Acid and peroxide values are important indicators to evaluate the hydrolysis or oxidation level of vegetable oil. In order to achieve rapid determination of these parameters by Raman spectroscopy, rapeseed and soybean oil were analyzed, and a competitive adaptive reweighted sampling-back propagation neural network (CARS-BPNN) method was developed. First, the Raman spectrum was preprocessed to reduce noise using moving window smoothing. Next, competitive adaptive reweighted sampling (CARS), successive projections algorithm (SPA), and uninformative variable elimination (UVE) was applied to extract the Raman characteristic information that indicated the acid and peroxide values. Based on the extracted characteristic information, back propagation neural network (BPNN), partial least squares regression (PLSR), and support vector machine (SVM) prediction models were established and compared. The results showed that the best accuracy was obtained using CARS-BPNN. For rapeseed oil, the coefficients of determination (R2) of acid value and peroxide value were 0.9207 and 0.9772. The root mean square error (RMSE) values were 0.0909 and 0.0022, respectively. For soybean oil, the coefficients of determination (R2) of acid and peroxide values were 0.9381 and 0.9716. The RMSE values were 0.1250 and 0.0027, respectively. A good correlation coefficient and a small RMSE value were obtained. The results indicate that Raman spectroscopy combined with CARS-BPNN accurately evaluated the acid and peroxide values, which provides a reference for the optimization of the Raman spectrum and creates a new approach for the evaluation of vegetable oil quality. This study concentrates on the utility of the newly formulated machining fluid used for turning AISI 4340 steel under the near dry machining method. The preparation of the novel machining fluid involves a blending of vegetable oils and conventional lubricant in a 50:50 ratio. Three distinct compositions were investigated within this work. The biodegradability tests confirms that the novel lubricantaligns with the ethos of "Green Machining." The study's focal points include an analysis of the following crucial metrics – machining force, machining temperature, and surface finish. From the analysis, the best-formulated blend was identified. To evaluate its performance, the variance analysis on the dataset (ANOVA) and Weighted Entropy decision-making method that ranks the best option along with alternatives was executed. Introduction: Plant essential oils (PEOs) have received significant attention in animal production due to their diverse beneficial properties and hold potential to alleviate weaning stress. However, PEOs effectiveness is often compromised by volatility and degradation. Microencapsulation can enhance the stability and control release rate of essential oils. Whether different microencapsulation techniques affect the effectiveness remain unknown. This study aimed to investigate the effects of PEOs coated by different microencapsulation techniques on growth performance, immunity, and intestinal health of weaned Tibetan piglets. Methods: A total of 120 Tibetan piglets, aged 30 days, were randomly divided into five groups with four replicates, each containing six piglets. The experimental period lasted for 32 days. The groups were fed different diets: a basal diet without antibiotics (NC), a basal diet supplemented with 10 mg/kg tylosin and 50 mg/ kg colistin sulfate (PC), 300 mg/kg solidified PEO particles (SPEO), 300 mg/kg cold spray-coated PEO (CSPEO), or 300 mg/kg hot spray-coated PEO (HSPEO). Results: The results showed that supplementation with SPEO, CSPEO, or HSPEO led to a notable decrease in diarrhea incidence and feed to gain ratio, as well as duodenum lipopolysaccharide content, while simultaneously increase in average daily gain, interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels and the abundance of ileum Bifidobacterium compared with the NC group (p < 0.05). Supplementation with SPEO, CSPEO, or HSPEO significantly elevated serum immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels and concurrently reduced serum lipopolysaccharide and interferon γ levels compared with the NC and PC groups (p < 0.05). Serum insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) levels in the SPEO and HSPEO groups significantly increased compared with the NC group (p < 0.05). Additionally, CSPEO and HSPEO significantly reduced jejunum pH value (p < 0.05) compared with the NC and PC groups (p<0.05). Additionally, Supplementation with HSPEO significantly elevated levels of serum immunoglobulin M (IgM) and interleukin-4 (IL-4), abundance of ileum Lactobacillus, along with decreased serum interleukin-1 beta (IL-1β) levels compared with both the NC and PC groups. Discussion: Our findings suggest that different microencapsulation techniques affect the effectiveness. Dietary supplemented with PEOs, especially HSPEO, increased growth performance, improved immune function, and optimized gut microbiota composition of weaned piglets, making it a promising feed additive in piglet production. Zeolite imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) were composited with NaY zeolite using two different approaches to the ship‐in‐bottle method. The two synthesized nanocatalysts showed that the ZIF‐8 composite with NaY zeolite could stabilize their structure as catalysts in an acidic environment. The NaY@ZIF‐8 nanocomposites that were prepared were investigated using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), X‐ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET), elemental mapping (MAP), thermogravimetric (TGA), temperature‐programmed desorption of ammonia (NH3‐TPD), and inductively coupled plasma analyses. The synthesized composites were used as catalysts for the esterification reaction of acetic acid with four different alcohols and the transesterification reaction of animal fats, vegetable oils, and waste oils. The results show that the efficiency of the esterification reactions for the two catalytic composites was 98.5% and 94.3%, respectively, and 78.1% for the transesterification reaction. Spent bleaching clay (SBC) is a hazardous waste produced by vegetable oil refining industries. SBC contains a residual oil (RO) with a lot of organic and inorganic impurities and its disposal leads to severe environmental consequences. In this study, SBC regeneration by extraction, acid modification and pyrolysis under various conditions and biodiesel production were studied. The GC-MS of the extracted RO shows that the fatty acid content is in conformity with crude oil and is appropriate for biodiesel production. FTIR was recorded in order to evaluate the main functional groups of fresh-, spent-, regenerated bleaching clay. The specific surface area (SSA) of fresh bleaching clay (FBC) (166.1 ± 1.7 m2/g) was lower than regenerated bleaching clay (RBC) one. The highest SSA (252.1 ± 1.7 m2/g) was revealed by pyrolysis at 550°C and activation with 10% sulfuric acid. Subsequent increase in the acid concentration and temperature of pyrolysis caused a decrease in the SSA. The heavy metals concentration in RBC was lower than the limits for activated bleaching clay in the National Food Safety Standard. Hence, RBC effectively copes with heavy metal removal. The peroxide, anisidine, acid values and oxidation stability of oil bleached with RBC are comparable to the FBC. Implications: The disposal of spent bleaching clay from vegetable oil refining industries has been recognized as a significant environmental issue. After adsorbing the impurities, spent bleaching clay becomes contaminated with a high concentration of organic and inorganic substances, including residual oils, fatty acids, phospholipids, and potentially toxic heavy metals. This makes spent bleaching clay a hazardous waste and improper disposal can lead to severe environmental consequences. Due to the potential environmental harm caused by spent bleaching clay disposal, it is crucial for vegetable oil refining industries to adopt proper waste management practices. Summary: Cooking is an essential aspect of everyday life. Cooking oils and methods exert enormous effects on the nutritional, physicochemical, microbial qualities, and bioactive compounds of vegetables. Most of them are either directly or indirectly related to human health. Hence, the present investigation was undertaken to find out the effect of two cooking methods (traditional and steam cooking) and four selected culinary oils (soybean oil, mustard oil, extra virgin olive oil, and extra virgin coconut oil) on the cooked vegetables. The results indicated that steam‐cooked mixed vegetables retained more nutrients than traditional ones. The traditional cooking method of preparing mixed vegetables with soybean oil revealed higher amounts of crude fat, 26.90 ± 0.10%, whereas steam cooking and traditionally cooked vegetables without oils showed lower amounts of crude fat, 1.21 ± 0.04%, and 1.94 ± 0.04%, respectively. The highest crude fibre from 5.68 ± 0.20 to 6.48 ± 0.02% was recorded by the steam‐cooked vegetables in comparison with traditionally prepared mixed vegetables. Traditionally cooked vegetables with mustard oil showed a higher crude protein (13.30 ± 0.10%). The mixed vegetables that were steam‐cooked using extra virgin olive oil revealed a decreased percent of carbohydrates, 49.42 ± 0.03%. Most of the essential minerals especially for the human body like Ca, Mg, Fe, Cu, and Zn were found notable in both traditional and steam‐cooking processes using extra virgin olive oil, and mustard oil. The leading bioactive compound ß‐carotene 67.04 ± 0.04 mg/100 g was noted by the steam‐cooked vegetables with mustard oil. The highest anthocyanin 32.69 ± 0.02 mg/100 g and ascorbic acid 42.31 ± 0.01 mg/100 g were recorded in the steam‐cooked vegetables without culinary oils. Steam‐cooking with extra virgin coconut and olive oil resulted in high total carotenoid and phenolic content (31.60 ± 0.05 and 3.11 ± 0.04 mg/100 g, respectively). However, the findings suggest that culinary oils used in the present study retained more essential minerals and bioactive compounds than soybean oil. To achieve efficient utilization of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) materials, a bioregenerant (BR) was developed in this research, and waste vegetable oil (WVO), alkylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (APEO), plasticizer [tributyl acetylcitrate (ATBC)] and tackifying resin (FTR) were chosen as components of the regenerant. The composition ratio of BR was designed based on the response surface method (RSM), and the optimal BR dosage and the regeneration effect of BR on the bioregenerated mixture (BRM) with different RAP contents were determined and investigated. Results showed that the optimal composition ratio of BR was found to be WVO-APEO-ATBC-FTR=100:2:23:10. The addition of BR significantly reduced the high-temperature stability and aging resistance of the mixture, but improved its low-temperature cracking resistance and fatigue resistance. Additionally, BR prominently contributed to the improvement for the water stability of the regenerated mixture, and its regeneration effect was found to be similar to that of two commercial regenerants, although excessive BR led to the decline of water stability. Moreover, the high-temperature stability and aging resistance of BRM when mixed with 20%, 30%, and 40% RAP were similar to those of the new asphalt mixture (NAM). At 20%, 30%, and 40% RAP content, both the low-temperature cracking resistance and fatigue resistance of BRM met the requirements. However, when the RAP content exceeded 40%, the water stability of BRM went beyond the specification limit. Taking into account the overall road performance, it is suggested that the optimal BR dosage is 5%–9%, and the maximum RAP content ensuring the road performance of BRM meets the requirements is 40%. These research findings will contribute to addressing the stacking problem of reclaimed asphalt pavement materials and environmental pollution, aligning with green and environmentally friendly sustainable development principles. Canola (Brassica napus L. and B. rapa L. [Brassicales: Brassicaceae]) is a major oilseed crop grown globally as a source of vegetable oil, animal feed and biofuel feedstock. The global demand for canola oil as a biofuel feedstock has increased due to recent regulations in the European Union, United States, and Canada. In North America, canola production is centered on the northern Great Plains where it is challenged by two highly destructive flea beetle species, the crucifer (Phyllotreta cruciferae Goeze, 1777) and the striped (Phyllotreta striolata Fabricius, 1803) flea beetles. In the spring, adult P. cruciferae and P. striolata begin feeding on canola seedlings, creating a 'shot hole' appearance, which can reduce the plant's photosynthetic capacity leading to uneven plant emergence and growth, reduced plant stand density, and reduced seed yield. Losses resulting from flea beetles are estimated in the tens of millions of dollars annually. At present, the principle means for flea beetle control are insecticides applied as systemic seed treatments and/or subsequent foliar sprays. The continued use of these products is being questioned due to environmental concerns and acquisition of resistance. As such, significant research effort is being directed toward the development of an integrated pest management system for these abundant and hard to manage pests of canola. Here, we review the ecology, pest status, and management of flea beetles in North America and discuss future research needed to promote flea beetle management and sustainable canola production. Vegetable fats and oils are prone to contamination by mineral oil hydrocarbons due to the lipophilic and ubiquitous character of the latter. As the aromatic fraction of these hydrocarbons, MOAH, is associated with carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and detrimental effects on foetal development, finding strategies to limit or reduce their contamination is highly relevant. Deodorisation (i.e. a refining step) has shown the ability to remove MOAH < C25 in vegetable fats and oils, but there is little information about the structures removed. Therefore, the present study investigated the impact of deodorisation conditions on the removal of different structures of MOAH in spiked coconut oil. An inscribed central composite design was built with time and temperature as variables (0.5-4h, 150-240 °C), while pressure (3 mbar) and steam flow (1 g water/g oil per hour) were kept constant. The analysis of MOAH in the oil was performed using a fully automated liquid chromatography coupled with two parallel comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography systems with flame ionisation and time-of-flight mass spectrometric detection. Response surfaces plotting the MOAH loss according to time and temperature were built for different MOAH fractions. The latter were defined based on the number of aromatic rings (>3 or ≤3) and the number of carbon atoms present (C16-C20, C20-C24, C24-C35, C35-C40). It was found that at 200 °C, compounds < C24, including weakly alkylated triaromatics, could be reduced to below the limit of quantification, while at 230 °C, it was possible to remove >60% of the C24-C35 fraction, including pentaromatics of low alkylation. The female prostate, also known as Skene's gland, is present in both humans and rodents. Prenatal exposure to ethinylestradiol (EE2), a synthetic estrogen found in oral contraceptives, induces pormotes neoplasic prostate lesions in gerbils (Meriones unguiculatus). Conversely, pequi oil (Pe), extracted from the Brazilian Cerrado fruit, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer properties, mitigates risks associated with chronic diseases related to lifestyle and aging. This study evaluates the impact of prenatal exposure to Pe (300 mg/kg) on senile gerbil offspring's male and female prostates under normal conditions and EE2 exposure (15 μg/kg/day). Histological and morphometric analyses revealed that Pe reduced male body weight and prostate epithelial height, along with a thinner muscle layer. In females, EE2 exposure reduced prostatic weight, while Pe exposure lowered epithelial height and the relative stromal compartment volume, increasing the muscle layer. Environmental issues, including climate change and plastic pollution, have compelled scientists to look at alternatives to traditional polymers. Scientists are actively researching biobased hyperbranched polymers, an emerging group of highly branched polymers made from sustainable resources. They are seen as a promising alternative to petrochemical-based polymers. Hyperbranched polymers can be made using single- and double-monomer techniques. This review provides an extensive perspective of the synthesis and properties of biobased hyperbranched polymers made from a variety of renewable starting materials, including starch, lignin, vanillin, levulinic acid, furfurylamine, ferulic acid, citric acid, adipic acid, succinic acid, and tannic acid and various vegetable oils have been investigated till date. Most of these biobased hyperbranched polymers have been created using vegetable oil as their raw materials because numerous vegetable oil derivatives like monoglycerides, polyols, and fatty acids can be potentially used as monomers for the polymer. In the paper, specifics about modified biobased hyperbranched polymers, their composites, nanocomposites, and functionalized versions are highlighted. These materials belong to a class that combines the special characteristics of hyperbranched polymers with the reinforcing and functionalizing effects of fillers like silver, carbon, silicone, clay, etc. Lastly, the paper also discusses the various practical applications of biobased hyperbranched polymers in various industrial sectors and their prospects for the future. The burning and utilization of fossil fuels contribute to climate change and emit pollutants that raise the risk of asthma, heart diseases, respiratory diseases, and strokes in humans. There is an unprecedented rise in the use of petroleum fuel, consequently, increasing the concern over fossil fuel utilization. To overcome this burning problem, there is an urgent need to switch to biofuels, which are an attractive alternative to petroleum fuel. Biofuels are renewable, nontoxic, sulfur-free, cost-effective energy sources that can be derived from the fatty acids found in plant oils via transesterification, esterification, and catalytic cracking techniques. This review focuses on the feedstocks as well as their fatty acid composition used to produce the first two out of the four generations of biofuel and reports up-to-date information on the differing reaction conditions involved in these processes. Various types of feedstocks, reactors, catalysts, and production techniques are used to produce biofuels which are discussed in this article. An emphasis has been put on the fatty acids of edible and non-edible oils and their usage to produce biodiesel with a discussion of the in-depth knowledge of properties as well as the applications of biofuels in detail. BACKGROUND: Effective utilization of plant protection UAVs in peanut cultivation management necessitates a comprehensive grasp of how application volume rates and pesticides influence peanut leaf spot and rust control. This study aimed to compare the effects of application volume rates and pesticides on droplet deposition, disease, leaf retention rate and peanut yield. A T20 plant protection unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) sprayer was used to apply four various pesticide doses. In comparison, a knapsack sprayer was used to spray with an application volume rate of 450 L ha−1. RESULTS: The results showed a significant difference in droplet deposition between the plant protection UAVs and the electric knapsack sprayer. In the pesticide treatment with an application volume rate of 15.0 L ha−1, there was no significant difference in the deposition on the peanut canopy of each pesticide treatment, but there was a significant difference in the deposition on the ground in the treatment with adding vegetable oil adjuvant. The treatment with added vegetable oil additives showed the worst performance. The treatment with an application volume rate of 22.5 L ha−1 showed the best performance, with the leaf spot control effect being only 0.3% lower than that of the electric knapsack sprayer. CONCLUSION: Plant protection UAV spraying is feasible to control peanut diseases. Considering the operational effectiveness of the plant protection UAV and application volume rate, it is recommended to use an application volume rate of 22.5 L ha−1 without adding vegetable oil adjuvants for field operations. © 2024 Society of Chemical Industry. Vegetable oils show a strong potential as renewable resources for developing new monomers and polymers. Unsaturated fatty acids offer opportunities for chemical modifications such as epoxidation and acrylation. In parallel, the rise of additive manufacturing, particularly 3D printing by stereolithography process, provides a green approach for the fabrication of polymeric materials with diverse architectures and shapes for various fields, including biomedical, electronics, and aerospace. This work reports the synthesis and application of a novel 3D printable, renewable biomass-derived monomer obtained from passion fruit vegetable oil. We comprehensively assessed its conversion under different monomeric mixtures containing type 1 or type 2 photoinitiators under ultraviolet and blue irradiations. The mixture containing type 1 photoinitiator demonstrated superior performance under UV light and was further characterized for its suitability as a 3D printing resin. Subsequent investigations revealed that a photoinitiator concentration as low as 0.5 wt.% suffices for effective 3D printing. Our findings demonstrate the feasibility of utilizing this passion fruit vegetable oil-derived, renewable monomer for additive manufacturing of bio-based polymers while minimizing the dependence on photoinitiators. This work focused on the characterization of lignin residues from bioethanol production of olive stones (OS) and the use of these residues to chemically thicken epoxidized linseed oil (ELO). OS were processed by an acid/steam explosion pretreatment, followed by pre-saccharification, using different enzyme dosages, and simultaneous saccharification and fermentation. The chemical composition of the OS lignin residues was analysed, revealing a high lignin content (66.6–69.5%), and lower quantities of glucan (17.4–19.3%) and xylan (2.8–2.9%). Whereas, the structural properties of OS lignin residues were characterized by Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), thermogravimetric analysis and size exclusion chromatography (SEC). OS lignin residues displayed the main inter-unit linkages (β–β′ resinol (51.0–59.0%), followed by β-O-4′ alkyl aryl ethers (27.0–35.2%) and β-5′ phenylcoumaran (11.4–13.2%) substructures), high molecular weights (22,000–25900 Da), low S/G ratios (1.2–1.5) and phenolic groups content (48–55 mg GAE/g lignin). Moreover, OS lignin residues were dispersed in ELO to obtain thickened formulations, which were characterized by FTIR and NMR. Oil thickening was achieved by promoting the chemical crosslinking between lignocellulose hydroxyl groups and ELO epoxy groups, enabling the compatibilization of both components. Up to tenfold viscosity increment of the resulting thickened formulations in relation to ELO's viscosity was observed. Innovative and renewable polymers and additives are the focus of increased research due to public and environmental pressure. There has been a recent uptick in interest from scientists in biobased "green" plasticizers that can be covalently bonded to replace harmful and migratory phthalate‐based plasticizers. Vegetable oils (VOs) are one of the biosources, as they are both plentiful and sustainable. This review aims to highlight the synthesis methods for soy‐based polyesters. Therefore, the chemistry of soybean oil as a polymeric material and its role in the synthesis of polyesters derived from soybeans are the primary topics of this review. This review covers the many ways in which soybean oil and its derivatives can be used to synthesize polyester, either directly or indirectly. To tackle the challenges of environmentally friendly dielectric fluid, the current research focuses on the diverse biodegradable oils that are utilised as dielectric fluids in electro-discharge machining (EDM) processes. When it comes to machining extremely hard materials, EDM is a cutting-edge, non-traditional technology. As part of this research, Ti-6Al-4 V material has been machined in two phases: the first phase, using conventional EDM oil, and the second phase, utilising four distinct bio-dielectric fluids. Comparisons have been made between EDM oil and other bio-dielectric fluids in terms of machining performance measures such as material removal rates (MRR), tool wear rate (TWR), and surface roughness (SR). The primary goal of this research is to identify an appropriate bio-dielectric fluid that will be environmentally acceptable, cost-effective, and provide better machining performance when compared to other dielectric fluids on the market. When the MRR, TWR, and SR are taken into account, mixed vegetable oil is found to be the best bio-dielectric fluid, and in cases where only the MRR is considered, sunflower oil is the best dielectric. It was discovered that the surface obtained with sunflower oil is the best in terms of crack size and number of cracks when compared to other dielectric fluids. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The high demand for biofuels by surfacing economies with environmental issues has resulted in a more in‐depth search for new biofuel feedstocks. Non‐edible oils have become the centre of investigation as biofuel feedstocks since they do not compete with food sources. This review evaluates hydrocracking as a biofuel production method and further elucidates different feedstocks, the effects of hydrocracking catalysts, and operating parameters to obtain optimum yields and selectivity of desired products. The bifunctional catalyst mechanism is also explained. The hydrocracking technique is found to be more advantageous than other biofuel production techniques such as transesterification and pyrolysis due to its ability to produce valuable products of better quality and with higher yields. Summary Medium‐ and long‐chain triacylglycerols rich in α‐linolenic acid (ALA‐MLCT) are a kind of functional structural lipids that provide ω‐3 fatty acid and faster energy supply to human body. To improve the functional and nutritional properties of vegetable oils, we proposed an effective strategy for the synthesis of ALA‐MLCT by enzymatic interesterification of coconut oil and flaxseed oil. Lipase UM1 exhibited the highest interesterification activity compared with commercial Lipozyme RM IM, Lipozyme TL IM and Novozym 435. MLCT (76.59%) and ALA‐MLCT (45.03%) were obtained under the optimum reaction conditions: substrate molar ratio (coconut oil/flaxseed oil) 1:1, temperature 40 °C, Lipase UM1 loading 25 U g‑1. Furthermore, we identified 14 characteristic triacylglycerols molecules between enzymatic interesterification and physical blend by orthogonal partial least squares‐discrimination analysis (OPLS‐DA) model. The content of triunsaturated type triacylglycerols in enzymatic interesterification product (11.29%) was lower than that of physical blend (36.25%). Enzymatic interesterification product had lower solid fat content and 2.44 times oxidative stability than physical blend. These findings provide an effective strategy for the synthesis of functional ALA‐MLCT and advance the understanding of the relationship between triacylglycerols composition and physicochemical characteristics. Hybrid oils ensure multifaceted technological (self‐lubricating and favorable fatty acid properties), and sustainable (environmental, economic, and societal) benefits towards biodiesel conversions. The hybrid oils (Hydnocarpus wightiana oil and waste cooking oils [40:60 v/v]) were synthesized to methyl ester with alkaline catalyst sodium hydroxide through the base‐transesterification process. The resulting hybrid oil methyl ester (HOME) is 96.68%. The crude oil (CO) and its HOME underwent characterization using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and hydrogen‐1 nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The physicochemical properties of crude oils and hybrid biodiesel were analyzed and compared to pure diesel. Different blends of biodiesel–diesel, including binary (20% HOME + 80% diesel [D]), ternary (60% D + 20% HOME + 20% heptanol [H]), and quaternary (20% HOME + 20% H + 10% CO + 50% D) blends, were tested in a single‐cylinder compression ignition (CI) engine under various load conditions to assess their performance, emissions, and combustion properties. Experimental findings indicate that the addition of heptanol to diesel or hybrid biodiesel (ternary blend) enhances brake thermal efficiency, reduces brake‐specific fuel consumption, and leads to longer ignition delays, resulting in higher internal combustion pressure and thermal energy release rates compared to the quaternary blend. Additionally, compared to pure diesel, the ternary blend exhibits decreased emissions of carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrocarbon (HC), with a slight increase in nitrous oxide (NOx) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Seed triacylglycerol (TAG), a major component of vegetable oil, consists of a glycerol esterified with three fatty acids. Vegetable oil has industrial applications and is widely used as edible oil. The increasing demand for plant oils, owing to population growth, it is crucial to enhance the oil content in seeds. We found castor WRINKLED1A (RcWRI1A) and R2R3-type MYB domain protein 306 (RcMYB306) which have homology with Arabidopsis WRI1 (AtWRI1) and AtMYB96 which regulate genes involved in fatty acid and TAG synthesis, respectively. These castor genes were separately and jointly overexpressed using seed-specific promoters in an oil crop, camelina (Camelina sativa). Overexpression of RcWRI1A, RcMYB306, or RcWRI1A + RcMYB306 increased the total seed oil content in camelina. However, this increase was not significantly different from that observed during the overexpression of RcWRI1A or/and RcMYB306. RcWRI1A overexpression increased the fatty acid content, including 16:0, 18:2, 18:3. Contrastingly, RcMYB306 overexpression increased the 18:1, 18:2, 18:3, 20:0 and 20:1 fatty acid. In the RcWRI1A + RcMYB306 lines, changes in fatty acid composition demonstrated the combined effects of these transcription factors. The transformer mineral oil is generally hydrocarbon-based and is not environmentally friendly, so it holds a significant share in environmental pollution. As an alternative to conventional transformer oil, plant-based insulation oil has been investigated globally in the past few decades. Even though vegetable oils are considered an environmentally viable alternative to mineral oil, the extensive utilization of vegetable oils could create a threat to Indian food security. The present work focuses on using Pongamia Pinnata oil (PPO) as a significant alternative to conventional transformer oil (CTO) in distribution transformers. The effectiveness of the proposed PPO is experimentally verified using thermal studies and electrical studies through a low-level distribution transformer of 1 kVA. A comparative analysis was carried out between the proposed and conventional oil regarding physical, chemical, and thermal properties. Also, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis have been carried out for fibreglass cloth insulation material with PPO and CTO to ensure the intrinsic structural strength of the insulation material. The structural strength ensures the bonding and life span of the insulation in the transformer. The present study examines the use of waste cooking oil (WCO) as a substrate for medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoates (mcl-PHA) production by Pseudomonas rhizophila S211. The genome analysis revealed that the S211 strain has a mcl-PHA cluster (phaC1ZC2DFI) encoding two class II PHA synthases (PhaC1 and PhaC2) separated by a PHA depolymerase (PhaZ), a transcriptional activator (PhaD) and two phasin-like proteins (PhaFI). Genomic annotation also identified a gene encoding family I.3 lipase that was able to hydrolyze plant oils and generate fatty acids as favorable carbon sources for cell growth and PHA synthesis via β-oxidation pathway. Using a three-variable Doehlert experimental design, the optimum conditions for mcl-PHA accumulation were achieved in 10% of WCO-based medium with an inoculum size of 10% and an incubation period of 48 h at 30 °C. The experimental yield of PHA from WCO was 1.8 g/L close to the predicted yield of 1.68 ± 0.14 g/L. Moreover, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy analysis confirmed the extracted mcl-PHA. Overall, this study describes P. rhizophila as a cell factory for biosynthesis of biodegradable plastics and proposes green and efficient approach to cooking oil waste management by decreasing the cost of mcl-PHA production, which can help reduce the dependence on petroleum-based plastics. This study investigates the use of a non-destructive ultrasonic pulse-echo method to characterize argan oil and other vegetable oils with similar fatty acid profiles. Ultrasonic parameters such as velocity, acoustic attenuation and reflection coefficient were measured across different temperatures. These parameters were used to create predictive models of ultrasonic velocity using partial least squares regression. Results demonstrated significant correlations between ultrasonic properties, oil temperature and fatty acid content. Specifically, ultrasonic velocity was found to be directly proportional to the content of saturated fatty acids and inversely proportional to the content of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids. The reflection coefficient was also found to correlate with the fatty acid composition and temperature of the oils. Additionally, both ultrasonic velocity and acoustic attenuation decreased as the temperature increased from 25 °C to 50 °C. At 25 °C, the acoustic attenuation for argan oil was 22.37 Np/m, decreasing to 11.37 Np/m at 50 °C. These correlations allowed for the differentiation between food-grade argan oil, argan oil from seeds regurgitated by goats, sesame oil and peanut oil. The developed predictive models exhibited high coefficients of determination, with a value of 97.03 for argan oil, indicating strong agreement between measured and predicted ultrasonic velocities. HVO has been noted as a more sustainable fuel, not only leading to lower total CO2 emissions, but also resulting in lower emissions of toxic substances upon fuel burning. The environmental impact of HVO and HVO diesel blends when accidentally spilled into the soil and ground water has, however, received little attention. While HVO and diesel exhibit nearly identical viscosity and density, their behavior in soils differs due to varying water solubility and fuel additives. In laboratory- and pilot-scale soil columns and lysimeters, we compared the migration and biostimulation-enhanced degradation of HVO, HVO-diesel blend (HVO15), and fossil diesel over 120 days. Additionally, we investigated the impact of fuel additives on migration by comparing HVO without additives to HVO15 and diesel in wet and dry soil columns over 21 days. Notably, HVO migrated through soil more rapidly and in greater quantities than diesel. In wet soil, 69% of added HVO, 8.4% of HVO15, and 21% of diesel leached through as light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL). Dry soil showed smaller differences in fuel migration, but HVO did not mobilize when water was added, unlike HVO15 and diesel. Biostimulation reduced HVO leaching by 15% more than HVO15 and 48% more than diesel. Overall, HVO's behavior in soil differs significantly from fossil diesel, with factors like lower water solubility, reduced mobilization from dry soil, and higher in situ degradability contributing to its reduced environmental risk compared to fossil fuel alternatives in accident scenarios. The Green Deal targets, along with tightening emissions legislation, foster research on alternative propulsion systems. In non-road mobile machinery (NRMM), these efforts largely rally around sustainable fuels while keeping the benefits of energy security (multi-fueling) high. In this context, the blends of Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and Methanol (MEOH) are amongst the most promising yet under-researched alternatives and, as such, need dedicated methods for determining their suitability in engine applications. In this paper, we evaluate the feasibility of Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) analytics for determining the stability of MEOH-HVO mixtures. The research considers temperature effects during storage by conditioning the test samples at −20 °C and +20 °C. The stability of the blends and different co-solvents is analysed after six weeks, and FTIR spectra are used to identify the chemical bonds. From FTIR analysis, blending MEOH20 with 1-dodecanol results in stable homogenous alkyl-ether fuels, while the MEOH20 blend with methyl-butyrate results in ester fuels. There are observable differences in the blend samples according to their storage temperatures. In conclusion, both fuel blend samples formed different fuel types, which are stable and homogenous at room temperature, posing great potential for their applicability in different NRMM types. A method for obtaining non-isocyanate polyurethane (NIPU) foams from cyclic carbonate (CC) based on soybean oil was developed. For this purpose, cyclic carbonate was synthesized from epoxidized soybean oil and CO2 using various ionic liquids (ILs) as catalysts. Among the tested ILs, the highest selectivity (100%) and CC yield (98%) were achieved for 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium ([emim]Br). Without any purification, the resulting cyclic carbonate was reacted directly with diethylenetriamine as a model crosslinking agent to produce NIPU foams. It was found that the soybean oil-based CC synthesized with bromide imidazolium ionic liquids exhibited significantly shorter gelling times (8 min 50 s for [emim]Br and 9 min 35 s for [bmim]Br) compared to those obtained with the conventional TBAB catalyst (26 min 15 s). The olive oil from the Royal cultivar has not been studied in depth, especially its relationship between analytical and sensory parameters. Currently, it is a minority cultivar, but due to its excellent organoleptic properties, it is constantly growing. The research objective is to obtain excellent-quality olive oil from the Royal cultivar at an industrial extraction plant and characterize the oil sensory and analytically. For this purpose, three important factors were set: very early olives; very low-time olive paste malaxation; and environmental temperature. The analytical parameters studied were volatile and phenolic compounds, fatty acids, photosynthetic pigments, and other quality parameters. Fourteen phenolic compounds were identified and found in significantly higher concentrations in Royal olive oil, including the oleacein compound. Moreover, volatile compounds from the LOX pathway, such as hexenal, (E)-2-hexenal, and (Z)-3-hexen-1-ol, had significantly higher concentrations, which were related to organoleptic characteristics: very fruity, not very spicy, and very low bitterness. The highest values obtained were 74.98% extraction efficiency at 30 min; 71.31 mg/kg chlorophyll content at 30 min; 156.38 mg/kg phenolic compound at 30 min; 18.98 mg/kg volatile compounds at 15 min; and better organoleptic characteristics at 15 min. Berry fruit seeds which are considered as a fruit industry waste product can be a source of oil with unique chemical, physical, and nutritional properties. The blackberry, chokeberry, and raspberry seeds can be perceived as an alternative source of oil. However, conventional oil extraction is merged with financial and environmental expanses. Therefore, alternative extraction methods, ultrasound-assisted, for example, are being gradually introduced to the common practice. The aim of the following study was to determine the optimal conditions of ultrasound-assisted extraction of oil from blackberry, chokeberry, and raspberry seeds in order to obtain oil with high yield and improved oxidative stability. The variables of the experiment were extraction time and ultrasound amplitude. Based on the results, the mathematical models were fit, and optimum conditions of time and amplitude were calculated: 8.20 min and 72.98%, 10.11 min and 59.18%, 8.43 min and 95.57% for blackberry, chokeberry, and raspberry seed oils, respectively. Additionally, oils obtained in the optimized conditions were assessed in differential scanning calorimetry study to evaluate their melting and crystallization characteristics. The results showed that ultrasound application affected thermal properties of oils only slightly. The evaluation of oxidation kinetics led to the conclusion that ultrasound may cause an activation energy increase. Also, the profile of fatty acids and their distribution in triacylglycerol molecules were studied. The output values of experiments were comparable between oils obtained from the same berry seeds. All of the oils were characterized with a high share of polyunsaturated fatty acids (over 70%) with predominant content of linoleic acid. Summarized results show that the ultrasound technique can be successfully applied in the oil extraction procedure. Massive consumption of fossil fuels and alarming environmental degradation are motivating researchers to learn about alternative fuels. Straight vegetable oils are an alternative to fossil fuels to meet the standards. Microalgae is also a viable carbon–neutral alternative to depleting conventional fuel sources, a solution to the industrial requirement of organic consumables and an option for a green and sustainable economy for biofuels. In the present study, lipid was extracted from Karanja seeds and Dunaliella salina biomass. These were used to prepare different binary and ternary fuel blends with conventional reference diesel fuel with different proportions along with used cooking oil with their concentrations ranging from 10 to 20% (v/v). The influence of these blends on performance and emissions characteristics in CI engines has delved at varying engine loads from 0 to 100%. The binary blend with Dunaliella salina oil has increased the performance characteristics while decreasing all the major emission parameters compared to reference diesel fuel and shows a significant improvement among binary blends. Ternary blends with Dunaliella salina oil, on the other hand, have improved performance while lowering emission parameters when compared to reference diesel fuel and demonstrate a substantial improvement across ternary blends. For predicting the performance and emission characteristics of binary and ternary blends, an artificial neural network-based model was developed. The optimum blends, OB6 (90% RDF, 10% DO) and OB8 (80% RDF, 10% DO, 10% UCO), improved BSFC by 10.71%, BTE by 14.23%, and reduced BSEC by 12.45% at full load. Emissions were generally reduced, with CO2 decreasing by up to 39.39%. The simulation results demonstrated that the created 4–7-7 model was capable of accurately predicting the performance and emission characteristics of various alternative fuel blends and indicating a stronger correlation between the predicted and observed values, having a high correlation coefficient of 0.9974. Binary and ternary blends with straight vegetable oils improved CI engine performance and pollutants compared to reference diesel fuel, indicating they have the potential to replace conventional fuels for sustainable development. Bio‐based epoxy resins have emerged as a sustainable alternative to petroleum‐based epoxy resins. Commonly, furan derivatives, carbohydrates, cardanol, and lignin are commercially utilized with bio‐based curing agents to form crosslinked structures. In recent years, epoxidized vegetable oils have gathered significant attention as sustainable bio‐based materials for epoxy resin. The work is devoted to studying changes in the physicochemical and colloid–sorption properties of bleaching clay thermotreated after its use in the process of refining vegetable oil. Bleaching clay thermotreated at different temperatures has been used for comparison. The colloid–sorption properties have been studied by measuring adsorption of methylene blue dye from aqueous solutions. It has been shown that clay annealed at 350°C adsorbs methylene blue most efficiently. In the saturation region, the adsorption by clay thermotreated at 350°C has amounted to 0.28 mmol/g or 89.6 mg/g, while the adsorption by clay annealed at 250°C has appeared to be 0.24 mmol/g or 76.8 mg/g. When the annealing temperature is elevated above 500°C, the adsorption properties of the bleaching clay waste decrease, probably, due to the combustion of the carbon layer. Using bleaching clay waste from the Alekseevsky oil extraction plant as an example, it has been revealed that, during the thermal treatment of the material, various types of water (free, interpackage, and chemically bound one) are removed, thus leading to changes in the colloid–sorption properties, such as particle surface relief, specific surface area, sorption capacity, and ζ potential. Objective To analyze the correlation between the dietary structure of the elderly in China and their depressive symptoms, and to explore the differential impact of plant-based diet intake on depressive symptoms among elderly individuals with different obesity status. Methods Based on the data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey (CLHLS), the Plant-based Diet Index (PDI), Healthy Plant-based Diet Index (HPDI), and Unhealthy Plant-based Diet Index (UPDI) were used to describe the dietary patterns of the elderly, with participants categorized into Q1-Q5 based on quintiles. Binary logistic regression models and Sharpe ratio analysis were used to determine the influencing factors and differences in the impact of plant-based diet intake on depressive symptoms among elderly individuals with different obesity statuses. Results The PDI had a significant impact on the depressive symptoms of the elderly. The risk of depressive symptoms decreased by 85.9%, 72.8%, 77.5%, and 56.1% in Q2, Q3, Q4, and Q5, respectively, compared to QI. The UPDI also had a significant impact, with the risk of depressive symptoms increasing by 118.0% and 148.2% in Q4 and Q5, respectively, compared to Ql» Similarly, the HPDI had a significant impact, with the risk of depressive symptoms decreasing by 78.4%, 72.2%, and 61.4% in Q3, Q4, and Q5, respectively, compared to QI. Conclusion Increased intake of a healthy plant-based diet can prevent and improve depressive symptoms in the elderly. It is recommended that the elderly consume more fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, plant oils, and legumes in their daily diet, while also increasing the intake of egg-based foods to prevent the risk of depressive symptoms. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of different chromatographic column absorbents (activated clay, silica gel, and activated aluminum oxide) on the adsorption and removal of minor components (sterols, tocopherols, β‐carotene, free fatty acids (FFAs), secondary oxidation products, and peroxides) in vegetable oils. For single absorbents, activated aluminum oxide was the most effective material for removing tocopherols and FFAs from oil. All the adsorbents used have the capacity to remove β‐carotene from edible oils, and activated clay has the strongest ability, with removal rates reaching 99.8%. The brassicasterol, campesterol, β‐sitosterol, γ‐tocopherol, and δ‐tocopherol in vegetable oil can be completely removed by silica gel. Using a combination of these absorbents, a multistage optimized method was developed to maximize the removal of various minor components from vegetable oils. After multistage purification, free sterols, tocopherols, FFAs, β‐carotene, and secondary oxidation products were completely removed, whereas peroxides were also removed at concentrations less than 0.71 mmol/kg. The purified oils could be used as standard samples for in‐depth study of the effects of minor components on formation of association colloids and their influence on oil oxidation, as well as for evaluating the antioxidant potential of novel antioxidants or extracts. Background: Fluoroscopic hysterosalpingography (HSG) with Lipiodol® is safe and has a therapeutic effect on fertility: transient in endometriosis‐related infertility and sustained in unexplained infertility. Ultrasound is replacing fluoroscopy as the preferred imaging modality for HSG due to comfort and radiation safety (no ionising radiation). The safety of ultrasound‐guided Lipiodol® HSG is uncertain. Aims: Prospectively observe pregnancy and complication rates after ultrasound‐guided Lipiodol® HSG. Materials and Methods: A single‐centre prospective study of women with unexplained infertility undergoing ultrasound‐guided Lipiodol® uterine bathing and tubal flushing after tubal patency confirmed with ExEm® Foam HyFoSy (hysterosalpingo‐foam‐sonography). Pregnancy outcomes at six months and serum and urinary thyroid function at one, three and eight weeks were recorded. Pain scores were recorded during and immediately after HSG. Descriptive statistics are reported. Results: Fifty‐two participants were enrolled between July 2019 and April 2021, median age 33 years (range 21–45). Only 45 (87%, 45/52) completed the Lipiodol® HSG; 5/7 experienced intravasation during initial HyFoSy. Of 30 women at follow‐up, 57% had biochemical (17/30, 95% CI 37%–75%), 53% clinical (16/30 95% CI 34%–72%) and 35% ongoing pregnancies (11/30, 95% CI 20%–56%). The rate of subclinical hypothyroidism (SCH) at two months was 41% (7/17). One intravasation event occurred during Lipiodol® HSG (2%, 1/45). Median pain score was 5/10 (range 0–9, interquartile range 2.5–7). No anaphylaxis, infection or oil embolism was observed. Conclusion: Outpatient ultrasound‐guided Lipiodol® HSG was safe, with pregnancy rates comparable to previous studies of fluoroscopic guidance. Skin-friendly textile materials were obtained by applying oil-in-water emulsions based on palmarosa essential oil, chamomile, and calendula tinctures onto cotton fabrics. Different formulations based on these bioactive principles incorporated in collagen as polymeric matrices were prepared and immobilized on a plain weave textile structure from 100% cotton. The functionalized textile materials were characterized in terms of physicochemical, mechanical, antibacterial, and biocompatibility points of view. The pH values of the prepared emulsions were in the range of 4.81–5.23 and showed no significant differences after 4 h of storage. Moreover, the addition of a higher quantity of active principles (palmarosa essential oil and plant tinctures) caused slightly lower values of acidic pH. The electrical conductivity of the obtained emulsions increased with the decrease in the oil phases in the system. The highest values were obtained for the emulsion developed with the smallest volume fraction of active principle—palmarosa essential oil and plant tinctures. The emulsion that contained the least amount of collagen and the highest number of active principles exhibited the lowest stability. The textile materials treated with synthesized emulsions exerted antibacterial effects against S. aureus and E. coli strains and did not affect keratinocyte growth, spreading, and organization, highlighting the biocompatibility of these developed skin-friendly textiles. Most of the Escherichia coli turned into serious pathogens or developed antibiotic resistance, mainly due to their ability to show different phenotypic traits. In order to overcome the resistance to these antibiotics, the use of essential oils (EOs) is of great significance against highly pathogenic microorganisms. This study has been made to compare the in vitro antibacterial activity and further validated the same through the molecular docking study of 13 antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, chloramphenicol, erythromycin, ampicillin, cefotaxime, rifampicin, kanamycin, vancomycin, streptomycin, penicillin, nalidixic acid, trimethoprim, and polymyxin, and 10 EOs such as garlic, tulsi, neem, clove, thyme, peppermint, coriander, tea, lavender, and eucalyptus against the target protein (DNA gyrase) of E. coli MTCC443. E. coli Microbial Type Culture Collection 443 was found to be highly sensitive to ciprofloxacin (zone of inhibition [ZOI], 2.5 cm ±0.1) and chloramphenicol (ZOI, 1.8 cm ±0.1), whereas garlic oil (ZOI, 5.5 cm ±0.1) and coriander oil (ZOI, 4.4 cm ±0.1) were found comparatively most effective. Further, the in silico investigation observed the same; ciprofloxacin (binding affinity: −7.2 kcal/mol) and chloramphenicol (binding affinity: −6.6 kcal/mol). Waste vegetable oil cold mix recycling technology can massively improve the resource utilization rate of solid waste in the road construction industry. This process can also reduce energy consumption and environmental pollutant emissions during road construction, making it an effective approach to achieve the carbon peak and carbon neutral strategy in this industry. This study employs a combination of macroexperiment and microscopic molecular simulation to analyze the component changes and mechanisms in the process of cold regeneration of aged asphalt with waste vegetable oil. The findings provide a scientific basis for the popularization and application of this technology. This study conducted a basic performance test, four-component test, atomic force microscope (AFM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and molecular simulation on waste vegetable oil cold regeneration asphalt (WVOCRA) with varying waste vegetable oil (WVO) content, which aims to determine the optimal amount of WVO for cold regeneration of asphalt and to understand the mechanism behind the change in components and properties of aged asphalt during the process. The study found that the addition of WVO improved the colloidal stability of cold regenerated asphalt. The asphaltene index in the four-component test and the ratio of honeycomb structure in the AFM test indicates that the optimal ratio of light and heavy components in WVOCRA was achieved with a 10% dosage of WVO. Furthermore, the macroscopic properties of WVOCRA were restored to the same level as that of the 70# asphalt. The rejuvenation of aged asphalt through WVO is primarily achieved through physical conditioning, without the generation of new chemical functional groups. WVO can be used to separate asphaltene dimers in aged asphalt, reducing the probability of asphaltene and resin aggregation, and degrading heavy component clusters in aged asphalt. The index of mutual diffusion rate Vv indicates that increasing the temperature of simulated diffusion and the proportion of WVO can enhance the mutual diffusion rate and integration depth of WVO and aged asphalt. However, the increase of WVO will reduce the thermal stability of WVOCRA. Therefore, future research could explore process optimization for the cold regeneration of aged asphalt using WVO or investigate the combined use of WVO cold regeneration asphalt technology and composite modified asphalt technology. Polyurethanes are renowned for their incredible versatility. They are available in various forms, such as foams, thermoplastics, elastomers, and paints. These polymers are synthesized from two chemical substances: isocyanates and polyols. The increasing interest in the utilization of materials from renewable sources has spurred significant research in search of replacements for these two substances. For instance, castor oil can be used as a substitute for polyol, in addition to being an abundant renewable source. In this context, the objective of this study is to investigate how the variables temperature (2 °C, 24 °C, and 70 °C) and mass ratio (2:1, 1:1, and 1:2) influence the final properties of polyurethane foams. The foams were prepared using the one-shot method under controlled agitation. The results indicated that replacing polyol with vegetable oil was successful, as evidenced by the appearance of reference bands in the FTIR spectra. XRD and DSC analyses confirmed the amorphous nature of the polyurethanes, and TG tests demonstrated that a temperature of 70 °C significantly reduced the thermal stability of the foams, especially those based on vegetable sources. However, synthesis temperatures of 2 °C and 24 °C did not show considerable alteration in thermal stability. We aimed to evaluate the effect of transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE) with iodized oil (Lipiodol) on temperature change during cryoablation (CA) for renal cell carcinoma (RCC). We retrospectively reviewed patients receiving CA for RCC from February 2020 to July 2021, including those who received Lipiodol TAE prior to CA (TAE group) and those who underwent only CA with comparable clinical and tumor characteristics (non-TAE group). Clinical data and tumor characteristics of both groups were recorded. The temperature readings of each cryoprobe at every 15 s and 'time to −100 °C' were compared between the groups. A total of 17 patients with 18 RCCs were recruited (seven in the TAE group and 11 in the non-TAE group). The 'time to −100 °C' was significantly longer in the TAE group than in the non-TAE group (64.5 ± 24.3 s vs. 48.8 ± 9.7 s, p = 0.018). Positive correlation between 'time to −100 °C' and tumor maximal diameter, RENAL nephrometry and PADUA score were observed in the non-TAE group, while no corresponding correlation was found in the TAE group. Pre-embolization with iodized oil influences the temporal temperature changes during cryoablation by disrupting the positive correlation between the time to reach the target temperature and tumor characteristics. Idesia polycarpa is a woody oil plant with great development and application prospects. However, stem canker disease of I. polycarpa was frequently observed in Henan and Hubei provinces of China in 2020–2022. The seriousness of the disease caused a large number of trees deaths, which affected seedling production and fruit yield, restricting the development of the I. polycarpa industry. We performed isolation, purification and pathogenicity analysis of canker samples. Pathogenicity tests reproduced typical canker disease symptoms on detached branches of I. polycarpa. Based on morphological observations, conidial morphology and phylogenetic analysis of isolates with high similarity to the rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS), EF‐1α and TUB2 sequences screened in GenBank by BLAST, the pathogen of canker disease on I. polycarpa was identified as Botryosphaeria dothidea. A relationship between EPR and spectrophotometric parameters related to beer staling and antioxidant activity, was identified. AUC (area under the curve), intensity at 150 min (T150), radical scavenging activity (RSA), total phenolic compounds (TPC), hydroxyl radical scavenging capacity (HRSC) and one parameter linked to staling degree of beers (thiobarbituric index, TBI) were related. Temperature was modified to find the proper working conditions for EPR spin-trapping experiments and it was found that it affected the kinetic of PBN adduct evolution. For the samples reaching a maximum intensity signal, the higher the heating temperature, the shorter the time interval needed to reach it. No linear relationship was detected among parameters obtained with EPR spin trapping experiments and RSA, TPC, TPI, and HRSC when correlating one parameter with another. On the contrary, a good linear relationship was found among AUC or T150 and a combination of RSA, TPC, TPI, and HRSC (R2 = 0.9562 and 0.9694, respectively). Carvone belongs to the chemical family of terpenoids and is the main component of various plant oils. Carvone and its hydrogenated products are used in the flavouring and food industries. A quantitative thermodynamic analysis of the general network of carvone hydrogenation reactions was performed based on the thermochemical properties of the starting carvone and all possible intermediates and end products. The enthalpies of vaporisation, enthalpies of formation, entropies and heat capacities of the reactants were determined by complementary measurements and a combination of empirical, theoretical and quantum chemical methods. The energetics and entropy change in the hydrogenation and isomerisation reactions that take place during the conversion of carvone were derived, and the Gibbs energies of the reactions were estimated. It was shown that negative Gibbs energies are recorded for all reactions that may occur during the hydrogenation of carvone, although these differ significantly in magnitude. This means that all these reactions are thermodynamically feasible in a wide range from ambient temperature to elevated temperatures. Therefore, all these reactions definitely take place under kinetic and not thermodynamic control. Nevertheless, the numerical Gibbs energy values can help to establish the chemoselectivity of catalysts used to convert carvone to either carvacarol or to dihydro- and terahydrocarvone, either in carvotanacetone or carveol. Only a few reports available about the assimilation of hydrophobic or oil-based feedstock as carbon sources by Lipomyces starkeyi. In this study, the ability of L. starkeyi to efficiently utilize free fatty acids (FFAs) and real biomass like palm acid oil (PAO) as well as crude palm kernel oil (CPKO) for growth and lipid production was investigated. PAO, CPKO, and FFAs were evaluated as sole carbon sources or in the mixed medium containing glucose. L. starkeyi was able to grow on the medium supplemented with PAO and FFAs, which contained long-chain length FAs and accumulated lipids up to 35% (w/w) of its dry cell weight. The highest lipid content and lipid concentration were achieved at 50% (w/w) and 10.1 g/L, respectively, when L. starkeyi was cultured in nitrogen-limited mineral medium (-NMM) supplemented with PAO emulsion. Hydrophobic substrate like PAO could be served as promising carbon source for L. starkeyi. • Lipomyces starkeyi could grow on specific types of hydrocarbon or plant-oil-based feedstocks and accumulate lipid. • Palm acid oil (PAO) and long-chain length fatty acids such as C16:0 and C18:1 could be efficiently utilized by L. starkeyi. • L. starkeyi was not able to use carbon sources consisting of C12:0 such as CPKO and sodium laurate. • Addition of Tween 20 as a surfactant to emulsify PAO increases the availability of PAO in the culture medium. Objectives: This study aimed to assess the contribution of edible/cooking oils and mayonnaise sauce in the severity, motor and non-motor symptoms, and risk of Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods: In this study, 120 patients with PD and 50 healthy individuals participated. The frequency and quantity of edible/cooking oils including animal and plant source oils (hydrogenated and nonhydrogenated) and mayonnaise sauce used by participants were determined using a food frequency questionnaire. The severity of PD was determined by the Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (UPDRS). Results: Patients with PD had lower use of hydrogenated plant-based oil (HPO) (p < 0.001) and animal oils (p < 0.001) but had higher use of non-hydrogenated plant-based oil (NHPO) (p < 0.001), olive oil (p = 0.02), and mayonnaise sauce (p < 0.001) compared with the healthy subjects. Use of each unit HPO reduced 4% the odds of PD (p = 0.01). The odds of PD increased 20% by each unit increase in NHPO usage (p = 0.001), 49% by olive oil (p = 0.02), and 127% by mayonnaise sauce (p = 0.004) intake. According to receiver operator characteristics curve analysis, mayonnaise sauce and NHPO had the largest area under the curve in predicting PD. Intake of animal oil was positively correlated with total score of UPDRS (p = 0.05) and motor symptoms (p = 0.04). Intake of butter was positively correlated with total score of UPDRS (p = 0.047), nonmotor aspects of experiences of daily living (p = 0.02), and motor examination (p = 0.02). Liamocins, a group of high-density glycolipids, are only produced by certain strains of the yeast-like fungi in the genus Aureobasidium. Until now, few studies have focused on the surfactant properties of liamocins produced from the highly diverse tropical strains of Aureobasidium. Therefore, the aims of this research were to screen the liamocin production from tropical strains of Aureobasidium spp. and to characterize their surfactant properties. A total of 41 strains of Thai Aureobasidium spp. were screened for their ability to produce liamocins, and the products were detected using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry and thin-layer chromatography. Of those strains, 30 strains of Aureobasidium spp. tested were found to produce liamocins with yields ranging from 0.53 to 10.60 g/l. The nature of all crude liamocins was heterogeneous, with different compositions and ratios depending on the yeast strain. These liamocins exhibited relatively high emulsifying activity against vegetable oils tested, with an emulsification index of around 40–50%; the emulsion stability of some liamocins was up to 30 days. The obtained critical micelle concentration values were varied, with those ​​of liamocins produced from A. pullulans, A. melanogenum and A. thailandense falling in ranges from 7.70 to 119.78, 10.73 to > 1,000, and 68.56 to > 1,000 mg/l, respectively. The emulsification activity of liamocins was higher than that of the analytical grade rhamnolipids. These compounds showed strong surface tension reduction in a sodium chloride concentration range of 2–12% (w/v), pH values between 3 and 7, and temperatures between 4 and 121 °C.
