Sustainable Lifestyles Policy and Practice: Challenges and Way Forward provides an overview of the current (2019) situation for sustainable lifestyles globally. It includes 32 case studies from around the world, showing on-going efforts to support the transition to sustainable ways of living. The key messages of the publication are: There are challenges in conceptualising and implementing sustainable lifestyles. Although there aremany promising policies and practices, sustainable lifestyles is not currently always consideredfrom a holistic perspective and frequently suffer from approaches that overly emphasise onemethod or theme. Ideas such as wellbeing and planetary boundaries are not fully included, consideration of urban middleclass lifestyles remains dominant and thinking is too frequently focused on typical consumption domainssuch as buildings, consumer goods, food, mobility, and leisure. Moreover, there are considerable challenges in implementing sustainable lifestyles policies andpractices both in evaluation and scaling. There are a number of means of evaluating sustainablelifestyles policies and practices, however the adoption of such methods is not widespread and arefrequently complex and labour intensive. There are a variety of possible means of scaling. The most promising means of scaling appears tobe what is referred to as scaling deep – that is scaling throughchanges in norms and values. Thispublication finds that due to the tremendous variety of approaches and contexts globally, this conceptof scaling deep is key for sustainable lifestyles. Sustainable lifestyles requires a shared understanding of the need to combine wellbeingwith respect for ecological limits, but the means by which this will be achieved will vary considerablyglobally.

This is a report from the ENERGISING RESEARCH WORKSHOP, which took place during the 3rd SCORAI International Conference in Copenhagen in June 2018. The aim of the workshop was to draw on insights from three large European energy projects (ENERGISE, ENTRUST & SHAPE ENERGY) to explore some of the opportunities and challenges involved when trying to spread or diffuse knowledge and good-practices on local energy transitions in policy spheres, academia, and wider society.

This document (ENERGISE D2.5) provides an overview of national energy and supply dynamics across 30 European countries. The Deliverable encompasses reviews of the current state of the art and existing trends in national energy policies, energy systems and energy campaigns in each of the 30 countries. To enhance accessibility and engagement with the material, the information gathered is presented in 30 independent National Briefs.

This document (ENERGISE D2.5) provides an overview of national energy and supply dynamics across 30 European countries. The Deliverable encompasses reviews of the current state of the art and existing trends in national energy policies, energy systems and energy campaigns in each of the 30 countries. To enhance accessibility and engagement with the material, the information gathered is presented in 30 independent National Briefs. This format also permits follow on cross country comparison. For example, an analysis of the data presented in this comprehensive document reveals large variations across Europe in relation to final energy consumption for households (MWh/capita), shares of fuel in final residential energy consumption and residential final energy consumption by type of end-use. However, there are also interesting similarities across the continent, i.e. in energy consumption patterns for space heating. This collection of national briefs is an extremely useful resource for researchers and policy makers alike. In addition to providing an overview of the quantitative data per country, this collection delves deeper and provides relevant context and discussion which can assist when exploring how these variations and similarities occur. Specifically, the briefs provide contextual overviews of particular socio-material aspects at play in each country that may influence energy consumption levels, as well as insights into national (and in some cases regional) energy policies, including how energy consumption is understood and targeted. Finally building on from work conducted as part of Deliverables 2.1 and 2.4, this collection includes 30 case study examples, overviewing one sustainable energy consumption initiative (SECI) from each country. These in-depth examples were selected as they have been identified as cases which highlight understanding energy consumption as an outcome of everyday life dynamics and complex interactions between multiple actors, institutions and infrastructural aspects. These SECIs will provide good practice examples for those interested in firstly understanding socio-material aspects of energy consumption and subsequently incorporating these aspects into future targets and strategies.

This document (ENERGISE D2.6) provides four summary reports of WP2. After a brief introduction to this deliverable (section 1), section 2 provides short summaries of the form, function and results of all the previous WP2 Deliverables (D2.1, D2.2, D2.3, D2.4 and D2.5). Section 3 provides a summary of policy implications of the results, as well as corresponding recommendations. Section 4 provides a summary of academic publications coming out of WP2, and section 5 presents a summary of current and future work with disseminating WP2 results to wider, public audiences.

This document (ENERGISE D2.3) provides a background report on the process and result of developing and constructing a comprehensive open access dataset of sustainable energy consumption initiatives (SECIs) that have been collected and assessed as part of Work Package 2 (WP2) in ENERGISE. The dataset is designed as a map that is intended to be a user-friendly device that provides an overview of sustainable energy consumption initiatives (SECIs) in Europe. In particular, the map shows the variety in scope, content and approach in the identified SECIs.

This document (D2.1) provides an overview of the extensive data that has been collected on sustainable energy consumption initiatives as part of Work Package 2 (WP2) in ENERGISE. First a general introduction is given to the scope and objectives of WP2 specifically, as well as a short introduction as to how sustainable energy consumption initiatives are defined in ENERGISE. Subsequently, a full list is provided of 1000+ sustainable energy consumption initiatives that have been identified throughout Europe.
