rates ahead of the crack tip, and our findings could improve the clinical risk assessment of vascular pathologies as well as optimise medical device design. Proper biobanking is essential for obtaining reliable data, particularly for next-generation sequencing approaches. Diseased vascular tissues, having extended atherosclerotic pathologies, represent a particular challenge due to low RNA quality. In order to address this issue, we isolated RNA from vascular samples collected in our Swiss Vascular Biobank (SVB); these included abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), peripheral arterial disease (PAD), healthy aorta (HA), and muscle samples. We used different methods, investigated various admission solutions, determined RNA integrity numbers (RINs), and performed expression analyses of housekeeping genes (ACTB, GAPDH), ribosomal genes (18S, 28S), and long non-coding RNAs (MALAT1, H19). Our results show that RINs from diseased vascular tissue are low (2–4). If the isolation of primary cells is intended, as in our SVB, a cryoprotective solution is a better option for tissue preservation than RNAlater. Because RNA degradation proceeds randomly, controls with similar RINs are recommended. Otherwise, the data might convey differences in RNA degradation rather than the expressions of the corresponding genes. Moreover, since the 18S and 28S genes in the diseased vascular samples were degraded and corresponded with the low RINs, we believe that DV200, which represents the total RNA's disintegration state, is a better decision-making aid in choosing samples for omics analyses. Over centuries of plant morphological research, biologists have enthusiastically explored how distinct vascular arrangements have diversified. These investigations have focused on the evolution of steles and secondary growth and examined the diversity of vascular tissues (xylem and phloem), including atypical developmental pathways generated through modifications to the typical development of ancestral ontogenies. A shared vernacular has evolved for communicating on the diversity of alternative ontogenies in seed plants. Botanists have traditionally used the term 'anomalous secondary growth' which was later renamed to 'cambial variants' by late Dr. Sherwin Carlquist (1988). However, the term 'cambial variants' can be vague in meaning since it is applied for developmental pathways that do not necessarily originate from cambial activity. Here, we review the 'cambial variants' concept and propose the term 'vascular variants' as a more inclusive overarching framework to interpret alternative vascular ontogenies in plants. In this framework, vascular variants are defined by their developmental origin (instead of anatomical patterns), allowing the classification of alternative vascular ontogenies into three categories: (i) procambial variants , (ii) cambial variants and (iii) ectopic cambia. Each category includes several anatomical patterns. Vascular variants, which represent broader developmental based groups, can be applied to both extant and fossil plants, and thereby offer a more adequate term from an evolutionary perspective. An overview of the developmental diversity and phylogenetic distribution of vascular variants across selected seed plants is provided. Simulation‐based studies of the cardiovascular structure such as aorta have become increasingly popular for many biomedical problems such as predictions of aneurysm rupture. A critical step in these simulations is the development of constitutive models that accurately describe the tissue's mechanical behavior. In this work, we present a new constitutive model, which explicitly accounts for the gradual recruitment of collagen fibers. The recruitment is considered using an effective stretch, which is a continuum‐scale kinematic variable measuring the uncrimped stretch of the tissue in an average sense. The strain energy of a fiber bundle is described by a quadratic function of the effective strain. Constitutive models formulated in this manner are applied to describe the responses of ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm and porcine thoracic aorta tissues. The heterogeneous properties of the ATAA tissue are extracted from bulge inflation test data, and then used in finite element analysis to simulate the inflation test. The descriptive and predictive capabilities are further assessed using planar testing data of porcine thoracic aortic tissues. It is found that the constitutive model can accurately describe the stress–strain relations. The purpose of the study is to describe the experience of a multidisciplinary team in a tertiary hospital regarding the management of Infantile Hemangiomas (IH). The method employed is a retrospective analysis of patients with IH followed in a tertiary pediatric hospital between January 2010 and May 2022. A total of 393 IH were diagnosed (56.7% female), with a median age of 5 months (interquartile range (IQR), 3–10). Imaging investigation was necessary for diagnosis and for exclusion of other IH in 9.2% and 14.3%, respectively. Focal (74.0%) and superficial (59.7%) lesions were more frequent as was facial location (35.9%). Pre-treatment ulceration or hemorrhage occurred in 6.6%. At follow-up, 87.4% regressed partially and 12.6% completely; 2.7% relapsed. Propranolol was started in 30.0% of cases for a median period of 9 months (IQR, 6–12), mainly due to esthetic concerns (41.9%). Side effects occurred in 8.3% (sleep disturbance in 5.1%). Only 1.7% were refractory and 5.9% had a rebound effect. Eleven patients were treated with topical timolol and 41 underwent surgery. Patients that were treated with propranolol had more risk factors (p = 0.016) and presented deeper lesions (p < 0.001) with a larger diameter (p < 0.001); total IH regression was less frequent (p < 0.001). Since 2020, twice-daily dosage was more frequently prescribed than three times daily (p = 0.007) and inpatient initiation of propranolol decreased (p = 0.750), without significant difference in the incidence of adverse reactions, duration of treatment, and lesion evolution. Conclusions: Our protocol proved to be safe and feasible in an outpatient setting and twice daily administration of propranolol was effective. The majority of IH showed at least partial regression. Early detection of high-risk IH is paramount and a multidisciplinary assessment by a specialized team is essential for adequate management. Introduction: Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma is characterized by a proliferation of multiple eccrine and vascular structures, generally presenting from birth, with growth proportional to the individual, as solitary or multiple plaques or nodules of variable color that mainly affect the distal extremities. The exact pathogenesis is unknown, but several theories have been proposed, including abnormal heterotypic dependency induction with resulting malformation of adnexal and mesenchymal elements. The diagnosis must be confirmed with a histopathological study, where a neoplasm in the middle or deep dermis with proliferation of eccrine glands and vascular structures will be found. This study examines the effect of vascular tissues on the mechanical properties of fibrovascular bundle (FVB) of Salaccca sumatrana Becc. fronds. Tensile strength and Young’s modulus have been analyzed for understanding the influence of anatomical and physical properties. The anatomical properties along the transversal direction of FVB were analyzed, including the total transverse area (TTA), vascular tissue area (VTA), and non-vascular tissue area (nVTA). The relationship between the VTA:TTA ratio and mechanical properties has been evaluated via light microscopy and analyzed using an Image-J software. The results show that there is a correlation between the VTA:TTA ratio and density of FVB. The diameter, density, and VTA:TTA ratio show a correlation with the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties degrade with an increase in the diameter and VTA:TTA ratio. In contrast, they are enhanced with an increase in the density of FVB. Based on the result, it was concluded that there were strong correlations of the density and ratio VTA:TTA with the mechanical properties. However, the diameter has a weak correlation with the mechanical properties.

Leaf morphoanatomy can provide useful information for the taxonomy of morphologically similar species or the recognition of infraspecific taxa. Here, we evaluated the taxonomic utility of leaf morphological and anatomical characters for the recognition of distinct morphologies currently placed under Oxalis polymorpha Mart. ex Zucc., a highly polymorphic species of Oxalis from the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We analyzed leaves of 13 specimens gathered from five populations throughout the species' geographic distribution. Leaf samples were analyzed under light and scanning electron microscopy. We observed differences in the leaf blade venation patterns, in the indumentum of petioles and leaf blades, in the pulvinar vascular tissue configuration, and in the midrib tissue organization. The variation in these characters allowed us to recognize four different morphotypes among these samples. These morphotypes are geographically disjunct and differ among each other in additional morphological features, such as leaf arrangement along the stem, leaflet shape, inflorescence position, petal color, and fruit shape. Oxalis polymorpha is a good candidate for investigating if phylogenetic relationships support recognition of each of its morphotypes at the species level. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Capillary hemangioma involving external auditory canal, middle ear and mastoid cavity is a very rare entity. Due to infrequent incidence but multiple overlapping clinical and radiological features amongst some common middle ear pathologies this benign vascular tumour often can be misdiagnosed. Histopathological report helps us to get definitive diagnosis. 40 years old female presented with diminished hearing and mass in right ear cavity for last 3 years. The otoscopic examination of right ear showed a pinkish polypoidal mass at the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane could not be visualized. Patient had a history of cortical mastoidectomy 2 years back for the similar problem. HRCT temporal bone revealed a single cavity with soft tissue density content in right mastoid cavity which was extending into right middle ear and external ear. Contrast Enhanced MRI showed a long polypoidal heterogeneously but strong enhancing T2 and STIR hyperintense lesion within mastoid antrum extending into middle ear cavity and external auditory canal forming an aural polyp. Excision of the mass was done by canal wall down mastoidectomy and also type IIIc tympanoplasty performed in same sitting. There is no recurrence noted after 6 months of follow up and hearing improvement noticed. Capillary haemangioma of mastoid antrum extending to middle ear and external auditory canal requires surgical excision as preferred treatment modality, pre-operative imaging guide us to choose the preferred surgical approaches. In an in vivo rat model of human exposure to cadmium (Cd; 5 and 50 mg/L, 6 months), whether the supplementation with zinc (Zn; 30 and 60 mg/L, increasing its daily intake by 79% and 151%, respectively) protects against the unfavourable impact of this xenobiotic on the vascular tissue of the abdominal aorta was investigated. The treatment with Cd led to oxidative stress and increased the concentrations of pro-inflammatory interleukin 1β (IL-1β), total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) and decreased the concentration of anti-inflammatory interleukin 10 (IL-10) in the vascular tissue. Cd decreased the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1), platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1 (PECAM-1), and L-selectin on the endothelial cells. The administration of Zn prevented most of the Cd-induced alterations or at least weakened them (except for the expression of adhesive molecules). In conclusion, Zn supplementation may protect from the toxic impact of Cd on the blood vessels and thus exert a beneficial influence on the cardiovascular system. The increase in the intake of Zn by 79% may be sufficient to provide this protection and the effect is related to the antioxidative, anti-inflammatory, and antiatherogenic properties of this essential element. Due to the extended generation cycle of trees, the breeding process for forest trees tends to be time-consuming. Genetic engineering has emerged as a viable approach to expedite the genetic breeding of forest trees. However, current genetic engineering techniques employed in forest trees often utilize continuous expression promoters such as CaMV 35S, which may result in unintended consequences by introducing genes into non-target tissues. Therefore, it is imperative to develop specific promoters for forest trees to facilitate targeted and precise design and breeding. In this study, we utilized single-cell RNA-Seq data and co-expression network analysis during wood formation to identify three vascular tissue-specific genes in poplar, PP2-A10 , PXY , and VNS07 , which are expressed in the phloem, cambium/expanding xylem, and mature xylem, respectively. Subsequently, we cloned the promoters of these three genes from '84K' poplar and constructed them into a vector containing the eyGFPuv visual selection marker, along with the 35S mini enhancer to drive GUS gene expression. Transgenic poplars expressing the Pro PagPP2-A10 ::GUS, Pro PagPXY ::GUS, and Pro PagVNS07 ::GUS constructs were obtained. To further elucidate the tissue specificity of these promoters, we employed qPCR, histochemical staining, and GUS enzyme activity. Our findings not only establish a solid foundation for the future utilization of these promoters to precisely express of specific functional genes in stems but also provide a novel perspective for the modular breeding of forest trees. ● Three vascular tissue specific genes were identified in poplar. ● eyGFPuv visual marker to observe easier and faster for select transgenic plants. ● Develop vascular-specific promoters to facilitate precise breeding for trees. Proper biobanking is essential for obtaining reliable data, particularly for next-generation sequencing approaches. Diseased vascular tissues, having extended atherosclerotic pathologies, represent a particular challenge due to low RNA quality. In order to address this issue, we isolated RNA from vascular samples collected in our Swiss Vascular Biobank (SVB); these included abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), peripheral arterial disease (PAD), healthy aorta (HA), and muscle samples. We used different methods, investigated various admission solutions, determined RNA integrity numbers (RINs), and performed expression analyses of housekeeping genes (ACTB, GAPDH), ribosomal genes (18S, 28S), and long non-coding RNAs (MALAT1, H19). Our results show that RINs from diseased vascular tissue are low (2–4). If the isolation of primary cells is intended, as in our SVB, a cryoprotective solution is a better option for tissue preservation than RNAlater. Because RNA degradation proceeds randomly, controls with similar RINs are recommended. Otherwise, the data might convey differences in RNA degradation rather than the expressions of the corresponding genes. Moreover, since the 18S and 28S genes in the diseased vascular samples were degraded and corresponded with the low RINs, we believe that DV200, which represents the total RNA’s disintegration state, is a better decision-making aid in choosing samples for omics analyses.

miR166s play an important role in plant tissue differentiation. However, the functions of miR166s in the differentiation of vascular tissue in bamboo have not yet been elucidated. Here, we showed that five miR166s are overexpressed (tags per million reads > 2,000) in underground shoot samples of wild-type (WT) Moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis) and a thick-walled variant (P. edulis "Pachyloen") throughout the developmental process. Potential targets of these miR166s include some genes encoding homeodomain-leucine zipper (HD-ZIP) transcription factors and protein kinases. Cleavage sites for miR166s were identified in seven PeHD-ZIP homologs and a protein kinase gene via degradome sequencing (p < 0.05). Dual-luciferase and transient expression assays confirmed the binding of miR166s to PeHOXs. Fluorescence in situ hybridization revealed that miR166s were localized to the xylem of the leaf, root, and internode of 2-month-old pot seedlings of WT Moso bamboo. Overall, these findings reveal that miR166s are regulators of vascular tissue differentiation in bamboo. The miR166s identified in our study provide novel targets for bamboo breeding. Summary: The origin of land plants and their descendants was marked by the evolution of key adaptations to life in terrestrial environments such as roots, vascular tissue and stomata. Though these innovations are well characterized, the evolution of the genetic toolkit underlying their development and function is poorly understood.We analysed molecular data from 532 species to investigate the evolutionary origin and diversification of genes involved in the development and regulation of these adaptations.We show that novel genes in the first land plants led to the single origin of stomata, but the stomatal closure of seed plants resulted from later gene expansions. By contrast, the major mechanism leading to the origin of vascular tissue was cooption of genes that emerged in the first land plants, enabling continuous water transport throughout the ancestral vascular plant. In turn, new key genes in the ancestors of plants with true leaves and seed plants led to the emergence of roots and lateral roots.The analysis highlights the different modes of evolution that enabled plants to conquer land, suggesting that gene expansion and cooption are the most common mechanisms of biological innovation in plant evolutionary history. Aspartic proteases (APs) constitute a large family in plants and are widely involved in diverse biological processes, like chloroplast metabolism, biotic and abiotic stress responses, and reproductive development. In this study, we focused on overall analysis of the APs genes in tobacco. Our analysis included the phylogeny and cis-elements in the cell wall-associated promoters of these genes. To characterize the expression patterns of APs genes in stem vascular development. The tissue expression analysis showed that NtAED3-like was preferentially expressed in the differentiating xylem and phloem cells of the vascular system. Based on histochemical staining analysis showed that the NtAED3-like gene was specifically expressed in stem vascular tissue, root vascular tissue, and petiole vascular tissue. The TdT-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) assay illustrated a delayed progression of programmed cell death (PCD) within the xylem of the ko-ntaed3a-like mutant, relative to the wild type. The mutant ko-ntaed3a-like exhibited a phenotype of thinning stem circumference and changed in xylem structure and lignin content. In addition, the two-dimension heteronuclear single quantum coherent nuclear magnetic resonance (2D-HSQC) analysis of three milled wood lignins (MWLs) showed that the content of β-O-4 connection in ko-ntaed3a-like decreased slightly compared with wild type. We report the case of a 63-year-old female who presented with a painless swelling on the interdental papilla of 23 and 24 with a history of recurrences. The lesion was excised by wide surgical excision. This article presents a unique case of a vascular tumor that had clinically mimicked a reactive lesion and with detailed history, thorough clinical examination had provided clues to a vascular entity namely hemangiopericytoma which was confirmed by histological diagnosis. Oral lesions, particularly occurring in gingiva, most often appear clinically benign or innocuous thus necessitating the need for careful examination with investigations to render a diagnosis.

Prompt and accurate diagnosis of infantile hemangiomas is essential to prevent potential complications. This can be difficult due to high rates of misdiagnosis and poor access to pediatric dermatologists. In this study, we trained an artificial intelligence algorithm to diagnose infantile hemangiomas based on clinical images. Background: The transplantation of tissues is a developing practice. Improving cryopreservation techniques and emerging of new immunobiology concepts have let to establish the transplant of vascular allografts as a suitable alternative. This study aims to expose the Catalan experience in vascular allograft transplantation by disclosing basic data about clinical outcomes. Materials and Methods: Data about vascular allografts transplants was gathered from the Registry of Vascular and Valvular Transplantation of Catalonia, Spain. Basic data regards to clinical outcomes are presented. Kaplan-Meier and statistical analysis were performed using SPSS Ver. 20 for Mac (Chicago USA). Results: One hundred and seventy-one adults were transplanted. The overall 5-year SR was 51.5%. Survival (SR) differs with the territory revascularized, ranging from 37.5% to 55.6% at five years. Major adverse limb event-free rate ranges from 13.3% to 50.1% according to the area treated. The Primary patency rate is higher in the supra-inguinal revascularization and lowers when a distal vessel target is treated. Conclusion: Only one guideline-supported indication is currently done for allografts, and our results match with this indication. Our results are extensive and susceptible to analysis to address future projects, which are required to reconsider new or specific indications. We present a framework for considering the gradual recruitment of collagen fibers in hyperelastic constitutive modeling. An effective stretch, which is a response variable representing the true stretch at the tissue-scale, is introduced. Properties of the effective stretch are discussed in detail. The effective stretch and strain invariants derived from it are used in selected hyperelastic constitutive models to describe the tissue response. This construction is investigated in conjunction with Holzapfel-Gasser-Ogden family strain energy functions. The ensuing models are validated against a large body of uniaxial and bi-axial stress–strain response data from human aortic aneurysm tissues. Both the descriptive and the predictive capabilities are examined. The former is evaluated by the quality of constitutive fitting, and the latter is assessed using finite element simulation. The models significantly improve the quality of fitting, and reproduce the experiment displacement, stress, and strain distributions with high fidelity in the finite element simulation. Rapeseed (Brassica napus) is an important oilseed crop worldwide. Plant vascular tissues are responsible for material transport and provide mechanical support. The lateral roots (LRs) absorb sufficient water and nutrients. The genetic basis of vascular tissues and LRs development in rapeseed remains unknown. This study characterized an EMS-mutagenized rapeseed mutant, T16, which showed dwarf stature, reduced LRs, and leaf wilting. Scanning electron microscopy observations showed that the internode-cell shortened. Observations of the tissue sections revealed defects in the development of vascular bundles in the stems and petioles. Genetic analysis revealed that the phenotypes of T16 were controlled by a single semi-dominant nuclear gene. Map-based cloning and genetic complementarity confirmed that BnaA03.IAA13 is the functional gene, a G-to-A mutation in second exon changed the glycine at the 79th position to glutamic acid, disrupting the conserved degron motif VGWPP. Transcriptome analysis in roots and stems showed that auxin and cytokinin signaling pathways were disordered in T16. Evolutionary analysis showed that AUXIN/INDOLE-3-ACETIC ACID was conserved during plant evolution. The heterozygote of T16 significantly reduced the plant height while maintaining other agronomic traits. Autophagy is a catabolic and recycling pathway that maintains cellular homeostasis under normal growth and stress conditions. Two major types of autophagy, microautophagy and macroautophagy, have been described in plants. During macroautophagy, cellular content is engulfed by a double-membrane vesicle called autophagosome. This vesicle fuses its outer membrane with the tonoplast and releases the content into the vacuole for degradation. During certain developmental processes, autophagy is enhanced by induction of several autophagy-related genes (ATG genes). Autophagy in crop development has been studied in relation to leaf senescence, seed and reproductive development, and vascular formation. However, its role in fruit ripening has only been partially addressed. Strawberry is an important berry crop, representative of non-climacteric fruit. We have analyzed the occurrence of autophagy in developing and ripening fruits of the cultivated strawberry. Our data show that most ATG genes are conserved in the genome of the cultivated strawberry Fragaria x ananassa and they are differentially expressed along the ripening of the fruit receptacle. ATG8-lipidation analysis proves the presence of two autophagic waves during ripening. In addition, we have confirmed the presence of autophagy at the cellular level by the identification of autophagy-related structures at different stages of the strawberry ripening. Finally, we show that blocking autophagy either biochemically or genetically dramatically affects strawberry growth and ripening. Neolamarckia cadamba is one of the most important fast-growing trees for wood production in South China, and its secondary growth depends on the development process of vascular tissue cells including formative cells. In order to obtain the vascular tissue accurately and high quality RNA of N. cadamba, we presented an optimal method to provide high-quality paraffin section for vascular tissues, in which carnoy/acetone was used as fixative(acetone concentration was 10%-50%)and 100% n-Butanol was used as the dehydrating and infiltration agent, followed by gradient infiltration paraffin, embedding, sectioning and dewaxing. Meanwhile, LMD parameters were set with magnification between 10× and 20×, power between 42 and 44, aperture between 4 and 13 and speed between 16 and 25 for acquisition of vascular cells in N. cadamba. Utilizing this protocol, high quality of RNAs were extracted, with RIN(RNA integrity number)value of 5.0, 6.6 and 7.9 in cambium cells, phloem cells and xylem cells, respectively. These RNAs can be used for subsequent RNA-seq analysis. Accordingly, the vascular tissue cells capture system by LMD was established in N. cadamba, which would be of value for revealing the regulatory mechanism of vascular tissue division and differentiation in N. cadamba, and provide a reference for capturing vascular cell in other forest tree species. Hemangiomas and vascular malformations are vascular anomalies easily confused. Hemangioma is often misused to describe vascular malformations. This study aims to group clinical characteristics, which can contribute to identify and classify these lesions, in order to choose an appropriate treatment. This study was based on a literature review, organizing the information according to the type of anomaly, its history and its clinical characteristics. We investigated changes in plant morphology, anatomy and physiology in a commonly occurring weed, Euphorbia helioscopia L. due to exposure to post‐emergence herbicides. Weed plants were sprayed with one of the following herbicides: pyrimidinyl sulphonylharnstoffe (PS), tribenuron‐methyl (TM), fluroxypyr‐methyl tribenuron‐methyl (FMTM) and bromoxynil (Br). The PS treatment significantly decreased plant height, promoted initiation of side branches and induced a prostrate habit. A specific response of root anatomy to PS and Br treatments was the high proportion of storage parenchyma. The Br‐treated plants showed thickest roots with a significantly large storage parenchyma, not only in the central portion of roots, but also in the cortical parenchyma outside the vascular tissue. A high proportion of xylem in the central portion of roots in the TM or FMTM‐treated plants provides a strong survival response in E. helioscopia. Disintegration of stem cortical parenchyma is the most prominent response of E. helioscopia when treated with a herbicide like PS or FMTM. Survival against these herbicides relates to a complete ring of vascular bundles and intact cortical parenchyma outside the vascular tissue. Increased leaf thickness was recorded in most of the cases except in the FMTM‐treated plants. The PS‐treated plants showed midrib thickness with two distinct vascular bundles. The cortical region, however, was found to be damaged by tissue collapse forming a large lysigenous aerenchyma. Euphorbia helioscopia had altered morphology, anatomy and physiology in response to herbicide application, which changed its growth in the field. To achieve control of this weed species, alternative strategies or higher doses of herbicide should be applied. Abstract Papillary intralymphatic angioendothelioma (Dabska tumor) is a rarely metastasizing lymphatic vascular neoplasm that usually affects children and young adults. The majority of these cases occur in soft tissues of extremities, and to date less than 40 cases have been described. Despite the generally indolent evolution, can be locally invasive with the potential to metastasize. We describe a case of a young woman presenting with a plantar lesion, for 9 months and histological diagnosis of Dabska tumor. This neoplasm should be considered in the differential diagnosis of vascular dermatoses, allowing early diagnosis and treatment. Long-term follow-up should be performed.

AimTo evaluate the efficacy of intravitreal bevacizumab in the treatment of retinal vasoproliferative tumours (VPT).Materials and methodsSix eyes of 6 patients with VPT who received intravitreal bevacizumab were retrospectively reviewed. All patients received between one and three injections of intravitreal bevacizumab depending upon response to treatment. Best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), tumour size, and presence of co-pathology or sequelae were noted pre- and postoperatively and then analysed. Subsequent retreatments were performed in patients with recurrent or persistent VPT according to the ophthalmologist's discretion. Retreatments included photodynamic therapy with verteporfin, ruthenium-106 plaque brachytherapy, or endoresection of tumour.ResultsThe mean follow-up duration was 33.3 months (range 10-66 months). At baseline, the mean logMAR BCVA was 1.45 (Snellen equivalent of 6/165); range 0.10-1.90 (6/8-CF). Following bevacizumab treatment the mean logMAR BCVA was 0.98 (Snellen equivalent of 6/57); range 0.5-1.9 (Snellen equivalent of 6/19 to CF). Therefore, there was no statistically significant change in visual acuity. The mean tumour thickness reduced from 2.4 to 2.1 mm following treatment with bevacizumab. Introduction. One of the most specific areas in practical dentistry is the use of various biological matrix structures that serve as a backbone for osteogenic cells and a framework for vascular components that provide the gradual formation of a new bone tissue in the area of defect formed by the resultant enucleation. Objective. To establish the efficiency of using fibrous matrix and polymeric membrane in the process of restoration of defects of the bone structure after the procedure of the enucleation on the lower jaw and to analyze the results with those that were registered when performing bone defects with collagen sponge. Materials and methods. The study was conducted in the Department of Surgical Dentistry of Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University, Ukraine, during 6 months, between September 10, 2018-March 10, 2019. The selected sample of patients randomly were divided into two groups: 1st group – the study group, which included 24 persons (filling the main bone defect in this group was carried out using the material developed by the authors, of fibrous matrix and polymer membranes); 2nd group – the comparison group, in which 25 people were included (the completion of the main part of the bone defect in this group was carried out using CollaTape Collage Spot (Integra Life Sciences). Results. The average index of reduction of the geometric radiological defect size in the research group was 89.4±2.5%, while in the comparison group, this indicator was equal to 90.2± 1.6%. The largest reduction in both the research group and the comparison group was noted in the horizontal (87.8-93.6%) and in the diagonal (88.4-91.5%) components of the defect. Six months after the intervention, the index of reduction increased and reached 1.74 (72.50%). Conclusions. The absence of registered statistical differences between the above described criteria for assessing surgical treatment of patients in both groups suggests that the use of fibrous matrix and polymeric membranes does not provoke significant violations in the process of physiological bone regeneration after the removal of cyst.

Introduction. The laryngeal hemangioma in children is a benign vascular neoplasm but it could become malignant after localization. Case outline. After two weeks of corticosteroid treatment in a 15-month-old boy, there were no desired results. This case report is a small contribution to the research of targeted Propranolol treatment in infantile laryngeal hemangioma and the role of Epinephrine in the initial treatment in life-threatening conditions. Conclusion. When laryngeal hemangioma has “bad” localization and any surgical treatment is denied in spite of the vital risk, the choices of treatment are epinephrine (as the first choice) and propranolol.

Polyphasic myodegeneration potentially causes severe physiological and metabolic disorders in the breast muscle of fast-growing broiler chickens. To date, the etiology of recent muscle myopathies, such as the white striping (WS) phenotype, is still unknown. White striping–affected breast meats compromise the water holding capacity and predispose muscle to poor vascular tone, leading to the deterioration of meat qualities. Herein, this review article provides insight on the complexities around chicken breast myopathies: (i) the etiologies of WS occurrence in chicken; (ii) the metabolic changes that occur in WS defect in pectoralis major; and (iii) the interactions between breast muscle physiology and vascular tone. It also addressed the effects of nutritional supplements on muscle myopathies on chicken breast meats. Moreover, the review explored breast muscle biology focusing on the early preparation of satellite and vascular cells in fast-growth chicken breeds. Transcriptomics and histological analyses revealed poor vascularity in breast muscle of fast growth chickens. Thus, we suggest in ovo feeding of nutrients promoting vascularization and satellite cells replenishment as a potential strategy to enhance endothelium-derived nitric oxide availability to promote vascularization in the pectoralis major muscle region.

Background: The modulus and resonant frequency of cancer cells and extracellular matrix are increased in both basal cell and squamous cell carcinomas, and in addition, the collagen stiffness is increased. The organization of the extracellular matrix surrounding cancer cells is clearly different than the extracellular matrix that is seen in normal skin. Materials and Methods: We have used vibrational optical coherence tomography (VOCT) to measure the resonant frequency and stiffness of collagen, vascular, and reorganized fibrous extracellular matrix components. Measurements of vessels and fibrotic collagen content made on basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) are compared to similar measurements made on normal skin from different anatomical locations. Results: Lesions with basal cell carcinomas exhibit characteristic resonant frequencies and moduli of reorganized extracellular matrix characteristic of fibrotic tissue. Cancerous lesions are characterized by dermal collagen (100 Hz), vascular (150 Hz), and fibrotic peaks (200‐230 Hz). The fibrotic peak is not found in areas of normal skin. Conclusions: Based on this pilot study, it is hypothesized inflammation may promote precancerous lesion formation in the surrounding extracellular matrix. The most common intraocular vascular tumours are choroidal haemangiomas, vasoproliferative tumours, and retinal haemangioblastomas. Rarer conditions include cavernous retinal angioma and arteriovenous malformations. Options for ablating the tumour include photodynamic therapy, argon laser photocoagulation, trans-scleral diathermy, cryotherapy, anti-angiogenic agents, plaque radiotherapy, and proton beam radiotherapy. Secondary effects are common and include retinal exudates, macular oedema, epiretinal membranes, retinal fibrosis, as well as serous and tractional retinal detachment, which are treated using standard methods (ie, intravitreal anti-angiogenic agents or steroids as well as vitreoretinal procedures, such as epiretinal membrane peeling and release of retinal traction). The detection, diagnosis, and monitoring of vascular tumours and their complications have improved considerably thanks to advances in imaging. These include spectral domain and enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT and EDI-OCT, respectively), wide-angle photography and angiography as well as wide-angle fundus autofluorescence. Such novel imaging has provided new diagnostic clues and has profoundly influenced therapeutic strategies so that vascular tumours and secondary effects are now treated concurrently instead of sequentially, enhancing any opportunities for conserving vision and the eye. In this review, we describe how SD-OCT, EDI-OCT, autofluorescence, wide-angle photography and wide-angle angiography have facilitated the evaluation of eyes with the more common vascular tumours, that is, choroidal haemangioma, retinal vasoproliferative tumours, and retinal haemangioblastoma.

Objective: This study explores the 22-year evolution of Infantile Hemangiomas (IHs) treatment strategies at a single-center hospital, aiming to establish an individualized IHs management protocol. Methods: Retrospective review of IHs infants 2000-2022 at the Department of Plastic Surgery, Jiangxi Provincial Children's Hospital. Results: In our study of 27,513 IHs cases, 72.2% were female, with the median age at first hospital visit being 25 days. The majority of cases had localized and superficial lesions primarily on the head, face, and neck (67.5%). Ulceration rates fell from 21.1% to 12.6% with the introduction of propranolol. Management strategies have shifted over time, with the proportion of cases undergoing expectant management dropping from 32.9% to 12.4%. Since 2008, 26.1% of patients were treated with oral propranolol, largely replacing corticosteroids. Topical β -blockers have been used in 12.1% of cases, leading to a reduction in local injection therapy from 20.8% to 13.2%. Laser therapy, introduced in 2016, has been used in 13.8% of cases, while surgical excision has dropped from 25.0% to 8.5% due to alternative treatment options. Combination therapy was used in 8.8% of cases post-2015, indicating a rising trend. Drawing from the evolution of IHs management strategies, an individualized protocol for the management of IHs was successfully established. Conclusion: Treatment for IHs has evolved over recent decades, with less invasive medical interventions increasingly replacing more invasive methods.
