Tarımsal yayım eğitimi, tarımsal üretimde toplam üretim miktarı, üretim deseninin çeşitlenmesi ve üretici gelirinin yükseltilmesi gibi hızlandırıcı fonksiyonlara sahiptir. Tarımsal yayımın konuları ve ilgi alanları dinamik ve çeşitlidir. Bu çalışmada Diyarbakır ilinde sebze üreticilerinin tarımsal yayım çalışmalarından faydalanma düzeyleri ve karşılaştıkları sorunların tespit edilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmada üreticilerin %39.1' i tarım teşkilatı ile irtibatlı olmadıkları görülmüştür. İrtibatlı olan % 60.6 üreticinin sadece % 11.9' unun bilgi almak için tarım teşkilatına gittiği görülmüştür. Tarım teşkilatına bilgi almak için giden üretici sayısı yüksek olmamakla birlikte üreticiler bilgi almak istedikleri kurumlar sıralamasında ilk sıraya %38.8 oranla ziraat fakültesini, ikinci sıraya %36.2 oranla tarım teşkilatını koydukları görülmüştür. Bu durum tarım teşkilatının eğitim yayım hizmetlerini etkin bir şekilde yerine getirmesi konusunda bir talebin var olduğu şeklinde yorumlanmıştır. Education of agricultural extension has accelerated functions such as amount of total production, the diversification of production patterns and to raise the income producers in agrıcultural production. Agricultural extension topics and areas of interest is dynamic and diverse. This study is aimed to obtain the beneficial situation and the problems of vegetable producers in agricultural education and extension in Diyarbakir city. In this study, 39.1% of the producers did not related with agricultural ministry. The 11.9% producers in 60.0% those are related with agricultural ministry went to this institute to get information. And also this was obtained; while the high percentage of producers getting information from agrıculture ministry, they want to get information firstly from agriculture faculty (38.8%) and secondly from agricultural ministry (36.2). This has been interpreted as the education of agricultural extension services organization exists to fulfill a requirement for effectively.

A new generation of information and communication technologies (ICTs) is finding a small foothold among poor, small-scale farmers in developing countries. Even so, many barriers still prevent poor rural people from accessing, using, and benefiting from new ICT tools and platforms, and those barriers are arguably higher for rural women. The relationship between gender and agriculture has been studied intensively over the years, and many agricultural interventions now include gender as a crosscutting issue or mainstream gender throughout their operations. Studies of the relationship between gender and the use of ICTs in agriculture have started to appear only quite recently, however. The Africa Region of the World Bank views ICTs as potentially transformative technology for rural development and seeks to incorporate the use of ICTs throughout its portfolio of projects. The present study was designed to examine the feasibility of integrating ICTs into two large investment programs: the Irrigation Development and Support Project (IDSP) in Zambia and the Kenya Agricultural Productivity and Agribusiness Project (KAPAP). The specifi c goal was to examine how ICT-based interventions might be designed to strengthen women s participation in commodity value chains under the two projects.

In this context, the issue that guides this study is to answer whether the horizontal cooperation networks which are set up among the family producers of vegetables really allow them to aggregate value to production and whether the values occasionally aggregated are captured by them as well. In order to answer it, a theoretical matrix was used, where it is discussed the importance of the collective action and the cooperation networks as a governance structure which encourage the family agriculture and, thus, the rural development. In the empirical approach, a study of multi-case of two organizations was carried out, a cooperative and an association of producers that gathers vegetable producers. As a result, it is noticed that the strategies developed by means of both organizations allowed the farmers to have the aggregation and the value capture. The participation in the cooperative provided to the producers gains resulting from the transference of technology and scale extension in vegetable production. In regard to the association, the value aggregation mainly resulted from the access to more profitable distribution channels and from processes of product differentiation. In both cases, it is also evidenced the value capture translated by the extension of the farmers average income and other indicators described in this study as well. However, it was possible to identify that, in spite of the gains provided to the farmers, the studied organizations face problems of economic competitiveness and viability of the same ones which were pointed out in this study. On the basis of such information, at the end of this essay, some suggestions were formulated in order to contribute with the improvement of the farmers income and the sustainability of the studied organizations. A participação em redes de cooperação horizontal é sugerida por diversos autores como uma importante estratégia para que produtores rurais de pequeno porte econômico sob gestão familiar possam manter ou melhorar a rentabilidade de seus empreendimentos. Neste contexto, a questão que norteia esse estudo é responder se as redes de cooperação horizontal estabelecidas entre produtores familiares de hortaliças realmente lhes permitem agregar valor à produção e também se os valores eventualmente agregados são capturados pelos mesmos. Para respondê-la utilizou-se uma matriz teórica que discute a relevância da ação coletiva e das redes de cooperação como estrutura de governança que estimula a agricultura familiar e, assim, o desenvolvimento rural. Na aproximação empírica efetuou-se um estudo de multicaso de duas organizações, uma cooperativa e uma associação de produtores que congregam produtores de hortaliças. Como resultado, observa-se que as estratégias desenvolvidas por intermédio de ambas as organizações permitiram aos agricultores a agregação e captura de valor. A participação na cooperativa proporcionou aos produtores ganhos decorrentes da transferência de tecnologia e ampliação de escala na produção de hortaliças. No caso da associação, a agregação de valor derivou principalmente do acesso a canais de distribuição mais rentáveis e de processos de diferenciação dos produtos. Nos dois casos evidencia-se também a captura de valor traduzida pela ampliação da renda média dos agricultores e também por outros indicadores descritos neste trabalho. Entretanto foi possível identificar que, apesar dos ganhos proporcionados aos agricultores, as organizações estudadas deparam-se com problemas de competitividade e viabilidade econômica. Com base em tais informações, no final desta dissertação, formularam-se algumas sugestões no sentido de contribuir com a melhoria da renda dos produtores e também com a sustentabilidade das organizações estudadas.

This paper is meant to share results with the academic community, specialists and agricultural management experts, this results are related to the Project “Análisis y Propuestas para el Desarrollo Organizacional de la Integradora de la Frontera Sur, S.A. de C.V.” (Analysis and proposals for the Organization Development of Integradora de la Frontera Sur, S.A. de C.V.). This project was sponsored by Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas and by Campesinos Unidos de Comitán, which is a private association of producers. This borderland is located in southern Mexico in the State of Chiapas and specifically in the municipalities of Tzimol, La Trinitaria, Comitán y La Independencia, where the producers organization has its own greenhouses and commercialization places. The project focused on analysing and studying the specific business activities that some companies develop in order to generate business management knowledge. There were involved activities related to research, teaching and entailment. This means; research activity was of main interest, but the team also promoted teaching and entailment activities. In this sense, the general objective, which guided the work, it was analyzed the management status of La Integradora de la Frontera Sur, S.A. de C.V. This analysis took place in the light of the theories related to Business Administration to generate tangible proposals to improve it. Particular objectives were to propose specific management strategies and to develop a short training program. The scheme of work was raised from the participant focus; this means the owners were given a relevant participant role during the process. This way they could promote and include their point of view regarding tangible proposals. This is relevant in the light of the actor oriented development theory. In the process of diagnosis, the company defined as a priority for the current stage of its organizational development topics regarding human resources (especially about new personnel), control sales and advertising their products. This document focuses on the two first topics that have been developed at this point of the first stage of the research work.

In order to study the impact of the rise in prices of vegetables on vegetable producers, and to increase the revenue of vegetable producers, this paper does a survey by anonymous sampling questionnaire. Results shows that: most vegetable growers think that vegetable prices should rise and would continue to rise, and that vegetable prices would increase their revenue, thus in the coming year they would expand the planting scale of vegetable variety whose increase rate is the largest in this year. But because of the increase of logistics costs and production costs, some farmers benefit very little from the rising trend of vegetable prices. Most farmers expect too much in the trend estimation of the prices of vegetables and also lack of planning and forward-looking in production, thus the planting area of single variety is often decided by the market of previous year. According to analysis of the impact of the rise in vegetable prices on vegetable producer behavior, this paper gives the following suggestions to increase revenue of vegetable producers: change the mode of thinking, improve rural information platform, and increase capital investment for vegetable production base.

Poucos trabalhos têm avaliado a contaminação de hortaliças nos locais de produção, no Brasil. De abril de 1996 a dezembro de 1997, investigou-se as condições sanitárias de hortaliças consumidas cruas, vendidas na Feira do Produtor de Maringá. Para isso, analisou-se a contaminação de hortaliças, de produtores (fezes e depósito subungueal) e da água utilizada na irrigação. Observou-se que 16,6% das 144 amostras de cinco diferentes hortaliças estavam contaminadas por enteroparasitas. De 163 indivíduos analisados, 43 (26%) apresentaram um ou mais parasitas. Só 3 depósitos subungueais foram positivos para enteroparasitas entre os 49 analisados. O resultado da análise de amostras de água utilizadas na irrigação das hortaliças não satisfez os padrões bacteriológicos de potabilidade. Conclui-se que, na região investigada, a contaminação de hortaliças se deu na fase de produção e que é necessário uma campanha de esclarecimento aos produtores. Few studies have assessed the contamination of vegetables at Brazilian production sites. From April 1996 to December of 1997, the sanitary conditions of raw consumed vegetables sold in the Feira do Produtor de Maringá were investigated. We based the analyses on the contamination of vegetables, of the producers (stool samples and material under the fingernails) and of the water used for irrigation. It was observed that 16.6% of 144 samples of five different types of vegetables were contaminated with intestinal parasites. Forty three of 163 individuals (26%) were infected with one or more parasites. Only three of the 49 samples of material under the fingernails analyzed were positive for intestinal parasites. Analysis of samples of the water used for vegetable irrigation showed that the water did not satisfy bacteriological standards of potability. We conclude that in the investigated area the contamination of vegetables occurred during the production phase and that a sanitary education campaign directed at the producers is needed.
