The objective of this study is to ascertain the impact of interactive videos on web-based courses on students' technology proficiency and digital literacy levels, as well as their perceptions of this approach. To achieve this objective, the study was conducted using quasi-experimental designs, which are a type of quantitative research approach. The research group was selected using the convenience sampling method. The quantitative data gathered with the aid of data collection instruments were analyzed using dependent and independent samples t-tests. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. The study's findings revealed a significant difference between the technology proficiency and digital literacy pre-test and post-test scores of the students in the experimental group. Furthermore, the findings indicated a significant difference between the technology proficiency and digital literacy scores of the groups, with the experimental group exhibiting superior performance. The results demonstrated that the use of interactive videos in web-based lessons can enhance students' technology proficiency and digital literacy levels. Therefore, the findings and results of the study will make a significant contribution to the field.

Purpose: Many students perceive plant anatomy as difficult due to the complexity of the material. Additionally, conventional teaching techniques often neglect the importance of information retention in the learning process. Therefore, this study examines the effects of Retention-Based Learning on students' learning outcomes compared to conventional learning without Retention-Based Learning. Methodology: A multiple-group time series research design was used to measure the effectiveness of Retention-Based Learning on students' learning outcomes including information retention, cognitive load, and learning achievement. Retention interventions in the Retention-Based Learning class included watching videos, identifying images and answering questions. The participants in this study were seventy-eight 10th-grade public high school students in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia, divided into two research groups. Findings: This study found that students in the experimental group had better information retention in each lesson and a significantly higher ability to process information with less mental effort and lower cognitive load than the control group. Additionally, the experimental group showed significantly higher learning achievement than the control group. These findings demonstrate the importance of maintaining information retention to maximize learning outcomes in plant anatomy lessons. Significance: This study indicates that maintaining retention can be a simple and powerful learning approach to help high school teachers teach complex material. The study highlights the significance of maintaining student retention to improve learning performance.

Exploratory data analysis (EDA), data visualization, and visual analytics are essential for understanding and analyzing complex datasets. In this project, we explored these techniques and their applications in data analytics. The case discusses Tableau, a powerful data visualization tool, and Google BigQuery, a cloud-based data warehouse that enables users to store, query, and analyze large datasets. It also explored the benefits and applications of both tools and their integration with other platforms and services. The project offers an introductory insight into Tableau's functionalities, employing a data file from the US Census Bureau via Google BigQuery.

The use of virtual museums in cultural transfer is an interdisciplinary approach of significant importance. Virtual museums play a crucial role in cultural transfer by digitally preserving cultural heritage. This article examines the educational role of virtual museums as a key tool in cultural transfer, particularly in the context of representing Ottoman works in virtual museums. Museums, indispensable elements of cultural transfer and education in contemporary society, have gained the opportunity to reach wider audiences by transitioning into the digital realm. In this context, the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums and its role in cultural transfer are highlighted. Virtual museums hold great educational potential. It is well recognized that the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums has educational effects such as expanding learning environments, facilitating access to knowledge, and increasing cultural awareness. Therefore, the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums, especially in the field of education, is addressed. This study evaluates the role of the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums in cultural transfer and education, thus demonstrating the educational potential of virtual museums. The research illustrates that virtual museums serve as significant tools for the preservation and dissemination of cultural heritage, and the representation of Ottoman works in virtual museums contributes to this process. Using Ferdinand de Saussure's theory of signs, signifier, signified, this study examines the representation and educational role of Ottoman works in virtual museums.

With the development of technology, the circulation of information around the world has accelerated. Journalism has now entered social media and mobile phones and has started to accompany people everywhere. The role of the media in education helps to learn, develop and keep alive a culture, and then transfer it to new generations. Media messages prepared for educational purposes aim to educate the individual and society on certain issues. The media is integrative with publications that raise awareness of the country, state and nation, make people popular, protect and protect national values. Thanks to the developing technology, politicians benefit from the educational role of the media by using new media tools as well as traditional media. In this study, the concepts of communication and media are explained in detail. In the continuation of the study, it was tried to reveal what needs to be done about the realization of a successful corporate perception management by mentioning the importance of corporate perception management in public administration by making use of the developing technology. Using content analysis, the interviews of the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, in the TRNC and universities in Turkey in October 2023 were examined.

This study aims to examine the potential differences between teacher evaluations and artificial intelligence (AI) tool-based assessment systems in university examinations. The research has evaluated a wide spectrum of exams including numerical and verbal course exams, exams with different assessment styles (project, test exam, traditional exam), and both theoretical and practical course exams. These exams were selected using a criterion sampling method and were analyzed using Bland-Altman Analysis and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) analyses to assess how AI and teacher evaluations performed across a broad range. The research findings indicate that while there is a high level of proficiency between the total exam scores assessed by artificial intelligence and teacher evaluations; medium consistency was found in the evaluation of visually based exams, low consistency in video exams, high consistency in test exams, and low consistency in traditional exams. This research is crucial as it helps to identify specific areas where artificial intelligence can either complement or needs improvement in educational assessment, guiding the development of more accurate and fair evaluation tools.

Culture shapes pupils' mathematical learning, their performances and life trajectories of participation (César, 2013a, 2013b). It also contributes to the senses they attribute to mathematical learning (Bakhtin, 1929/1981). Using collaborative work and interempowerment mechanisms facilitates knowledge appropriation (César, 2009). This is particularly important for pupils participating in minority cultures, socially undervalued and whose L1 is not the instruction language. Bi-univocal culture mediation (César, 2017b) is important regarding empowerment. We used an instrument to evaluate pupils' abilities and competencies (IACC), conceived by the "Interaction and Knowlwdge" (IK) team (Machado, 2014), and other mathematical tasks. The goal we address is to trace the differences between their approaches to problems, mathematical reasoning and solving strategies used by pupils whose L1 is ideographic (Creole, Cape Verde) or phonetic (Portuguese). We developed an intrinsic case study (Stake, 1995). The main participants are the pupils from almost 600 classes (all over Portugal and Cape Verde) who participated in the IK. The analysis of some examples illustrates that L1 shapes pupils' approaches to problems, mathematical reasoning and solving strategies. This evidence plays an important role in their access to school achievement and in teachers' understanding about how they can promote pupils' mathematical learning.

Although student covariation reasoning has been explored in depth to improve understanding of the correspondence between variables, research has focused on studying existing reasoning about variables in Cartesian representations. The working method had a qualitative approach, with a descriptive exploratory scope, the spontaneous representations that the participants evidenced under the level of covariational reasoning of the variables present in three contextualized situations were explored, posed to a population of third-grade middle school students. The students argued with concrete and abstract drawings the general behavior of the variables. At low levels of reasoning they used pictorial representations, at higher levels they used graphical diagrams and tables. The exploratory study shows a relationship between the type of spontaneous representations and the student's level of covariational reasoning, as well as the rigor of the description of the problem.

The tradition of studies involving the combinatorial approach to recurring numerical sequences has accumulated a few decades of tradition, and several problems continue to attract the interest of mathematicians in several countries. This work specifically discusses the Fibonacci, Pell, and Jacobsthal sequences, focusing on Mersenne sequences. The often-used definition of board involves considering how to fill a specific regular surface--the board--with a limited quantity of regularly shaped tiles. On the other hand, an analogous problem can be generalized and exemplifies current research developments. Finally, the examples covered constitute unexpected ways of exploring visualization and other skills in mathematics teachers' learning, consequently inspiring them for their teaching context.

In line with the philosophy of inclusion and various legislative instruments which encourage 'education for all', ODL institutions have made provision for sign language interpreters (SLIs) to facilitate participation for deaf students. Although, some studies have examined issues of virtual learning and the ODL programme; a paucity of studies assessing virtual sign language interpretation (VSLI) in remote educational activities is evident. Therefore, a research study was instituted to probe into perceived enablers and or constraints of providing VSLI during the Covid-19 lockdown in Nigeria. Based on the Job Demand Resources Model, two research questions were raised and answered in this paper. This study adopted the qualitative research design and seven SLIs who had participated in virtual teaching and learning activities during the lockdown were purposively selected to participate in the study. Semi-structured interviews were used for data collection, and the data collected were coded and analysed thematically through using an iterative process. Government policies and the empathetic nature of SLIs were found to be enablers of VSLI, while four themes, namely epileptic power supply; internet connectivity; lack of institutional support and the comprehensibility of deaf students who attended remote lectures were found to serve as barriers to effective and efficient VSLI. Based on the findings, appropriate recommendations were made.

This study aimed to discover the factors affecting the acceptance and adoption of Tiktok platform among Palestinians through the Lens of Diffusion of Innovation Theory. The study sought to research how Tiktok app has diffused among the Palestinian users, and discover the characteristics of Tiktok platform that affect its adoption among them, in addition to discover the benefits that Palestinian users are gaining from Tiktok adoption. The study also sought to identify the reasons that derive Palestinian users to prefer Tiktok to other platforms. This study used the qualitative methodology and utilized semi-structured interviews to accomplish the goals of the research and answer its questions. These interviews were based on a pre-established set of questions that were asked to all respondents. Semi- structured interviews were chosen because they flexible and give the opportunity to ask follow-up questions to delve more deeply into topics addressed. Ten interviews done with diverse Palestinian Tiktok users to discover the characteristics and determinants that motivate them to use and adopt Tiktok and reveal the reasons that may derive users to prefer other platforms to use. After interviews analyzing, the study revealed that users got to know the Tiktok platform in various ways, including YouTube ads, and the recommendation of close friends and relatives to use the platform. The majority of interviewees cleared that the most important characteristic that encouraged them to adopt and use the application is its ease of use, as well as the fact that it is free application supports the Arabic language and doesn't need a prior experience to use. According to the results, the interviewees believe that there are many advantages to utilize and implement the application, such as passing the time by watching quick videos with a variety of subjects.

Giving feedback to student writing is one of the writing teacher's most important tasks in the classroom. Writing teachers can use many forms of feedback, such as written feedback, teacher-student conferencing, peer feedback, or self-assessment. Additionally, the influx of technologies into writing classrooms allows teachers to use screencast video feedback when responding to student writing. In this article, two second-language writing teachers questioned their feedback practices when responding to students' texts. They implemented feedback innovation by using screencast video feedback in their classrooms to explore how their attempts to use video feedback affected their individual practices. The implementation of video feedback opened their eyes as writing teachers because of its multimodality. The innovative use of aural, visual, textual, and gestural modes enabled them to view feedback as a tool for improving and learning writing rather than solely correcting students' errors. This article provides ideas and suggestions for writing teachers interested in improving feedback practices with screencast video feedback.

This article confronts tensions of "risk" and "change" in youth engagement and community arts, towards insights for alternate world-building. We problematize overly instrumental approaches, by examining aesthetic and inductive theories of change arising from "Making With Place," a research creation initiative based in Toronto, Canada. From Spring 2020 to Fall 2022, we engaged diverse young people as artist-researchers in community arts production experiments exploring concepts of place from individual and collective perspectives. We draw here on resulting public artworks, discussions with the artists, and our own field notes to surface the theories of change arising from this work. We identify three emergent metaphors--the garden, the bridge, the margins--and the ways in which they resist dominant discourses in favor of new practices of imagination and repair. We explore how these creative explorations articulate theories of change that refuse forgetting and call forth desire.

This paper investigates the cognitive processes involved in English word recognition among young EFL learners using eye-tracking methodology. A quasi-experimental mixed method design was used to investigate how young L2 learners engage with basic words, with or without pictorial cues. A total of seventeen 6th-grade pupils from two schools participated in the experiment. The participants were presented with a list of 20 words and were asked to read them aloud while their eye movements were tracked to discern their viewing patterns. Immediately after the reading task, stimulated-recall interviews were conducted to triangulate and validate the participants' viewing behaviors. Results indicate that participants focused significantly more on the text than the accompanying pictures yet demonstrated better performance in recognizing and reading the words presented in a picture-based mode. Some participants reported that the pictures were not viewed because the words were easy to read. In contrast, others struggled to read certain words due to an over-reliance on their background knowledge, which sometimes led to misinterpretation. These results emphasize the importance of integrating visual cues with word recognition instruction in early language learning contexts, highlighting when and how these cues should be utilized effectively.

The usage of video conferencing tools in teaching and learning has become a norm in today's higher educational institutions, recognized across various academic settings. The experience gained by most educators in using video conferencing tools for teaching during the COVID-19 pandemic could be leveraged to enhance these tools. The study aims to capture the current practices and explore the issues of using video conferencing for teaching and learning in Malaysian higher educational institutions. It focuses on three target groups with hands-on experience: academicians, students, and e-learning consultants or information technology (IT) support staff. Interview and focus group protocols were developed based on the four elements of the PACT framework: People (P), Activities (A), Contexts (C), and Technologies (T). Data were gathered through focus group discussions and in-depth interviews with the target groups. There were 24 participants involved in three focus group discussions and 28 participants in individual in-depth interviews. The PACT framework was employed to analyze the data, aiding in understanding the current situation, identifying areas for improvement, and envisioning future scenarios. Qualitative data were transcribed and categorized based on the four PACT elements. The study identified differences in the People element with four scenarios/practices on physical differences, six on psychological differences, three on mental models, and five on social differences. A total of twenty differences were identified under the Activities element, with six on temporal aspects, four each on cooperation, complexity, and safety-critical aspects, and two on the nature of the content. Under the Context element, one scenario/practice was identified for organizational circumstances, five for social circumstances, and three for physical circumstances. In the Technology element, five scenarios/practices were identified: two related to the input part of technologies and one each for the output, communication, and content parts of technologies. From the scenarios/practices of the responses, a total of fifty-two issues related to using video conferencing for teaching and learning were identified. These findings will serve as the basis for ideation in developing innovative video conferencing toolkits for teaching and learning.

Escape rooms are an established game genre that has become popular in educational contexts in recent years. Digital escape rooms are variations, which use digital environments and may be played by participants not present on site. Compared to physical escape rooms, digital escape rooms are characterised by lower implementation and application efforts and at the same time by reduced intensity of the experiences. There is little evidence to date as to whether these lowthreshold escape rooms are nevertheless sufficiently effective for learning. In this evaluation study, a learning activity based on a digital educational escape room (DEER) that uses the 360°-based spatial visualization (360VR) of a waterworks and a web-based form -- contributing guidance and the escape room-specific challenges -- is analysed. In the learning activity, students of environmental engineering study programs are asked to explore the 360VR-based waterworks guided by the instructions and challenges in the web-based form. Quantitative results of the study on learning outcomes and variables relevant to learning, such as emotion, motivation, and usability (N=73) are reported. The evaluation is supported by the qualitative results of guided interviews. Remarkably, some participants would have preferred to explore the 360VR environment without the guidance provided by the web-based form. Overall, the results show the learning effectiveness of the DEER, the efficacy of the web-based form as a guidance instrument, and values of learning-relevant variables that are conducive to learning. The DEER also achieved a high level of acceptance among students. Due to the low effort required for the creation of the DEER by lecturers and for application on the part of students, the presented combination of 360VR and web-based forms can be seen as a powerful low-threshold learning tool that enriches teaching.

Teachers' professional vision (TPV) is an essential contributor to enhancing the quality of teaching-learning processes thanks to its potential effect on teachers' self-reflective skills. This is of particular importance in Physical Education (PE), due to the fact that this subject presents different challenges and more dynamic situations compared to others. One of the latest approaches for enhancing TPV is video-based reflection, allowing teachers to observe and analyze recorded lessons. This research aimed to test the effect of a video-based reflection program on TPV in PE. Two teachers participated in a 3-step video-analysis program consisting of self-reflection, peer reflection, and expert feedback. Notable changes were found in TPV at the end of the 6-month intervention, both in terms of teachers' selective attention to classroom events and their knowledge-based reasoning. Our findings suggest that video-based reflection interventions could represent an important component of any teacher training program aiming to increase PE teachers' ability to evaluate and respond to a variety of in-class situations.

The need for online educational tools has increased significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic forced many students to embrace distance learning as a classroom alternative. While many instructors have used "Edpuzzle" to enhance distance learning, there has been little research that assesses and compares the views of teachers and students on the tool's advantages and disadvantages. To examine the perceived advantages and disadvantages of using "Edpuzzle" for classroom learning, we surveyed a sample of 152 professors and their students on their experience with the tool. The results reveal numerous advantages, including that "Edpuzzle" is a motivating, dynamic, and novel self-learning tool for students. Likewise, the professors point out that it is easy to use, focuses the attention of students, and is versatile. The disadvantages of the tool mostly had to do with technological challenges and potential boredom. Based on this evaluation, it was concluded that students have a preference for graphic and visual material to complement other learning tools to help them better understand the lessons. When weighing the advantages and disadvantages posed by the professors and their students, it was found that the unique combination of interactive teaching that "Edpuzzle" provides is promising for the future.

Teaching is a process for which its plan should contain reflection onto previous experience. With that in mind, teaching situations should be continuously researched and improved in accordance with the research results. Led by this thought and the fact that students are uncritically using visualization to solve mathematical problems, we defined the aim of this research--determine the attitude of students about the visualization of mathematical content (VMC). The subject of this research are the attitudes of students towards VMC. By analyzing our research subject, we have discovered the research problem--students use visual aid to solve problems uncritically. Based on this problem, we have set the aim of our research. Our aim was to determine the students' attitudes (and their opinions) about VMC. Based on the aim of our research, we have set four research tasks. Based on these research tasks, we have established the main (leading) research question--What is the attitude of high school students towards the application of VMC? We divided the main research question into five questions: Do high school students consider that they understand the term 'VMC'? Who considers they use more methods of solving mathematical problems using visual aid--high school male students or female students? Students of which grades consider that they use solving problems using visual aid more? What is the attitude of high school students about the relationship between the substantiality of the picture (the amount of data it encompasses) and the difficulty of solving the problem? What is the attitude of students about the use of software to solve mathematical problems? The research has been conducted with 1,240 high school students from Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina. For the purposes of this article, we employed a survey, questionnaire-based research. The research was created as part of a larger study conducted in the context of preparing a doctoral dissertation related to VMC. It is one fundamental research. An essential aspect of this research involves students' attitudes toward VMC. After obtaining all necessary approvals from relevant institutions and parents, students proceeded to testing and surveying in their school classrooms, under the supervision of designated individuals who facilitated the conduct of the research. The distribution of the data was not normal, so we used the Pearson Chi-square, likelihood ratio Chi-square, and linear-by-linear association test to examine the association between student attitudes and categorical variables (gender and grade). In addition, we used frequencies and percentages. It has been concluded that the students are mostly positive towards applying visualization in their process of solving mathematical problems and these should be used in the direction of improving the students' success, their confidence and their level of contentment in their mathematics class, as well as in other life situations that encompass mathematical content. In future research, it could be examined why students expressed such attitudes about the presented situations. Additionally, it would be significant to explore why students do not consider themselves successful in applying VMC, despite claiming to understand the term. The analysis could extend to the content presented in textbooks or instructional materials students use--how visualized the content is or whether students are required to visualize it themselves. It would also be worthwhile to investigate the extent to which teachers encourage students to visualize specific tasks or do so on their behalf. Given the fluctuation in results (we observe affirmative answers--partially or completely) observed across grades--initial decrease, subsequent increase, followed by another decrease--it might be explored whether this is related to the curriculum taught in each grade (such as content, volume, number of class hours, etc.). Regarding images leading to incorrect conclusions, it would be interesting to investigate the types of images students have in mind, how frequently they encounter such situations, where they use these images, who creates them, and similar aspects. These are just some questions for future research.

Purpose: The paper shows the interpretive impact of different constructions of the point of view available to the reader/viewer in book and animated movie versions of a children's picture book, a novel for pre-adolescents/early teenagers, and a graphic novel for adolescents and adults. Design/Approach/Methods: Excerpts from book and animated movie versions of the same story are compared using multimodal analysis of interpersonal meaning to show how the reader/viewer is positioned in relation to the characters in each version, complemented by analyses of ideational meaning to show the effect of point of view on interpretive possibilities. Findings: Focusing mainly on multimodal construction of point of view, the analyses show how interpretive possibilities of ostensibly the same story are significantly reconfigured in animated adaptations compared with book versions even when the verbal narrative remains substantially unchanged. Originality/Value: The study shows that it is crucial to students' critical appreciation of, and their creative contribution to, their evolving digital literary culture that in this new era of educational technology, attention in literacy and literary education focuses on developing understandings of digital multimodal narrative art, and that animated movie adaptations are not presented pedagogically as isomorphic with, or simply adjunct to, corresponding book versions.

Research has shown the importance of helping students, especially those with mild-to-moderate learning disabilities, to offload information during problem-solving. When students can get their thoughts onto paper, number line strategies can help them develop a firm foundation in mathematical problem-solving while understanding the relationships between mathematical operations. These strategies are helpful for the development of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and later, fractional mathematics. In this article, we describe the progression of number lines as a supportive strategy for elementary students and those with developmental delays in mathematics to improve mathematical understanding. This strategy is based on students being able to show their work and think about what they have written on paper or how they have used manipulatives.

Multiple representations are widely recognized for their significant role in concept learning. This study aimed to investigate the multiple representation translation skills of high school students at different grade levels about the concept of one-dimensional motion. 239 9th, 10th, and 11th-grade students participated in the study using a developmental research model. The data collection tool consisted of questions that required translating figures, tables, graphs, verbal explanations, and algebraic representations into other representation types in a multiple-representation translation test focusing on one-dimensional motion. Data analysis involved evaluating the translation among representations for each category and analyzing the multiple representation translation skills across different grade levels using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results revealed that students successfully translated from figure, table, and graphical representations to other forms while encountering challenges in translation from verbal and algebraic representations. Furthermore, the ANOVA results indicated a significant difference between the 9th and 11th grades, favoring the 11th grade.

Technological developments in various fields are the key to progress in the digital era. The utilization of technology-based learning media in education makes learning more interactive and supports independent learning. This study aims to develop and test the practicality and effectiveness of storyline-based nervous system e-comics media to support students' independent learning. This research uses the Research and Development (RnD) method with the Lee & Owen model, consisting of the analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation stages. The research was conducted with the subjects in this study, class XI MIPA SMA Negeri 2 Malang students, totalling 60 people. A pre-experimental design of one group pretest-posttest was used to test the effectiveness of the media. Data were collected through questionnaires and tests. The media validation results obtained 100%, material validation 100%, and student response results 98.7% in the class trial. The effectiveness test used a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design. The results showed a significant difference between the posttest of both classes with Sig. (2-tailed) 0.00 <0.05, there is a significant difference between the control and experimental classes. Storylinebased nerve e-comic media can facilitate independent learning more interestingly and interactively.

The current research aimed to unpack teachers' knowledge of integers by investigating how they used the number line and counter models to represent the two meanings of division (i.e., partitive and measurement). The participants were three middle school mathematics teachers working in different cities in Türkiye. Data consisted of teachers' written responses to an open-ended questionnaire consisting of four division operations and interviews conducted thereafter. Findings revealed that although two teachers could accurately model all division operations with the number line model, one teacher could neither provide a problem context nor a model displaying one of the division operations. For the counter model, only one teacher could accurately model all division operations in the questionnaire.

This study aims to compare the efficacy of simultaneous prompting presented via tablets and visual cards in the instruction of spatial concepts to students with intellectual disabilities. A mobile learning software was developed within portable devices by using simultaneous prompting method to teach spatial concepts. The adapted alternating treatments design which is one of the single-subject research methods was used in the study. The dependent variables of the research are left-right, near-far, up-down concepts and independent variables are simultaneous prompting presented with tablet and simultaneous prompting presented with visual cards. A total of 3 students, 1 girl and 2 boys, studying at a private special education school participated in this research. Teaching sessions were held in an individual teaching arrangement. Results were analyzed by graphical analysis. According to the results of the research, it was concluded that there are different levels of effectiveness between teaching with simultaneous prompting presented with tablets and visual cards. It has been found that simultaneous prompting presented with tablets is more efficient than teaching with simultaneous prompting presented with visual cards. Two of the participants were found to have retained the concepts after 1, 3, and 5 weeks.

This qualitative research aimed to explore high school students' opinions on the effectiveness of using the mind map method asa note-taking, thinking, and learning tool. The study involved 80 students from 9th, 11th, and 12th grades who were introducedto the mind map method and asked to apply it in their lessons. The results showed that the majority of the students believed that the use of the mind map method supports permanent learning, extends attention and focus time, helps to focus faster and learn easily, is entertaining, enjoyable, and motivational, saves time, and improves creativity. However, a few students pointed out that the use of shapes and painting require effort and time. These findings are consistent with previous studies and suggest that the mind map method can be an effective learning tool for high school students. The study recommends adding the mind map method to the guidance framework program and curriculum textbooks, as well as training teachers, especially guidance teachers, to enhance the students' permanent learning, attention and focus time, faster focusing and easy learning, fun, enjoyable, and increased motivation, saving time, making it easier to remember by choosing keywords, and improving creativity. Overall, this study highlights the potential benefits of using the mind map method in education and offers suggestions for its implementation to support students' learning.

This research aims to study Factors Influencing Academic Staff Attitudes Towards Smart Boards Use in Education Process in Applied Science University. Additionally, it seeks to examine the moderating role of the type of school. The research's independent variables consist of Factors (interaction, self-efficiency, course design, technical support, convenience and accessibility), while the dependent variable is Attitudes towards smart board. A quantitative method was used. The primary data was collected through academic staff university email and through whatsapp. A sample of (N = 27) respondents, who are academic staff in Applied Science University. The result of this research confirms showed that there is a significant positive impact of the smart board on the attitudes of faculty members through positive interaction between them and students and educational materials. The result of interviews this research confirms that the smart board supports the process of interaction between the lecturer and the students in one hand, and on the other hand, it supports the process of interaction between students and educational materials.

Academic procrastination generates several problems and negative consequences both individually and collectively: low student performance, increased stress, negative effects on physical and mental health, and general waste of resources. Therefore, it demands to be studied and understood in its different forms, so that mitigating mechanisms can be developed. The current work seeks to analyse the phenomenon of academic procrastination within postgraduate students registered for the Management Postgraduate Program in a Brazilian Federal University, in order to identify strategies, techniques and tools utilised by the students to overcome procrastination as well as its relation with the concepts of self-regulation and self-efficacy. The current research is descriptive with a qualitative nature, adopting a phenomenological approach through thematic analysis in order to bring to light the experiences and perceptions of individuals from their own perspectives, challenging structural or normative assumptions. In total, 24 students, 12 from the master's degree program and 12 from the doctorate program in Management were interviewed. As a result, it was noticed that there are some overall inferences that can be taken from the narratives, outlining the phenomenon of academic procrastination and its relations with the concepts of self-regulation and self-efficacy, which led to reinforce the notion that the central elements to understand and specifically combat procrastination are related to the concepts of self-efficacy and self-regulation, which have a considerable influence on students' motivation, behaviour and habits. The research has also pointed to some key strategies, techniques and tools that can be utilised to support further applied research as well as to guide the faculty in supporting the students to overcome or mitigate the procrastination impulse, such as use of goal orientation, visual tools, and academic support starting with undergraduate degrees. The work has an original contribution as no research has been made on that topic utilising qualitative data through a phenomenological approach, which opens a vast and new path for future research.

Gamifying educational practices is a trend in the field of education, especially in universities. Knowing which dimensions are significant in active gamified methodologies allows understanding the extent to which a dimension depends on another if there is a correlation between them. Through the GAMEX (gameful experience in gamification) scale, which measures gamified experiences ("Journal of Interactive Marketing," Elsevier 43:98-115, 2018), the aims of this study were to: 1) explore, using the structural equations model, the viability of the GAMEX model formulated to analyse the gamified experience level of university students; and 2) determine the influence of the GAMEX variables on the students' degree of mastery in gamified experiences. The sample was constituted by 405 university students. A structural equation modeling (SEM) analysis was carried from a PLS (partial least squares) approach, using SmartPLS software. The results show the reliability of the different constructs considered in the proposed model. The items presented acceptable reliability levels and strong consistency with the dimensions of the model. The model emphasises the multidimensional character of gamified experience and supports the students' mastery over the different gamified experiences.

Due to swift technological changes in society, programming tasks are proliferating in formal and informal education around the globe. However, challenges arise regarding the acquisition of programming skills. Many students are unequipped to develop programming skills due to limited instruction or background and therefore feel insecure when encountering programming in higher education. Some after-school initiatives focus on teaching younger students programming skills, however, not all students have the opportunity to attend. It can also be very challenging for teachers to teach programming--even more so due to significant differences in students' knowledge and interests. To alleviate these challenges, we designed and developed a digital personalized learning (DPL) track for programming in the first grade of secondary education (12-14 year-old students) with a threefold purpose: (a) to encourage students bridging the gap between visual and more general-purpose textual programming languages (b) to meet differences in students' programming knowledge by challenging them, albeit on their own pace, and subsequently (c) to support teachers in the delivery of programming education with relevant supportive learning materials. The design was tested by students and teachers, both of varying technical abilities. Assessments of the DPL-track were positive, with students identifying the tasks as challenging and the tools as motivating. Teachers praised the adaptivity, as well as the gradual transition from visual to textual programming. We present several suggestions for design improvement and dilemmas while reflecting on our design case.

Poor numeracy skills among remedial pupils remained a critical issue for Malaysia to achieve educational goals. This systematic literature review identified research trends and evidence-based practices on teaching aids to enhance remedial mathematics instruction. The review followed PRISMA model through four phases, searching WoS and Scopus databases to analyze 29 studies from 2014 to 2023 that met the inclusion criteria. The predominant focus was on Indonesia, Taiwan, Malaysia and the United States. Mainly quantitative and qualitative research designs were utilized. Findings revealed diverse teaching aids were proposed, including digital technologies such as systems, smartphone apps, games, multimedia, augmented reality, virtual reality, as well as manipulatives, number lines and instructional modules. Both digital and handson manipulative teaching aids have been applied in remedial mathematics interventions with promising results. Key findings indicate the effectiveness of teaching aids depends on alignment with pupils' individual needs and suitable pedagogical approaches based on local context. Implications emerge for developing new teaching aids and teacher training tailored to local remedial mathematics learners. Rigorous research is needed, particularly in the Malaysian context, to evaluate the usability of teaching aids over time. Investing in specialized teaching aids and aligned instruction will help provide quality remedial mathematics education. This review highlights promising teaching aids and gaps to build essential numeracy skills among remedial pupils in Malaysia for equitable math outcomes.

There has been a call to amplify the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL) and expand its reach by engaging with audiences outside the academy. In this paper, we share our journey in crossing disciplinary boundaries and creating a SoTL-informed infographic for public consumption. As the field of SoTL continues to evolve, infographics hold tremendous potential to communicate SoTL to various stakeholders, including educators, students, administrators, policymakers, and the public. We outline best practices in infographic development and the potential of infographics as a tool for taking SoTL public, emphasizing their visual appeal and effectiveness in conveying complex information. We conclude by discussing the implications of using infographics to advance SoTL communication. The efforts of our group serve as a valuable example of how infographics can be used to bring SoTL knowledge out of academia and into the public domain.

Scholarly writing for academic publication follows discipline-specific constraints where alpha-numeric forms of text are common modes of communication. While figures can be integrated into scholarly publications, graphics are required to fit specific style guides depending on the established criteria for the academic journal. When preparing teaching materials, constraints on communication and production can limit thinking and understanding. In this paper, we outline how we incorporate graphic creations called sketchnotes into our academic writing practices. Sketchnotes are one-to-two-page, free-form, image-rich documents focusing on a topic, concept, or presentation. For our purposes, academic writing is defined as not only peer-reviewed publications but also web-published scholarly works, including research outputs and writing relating to and including our teaching materials. With this definition, we hope to open up a model for expanding the landscape of academic writing, which supports our sketchnoting as part of an open educational practice. Our open practices using sketchnotes include peer-reviewed journal publications, open web publications on our blog sites, and the learning objects we have created as alternative readings of course content.

Language plays a crucial role in interpersonal communication, especially in social situations. To communicate effectively, learners need to expand their vocabulary, as vocabulary is the foundation for the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Teaching English as a foreign language can be challenging, especially when it comes to teaching vocabulary, and thus, the teacher needs to find ways to make the learning process more engaging. This study is a meta-analysis that utilizes a literature review to examine the effectiveness of using the Word Wall in enhancing students' English vocabulary. The sample consists of English foreign language learners who used the Word Wall, predominantly from Junior High School levels. The researcher utilized effect size calculation, based on various journal articles and research studies, to determine the effectiveness of the Word Wall strategy. The results of this study, derived from the discussion and conclusion, suggest that the use of the Word Wall has a significant effect in improving English vocabulary, particularly among Junior High School students. Effect sizes, calculated from multiple studies across different regions such as Bandar Lampung, Purworejo, Jakarta, Bandung, Tarakan, and Jakarta, indicate substantial improvements in vocabulary outcomes. Specifically, the Word Wall strategy demonstrated effect sizes of 1.183 and 1.18 at Junior High School and High School levels respectively, with an overall effect size of 3.0 across various regions in Indonesia.

This article explores the possibilities for decolonizing approaches to intercultural learning for international students in Canada. In this article the authors present the findings from a series of photovoice workshops conducted as a part of a larger mixed-methods project that explores how informal and everyday pedagogies shape international students' mobility decisions in the Atlantic Canadian province of Nova Scotia. Participants' collaborative analysis of their own photographs reveal how everyday citizenship learning emerges from international students' affective relationships to place in such a way that obscures how international education is implicated in processes of settler colonialism. However, evidence suggests that participants' sense of belonging is deeply implicated in their connections to place, highlighting potential opportunities for integrating international students in current initiatives to "decolonize" higher education in the Canadian context.

This study connects to an ongoing discussion about the limits and affordances of simulators as realistic and relevant contexts for professional learning, in this case in the development of visual expertise. Earlier studies of simulator-based maritime pilot training conclude that there are risks associated with so-called negative skills transfer due to a lack of photorealism in simulator environments. The aim of this study is to carefully examine how visual expertise develops in and through training in a simulated environment. Through a practice-based approach to the development of visual expertise, and by using qualitative interaction analysis of video recorded training sessions, the analytical focus is directed towards maritime pilot trainees' talk about imperfections and inconsistencies in the virtual environment during exercises in a high-fidelity bridge simulator. Considering the multi-layered nature of the maritime pilot's visual expertise, findings show that the maritime pilots in training noticed and adapted to the specific methodological and technological challenges when manoeuvring a simulated vessel. During such reflection-in-action, they also commented on and explored the differences between, navigating in a simulator, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, navigating on board a ship. Instead of concluding that there is a risk for negative skills transfer that follows from the differences between the two contexts of navigating, we argue that the challenges introduced by representations encountered when training in a virtual environment may add to the expertise of the trainees and lead to enriched conceptual, methodological, and technical knowledge regarding the specificities of visually demanding and ambiguous navigation situations. In this way, this study contributes to advance our understanding of learning in virtual environments to the frontline of learning research.

Background: Although the reading of science texts has been reported for high school learners, there is not much research on how younger learners engage with expository texts and how they develop academic language skills. In the instance of this study, the topic came from the curriculum content about animal reproduction. Aim: The study from which this article emanated aimed to explore how a sample of learners engaged with a short text, which required cohesive reading and some background knowledge and vocabulary. Setting: This study was conducted in a suburban school where the learners use English as a second language. Methods: A sample (n = 25) was randomly selected from five Grade 4 classes. Their reading comprehension of a custom-designed test was assessed, along with their writing competence in their responses to content questions as well as their drawings. The data were analysed in a typical content analysis modality. Results: This study showed that the learners do not apply inferencing skills and do not read cohesively across sentences and paragraphs and that their vocabulary and prior knowledge of animal reproduction is limited. Conclusion: The urgent need for the development of academic language skills in the early grades is foregrounded in this article, arguing that it can be infused in subjects across the curriculum of the early grades. Contribution: The task can be used by teachers and by researchers who may wish to replicate the study.

The use of navigation applications changed the way people find their way in an unfamiliar environment. A combination of maps, images and textual route instructions shown (or with audio) on one screen guides the user to the destination but may sometimes be overwhelming. This article investigated the spatial knowledge participants acquired after being presented with different types of route instructions, human and computer-generated, in an online wayfinding task using Google Streetview (without the 2D map) of an unfamiliar environment. The results showed a significant difference in the wayfinding performance for deviations from computer-generated instructions, whilst there was no difference in the time spent and the scene recall. Sketch maps revealed both route-like and survey-like characteristics. But most sketch maps are characterised by high route-likeness. Furthermore, this study showed a significant effect of the environmental layout on the participant's performance based on deviations incurred during wayfinding. The results of this study have implications for improving navigation system instructions and design as well as for learning with geospatial technologies.

This correlational cross-sectional study was conducted with 60 graduate students to explore their perceived social experiences with the use of synchronous videoconferencing in the online learning environment. By applying the theories of social presence and media richness, this study investigated the perceived relationship between social presence, social space, sociability, and media richness. The communication theories of social presence and media richness were applied to better understand the relationship between the communication medium (videoconferencing) and the interactions within the mediated environments (e.g., Zoom). This correlational crosssectional study explored graduate students perceived social presence and media richness of a synchronous videoconferencing learning environment by investigating how strongly and in what direction social presence, social space, sociability, and media richness were related. A Pearson correlation analysis was conducted to investigate how strongly and in what direction social presence, social space, sociability, and media richness were related in a synchronous videoconferencing learning environment. The results indicated a strong, positive correlation between Social Presence and Social Space (Positive Group Behavior); Social Presence and Sociability; Social Presence and Media Richness; Social Space (Positive Group Behavior) and Sociability; Social Space (Positive Group Behavior) and Media Richness; and Sociability and Media Richness. A moderate, negative correlation was indicated between Social Space (Negative Group Behavior) and Social Presence; Social Space (Negative Group Behavior) and Sociability; and Social Space (Negative Group Behavior) and Media Richness.

Concepts related to molecular structure are often challenging for students to visualize and comprehend. Augmented reality has emerged as a promising solution to this problem, providing students with opportunities to manipulate and visualize chemical molecular structures to improve their understanding. Furthermore, collaborative learning environments have the potential to enhance student learning by fostering knowledge sharing and collaborative authoring. However, there is a dearth of research exploring students' acceptance of augmented reality in a collaborative learning context. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the technology acceptance of a wearable collaborative augmented reality system in chemistry education among junior high school students. Specifically, 124 students used "Microsoft® HoloLens 2" device to learn about chemical molecular structure. Data was collected using the Extended Technology Acceptance Questionnaire after participants used the system and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling. The extended model takes knowledge sharing, collaborating learning, and collaborative authoring as exogenous variables with perceived ease of use and perceived usability and finally produces a structural model that leads to behavioral usage intentions. The hypotheses tested in this study were accepted as the relationships were significant. Knowledge sharing, collaborative learning, and collaborative authoring have a positive impact on perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use respectively; and perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use have significant effects on behavioral intention to use respectively. This study conclusively demonstrated the hypothesized relationships. Evidence from these results provides comprehensive insights that can help policymakers and educators better understand the factors influencing the adoption of wearable collaborative augmented reality.

As a lot of juvenile Muslims tend to be less engaged with their religion and the history of mosques in their community, this study was conducted to develop a series of digital content in the metaverse combined with participatory communication and learning with religious leader to enhance students' perception of community Mosque (Darun Naim, Thung Kru District, Thailand). The objectives of this research were to survey needs, to develop and assess the quality of the aforementioned series of digital content, to evaluate students' perception, and to measure students' satisfaction. Materials of this study included questionnaires and forms to survey needs, assess the quality of the digital content and media presentation, evaluate subjects perception, and measure their satisfaction. A total of 30 subjects who were students from Al-Bidayah Religious School, Thung Khru District, Bangkok and had been members of Young Muslim Association Ban Khru for at least 1 year were selected through purposive sampling. After questionnaire-based data collection, mean and standard deviation were used as a statistical tool for data analysis. The results of this study showed that the outcome of needs assessment was at a high level. The overall quality of the content and media presentation was at a good and very good level, respectively. The findings of the assessment of students' perception and satisfaction were at the highest level. In summary, the developed digital content in the metaverse combined with participatory communication and learning with religious leader was of high quality and can be implemented.

In the field of complexity, new methodologies emerge, such as horizon architecture, which help to focus solutions that can be integrated to foster innovation in university education. Technologies are also opening up opportunities for training, such as virtual and augmented reality. This article aims to answer the question: What innovations do postgraduate students perceive in environments using horizons architecture to integrate virtual reality? In this project's training experience for students, the horizons architecture strategy was implemented with virtual reality resources and emerging technologies. The present research was conducted with a mixed methodology, using a concurrent triangulation design. The participants were chosen from a sample for non-probability convenience. Three instruments were administered to 99 graduate students in Humanities and Education: i) a semi-structured questionnaire with demographic data and interests in contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), ii) a semi-structured questionnaire on students' perceptions of learning and innovative projects, and iii) a validated Likert-scale questionnaire on elements and types of educational innovation. Virtual and augmented reality supported the distance education modalities and project presentations. The results show that: (a) open and systemic innovation, (b) creation of new products and services, (c) the potential of horizons architecture strategy, (d) motivation boosted by virtual and augmented reality, and (e) critical aspects of integrating virtual and augmented reality (technical and academic). It is concluded that horizons architecture with virtual reality in university education encourages complex reasoning and invites the search for new solutions. The challenge is to train citizens with critical, scientific, systemic, innovative and entrepreneurial thinking, who are also empathetic, cooperative and committed to sustainable development. This study may be valuable to teachers, entrepreneurs, and decision-makers interested in innovative educational environments and technologies, especially those in graduate education.

Following efforts to promote internationalization at academic institutions, the use of multiple languages on educational slides (e.g., PowerPoint) has gradually increased. Multilingualism in learning has its advantages, but having multiple languages on educational slides can lead to crowding and cognitive overload. To investigate how students perceive multilingual slides, evaluations were gathered from Japanese (N = 20) and Indonesian students (N = 20) during an eye-tracking experiment in which their visual attention distribution on the slides was assessed. The slides contained text in three languages (English, Japanese, and Bahasa Indonesia) and were varied according to their layout. One group watched slides with text separated in blocks, with one text block for each language, while the other group watched slides consisting of a single, mixed block with each sentence describing the same information in a different language. The students' evaluations showed that slides with a mixed layout were judged as more crowded and required more processing effort than slides with a separated-block layout. Furthermore, while the students dwelled their gaze significantly longer on text in their native language (either Bahasa Indonesia or Japanese) on separated-block slides, for slides with a mixed layout, the gaze patterns did not significantly differ between languages. The results of a comprehension quiz taken after the slide presentation, however, showed that students performed better after having watched the slides with the mixed layout. Thus, although judged as more crowded and requiring a wider attention distribution, slides with a mixed layout may be preferable in multilingual education.

The fact that the mathematics course is abstract, that it is not possible to associate it with daily life, and that it is impossible to concretize abstract expressions causes a prejudice against the this course and leads to a decrease in the academic achievements of students. It is seen that throughout history, various studies have been carried out taking this situation into consideration. A group of these studies is on realistic mathematics education. Realistic mathematics education is an approach that aims to concretize the abstract concepts of mathematics by relating them to real-life situations. The purpose is to make mathematics more understandable by concretizing it. In the study, the subject of calculating the surface area of prisms with the use of realistic mathematics education was taught, and the purpose of the study was to examine the effects of this application. The study group consisted of 20 5th grade students. While determining this group, maximum variety sampling strategy was preferred. In the study, action research, one of the qualitative research methods, was used, and the data were interpreted with the help of descriptive analysis and content analysis. The data collection tools in the study included semi-structured interview forms, video recordings, photos and activity sheets prepared by the students under the guidance of the researcher in accordance with the realistic mathematics education approach. When the findings were examined, it was seen that the students showed a positive development in the meaning and visualization processes; that they could reach mathematical inferences on their own; that they enjoyed the mathematics lesson; and that the realistic mathematics education approach gave positive results on learning. Based on these results, it was suggested that not only the application of the realistic mathematics education approach for different acquisitions but also the inclusion of these activities in the textbooks in accordance with the curriculum will result in improvements in favor of learning.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the perspectives of English as a Foreign Language Special Education teachers (EFLSE) regarding game-based learning approaches for addressing behavioral disorders in ADHD patients. Method: The study involved a sample (n = 131) of EFLSE teachers who completed a questionnaire to determine how feasible, acceptable, and helpful they found game-based learning. Results: The study revealed that EFLSE teachers perceive game-based learning to be a feasible and acceptable method for engaging ADHD students and helping to maintain their attention during game-based learning activities. Nevertheless, implementation and individualized approaches are cited as challenges. Additionally, EFLSE teachers emphasized the benefits of game-based learning, including improved problem solving, assessment methods, collaboration, and the acquisition of academic skills. Conclusions: The study contributes insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers that can support the development of evidence-based interventions offering game-based learning for students with ADHD.

Children in a grade two/three classroom co-designed photographs of each other's important family objects to develop critical empathy and better understand their peers' home cultures. They engaged in visual critical literacy practices. The paper provides a narrative of what happened and a framework for creative collaborative pedagogy.

Drill-and-practice flashcard interventions are often used when students display delays in sight word recognition and word reading fluency. Sight-phrase interventions connect two to three words together to teach connected text instead of words in isolation. Although studies have shown that students can learn to read sight phrases through a tablet-based intervention, there have been no studies comparing a tablet-based drill-and-practice sight-phrase intervention with a similar paper-based intervention. The current study used a multiple-baseline design across three students and implemented a sight-phrase intervention both using traditional flashcards and using an iPad app. Students were prompted to see the phrase, attempt to read the phrase, hear the phrase read, and then say the phrase again before moving to the next phrase. Results showed that all students quickly acquired all unknown phrases within two to five sessions. There was no difference in acquisition rate between the paper and iPad modalities. Discussion focuses on the applicability of the iPad intervention to increase efficiency in flashcard intervention delivery given that the intervention can increase student sight-phrase acquisition at a similar rate as traditional flashcard interventions.
