Fiber‐reinforced polymers (FRP) feature high strength‐to‐weight ratio amongst the emerging class of natural composites. This paper presents the impact of the glass fiber on the tensile strength of the flax epoxy laminate. The mechanical behavior and damping characteristics of flax fiber reinforced polymer (FFRP) and the hybrid flax‐glass fiber reinforced polymer (HFRP) are experimentally investigated. Both the flax and hybrid FRPs are made using vacuum infusion process. The specimens without and with holes of 4, 5, and 6 mm in diameter are subjected to tensile test using acoustic emission monitoring and free vibration test. In the former testing, HFRP resulted in higher peak frequencies and cumulative counts. Also, the natural frequency and damping factor of HFRP vary proportionately with the hole size, as identified in the latter tests. Different damage mechanisms during the tensile test revealed that the presence of glass fibers in HFRP increased resistance for certain damage mechanisms. As a typical passive energy dissipation device, the fluid viscous damper (FVD) is widely utilized for structural vibration control. However, performance degradation in FVDs has been highlighted, particularly concerning the gap effect resulting from the imperfect installation and insufficient fluid. This study proposes three analytical models to characterize the gap property in the hysteresis behavior of FVDs, including the Gap model (G. model), the Equivalence model (E. model), and the Stiffness Degradation model (S. model). The purpose of the G. model is to reproduce the zero-force platform in the hysteresis curve. The E. model and S. model are both simplified models, aiming to consider the gap effect by altering the damping coefficient, velocity exponent, and stiffness based on the energy and maximum force equivalence principles. Shake table tests of a single-degree-of-freedom system are carried out to validate and assess the effectiveness and accuracy of these three methods. The results indicate that the gap effect will significantly degrade the vibration mitigation performance of FVDs, and hence it needs to be considered in simulations. The displacement and force obtained using the G. model under distinct loads highly correspond to the experimental results. By adopting the simplified models, satisfactory results can be derived with a lower implementation cost. Non-viscous damping parameters can be identified approximately based on the frequency response function of structures. However, it is difficult or expensive to perform vibration test and layout enough amount measured points for structures. The stochastic subspace method can identify modal damping parameters only using responses data from partial measured points. This paper extends the stochastic subspace method from the viscous damping system to non-viscous damping system. In addition, the eigenvalues of the second-order form equation of motion are proved equally to the state space formulation. The identified procedure of the proposed method is given in detail. Using coal gangue as subgrade filler (CGSF) can address the accumulated issues of coal mine waste, but also save the constructing costs, which has the important ecological and engineering practical value. The well-graded limit of CGSF was captured based on the fractal model grading equation (FMGE). The large-scale vibration compaction test (LCT) shows that particle grading has a remarkable influence on the compaction of CGSF, with the increase of fine particle content, the dry density of sample first increases and then decreases. On this basis, the optimal range of particle grading was obtained. A series of large-scale triaxial tests (LTT) were conducted to investigate the mechanical behaviors of CGSF. The results shown that (1) the peak deviatoric stress shows a well-quadratic correlation with the fractal dimension. The optimal grading range of CGSF captured by LTT and LCT is basically the same, hence the suggestion of acquiring the optimal grading through LCT was given. (2) Increasing the compaction degree (DC) can significantly improve the strength of CGSF if DC is smaller, while when DC is greater, the strength improved by increasing DC will not be significant. (3) The grading and DC have a significant impact on the cohesive force of CGSF, while have little effect on internal friction angle. Sandwich composite materials with corrugated cores are mostly used in industries like aircraft, marine construction, automobiles, and construction. Sandwich composite constructions are made for their lightweight, high strength, and high stiffness, and also the sandwich core composite structures are useful for dynamic studies. A novel design inspired by a woodpecker beak microstructure creates fillet edge and champer edge designs. This novel design motivates us to achieve the energy absorbing results starting with free vibration studies followed by rotating environment vibration studies. ASTM E1876 standards, a non-destructive approach, are used to determine the material properties of carbon fiber-polylactic acid (CF-PLA) and glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP), along with alternative dynamic method (ADM) for core property evaluation. The hand lay-up technique is used for fabrication and evaluated for free vibration testing with appropriate boundary conditions. Internet of Things technology has been used for analyzing vibrations of sandwich structures in rotating environment setup with 250, 500, 750, and 1000 rpm. It was observed that the fillet edge pattern has a more efficient natural frequency than the champer edge pattern. Furthermore, the parametric evaluations were performed in various ply configurations in numerical simulations for free vibration and the rotating Environment. Also, the effective results are seen in fillet core bioinspired sandwich structure that achieves efficient stiffness in both free vibration and rotational environments, despite various boundary conditions and parametric circumstances. To investigate the local damage characteristics and properties of stiffness degradation in aluminum structures under vibration fatigue, an evaluation method of the fatigue property for local areas has been proposed by identifying the stiffness from the phase velocity obtained by the laser ultrasonic system. First, vibration fatigue tests were conducted on 2024‐O aluminum alloy components under four different stress levels. To address the issue of local damage characteristics under vibration fatigue, a scan window to achieve the local phase velocities within a small local region was employed, and then, the local stiffness can be calculated. By tracking the residual stiffness of the weakest region, the local damage factor was calculated. A unified model with normalized periods at different stress levels was carried out to predict the evolutionary trend. This approach offers a more efficient alternative to estimate local fatigue damage and residual life through the monitoring of local stiffness during maintenance. Large‐scale fatigue testing is very important to the research on scale effects, which occur in large cyclic loaded structures, such as wind turbine towers. However, such experimental testing has a very high energy consumption. As an efficient alternative, this paper presents a new resonant testing facility for large‐scale specimens under cyclic bending loads. The facility works as a 4‐point bending test, in which the specimen is supported in the nodes of its first normal bending mode, where theoretically no reaction forces occur. Two counter‐rotating imbalance motors with excitation frequencies near resonance generate a harmonic force acting on the specimen. Experimental trial fatigue tests on a steel pipe as a specimen were carried out, in order to validate the new testing setup. A great decrease in the support forces was reached by placing the supports at the normal mode nodes. Additionally, the behavior of the support forces under varying positions and excitation frequencies was also investigated. In summary, the resonant testing method combined with the supports at the normal mode nodes offers an efficient and energy‐saving testing setup for large‐scale fatigue tests. This paper analyzes whether the rubber stack traction structure can be applied to 140 km/h metro vehicles from the perspective of vehicle dynamics. The rolling vibration test results indicate that the vehicle Ride Index exceeds the standard limit, the low-frequency vibration of the car body is significantly greater than that of the frame and axle box, and the lateral motion mode of the car body reaches 2.0 Hz. Through the stiffness test, it is found that when the displacement is less than 5.93 mm, the additional stiffness of the rubber stack traction structure exceeds 0.55 MN/m, which is far greater than the stiffness exhibited by the Z-shaped traction rod at the same displacement. The simulation results demonstrate that the excessive additional stiffness of the traction rubber stack is the primary factor for the car body abnormal vibration and does not effectively improve the vehicle stability. It is recommended that this type of metro shall use a rubber stack traction structure with small additional stiffness or Z-shaped traction rod to improve the car body vibration characteristics at 140 km/h. Purpose: Ground vibration testing is critical for aircraft design and certification. Fast relaxed vector fitting (FRVF) and Loewner framework (LF), recently extended to modal parameter extraction in mechanical systems to address the computational challenges of time and frequency domain techniques, are applied for damage detection on aeronautically relevant structures. Design/methodology/approach: FRVF and LF are applied to numerical datasets to assess noise robustness and performance for damage detection. Computational efficiency is also evaluated. In addition, they are applied to a novel damage detection benchmark of a high aspect ratio wing, comparing their performance with the state-of-the-art method N4SID. Findings: FRVF and LF detect structural changes effectively; LF exhibits better noise robustness, while FRVF is more computationally efficient. Practical implications: LF is recommended for noisy measurements. Originality/value: To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first study in which the LF and FRVF are applied for the extraction of the modal parameters in aeronautically relevant structures. Based on the Bayesian framework, a time domain method is proposed for the uncertain quantification of structural modal identification. First, a theoretical prediction model is constructed from the state space model in modal space and then transformed into physical space using the modal basis. Second, taking into account the uncertainty of the identification results caused by measurement noise and modeling errors, the negative log-likelihood function is constructed using time domain measurement data and a theoretical prediction model based on the Bayesian system identification framework. Finally, an unconstrained quadratic function for the identification parameters is derived through matrix vectorization, and, by mathematically transforming the optimization problem, only the dynamic spectral parameters (the natural frequencies and damping ratios) need to be identified, while the spatial parameters (the mode shapes and modal contribution factors) can be analytically calculated from the spectral parameters, which greatly reduces the dimensionality of the identification parameters. In numerical examples, the identification of the modal parameters for a spring–mass system and high-speed pantograph was studied, and the identified modal parameters based on the simulation response's data were in good agreement with the theoretical values. Moreover, the modal parameters of the actual structure of the pantograph were identified based on the experimental data, and the identifying uncertainties were quantified by the coefficient of variation. To address the noise issue in the measured vibration signals of spillway radial gate discharge, this paper utilizes the Multiverse Optimization Algorithm (MVO) to optimize the number of decomposition modes (K) and the penalty factor (α) in Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD). This approach ensures improved efficiency of VMD decomposition while maintaining accuracy. Subsequently, the obtained Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) from VMD decomposition are classified based on Multi-scale Permutation Entropy (MPE). IMFs are divided into pure components and noisy components; the noisy components are processed with Wavelet Threshold Denoising (WTD), while the pure components are overlaid and reconstructed to obtain the denoised vibration signal of the gate. Comprehensive comparisons involving artificial signal simulations, gate flow-induced vibration model tests, and numerical simulations lead to the following conclusions: compared to other algorithms, the proposed combined denoising method (MVO-VMD-MPE-WTD) achieves the highest signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) in both the frequency and time domains for artificial signals, while yielding the lowest mean square error (MSE). In the gate flow-induced vibration model tests, the method significantly reduces noise in the vibration signals and effectively preserves characteristic information. The error in preserving characteristic information across model tests and numerical simulations is kept below 1%. Furthermore, compared to other optimization algorithms, the MVO demonstrates higher computational efficiency. The parameter-optimized combined denoising method proposed in this study provides insights into denoising measured vibration signals of hydraulic spillway radial gates and other drainage structures, and it opens possibilities for exploring more efficient optimization algorithms for achieving online monitoring in the future. Composite hollow–core slab floor with reinforced concrete topping (i.e. CHFT) is relatively new, which can be applied to various long-span structures. However, these systems are typically lightweight and exhibit low damping, posing potential serviceability concerns related to human vibrations. This paper presents a comprehensive vibration test on a 9m-long CHFT system. Natural frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes of the floor system were obtained through modal tests. The peak acceleration, root–mean–square acceleration, maximum transient vibration value, and perception factor of the floor under heel-drop excitation were obtained through the perceived vibration test and were checked against the available design codes and standards. Sensitivity studies using the finite element method were made to investigate the vibration performance of the CHFT system. Analytical formulas for the fundamental frequency and peak acceleration were derived, which are therefore suggested for practical use. A vibration-reducing boring bar with variable damping is proposed as a solution to the issue of poor stability of boring bars during boring machining. This will enhance the stability of boring machining. Firstly, this article places a variable-damping vibration absorber in the cavity at the front end of the boring bar. An excitation coil, a mass block, and a cantilever beam make up the vibration absorber structure. It contributes to damping adjustment by adjusting the excitation coil's energizing voltage, which alters the damping force on the mass block. On this basis, establish a dynamic model and analyze the damping and magnetic field of the variable-damping vibration absorber. Simultaneously building a vibration-damping boring bar system platform based on LabVIEW to monitor and control the vibration status of the boring bar. Finally, the feasibility of the vibration-damping boring bar was verified through performance testing of the vibration absorber and boring experiments. The results showed that the maximum vibration acceleration of the vibration-damping boring bar decreased by about 34.7%. This study investigates the nonlinear vibration characteristics of all-composite honeycomb core sandwich panes (ACHCSPs) based on high-order shear deformation theory, Gibson equivalent theory, and Jones–Nelson–Hui nonlinear theory. In this model, the intermediate honeycomb layer is equivalently represented as a single layer of orthotropic material. The energy equation is established using the energy method, and the nonlinear vibration characteristics are determined using the Newton–Raphson method. To validate the model, experimental specimens of ACHCSPs are prepared, and an experimental platform is constructed for nonlinear vibration testing. Finally, the influence of honeycomb layer thickness, honeycomb unit wall thickness, and wall length on its nonlinear vibration characteristics is discussed. The results indicate that the proposed theoretical model can effectively predict the nonlinear vibration characteristics of ACHCSP. The recently upgraded six Degree‐of‐Freedom Shaking Table, LHPOST6, at UC San Diego, underwent a series of forced vibration tests to evaluate the post‐upgrade dynamic response of the foundation‐soil system. The resulting data were instrumental in obtaining frequency response curves of the system, which were used to determine its low‐strain natural frequencies, effective viscous damping ratios, and reaction mass displacements. The extensive experimental data motivated the creation of a detailed Soil‐Structure‐Interaction model of the reaction mass‐soil system. The structure and soil were modeled using 3D Finite Elements in STKO‐OpenSees and calibrated with the acquired data via a parametric study. The 3D continuum FE model and the calibration procedure based on a single soil parameter (shear wave velocity profile) proved to be an effective tool to reproduce the experimental results accurately. This paper describes the Finite Element model, its calibration, and validation. In addition, the paper provides suggestions to simplify continuum models and promote their use in professional practice. Bridges will inevitably experience structural damage during long-term operation, which will decrease their structural load bearing capacity and durability. The vibration characteristics of bridge structures can be used as evaluation indicators for accurately diagnosing their deterioration. This study aimed at developing a vibration testing method for identifying bridge deck damage that does not affect traffic and is easy to implement. The vibration tests on the in-service bridge revealed it was mainly subjected to vertical vibrations, with the accelerations in the vertical direction about twice those in the horizontal direction. Based on fast Fourier transform analysis, the dominant vertical vibration frequencies were 2.34 Hz, 4.10 Hz, 10.30 Hz, 14.45 Hz and 18.75 Hz. A series of 0.1–0.3 Hz bandpass filters were used with those frequencies at the centers for modal analysis. The experimental results were then compared to the finite element analysis results. This study proposed a vibration-based damage identification method based on the differences between the bridge deck and both main steel girders. In vibration testing of civil engineering structures, the first two vibration modes are crucial in representing the global dynamic behavior of the structure measured. In the present study, a comprehensive method is proposed to identify the first two vibration modes of wind turbine towers, which is based on the analysis of fractional order statistical moments (FSM). This study offers novel contributions in two key aspects: (1) theoretical derivations of the relationship between FSM and vibration mode; and (2) successful use of 32/7‐order displacement statistical moment (Md32/7)$( {M_d^{32/7}} )$ as the optimal FSM to identify wind turbine tower modes, by combining with noise resistance analysis, sensitivity analysis, and stability analysis, respectively. Using the proposed method, the FSM was first used to identify the modal vibration of wind turbine towers. By obtaining the response of the structure on the same vertical line, FSM was then calculated to estimate the corresponding structural modal vibration. Considering other influencing factors in the field test, the modal identification results of this index under different excitation forms and noise conditions were analyzed based on numerical simulation and verified with field wind tower test data. The results of the evaluation show that the proposed statistical moments of Md32/7$M_d^{32/7}$ can accurately identify the first two vibration modes of wind turbine towers. ABSTRACT When a structure is randomly excited by its installation base, significant vibration stress may be caused within it, thus causing damage to the structure. The authors find in the vibration fatigue test that when the notched slender beam specimen is excited by stationary Gaussian random base movement, the measured acceleration response and strain response of the specimen have obvious nonstationary characteristics. The vibration responses of the specimen under Gaussian and non‐Gaussian random base excitations are calculated by the finite element method and corresponding vibration fatigue tests were completed. The nonstationary characteristics of the responses from calculations and experiments are analyzed. Finally, a method for calculating the fatigue life of the specimen under nonstationary response is given, and the calculated results are compared with the measured data. Floor impact noise is a significant social concern to secure a quiescent living space for multi-story building residents in South Korea. The floating floor, consisting of a concrete structure on resilient pads, is a specifically designed system to minimize noise transmission. This floating structure employs polymeric pads as the resilient materials. In this study, we investigated the utilization of helically shaped machining scraps as a resilient material for an alternative approach to floor noise reduction. The dynamic elastic modulus and loss factor of the scrap pads were measured using the vibration test method. The scrap pads exhibited a low dynamic elastic modulus and a high loss factor compared to the polymeric pads. Heavyweight impact sound experiments in an actual building were conducted to evaluate the noise reduction performance. The proposed pads showed excellent performance on the reduction in the structure-borne vibration of the concrete slab and resulting sound generation. The analytical model was used to simulate the response of the floating floor structure, enabling a parametric study to examine the effects of the resilient layer viscoelastic properties. Both experimental and analytical evidence confirmed that the proposed scrap pads contribute to the development of sustainable solutions for the minimization of floor impact noise. Monopterus albus is one of the popular aquatic fish in Asia. Manual processing of eel cannot fully meet the large- scale production at present, due to the time-consuming, laborious, and low safety. In view of its slender and slimy body, an eel- cutting machine is required for the consumption of Monopterus albus. In this study, a miniature machine of automatic cutting was designed for the living Monopterus albus with a sticky surface. The machine consisted of conveying, clamping, and cutting parts. The double-clamped wheel to roller was used to capture the eel for transportation during cutting. The switch between laparotomy and back dissection was realized to change the feeding channel. The adaptive mechanism was equipped to meet the requirements of different sizes of eel cutting. Firstly, the geometry and weight parameters of Monopterus albus were measured using a straight ruler and precision electronic balance. The tribological parameters on the surface of Monopterus albus were measured by the inclined plane. The mechanical parameters of Monopterus albus meat were verified by compression test. Secondly, according to the rigid-flexible coupling principle, the rigid-damping model was equivalent to the contact between the Monopterus albus body and the clamping wheel and slide. The rigid-flexible coupling model was established by Abaqus and Adams simulation software. The analysis model was optimized to take the conveying time of the fish body, output speed, clamping force, and whole machine vibration as the test indexes in single-factor tests, such as the spring stiffness, slope Angle of the slide, and the speed of the clamping wheel. The results show that the clamping force first increased and then decreased with the increase of spring stiffness and the vibration amplitude of the whole machine decreased. But there was little influence on conveying time and output speed. The output time of the fish body decreased with the increase of slope angle, while the output speed, clamping force, and vibration of the whole machine increased. There was an increase in the conveying time of the fish body, the output speed, the clamping force, and the vibration of the whole machine, with the increase of the speed of the clamping wheel. The single- and multi-factor analyses were carried out to obtain the optimal working conditions. Specifically, the clamping wheel speed was 600 r/min, the spring stiffness was 1 200 N/m, and the slope angle was 16°. Finally, the processing experiment was performed on the automatic cutting machine for eel. There was consistency in the vibration amplitude range and the relationship between the three directions of the machine measuring points with the theoretical analysis. At the same time, the output speed of the fish body output machine was also measured to better agree with the theoretical analysis. The cutting of the machine under optimal working conditions has fully met the requirements. The correctness of the theoretical analysis was also verified by the test. During the operation of a turbine, the water level drop can cause vibration and damage to the flow components, severely threatening its stability and reliability. Investigating the impact of operational parameters on the internal flow field and flow structures of tidal turbines under low flow conditions is crucial for peak shaving and deployment of tidal power stations. This paper takes a 24MW turbine as the research object, using numerical calculations to analyze the effects of tailwater height on the flow characteristics and structural properties of the unit under low flow conditions. It studies the hydraulic impact on the flow component walls under different operating parameters and verifies the reliability of numerical calculations through vibration and stress tests. The results show that the increase in tailwater level affects the turbine’s flow characteristics, forming large-scale, high-intensity vortices in the internal flow field and causing pressure pulsations near the wall surface. Modal analysis reveals that under different tailwater heights, the maximum modal effective mass exists along the axis of the impeller, with modal frequencies higher than the main frequencies of pressure pulsations. The impeller region corresponds to the turbine chamber wall bearing significant stress, which induces strain. The magnitude of stress and the degree of strain are positively correlated with the tailwater height. AbstractIn modern engineering practice, the simultaneous exposure to high temperatures and vibrations can threaten the security of the structure. In this paper, a novel additional damping structures with entangled metallic wire material (EMWM) are proposed and its vibration characteristics at high temperature are investigated. Firstly, a thermal/vibration coupling test platform of additional damping structures is designed and constructed, and a high-temperature vibration pickup method is adopted to extract the response signals. On this basis, the 5–400Hz frequency sweep tests are carried out under the unilateral constraint condition. The effects of excitation magnitude, ambient temperature and EMWM thickness on the vibration parameters are analyzed. The vibration performance is evaluated by modal identification and loss factor by half-power method. The results show that the damping performance of the constrained damping structure and insertion damping structure is better than that of the free damping structure under different excitation levels; the increase of the ambient temperature generates a greater influence on the vibration damping performance of the structure, but it still has a good stability; the amplitude change of the structure is more apparent through the increase of EMWM thickness, and the vibration damping performance is more superior. A vibration absorption meta-structure with strong nonlinear stiffness is proposed by combining concepts of the vibration absorber and meta-structure. An experimental setup comprising the meta-structure and a primary oscillator is designed. The results of ultraslow linear sweep and fixed-frequency harmonic excitation tests show that the meta-structure can suppress the vibrations of the primary oscillator with different stiffnesses. Moreover, the meta-structure changes the resonance frequency band of the test system to an acceptable range when softer springs are used in the primary oscillator. The primary oscillator and meta-structure have almost the same phase when the resonance occurs, resulting in an acceptable change. Another meta-structure mode is activated as its frequency increases, inducing an additional resonance band when a harder spring is attached. Furthermore, permanent magnets are installed in the meta-structure to form a bistable characteristic, and the influences of the number of magnets on the vibration reduction are analyzed. When the meta-structure has twelve magnets, the high-frequency resonance peak is eliminated because the magnets can suppress the second mode of the meta-structure. In order to effectively reduce the failure rate of vibrating screens, a vibration monitoring system design was proposed based on the structure and working principle. The system should be able to monitor the operating state of the vibrating screen in real time, including vibration amplitude, frequency, axial displacement, etc., and be able to detect abnormal conditions in time and give warning prompts. The key hardware of the monitoring system was designed, including acceleration sensor, power module, signal filtering circuit, etc. The sensitivity of the acceleration sensor was measured using comparative method and accurately completed parameter calibration. The eccentric block was used to simulate different deviation of excitation force for system vibration signal test and calibration. The results show that under normal operating conditions, the amplitude of each frequency of the vibrating screen is less than 0.04 g. Under the condition of excitation force deviation, the amplitude of 16 Hz is obviously lower than that of other frequencies, which means that the vibrating screen is currently experiencing lateral oscillation. In order to obtain the vibration response characteristics of the propeller spindle system effectively and accurately, and provide the basis for the subsequent fault diagnosis, the modal simulation and test of the spindle model were carried out. With the propeller set as eccentric mass, the amplitude and torsion angle of the spindle model were simulated under the condition of excited vibration and unexcited vibration respectively, and the frequency response of bending and torsion under the coupled condition was obtained. The newmark-β method was used to solve the transient response of the bent-torsional coupling model. The results shows that when the propeller spindle system undergoes rotation at a specific frequency and experiences bending vibration excitation force, the latter will induce torsional vibration response. Self-mixing interference (SMI) has emerged as a powerful non-contact vibration sensing technique, leveraging the inherent coupling between laser emission and external optical feedback. However, conventional SMI systems often face limitations in signal resolution and measurement accuracy, particularly when probing low-amplitude vibrations or low-reflectivity targets. This study proposes a frequency modulation (FM) approach, FM-SMI, to enhance the capabilities of SMI setups. By intentionally modulating the laser frequency of 20 kHz, the FM-SMI technique induces a segmentation of the interference signal, effectively increasing the temporal resolution and facilitating the detection of finer vibration details. Comprehensive experiments involving oscillating speakers and rotating silicon wafers validate the superior performance of the FM-SMI system. Notably, the frequency-modulated signals exhibit stability and robustness, even under low-amplitude vibration conditions or when targeting low-reflectivity surfaces. The enhanced signal quality, coupled with numerical processing techniques, enables precise extraction of vibration characteristics, including amplitude variations and surface topographies. This paper presents the design and validation of a high-precision angular vibration calibration system based on a laser vibrometer, aimed at meeting the high-precision requirements for measuring small angular vibrations. The system primarily consists of a self-driving angular vibration platform and a laser vibrometer. The platform is isolated from ground interference via an air-floating platform and uses a split-type motor to control the platform, generating specific angular vibrations. Detailed simulations of the platform's modal characteristics and the stability of the spring plates were conducted using the finite element analysis software ANSYS 11. Moreover, fundamental frequency testing and measurement accuracy testing were conducted on the system. Experimental results demonstrate that the system has a fundamental frequency of 2.69 Hz and a maximum measurement error of 0.00172″, confirming the system's effectiveness in dynamic characteristics, stability, and measurement accuracy. Radon is a natural radioactive gas, which has great radiation hazards. Mastering the radon exhalation law under complex conditions is of great significance to the safety and stability of uranium tailings pond. Based on the self-developed artificial microclimate chamber, the single factor influence of water content, temperature and crack rate of overburden soil on radon exhalation rate of uranium tailings pond was explored through simulation experiments, and the corresponding single factor mathematical model was obtained. The response surface model of radon exhalation rate was constructed by combining whale optimization algorithm to achieve accurate prediction of radon exhalation rate. The test results of simulated seismic station vibration test also confirm the scientificity of the model. Low-frequency vibration and noise control present enduring engineering challenges that garner extensive research attention. Despite numerous active and passive control solutions, achieving multiple ultra-wide attenuation regions remains elusive. Addressing vibration and noise control across a multidirectional broad low-frequency spectrum, three-dimensional metastructures have emerged as innovative solutions. This study introduces a novel three-dimensional composite metastructure featuring multiple ultra-wide three-dimensional complete band gaps. The research emphasizes the design strategy of elastic ligaments to achieve multiple ultra-wide attenuation regions spanning from 0.7 to 40 kHz. The band structures are elucidated through modal analysis and further substantiated by an analytical model based on a spring-mass chain with an additional resonator. The underlying physical mechanism for the formation of multiple ultra-wide band gaps is revealed through novel vibration modes from finite element analyses. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the distribution and the relative width of the ultra-wide band gaps can be tuned by modifying the geometric parameters of the metastructure. Utilizing additive manufacturing, prototypes are fabricated, and low-amplitude vibration tests are conducted to evaluate real-time vibration attenuation properties. Consistency is observed among theoretical, numerical, and experimental results. This paper presents a unique study on the dynamic identification of the tallest glue-laminated timber frame building in the world using forced vibration tests (FVTs) and long-term ambient vibration tests (AVTs). Because the amount of sway in service under wind has become the governing design criterion for tall timber buildings, this paper aims to provide useful information and evaluate available tools and methods for modal identification in tall glulam timber frame buildings. First, combined operational modal analysis schemes based on the variational mode decomposition with the stochastic subspace identification and the random decrement technique were adopted to identify the modal properties from nonstationary ambient data. Then, unique full-scale forced vibration tests were conducted using two different methods to excite the building: measured electrodynamic shakers excitation and unmeasured rhythmic human-induced excitation. Finally, a finite-element (FE) model of the tall glulam frame building was developed and frequency response function (FRF)–based model updating was conducted showing that the FE model was able to predict the modal behavior of the test building. The results show that natural frequencies identified from output-only techniques are in good agreement with the FVT results. Damping ratios obtained from both AVTs and FVTs exhibited amplitude-dependent behavior with a larger variation observed in the FVT results due to larger range of response amplitudes. These results have significant consequences for the design of tall timber buildings under serviceability-level loading, where damping plays an important role. The resulting damping ranges presented in this paper can serve as a useful guideline for practicing engineers in developing their prediction models of tall timber buildings under serviceability-level loading. The present investigation includes experimental and ANN-based intelligent modeling to explore the dynamic interference effect of closely positioned vibrating foundations placed on unreinforced and geogrid-reinforced soil beds. Large-scale field block vibration tests are conducted on isolated and interacting block footings placed on prepared foundation beds at IIT Kanpur, India. The dynamic interaction of various combinations of two-footing assemblies is examined where one footing (active footing) is excited with dynamic loadings, and the other (passive footing) carries static loadings. The tests involve three eccentric force settings for four distinct footing combinations at different clear spacings and reinforcement conditions. The responses of both footings are recorded at different loading frequencies. The interaction effect is presented in terms of the transmission ratio plotted against the frequency ratio. Additionally, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model is developed using the recorded field datasets to anticipate the dynamic interference effect. Space debris are a tangible risk for satellites in Earth orbits. Indeed, in the last decades fragmentation events have generated a large number of uncontrolled objects that have made the debris population grow. Modelling the space debris environment is becoming a fundamental task to evaluate the vulnerability of operational satellites, the probability of accidental collisions with uncontrolled objects, and the evolution of the debris population. With this aim, remote and in-situ measurements provide valuable data to tune the space debris population models and improve their reliability. While large satellites can be observed and tracked from ground, the sub-millimeter debris population requires in-situ measurements. In this context, in-orbit impact sensors are a key technology to obtain information about the sub-mm space debris environment. In this framework, a small-scale impact sensor sized to be integrated in a 2U CubeSat is being developed at the University of Padova. The sensor consists of a multitude of thin, conductive stripes arranged on a thin film of non-conductive material. When a debris hits the sensor, one or more stripes are severed, and the impact is detected. Moreover, the sensor design ensures low power consumption, making it feasible for CubeSat space missions. This work presents the latest outcomes obtained from the development of the sensor. Specifically, structural analyses are performed to assess that the sensor can withstand the launch loads, as well as thermal analyses to confirm its endurance capability with in-orbit temperatures. The number of expected impacts during the mission is predicted through orbital propagation, using state-of-the-art debris environment modelling tools. When the temporary backfilled subgrade is not sufficiently compacted, the result is low stiffness of the track system. Excessive deformation of railway tracks under the action of freight trains will aggravate track wear and reduce service life. However, traditional reinforcement technology to increase the stiffness of the track system is sometimes limited due to requirements of working space, efficiency, and little disturbance of the normal operation of the existing railway. Battered grouted helical piles (BGHP) are a kind of strengthening technology that has little influence on the existing railway and high construction efficiency. This paper presents a field case study of the implementation of BGHP to reinforce the freight railway subgrade. The paper evaluates the effect of the BGHP on the dynamic response of the treated subgrade. The subgrade soil was initially characterized by cone penetration tests at one location before BGHP reinforcement. The subgrade dynamic deformation modulus was measured before and after BGHP installation. In addition, the acceleration and velocity time histories of the subgrade were monitored during the passage of a freight train before and after BGHP reinforcement. The field measurement showed that the vibration acceleration, velocity, and displacement of the subgrade all decreased while the dynamic deformation modulus of the subgrade increased after BGHP reinforcement. Further, the vibration level reduced remarkably, mainly in the frequency band of 44.7 to 56.2 Hz, and the distribution of the normalized accumulated energy of velocity and acceleration was significantly influenced after BGHP reinforcement. Screening is a key step in the process of non-ferrous metal beneficiation, and the screen plate is an important carrier for the screening process. The design of the material characteristics of the screen plate is an effective means to improve screening efficiency. However, in industrial production, due to technical limitations such as pouring technology and testing methods, this difficult to accurately design the material characteristics of the screening plate. Based on this, this study proposes a dynamic design method for elastic screen plate material characteristics based on DEM-FEM, and constructs a coupled simulation calculation model for screening of fine grained ilmenite particles using DEM-FEM. The design criteria are the impact stress and the material screening percentage of the screen plate under different screening plate material characteristics. The optimal combination of the elastic screen plate material parameters for 3 mm screening of ilmenite is determined through dynamic design: material constants C10 is 1.76 and C01 is 0.44, elastic modulus is 13.23 MPa, and density is 1.30 g/cm³. Finally, a solid new screen plate was assembled on the HEWA3060 screening machine for vibration characteristics testing and 3 mm industrial screening verification experiment. When the screening machine processing capacity was 12t/(h ⋅ m²), the screening efficiency reached 92.14. To address the challenge of measuring the dynamic characteristic parameters of the gas turbine rotor system affected by hull excitation, a vibration transmission model integrating a ship model slice, test data, and a three-dimensional entity is proposed, based on the two-dimensional slice theory, scaled ship model, and finite element model of the turbine rotor system. The transient dynamic responses of the front and rear bearing points were calculated and analyzed. Vibration response tests with significant wave heights of 0.5 m, 1.25 m, 2.5 m, and 4 m were carried out in the towing tank of the ship model to obtain the dynamic characteristic parameters of the deck position. Techniques including wavelet denoising, Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), and signal resampling were employed to filter out and reconstruct high-frequency noise, overcoming the technical challenges of a high sampling frequency and a low computational efficiency. The experimental data and simulation results were compared and analyzed, validating the accuracy of the vibration transmission model of the turbine rotor system with data and entity integration. By comparing the vibration signal values in the X and Z directions at the front and rear bearing points after vibration transmission, it is evident that the effective values of the vibration signals at the front bearing point are 0.03% to 0.1% greater than those at the rear bearing point. Rail corrugation, one of the most common track damage problems in metro lines, has yet to be fundamentally resolved. To study the time-frequency domain characteristics of vehicle interior vibration and noise, as well as track structure vibration after rail corrugation occurs in different track structure types, and to investigate the effect of rail corrugation on vehicles and tracks, dynamic and static tests were conducted on a metro line. These tests measured the vibration and noise response inside the vehicle and the vibration response of track components under the rail corrugation excitation. Methods such as time-domain indicator statistics and 1/3-octave spectral analysis were used to analyze track vibration response characteristics and in-vehicle vibration and noise response characteristics. The results showed that on small radius curve sections, the floating slab track produced rail corrugation with a characteristic wavelength of about 200 mm, while the overall track bed produced rail corrugation with a characteristic wavelength of about 60 mm. The root mean square (RMS) value of the rail, slab, and tunnel wall vibration acceleration in the floating slab track were 1. 8, 5. 8, and 0. 3 times those of the overall track bed, respectively. The influence of rail corrugation on track vibration was mainly reflected in the mid-to-high frequency range. Around 300~400 Hz, the vibration level of floating slab track attenuated by 66 dB from the rail to the tunnel wall, while the overall track bed attenuated by 49 dB. When the train passed through the test area, the RMS values of vertical and longitudinal vibration acceleration above the bogie and in the middle of the carriage were almost the same, while the RMS value of lateral vibration acceleration in the middle of the carriage was about twice that above the bogie. The abnormal vibration at the bogie position inside the vehicle mainly originated from the excitation of the rail corrugation, and the vehicle's vibration and noise were more intense under the excitation of shortwavelength corrugation. Therefore, rail corrugation in metro systems becomes a major component in both the vibration and noise response of tracks and vehicles after it occurs, and rails should be ground in time. Vortex-induced vibration is a type of wind-induced vibration occurring frequently in large-span sea-crossing bridges under relatively low wind speeds, posing a threat to the structural fatigue performance and driving comfort. Identifying the instantaneous occurrence moments of vortex-induced vibration is a prerequisite for establishing a data-driven prediction model for vortex-induced vibration, and it is of great significance for the monitoring and early warning of vortex-induced vibration performance in bridges. To automatically detect the occurrence moments of vortex-induced vibration and establish a correlation model between vortex-induced vibration amplitude and environmental factors, this study proposes a fuzzy C-means clustering-based classification method. In order to detect the occurrence moments of vortex-induced vibration more finely, only short-term or even instantaneous structural vibration indicators were selected and transformed for distribution as clustering features. The entire detection process could be carried out unsupervised, reducing the manual cost of obtaining vortex-induced vibration information from massive monitoring data. Finally, actual vortex-induced vibration test data from a certain overseas bridge was utilized to verify the feasibility of this method. Based on the classification results, the correlation between vortex-induced vibration amplitude and environmental variables was determined, providing valuable guidance for predicting vortex-induced vibration amplitudes. The Impact Vibration Test (IVT) is an effective, accurate, and fast non-destructive evaluation method to indicate the technical condition of structures through the consideration of the health index. This index is the ratio of measured and designed natural frequencies in the absence of the original measured frequency. However, the determination of the natural frequency of the berth's segments in both numerical and experimental approaches is expensive and time-consuming work. This motivated the present study to develop formulas that allow quick estimation of the natural frequency of the berth's segments based on one of the horizontal frames under various conditions and cases. In order to execute this task, different wharves with various working levels, geological conditions, characteristics, and spring coefficients were examined. A case study for a wharf under a real incident is also provided to show the procedure and demonstrate its effectiveness. Interestingly, the natural frequency of the horizontal frame can be obtained quickly and simply in comparison with that of the berth's segment. Critical structures such as hospitals, high-precision manufacturing facilities, telecommunications centers, and fire stations, especially, need to maintain their functionality even during severe earthquakes. In this sense, seismic isolation technology serves as a vital design method for preserving their functionality. Seismic isolators, also known as earthquake isolation systems, are used to reduce the effects of earthquakes on buildings by isolating them from the ground they are located on. By ensuring that less acceleration and force demand is transmitted to the superstructure, both the building and the equipment and the devices in the building are prevented from being damaged by earthquakes. This experimental study aims to conduct vibration tests on a small-scale multi-story steel-building model equipped with a specially designed rolling-type seismic base isolation system. The relationship between the test model and the prototype was achieved by frequency simulation. The tests will be performed on a shake table under six different earthquake accelerations to examine the model's dynamic behavior. The primary goal is to evaluate the isolation performance of the rolling-type seismic base isolator under seismic loads, with a focus on recording the vibrations at the top of the test building. It has been observed that the isolator placed at the base of the building significantly reduced the peak acceleration and displacement values of the floor motion. Under the most severe earthquake record applied to the shake table, the acceleration at the top of the building with the isolator was found to be reduced by approximately 50%, compared to the non-isolated case. Battery management systems (BMSs) play a vital role in understanding battery performance under extreme conditions such as high C-rate testing, where rapid charge or discharge is applied to batteries. This study presents a novel BMS tailored for continuous monitoring, transmission, and storage of essential parameters such as voltage, current, and temperature in an NCA 18650 4S lithium-ion battery (LIB) pack during high C-rate testing. By incorporating deep learning, our BMS monitors external battery parameters and predicts LIB's health in terms of discharge capacity. Two experiments were conducted: a static experiment to validate the functionality of BMS, and an in operando experiment on an electrically propelled vehicle to assess real-world performance under high C-rate abuse testing with vibration. It was found that the external surface temperatures peaked at 55 °C during in operando flight, which was higher than that during static testing. During testing, the deep learning capacity estimation algorithm detected a mean capacity deviation of 0.04 Ah, showing an accurate state of health (SOH) by predicting the capacity of the battery. This manuscript is a follow up study to Hogan et al., (2024, https://doi.org/10.1029/2023JA032221) which describes the science motivation and development of the Medium Energy Electron Telescope (MEET). Medium Energy Electron Telescope is a 1U instrument optimized to measure 30–400 keV electrons in the inner radiation belt with fine energy resolution to resolve dynamics of these populations which are not well understood. Here we present the fabrication and testing of MEET to certify its performance in preparation for in‐space measurements. Assembly of an engineering model is shown. This unit has undergone vibration testing and these results are discussed. The electronics of the instrument are tested after these environmental tests including electron measurements with pulse injection and a radioactive source. Test results indicate the instrument is viable for flight on a potential mission by satisfying noise requirements and reproduction of an input flux spectrum. The noise of expected input signals is quantified to be <∼6 keV allowing for <20% dE/E for 30 keV electrons. Strontium‐90 radioactive source tests were conducted. Using measured count rates from MEET's electron energy channels, we reproduce the strontium‐90 spectrum proving the instrument's ability to measure flux of 30–800 keV electrons with fine nominal energy resolution (<20% dE/E for <60 keV, and <10% for >60 keV electrons). These results demonstrate MEET's performance in a relevant environment via ground testing. The thickening mill equipment installed on the second floor is damage for the structural and personal health. In this study, the vibration conditions of thickening mill equipment and its vibration isolating based on MR damper technology are investigated experimentally and simulacrum. First, the vibration test of thickening mill equipment installed on rigid foundations is operated, and the results show that while the rigid foundation can suppress equipment vibration, it also deteriorates vibration transmission to the ground, which results in vibration displacement of the ground exceeds the permissible range by 120%. Second, a MR damper utilized to form the elastic foundation is tested to acquire the force–velocity characteristics, which is described by the proposed Bingham model. The comparison results between the model predicted and measurement data delicate that can effectively describe the correlation between the dynamic properties of MR damper and the coil current/excitation conditions. Finally, an elastic foundation consisting of eight coil springs and several MR dampers is proposed to replace the rigid foundation of the thickening mill equipment. Together with the ON–OFF skyhook control algorithm, the properties of the elastic foundation to reduce the force transmission rates are tested based on the simulation model. The simulation results suggest that the designed elastic foundation can effectively reduce the vibration transmission from the thickening mill equipment to the ground, which can decrease the peak force transmission rate by 95.5%. This article studies the vibrational behavior of composite conical-cylindrical shells (CCSs) with functionally graded coatings (FGCs) in thermal environments using the first-order shear deformation theory. Firstly, the equivalent material parameters, fundamental frequency, and resonant displacement responses of the CCSs with FGCs are derived using the mixture principle, complex modulus method, and transfer function approach. Then, detailed thermal vibration tests are performed on CCS structures with and without coatings to assess the reliability of the proposed model, revealing that the current model accurately forecasts the thermal vibration behavior of the CCSs with FGCs. Finally, the effect of key parameters on the vibrational properties of the CCSs with FGCs is investigated. The results demonstrate that increasing the functionally graded index, coating thickness, and Young's modulus ratio can greatly enhance the vibration suppression capability of the structure. Although the physical properties of a structure, such as stiffness, can be determined using some statical tests, the identification of damping parameters requires a dynamic test. In general, both theoretical prediction and experimental identification of damping are quite difficult. There are many different techniques available for damping identification, and each method gives a different damping parameter. The dynamic indentation method, rheometry, atomic force microscopy, and resonant vibration tests are commonly used to identify the damping of materials, including soft materials. While the viscous damping ratio, loss factor, complex modulus, and viscosity are quite common to describe the damping of materials, there are also other parameters, such as the specific damping capacity, loss angle, half-power bandwidth, and logarithmic decrement, to describe the damping of various materials. Often, one of these parameters is measured, and the measured parameter needs to be converted into another damping parameter for comparison purposes. In this review, the theoretical derivations of different parameters for the description and quantification of damping and their relationships are presented. The expressions for both high damping and low damping are included and evaluated. This study is considered as the first comprehensive review article presenting the theoretical derivations of a large number of damping parameters and the relationships among many damping parameters, with a quantitative evaluation of accurate and approximate formulas. This study investigates the electromechanical performance of piezoelectric sandwich plates both numerically and experimentally. The effect of different inner design parameters, namely the length-to-thickness, core-to-face thickness, boundary conditions and aspect ratio on both the eigenfrequency and electric potential attributes is assessed. Moreover, vibration amplitude-dependent effects are investigated. Polymer-based, sandwich plates are additively manufactured (AM) and commercially available PZT layers are surface-bonded and experimentally probed. AM smart plates are found to yield comparable eigenfrequency properties with the ones reported for fiber-reinforced smart sandwich composites. Fiber‐reinforced elastic laminated composites are extensively used in several domains owing to their high specific stiffness and strength and low specific density. Several studies were performed to ascertain the factors that affect the composite plates' dynamic properties. This study aims to derive a mathematical model for the dynamic response of the processed composite material in the form of an annular circular shape made of polyester/E‐glass composite. The mathematical model was developed based on modified classical annular circular plate theory under dynamic loading, and all its formulas were solved using MATLAB 2023. The mathematical model was also verified with real experimental work involving the vibration test of the fabricated composite plate. The composite plate was processed by reinforcing the polyester matrix with E‐glass fibers with a 50% volume fraction each by using the handy lay‐up method. After fabrication, the composite plate was tested with a universal vibration tester, where the plate was impacted and released to free vibration, and the deflection was measured experimentally to compare it with the theoretical value calculated from the derived model. The plate was tested under two boundary conditions, namely, simply and built‐in supported. The findings show good agreement between theoretical and experimental plate deflections at different angles, particularly at built‐in supported boundary conditions. Also, a higher natural frequency was recorded at this condition compared to others, and this may be ascribed to the higher shear stresses involved due to large moments at the ends along with supporting. The health of mechanical components can be assessed by analyzing the vibration and acoustic signals they produce. These signals contain valuable information about the component's condition, often encoded within specific frequency bands. However, extracting this information is challenging due to noise contamination from various sources. Narrow-band amplitude demodulation presents a robust technique for isolating fault-related information within the signal. This work proposes a novel approach based on cluster-based segmentation for demodulating the signal and extracting the frequency band of interest. The segmentation process leverages the criteria of maximum L-kurtosis and minimum entropy. L-kurtosis maximizes impulsiveness in the signal, while minimum entropy signifies a low degree of randomness and high cyclo-stationarity, and both characteristics are crucial for identifying the desired frequency band. Simulations and experimental tests using vibration signals from different gears demonstrate the effectiveness of this technique. The processed envelope of the signal exhibits distinct improvements, highlighting the ability to accurately extract the fault-related information embedded within the complex noise-ridden signals. This approach offers a promising solution for accurate and efficient fault diagnosis in mechanical systems, contributing to enhanced reliability and reduced downtime. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

As a critical component of substations, the substation frames are characterized by significant height and span, which presents substantial challenges and risks in conducting dynamic response tests using traditional sensors. To simplify these difficulties, this paper introduces an experimental method utilizing MEMS sensor-based vibration acquisition. In this approach, smartphones equipped with MEMS sensors are deployed on the target structure to collect vibration data under environmental excitation. This method was applied in a dynamic field test of a novel composite substation frame. During the test, the proposed MEMS-based vibration acquisition method was conducted in parallel with traditional ultra-low-frequency vibration acquisition methods to validate the accuracy of the MEMS data. The results demonstrated that the MEMS sensors not only simplified the testing process but also provided reliable data, offering greater advantages in testing convenience compared with traditional contact methods. The modal parameters of the substation frame, including modal frequencies, damping ratios, and mode shapes, were subsequently identified using the covariance-driven stochastic subspace identification method. The experimental methodology and findings presented in this paper offer valuable insights for structural dynamic response testing and the wind-resistant design of substation frames. In this study, a new flexible screen surface structure with an additional striking beam was proposed for improved efficiency and addressing the clogging issue while processing moist coal material. Vibration tests were used to analyze the time-frequency characteristics of the screen surface and the striking beam under no-load and load conditions. The effects of different process parameters on the elastic screening effect of viscous and wet materials were explored. Further, the industrial application of the equipment was preliminarily carried out. The results showed that the load did not affect the main vibration frequency of the elastic screen surface and the striking beam. When the axis distance was adjusted to 7.5 cm, the displacement from the feeding end to the discharge end gradually decreased, promoting the rapid loosening and stratification of the material group. Semi-industrial tests showed that the optimal screening effects had a screening efficiency of 92.16% and a total misplaced content of 5.95% when exciting force was 18 kN, the exciting frequency was 10.8 Hz, the feeding rate was 9.36 t/h, the distance was 7.5 cm, and the moisture content was 8.21%. The GQPSS1848 vibrating screen applied in the industry achieved a screening efficiency of 86.66% at a processing capacity of 85 t/h with a broad commercial prospect. The study aims to provide theoretical and technical support for the research and development of flexible screening equipment and the efficient classification of −3 mm sticky and wet materials.
