This study was performed in order to investigate the effects of tandem and conventional vacuum steaming on the physical properties of 100% cotton and 100% viscose yarns. The yarns with different twisting coefficients and numbers were twisted and exposed to tandem and conventional vacuum steaming at different temperatures. Tenacity, unevenness, hairiness, twist liveliness, package hardness values, and spirality of knitted fabrics produced from these yarns were measured before and after vacuum steaming. The results obtained were assessed by means of COSTAT statistical analysis program. Variation analysis and SNK test were carried out at 5% (0.05) level of significance. The findings of this study indicate that the effects of vacuum steaming methods on the tenacity, unevenness, hairiness, twist liveliness and package hardness values of yarns are statistically significant. Although the effects of tandem vacuum steaming vary depending on the temperature applied and the raw material used, decreases are observed in unevenness, hairiness, twist liveliness and package hardness values of yarns. In this study, the effect of vacuum steaming temperature and time on the physical properties of polyamide (PA) 6 yarns has been investigated. Also, the effect of vacuum steaming temperature and time on twist liveliness and package hardness of PA 6 yarns has been studied and the results obtained have been evaluated using statistical methods. Further, the effect of vacuum steaming on dyeability properties of PA 6 yarns has been examined and the effect of vacuum steaming temperature and time on dye absorption properties of PA 6 yarns has been analyzed. As a result of this study, it has been seen that vacuum steaming temperature and time have significant effects on the tenacity properties, twist liveliness, package hardness, and dyeability properties of PA 6 yarns.

During yarn formation by spinning, fibres are bent into approximately helical shapes and tension is created Twisted yarns tend to untwist because of this tension. When twisted yarn tension is slackened, the yarns usually get coupled as loops and twisted in the reverse direction forming snarls. This situation is called the twist liveliness of the yarn. Yarn twist liveliness properties should be taken into account during the manufacturing process, and necessary precautions should be taken in order to avoid or minimise problems likely to occur during the subsequent processes. Today setting yarn twists on vacuum steaming machines is the most widely used method of decreasing twist liveliness values of yarns in this study, the effects of vacuum steaming processes and other parameters on the twist liveliness of 100% cotton, 100% viscose and 100% polyester yarns were investigated For this purpose, yarns with different twisting coefficients and numbers were twisted and subjected to vacuum steaming at different temperatures and for different durations according to their raw material properties. Twist liveliness values of these yarns were measured before and after vacuum steaming and the results obtained were assessed by means of SPSS statistics software. Variation analyses and SNK (Student Newman Keuls Tests) tests were carried out at a 5% (0.05) level of significance. As a result of this study, it can be concluded that the vacuum steaming temperature, raw material, the amount of twist, and yarn number have a significant effect on twist liveliness values of yarns.

In this study, the effects of vacuum steaming process parameters (temperature and duration) on tenacity properties of 100% cotton and 100 % viscose yarns were studied. For this purpose, the yarns with different twisting coefficients and numbers were twisted and exposed to vacuum steaming at different temperatures and for durations appropriate to their raw material properties. Tenacity properties of the yams were measured before and after vacuum steaming. The results obtained were assessed by means of SPSS statistical analysis program. Variation analysis and SNK test were carried out at 5% (0.05) level of significance. As a result of this study, it can be inferred that vacuum steaming temperature has significant effect on tenacity properties of 100 % cotton and 100 % viscose yarns but vacuum steaming duration has been found to be statistically insignificant on tenacity properties of cotton yams, and viscose yams. Bu çalışmada vakumlu buharlama işlem parametrelerinin (sıcaklık ve süre) % 100 pamuk ve % 100 viskon ipliklerinin mukavemet özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu amaçla farklı numarada ve farklı büküm katsayısında bükülen ipliklere hammadde özelliklerine uygun olarak farklı sıcaklık ve sürelerde vakumlu buharlama işlemleri yapılmıştır. İpliklerin mukavemet özellikleri vakumlu buharlama işlemleri öncesinde ve sonrasında ölçülmüş ve elde edilen sonuçlar SPSS istatistik programında % 5 anlamlılık seviyesinde gerçekleştirilen varyans analizi ve SNK testleri ile değerlendirilmiştir. Yapılan bu çalışma sonucunda vakumlu buharlama sıcaklığının % 100 pamuk ve % 100 viskon ipliklerinin mukavemet özelliklerine etkisinin istatistiksel olarak önemli olduğu, vakumlu buharlama süresinin ise istatistiksel olarak önemli olmadığı bulunmuştur.

İpliklerde vakumlu buharlama işlemleri ve iplik özelliklerine etkilerini incelemek amacıyla yapılan bu çalışmada önce çalışmanın amacı, hedefleri belirtilmiş, uygulanan vakumlu buharlama işlem yöntemleri ve vakumlu buharlama işleminde etkili olan parametreler açıklanmış ve daha sonra da vakumlu buharlama işleminin iplik özelliklerine etkileri ile ilgili yapılmış çalışmalar incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın devamı ise üç bölümden oluşmuştur.Birinci bölümde, vakumlu buharlama işleminin iplik özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda vakumlu buharlama işleminde sıcaklık ve sürenin; pamuk, viskon, poliester ve naylon ipliklerinin fiziksel özelliklerine, vakumlu buharlama işleminde sıcaklık ve metodun pamuk ve viskon ipliklerinin fiziksel (numara, büküm, mukavemet, düzgünsüzlük ve tüylülük özellikleri) özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiş ve sonuçlar istatiksel yöntemlerle de değerlendirilmiştir.İkinci bölümde, vakumlu buharlama işleminin ipliklerin büküm canlılığı, bobin sertliği ve kumaşda may dönme özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda vakumlu buharlama işleminde sıcaklık ve sürenin; pamuk, viskon, poliester ve naylon ipliklerinin büküm canlılığı, bobin sertliği özelliklerine etkileri, vakumlu buharlama işleminde sıcaklık ve metodun pamuk ve viskon ipliklerinin büküm canlılığı, bobin sertliği ve may dönme özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiş ve sonuçlar istatiksel yöntemlerle de değerlendirilmiştir.Üçüncü bölümde vakumlu buharlama işleminin ipliklerin boyanabilme özelliklerine etkileri incelenmiş ve vakumlu buharlama işleminde sıcaklık ve sürenin ipliklerin boya alma özelliklerine etkileri ile ilgili değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.Daha sonra da ileride yapılacak çalışmalar hakkında öneriler sıralanmıştır. In this study, performed to investigate vacuum steaming process parameters and their effects on yarn properties, the purpose and significance of vacuum steaming have been firstly emphasized. Secondly, the vacuum steaming methods employed and the parameters effective on vacuum steaming have been explained and these have been followed by the studies about the effects of vacuum steaming on yarn properties. The continuation phase of this study consists of three parts.In the first part, the effects of the temperature and duration of vacuum steaming on cotton, viscose, polyester and nylon yarns, and the effects of the temperature and methods of vacuum steaming on physical properties of cotton and viscose yarns have been studied.In the second part, the effects of the temperature and duration of vacuum steaming on twist liveliness, package hardness of cotton, viscose, polyester and nylon yarns and the effects of the temperature and methods of vacuum steaming on twist liveliness, package hardness and spirality at knitted cloth of cotton and viscose yarns have been studied.In the third part, the effects of the temperature and duration of vacuum steaming on dye absorption of nylon yarns have been studied.Also, some suggestions for the studies to be performed have been included in this study. Fantezi iplik grubu içerisinde yer alan ve özel bir öneme sahip olan şenil iplikler ile ilgili olarak yapılan bu çalışmada önce çalışmanın amacı belirtilmiş ve şenil iplik yapısını belirleyen ve iplik üretiminde önemli parametreler sıralanmıştır. Daha sonra şenil iplikler ile ilgili olarak yapılmış çalışmalar incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın devamı ise dört bölümden oluşmuştur.Birinci bölümde, şenil ipliklerde hav malzemesi tipi, iplik bükümü ve hav uzunluğunun şenil dokuma kumaş aşınma özelliklerine etkileri dört farklı aşınma test metoduna göre karşılaştırılmalı olarak incelenmiş, iplik ve kumaş aşınma dayanımı ölçüm sonuçları karşılaştırılmış ve aşınma ölçüm metotlarının pratik kullanımları için değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır.İkinci bölümde, şenil ipliklerde hav iplik tipi ve hav lif inceliği parametrelerinin iplik aşınması sonucu kütle kaybı, kumaş aşınması sonucu kütle kaybı ve bilgisayarlı görüntü analizinden elde edilen aşınma katsayısı değerlerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Ayrıca aşınma testlerinden elde edilen kütle kaybı değerleri ile görüntü analizinden elde edilen aşınma katsayısı değerleri arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir.Üçüncü bölümde, şenil iplik numarasının ipliğin yapısal özelliklerine ve üretim parametrelerine bağlı olarak tahmin edilmesini sağlayacak bir bağıntı geliştirilmiştir. In this study which was about the chenille yarns that are type of fancy yarns and having special importance, firstly the aim of the study was stated and the parameters determining chenille yarn structure and which are important in yarn production were explained. Afterwards the studies which are about chenille yarns were reviewed. The rest of the study was divided into four sections.In the first section, the effects of pile material type, yarn twist and pile length on the abrasion properties of chenille woven fabrics were examined comparatively according to four different abrasion test methods, the abrasion resistance measurement results of yarn and fabrics were compared with each other and evaluations were made for the practical uses of abrasion methods.In the second section, the effects of parameters like pile yarn type and pile fiber fineness on the mass loss due to abrasion of yarns and fabrics and on the abrasion coefficient values obtained from the computerized image analysis method were investigated. Furthermore, the relationship between the mass loss obtained from abrasion tests and the abrasion coefficient values obtained from image analysis was investigated.In the third section, an expression enabling the prediction of chenille yarn count depending on the structural properties of chenille yarns and the production parameters was derived.
