Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Everyday Memory Questionnaire- Revised (EMQ-R-A) in a sample of Lebanese adults. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in August 2023. A diverse sample of 483 Lebanese adults aged 18 to 60 years from all Lebanese governorates was recruited. Participants completed an Arabic-language questionnaire comprising three sections: socio-demographic characteristics, health-related inquiries, the EMQ-R-A and the Arabic version of the Prospective and Retrospective Memory Questionnaire (PRMQ). Results: The study's findings indicated that the EMQ-R-A displayed strong internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha = 0.925). Convergent validity was supported by a significant correlation with PRMQ. Test-retest results demonstrated strong reliability with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.925. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed a three-factor model including retrieval related factors, attentional tracking related factors, and other factors. The factors labeled "Retrieval" and "Attentional Tracking" elucidate aspects of memory retrieval system efficacy and attention-related challenges. Higher EMQ-R-A scores were found to be associated with the female gender, lower attention, physical inactivity, lower educational levels, and higher number of comorbid disorders. Conclusion: The EMQ-R-A exhibits good validity and reliability. The identified factors associated with memory decline underscore the importance of addressing lifestyle factors, such as promoting physical activity, better educational attainment, and addressing comorbid health conditions, to potentially mitigate memory challenges. Background: Heart failure demands self-care skills and behaviors that can be negatively impacted by a low level of perceived control (PC), a belief about having the necessary resources to deal with negative events. Having valid and reliable instruments to measure PC is important to support interventions that improve self-care and related outcomes. The Control Attitudes Scale-Revised (CAS-R)was developed in the United States to measure PC in cardiac conditions. In Brazil, there are no instruments available to measure this construct. Objective: The aims of this study were to translate and adapt the CAS-R to the Brazilian population and to assess the content validity of the adapted version. Methods: The CAS-R was translated, back-translated, and assessed by an expert committee for linguistic equivalences. An agreement > 80%was considered adequate. Content validity (clarity, theoretical relevance, and practical pertinence) wasassessedbyboth an expertprofessionalpanel (n=6-8) and a panel of patientswith heart failure (n = 40). A content validity coefficient > 0.70was considered acceptable. Results: The translations to Brazilian Portuguesewere considered consistentwith the original CAS-R. In the third round of linguistic equivalence assessment, all items achieved acceptable agreement, except for 2 items. After modifications to the instrument to achieve adequate equivalences, the adapted version had a final content validity coefficient of 0.93. Most patients were able to understand the instrument. Conclusions: The CAS-R-Brazilian version is equivalent to the original CAS-R and has satisfactory evidence of content validity. Background: The number of validated questionnaires that assess the level of breastfeeding competence of primary care professionals who attend lactating mothers is limited. Research Aim: To validate the CAPA (Competència en l'Atenció Primària sobre Alletament [Breastfeeding Competence in Primary Care]) questionnaire into Spanish in collaboration with professionals from the primary care services of the Comunidad de Madrid (Spain). Methods: In this multicentric study, four bilingual healthcare professionals translated the CAPA questionnaire into Spanish and back-translated it into Catalan. The cross-cultural adaptation included a discussion by an expert committee, a review by a philologist, and a pilot study that involved 13 healthcare residents. We randomly selected professionals from specialties involved in breastfeeding. The re-test was conducted 3 weeks later, aiming to avoid changes in the studied population. We performed a factor analysis to identify underlying constructs and hypothesis-testing to assess the validity of the questionnaire and estimated the Cronbach Alpha and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) to assess its reliability. Results: A total of 198 professionals participated by responding to the questionnaire. Factorial analysis showed that the questionnaire was unidimensional. Hypothesis testing showed that, of all the considered professional groups, midwives achieved the highest mean score (M = 131.7, SD = 10.9, p < 0.001). Amongst the other professionals, only 26.5% achieved a basic level of breastfeeding competence. The Cronbach alpha and ICC were 0.852 (95% CI [0.821, 0.880]) and 0.890 (95% CI [0.800. 0.937]). Conclusions: The Spanish CAPA questionnaire is a valid and reliable tool for assessing breastfeeding basic competence among primary care professional groups who attend lactating mothers. Background: Nursing quality indicators (NQIs) are essential for evaluating and managing care, yet few validated NQIs exist for emergency nursing. The dynamic nature of this field demands specific, validated indicators. Purpose: The purpose of this review was to identify NQIs in adult emergency nursing using Donabedian's quality categories (structure, process, outcome) and explore their validation. Methods: A scoping review was conducted including articles from 2010 to February 2023, using the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature and Medline (Ovid) databases. Results: Among 936 screened articles, 18 were included, identifying 85 NQIs across structure (n = 14), process (n = 45), and outcome (n = 26) in emergency nursing. However, the validation of these NQIs was limited. Conclusions: NQIs evaluate emergency nursing quality, primarily in process assessment. Purpose Methods Findings Conclusion Implications for Nursing Practice To review and validate the elements of the nursing diagnosis (ND) “Insufficient breast milk production” (00216) based on the literature and expert consensus, and to construct operational definitions (ODs) for its defining characteristics (DCs).It is a methodological study carried out in two phases. In the first phase, a scoping review was conducted, and in the second, a committee of experts reviewed the elements’ content. Items with a Content Validity Index ≥0.8 were validated for relevance, clarity, and precision. Discussions were conducted until a consensus was reached on all items and criteria evaluated. The Ethics Committee approved the study.The final scoping review sample consisted of 61 articles, and 19 experts evaluated the content of the ND. All DCs were revised. Three at‐risk populations, three associated conditions, and one related factor were added. Three elements had their category changed, and an element was deleted. Experts also validated ODs developed for all DCs.“Insufficient breast milk production (00216)” was validated by experts. This study improved the ND through literature and expert consensus. New elements were added, and existing ones were revised.This study improves this ND based on scientific evidence and clinical expertise and potentially improves nurses’ diagnostic accuracy through ODs. ABSTRACT Aims Background Design Methods Results Conclusions Relevance to Practice To test the clinical validity of clinical indicators and causal relationships of aetiological factors of the new nursing diagnosis of inadequate health self‐efficacy in people with hypertension.The diagnosis of inadequate health self‐efficacy has both theoretical and content validity. However, a clinical validation study is needed to establish an appropriate framework for distinguishing individuals who manifest this unique human response.The study adopts a cross‐sectional clinical validation approach, adhering strictly to the STROBE guidelines throughout its design and implementation.Naturalistic sampling was used to identify 302 adults diagnosed with hypertension. Their data were subjected to latent class analysis, which facilitated the identification of a comprehensive set of clinical indicators that demonstrated better diagnostic accuracy and established posterior probabilities to guide the inference of inadequate health self‐efficacy. In addition, logistic regression analysis was used to assess the magnitude of the impact of aetiological factors.The prevalence of inadequate health self‐efficacy was 76.61%. Among the 13 indicators examined, seven demonstrated notable sensitivity: ‘risk‐prone health behaviour’, ‘failure to take action that prevents health problems’, ‘inadequate self‐control’, ‘avoidance behaviours’, ‘negative health self‐perception’, ‘inadequate health‐related quality of life’ and ‘difficulty feeling good about adopting a healthy lifestyle’. Additionally, two indicators showed high specificity: ‘difficulty feeling good about adopting a healthy lifestyle’ and ‘inadequate adherence to treatment regimen’. Notably, 15 aetiological factors were identified as significantly associated with an increased risk of inadequate health self‐efficacy.A clinical framework consisting of eight clinical indicators and 15 aetiological factors was developed to characterise inadequate health self‐efficacy in individuals with hypertension.Clinical validation provides insight into the precision of clinical indicators and the magnitude of the effect of putative causal elements, thereby facilitating identification and tailored intervention for individuals with hypertension and inadequate health self‐efficacy. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the construct validity of the Brazilian version of the Functional Activities Questionnaire (FAQ-BR), which measures the functional capacity of the elderly, based on an informant's report. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was performed with 525 non-hospitalized elderly and their respective informants. Pearson's and Kendall's tau correlation coefficients with a statistical significance level of < 0.05 were used to evaluate the correlation between the FAQ-BR score and sociodemographic and health condition variables. RESULTS: All correlations were compatible with the underlying theory, with a statistical significance (p value < 0.001): age (r = 0.522); income (r = - 0.148); years of schooling (r = - 0.191); living alone (r = - 0.175); self-rated health (r = - 0.149); chronic self-reported diseases (r = 0.125) and; cognitive impairment (r = 0.350). CONCLUSION: Although the FAQ-BR demonstrates construct validity, future complementary studies should be done to further measure elderly people's functional capacity, based on an informant's report.

Objective Methods Results Conclusion Testicular torsion is an uncommon but time‐critical condition in EDs. If the diagnosis is missed or delayed, there are significant medicolegal and patient fertility implications. Scoring tools are advocated for use in children but have limited validation in adults. The aim of the present study was to explore the predictive accuracy of the testicular torsion scoring tools, Testicular Workup for Ischemia and Suspected Torsion (TWIST) and Boettcher Alert Score (BALS), in adult patients with a final ED diagnosis of torsion.All patients with an ED working diagnosis of testicular torsion were identified retrospectively. Data collected from digital medical records included demographics, processes of care and clinical information. The outcome of interest was the predictive performance of the scores for a confirmed diagnosis of testicular torsion as adjudicated by an urologist or a surgeon.Fifty‐four patients had complete clinical data, of whom 13 had confirmed torsion. The TWIST score had a high area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUROC) of 0.89 (95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.78–0.999) with a score of 6–7 corresponding to a positive predictive value (PPV) of 80% (95% CI = 38–96%). The BAL score had an AUROC of 0.79 (95% CI = 0.69–0.92). Background: Vestibular Activities and Participation Measure (VAP) subscales assess the effect of vestibular disorders on activity and participation. This study aimed to perform the cross-cultural adaptation and assess the validity, internal consistency, reliability, and measurement error of the Brazilian version of VAP subscales. Methods: The cross-cultural adaptation followed the translation, synthesis, back-translation, review by a committee of experts, and pretesting phases. Structural validity was assessed using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), while Spearman's correlation between VAP subscales and the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) was used to assess construct validity. Cronbach's alpha measured internal consistency. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) assessed intra- and inter-rater reliability, and measurement error was calculated by using the standard error of measurement (SEM) and minimal detectable change (MDC). Results: Additional information was included in the Brazilian version of the Vestibular Activities and Participation measure (VAP-BR) after approval by one of the developers of the instrument to improve the understanding among individuals. One factor was found in the EFA for each subscale with 50% explained variance. Regarding CFA, the subscales 1 (S1) and 2 (S2) presented, respectively, adequate model fit indices (ie, comparative fit index of 0.99 and 0.97, and standardized root mean square residual of 0.04 for both subscales), but a very low factor load in item 6 of S1 (0.08). Chronbach's alpha was 0.80 (S1) and 0.82 (S2). For intra-rater assessment, the S1 and S2 presented an ICC of 0.87 and 0.90, SEM of 0.01 and 1.16, and MDC of 0.39 and 0.46, respectively. When assessed by 2 different raters, SEM values were 1.03 and 1.53, and MDC values were 2.85 and 4.23 for S1 and S2, respectively; both subscales showed an ICC of 0.92. Correlations between DHI and VAP subscales presented coefficients above 0.57. Conclusion: The Brazilian version of VAP subscales presents good measurement properties and may assist health professionals in identifying activity limitations and participation restrictions in individuals with vestibular disorders. Objective: This study aimed to develop the Turkish version of the Orofacial Esthetic Scale (OES‐Tr) and to evaluate its psychometric properties. Materials and Methods: The OES‐Tr questionnaire was obtained from the English version of OES by translation and back‐translation. The current version's psychometric properties were evaluated in a cohort of 221 participants (81 dental students, 70 dentists with 1–10 years of clinical experience, and 70 dentists with 11–20 years of clinical experience). To assess the test–retest reliability, the OES was administered twice to all participants, with a time interval of 2–4 weeks. The reliability and validity of the questionnaire were assessed. Also, in validity studies, OES total scores were correlated with Oral Health Impact Profile‐Turkish Version (OHIP‐Tr) total scores. Results: The Cronbach's alpha value obtained from seven items was 0.866 in the examination performed on all individuals. Reliability results show that all questionnaire items are consistent within the test. Bartlett's test of sphericity was statistically significant (p < 0.05) and Kaiser–Meyer–Olkin test was 0.794. The results of the exploratory factor analysis indicated the creation of a single‐factor structure. The examinations conducted on all participants revealed a statistically significant weak negative correlation between OES and OHIP scores (r = −0.144). Conclusions: OES‐Tr can be utilized as a reliable tool to evaluate an individual's perception of their orofacial appearance. With its excellent psychometric properties, it serves as a valuable instrument for assessing self‐perceived orofacial esthetics. Background: The manufacturing processes of plasma products include steps that can remove prions. The efficacy of these steps is measured in validation studies using animal brain‐derived prion materials called spikes. Because the nature of the prion agent in blood is not known, the relevance of these spikes, particularly with steps that are based on retention mechanisms such as nanofiltration, is important to investigate. Study Design and Methods: The aggregation and sizes of PrPres assemblies of microsomal fractions (MFs) extracted from 263K‐infected hamster brains were analyzed using velocity gradients. The separated gradient fractions were either inoculated to Tg7 mice expressing hamster‐PrPc to measure infectivity or used in Protein Misfolding Cyclic Amplification for measuring seeding activity. The collected data allowed for reanalyzing results from previous nanofiltration validation studies. Results: A significant portion of MFs was found to be composed of small PrPres assemblies, estimated to have a size ≤24 mers (~22–528 kDa), and to contain a minimum of 20% of total prion infectivity. With this data we could calculate reductions of 4.10 log (15 N), 2.53 log (35 N), and 1.77 log (35 N) from validation studies specifically for these small PrPres objects. Conclusion: Our gradient data provided evidence that nanofilters can remove the majority of the smallest PrPres entities within microsomes spikes, estimated to be in a size below 24 mers, giving insight about the fact that, in our conditions, size exclusion may not be the only mechanism for retention nanofiltration. Purpose: Considering the importance of incorporating quality of life (QoL) construct during the health care of patients with stage 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD) on dialysis, it is necessary to have evidence on the clinimetric properties of the instruments used for its measurement. This study aimed to establish the clinimetric properties of the Kidney Disease Quality of Life Short Form 36 (KDQOL-36) scale in patients with stage 5 CKD on dialysis in Colombia. Methods: A scale validation study was conducted using the classical test theory methodology. The statistical analysis included exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory (CFA) techniques performed on two independent subsamples; concurrent criterion validity assessments; internal consistency using four different coefficients; test–retest reliability; and sensitivity to change using mixed model for repeated measures. Results: The KDQOL-36 scale was applied to 506 patients with a diagnosis of stage 5 CKD on dialysis, attended in five renal units in Colombia. The EFA endorsed the three-factor structure of the scale, and the CFA showed an adequate fit of both the original and empirical models. Spearman's correlation coefficient values ≥0.50 were found between the domains of the CKD-specific core of the KDQOL-36 scale and the KDQ. Cronbach's alpha, McDonald's omega, Greatest lower bound (GLB), and Guttman's lambda coefficients were ≥0.89, indicating a high degree of consistency. A high level of concordance correlation was found between the two moments of application of the instrument, with values for Lin's concordance correlation coefficient ≥0.7. The application of the instrument after experiencing an event that could modify the quality of life showed statistically significant differences in the scores obtained. Purpose Methods Results Conclusion Implications for practice To evaluate the content validity evidence of the nursing outcome “sexual functioning” from the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC).A multi‐method study, including a methodological study analyzing the content validity evidence of the NOC outcome and sexual functioning, and a quantitative, descriptive, cross‐sectional study. In the first phase, a literature review was conducted to map and identify clinical indicators associated with sexual functioning to construct the conceptual (CD) and operational definitions (ODs) of each outcome indicator. In the second phase, experts assessed the CD and OD for clarity, theoretical relevance, and theoretical pertinence. The critical validity ratio (CVR) was calculated for each indicator. In the third phase, a pilot test of sexual functioning measurement was conducted with 33 patients hospitalized for coronary artery disease. Internal consistency was calculated through Cronbach's alpha.The CD and OD were constructed based on 120 articles and analyzed by 13 experts; four rounds were required to achieve the critical CVR in each phase. In the pilot test, the nursing outcome achieved a Cronbach's alpha of 0.95, and the mean assessment time was 26 min. Indicators with the highest mean scores were related to knowledge of personal needs and capabilities and comfort with one's own body.The CD and OD developed for the NOC outcome, sexual functioning, had adequate evidence of content validity. The outcome content has high internal consistency. Further studies on the validity of the nursing outcome should be conducted to increase its validity.The nursing outcome, sexual functioning, can be a tool used by nurses to evaluate the effect of nursing education and interventions on sexual functioning in the adult population. Internal consistency and interrater reliability tests were performed on 285 patients with laryngeal cancer, and an additional 130 patients were randomly selected from the 285 patients as an independent sample. Criterion‐related validity tests were performed using the standardized swallowing assessment (SSA). Nursing outcome sensitivity was detected by scoring two time points.The Cronbach's alpha coefficients were 0.951 for the nursing outcome and 0.942–0.965 for each indicator. The interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) values for each indicator ranged from 0.73 to 0.929. The scores of the nursing outcome were negatively correlated with the SSA scores (r = −0.555, p < 0.01). With the exception of two indicators, there was a significant difference (p < 0.05) between the total scores of the scale and its 11 indicator scores for the two time points. This study evaluated the performance characteristics, construct validity, and reliability of two computerized, self-administered verbal and visual recognition memory tests based on the Remember-Know paradigm. Around 250 healthy control participants and 440 patients referred for neuropsychological assessment used an iPad to complete the Words and Faces recognition memory tests before or after concurrent neuropsychological testing. Performance accuracy was high but without ceiling effects. Education, but not age, was related to overall performance for both samples while the influence of gender and race differed across samples. In the clinical sample, overall performance was worse in those patients demonstrating memory impairment on clinical assessment. Words and Faces subtests demonstrated the strongest correlations with neuropsychological measures of verbal and nonverbal memory, respectively. Both showed moderate correlations with processing speed while Faces was also correlated with visuospatial skills. The memory tests showed good test–retest reliability over two testing sessions. These findings demonstrate acceptable psychometric properties in clinical and community samples and suggest that this computerized format is feasible for memory assessment in clinical contexts. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is known to modulate the brain excitability and enhance cognitive functions and neuroplasticity, although adherence to its administration in post-stroke rehabilitation is still being understudied. This study set out to develop and content validate a questionnaire to assess clinical physiotherapists’ knowledge, attitude, and practices regarding the use of tDCS following a stroke. In order to gather expert opinion and come to a consensus on a certain topic, the Delphi technique was employed. The measure was validated using both qualitative (cognitive interviewing) and quantitative (content validity) methods on a panel of 32 experts. Calculations were made for the content validity ratio (CVR), content validity index (CVI), item-level CVI (I-CVI), and scale-level CVI universal agreement (S-CVI/UA). A total of 48 interdisciplinary experts in the field of neurosciences were invited. In all, 32 specialists from Neurology, General Medicine, Neurophysiotherapy, and Physiology departments accepted the invitation and provided their opinion for instrument analysis. After two rounds, early iterations of this instrument demonstrated an acceptable CVR value of 1, high overall content validity (S-CVI/UA = 0.86), and high content validity of individual items (I-CVI range: 0.83-1.00). The kappa value varied between 0.75 and 1, which is excellent. Its content is therefore deemed validated. Through an iterative process, its development and assessment revealed strong item-content validity for determining the domains of the questionnaire. Most research on school violence in Brazil has overlooked teacher victimization, focusing instead on students. This study focused on evaluating the psychometric properties of the Negative Acts Questionnaire- Revised (NAQ-R) in a sample of 10.148 teachers from Brazilian public schools. The NAQ-R, developed to measure exposure to workplace bullying, originally included 23 items but was later revised to 22. It assesses three factors of bullying: personal, workrelated, and physically intimidating forms. The study employed a self-administered questionnaire issued via the Internet. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses were performed, alongside assessment of convergent validity with the Self-Reporting Questionnaire-20 (SRQ-20), an instrument for screening common mental disorders. This study discovered a two-factor structure (personal bullying: α = .93, ω = .79; work-related bullying: α = .92, ω = .74). The NAQ-R showed adequate internal consistency and validity (RMSEArobust = .089, 90 % CI: .086 – .089, SRMR = .041, CFIrobust = .916, TLIrobust = .905), correlating positively with the SRQ-20. The findings align with international studies, suggesting the measure’s stability.

Introduction Portable respiratory monitoring (PM) has been used to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in the general population. However, its validation in patients with both OSA and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), remains unclear.

Objective: to conduct the cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric validation of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness in Brazilian Portuguese. Method: a methodological study divided into two stages. In the first stage, the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness was cross-culturally adapted for Brazilian culture, when the scale was subjected to translations, back-translations, and a committee of judges - to verify the semantic, linguistic, and contextual equivalence between the original and translated items. The second step was to validate the scale in a sample of families of children and adolescents with chronic illnesses. The participants were 230 families of children with chronic illnesses attending the outpatient clinic of a tertiary public hospital with teaching and research characteristics. Results: internal consistency was tested using Cronbach’s alpha (0.81) and McDonald’s omega (0.81). Confirmatory factor analysis was also tested, and the model’s fit was acceptable for validation standards. Conclusion: the version of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness showed evidence of validation and can be considered a valid and reliable instrument in Brazilian culture. The Brazilian Portuguese version of the Family Integration Experience Scale: Chronic Illness can be used to measure the experience of family integration in chronic illness.

ABSTRACT Objective: Develop and validate the content of an instrument for patient risk classification in emergency services of Primary Health Care. Method: The study included two stages: item generation and content validity. A literature review and retrospective analysis of medical records were conducted to create the instrument items. The Content Validity Ratio (CVR) was used to assess agreement among judges during content validation. Results: In the first and second rounds, 75 and 71 judges validated the risk classification instrument, respectively. The minimum adherence score for the latent variable item based on the final number of judges was 0.22 and 0.18; thus, 52 items, divided into three classification categories (red, orange, and yellow), were retained. Conclusion: The instrument was considered valid regarding clarity, relevance, pertinence, and agreement regarding the severity indicated in the item.

The continuous assessment of the impact and severity of FM is essential to manage the condition effectively. Assessment tools in Arabic are lacking for use in Saudi Arabia, which might lead to ineffective management. This study aimed to translate and cross-culturally adapt and validate the Arabic version of the Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire (FIQR).Methods: Following translation guidelines, 2 Arabic translators and 2 English-certified translators performed forward and backward translations of the FIQR. In a cross-sectional study design, the questionnaire was piloted with 5 participants and then subjected to cognitive interviews and psychometric analysis. Participants were FM patients recruited from a University Hospital in Riyadh and FM support groups in Saudi Arabia. The internal consistency, and reliability using the Cronbach α and interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) of 2-week test–retest, and criterion validity were evaluated.Results: The results included a total of 42 participants with FM. Six minor modifications were made during the stepwise translation of the questionnaire. The Arabic version of the FIQR had good internal consistency and test–retest reliability, with a Cronbach α of 0.855 for the physical functioning domain, 0.663 for overall well-being, 0.803 for symptoms, and 0.895 for the total FIQR, and the Pearson correlation coefficient of the ICC for physical functioning was 0.769 (95% confidence interval (CI), 0.541– 0.884) for the overall well-being domain, 0.555 (95% CI, 0.129– 0.772) for the symptoms domain, and 0.720 (95% CI, 0.370– 0.868) and 0.794 (95% CI, 0.579– 0.899) for the total FIQR score (p < 0.001), respectively.Conclusion: The Arabic version of the FIQR is a valid, reliable, and practical tool for assessing the impact of FM on Arabic-speaking patients and potentially contributing to the improvement of FM outcomes.Keywords: translation, cross-cultural adaptation, validation, validation studies, fibromyalgia, Arabic

Abstract Background Frozen Shoulder (FS) is a painful condition characterized by severe pain and progressive restriction of shoulder movement, leading to functional impairment and reduced quality of life. While different Patient Reported Outcome Measurements (PROMs) tools exist for assessing shoulder diseases, few specific PROMs are validated for FS patients. Purpose This study aims to assess the psychometric properties of the Disability of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire in FS patients. Methods One hundred and twenty-four subjects (mean ± SD age = 55.4 ± 7.9 years; 55.6% female) diagnosed with FS were included and completed the DASH questionnaire, the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and the Short-Form Health Survey 36 (SF-36). Floor or ceiling effects were investigated. Structural validity was analysed through a unidimensional Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), internal consistency through Cronbach’s alpha, test-retest reliability through the Intraclass Correlation coefficient (ICC), measurement error through the Standard Error of Measurement (SEM), and the Minimum Detectable Change (MDC), and construct validity through the hypothesis testing with the correlation with the other outcome measures used. Results No floor or ceiling effects were observed. CFA confirmed a one-factor structure after addressing local item dependency (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation = 0.055; Standardized Root Mean Square Residual = 0.077; Comparative Fit Index = 0.970; Tucker-Lewis Index = 0.968). Cronbach’s alpha was high (= 0.951), and test-retest reliability was excellent (ICC = 0.999; 95% CI: 0.998-1.000). SEM was equal to 0.5 points, and MDC to 1.5 points. Construct validity was considered satisfactory as 80% of the a-priori hypotheses were met. Conclusion The DASH questionnaire demonstrated good psychometric properties in FS patients, supporting its use as a valuable tool for assessing the impact of FS in clinical and research settings.

Numerous machine learning (ML) models have been developed for breast cancer using various types of data. Successful external validation (EV) of ML models is important evidence of their generalizability. The aim of this systematic review was to assess the performance of externally validated ML models based on histopathology images for diagnosis, classification, prognosis, or treatment outcome prediction in female breast cancer. A systematic search of MEDLINE, EMBASE, CINAHL, IEEE, MICCAI, and SPIE conferences was performed for studies published between January 2010 and February 2022. The Prediction Model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) was employed, and the results were narratively described. Of the 2011 non-duplicated citations, 8 journal articles and 2 conference proceedings met inclusion criteria. Three studies externally validated ML models for diagnosis, 4 for classification, 2 for prognosis, and 1 for both classification and prognosis. Most studies used Convolutional Neural Networks and one used logistic regression algorithms. For diagnostic/classification models, the most common performance metrics reported in the EV were accuracy and area under the curve, which were greater than 87% and 90%, respectively, using pathologists' annotations/diagnoses as ground truth. The hazard ratios in the EV of prognostic ML models were between 1.7 (95% CI, 1.2–2.6) and 1.8 (95% CI, 1.3–2.7) to predict distant disease-free survival; 1.91 (95% CI, 1.11–3.29) for recurrence, and between 0.09 (95% CI, 0.01–0.70) and 0.65 (95% CI, 0.43–0.98) for overall survival, using clinical data as ground truth. Despite EV being an important step before the clinical application of a ML model, it hasn't been performed routinely. The large variability in the training/validation datasets, methods, performance metrics, and reported information limited the comparison of the models and the analysis of their results. Increasing the availability of validation datasets and implementing standardized methods and reporting protocols may facilitate future analyses.

Objective: The aim of this study is to introduce commonly used forecast-verification metrics and compare their performance for different sample sizes. Material and Methods: Forecast verification metrics are widely used as decision support tools in various scientific disciplines. If the prediction results are binary, metrics can be used to evaluate the discriminative power for prediction verification. These metrics are called thresholddependent metrics. In order to show the effect of different sample sizes on the performance of forecast-verification metrics, a simulation study was conducted considering nine different commonly used threshold-based metrics. Using the Python-random library, data were obtained for 35 different n values in the range of 10 ≤ n ≤ 1000. For the performance evaluation, the values and interpretation levels recommended in the literature for the Kappa coefficient were taken into account. Results: From the results of this study, where different sample sizes were considered, it was found that the effect of increasing or decreasing the sample size on forecast verification was almost constant. It was observed that for all sample sizes considered, around 50 percent of the estimates had "none or none to low" levels of interpretation for almost all metrics. When the metrics were ranked in terms of liberality by considering fair, moderate, substantial and perfect levels of verification together, the order was obtained as F, Odds Ratio Skill Score, Critical Success Index, Peirce Skill Score, Clayton Skill Score, Prediction Skill Index, Heidke Skill Score, Kappa and Gi lbert Skill Score. Objective: To evaluate reliable and validated temporomandibular disorder (TMD) diagnostic instruments for use as diagnostic tools in epidemiological surveys. Methods: Two independent reviewers performed searches in the Medline/PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases to identify validation studies of diagnostic and screening instruments for TMD published up to March 2021. Results: Sixteen studies were included for the systematic review. Different TMD instruments were evaluated, such as FAI, RDC/TMD, DC/TMD, Helkimo Index, and AAOP Questionnaire. The instruments differed according to the number of items. Some questionnaires appear to be effective for the initial screening of TMD patients and can be incorporated in clinical practice and epidemiological studies since they are easy and fast to apply. Conclusion: To provide an accurate TMD diagnosis, it is important to use instruments that involve a clinical examination. Cross-cultural validation of self-reported measurement instruments for research is a long and complex process, which involves specific risks of bias that could affect the research process and results. Furthermore, it requires researchers to have a wide range of technical knowledge about the translation, adaptation and pre-test aspects, their purposes and options, about the different psychometric properties, and the required evidence for their assessment and knowledge about the quantitative data processing and analysis using statistical software. This article aimed: 1) identify all guidelines and recommendations for translation, cross-cultural adaptation, and validation within the healthcare sciences; 2) describe the methodological approaches established in these guidelines for conducting translation, adaptation, and cross-cultural validation; and 3) provide a practical guideline featuring various methodological options for novice researchers involved in translating, adapting, and validating measurement instruments. Forty-two guidelines on translation, adaptation, or cross-cultural validation of measurement instruments were obtained from "CINAHL with Full Text" (via EBSCO) and "MEDLINE with Full Text". A content analysis was conducted to identify the similarities and differences in the methodological approaches recommended. Bases on these similarities and differences, we proposed an eight-step guideline that includes: a) forward translation; 2) synthesis of translations; 3) back translation; 4) harmonization; 5) pre-testing; 6) field testing; 7) psychometric validation, and 8) analysis of psychometric properties. It is a practical guideline because it provides extensive and comprehensive information on the methodological approaches available to researchers. Background: Self-reported adherence scales are widely used in research and practice because they are low in cost and easy to apply. A free version in Brazilian-Portuguese of the Simplified Medication Adherence Questionnaire (SMAQ) can be a useful alternative for determining the adherent behavior of hypertensive patients. Purpose: To translate and evaluate the psychometric properties of the Brazilian-Portuguese version of the SMAQ therapeutic adherence scale for patients with arterial hypertension. Patients and methods: A multicenter, cross-sectional study was conducted in five outpatient units in Maceió-AL and Aracaju-SE between January and July 2019. A total of 117 patients aged over 18 years using antihypertensive drugs were recruited. The cross-cultural adaptation followed international methodological recommendations. Internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) was tested as a reliability parameter. Criterion and construct validity were verified by concurrent validation, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and validation by known groups. Results: The participants had a mean age of 56.6 years (SD = 10.7 years); most were female (72.6%). The mean number of antihypertensives prescribed per patient was 1.87 (SD = 0.87). There were 79.5% (n = 86) of patients considered non-adherent. Internal consistency was satisfactory (Cronbach's alpha = 0.63). A satisfactory correlation coefficient was verified with the Morisky-Green-Levine test as an external criterion (r = 0.56, p < 0.001). The scale's sensitivity measured through known group validity was 75.3%, specificity 29.5%, positive predictive value 63.9%, and negative predictive value 41.9%. We identified two factors of the instrument's construct from EFA: specific medication-taking behaviors and barriers to adherence. The initial KMO measure of sampling adequacy was 0.691, and Bartlett's test of sphericity was significant (χ² = 118.342, p < 0.001). Conclusion: The Brazilian-Portuguese version of the SMAQ scale proved valid and reliable for determining adherence to the pharmacotherapy in hypertensive patients. Introduction: The Adherence to Refills and Medications Scale questionnaire (ARMS) was designed to measure adherence to treatment. It was translated and adapted into Spanish, but its psychometric properties have not been evaluated. The aim was to evaluate these properties in a population with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: The study was carried out in community pharmacies in Granada (Spain) by interview. A principal component factor analysis (PCA) with Varimax rotation (construct validity), a concordance analysis (concurrent criterion validity and reliability by temporal stability) and Cronbach’s alpha and item-total correlation (reliability by homogeneity) were performed. Results: 107 patients entered the study. 54.2 % (58) were male and the mean age was 70.5 (SD: 9.7). The PCA extracted 4 factors that explained 57.49 % of the total variance. Cronbach’s alpha= 0.428, and in the test-retest κ= 0.627 (p > 0.001). Conclusions: The ARMS-e cannot be considered a useful tool to measure adherence to oral antidiabetic treatment in this sample. The Work Role Functioning Questionnaire 2.0 (WRFQ 2.0) is an important instrument within the context of occupational health, consisting of 27 items and 5 domains. In addition, a short version of WRFQ 2.0 with 5 items (WRFQ-5) was proposed, showing agreement with the long version. Thus, we aimed to confirm the number of factors of the WRFQ-5 short version and to verify the structural, construct, and criterion validity, reliability, internal consistency, and analysis of ceiling and floor effects of the Brazilian version of the WRFQ-5 in a general workers population. A questionnaire validation and measurement properties study. We evaluated the internal structure of the WRFQ-5 by means of confirmatory factor analysis. Construct validity was assessed by correlating the WRFQ-5 with the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Work Ability Index (WAI), and Self-Estimated Functional Inability because of Pain (SEFIP-work). Criterion validity was assessed by correlating the WRFQ-5 with the 5 domains of the WRFQ 2.0. Test-retest reliability and internal consistency were also evaluated. We observed positive correlations (p <.05) between the WRFQ-5 and the WAI (rho = 0.161 to 0.308) and negative correlations (p <.05) between the WRFQ-5 and the SEFIP-work (rho = −0.293). The WRFQ-5 significantly and positively correlates with the 5 domains of WRFQ 2.0 (rho = 0.742 to 0.830). The test-retest reliability of the WRFQ-5 was excellent (ICC2,1 = 0.935) and the internal consistency was adequate (Cronbach's alpha = 0.938). We did not observe ceiling and floor effects. The one-dimensional internal structure of the WRFQ-5 in Brazilian Portuguese has a valid internal structure and construct, as well as adequate reliability and internal consistency. Background: Lymphoma treatment can lead to long-term consequences such as fatigue, infertility and organ damage. In clinical trials, survival outcomes, clinical response and toxicity are extensively reported while the assessment of treatment on quality of life (QoL) and symptoms is often lacking. Objective: We evaluated the use and frequency of patient-reported outcome (PRO) instruments used in randomized controlled trials (RCTs) for Hodgkin lymphoma (HL) and their consistency of reporting. Methods: MEDLINE, CENTRAL and trial registries for RCTs investigating HL were systematically searched from 01/01/2016 to 31/05/2022. Following trial selection, trial, patient characteristics and outcome data on the use of PRO measures (PROMs) and reporting of PROs using a pre-defined extraction form were extracted. To assess reporting consistency, trial registries, protocols and publications were compared. Results: We identified 4,222 records. Following screening, a total of 317 reports were eligible for full-text evaluation. One hundred sixty-six reports of 51 ongoing/completed trials were included, of which 41% of trials were completed and 49% were ongoing based on registry entries. Full-text or abstract were available for 33 trials. Seventy percent of trials were conducted in the newly diagnosed disease setting, the majority with advanced HL. In 32 trials with published follow-up data, the median follow-up was 5.2 years. Eighteen (35%) completed/ongoing trials had mentioned PRO assessment in registry entries, protocol or publications. Twelve trials (67%) had published results and only 6 trials (50%) reported on PROs in part with the exception of 1 trial where PROs were evaluated as secondary/exploratory outcome. The most referenced global PROM was the EORTC-QLQ-C30 (12 studies), the EQ-5D (3 studies) and the FACT-Neurotoxicity (3 studies). FACT-Lymphoma, a disease-specific PROM for non-HL was mentioned in one ongoing trial. None of the trials referenced the EORTC QLQ-HL27, another disease-specific PROM developed specifically for HL patient's QoL assessment. Discussions: Only one-third of RCTs in HL report PROs as an outcome and only half present the outcome in subsequent publications, showcasing the underreporting of PROs in trials. Disease-specific PROMs are underutilized in the assessment of QoL in HL patients. Guidance on the assessment of PROs is needed to inform on comprehensive outcomes important to patients. Medical staff fatigue leads to accidents and mistakes and puts patient safety at risk. A measure of fatigue in the workplace may help to quantify, predict, and manage fatigue. This review aimed to evaluate instruments used to measure fatigue in medical staff within hospitals. A systematic review following the JBI methodology was undertaken. A search for articles was conducted in 2021. Included articles (all validation studies) were assessed for methodological quality using the COSMIN checklist. Measurement property data was evaluated for Quality of Evidence using GRADE methodology. Ten studies representing five instruments were reviewed: Occupational Fatigue Exertion and Recovery scale (now superseded); Occupational Fatigue Exertion and Recovery scale (15-item); Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory; Need for Recovery Scale; and the Swedish Occupational Fatigue Inventory. Four instruments show promise for measuring fatigue in hospital medical staff, however, there is limited certainty in the measure property estimates. The Quality of Evidence for measurement properties for all instruments is insufficient. Introduction: People with colorectal cancer (CRC) can present adverse effects, impairing the quality of life related to health (HRQoL). Objective: To validate the QLQ-CR29 module for the assessment of HRQoL, in Chile. Materials and method: Cross-sectional study that included 170 people with CRC. The internal consistency and construct validity (hypothesis tests) were analyzed. Results: 117 patients (68.8%) were evaluated before surgery and 53 (31.2%) after tumor resection. The internal consistency of the QLQCR29 was α = 0.838. The proposed hypotheses were confirmed: The patients evaluated before surgery complained more of “blood/mucus in the stool”, “abdominal pain”, “hair loss” and “abdominal swelling”, while the patients evaluated after presented more “fecal incontinence” (p < 0.05). Before surgery, patients with rectal cancer presented higher values of “urinary frequency”, “frequency of stools”, “pain in the buttocks”, “taste problems” and “embarrassment”; while those with colon cancer complained more of “blood/mucus in stool” (p < 0.05). After surgery, patients with CCR had higher “stool frequency”, “flatus” and “embarrassment” (p = 0.004) compared with those with colon cancer (p < 0.05). Ostomized patients presented more “fecal incontinence” and “embarrassment” (p < 0.001). Low significant correlations were observed between most of the dimensions of the QLQ CR29 with the dimensions of the QLQ C30. To establish the validity of the BHS-20, a sample of 2064 adolescent students aged 14 and 17 years (M = 15.61, SD = 1.05) were invited to participate in the research. Cronbach's alpha (α) and McDonald's omega (ω) were computed to evaluate the internal consistency. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to test the dimensionality of the BHS-20. The Spearman correlation (r s ) with depressive symptoms and risk of suicide scores of the Plutchik Suicide Risk Scale were computed to explore the nomological validity. The BHS-20 showed a high internal consistency (α =.81, ω =.93), an adequate one-dimensional structure with an excellent adjustment [χ2 S-B = 341, df = 170, p <.01, Comparative Fit Index =.99, RMSEA =.03] and acceptable nomological validity with depressive symptoms (r s =.47, p <.01) and scores for suicide risk (r s =.33, p <.01). A simple, specific, accurate, precise and robust ultra-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection method for quantifying lunasin peptide in pure form or in plant based vegan supplements was developed and validated. Chromatographic separation was achieved on Accucore C18 column (50 mm×4.6 mm, 2.6 µm) with 0.1 % formic acid in water (A) and 0.1 % formic acid in acetonitrile (B) delivered isocratically (50:50 v/v) at a flow rate of 0.4 ml/min for 10 min and the detection was monitored at 216 nm. Lunasin was eluted at a retention time of 4.94 min with a total runtime of less than 6 min. The chromatographic parameters were optimized using the Box-Behnken design with a sample set of 30 experimental runs. The developed ultraperformance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection method was validated in accordance with the International Council for Harmonisation Q2(R1) guideline and evaluated the parameters such as system suitability, linearity, sensitivity, accuracy, precision, specificity and robustness. The method was found to be linear within the concentration range of 0.50-10.0 µg/ml. The developed method could be a viable candidate for routine quantification of lunasin peptide in nutraceutical formulations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract Objective: to analyze the reliability of the items that compose the instrument for classifying newborns according to the degree of dependence on nursing care in a neonatal intensive care unit. Method: methodological study that analyzed the agreement and reliability of the instrument in a neonatal intensive care unit. Six care nurses and a research nurse assessed 35 newborns and completed the instrument, which was made up of 15 areas of care. The weighted Kappa coefficient and the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient were used for analysis. Results: the areas of: weight (92%), oxygenation (93%) and catheter control (95%) had almost perfect agreement and the area of reaction to stimuli (50%) had poor agreement. The areas of elimination and vital signs showed low reliability, due to the low variability of responses. The Intraclass Correlation Coefficient was 0.94. Conclusion: there are variations in the evaluations of some areas of care due to the imprecise description of items to which scores are assigned, however the instrument is reliable for categorizing the type of care (minimal, intermediate and intensive). Its use can contribute to measuring the quality and safety of newborn care.

Abstract Objective: to analyze the psychometric properties of the Incivility in Nursing Education - Revised Survey - Brazilian version with undergraduate nursing students. Method: methodological study conducted in a nursing school in São Paulo state. It is the analysis of the psychometric properties (reliability and construct validity) of the items in the INE-R survey - Brazilian version. Construct validity was performed by Confirmatory Factor Analysis, and reliability by test-retest in order to verify the instrument’s stability, as calculated by the Intraclass Correlation Coefficient and the Internal Consistency of the items according to Cronbach’s alpha, ordinal alpha and McDonalds’s omega coefficients. Results: Confirmatory Factor Analysis fitted the proposed model with two factors (low and high incivility), with a suggestion to exclude one of student items. Most of the fitting values for the student items and all of the faculty-member items complied with the references established in the literature; the values for Internal Consistency Coefficients were greater than 0.80, and Intraclasss Correlation Coefficients were greater than 0.75. Conclusion: the Brazilian version of the Incivility in Nursing Education - Revised Survey is validated for the studied context, as it has shown satisfactory reliability and validity by means of factor analysis, which has confirmed the original two-factor model, with 23 items addressing student behaviors and 24 items applied to faculty behaviors.

Abstract Objective This study aimed to translate and validate the Estro-Androgenic-Symptom Questionnaire in Women (EASQ-W) into Brazilian Portuguese language, as we hypothesized that this tool would be consistent for addressing the specific context of hormonal symptoms in menopause. Methods In a cross-sectional study, a total of 119 women with Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) and 119 climacteric women without GSM were included. The EASQ-W was translated, and its psychometric properties were rigorously examined. Participants completed questionnaires covering sociodemographic details, the EASQ-W, and the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS). A subgroup of 173 women was re-invited after 4 weeks for test-retest analysis of the EASQ-W. Additionally, the responsiveness of the questionnaire was evaluated in 30 women who underwent oral hormonal treatment. Results The internal consistency of the EASQ-W was found to be satisfactory in both GSM and control groups (Cronbach’s alpha ≥ 0.70). Notably, a floor effect was observed in both groups; however, a ceiling effect was only evident in the sexual domain of the GSM group. Construct validity was established by comparing the EASQ-W with the MRS, yielding statistically significant correlations (0.33831-0.64580, p < 0.001). The test-retest reliability over a 4-week period was demonstrated to be satisfactory in both the GSM and control groups (ICC 0.787-0.977). Furthermore, the EASQ-W exhibited appropriate responsiveness to oral hormonal treatment (p < 0.001). Conclusion This study successfully translated and validated the Estro-Androgenic-Symptom Questionnaire in Women (EASQ-W) into Brazilian Portuguese, with satisfactory internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to validate the content of an instrument for assessing leprosy care in individuals under 15 years old in the context of Primary Health Care. Methods: methodological study of content validation, based on the evaluation of essential and derived attributes in primary care, in the professional version. For data analysis, the Content Validation Index (CVI ≥ 0.8) and Cronbach’s Alpha were calculated. Results: a higher percentage of judges among nurses (61.5%) was observed; with a doctorate (46.2%), and engaged in teaching and research (77%). The overall Content Validation Index of the instrument was 0.98. In the analysis of Cronbach’s Alpha of the instrument, the assigned value was 0.717. Conclusions: the instrument represents an advancement in the measurement of health evaluation policies and can significantly contribute to improving the quality of care provided to children and adolescents with leprosy.

ABSTRACT Objectives: to validate the Brazilian version of the Modified Scale for Delineating Advanced Practice Nursing Roles. Methods: this was a methodological study for the clinical validation of an instrument, conducted with 207 nurses working in primary care. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach’s alpha test, and z-test for proportion comparison were used. Results: the internal reliability of the scale was 0.944, with alpha greater than 0.80 in most domains, except for Education (0.786). In the exploratory factor analysis, considering the criterion of eigenvalue greater than one, eight factors were identified, explaining 79.38% of the variance. In the comparison of proportions, the adequate responses (≥ 2) in the domain of Comprehensive Direct Care, in both analyzed groups, were statistically equal. This domain had the highest score of adequate responses, followed by Education and Systems Support. Insufficient scoring was observed in the domains of Publication and Professional Leadership. Conclusions: the instrument demonstrated stability and reliability to be used in the evaluation of advanced nursing practice.

Abstract Background and objective Motherhood is considered to be a joyous occasion cross-culturally but can bring forth an array of issues including depression. In Asia, Pakistan is dangerously high on the prevalence of postpartum depression (PPD) with sporadic results ranging from 28 to 63%, which could be due to the use of non-indigenous tools. Methods An exploratory study-mixed method design was implied. During phase I mothers in the postpartum phase (up to 12 months) and experts were interviewed, items were generated, and pilot study was conducted. In second phase exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to establish construct validity, convergent and divergent validity was also established. Results A pool of 46 items was generated related to postpartum depression, which was reduced to 35 items as per the factor loading of 0.5 in exploratory factor analysis. Psychometric properties of the scale revealed good reliability (Cronbach α = 0.92) and factor structure of the scale. As per exploratory factor analysis five factors were revealed, explaining 58.07% variance, and the model was confirmed by confirmatory factor analysis. The scale showed significant positive correlation with Edinburgh' postpartum depression scale, depression anxiety and stress scale; establishing convergent validity and significant negative correlation with satisfaction with life scale; establishing divergent validity of the scale. Conclusion and implications for translation Questionnaire of postpartum depression scale is a reliable and valid tool that can be used to measure postpartum depression in Asian mothers and provide targeted interventions.

Scientific relevance. Viable cell counting is an important microbiological test for the quality assessment of medicinal products containing live microorganisms. To optimise labour and material costs and enhance testing precision and reproducibility, it is practical to use partially automated instrumental methods, such as the spiral plating method.Aim. The aim was to conduct a validation study of the spiral plating method for assessing the potency of biologicals containing live bacterial cells, using a lactobacillus-containing probiotic medicinal product as a case study.Materials and methods. This study used a culture of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum isolated from a probiotic medicinal product. Spiral plating on agar-based biological culture media was performed using an automatic Eddy Jet 2 plating system. The study used an IUL Flash & Go colony counter for automatic reporting of the results. The validation study was conducted according to the general chapter on the validation of microbiological testing methods (OFS.1.1.0021.18) of the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation.Results. According to the validation results for the main parameters, the spiral plating method had the range of 104–105 CFU/mL; the limit of quantification of 102 CFU/mL; and the coefficient of linear determination, R2, of 0.99. The accuracy of the spiral plating method in determining the potency of the test sample was 93%; the repeatability was 4.9%.Conclusions. The study results confirm the similarity of the spiral plating method with an automatic colony counter to Koch’s plating method, which is currently used in accordance with the State Pharmacopoeia of the Russian Federation, in terms of the validated parameters. Therefore, spiral plating can be used to evaluate the potency of lactobacillus-containing probiotics. Spiral plating can help improve the cost-effectiveness and accuracy of testing.

Abstract Background A psychometrically robust patient-reported outcome measure (PROM) to assess digital health literacy for chronic patients is needed in the context of digital health. We defined measurement constructs for a new PROM in previous studies using a systematic review, a qualitative description of constructs from patients, health professionals and an item pool identification process. This study aimed to evaluate the content validity of a digital health literacy PROM for chronic patients using an e-Delphi technique. Methods An international three-round online Delphi (e-Delphi) study was conducted among a francophone expert panel gathering academics, clinicians and patient partners. These experts rated the relevance, improvability, and self-ratability of each construct (n = 5) and items (n = 14) of the preliminary version of the PROM on a 5-point Likert scale. Consensus attainment was defined as strong if ≥ 70% panelists agree or strongly agree. A qualitative analysis of comments was carried out to describe personal coping strategies in healthcare expressed by the panel. Qualitative results were presented using a conceptually clustered matrix. Results Thirty-four experts completed the study (with 10% attrition at the second round and 5% at the third round). The panel included mostly nurses working in clinical practice and academics from nursing science, medicine, public health background and patient partners. Five items were excluded, and one question was added during the consensus attainment process. Qualitative comments describing the panel view of coping strategies in healthcare were analysed. Results showed two important themes that underpin most of personal coping strategies related to using information and communications technologies: 1) questionable patient capacity to assess digital health literacy, 2) digital devices as a factor influencing patient and care. Conclusion Consensus was reached on the relevance, improvability, and self-ratability of 5 constructs and 11 items for a digital health literacy PROM. Evaluation of e-health programs requires validated measurement of digital health literacy including the empowerment construct. This new PROM appears as a relevant tool, but requires further validation.
