In this paper, we propose an extension of the cabling methods to bijective non-degenerate solutions of the Yang--Baxter equation, with applications to indecomposable and simple solutions. We address two main challenges in extending this technique to the non-involutive case. First, we establish that the indecomposability of a solution can be assessed through its injectivization or the associated biquandle. Second, we show that the canonical embedding into the structure monoid resolves issues related to the pullback of subsolutions. Our results not only extend the theorems of Lebed, Ramirez and Vendramin to non-involutive solutions but also provide numerical criteria for indecomposability., Comment: 12 pages

A complete classification of all finite bijective set-theoretic solutions $(S,s)$ to the Pentagon Equation is obtained. First, it is shown that every such a solution determines a semigroup structure on the set $S$ that is the direct product $E\times G$ of a semigroup of left zeros $E$ and a group $G$. Next, we prove that this leads to a decomposition of the set $S$ as a Cartesian product $X\times A\times G$, for some sets $X,A$ and to a discovery of a hidden group structure on $A$. Then an unexpected structure of a matched product of groups $A,G$ is found such that the solution $(S,s)$ can be explicitly described as a lift of a solution determined on the set $A\times G$ by this matched product of groups. Conversely, every matched product of groups leads to a family of solutions arising in this way. Moreover, a simple criterion for the isomorphism of two solutions is obtained. The results provide a far reaching extension of the results of Colazzo, Jespers and Kubat, dealing with the special case of the so called involutive solutions. We present a characterization of simple finite non-degenerate bijective set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation in terms of the algebraic structure of the associated permutation skew left braces. We introduce two common divisor graphs associated with a finite skew brace, based on its $\lambda$- and $\theta$-orbits. We prove that the number of connected components is at most two and the diameter of a connected component is at most four. Furthermore, we investigate their relationship with isoclinism. Similarly to its group theoretic inspiration, the skew braces with a graph with two disconnected vertices are very restricted and are determined. Algebras related to finite bijective or idempotent left non-degenerate solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang--Baxter equation have been intensively studied. These are the monoid algebras $K[M(X,r)]$ and $K[A(X,r)]$, over a field $K$, of its structure monoid $M(X,r)$ and left derived structure monoid $A(X,r)$, which have quadratic defining relations. In this paper we deal with arbitrary finite left non-degenerate solutions $(X,r)$. Via divisibility by generators, i.e., the elements of $X$, we construct an ideal chain in $M(X,r)$ that has very strong algebraic structural properties on its Rees factors. This allows to obtain characterizations of when the algebras $K[M(X,r)]$ and $K[A(X,r)]$ are left or right Noetherian. Intricate relationships between ring-theoretical and homological properties of these algebras and properties of the solution $(X,r)$ are proven, which extends known results on bijective non-degenerate solutions. Furthermore, we describe the cancellative congruences of $A(X,r)$ and $M(X,r)$ as well as the prime spectrum of $K[A(X,r)]$. This then leads to an explicit formula for the Gelfand--Kirillov dimension of $K[M(X,r)]$ in terms of the number of orbits in $X$ under actions of certain finite monoids derived from $(X,r)$. It is also shown that the former coincides with the classical Krull dimension of $K[M(X,r)]$ in case the algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ is left or right Noetherian. Finally, we obtain the first structural results for a class of finite degenerate solutions $(X,r)$ of the form $r(x,y)=(\lambda_x(y),\rho(y))$ by showing that structure algebras of such solution are always right Noetherian., Comment: 35 pages

It is proven that finite idempotent left non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions $(X,r)$ of the Yang-Baxter equation on a set $X$ are determined by a left simple semigroup structure on $X$ (in particular, a finite union of isomorphic copies of a group) and some maps $q$ and $\varphi_x$ on $X$, for $x\in X$. This structure turns out to be a group precisely when the associated structure monoid is cancellative and all the maps $\varphi_x$ are equal to an automorphism of this group. Equivalently, the structure algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ is right Noetherian, or in characteristic zero it has to be semiprime. The structure algebra always is a left Noetherian representable algebra of Gelfand--Kirillov dimension one. To prove these results it is shown that the structure semigroup $S(X,r)$ has a decomposition in finitely many cancellative semigroups $S_u$ indexed by the diagonal, each $S_u$ has a group of quotients $G_u$ that is finite-by-(infinite cyclic) and the union of these groups carries the structure of a left simple semigroup. We present stack graphs, an extension of Visser et al.'s scope graphs framework. Stack graphs power Precise Code Navigation at GitHub, allowing users to navigate name binding references both within and across repositories. Like scope graphs, stack graphs encode the name binding information about a program in a graph structure, in which paths represent valid name bindings. Resolving a reference to its definition is then implemented with a simple path-finding search. GitHub hosts millions of repositories, containing petabytes of total code, implemented in hundreds of different programming languages, and receiving thousands of pushes per minute. To support this scale, we ensure that the graph construction and path-finding judgments are file-incremental: for each source file, we create an isolated subgraph without any knowledge of, or visibility into, any other file in the program. This lets us eliminate the storage and compute costs of reanalyzing file versions that we have already seen. Since most commits change a small fraction of the files in a repository, this greatly amortizes the operational costs of indexing large, frequently changed repositories over time. To handle type-directed name lookups (which require "pausing" the current lookup to resolve another name), our name resolution algorithm maintains a stack of the currently paused (but still pending) lookups. Stack graphs can be constructed via a purely syntactic analysis of the program's source code, using a new declarative graph construction language. We study relations between different notions of nilpotency in the context of skew braces and applications to the structure of solutions to the Yang-Baxter equation. In particular, we consider annihilator nilpotent skew braces, an important class that turns out to be a brace-theoretic analog to the class of nilpotent groups. To determine and analyze arbitrary left non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation (not necessarily bijective), we introduce an associative algebraic structure, called a YB-semitruss, that forms a subclass of the category of semitrusses as introduced by Brzezi\'nski. Fundamental examples of YB-semitrusses are structure monoids of left non-degenerate set-theoretic solutions and (skew) left braces. Gateva-Ivanova and Van den Bergh introduced structure monoids and showed their importance (as well as that of the structure algebra) for studying involutive non-degenerate solutions. Skew left braces were introduced by Guarnieri, Vendramin and Rump to deal with bijective non-degenerate solutions. Hence, YB-semitrusses also yield a unified treatment of these different algebraic structures. The algebraic structure of YB-semitrusses is investigated, and as a consequence, it is proven, for example, that any finite left non-degenerate set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation is right non-degenerate if and only if it is bijective. Furthermore, it is shown that some finite left non-degenerate solutions can be reduced to non-degenerate solutions of smaller size. The structure algebra of a finitely generated YB-semitruss is an algebra defined by homogeneous quadratic relations. We prove that it often is a left Noetherian algebra of finite Gelfand-Kirillov dimension that satisfies a polynomial identity, but in general, it is not right Noetherian., Comment: Postprint version, 41 pages

Given a finite bijective non-degenerate set-theoretic solution $(X,r)$ of the Yang--Baxter equation we characterize when its structure monoid $M(X,r)$ is Malcev nilpotent. Applying this characterization to solutions coming from racks, we rediscover some results obtained recently by Lebed and Mortier, and by Lebed and Vendramin on the description of finite abelian racks and quandles. We also investigate bijective non-degenerate multipermutation (not necessarily finite) solutions $(X,r)$ and show, for example, that this property is equivalent to the solution associated to the structure monoid $M(X,r)$ (respectively structure group $G(X,r)$) being a multipermuation solution and that $G=G(X,r)$ is solvable of derived length not exceeding the multipermutation level of $(X,r)$ enlarged by one, generalizing results of Gateva-Ivanova and Cameron obtained in the involutive case. Moreover, we also prove that if $X$ is finite and $G=G(X,r)$ is nilpotent, then the torsion part of the group $G$ is finite, it coincides with the commutator subgroup $[G,G]_+$ of the additive structure of the skew left brace $G$ and $G/[G,G]_+$ is a trivial left brace., Comment: 36 pages, some typos corrected, to appear in Journal of Pure and Applied Algebra, postprint version

We define the radical and weight of a skew left brace and provide some basic properties of these notions. In particular, we obtain a Wedderburn type decomposition for Artinian skew left braces. Furthermore, we prove analogues of a theorem of Wiegold, a theorem of Schur and its converse in the context of skew left braces. Finally, we apply these results to detect torsion in the structure group of a finite bijective non-degenerate set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation., Comment: 15 pages

The distributive laws of ring theory are fundamental equalities in algebra. However, recently in the study of the Yang-Baxter equation, many algebraic structures with alternative "distributive" laws were defined. In an effort to study these "left distributive" laws and the interaction they entail on the algebraic structures, Brzezi\'nski introduced skew left trusses and left semi-trusses. In particular the class of left semi-trusses is very wide, since it contains all rings, associative algebras and distributive lattices. In this paper, we investigate the subclass of left semi-trusses that behave like the algebraic structures that came up in the study of the Yang-Baxter equation. We study the interaction of the operations and what this interaction entails on their respective semigroups. In particular, we prove that in the finite case the additive structure is a completely regular semigroup. Secondly, we apply our results on a particular instance of a left semi-truss called an almost left semi-brace, introduced by Miccoli to study its algebraic structure. In particular, we show that one can associate a left semi-brace to any almost left semi-brace. We introduce strong left ideals of skew braces and prove that they produce non-trivial decomposition of set-theoretic solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. We study factorization of skew left braces through strong left ideals and we prove analogs of It\^{o}'s theorem in the context of skew left braces. As a corollary, we obtain applications to the retractability problem of involutive non-degenerate solutions of the Yang-Baxter equation. For a finite involutive non-degenerate solution $(X,r)$ of the Yang--Baxter equation it is known that the structure monoid $M(X,r)$ is a monoid of I-type, and the structure algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ over a field $K$ share many properties with commutative polynomial algebras, in particular, it is a Noetherian PI-domain that has finite Gelfand--Kirillov dimension. In this paper we deal with arbitrary finite (left) non-degenerate solutions. Although the structure of both the monoid $M(X,r)$ and the algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ is much more complicated than in the involutive case, we provide some deep insights. In this general context, using a realization of Lebed and Vendramin of $M(X,r)$ as a regular submonoid in the semidirect product $A(X,r)\rtimes\mathrm{Sym}(X)$, where $A(X,r)$ is the structure monoid of the rack solution associated to $(X,r)$, we prove that $K[M(X,r)]$ is a module finite normal extension of a commutative affine subalgebra. In particular, $K[M(X,r)]$ is a Noetherian PI-algebra of finite Gelfand--Kirillov dimension bounded by $|X|$. We also characterize, in ring-theoretical terms of $K[M(X,r)]$, when $(X,r)$ is an involutive solution. This characterization provides, in particular, a positive answer to the Gateva-Ivanova conjecture concerning cancellativity of $M(X,r)$. These results allow us to control the prime spectrum of the algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ and to describe the Jacobson radical and prime radical of $K[M(X,r)]$. Finally, we give a matrix-type representation of the algebra $K[M(X,r)]/P$ for each prime ideal $P$ of $K[M(X,r)]$. As a consequence, we show that if $K[M(X,r)]$ is semiprime then there exist finitely many finitely generated abelian-by-finite groups, $G_1,\dotsc,G_m$, each being the group of quotients of a cancellative subsemigroup of $M(X,r)$ such that the algebra $K[M(X,r)]$ embeds into $\mathrm{M}_{v_1}(K[G_1])\times\dotsb\times \mathrm{M}_{v_m}(K[G_m])$., Comment: A subtle mistake in the proof of Theorem 4.4 has been corrected (will appear in a corrigendum et addendum, TAMS). Let $r:X^{2}\rightarrow X^{2}$ be a set-theoretic solution of the Yang-Baxter equation on a finite set $X$. It was proven by Gateva-Ivanova and Van den Bergh that if $r$ is non-degenerate and involutive then the algebra $K\langle x \in X \mid xy =uv \mbox{ if } r(x,y)=(u,v)\rangle$ shares many properties with commutative polynomial algebras in finitely many variables; in particular this algebra is Noetherian, satisfies a polynomial identity and has Gelfand-Kirillov dimension a positive integer. Lebed and Vendramin recently extended this result to arbitrary non-degenerate bijective solutions. Such solutions are naturally associated to finite skew left braces. In this paper we will prove an analogue result for arbitrary solutions $r_B$ that are associated to a left semi-brace $B$; such solutions can be degenerate or can even be idempotent. In order to do so we first describe such semi-braces and we prove some decompositions results extending results of Catino, Colazzo, and Stefanelli., Comment: 29 pages

While ray tracing has become increasingly common and path tracing is well understood by now, a major challenge lies in crafting an easy-to-use and efficient system implementing these technologies. Following a purely physically-based paradigm while still allowing for artistic workflows, the Iray light transport simulation and rendering system allows for rendering complex scenes by the push of a button and thus makes accurate light transport simulation widely available. In this document we discuss the challenges and implementation choices that follow from our primary design decisions, demonstrating that such a rendering system can be made a practical, scalable, and efficient real-world application that has been adopted by various companies across many fields and is in use by many industry professionals today.

In this paper, we show that all Coleman automorphisms of a finite group with self-central minimal non-trivial characteristic subgroup are inner; therefore the normalizer property holds for these groups. Using our methods we show that the holomorph and wreath product of finite simple groups, among others, have no non-inner Coleman automorphisms. As a further application of our theorems, we provide partial answers to questions raised by M. Hertweck and W. Kimmerle. Furthermore, we characterize the Coleman automorphisms of extensions of a finite nilpotent group by a cyclic $p$-group. Lastly, we note that class-preserving automorphisms of 2-power order of some nilpotent-by-nilpotent groups are inner, extending a result by J. Hai and J. Ge., Comment: 18 pages

The early stages of clot formation in blood vessels involve platelets adhesion-aggregation. Although these mechanisms have been extensively studied, gaps in their understanding still persist. We have performed detailed in-vitro experiments and developed a numerical model to better describe and understand this phenomenon. Unlike previous studies, we took into account both activated and non-activated platelets, as well as the 3D nature of the aggregation process. Our investigation reveals that blood albumin is a major parameter limiting platelet adhesion and aggregation. Our results also show that the well accepted Zydney-Colton shear-induced diffusivity is much too low to explain the observed deposition rate. Simulations are in very good agreement with observations and provide quantitative estimates of the adhesion and aggregation rates that are hard to measure experimentally.

Using new and published photometric observations of mu1 Sco (HR 6247), spanning 70 years, a period of 1.4462700(5) days was determined. It was found that the epoch of primary minimum suggested by Shobbrook at HJD 2449534.178 requires an adjustment to HJD 2449534.17700(9) to align all the available photometric datasets. Using the resulting combined-data light-curve, radial velocities derived from IUE data and the modelling software PHOEBE, a new system solution for this binary was obtained. The Ward-Takahashi identities are central to the gauge invariance of the photoproduction amplitude. Here we demonstrate that unitarity and in particular the inclusion of both the $\pi N$ and $\gamma\pi N$ thresholds on equal footing yields a photoproduction amplitude that satisfies both two-body unitarity and the generalized Ward-Takahashi identities. A covariant, unitary and gauge invariant theory for pion photoproduction on a single nucleon is presented. To achieve gauge invariance at the operator level one needs to include both the $\pi N$ and $\gamma\pi N$ thresholds. The final amplitude can be written in terms of a distorted wave in the final $\pi N$ channel provided one includes additional diagrams to the standard Born term in which the photon is coupled to the final state pion and nucleon.
