Communication skill is an ability to convey the results of observations or knowledge possessed through oral, written, and gestures. The results of the needs analysis on the ability of communication skills through observations of undergraduate students of Biology Education, State University of Malang, who are taking Plant Physiology courses are classified as low. Basedon the results of the needs analysis, it is proven that learning does not empower communication skills because learning doesn't facilitate student learning styles. The solution to overcome these problems is to apply problem-based learning with the VARK approach (Visual, auditory/ aural, read/ write, kinesthetic). The purpose of this study is to prove the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) learning model with the VARK approach on students' communication skills. This type of research is a quasi-experimental. Data collection techniques with observation. The research sample consisted of 58 students consisting of two groups, namely the experimental group using PBL with the VARK approach and the control group using only PBL without the VARK approach. Data analysis used the independent sample t-test to determine the effect of the learning model. The results of data analysis and the discussion above, this study can conclude that the problem-based learning model with the VARK approach (Visual, Auditory, Read- write and Kinesthetic) has an effect on the communication skills of biology students.
