Objective: Childhood vaccine uptake in the United Kingdom (UK) is sub-optimal leading to outbreaks of preventable diseases. We aimed to explore UK parents' perspectives on why some children are unvaccinated or vaccinated late., Methods: We undertook a mixed-methods, co-production study involving a survey using a questionnaire followed by focus groups. We partnered with The Mosaic Community Trust (Mosaic) who are based in a more deprived, ethnically diverse, low vaccine uptake area of London. Targeted recruitment to complete the questionnaire (either on paper or online) was done through Mosaic, community networks and social media promotion. We collected demographic data alongside parents' views on routine childhood vaccination, their vaccine decisions, and experiences of accessing childhood vaccine appointments We report descriptive findings from the questionnaire and thematic analysis of free-text questionnaire answers and focus groups guided by the COM-B model of Capability, Opportunity, and Motivation., Results: Between June-October 2022, 518 parents were surveyed of whom 25% (n = 130), were from ethnic minorities (13%, n = 68-unknown ethnicity). In 2023 we held four focus groups with 22 parents (10 from ethnic minorities). Only 15% (n = 78) parents had delayed or refused a vaccine for their child. A quarter of parents felt they had not been given enough information nor an opportunity to ask questions before their children's vaccinations. Inconsistent reminders and difficulties booking or attending appointments impacted vaccine uptake with negative experiences influencing future vaccine decisions. Introduction: Vaccinations are important for informal caregivers and their care recipients. Mental health problems are common among care givers. The aim of this study was to investigate vaccination readiness in informal caregivers and associations with mental health issues. Associations between vaccination readiness in informal caregivers and the vaccination status of their aged care recipients were examined., Methods: Within the multicenter prospective registry study 'Bavarian ambulatory Covid-19 Monitor (BaCoM) ', informal caregivers were asked for symptoms of depression (PHQ-9), burden of caretaking (BSFC-s), psychological antecedents of vaccination readiness (5C model) and previous Covid-19 infections of their care recipients. The vaccination status against Covid-19, seasonal influenza and pneumococcal disease was determined via vaccination certificates. Data analysis was performed using ordinal regressions and Mann-Whitney-U tests., Results: Data of n = 91 informal caregivers, associated with n = 84 care recipients were collected. Symptoms of depression were associated with reduced vaccination readiness (Calculation: p = 0.026, OR = 1.18), as well as the perceived burden of caretaking (Confidence: p = 0.006, OR = 0.88). A previous Covid-19 infection of the care recipients was associated with decreased vaccination readiness of informal caregivers (Median (Q1-Q3) Confidence: 5.0 (4.5-6.0) vs. 4.0 (3.0-5.0); Calculation: 5.0 (3.0-6.0) vs. 4.0 (1.0-5.0)). The vaccination status of the care recipients interrelated significantly with vaccination readiness of their informal caregivers (Confidence: p < 0.001; Complacency: p < 0.01; Constraints p < 0.05). No significant interrelations between vaccination readiness and the vaccination status against seasonal influenza or pneumococcal disease occurred., Conclusion: Mental health issues of informal caregivers seem to be associated with the actual vaccination status against Covid-19 in their care recipients. Objectives: An effective vaccine for chicken pox has been included in immunisation schedules since the 1990s. In the UK the recommendation for routine inclusion came in November 2023; it has not yet been implemented. We explored paediatricians' attitudes towards the vaccine and their personal and professional use; as this has been shown to be an influential factor in parents' vaccine decision making., Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional online survey using a structured questionnaire exploring attitudes and knowledge towards the chicken pox vaccine of UK based paediatricians between June and September 2023., Results: We received 272 responses, 211 female (78%), 228 based in England (85%) with remainder in Wales (23), Scotland (8) and Northern Ireland (9); 150 (56%) reporting practicing paediatrics <10 years. The majority (n = 207; 78%) agreed that the chicken pox vaccine should be included in the UK routine schedule. Half the cohort, 52% (n = 135), reported having their own children vaccinated against chicken pox, 73% of those with appropriately aged children. Most, 86% (n = 225), recommended the vaccine to family and friends routinely or when asked; however, 42% (n = 108) did not feel able to advise patients' parents due to insufficient information. Of those who do not recommend the vaccine to family and friends, 22 (59%) reported insufficient information to discuss in a professional setting. Of those who did not think it should be included, or were unsure, 38/55 (69%) also felt they had insufficient information to advise parents regarding the vaccine., Conclusions: Whilst many paediatricians choose to vaccinate their children and agreed the chicken pox vaccine should be added to the routine schedule, the proportion disagreeing is not insignificant. Introduction: Current protocols aim to prevent some infant GBS infection through screening and peripartum antibiotics, however such strategies cannot be widely implemented in resource-limited settings. On the other hand, maternal vaccines in development against Group B Streptococcus (GBS) can provide a feasible universal approach. The success of any vaccine will depend on uptake in the population. Rates of maternal GBS colonization in the Dominican Republic (DR) and Caribbean region are among the highest in the world, but little is known about attitudes towards maternal vaccines in this region., Methods: A cross-sectional, multicenter, mixed-methodology survey evaluated facilitators and barriers to maternal immunization and acceptability of a hypothetical Group B Streptococcus vaccine among pregnant women in three hospitals in the DR., Results: Six-hundred and fifty women completed the survey of whom 85 % had never heard of GBS. Following receipt of information about GBS and a vaccine, 94 % of women stated that they would be likely or very likely to receive a vaccine. Being 18 years or younger was associated with a lower likelihood of GBS vaccine receipt (AOR 0.32, 95 % CI 0.14-0.69). Being born in the DR was associated with a higher likelihood of GBS vaccine receipt (AOR 2.73, 95 % CI 1.25-5.97). Among women who were unlikely to receive the vaccine, uncertainty about potential harm from a novel vaccine was the prominent theme elicited from free text responses., Conclusion: There was a high level of acceptance of a future GBS vaccine among this sample of pregnant women in the DR. However, knowledge of vaccines and vaccine-preventable diseases was low, and most women had concerns about the safety of new vaccines. In recent years, India has seen significant improvements in childhood immunization, but rates among the urban poor remain stagnant. Disruptions during COVID-19 pandemic have created further challenges. This paper focuses on how social norms, vaccine confidence, and interpersonal communication independently and jointly affect vaccine intentions among caregivers of infants living in six slum areas in Varanasi, India. Data for this study come from the baseline assessments conducted before implementing the Happy Baby Program, an intervention to improve vaccination attitudes and intentions. In-person interviews (N = 2,058) were conducted with caretakers of children up to two years old. Analyses showed that interpersonal communication about vaccines, descriptive norms, injunctive norms, and vaccine confidence were each associated with intentions to vaccinate in both a bivariate and, except for injunctive norms, a multivariate model. In addition, we found significant interactions among these variables, suggesting that the roles of interpersonal communication and vaccine confidence attenuated the relationship between social norms and vaccination intention. Overall, our model explained 46.2 % of the variance in vaccine intention. Background: COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy has been particularly high among immigrant populations, whose experience is shaped by a history of racism and discriminations, and distrust of the healthcare system. In this study we draw from the Theory of Planned Behavior to examine COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy among immigrants in Chicago., Methods: A mixed-methods approach comprising of both focus groups and a health survey was conducted from February to August 2022. Five focus groups were held (N = 35) among Black, Asian and Arab/Palestine participants to understand attitudes and beliefs around the COVID-19 vaccine. Focus groups were analyzed using a modified template approach to text analysis. Based on these findings and themes, we developed a survey that was conducted among 413 immigrants from the mentioned communities. We used hierarchical ordinal regression analyses to examine the relationship between COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and vaccination status., Results: Qualitative analysis suggest that the major factors influencing COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy included fear of adverse reactions, misinformation around COVID-19 and the vaccine, negative social norms around vaccination, and external pressure to get vaccinated. From our quantitative analysis we found that 24% of participants were unvaccinated, 5% were partially vaccinated, 32.3% were vaccinated but not boosted, and 39% were vaccinated and boosted for COVID-19. Objectives: To identify and synthesise evidence on cultural and social attitudes towards coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination and factors associated with vaccine acceptance in the adult population., Design: Systematic review., Data Sources: Six electronic databases were searched (CINAHL, Coronavirus Research Database, Embase, MEDLINE, Nursing and Allied Health Database, and Web of Science Core Collection). Additional studies were identified through Google Scholar and hand searching the reference lists of all studies included in the review., Method: The searches were conducted to identify all relevant studies published in English, from December 2019 to December 2021. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) and Appraisal tool for Cross-Sectional Studies (AXIS tool) were used to critically appraise the quality of included studies. Data were extracted and synthesised narratively., Results: 1260 records were identified, of which 38 studies were included in the review. Low COVID-19 vaccination acceptance rates were found among young people, females, non-medical students, and even some healthcare workers, which were associated with misinformation obtained through social media platforms, unknown side effects, questionable conspiracy theories, and doubts about efficacy and safety. Higher COVID-19 vaccination acceptance rates were due to recommendations from healthcare professionals and government sources, and the perceived increased risk of contracting COVID-19., Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccine acceptance varies across the globe. To increase the acceptance rate of the COVID-19 vaccine, public health education programmes should be promoted effectively and target specifically the groups who are most hesitant to receive the vaccine such as young people, females, and non-medical students. The COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound impact on the health, social and economic well-being of people in Canada and around the world. To address vaccine disparity among vulnerable populations facing social-structural challenges, it is crucial to provide evidence-based information on the importance of completion of the recommended vaccination schedule. In this study, we investigated vaccination rates and variables as facilitators or barriers to COVID-19 vaccination among vulnerable populations living in Vancouver's inner-city residents. On a weekly basis, a team (including health care providers [HCPs] and support staff) conducts a Community Pop-up Clinic (CPC) event at single room occupancy dwellings in Vancouver's inner city to provide COVID-19 vaccine and/or related information. Participants also completed a survey about their COVID-19 vaccination status and COVID knowledge, including knowledge about COVID vaccination. We collected data from 892 CPC participants between January 2021-August 2023. The median age at baseline was 45 (IQR 36-55) years, with 317 (35.5 %) female and 285 (31.9 %) self-identified as Indigenous. Within the population, 512 (57.4 %) reported unstable housing and 441 (49.5 %) were active injection drug users. Regarding COVID-19 vaccinations, 235 (26.3 %) were unvaccinated, 119 (13.3 %) had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 432 (48.4 %) had received 2 doses, and 106 (11.8 %) had received at least 3 doses. Variables such as age (AOR 2.28, 95 % CI 1.37-3.80, p < 0.001) and HCV seropositivity (AOR 1.91, 95 % CI 1.20-3.04, p = 0.005) were significantly associated with higher odds of vaccination uptake. Conversely, unstable housing was significantly associated with a lower odds of vaccination uptake (AOR 0.53, 95 % CI 0.35-0.79, p = 0.002). In Japan, subsidies from local and national government programs for HPV vaccination of girls aged 13-16 began in 2010. By 2013, HPV vaccines were being used routinely for vaccinating girls aged 12-16 as part of its national immunization program. However, in June of 2013, in response to reports of possible adverse reactions to the vaccine, Japan's Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare (MHLW) announced a 'temporary suspension' of its governmental recommendation for HPV vaccination. The vaccination rate quickly dropped from 70 % of age-eligible girls to almost zero. It was not until 2021 that the government's recommendation suspension finally ended. The efficacy and safety of the HPV vaccine is now well documented, yet Japan has failed to reestablish any credible level of HPV vaccination. The World Health Organization (WHO) warned that Japan's HPV vaccination debacle was likely to result in real harm to the girls who lacked its protection; something we have already demonstrated with real-world data. To reinvigorate the HPV vaccination program in Japan to its prior levels, in the face of the current high level of HPV vaccine hesitancy, we will have to address the irrationality of human decision-making pointed out by behavioral economics. Background: The global effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic highlights the pivotal role of vaccination in public health, particularly considering emerging severe acute respiratory syndrome-coronavirus-2 variants. While priority has been given to immunising vulnerable populations, children remain a significant unvaccinated group, prompting NHS England to include them in their new vaccination strategy. The role parents play in child healthcare decisions, specifically regarding COVID-19 vaccination, is crucial, and the Health Belief Model (HBM) provides a framework for understanding parental vaccination behaviour., Methods: To investigate the predictors influencing parental decision-making for COVID-19 vaccination in children aged 5-11, an online cross-sectional survey was conducted amongst parents (n = 206) living in the UK aged > 18, with one or more children aged 5-11. The present study measured HBM constructs, demographic factors, vaccine hesitancy and vaccine decision-making self-efficacy. Binomial logistic regression was used to analyse the responses of 206 participants using the child vaccination status (vaccinated vs. unvaccinated) as the outcome variable., Findings: The regression model significantly predicted child vaccination status, identifying perceived barriers, cues to action and parent age as significant predictors. Higher cues to action and older parent age increased the likelihood of child vaccination, while greater perceived barriers decreased it. The model achieved 80.8 % overall accuracy by correctly identifying 87.6 % of vaccinated cases and 69.4 % of unvaccinated cases, demonstrating high accuracy in predicting parental vaccination decisions., Conclusion: The present study contributes to our understanding of the factors shaping parental decision-making regarding COVID-19 child vaccination, highlighting the impact of perceived barriers, cues to action and parent age. Future public health campaigns should address the specific barriers faced by parents, emphasise external cues to action and tailor messaging to acknowledge age-related differences in parental vaccine decision-making. Introduction: During the COVID-19 pandemic, there was an unprecedented effort to engage people in clinical vaccine research. Most of the French volunteers registered in the first weeks after the launch in October 2020 of COVIREIVAC, an electronic platform dedicated to COVID-19 vaccine clinical trials (VCT). In the context of pandemic preparedness, identifying factors associated with eagerness or hesitancy to participate in VCT may help to increase recruitment of volunteers from diverse backgrounds., Methods: We used a mixed-method survey offered to the volunteers registered on the COVIREIVAC platform, and semi-directed interviews in participants to COVID-19 VCTs. Volunteers were divided into three categories: early volunteers (EV), registered before the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign, middle volunteers (MV) registered between the first of January 2021 and the generalization of the COVID-19 vaccination to the entire population in May 2021, and late volunteers (LV) registered afterward., Results: Among the 56,101 COVIREIVAC registered volunteers, 2,741 (4.9 %) completed the survey, 1,915 (69.6%) were EV, 301 (11.0%) were MV and 525 (19.2 %) were LV. Sixteen were face-to-face interviewed. Age, educational level, attitudes toward vaccination evaluated with the 5C-model did not differ between EV and MV. Women gender and the possibility to choose the vaccine platform was associated with being a MV. LV were significantly younger, had a lower educational level and had less positive attitudes toward vaccines than EV and MV. The main motivations for participation in VCTs were altruistic notably in EV and MV. For LV, they registered in the hope to choice the vaccine technology. Among the respondents, 2,041 (74.5 %) would consider to participate in a non-COVID-19 VCT., Conclusion: LV on the COVIREIVAC platform had a distinct profile from EV and MV, and were less confident in vaccines. Introduction: Communities of color had higher rates of Coronavirus (COVID-19) infection and lower rates of COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic. Parental concern about the safety and necessity of pediatric COVID-19 vaccines contribute to low childhood vaccination. Enlisting parents and caregivers as trusted messengers is an evidence-based approach to mitigate this challenge. VaxUpPhillyFamilies was formed to engage parents and caregivers as vaccine ambassadors to increase vaccination rates in children of color. This study aimed to understand the key benefits, challenges, and lessons learned from the VaxUpPhillyFamilies program., Methods: Three online debriefing sessions with ambassadors were conducted between September 7 and October 24, 2022, to share best practices, address challenges, receive emerging vaccine information, and provide support. Thematic analysis was utilized to develop broad themes and subthemes., Results: Four themes with corresponding subthemes were identified: 1) Motivations to Become an Ambassador: a) improving the health of the community and b) personal satisfaction; 2) Defining Success: a) community interactions and b) influencing opinions; 3) Best Approaches: a) being mentally prepared with facts, b) addressing community health needs beyond COVID-19, c) demonstrating empathy, d) "meeting them where they're at" by motivational interviewing, and e) building trust and connection; 4) Challenges: a) changes in vaccine guidelines, b) vaccine misinformation, c) varied perceptions of severity of COVID-19 illness and benefits of the vaccine, d) breakdown of communication from trusted sources, and e) structural barriers to engagement., Conclusion: Parents and caregivers were a resource for delivering evidence-based messaging about COVID-19 and other health challenges. To effectively equip parents and caregivers as public health ambassadors, it is critical to offer training in engagement strategies, to identify and combat misinformation, and to provide support in navigating challenges. Background: Healthcare professionals (HCPs) play a significant role in the decision-making process of pregnant women on maternal vaccinations. Whereas a high proportion of HCPs discuss maternal vaccinations with pregnant women, confidence in discussing maternal vaccinations is lacking and HCPs experience inadequate training to discuss maternal vaccinations with pregnant women. Furthermore, different practical barriers might influence the consultation process, such as lack of time. More studies on the barriers, as well as facilitators, to discussing maternal vaccinations is needed and will help us to better understand and support HCPs in discussing maternal vaccinations., Methods: This qualitative study involved semi-structured interviews with fourteen HCPs working as midwives or gynaecologists in the Netherlands. An integrated theoretical approach was used to inform data collection and analysis. Thematic analysis was conducted using inductive and deductive approaches. This study followed the COnsolidated criteria for REporting Qualitative research (COREQ) guidelines., Results: The thematic analysis of the data pointed to the following five themes of HCP counselling: the consultation process, attitude, perceived norm, perceived control and improvement ideas. Most HCPs follow a similar approach in maternal pertussis vaccination consultations, beginning by assessing clients' understanding, providing basic information, and addressing questions. However, consultation timing and prioritization vary among HCPs. Challenges in consultations include client requests for clear advice, with HCPs trained to remain neutral, emphasizing client autonomy in decision-making. Most HCPs acknowledge the importance of their consultations in informing pregnant women about maternal pertussis vaccination., Conclusions: This study offers a confirmation of the awareness of the pivotal role of HCPs in informing pregnant women about the maternal pertussis vaccination. HCPs stress the importance of neutral counselling, enabling pregnant women to make well-informed decisions independently. Because of upcoming vaccine hesitancy nowadays, HCPs must be equipped with the knowledge and confidence to navigate difficult conversations. Continuous education and training might help to increase HCPs' confidence in handling difficult consultations. Additionally, making the information materials for pregnant women available in multiple languages and incorporating more visuals to enhance comprehension could support HCPs in reaching a broader group of pregnant women., (© 2024. In this study, we analyzed associations between vaccination knowledge, vaccination intention, political ideology, and belief in conspiracy theories before and during the 2020 Sars-Cov-2 pandemic in the Brazilian population. It was conducted a longitudinal study into three data collections. Participants responded to the Flexible Inventory of Conspiracy Suspicions (FICS), questionnaires measuring their knowledge, and opinion about vaccines, and sociodemographic data. The results were: the greater the belief in conspiracy theories about vaccines, the lesser the intention to get vaccinated, the vaccine knowledge, and the attitudes towards vaccine investment. Religious, prone to right-wing politics, parents, and older people scored more for FICS than atheists/agnostics, and younger people. From 2019 to 2020 the vaccination intention and vaccination investment did not differ, showing that people did not change their opinion about vaccines regardless of personal experience or the pandemic scenario. The research strengthened the relevance of health education as a milestone for public health and protection from dangerous conspiracy theories.

Vaccination is crucial in reducing the spread of disease and improving overall patient mortality. Limited information exists regarding pharmacist accessibility outside traditional medical settings or impact on older patients' intention to vaccinate. This study aimed to examine patient perceptions regarding pharmacist accessibility and vaccination intention. Researchers used a quantitative research method of older people from Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. A survey was given to community-dwelling older people who attended different vaccine clinics. The survey included 10 questions describing reasons for not receiving vaccines in the past, how likely they are to receive vaccines if administered at community events, and the importance of having easy access to vaccines. For Likert-type items, a 5-point scale was used. The surveys were collected electronically and anonymously from several community events. Aggregate data were analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistics. One hundred seventy-eight responses were collected. The average age of participants was 75 years, and 70.8% were females. Of the respondents, 44.9% preferred to receive vaccines at a community center, 17.4% at the doctor's office, 4.5% at a clinic, and 9.6% at a sporting event like a boxing match. Men were more likely to receive a vaccine at a sporting event, while women were more likely to be interested in receiving a vaccine at a community center ( P < 0.05). Respondents somewhat agreed (median = 4, interquartile range = 3-5) that they do not have transportation to places with vaccines. Age was significantly and negatively correlated with educational attainment ( P < 0.001). However, as participants' ages increased, they were significantly more likely to have a belief that vaccines do not work ( P = 0.011). The study addressed how pharmacists should consider more community outreach events in convenient locations, like community centers, for older people to improve vaccination rates.

Background: The governments of democracies worldwide are relying on the active cooperation of their populations to combat COVID-19. Simultaneously, beliefs in conspiracy theories surrounding the pandemic have flourished. The present article examines the effects of the big five personality traits and conspiracy beliefs on the intention to get vaccinated against COVID-19 in Germany., Methods: This correlational, cross-sectional mediation analysis was conducted using data from a nationwide German household panel (N = 1390)., Results: Openness to experience (β = -.082, p = .004) and neuroticism (β = .112, p < .001) showed direct effects on conspiracy beliefs, while conspiracy beliefs had the strongest effect on vaccination intention (β = -.424, p < .001). Indirect positive effects of openness (β = .035, p = .005) and negative effects of neuroticism (β = -.047, p < .001) on the intention to get vaccinated via conspiracy beliefs were identified, with a mediation in the strict sense only for openness. No direct or total effect of the big five on vaccination intention could be found., Conclusions: The big five personality traits are associated, although indirectly, with the intention to be vaccinated. Compared with similar studies on the effects of the big five on COVID-19-related outcomes, we found slightly higher proportions of explained variance in conspiracy beliefs and significantly higher explained variance in vaccination intention. Background: People with HIV (PWH) have higher risk of COVID-19 mortality. SARS-CoV-2 vaccination is highly effective among PWH, although vaccine hesitancy could limit the population-level impact., Setting: From February 2021 to April 2022, PWH from 8 sites in the Centers for AIDS Research Network of Integrated Clinical Systems completed a vaccine hesitancy instrument as part of routine care., Methods: Participants were defined as vaccine hesitant if they had not received the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and would probably/definitely not receive it. We assessed factors associated with SARS-CoV-2 vaccine hesitancy using logistic regression adjusted for demographics, unsuppressed viral load (VL > 200 copies/mL), month, and time on ART; using inverse probability weighting for survey nonresponse., Results: Overall, 3288 PWH with a median age of 55 were included; 18% were female and 94% were virally suppressed. At the time of survey, 27% reported they had not received the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, and 9% (n = 279) reported vaccine hesitancy. Factors associated with vaccine hesitancy included female sex (adjusted odds ratio [AOR] = 2.3; 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.6-3.2), Black vs. White race (AOR 1.7; 95% CI: 1.2 to 2.4), younger age (AOR 1.4; 95% CI: 1.2 to 1.5), and unsuppressed VL (AOR 1.9; 95% CI: 1.3 to 3.0)., Conclusion: Overall, over one-quarter of PWH in this multisite cohort were unvaccinated for SARS-CoV-2 when interviewed February 21-April 22. Vaccine hesitancy was reported by approximately 9% of PWH and was higher among women, Black PWH, younger PWH, PWH with unsuppressed VL, and those in the South/Midwest. Abstract: This article addresses the challenge of vaccine hesitancy among people with HIV (PWH), emphasizing the need for research on the potential impact of trust and intellectual humility in health care. It underscores the complexity of vaccine acceptance in PWH and the urgency of addressing hesitancy in PWH ahead of a future HIV vaccine. The article identifies trust in health care providers as a critical factor influencing vaccine uptake and proposes that providers who demonstrate intellectual humility-openly recognizing the limits of their knowledge-might enhance patient trust. The role of nurses is spotlighted because of their social positioning in the patient experience. The article advocates for interventions tailored to PWH's unique experiences and attitudes. Objectives: This study aimed to assess current vaccination rates among health care workers at risk for occupational human papillomavirus (HPV) exposure and explore factors that influence decisions about HPV vaccination., Design: Using a mixed-methods design, this study included a questionnaire and qualitative focus groups., Setting: The study took place at an academic medical center., Participants: Participants were 37 health care professionals in occupations at risk for workplace HPV exposure., Main Outcome Measures: The primary qualitative outcome measured was HPV vaccination status. The primary qualitative outcomes assessed were perceptions of occupational HPV exposure risk, protective measures, and HPV vaccination., Results: Most participants were female (86.5%, n = 32) and younger than 35 years (51.4%; n = 19) and therefore would have been eligible to receive the HPV vaccine series as a teenager or young adult. Nearly two-thirds (67.6%; n = 25) of participants had received the HPV vaccine; of those, half were vaccinated as teenagers (52%; n = 13). One-third (n = 4) of those vaccinated as adults reported vaccination due to workplace HPV exposure. Focus groups revealed themes consistent with the Health Belief Model. Most participants recognized their risk of aerosolized HPV exposure in the workplace but felt uneducated about occupational exposure risk and protective measures. Many participants recognized risk of exposure through surgical smoke but perceived that risk was stratified by medical specialty, proximity to surgical field, and personal protective equipment use. Many participants had some level of concern for head and neck lesions with exposure to aerosolized HPV. Most participants recognized the need to protect themselves against workplace HPV exposure. Those who were vaccinated felt that they were better protected against HPV exposure. Almost all participants said that they had not received formal education on workplace HPV exposure risk. Many participants voiced perceived barriers to HPV vaccination., Conclusion: Health care workers encounter the HPV virus in a myriad of fields and procedures. Ensuring effective vaccination is crucial for epidemic control, particularly in voluntary vaccination scenarios. Though highly important for planning voluntary vaccination programs, we lack insights into the effectiveness of veterinarian communication and the impact of disease-specific traits on farmer vaccination intentions. To fill this void, our study compared five diseases affecting Israeli dairy cattle (Botulism, Bovine Ephemeral Fever (BEF), Brucellosis, Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD), and Rabies). Using questionnaires grounded in the theory of planned behavior, we surveyed 340 Israeli dairy farmers to understand their vaccination intentions for each disease.Simultaneously, veterinarians overseeing these farms provided insights into their opinions and perceived influence on vaccination decisions. Results revealed varying levels of farmer vaccination intention, with Botulism showing the highest and BEF the lowest. Social pressure significantly influenced farmers' vaccination intentions, with distinct patterns across diseases. Veterinarian opinions had the highest influence only for LSD, while other factors played crucial roles in different diseases. Intriguingly, there was no correlation between veterinarians' recommendations and farmers' perceptions of these recommendations. In conclusion, the optimization of voluntary vaccination programs necessitates tailoring interventions to the unique characteristics of each disease. Despite widely recognised effectiveness against the spread of COVID-19, vaccine hesitancy persists. This systematic literature review aimed to clarify the definition and the operationalisation of the term 'vaccine hesitancy' and disclose the various psychosocial factors underlying this phenomenon. The results of studies conducted in European countries and in the United States after the vaccines became available were taken into account. The review was conducted according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses statement. Twelve studies met the inclusion criteria and were reviewed. efinitions and measures of vaccine hesitancy differed across the studies, limiting their comparison. Nonetheless, by drawing on theoretical frameworks, we were able to identify several psychosocial variables in determining vaccine hesitancy. Our findings point to the need for a transdisciplinary approach to understanding the antecedents of vaccine hesitancy. Objectives: The aims of this study were to examine vaccine hesitancy for COVID-19 vaccinations, comparing immigrant and non-immigrant older adults (aged ≥60 years), after accounting for group-level and individual-level characteristics, and the interaction between immigrant and socio-economic status., Study Design: This study used a retrospective cohort design., Methods: Analyses were conducted using R version 4.3.2. Logistic regression models had the dependent variables of obtained any COVID-19 vaccinations vs not and obtained all four required COVID-19 vaccinations vs not. The linear regression model's dependent variable was the interval in days between the COVID-19 vaccination availability and the date of obtaining the first COVID-19 vaccination., Results: In the cohort of older adults (n = 35,109), immigrants were less likely than non-immigrants to obtain a single COVID-19 vaccination (P < 0.001) or the full series of required COVID-19 vaccinations (P < 0.001); however, immigrants vs non-immigrants delayed only in obtaining the first vaccination (P < 0.001) but not the remaining required COVID-19 vaccinations. In the linear regression model, a longer interval before obtaining the first COVID-19 vaccination was associated with immigrant status (P < 0.001), lower socio-economic status (SES; P < 0.001), and the interaction between immigrant status and low SES (P < 0.001), while a shorter interval was associated with preventive behaviours of obtaining seasonal influenza (P < 0.001) or pneumococcal (P < 0.001) vaccinations previously., Conclusions: Immigrant status in general, and especially when combined with low SES, is a major risk factor for vaccination hesitancy. Reorienting immigrants to embrace preventive healthcare behaviours is key. Objective: We conducted a systematic review to assess the scope and effectiveness of interventions to improve human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccination in Africa from 2006 to 2021., Study Design: Systematic review., Methods: Four databases (Medline, Embase, CINAHL and PsycINFO) were searched for articles published between 2006 and 2021. Articles were screened and included based on eligibility criteria using DistillerSR (Version 2.35). Data were extracted and reported using a narrative synthesis. A quality assessment was also conducted for each study using validated quality appraisal tools., Results: Out of 7603 articles identified by a systematic search, 18 articles met the inclusion criteria. Included studies comprised impact evaluation and cross-sectional studies published between 2012 and 2021 and conducted in eight African countries namely: Nigeria, Cameroon, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Mali, and Malawi. Study quality ranged from high to low quality. Interventions comprised fifteen educational and three multicomponent interventions. Out of thirteen impact evaluation studies (all educational interventions), twelve studies were effective in increasing HPV vaccine uptake and/or improving participants' knowledge, attitudes, and perceptions about the vaccine. Across five cross-sectional studies (two educational and three multicomponent interventions), HPV vaccine uptake rates ranged from 34% to 93.3%, with a consensus on safety and effectiveness in 67.9%-90.3% of participants post-intervention., Conclusion: Educational and multicomponent interventions have been implemented to improve HPV vaccination in Africa. While educational interventions have proven effective at improving HPV vaccine uptake, a more diverse range of interventions with robust impact evaluation study designs are needed to strengthen the available evidence and improve vaccine uptake., (Copyright © 2024 The Royal Society for Public Health. Objective: Symptoms of anxiety increased early in the COVID-19 pandemic among people with systemic sclerosis (SSc) then returned to pre-pandemic levels, but this was an aggregate finding and did not evaluate whether vaccination may have contributed to reduced anxiety symptom levels. We investigated whether being vaccinated for COVID-19 was associated with reduced anxiety symptoms among people with SSc., Methods: The longitudinal Scleroderma Patient-centered Intervention Network (SPIN) COVID-19 Cohort was launched in April 2020 and included participants from the ongoing SPIN Cohort and external enrollees. Participants completed measures bi-weekly through July 2020, then every 4 weeks afterwards through August 2022 (32 assessments). We used linear mixed models to evaluate longitudinal trends of PROMIS Anxiety 4a v1.0 anxiety domain scores and their association with vaccination., Results: Among 517 participants included in analyses, 489 (95%) were vaccinated by September 2021, and no participants were vaccinated subsequently. Except for briefly at the beginning, when few had received a vaccine, and end, when only 28 participants remained unvaccinated, anxiety symptom trajectories were largely overlapping. Participants who were never vaccinated had higher anxiety symptoms by August 2022, but there were no other differences, and receiving a vaccination did not appear to change anxiety symptom trajectories meaningfully., Conclusion: Vaccination did not appear to influence changes in anxiety symptoms among vulnerable people with SSc during the COVID-19 pandemic. Background: Despite the expansion in human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination recommendations, vaccine uptake and completion remain low among Black individuals. An 8-week Facebook intervention (#HPVvaxtalks) was developed to increase knowledge and awareness of HPV risk factors, risk perceptions, and vaccination intention and uptake. This article details the formative phase of experts' feedback and participants' satisfaction on the components of the #HPVvaxtalks for content useability, acceptability, relevance, and visual appeal to inform further refinements., Method: A convenience sample of 5 experts and 13 young Black adults were invited to provide feedback on #HPVvaxtalks intervention content. The experts reviewed and provided feedback via a survey and open-ended questions. After incorporating suggestions from experts' feedback, 13 participants viewed #HPVvaxtalks posts, took part in a virtual focus group, and completed a survey. Qualitative data were thematically analyzed and integrated with survey results., Results: Experts and participants mean age were 41.9 ± 2.3 and 21.2 ± 1.9 years, respectively. Experts and participants reported positive ratings for intervention posts, including useability, acceptability, relevance, and visual appeal. Data provided areas for improvements of #HPVvaxtalks.    CONCLUSION: Experts indicated strong content validity and participants showed satisfaction with #HPVvaxtalks content. Introduction: This review examines vaccine hesitancy in South Tyrol, Italy, a region characterized by cultural and linguistic diversity. The critical need for vaccination to control infectious diseases contrasts with the region's low vaccination rates, which pose a significant public health challenge., Methods: Based on literature, reports, and studies, we used PubMed, Embase, and Google Scholar to explore vaccine hesitancy in South Tyrol. It emphasizes the analysis of historical, cultural, and socioeconomic factors, and focuses on quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to understand the roots of vaccine hesitancy., Results: In two studies with four reports, mistrust in health policies and institutions, misinformation, and cultural and linguistic barriers were identified as key factors contributing to vaccine hesitancy in South Tyrol. These factors are accentuated by the region's unique sociopolitical landscape, which influences public health policies and vaccination initiatives., Conclusions: These findings highlight the need for public health strategies specifically tailored to South Tyrol. Recommended actions include developing culturally sensitive and multilingual communication campaigns, increasing community involvement, and rebuilding trust in healthcare systems. These approaches are essential for addressing the specific challenges in South Tyrol, thereby improving vaccine uptake and overall public health outcomes.

COVID-19 vaccination reduces the risk of severe disease, in children as well as adults. We studied COVID-19 vaccination coverage among children, parental COVID-19 vaccination intent for their children and determinants of vaccination among children to inform communication strategies. We invited parents of children aged 6 months-11 years in Munich, Germany, to an anonymous online survey between 13.10.2022 and 15.01.2023. Parents reported COVID-19 vaccination status and, for unvaccinated children, vaccination intent per child. We determined vaccination coverage (≥ 1 dose) and parental intent, and subsequently used logistic regression to identify determinants of vaccination, including the 5C psychological antecedents of vaccination (confidence, complacency, constraints, calculation, collective responsibility). In total, 339 parents reported on 591 children. Vaccination coverage was 7% (6/86) amongst 6-months-4-year-olds and 59% (295/498) amongst 5-11-year-olds. For unvaccinated 6-months-4-year-olds, 31% of parents reported high, 13% medium, 56% low vaccination intent; for 5-11-year-olds 8% reported high, 20% medium, 71% low intent. Positive determinants of vaccination were older child age, child belonging to a clinically vulnerable group, as well as parental COVID-19 vaccination, higher education level, country of birth Germany, and high level of trust in official guidelines; a negative determinant was previous vaccination refusal. For 5-11-year-olds, additional positive determinants were higher confidence and lower complacency.    Conclusion: While a substantial proportion of 5-11-year-olds were vaccinated against COVID-19, coverage was low among 6-months-4-year-olds. Parental vaccination intent for unvaccinated children was low. Vaccination communication should take into account parental socio-demographic characteristics and specifically address individual risks and benefits of child vaccination. What is Known: • COVID-19 vaccination lowers severe disease risk in all ages. • Germany recommends vaccination for 5-11-years-olds since December 2021 and for 6 months-4 year-olds since November 2022. What is New: • In Munich, vaccine uptake was high in 5-11-year-olds but parental intent for not yet vaccinated children was low; the opposite was the case for 6-months-4-year-olds; vaccination determinants were eligibility, parental education, birth country and general vaccination hesitancy; psychological antecedents were confidence and complacency. • Tailored interventions should address guidelines, health literacy, cultural sensitivity, and boost confidence in vaccines and institutions while raising awareness of COVID-19 risks for children., (© 2024. Older adults are a high in risk of severe COVID-19 disease outcomes and experience "vaccine hesitancy." Guided by health communication models such as the Reasoned Action Approach and the Extended Parallel Process Model, online surveys designed to inform statewide public health communication efforts were administered in West Virginia, a primarily rural and fully Appalachian state, in Winter 2021 ( n = 272) and Fall 2022 ( n = 248). Adults ages 50+ years ( N = 520) reported attitudes, intentions, and behaviors regarding COVID-19 vaccination and their related patient-provider communication. Vaccine usefulness/safety, perceived effectiveness, and subjective norms predicted behavior while perceived severity, efficacy, and usefulness/safety predicted intention to get a booster, specifically the updated Fall 2022 Omicron (bivalent) booster. Purpose: Examine trust in sources of COVID-19 information and vaccination status., Design: Cross-sectional., Setting: Chicago, Illinois., Subjects: Convenience sample of 538 Black adults surveyed between September 2021 and March 2022., Measures: Trust in sources of COVID-19 information, COVID-19 vaccination., Analysis: Using latent class analysis, we identified classes of trust in sources of COVID-19 information. We considered predictors of class membership using multinomial logistic regression and examined unadjusted and adjusted associations between trust class membership and COVID-19 vaccination while accounting for uncertainty in class assignment., Results: Our analytic sample (n = 522) was predominantly aged 18-34 (52%) and female (71%). Results suggested a four-class solution: (1) low trust, (2) high trust in all sources, (3) high trust in doctor and government, and (4) high trust in doctor, faith leader, and family. Unadjusted odds of vaccination were greater in the high trust in all sources (OR 2.0, 95% CI 1.2-3.2), high trust in doctor and government (OR 2.7, 95% CI 1.4-5.3), and high trust in doctor, faith leader, and family classes (OR 2.1, 95% CI 1.2, 3.9) than the low trust class. We examine the effect of Internet diffusion on the uptake of an important public health intervention: the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. We study England between 2000 and 2011 when Internet diffusion spread rapidly and there was a high profile medical article (falsely) linking the MMR vaccine to autism. OLS estimates suggest Internet diffusion led to an increase in vaccination rates. This result is reversed after allowing for endogeneity of Internet access. The effect of Internet diffusion is sizable. A one standard deviation increase in Internet penetration led to around a 20% decrease in vaccination rates. Localities characterized by higher proportions of high skilled individuals and lower deprivation levels had a larger response to Internet diffusion. Introduction: This study explored the influence of the Theory of Planned Behavior constructs on human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine (HPVV) intentions and uptake among Hispanic parents in South Florida for their children aged 9-21. Method: A descriptive exploratory analysis was conducted using 39 surveys completed by Hispanic parents. These surveys encompassed demographic data and questions about HPVV uptake, intention, attitudes, subjective norms, knowledge, self-efficacy, and awareness. Results: Most participants were uninsured (77%), unemployed (59%), and had low Americanism acculturation (74%). A little over half were aware of the HPVV (54%), yet most had high positive HPVV attitudes (95%) and self-efficacy (85%). HPVV intentions within the year were also high (82%); however, HPVV uptake (45%) and HPVV knowledge (40%) were low at the time of the study. Most parents reported physicians (72%) and nurses/nurse practitioners (59%) as the most influential individuals in their decision-making. A statistically significant relationship between HPVV intention and HPVV attitude (X&#95;Wald^2 (1) = 5.71, p = 0.02., OR = 5.11) and between HPVV uptake and HPVV awareness (X&#95;Wald^2 (1) = 4.63, p = 0.03., OR = 12) were observed. Purpose: Examine possible message topics to promote rural vaccination using psychosocial antecedents of vaccination., Design: Cross-sectional survey administered by Research America, Inc., Setting: West Virginia (WV)., Sample: 756 WV adults via convenience sample (n = 370; ∼2% response rate from online panel of ∼20 000 WV residents), and random digit dial of landlines (n = 174; ∼1% response rate from 18 432 numbers) and cellphones (n = 212; ∼1% response rate from 20 486 numbers)., Measures: Outcome measures included self-reported vaccination intention and behavior. Objective: The study aims to determine the vaccination status of children and evaluate the relationship between vaccination rates, vaccine attitudes, and some parental health practices., Design and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 674 mothers. Data were collected using a survey evaluating vaccine characteristics, some infant health practices, and The Public Attitude Toward Vaccination Scale-Health Belief Model. Chi-square test, independent samples t-test, and logistic regression analysis were used., Results: 80.2% of children were fully vaccinated. The rate of non or under-vaccination was higher in the group that did not regularly undergo follow-up for 0-2-year-old children, did not fully have health screenings, did not use vitamin D and iron supplements, and used alternative medicine. Moreover, the duration of breast milk feeding, the transition to supplementary food, and the duration of vitamin D use in the non-fully vaccinated group were lower than in the fully vaccinated group (p < .05). The increase in maternal education period and severity and benefit attitude scores of vaccine attitude were the factors that decreased the rate of non-fully vaccination. This study examines the effects of message framing (loss vs. gain) and format (narrative vs. expository) on intentions to discuss flu vaccination with a close social referent. We test the effects of video messages using a two-wave web-based randomized experiment among adults in Israel (baseline: N  = 429, one-month follow-up: N  = 241). Exposure to narrative messages was positively associated with intentions to discuss flu vaccination. Exposure to loss-framed messages was positively associated with increased likelihood of discussing vaccination with the referent at follow-up. Effects of message framing and format were moderated by concern for the referent's health. Findings support the use of persuasive messages to motivate interpersonal conversation to promote vaccination. Results contribute to theory on risk-framing by showing that audiences may evaluate loss-framed messages according to their risk perceptions, when greater concern for health risks motivate action, not only for one's own health but for another person's health.

The purpose of this study was to examine college student perceptions related to institutional vaccine mandates. We utilized qualitative data ( n = 2,212) from five open-ended questions in a cross-sectional study of students enrolled or intending to enroll in an institute of higher education in California in fall 2021. Data were collected between June and August 2021. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze student beliefs, and four themes were developed from the data: (1) Polarizing views and language, (2) deciding who to trust, (3) conveying rights and risk, and (4) staying focused on education. The themes represented vaccinated and nonvaccinated student perspectives, capturing views about trust, rights, and risk. Many responses were polarizing and included language that was emotional and political. Despite the range of responses, most students expressed appreciation and approval of the vaccination mandate on college campuses. Findings illustrate the important contributions of qualitative research and suggest opportunities for public health practitioners to lead and engage in critical dialogue about science and public health practices as we aim to promote public perceptions of vaccination programs and health promotion practice.

There are both theoretical accounts and empirical evidence for the fact that, in health communication, narratives (story telling) may have a persuasive advantage when compared with information (the provision of facts). The dominant explanation for this potential advantage is that narratives inhibit people's resistance to persuasion, particularly in the form of counterarguing. Evidence in this area to date has most often been gathered through lab or field experiments. In the current study we took a novel approach, gathering our data from naturally-occurring, non-experimental and organically evolving online interactions about vaccinations. We focus on five threads from the parenting forum Mumsnet Talk that centered on indecision about the HPV vaccination. Our analysis revealed that narratives and information were used by posters in similar quantities as a means of providing vaccination-related advice. We also found similar frequencies of direct engagement with both narratives and information. However, our findings showed that narratives resulted in a significantly higher proportion of posts exhibiting supportive engagement, whereas information resulted in posts exhibiting a significantly higher proportion of challenges, including counterarguing and other manifestations of posters' resistance to persuasion. The proportions of supportive versus challenging engagement also varied depending on the topic and vaccine stance of narratives. Notwithstanding contextual explanations for these patterns, our findings, based on this original approach of using naturalistic data, provide a novel kind of evidence for the potential of narratives to inhibit counterarguing in authentic health-related discourse.

Background: With the aim to optimize communication during HPV vaccination campaigns in France, we elicited parental preferences around HPV vaccination., Methods: We conducted a single-profile discrete choice experiment (DCE) among parents of 11- to 14-year-old middle-school pupils, who completed an anonymous, self-administered, internet-based questionnaire during 2020-2021. The DCE comprised five attributes (vaccine-preventable disease, justification of optimal age, information on safety, indirect protection and coverage) of vaccination against an unnamed disease that were presented to respondents in ten choice tasks, or scenarios. We use fixed effect logit models to estimate attribute weights on theoretical vaccine acceptance, and random effect linear regression to estimate attribute coefficients on vaccine eagerness (decision and decision certainty). We estimated marginal effects of attributes on expected vaccine acceptance., Results: Vaccination scenarios were accepted by 55.6-89.2% of the 1291 participants. The largest marginal effects on expected vaccine acceptance in the full sample arose from prevention of cancer versus genital warts (+ 11.3 percentage points); from a "severe side effect suspicion that was not scientifically confirmed" versus a statement about "more benefits than risks" (+ 8.9 percentage points), and information on 80% vaccine coverage in neighbouring countries versus on "insufficient coverage" (+ 4.2 percentage points). Explaining the early age of vaccination by sexual debut had a strong negative impact among French monolingual parents with lower education level (vs age-independent, OR 0.48, 95% CI 0.27-0.86), but not other socio-economic groups. After removing low-quality responses (unvaried certainty and short questionnaire completion), among serial non-demanders with children not vaccinated against HPV, only disease elimination impacted vaccine eagerness positively (coefficient 0.54, 0.06-1.02)., Discussion: Using DCEs to elicit parents' preferences around communication messages, notably on cancer prevention, vaccine coverage and information about vaccine safety, could help to optimize HPV vaccination promotion efforts., (© 2024. Objectives: to investigate the factors influencing vaccine hesitancy against COVID-19 among Brazilians., Methods: this research employed an observational and analytical approach, utilizing a web-based survey. Data collection took place in 2020, and data analysis was conducted using structural equation modeling., Results: the prevalence of vaccine hesitancy was found to be 27.5% (1182 individuals). There is a negative correlation between belief in conspiracy theories and social influence. Among the various beliefs associated with vaccination intentions, only conspiracy beliefs exhibited significant predictive value. Thus, the findings suggest that personal beliefs significantly impact hesitancy towards vaccination, and also indicate that trust in governmental bodies is inversely related to hesitancy., Conclusions: vaccine hesitancy emerges as a multifaceted phenomenon influenced by a complex array of factors, including personal beliefs, trust in governmental bodies, and healthcare systems.

Introduction: Medical misinformation, which contributes to vaccine hesitancy, poses challenges to health professionals. Health professions students, while capable of addressing and advocating for vaccination, may lack the confidence to engage with vaccine-hesitant individuals influenced by medical misinformation., Methods: An interprofessional in-person simulation activity (90 minutes) using standardized patients was developed and instituted for students in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, and public health programs. Student volunteers were recruited from classes approximately halfway through their respective degree programs (i.e., second or third year of a 4-year program). Online simulation was used as a method to prepare for in-person simulation. Impact on students was assessed primarily through a postprogram student self-assessment., Results: A total of 220 students participated in the program; 206 (94%) had paired data available to analyze. Following program participation, self-assessed abilities increased from pre to post, from 2.8 out of 5 (good) to 3.9 out of 5 (very good; p < .001). Ninety-eight percent of students felt that their ability to address medical misinformation was somewhat/much better after the activity, compared to before, and that their ability to address vaccine hesitancy was somewhat/much better. The overall program was rated highly, with mean scores for each program evaluation item >4 out of 5 (very good)., Discussion: An interprofessional cohort of students demonstrated improvement in self-assessed skills to participate in a conversation with an individual with hesitancy to receive vaccines and/or beliefs informed by misinformation. Internally displaced persons (IDPs) are at high risk for COVID-19 transmission because of congested and unsanitary living conditions. COVID-19 vaccination is essential to build population immunity and prevent severe disease among this population. We determined the prevalence and factors associated with intention to accept COVID-19 vaccine among IDPs in Northeast Nigeria. This cross-sectional study, conducted during July-December 2022, included 1,537 unvaccinated IDPs from 18 IDPs camps. We performed a complex sample survey analysis and described participants' characteristics and vaccination intention with weighted descriptive statistics. We fitted weighted logistic regression models and computed adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals to identify factors associated with intention to accept COVID-19 vaccine. Of 1,537 IDPs, 55.4% were 18-39 years old, 82.6% were females, and 88.6% had no formal education. Among them, 63.5% (95% CI: 59.0-68.1) expressed intention to accept COVID-19 vaccine. Among the IDPs who intended to reject vaccine, 42.8% provided no reason, 35.3% had COVID-19 misconceptions, 9.5% reported vaccine safety concerns, and 7.4% felt no need. IDPs who perceived COVID-19 as severe (Adjusted Odds Ratio (AOR) = 2.31, [95% CI: 1.35-3.96]), perceived COVID-19 vaccine as effective (AOR = 4.28, [95% CI: 2.46-7.44]) and resided in official camps (AOR = 3.29, [95% CI: 1.94-5.56]) were more likely to accept COVID-19 vaccine. However, IDPs who resided 2 kilometers or farther from the nearest health facility (AOR = 0.34, [95% CI: 0.20-0.58]) were less likely to accept vaccine. Intention to accept COVID-19 vaccine among the IDPs was suboptimal. To improve vaccination acceptance among this population, health education and risk communication should be intensified to counter misinformation, strengthen vaccine confidence, and shape perception of COVID-19 severity, focusing on IDPs in unofficial camps. Background: Identifying factors associated with vaccine uptake among health care workers (HCWs) remains crucial to generating evidence aimed at guiding national COVID-19 vaccination and future infectious disease outbreak strategies. This study aimed to elucidate these factors, focusing on the interplay between socio-demographic, health, knowledge, beliefs and attitudinal indicators., Methods: This was a cross-sectional online survey administered to HCWs across South Africa between August and October 2022. Bivariate and Multivariate logistic regressions identified associations between COVID-19 vaccine uptake and demographics, occupational characteristics, general knowledge of and attitudes towards vaccination, perceived COVID-19 risk and perceived importance of COVID-19 vaccine attributes., Results: Analysis revealed high vaccine uptake rates among the sample of 5564 HCWs, with 87.6% of the sample vaccinated at the time of the study. Demographic measures significantly associated with vaccine uptake were age (P-value = 0.001), race (P-value = 0.021), religion (P-value = 0.004), and having a chronic illness (P-value <0.001). Belief and attitude measures significantly associated with vaccine uptake included: need for vaccines (P-value <0.001), perceived risk of infection (P-value = 0.001), perceived patient risk (P-value <0.001), and perceived vaccine knowledge (P-value <0.001). Multivariate analysis revealed that HCWs who listed their religion as African Spirituality (OR = 0.4; 95% CI = 0.2-0.7; P-value = 0.002) and had any occupation other than nurse or doctor (OR = 0.6; 95% CI = 0.4-0.8; P-value <0.001), were less likely to vaccinate, while HCWs who had a chronic condition (OR = 1.5; 95% CI = 1.2-2.0; P-value <0.001) were more likely to have been vaccinated., Conclusion: This study provides useful insights into the factors associated with and possibly driving COVID-19 vaccine uptake among HCWs in South Africa. Background: Major barriers to addressing SARS-CoV-2 vaccine hesitancy include limited knowledge of what causes delay/refusal of SARS-CoV-2 vaccination and limited ability to predict who will remain unvaccinated over significant time periods despite vaccine availability. The present study begins to address these barriers by developing a machine learning model that prospectively predicts who will persist in not vaccinating against SARS-CoV-2., Method: Unvaccinated individuals (n = 325) who completed a baseline survey were followed over the six-month period when vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 were first widely available (April-October 2021). A random forest model was used to predict who would remain unvaccinated against SARS-CoV-2 from their baseline measures, including demographic information (e.g., age), medical history (e.g., of influenza vaccination), Health-Belief Model constructs (e.g., perceived vaccine dangerousness), conspiracist ideation, and task-based metrics of vulnerability to conspiracist ideation (e.g., tendency toward illusory pattern perception)., Results: The resulting model significantly predicted vaccination status (AUC-PR = 0.77, 95%CI [0.56 0.90]). At the optimal probability threshold determined by the Generalized Threshold Shifting Protocol, the model was moderately precise (0.83) when identifying individuals who remained unvaccinated (n = 80), and had a very low rate (0.04) of false-positives (incorrectly suggesting that individuals remained unvaccinated). Permutational importance tests suggested that baseline SARS-CoV-2 vaccine intentions conveyed the most information about future SARS-CoV-2 vaccination status. Conspiracist ideation was the second most informative predictor, suggesting that misinformation influences vaccination behavior. Other important predictors included perceived vaccine dangerousness, as expected under the Health Belief Model, and influenza vaccination history., Conclusions: The model we developed can accurately and prospectively identify individuals who remain unvaccinated against SARS-CoV-2. It could therefore facilitate empirically-informed allocation of interventions that encourage vaccine uptake. Objective: Given their vulnerable health status and resource constraints, the perspectives of women with criminal-legal involvement (WCLI) are important but not usually represented in the literature on vaccine interest and vaccine hesitancy. This study aims to examine how the COVID-19 pandemic and vaccine affected the influenza vaccine uptake among WCLI., Methods: A cross-sectional secondary analysis was conducted using data collected from the Tri-City study, which followed WCLI in three U.S. cities from 2019 to 2023. We mapped the distribution of influenza vaccine uptake in 2019-2023 and developed a composite outcome that reflected participants' patterns of Y/N to influenza vaccine, which were categorized into four groups: Influenza Vaccine Supportive, Influenza Vaccine Adaptive, Influenza Vaccine Discontinued, and Influenza Vaccine Resistant., Results: Out of 507 people: 23.7% were Supportive, 8.5% Adaptive, 15.2% Discontinued and 38.3% Resistant. People who received the COVID vaccine had significantly lower odds of being identified as Discontinued (OR = 0.42, 95%CI = 0.20-0.87, p = .020) and Resistant (OR = 0.23, 95%CI = 0.13-0.43, p < .001), compared to the Supportive group. Mistrust toward COVID-19-related information was a significant independent predictor of being Adaptive (OR = 1.59, 95%CI = 1.08-2.35, p = .019), Discontinued (OR = 1.61, 95%CI = 1.15-2.25, p = .006), and Resistant (OR = 1.54, 95%CI = 1.19-2.00, p < .001) relative to Supportive., Conclusions: Vaccine hesitancy poses significant challenges to public health efforts, with apparent dampening effect across vaccines. Background: In the United States, nearly half of pediatricians dismiss or refuse to accept families that withhold consent from the administration of childhood vaccines. Since 2016, the American Academy of Pediatrics has called patient dismissal in these cases "an acceptable option." Clinician dismissal and non-acceptance pose a problem to public health because they cluster under-vaccinated children in the practices that remain willing to treat such children, and they decrease access to routine care for children who cannot find practices willing to accept or retain them. This paper reports the emergence of a new consciousness about dismissal and non-acceptance policies in the leadership of a local health department (LHD) of a populous metropolitan county., Objectives: To understand the prevalence and diversity of patient dismissal within Oakland County, Michigan and to measure shifts in clinicians' attitudes about dismissal following an educational intervention., Methods: A preliminary community survey was distributed to immunizing providers during April 2023 with 61 responses measuring the frequency and reasoning for dismissal policies. The results of the survey were used to inform a brief, evidence-backed educational intervention which was delivered in June 2023 to 82 participants from local pediatric medical offices., Results: The initial survey was completed by 61 immunizing providers, representing an estimated 37% of vaccinating practices in the county. Half said their practice "always" or "sometimes" dismisses patients due to vaccine refusal. Background: Influenza vaccines are effective in decreasing hospitalizations and mortality related to influenza and its complications. However, the Vaccine Coverage Rate of influenza remains low and multifaceted efforts are required to improve it. The aim of this study was to assess the impact on influenza vaccine perception using a digital tool among outpatients and health care workers (HCWs)., Methods: A study was performed among outpatients and the HCWs of 23 hospital departments from 4 hospitals affiliated to Lyon university Hospitals (France), between October 2022 and February 2023. By scanning QR (Quick Response) codes, displayed on posters for patients, their companions, as well as in the letters sent to HCWs, users accessed anonymously to a web-application (ELEFIGHT®), which provided information on influenza and invited them to initiate a discussion on influenza prevention with their physicians during the consultation. Patients were also invited to complete a questionnaire regarding their perception of influenza vaccination before and after reading the information on ELEFIGHT®. The retention rate (RR = proportion of people who remain on the page for >2 s), the conversion rate (CR = proportion of people who click on the "Call-To-Action" button) and the absolute variation (difference in the perception before/after) and relative variation (absolute change as a percentage of the initial perception) in perception regarding influenza vaccination before and after consulting the application were calculated., Results: 3791 scans were performed by 3298 patients and/or their companions with a RR of 52% and a CR of 55.1% and 253 scans by 221 HCWs with a RR of 71.2% and a CR of 115.3%. Participants spent an average of 47 s on the application. The questionnaire on influenza vaccination perception was completed by 1533 participants (46.5%); 1390 (90.7%) maintained the same position (neutral, favorable or unfavorable) on this vaccination before and after consulting the application. The relative variations in favor of vaccination were + 7.2% (unfavorable then favorable) and + 19.8% (neutral then favorable)., Conclusion: This study suggests that a facilitated direct access to medical information through QR codes disseminated in health settings can help nudge people to foster their awareness of influenza and its prevention. Future deployments in a similar context or to other populations could be envisaged. Background: Vaccine reluctance is both a complex and context-specific issue and is the result of many complicating factors that need to be addressed more systematically. In Europe, several country-based ad-hoc studies have been carried out on COVID-19 vaccines/vaccination and vaccine reluctance but a comprehensive overview covering all 27 European Union (EU27) countries is lacking. Such study can help understand vaccine reluctance in the overall EU as well as examine differences between individual countries., Methods: This study relies on data from Flash Eurobarometer 505, covering all 27 European Union member states; the sample size is N=26,641. It takes a fuzzy clustering approach to construct typologies of attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccination, and subsequently develops an "Index of Attitudes" (IA) which accounts for individual positioning of EU citizens. The data analysis is based on grade of membership (GoM) model which is a reliable statistical tool to tackle heterogeneous populations., Results: The output of GoM model unveiled a hierarchical fuzzy 3-partition corresponding to three clearly identified typologies of feelings towards COVID-19 vaccination: Typology 1 entails favourable feelings while moderate-favourable feelings describe the Typology 2. Finally, Tipology 3 encompasses the scepticism towards COVID-19 vaccines. The IA, which quantifies the sentiment of European citizens towards COVID-19 vaccination in a 0-1 scale, reveals that although EU27 citizens overall are not against COVID-19 vaccination (index mean =0.44) some, mostly in eastern countries, deviate from this prevailing trend., Conclusion: Distrust in the safety and efficacy of all kinds of vaccines, as well as a generalised distrust in European and national institutions, are associated with the reluctance in relation towards COVID-19 vaccination. However, this reluctance varies across countries. The outcomes of our study not only inform national government and health care agents but also help define communication strategies to reach the most reluctant citizens. Background: Despite the availability of effective HPV vaccines, their acceptance in Islamic countries is often influenced by religious beliefs, practices, and misconceptions., Objective: This review aimed to identify the current literature on the religious beliefs and any misconceptions toward HPV vaccine acceptance within the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries., Method: Using key terms, a systematic search in MEDLINE/PubMed, Embase, and CINAHL yielded 23 studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The scope of this review included all research articles published in English until October 31, 2023. A form based on the aim of the study was developed and used to extract the data., Results: The review highlights the complexity of the relationship between religious beliefs and HPV vaccine uptake. The findings reveal significant objections among a number of Muslims. Some of them believe vaccines lead to infertility and sexual promiscuity, defy religious norms, are a sneaky way to inject good Muslims with haram ingredients, and are an abandonment of righteous principles in general., Conclusions: Vaccine hesitancy is a result of doubts regarding the vaccine's safety, necessity, and compatibility with religious beliefs. Background: Vaccination uptake is a complex behavior, influenced by numerous factors. Behavioral science theories are commonly used to explain the psychosocial determinants of an individual's health behavior. This study examined the behavioural, cognitive, and emotional determinants of COVID-19 vaccination intention based on well-established theoretical models: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Capability, Opportunity, Motivation, and Behaviour (COM-B) and the Health Belief Model (HBM). Additionally, it examined the mediating role of institutional trust in the relationship between determinants of these models and vaccination intentions., Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted from January to May 2022, where university students in Cyprus completed an online survey., Results: A total of 484 university students completed the online survey, with 23.8% reporting being vaccinated with fewer than three vaccination doses and/or no intention to vaccinate further. Hierarchical logistic regression analysis showed that higher scores in institutional trust, perceived severity, motivation, physical and psychological capability were significantly associated with higher odds of intending to vaccinate. Higher psychological flexibility and not being infected with COVID-19 were also associated with higher odds of vaccination intention, but not in the final model when all determinants were included. Additionally, significant indirect effects of psychological and physical capability, motivation and perceived severity on vaccination intention were found to be mediated by institutional trust., Conclusions: When tackling COVID-19 vaccination hesitancy, behavioural, cognitive, and emotional aspects should be considered. Stakeholders and policymakers are advised to implement targeted vaccination programs in young people while at the same time building trust and improving their capabilities and motivation towards getting vaccinated., (© 2024.
