Current numerical research on snow accumulation on bogies often simplifies train models as 1.5 cars or 3 cars, and there is less research on long marshalling trains with real bogies. In this article, based on the Euler–Lagrange method, the airflow structure and snow accumulation characteristics in the bogie area of an 8-car high-speed train (HST) are studied by numerical simulation. The results show that the airflow velocity and snow distribution concentration inside the bogie cabin vary along the flow direction. The downstream bogie cabin has a lower airflow speed, spatial snow particle concentration, and components snow accumulation. Because of the bogie cabin cover structure, the main airflow direction above the first and second bogie cabin is different, resulting in higher snow concentration and range on the windward side of the first bogie. There is a significant difference in snow accumulation characteristics between powered and nonpowered bogies. The powered bogie gearbox is directly affected by the airflow carrying snow particles, leading to severe snow accumulation on the windward side. This study provides a research foundation and engineering guidance for the snow protection strategy of HST bogies and is important for improving the comfort and safety of HSTs on snow-covered rails. AbstractTwo types of happiness (eudaimonia and hedonia) could potentially be leveraged to trigger pro-environmental tourist behaviour while preserving or even enhancing guest satisfaction. Hedonia (sensory/immediate pleasure) is commonly considered a barrier to pro-environmental behaviour on vacation, while eudaimonia (fulfilment/growth) is generally thought to prompt pro-environmental behaviour. Whether, and in what way, hedonia and eudaimonia are associated with pro-environmental behaviour in tourism, remains empirically untested. This study assesses—for the first time—the empirical relationship of hedonia and eudaimonia with stated pro-environmental behaviour in both an imagined home and vacation context to determine tourism-specific context dependence. Eudaimonia emerges as being highly related to tourist pro-environmental behaviour, suggesting a promising leverage point for pro-environmental behaviour change interventions. Contrary to popular belief, there is no empirical evidence of hedonia being associated with tourist pro-environmental behaviour, suggesting it may not represent a barrier to such behaviour. Degradation of natural and semi‐natural habitats is often initiated and facilitated by expansions in anthropogenic infrastructures. Identifying and reducing the impact of anthropogenic structures on the wildlife that these habitats support is vital for biodiversity conservation. In Iceland, the number of summer houses has increased over the past two decades, from ~10 000 to 15 000, and >7000 additional plots for summer house construction have been approved. Most of this housing infrastructure development is in the Icelandic lowlands, which support internationally important populations of several ground‐nesting bird species. To explore the effects of summer house infrastructure on the distribution of ground‐nesting birds, we conducted surveys at 292 points within 71 sites with varying density of houses and associated infrastructure (tracks, decking, etc). Significant reductions in abundance with increasing housing density occurred in five (Golden Plover (Pluvialis apricaria), Black‐tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa), Redshank (Tringa totanus), Whimbrel (Numenius phaeopus) and Meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis)) of the seven study species, while one species (Snipe (Gallinago gallinago)) showed no change and one (Redwing (Turdus iliacus)) increased. The differences in abundance between plots with no houses and plots with high house densities (>0.5 houses ha−1) ranged from 34 to 95%, despite the housing infrastructure covering only ~6% of the area of these plots. These findings suggest that even relatively low densities of anthropogenic structures in natural or semi‐natural areas can have substantial impacts on wildlife in the surrounding areas and highlight the urgent need for effective planning regulations to limit the expansion of anthropogenic structures into currently undisturbed habitats, particularly in areas of high biodiversity value. Understanding how large carnivores utilize space is crucial for management planning in human-dominated landscape and enhances the accuracy of population size estimates. However, Eurasian lynx display a large inter-population variation in the size of home ranges across their European range which makes extrapolation to broader areas of a species distribution problematic. This study evaluates variations in home range size for 35 Eurasian lynx in the Western Carpathians during 2011–2022 based on GPS telemetry and explains how intrinsic and environmental factors shape lynx spatial behaviour when facing anthropogenic pressure. The average annual home range size of lynx ranged from 283 (± 42 SE) to 360 (± 60 SE) km2 for males and from 148 (± 50 SE) to 190 (± 70 SE) km2 for females, depending on home range estimator (95% MCP, KDE and AKDE). Females with kittens had smaller annual and summer home ranges compared to non-reproducing females and subadults had smaller home ranges compared to adults. Lynx home range size was explained by availability of roe deer, except for summer, when alternative prey was likely available. We also found clear evidence of human-induced changes in lynx home range size, in particular, forest cover significantly decreased the home range size of male lynx during summer while road density led to an expansion of both annual and summer lynx home ranges. Lynx exhibited consistent fidelity to their home ranges throughout consecutive seasons, showing no seasonal variations. Strong territoriality was observed among competing males maintaining relatively low home range overlaps and considerable distances between centres of activity. The most pronounced tendency for association was observed between males and females, maintaining relatively close proximity year-round. The insights into lynx spatial requirements provided by our study will greatly enhance the accuracy of population size estimates and effectiveness of mitigation measures across the Western Carpathians. To be able to carry out a high-quality analysis of the operation and design of elevator systems with a driving pulley, it is necessary to determine the size of the losses that occur in the drive mechanism and elevator guide rails. The paper defines an experimental procedure for determining the losses and the efficiency coefficient of elevator facilities depending on the relative load of the cabin in operational conditions. The experiment was carried out on a passenger elevator with a rated load of 320 kg and a lifting height of 28 m. An analysis of the resistance, i.e., the source of power losses in vertical lifting devices, was performed, the most significant of which occur and are especially pronounced in worm gear reducers and on the guiding system of the cabin and counterweight, where the type of guiding elements also has an influence. A particular problem is expressed due to the changing state of the contact surfaces (between the guide rails and the guide shoes) during exploitation and the eccentric loading of the cabin. Adding occupants to an enclosed space often leads to perceptible changes in the sound field and, therefore, speech intelligibility; however, this issue has not yet been examined in automotive cabins. This study investigated the effect of occupants in an automotive cabin on SI. Binaural room impulse responses (BRIRs) were measured in an automotive cabin with an artificial mouth and dummy head under different speaker–listener position configurations and occupancy modes. Based on the measured BRIRs, the speech transmission index (STI) was determined, and subjective speech–reception thresholds (SRTs) in Mandarin Chinese were assessed. The results indicate that speech intelligibility mostly decreased slightly after adding additional occupants. In most cases, the occupants did not significantly affect speech intelligibility, with STI variations of no more than the just-noticeable difference and SRT variation within 1 dB. When the listener was in the back-right seat, the effect of the occupants on speech intelligibility could not be ignored, with STI variations of up to 0.07 and an SRT variation of 2 dB under different occupancy modes. In addition, the influence of front-row passengers on the speech intelligibility of rear-row listeners was extremely small, and vice versa. To investigate the quasistatic pressure load characteristics of an explosion in a confined cabin in a water mist environment, explosion tests were conducted under different explosive and water mist masses. The concentration of water mist, droplet diameter, and quasistatic pressure inside the cabin were measured. On the basis of the theoretical model of quasistatic pressure in adiabatic ideal gas cabins, a theoretical model of the quasistatic pressure in a confined cabin in a water mist environment was established. On the basis of experimental data and theoretical models, an empirical formula was proposed for the peak quasistatic pressure of implosion in a water mist environment. A model for a cabin explosion in a water mist environment was established, and the load characteristics of a cabin explosion under high water mist concentrations were analyzed. BackgroundMethodsResultsIn studies and reports conducted on online sexual exploitation and abuse of children (OSAEC), identified gaps include understanding programmes and services for victim-survivors. In the Philippines, care services consist of a blend of programmes specifically tailored for OSAEC and more generalised therapies for trauma. However, there is a lack of documentation regarding the variety of programmes available and the experiences of service providers during implementation. This qualitative study aims to provide a comprehensive description and critical analysis of these existing programmes and services.Twenty-two in-depth interviews were conducted with key informants from selected government agencies and non-government organisations involved in providing services for the case management of victim-survivors of OSAEC in identified hotspots.A thematic analysis of the interviews revealed that a range of programmes and services are offered to address the needs of the survivors in various aspects of their lives, encompassing psychological, medical, educational, spiritual, and even the recreation of home life. A trauma-informed approach was commonly employed, with care often tailored based on age and gender. Challenges and facilitating factors in providing care were also identified, including limited evaluation of existing programmes and services. The findings carry implications for the ongoing implementation of these programmes, the development of new services and programmes, and the formulation of further policies and laws addressing OSAEC and broader issues concerning child protection and wellbeing. The present study investigated the transmission of exhaled particles generated by coughing inside a car cabin, considering eleven different window opening configurations. The results indicated that particle dispersion and removal were mainly affected by the airflow, which was largely determined by the window opening configurations. Notably, efficient ventilation and a large number of open windows did not necessarily result in lower infection risk. Given the complex structure and formation of intricate airflow patterns within the cabin, airborne particles could spread throughout the cabin and deposit on the interior walls. As particles tended to escape or deposit rapidly within the first 10 s, precautionary measures were necessary during this time frame following a passenger's coughing activity. Furthermore, closing the window adjacent to the driver effectively reduced the proportion of exhaled particles passing through the driver's breathing zone due to the rear-in and front-out airflow pattern, thus mitigating the risk of infection. During the water entry process of a trans-domain morphing aircraft, significant impact forces are generated when the aircraft hits the water surface, which will potentially cause the deformation of the cabin structure and might damage the structure or onboard devices. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the water entry process of the cabin structure. This paper analyses changes in fluid loads and the corresponding structural responses during the water entry process. Firstly, the numerical model is established for the water entry process and the modeling method is validated by comparing the results to the experimental data. An empirical formula is developed to correlate the impact loads with the water entry velocities. Then, fluid–structure interaction analysis of the water entry process is performed using a two-way coupling approach. The relationship between structural deformation and the water entry process is then investigated. The results are compared with those without considering the structural deformation. The empirical formula is then modified to reflect the effects of the deformation. The relative rotation angle between two cabins should be automatically and precisely obtained during automated assembly processes for spacecraft and aircraft. This paper introduces a method to solve this problem based on distributed vision, where two groups of cameras are employed to take images of mating features, such as dowel pins and holes, in oblique directions. Then, the relative rotation between the mating flanges of two cabins is calculated. The key point is the registration of the distributed cameras; thus, a simple and practical registration process is designed. It is assumed that there are rigid and scaling transformations among the world coordinate systems (WCS) of each camera. Therefore, the rigid-correct and scaling-correct matrices are adopted to register the cameras. An auxiliary registration device with known features is designed and moved in the cameras' field of view (FOV) to obtain the matrix parameters so that each camera acquires traces of every feature. The parameters can be solved using a genetic algorithm based on the known geometric relationships between the trajectories on the registration devices. With more leisure time in the early to mid-twentieth century, more people in industrialized countries took up hobbies. One hobby—woodworking—became a favorite among men, especially homeowners. Beyond the familiar "do-it-yourselfers" there was an audience eager to learn about woodworking, and magazine publishers encouraged them to acquire new skills and home machinery. American publishers led the way, but workshop converts in English-speaking countries like Canada and the United Kingdom got the magazines and the message. The promise of creative leisure at home did not democratize the hobby. Monthly features and awards praising accomplished amateurs did not challenge social and economic norms but defined leisure success in conventional terms. Those with the income and space to maintain a hobby served as models for others whose circumstances were less ideal. This study compares the characteristics of Chinese and Western island vacation experience. Social network analysis was performed with 30 Chinese travel notes and 30 English travel notes, respectively. The results include: (1) The density and centralization of the Chinese island vacation experience network are lower than those of their Western counterparts; (2) Natural resources, tourism services, and recreational activities are the key dimensions of Chinese and Western island vacation experience, and seven common core experience elements exist; (3) The combination of "seascape-wild animals and plants-people" is preferred by both Chinese and Western tourists. Coronaviruses being capable of spreading through droplet contamination have raised significant concerns regarding high-capacity public rail transport, such as the metro. Within a rapidly moving railcar cabin, the internal airflow lags behind the bulkhead, generating internally induced airflow that accelerates droplet dispersion within a non-inertial reference system. This study investigates the impact of acceleration on the diffusion of cough droplets of varying sizes using computational fluid dynamics. The modified k–ε equation in ANSYS® Fluent was utilized to simulate droplet diffusion under different body orientations by adjusting the inertial force correction source term. Results indicate that droplets in the middle size range (50–175 μm) are primarily influenced by inertial forces, whereas smaller droplets (3.5–20 μm) are predominantly controlled by air drag forces. In recent studies of housing financialisation, a "financial paradox" has been identified in which owner-occupied houses are simultaneously places of ontological security and financial investment. This paradox influences the way owner-occupiers interpret their primary and holiday houses, particularly if the latter are located in sought after high amenity locations. In this paper, we argue that, faced with rapidly increasing residential property prices, many long-term owners reluctantly reconceptualise their understanding of their holiday house as both a recreational and financial asset. Our study uses in-depth interviews with owners of holiday houses on Waiheke Island, Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand to identify how they are interpreting and managing the normalisation of this paradox. The island is historically popular for holiday houses and is currently experiencing substantial property price increases. Academic literature has analysed the effects of renting vacation homes in recent years from the perspective of large cities. This paper aims to test whether these effects also occur in smaller tourist cities. For this purpose, the case of San Sebastian (Spain), a medium sized tourist city. We find that a one unit increase per 100 housing units in Airbnb listings leads to a citywide average monthly advertised rent of €1,284.20, an increase of 49.45€, on average. Automakers are adding back mechanical knobs to modern car cabins to address concerns about the difficulty of adjusting vehicle setting controls through the touchscreen interface. Passive capacitive knobs attached to touchscreens are a great solution as they provide a seamless interface while using the same capacitive sensors that sense finger touches. Existing knobs rely on capacitive coupling to a user's hand, making it difficult to support gloved hands. This work is devoted to the study of gas-dynamic processes in the operation of climate control systems in the cabins of vehicles (HVAC), focusing on pressure values. This research examines the issue of assessing the required values of air overpressure inside the locomotive cabin, which is necessary to prevent gas exchange between the interior of the cabin and the outside air through leaks in the cabin, including protection against the penetration of harmful substances. The pressure boost in the cabin depends, among other things, on the external air pressure on the locomotive body, the power of the climate system fan, and the ratio of the input and output deflectors. To determine the external air pressure, the problem of train movement in a wind tunnel is considered, the internal and external fluids domain is considered, and the air pressure on the cabin skin is determined using numerical methods CFD based on the Navier–Stokes equations, depending on the speed of movement. The finite-volume modeling package Ansys CFD (Fluent) was used as an implementation. The values of excess internal pressure, which ensures the operation of the climate system under different operating modes, were studied numerically and on the basis of an approximate applied formula. In particular, studies were carried out depending on the speed and movement of transport, on the airflow of the climate system, and on the ratio of the areas of input and output parameters. During a numerical experiment, it was found that for a train speed of 100 km/h, the required excess pressure is 560 kPa, and the most energy-efficient way to increase pressure is to regulate the area of the outlet valves. The following research investigated the desire of urban Romanians to build a secondary residence in rural areas. The aim of the study was to gain a deeper understanding of the motivations and significance behind such a project, which does not seem to align with the dominant economic rationale. Drawing from the framework used to discuss secondary homes in the global West, the research highlighted a distinct Romanian pattern in these types of projects, where economic efficiency is, at best, secondary. In this context, "vacation homes" serve as secure retreats for the time when individuals exit active economic life. This type of project appears to be almost exclusively associated with the male gender and presents a specific ideal form that is remarkably similar among all interviewees: a relatively small, self-sufficient residence surrounded by a generous yard, located in a pre-mountainous area near a village, with a forest and water nearby. Simultaneously, women also seem to have a shared image of ideal living, but it is markedly different from that of men. The source of these ideas about ideal living is difficult to pinpoint, with the ideal home emerging as an asocial space, adjacent to society, yet not necessarily incorporating its current values or norms—the most likely candidate here being the grand narratives of Indo-European culture, present as a deep-set framework of values and beliefs for the Euro-Atlantic region. A large number of people in China still live in rural villages. The indoor environment of these rural dwellings directly affects the quality of life of the occupants. Nevertheless, constrained by the quality of dwelling construction, rural buildings have poorer indoor environments and, at the same time, have a higher operating energy consumption. However, inadequate attention has been given to the summer thermal environment in cold regions. This work has been carried out around the thermal environment of rural residences in cold regions during summer. Field measurements, questionnaires, and data analysis were used in this study. We recorded the indoor and outdoor thermal environment parameters on a typical summer day in the Linyi rural area. Moreover, the subjective sensations and thermal adaptive behaviors of the participants were recorded in detail with a questionnaire. Linear regression showed that the neutral temperature for residents in summer was 27.52 °C, with acceptable temperatures ranging from 25.14 °C to 29.9 °C. Age and gender differences were found to affect the occupants' sensation of thermal comfort and humidity, as well as their thermal adaptive behavior. In addition, a thermal adaptive model has been constructed in the study, which will further enrich the thermal adaptive investigation and provide a scientifically sound reference for the renovation and development of the local rural areas. This study aimed to investigate dust and bacterial air contamination in a broiler house during different seasons. The study was carried out in commercial housing conditions during five weeks of the rearing cycle in summer and winter. The total dust concentration ranged from 1.90 to 4.50 mg/m3 in summer and from 2.80 to 5.10 mg/m3 in winter. The total bacterial count ranged from 2.85 × 104 to 1.03 × 105 CFU/m3 in summer and from 2.12 × 104 to 2.28 × 105 CFU/m3 in winter. The study results showed the dust concentration to be increased in winter as compared to summer, yielding a significant correlation (r = 0.602, p < 0.05) with a significantly higher airborne bacterial count in winter (p < 0.001). Furthermore, dust concentration showed significant correlations (p < 0.05) with air temperature (r = −0.418), relative humidity (r = 0.673), and broiler activity (r = 0.709), while bacterial count yielded significant correlations (p < 0.05) with air temperature (r = −0.756), relative humidity (r = 0.831), and airflow rate (r = 0.511). The results obtained in the study can prove useful in the field. Seasonal variability in dust and bacterial air contamination should be considered in the development of guidelines or standards of air quality in broiler housing and evaluation of the effectiveness of remedial strategies. Fire incidents in energy storage stations are frequent, posing significant firefighting safety risks. To simulate the fire characteristics and inhibition performances by fine water mist for lithium-ion battery packs in an energy-storage cabin, the PyroSim software is used to build a 1:1 experimental geometry model of a containerized lithium-ion energy storage cabin. The simulation reveals five stages and their characteristic parameter variations during a fire incident: initial temperature rise, flame generation, flame spread, stable combustion, and flame extinguishment. By adjusting various parameters of the fine water mist, the design of the fine water mist firefighting system for containerized energy storage units is optimized. The simulation results indicate that the optimal inhibition effect for the energy storage cabin's fine water mist firefighting system is achieved when the spray intensity is ≥24 l/min, the fog cone angle is 76°, nozzle velocity is 10 m/s, and the optimal particle size of the fine water mist is 50 μm. The research findings not only provide a rational method and theoretical guidance for the numerical simulation of thermal runaway in lithium batteries but also offer theoretical data support for the safety design and protection of future energy storage cabins. The equipment cabins of high‐speed trains encountered alternating pressure loads during operation. A fatigue evaluation methodology based on sub‐zone aerodynamic loading was proposed. Theoretical model was given between pressure load at each zone and the accompanying six structural stress components. Stress recovery matrix was formulated by finite element analysis (FEA) in sub‐zone loading cases to relate the stress to the measured pressure loads. Vehicle test gathered the pressure time‐history data of cabin sub‐zones at the head car in different ambient conditions, from which the two‐dimensional stress spectrum was derived by rain‐flow counting. The fatigue damage of welds was then assessed utilizing the Miner's and Corten Dolan's rules, yielding maximum equivalent damages of 0.72 and 0.23, respectively. The structural fatigue damage under high environmental wind conditions was 1–3 times greater than in calm weather. Nonetheless, the fatigue damage incurred by the metal matrix was significantly lower, demonstrating a substantial safety margin. The aim of this study is to determine the concentration of fungi and bacteria in the air inside the car cabin and, on this basis, to determine the air quality in the passenger car cabin. The aim of the work is also to demonstrate the impact of hygienic maintenance of filtering devices on the quality of indoor air. The subjects of the research are car cabins, as an example of small, enclosed spaces in which people may remain. The tests were carried out in the summer of 2020 in three passenger cars. Based on the conducted research, it was found that the operation time of regularly serviced air conditioning has a positive effect on the air quality in small, confined spaces. The vehicle with the longest-used filter was characterised by the highest concentration of fungi (8369 CFU/m3) and bacteria (16563 CFU/m3) in the environment inside the car cabin, which means that periodic replacement of the filters in the car's ventilation system is very important. In Poland, it is recommended that such a filter be replaced after a year or after driving 10,000-15,000 kilometres. In analysing the state of air quality in the examined confined spaces, it can be concluded that by ensuring regular replacement of cabin filters and air conditioning servicing, we have a very large impact on indoor air quality.
