The robotic assembly has become pivotal in manufacturing, demanding precise pose detection of assembly components for efficient operations. This paper presents a contact-based pose detection method tailored for digital twin-based optimisation for the robotic assembly process, focusing on small component assembly challenges. The proposed technique achieves robust pose estimation by leveraging a strain gauge load cell-based calibration method. Experimental validation demonstrates close alignment between induced and measured errors, showcasing the efficacy of the method in mitigating assembly challenges. Despite minor deviations, the approach outperforms traditional vision-based methods, promising enhanced efficiency in robotic assembly tasks. Further refinement could bolster accuracy, fostering advanced robotic assembly capabilities.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to describe the clinicopathologic and immunohistochemical characteristics of 14 cases of central odontogenic fibroma (COF), and the ultrastructural features of 2 of them. STUDY DESIGN: Collaborative retrospective study based on the records of 4 oral pathology diagnostic services in Latin America based on the current World Health Organization classification. RESULTS: There were 7 male and 7 female patients (mean age 31.8 years). Eight tumors occurred in the maxilla and 6 in the mandible. Thirteen cases were epithelium-rich and 1 epithelium-poor COF. Three were classified as hybrid COF with giant cell lesion. Mean size of the hybrid lesions were larger than pure COF (3.8 vs. 2.4 cm). Odontogenic epithelial islands were immunoreactive for cytokeratin (CK) AE1/AE3, CK5, CK14, CK19, and 34BE12 and negative for CK1 and CK18. Langerhans cells positive for S-100 and CD1a were found within the epithelial islands in 6/6 tested cases. CD68 was expressed in the giant cells of the hybrid lesions and in a few mononuclear cells of 2 cases of COF. Ki-67 index was <1% in all cases. In 6 tumors (42.8%), there were small globular eosinophilic droplets within the epithelial islands, which were positive for collagen type IV, and 9/13 cases (69.2%) were focally positive for smooth muscle actin. In addition to fibroblasts, myofibroblastic differentiation was found in the 2 cases studied ultrastructurally. CONCLUSIONS: Immunohistochemistry was useful to confirm the presence of epithelium and to exclude other central fibrous tumors. COF also contains a variable number of mast cells, Langerhans cells, and myofibroblasts, and further studies are needed to better understand the participation of these cells in COF histogenesis. Oral Diseases (2011) , 258-264 To analyse and compare the expression of Palate, Lung, and Nasal Epithelium Clone (PLUNC) proteins in salivary glands from patients with and without AIDS (control group) using autopsy material. We analysed the expression of PLUNCs using immunohistochemistry in parotid ( n = 45), submandibular ( n = 47) and sublingual gland ( n = 37) samples of AIDS patients [30 with normal histology, 21 with mycobacteriosis, 14 with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection, 30 with chronic non-specific sialadenitis, and 30 HIV-negative controls. In situ hybridization (ISH) for SPLUNC 2 in the HIV-negative group was performed. SPLUNC 1 expression was detected in the mucous acini of submandibular and sublingual glands, and SPLUNC 2 were seen in the serous cells. LPLUNC 1 expression was only positive in the salivary ducts. There was a higher expression of SPLUNC 2 in AIDS patients with CMV infection and mycobacteriosis when compared with all other groups. The intensity of staining for SPLUNC 2 was greater around the lesions than the peripheral ones. ISH for SPLUNC 2 showed perinuclear positivity in the serous cells in all HIV-negative cases. SPLUNC 1 and LPLUNC 1 proteins were similarly expressed in the salivary glands of AIDS patients and non-HIV patients. More than 50% of cerebrovascular accidents are caused by atherosclerotic disease at the carotid artery.1 Carotid artery stenosis may be detected by the standard method of duplex ultrasound (DUS), while calcifications can be detected by panoramic radiographs.2-4 Panoramic radiographs may be used as a selective tool, reducing health costs by identifying individuals at risk of stroke or myocardial infarction.5-7 The present study sought a correlation between laboratory findings/behaviors and panoramic radiographs and DUS images, thus determining the value of the panoramic radiographs' findings. Objective: Secretory leukocyte proteinase inhibitor (SLPI) is an endogenous proteinase inhibitor present in mucosal secretions. It also displays antimicrobial activity including anti-human immunodeficiency virus activity. This protease inhibitor is also expressed in submandibular glands (SMG), but there are few data on its expression in AIDS patients with infectious conditions. Methods: We analyzed the expression of SLPI using immunohistochemistry in submandibular gland samples of 36 AIDS patients [10 with normal histology, 10 with chronic nonspecific sialadenitis, eight with mycobacteriosis, and eight with cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection] and 10 HIV-negative controls. The proteinase inhibitor was quantified using image analysis and expressed as % of positively stained area. Results: There was a higher expression of SLPI in AIDS patients with CMV infection (% of stained area, mean ± SD: 37.37 ± 14.45) when compared with all other groups ( P = 0.009). There were no significant differences between control subjects (22.70 ± 9.42%) and AIDS patients without histologic alterations (18.10 ± 7.58%), with chronic nonspecific sialadenitis (17.13 ± 5.36%), or mycobacterial infection (21.09 ± 4.66%). Conclusion: Cytomegalovirus infection increases SLPI expression in the SMG of AIDS patients. Our results reveal new insights into the pathogenic association between HIV and CMV in AIDS patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work was to study cytokeratin (Ck) expression in initial radiation-induced oral mucositis. STUDY DESIGN: Eleven cases of initial radiomucositis of the buccal mucosa and 9 normal specimens were immunostained for Ck 1, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 14, 16, 18, and 19 by immunoperoxidase method. RESULTS: Expression of Ck 1, 6, 10, and 16 was stronger in mucositis than in normal mucosa. Ck 7, 8, and 18 were negative for both control and study groups. Ck 5, 13, and 14 were positive for both groups, nevertheless suprabasal staining for Ck 14 was more evident in mucositis than in the control group. Sporadic staining for Ck 19 was observed in 1 case of mucositis and in 2 controls. CONCLUSIONS: Increased Ck expression can be associated with the reactive proliferation of the epithelium and increasing resistance of the oral mucosa during the initial phases of radiotherapy. Pleomorphic lipoma is an uncommon variant of lipoma, which microscopically may resemble a liposarcoma. However, it is a slow-growing and well-circumscribed lesion with a benign behavior. Therefore, recognizing this entity is extremely important to perform the proper treatment. Sebaceous adenoma (SA) is a rare solitary tumour with a predilection for the forehead and scalp. In the English literature, less than 10 cases of SA have been described in the oral cavity. The objective of this study was to examine the clinicopathologic features and evaluate the expression of epidermal growth factor and its receptor, estrogen receptor and androgen receptor in SA and in its differential diagnoses including sebaceous gland hyperplasia (SGH) and Fordyce's granules (FG). Additionally, we analysed the proliferative potential of sebaceous cells from SA, SGH and FG by measuring proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression and quantification of argyrophilic nuclear organizer regions (AgNORs). The SA showed many clinicopathologic similarities to cases previously reported including the biphasic population of cells, in the periphery of lobules undifferentiated basaloid cells whereas the central area was formed by mature sebocytes. SA was composed of 198 lobules of sebaceous cells, whereas SGH and FG showed a mean of 21 ± 7.81 and 5.84 ± 2.83, respectively. The AgNOR and PCNA indices were similar in SA, SGH and FG. These data suggest that lobule counts may be used as additional criteria in distinguishing SA of the oral cavity from other intraoral sebaceous gland lesions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

PURPOSE: To assess the possibility of preserving the lower pole of the spleen, supplied by the inferior lobar vessels and segmental vessels, or by vessels of the gastrosplenic ligament, in subtotal splenectomy; to study the viability and function of the lower pole of the spleen. METHODS: Thirty-six male Wistar rats were used in this study. Said animals weighed 273-390 g ( 355.2 ? 30.5 g ), and were randomly distributed into three groups. Group 1 comprised ten animals which were submitted to exploratory laparotomy with spleen manipulation (sham operation). Group 2 comprised 16 animals which were submitted to total splenectomy. Group 3 comprised ten animals which were submitted to subtotal splenectomy, preserving the lower pole of the spleen. Blood was collected from all animals before and 90 days after surgery to measure the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. The animals were sacrificed 90 days after surgery. Spleens and remaining spleens were removed for macroscopic and microscopic examination. RESULTS: Surgery was performed with no complications in all groups. Six animals died in group 2. Spleens of groups 1 and 2, and lower poles of group 3 were macroscopically viable. Apparent white pulp hyperplasia was observed in group 1. In group 3, slight inflammation and capsular fibrosis were observed at the incision site, as well as diffuse hemosiderosis in the red pulp. Average mass of remaining spleen was 35.84% ? 4.31%. No significant difference was observed between preoperative and late postoperative lipid levels in groups 1 and 3 (p > 0.05). Late postoperative lipid levels significantly increased in group 2. CONCLUSIONS: Preservation of the lower pole of the spleen (supplied by gastrosplenic vessels or inferior lobar vessels and segmental vessels) was possible with subtotal splenectomy. The lower pole was macroscopically and microscopically viable in all cases. Subtotal splenectomy preserving the lower pole prevented changes in lipid levels, which were observed in rats submitted to total splenectomy. Plasma lipid levels in rats submitted to subtotal splenectomy were similar to those observed in sham operated rats.

El propósito de este trabajo fue construir una librería genómica a partir de la cepa nativa Clostridium IBUN 22A, utilizando como vector de clonación el plásmido pBluescrip® IIKS+/- y su expresión en Escherichia coli. La detec-ción de ocho clones recombinantes con actividad enzimática se realizó empleando el tamizaje enzimático con tres sustratos: celobiosa, carboximetilcelulosa y celulosa pulverizada (nativa). Los halos de hidrólisis fueron detectados por la técnica de rojo congo. Se realizaron análisis por restricción de tres de los plásmidos recombinantes represen-tativos de cada una de las actividades hidrolíticas, sobre los tres sustratos mencionados. Los tamaños de los insertos clonados fueron aproximadamente 1.600,13.000 y 11.000 pb para pBS68, pBS25 y pBS57, respectivamente. Mayores estudios de expresión proteica y caracterización enzimática permitirán definir la especificidad y otros parámetros característicos de estas enzimas. Así mismo, la secuencia de los insertos hará posible analizar y definir con más detalle la potencialidad biotecnología de nuestra cepa hacia la producción de solventes mediante el empleo de sustratos celulósicos como fuente de carbono para la fermentación acetona, butanol, etanol (ABE).
