Background Physical activity trackers possess the potential to encourage increased physical activity. However, users often exhibit poor long-term adherence to these devices, which may stem from a lack of understanding of the factors influencing their use, as well as changes in health behavior. This study aims to provide new insights into the types of health-related apps and devices that young people discover, select, and utilize, along with the underlying reasons for their choices. Methods Young adults aged between 18-25 years reporting the use and nonuse of health apps and wearables were recruited and participated in focus group discussions about app choice, features, their perceptions towards the physical activity trackers, and reasons for continued use and for not using one. A total of Nine FGDS were conducted among users, nonusers, and former users of physical activity tracker usage. Data was recorded, transcribed, and analyzed for themes in an iterative approach. Results The physical activity tracker users group stated that they had a sense of achievement, validation, and other motivational feedback, which helped with adherence. All three groups (user, non-user, and former user) had similar concerns about cost, reliability, accuracy, and dependency. Former users also reported that the idea of accomplishing the goals would create anxiety and, in turn, harm the body. Former users and nonusers expressed their concerns regarding lack of time and loss of motivation to track their physical activity. Nonusers had issues with the functionality of the device (ease of use, battery, notifications, apps hang) and were also aware of all the health benefits of using wearables. Conclusion Physical activity users group, former users group, and nonusers group shared concerns about accuracy, cost, and battery.

Background: This study provides us an opportunity to discuss about the development of a smartphone enabled Home based Self-management application for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. Objective: To summarize the baseline characteristics of the Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease patients recruited in present study. Methods: A single centered prospective non-randomized study has been conducted to implement the self-management application among 166 patients. Patients were matched based on gender and Global Initiative for Obstructive Lung Disease criteria. Smartphone application was provided to the intervention group and instructions were given to them. Results: The mean age of participants was 58.02 years in which more than half were male, more than 80% were married, almost one-third were educated up to class 10th, more than 65% have disease duration between 3 to 8 years, equally distributed for Grade 2 and 3 and two third were ex-smokers. The St. George's Respiratory Questionnaire score was 40.20 and 39.74, Clinical COPD Questionnaire score was 3.89 and 3.86, COPD Assessment Test score was 23.65 and 22.74 in intervention and control group respectively. There is no statistically significant difference between the group. Conclusion: The findings of present study provide a vital context for the follow-up results of the evaluation study.

Background Determine the effects of a multifactorial lifestyle intervention on physical activity (PA), BMI and health-related quality of life (QoL) in obese and overweight adolescents. Methods Nine schools in India were clustered randomly in a 12-month study with students allocated to a multifactorial intervention (MFI), or exercise only (EX) or control (CON) group. Participants were adolescents aged 11-16 years (n=671). In the MFI group, adolescents and their parents received lifestyle education using a validated booklet combined with a PA intervention for school students. The EX group received school-based PA only; the CON group continued regular activities. Primary outcomes were PA levels measured with the PAQ-A, and BMI; the secondary outcome was health-related QoL. A linear regression statistical model was used to analyse time, group effects and interactions, with Bonferroni correction for within-group differences at baseline (T0) and at 12-weeks (T1) (post-intervention), 6-month (T2) and 12-month (T3) follow-ups. Background One of the largest hazards to human health is obesity, which is intimately related to sedentarism and physical inactivity. Understanding the perspectives and attitudes of adults with overweight or obesity towards their lifestyle choices related to sedentary behavior and physical activity is essential for mitigating associated health risks. Objective This systematic review aims to collate the extent of qualitative research on the perception of sedentary behavior and physical activity among adults with overweight and obesity. Methods A comprehensive search of Scopus, PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science, databases was conducted, which yielded 2,881 articles. A total of 2591 abstracts were screened, and 45 full-text articles were examined. A total of nine qualitative studies involving adults with overweight or obesity (BMI > 25 kg/m2) were included in this systematic review. Data extraction utilized Rayyan.qcri.org software, and studies were critically appraised using Joanna Briggs’s Institute checklist for qualitative research. Results The included studies revealed a diverse array of themes, wherein a few perceived factors reported towards sedentary behavior were lack of awareness about the hazards, mode of relaxation, family commitment, technology use, motivation deficits, and fatigue. Barriers to physical activity encompassed social, cultural, and environmental factors. In contrast, peer support, fitness facility access, accountability, mental health awareness, well-being, and weight management facilitate physical activity involvement. Conclusion Perceptions in overweight and obese adults on sedentary living and exercise are intricate and multifaceted. This review provides valuable insights that can inform clinicians and researchers in promoting regular physical activity for adults with overweight and obesity.

Background: Obesity is a major public health issue globally which is intrinsically linked to reduced heart rate variability (HRV). Physical inactivity and reduced resting HRV are linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease, while athletes have a greater HRV. However, the exact correlation between physical activity and HRV remains uncertain. This systematic review aims to collect, report, and critically assess the current scientific literature about the association between physical activity and HRV in individuals with higher weight and obesity. Methods: A systematic search was carried out in electronic databases (Medline/PubMed, SCOPUS and CINAHL Plus) to retrieve studies that evaluated the relationship between physical activity and HRV in individuals with higher weight and obesity. Case-control, longitudinal/cohort, cross-sectional and observational studies were included. Using a critical narrative approach, information about the HRV, and physical activity was extracted and synthesized. The study was registered in PROSPERO: CRD42020208018 on October 9 2020. Results: After removing duplicates, 980 title/abstract records were checked for eligibility, and 12 papers were finally included in the narrative synthesis. The included studies contained physical activity as well as HRV in adults with higher weight or obesity with or without comorbidities. A negative relationship between moderate to vigorous physical activity and HRV indices had been found in two studies. There was also a negative relationship between sedentary time and HF (p = 0.049) and LF/HF (p = 0.036), as well as a positive relationship between sedentary time and LF (p = 0.014). Also dose-response association was found between vigorous exercise and higher SDNN, LF power, and HF power in one of the studies. Conclusions: This systematic review revealed a wide range of responses to physical activity and HRV; however, the current evidence uses a variety of approaches to objectively assess physical activity and measure HRV with different equipment.

Introduction The COVID-19 pandemic has posed an unparalleled threat to all dimensions of human health and well-being. The Pan American Health Organization has acknowledged the crucial role of rehabilitation therapies for COVID-19 and emphasised the importance of exercise programmes for COVID-19 survivors. This scoping review outlines our strategy for systematically reviewing published and unpublished literature to investigate the volume of evidence for exercise interventions for COVID-19 survivors.Methods and analysis This scoping review will be conducted based on the framework developed by Arksey and O'Malley. Six databases (PubMed/Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Cochrane Central, ProQuest and CINAHL) will be searched in August 2022 and articles will be considered for inclusion published till July 2022. Studies will be screened by two independent reviewers at the title/abstract and full-text screening stages, as well as data extraction and critical assessment. Data will be extracted in a data extraction form and presented as figures and tables with narratives. This scoping review will give a thorough understanding of the current literature on exercise interventions for COVID-19 survivors, as well as identify knowledge gaps that will guide future research. Preliminary searches will be conducted after the publication of this scoping review protocol.Ethics and dissemination No human or animal participants were involved in this review. Therefore, ethical committee approval is not required. Transparency will be followed at every review stage. Review findings will be disseminated through peer-review publications or through conference presentations.

Introduction Obesity is a chronic relapsing disease process and serious public health concern that can lead to chronic diseases, medical complications and a higher risk of disability. Another significant feature of obesity is dysfunction in cardiac autonomic function, which leads to changes in parasympathetic and sympathetic regulation, which can be measured using heart rate variability (HRV). The objective of this review is to estimate the extent to which exercise doses impacts on HRV among individuals living with overweight and obesity class I and II.Methods and analysis A systematic literature search will be performed using PubMed/Medline, Scopus, EMBASE, ProQuest, CINAHL, Web of Science and the Cochrane Library for articles dating from 1965 to December 2021. Inclusion criteria include studies designed as parallel-arm randomised trials, enrolling adolescent and adult individuals with overweight (body mass index, BMI≥25 to ≤29.9) and obesity (class I BMI: 30–34.9 and class II BMI: 35–39.9) undergoing aerobic or resistance training or concurrent exercise training. For data synthesis, sensitivity analysis, subgroup analysis and risk of bias assessment, Stata V.13.0 software will be used.Ethics and dissemination Formal ethical approval is not required. Background. Mask wearing can restrict the spread of respiratory viral transmission during the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Globally, governments have emphasized its use in workplaces and public areas to prevent the transmission routes of corona virus. In spite of the current awareness in the general population, the stringency of wearing the mask lies as an individual’s choices. Subject and Methods. This research work discusses available studies on the types and comparison of masks in the market for use. It includes a short survey conducted with 1,173 anonymized healthy participants primarily devoid of comorbidities. The survey includes the effects of mask wearing, while outdoor with minimal activities like walking and with mild activities like jogging and stretching. Our research further discusses various health effects of wearing a mask, including cardiac output, hypoxemia, hypoxia, and dyspnoea, and how such situations that pose a threat can be consciously avoided. Results. It was found that the majority of people use cloth/fabric reusable mask. There remains scope for better-designed masks and improving health in the mass population by inculcating healthy breathing habits and other relevant exercises that can help people cope up better in this fight against the deadly virus at a larger scale. Conclusion. For most of the survey questions, there was significant correlation between gender and the related responses as there was no significantly observable difference in the nonparametric, unpaired analyses of responses. The main objective of this research work is to initiate more discussions and enhance awareness in natural ways of staying healthy during the pandemic emphasizing mask use. Further progress in this aspect remains a whole new area for future exploration.

Background: The biomechanical changes in foot among people with type 2 diabetes mellitus often leads to various foot complications which could further add to diabetes related morbidity & mortality. These changes could be seen due to musculoskeletal factor like reduction in intrinsic foot muscle strength, tightness of lower limb muscles, postural changes, etc. Aim: To design and determine the efficacy of a structured exercise program on foot kinetics and kinematics among type 2 participants Materials and methods: A total of 35 participants with type 2 diabetes (n=15, type 2 diabetes mellitus without neuropathy and n=20, type 2 diabetes with peripheral neuropathy) were recruited. All participants were screened clinically & biochemically and given a set of structured exercise program, three times a week for 12weeks along with standard medical care. Results: The mean age of the participants was 56±10.5 (Non neuropathy) 62.3±7.35 (Neuropathy) years, mean duration of diabetes was 8.7±8.95 (Non neuropathy), 10.97±8 (Neuropathy) years, mean Body mass index was 26.54± 4.83(Non neuropathy), 24.39±3.58 (Neuropathy), Significant differences have been observed in kinetic and kinematic variables. Conclusion: The present study shows that the structured exercise protocol is very effective in improving the biomechanics of foot in people with type 2 diabetes with and without neuropathy. It could help to correct the structure and function of the foot and eventually could reduce the risk of foot complications like diabetic foot ulcers.

Introduction There has been a steep increase in the prevalence of adolescent overweight and obesity globally and in India, demonstrating that present prevention strategies are insufficient. Available evidence suggests that multifactorial interventions may improve short-term physical activity (PA), nutrition and psychological behaviour of overweight and obese adolescents but long-term follow-ups and strategies are needed. This study will investigate the effects of a structured multifactorial (school-based and family-based) intervention on adolescent obesity, compared with a single or no intervention.Methods and analysis A pragmatic, clustered randomised controlled trial with 12 weeks of interventions and 3-month, 6-month and 12-month follow-ups will be conducted at multiple participating schools in Karnataka, India. The participants will be overweight and obese male and female adolescents aged 11–16 years and will be randomly assigned by school into three groups: group A (multifactorial intervention, exercise and dietary advice); group B (exercise only); and group C (controls, no interventions). Primary outcome measures are the level of PA and body composition. Secondary outcomes are dietary change, behaviour change, food behaviours, cardiovascular and muscular fitness, quality of life, parental behaviours (physical and mental) and family functioning. Positive intervention results may reduce obesity in adolescents and promote a healthier lifestyle for students and families. A larger, culturally diverse population can benefit from a similar methodology.Ethics and dissemination The study has been approved by the Institutional Research and Ethics Committee (IEC 536-2018), Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, Udupi District, Karnataka, India. A written and verbal informed consent (supplemental material) will be provided to the participants prior to participation. On completion of the trial, the results can be communicated to adolescents and their parents on request, and will be published at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journals.Trial registration number CTRI/2019/04/018834.

Introduction: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major global health problem. In 2014, worldwide, 1.5 million deaths were reported from TB. The study was planned to assess sputum smear grading and treatment outcome among TB patients attending tuberculosis unit (TU), Jagdalpur of Bastar district in Chhattisgarh. Materials and Methods: It was a record-based analysis for the year 2014 data from TU, Jagdalpur, Bastar of Chhattisgarh. Statistical Analysis Used: Data entry and analysis were done using STATA/SE 14.1 software. Results: Out of total registered 496 TB patients in 2014, 207 were sputum smear positive with 83 (40.1%) having 3 + and 14 (6.8%) having scanty sputum grading. The percentage of successfully treated was lowest, 71.4% in scanty followed by 1+ (80.2%), compared to 84.1% in sputum smear negative (P = 0.02335). Overall rate of unfavorable outcome was 16.9%. Factors associated with unfavorable outcome were age more than 40 years (P = 0.01894), male gender (P = 0.06722), and retreatment cases (P = 0.0001136). Death rate was higher (6.6%) among patients of Category II. Higher default rate in new smear positive (8.3%), new smear negative (7.8%), and retreatment (16.7%) was noted. Conclusions: Overall rate of unfavorable outcome was higher in patients with scanty and 1+sputum grading. Age more than 40 years, male sex, and retreatment category were factors associated with unfavorable outcome.

Background Data on disability is essential for the government to prepare policies, assign sufficient resources and apply appropriate strategies. We aimed to approximate the prevalence of disability and express the forms of disability by age, gender, residence and districts in Uttar Pradesh, (UP) India. Methods We analyzed the 2011 Census data of Uttar Pradesh. Dis- ability rates per 100 000 population were calculated. Results There were 41, 57,514 disabled individuals in UP in 2011 out of total 19,98,12,341 population ,disability rate of 2081 per 100 000 population. Disability in hearing, seeing and movement indi- vidually accounted for 25%, 18% and 16% of the total disability, respectively. Disability rates increased as age advanced with the higher rate of 4276 per 100 000 among people aged 60 years and above. The disability rates were higher in males. Higher disability rates were also observed among illiterates (2331 per 100 000).Widowed, divorced and separated were having highest dis- ability rate of 4529 per 100000. Literate, currently married and working populations had lower disability rates. Conclusions Physical or mental disability was observed in 2.1% of the population of Uttar Pradesh. Research is necessary to identify underlying causes and interventions to reduce the burden of dis- ability in the state.

Background: Several initiatives have assessed if mining electronic health records (EHRs) may accelerate the process of drug safety signal detection. In Europe, Exploring and Understanding Adverse Drug Reactions (EU-ADR) Project Focused on utilizing clinical data from EHRs of over 30 million patients from several European countries. Rofecoxib is a prescription COX-2 selective Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID) approved in 1999. In September 2004, the manufacturer withdrew rofecoxib from the market because of safety concerns. In this study, we investigated if the signal concerning rofecoxib and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) could have been identified in EHR database (EU-ADR project) earlier than spontaneous reporting system (SRS), and in advance of rofecoxib withdrawal.Methods: Data from the EU-ADR project and WHO-VigiBase (for SRS) were used for the analysis. Signals were identified when respective statistics exceeded defined thresholds. The SRS analyses was conducted two ways- based on the date the AMI events with rofecoxib as a suspect medication were entered into the database and also the date that the AMI event occurred with exposure to rofecoxib.Results: Within the databases participating in EU-ADR it was possible to identify a strong signal concerning rofecoxib and AMI since Q3 2000 [RR LGPS = 4.5 (95% CI: 2.84–6.72)] and peaked to 4.8 in Q4 2000. In WHO-VigiBase, for AMI term grouping, the EB05 threshold of 2 was crossed in the Q4 2004 (EB05 = 2.94). Since then, the EB05 value increased consistently and peaked in Q3 2006 (EB05 = 48.3) and then again in Q2 2008 (EB05 = 48.5). About 93% (2260 out of 2422) of AMIs reported in WHO-VigiBase database actually occurred prior to the product withdrawal, however, they were reported after the risk minimization/risk communication efforts.Conclusion: In this study, EU-EHR databases were able to detect the AMI signal 4 years prior to the SRS database. We believe that for events that are consistently documented in EHR databases, such as serious events or events requiring in-patient medical intervention or hospitalization, the signal detection exercise in EHR would be beneficial for newly introduced medicinal products on the market, in addition to the SRS data.

Introduction: India was leading in total number of under-five deaths in 2015 with 1.2 million deaths. The present study was planned to find the differences among the factors related to continuum of care for maternal, newborn and child health that may be associated with higher U5MR in Madhya Pradesh as compared Tamilnadu. Materials and Methods: The study was carried out from the data of 13 States available from NFHS-4. Data entry and analysis using chi-square was done with help of statistical software OpenEpi. Results: There was significantly lower women’s education, higher child marriages and poor maternal, newborn and child health care such as poor ANC, poor PNC and poor immunization, poor nutritional status etc. in rural and urban areas of MP compared to TN. Conclusions: MP had challenges of lower women’s education, higher child marriages, poor antenatal and postnatal care and other factors related to continuum of care for maternal, newborn and child health in rural and urban areas compared to Tamil Nadu (TN).

Background: For achievment MDG goal of reduction of Maternal mortality Government of Gujarat has taken an iniative “Chiranjeevi Yojana”(CY) with the help of Public Private Partnership (PPP). Objective of the study was to assess health services provided by private obstetricians & perceptions of beneficiaries regarding scheme amongst the beneficiaries registered under CY. Method: A cross-sectional study by purposive sampling was conducted in 2011 in Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation among 74 beneficiaries registered under CY who delivered in February 2011 by interview method. Results: Beneficiaries in the age group of 21 to 30 were 86%. ANC visits were chargeable in 13.5% beneficiaries and 86.5% beneficiaries paid for USG examinations. In most cases IFA tablets, TT injections and Laboratory investigation were provided by nearby urban health centre (UHC) and not by the private provider. More than half (52.7%) of beneficiaries were charged for deliveries. Charge of CS deliveries was 100% with CS rate of 9.5%. Transportation charge was not provided to 98.6%beneficiaries. Conclusion: Poor awareness in beneficiaries was observed regarding what services they are entitled under CY.

Background and objectives: Almost half of the adult disease burden in South Asia is attributable to non-communicable diseases. Earlier literature is limited to evaluating non-communicable disease (NCD) risk factor but, there is a limited literature evaluating physical activity (PA), a modifiable risk factor for NCD among physicians in India. We aimed to assess the NCD risk factors and physical activity using questionnaire among physicians. Methods: 100 physicians with minimum of 5 years of clinical experience, volunteered were included in the present study. NCD risk factors and physical activity were evaluated through WHO STEPS instrument and self-report PA questionnaires. They were administered through face to face interviews. Prevalence of NCD risk factors and level of PA were analyzed. Results: Age group was 37.86±8.85 years. Males and females were 52% and 48%. Alcohol and tobacco use was found in 6% and 1% subjects. HTN and DM were found in 2% population. 69% physicians were found to be in overweight category. Total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were high in 3% and 9% physicians. PA mean score was 1227.2±76 MET min/wk. 20% physicians were found to have low PA level. Conclusion: This study provides first data on PA, a potential modifiable risk factor for non- communicable disease risk factors among physicians in India. Sitting time was found ‘often’ in them. 20% of physicians had a low level of PA and were at high risk for cardio-vascular diseases.

Background One of the largest hazards to human health is obesity, which is intimately related to sedentarism and physical inactivity. Understanding the perspectives and attitudes of adults with overweight or obesity towards their lifestyle choices related to sedentary behavior and physical activity is essential for mitigating associated health risks. Objective This systematic review aims to collate the extent of qualitative research on the perception of sedentary behavior and physical activity among adults with overweight and obesity. Methods A comprehensive search of Scopus, PubMed, CINAHL, and Web of Science, databases was conducted, which yielded 2,881 articles. A total of 2591 abstracts were screened, and 45 full-text articles were examined. A total of nine qualitative studies involving adults with overweight or obesity (BMI > 25 kg/m 2) were included in this systematic review. Data extraction utilized Rayyan.qcri.org software, and studies were critically appraised using Joanna Briggs’s Institute checklist for qualitative research. Results The included studies revealed a diverse array of themes, wherein a few perceived factors reported towards sedentary behavior were lack of awareness about the hazards, mode of relaxation, family commitment, technology use, motivation deficits, and fatigue. Barriers to physical activity encompassed social, cultural, and environmental factors. In contrast, peer support, fitness facility access, accountability, mental health awareness, well-being, and weight management facilitate physical activity involvement. Conclusion Perceptions in overweight and obese adults on sedentary living and exercise are intricate and multifaceted. This review provides valuable insights that can inform clinicians and researchers in promoting regular physical activity for adults with overweight and obesity.

Background The aim of this study was to observe and analyze vascular function in ‘prolonged sitting’, followed by a yoga asana routine and pranayama intervention. Participants in this study include those who work from desks in offices. The study required the participants to attend on three separate days at random, and they had to finish a computerized test on each day. On the first day, participants were required to complete a computer test while sitting still for four hours (with the exception of washroom breaks). The next day, they underwent a computerized test along with a pranayama intervention. Finally, on the last day, they underwent a computerized test along with a yoga asana intervention. At the start of the study and after two and four hours, we measured the diameter and velocity of the common carotid artery (CCA) and superficial femoral artery (SFA). Methods The study was a within-subjects prospective single-center trial conducted in the Department of Radio-Diagnosis and Imaging, Kasturba Medical Hospital, Manipal, India, between September 2022 and January 2023. Participants were asked to do one of the following ‘activities’ over successive weeks: Week 1 – Prolonged sitting; Week 2 – Pranayama intervention; and Week 3 – Yoga asana intervention during prolonged sitting. The baseline and follow-up variables of pulse velocity, endothelial thickness, and shear rate were assessed for normality through a Shapiro-Wilk Test. Results Our sample included 11 participants with moderate physical activity, five with high physical activity and one with low physical activity. Yoga asana intervention comprised participants sitting continuously for four hours, with a yoga asana intervention being provided every hour, lasting for 10 minutes. Conclusions Yoga asana improves vascular functions in prolonged sitting conditions. This routine can promote the concept of interrupted sitting and ways to reduce it with efficient yoga asana practice without changing the work culture and provide better physical relief. Background: Isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) in the elderly is mostly brought on by arterial stiffness with ageing, which results in a lack of vascular compliance. The main cardiovascular (CV) hazards for elderly persons are arterial ageing and high blood pressure (BP). The aim of this study was to investigate if endothelial function in young, middle-aged, and older, healthy persons would be improved by Bikram yoga, a heated form of hatha yoga. Methods: Randomised control trials on yoga, vascular function, exercise, and office employees were used in the study, which was done in four databases (Scopus, PubMed, Ovid, and Science Direct). Results: 3 of 103 articles were included. We identified improvement of vascular function, FMD and arterial stiffness using yoga intervention. While exercise does not significantly affect ventricular function, yoga significantly reduces heart rate (p = 0.031) and increases pulse pressure (PD). Yoga also results in a mean increase in left ventricular ejection time (LVET), which was observed in the yoga group. The improvement in myocardial function was more pronounced in the yoga group than in the exercise group, according to the between-group analysis, which revealed a significant difference in post-intervention rate-pressure product (RPP) between the yoga and exercise groups. With a P value of 0.004, the mean% Mean Arterial Pressure (MAP) was significantly lower, demonstrating that yoga was effective in lowering MAP. However, older adults, but not younger ones, experienced a significant increase in brachial artery FMD (Flow Mediated Dilation) following the intervention. Conclusions: Yoga interventions may improve vascular function, arterial stiffness, flow-mediated dilation, heart rate, RRP and MAP, with older adults experiencing a significant increase in brachial artery FMD, suggesting the effectiveness of yoga in improving myocardial function and lowering MAP, particularly in older adults.

Background: Obesity is a major public health issue globally which is intrinsically linked to reduced heart rate variability (HRV). Physical inactivity and reduced resting HRV are linked to an increased risk of coronary heart disease, while athletes have a greater HRV. However, the exact correlation between physical activity and HRV remains uncertain. This systematic review aims to collect, report, and critically assess the current scientific literature about the association between physical activity and HRV in individuals with higher weight and obesity. Methods: A systematic search was carried out in electronic databases (Medline/PubMed, SCOPUS and CINAHL Plus) to retrieve studies that evaluated the relationship between physical activity and HRV in individuals with higher weight and obesity. Case-control, longitudinal/cohort, cross-sectional and observational studies were included. Using a critical narrative approach, information about the HRV, and physical activity was extracted and synthesized. The study was registered in PROSPERO: CRD42020208018 on October 9 2020. Results: After removing duplicates, 980 title/abstract records were checked for eligibility, and 12 papers were finally included in the narrative synthesis. The included studies contained physical activity as well as HRV in adults with higher weight or obesity with or without comorbidities. A negative relationship between moderate to vigorous physical activity and HRV indices had been found in two studies. There was also a negative relationship between sedentary time and HF (p = 0.049) and LF/HF (p = 0.036), as well as a positive relationship between sedentary time and LF (p = 0.014). Also dose-response association was found between vigorous exercise and higher SDNN, LF power, and HF power in one of the studies. Conclusions: This systematic review revealed a wide range of responses to physical activity and HRV; however, the current evidence uses a variety of approaches to objectively assess physical activity and measure HRV with different equipment.

Introduction: Access to interstitial lung disease programs may not be available in rural settings. Home-based pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) programs have been proposed as an alternative to hospital-based programs. Method: Forty participants with ILD underwent a structured unsupervised home-based pulmonary rehabilitation program from September 2020 to September 2022. Quality of life was assessed using St. George Respiratory Questionnaire (SGRQ) and functional capacity using 6-minute walk test (6MWT). The outcome measures were assessed at baseline and 4 weeks post-unsupervised home-based PR program. Result: We recruited 40 participants with ILD. There was statistically significant improvement in the 6-minute walk distance (353.8 m and 368 m, effect size – 0.5, p ≤.001) and quality of life using SGRQ total score (38.6 and 42.35, effect size – 2.5, p ≤.001) between before and after receiving home-based PR among all 40 participants with ILD. Conclusion: Four weeks of home-based PR program, using minimal resources, deliver short-term improvements in functional exercise capacity and quality of life among ILD participants. Our home-based PR program resulted in a quarter percentage improvement in functional capacity, and we believe that if consistency is maintained, it will result in similar changes corresponding to the already established Minimal Clinically Important Difference (MCID) of 35 m. Use of tele-technology for monitoring symptoms, functional parameters, and quality-of-life of people with asthma is essential. Delivering this information among patients is mandated for a better outcome and made possible via patient education (PE). This review aims to summarize the types of telerehabilitation modalities, dosage, and outcome measures used to assess the effectiveness of PE among people with asthma. We adopted a scoping review methodology. Thematic analysis was used to synthesize the data. The Preferred Reporting System for Meta-Analysis for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR) was followed during the review process. PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched, with 34 studies meeting inclusion criteria. Results are presented in three themes: telerehabilitation platforms used to deliver PE among patients with asthma; content, duration, and frequency of the PE administered; and patient-reported outcome measures used to evaluate the effectiveness of PE. This scoping study detailed the types of telerehabilitation modalities, dosage, and outcome measures used to assess the effectiveness of PE in people with asthma. This review will be especially beneficial to those considering where additional research or implementation of telerehabilitation for asthma patients is required. The studies emphasized the involvement of several healthcare experts, emphasizing the significance of a multidisciplinary approach to efficient PE delivery and possible improvements in asthma management through telerehabilitation. Although a range of telerehabilitation platforms were generally accepted, hybrid models that integrate online and in-person sessions could further enhance patient satisfaction and quality-of-life. Background: Alteration in the central vascular hemodynamics is speculated to influence cognitive functions, including executive functions in young adults. Prolonged sitting is associated with compromised central vascular functions, which activity micro-breaks could mitigate. However, the association between the carotid vascular hemodynamic alteration and the executive functions is yet to be explored. Methods: We administered a randomised controlled trial investigating the effects of various intensities' micro-breaks on central vascular and cognitive functions during simulated work conditions for four hours. The carotid artery hemodynamics and cognitive functions were measured by Duplex ultrasound at 0 th, 2 nd and 4 th hour and computer-based Flanker tests at 0 th, 1 st, 2 nd, 3 rd and 4 th hour of visit days, respectively. From the randomised controlled trial, we extracted the secondary data of carotid artery hemodynamics and cognitive functions change at the 4 th hour from the baseline and analysed for any relation. Results: Though we observed linear relation between the carotid artery hemodynamics and the executive functions, the relation was not statistically significant. we found a significant reduction in carotid artery diameter during prolonged sitting (0.03 cm [95%CI 0.01, 0.05]), velocity (10.35 cm/s [95%CI -2.85, 17.86]) and shear rate during interrupted sitting (174.39 [95%CI 65.67, 283.11]) We found increased accuracy during prolonged sitting (12.7% [95%CI 0.66, 24.81]) and sitting with light-intensity activity breaks (6.92% [95%CI 1.39, 12.44]). We did not find any significant relation between the change in central vascular functions (carotid artery diameter, velocity, shear rate and blood flow) and the cognitive functions during three different work conditions. Conclusion: Though a significant relation between carotid artery function and cognitive function could not be established, microbreaks can mitigate the vascular and cognitive risks associated with prolonged sitting.
