A combination of germanium detectors has been installed at the PF1B neutron guide of the ILL to perform the prompt spectroscopy of neutron-rich nuclei produced in the neutron-capture induced-fission of 235U and 241Pu. In addition LaBr3 detectors from the FATIMA collaboration have been installed in complement with the EXOGAM clovers to measure lifetimes of low-lying excited states. The measured characteristics and online spectra indicate very good performances of the overall setup.

Fluid Mechanics And Thermodynamics - Abstract
The present paper deals with an experimental study of the stagnation-point heat transfer to a cooled copper surface with gas injection under subsonic conditions. Test were made with a probe that combined a steady-state water-cooled calorimeter that allows the capability to study convective blockage and to perform heat transfer measurements in presence of gas injection in the stagnation region. The copper probe was pierced by 52 holes, representing 2.4% of the total probe surface. The 1.2 MW high enthalpy plasma wind tunnel was operated at anode powers between 130 and 230 kW and a static pressures from 35 hPa up to 200 hPa. Air, carbon dioxide and argon were injected in the mass flow range 0-0.4 g/s in the boundary layer developed around the 50 mm diameter probe. The measured stagnation-point heat transfer rates are reported and discussed.

Introduction In asymptomatic patients with severe aortic regurgitation (AR), the degree of left ventricular (LV) remodelling is a determinant of the postoperative function and survival. The development of LV fibrosis may be assessed by extracellular volume (ECV) determined by cMR-T1 mapping. Objective The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of the LV fibrosis on the postoperative LV function. Methods Between January 2012 and May 2017, 42 patients (age = 47 ± 13 years, 95% men) with severe AR underwent evaluation of fibrosis by ECV preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. LV biopsies were performed at the time of surgery and stained with Sirius red. Results The amount of fibrosis quantified by biopsy was 4.95 ± 1.85% [0.97; 8.50], while ECV was 27.46 ± 4.29% [20.67; 37.13] (values are presented as mean ± SD [min; max]). Postoperative ejection fraction was 57% ± 7%. Multivariate regression analysis showed that preoperative EF and histological fibrosis are predictor factors of postoperative EF. Conclusion LV fibrosis is a major predictor of postoperative LV EF. It may be assessed by ECV and help to determine the right time for surgery in asymptomatic patients with severe AR.

Aims The aim of this article is to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of two-dimesional speckle tracking echocardiography (2D-STE) for the estimation of left ventricular (LV) twist, using tagged cardiac magnetic resonance (cMR) as the reference standard, and to assess how much 2D-STE rotational parameters are affected by the level at which measurements are made within the LV. Methods and results Forty-three patients with various heart diseases and 10 healthy volunteers underwent cMR and 2D-STE on the same day. With both methods, basal and apical time-rotation curves were generated at endocardial, midwall, and epicardial levels. By using the most apical cMR short-axis cross-section as a comparator, apical rotation was significantly underestimated by 2D-STE. When 2D-STE and cMR short-axis cross-sections were matched for their internal dimensions, measurements of endocardial, midwall, and epicardial twists no longer differ between cMR and 2D-STE (12.6 +/- 5.9 vs. 12.5 +/- 5.7 degrees , 10.5 +/- 4.6 vs. 9.7 +/- 4.1 degrees , and 8.9 +/- 4.0 vs. 8.4 +/- 3.7 degrees , respectively, all P = ns). Conclusion Compared with tagged cMR, 2D-STE underestimates apical rotation and LV twist. This is related to the inability of 2D-STE to image the real LV apex in most of the patients. However, when 2D-STE and cMR data are compared at similar acquisition levels, both techniques provide similar values.

Advances over the past 10 years have enabled the widespread use of myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) to assess myocardial perfusion. This assessment is critical in evaluating the severity of coronary artery disease and the efficacy of pharmacologic, mechanical, or surgical interventions. MCE measures myocardial blood flow (MBF) by investigating flow velocity and myocardial blood volume. Although there are potential limitations to the use of MCE for determining MBF, its use is feasible in the experimental laboratory and in the clinical environment.

MOTS CLES Echocardiographie transœsophagienne ; A 75-year-old man underwent transoesophageal echocardiography after having several transient ischaemic attacks. Cardiac examination was unremarkable. The transverse view of the descending thoracic aorta by conventional two-dimensional transoesophageal echocardiography (Fig. 1, left panel) exhibited extensive atherosclerosis. Atherosclerotic plaques and debris are common findings in elderly patients. The aorta was analysed using live three-dimensional transoesophageal echocardiography (Fig. 1, right panel). This view demonstrates the extent and irregular shape of the atheromatous plaque. The presence of aortic debris may explain spontaneous embolization or embolization through diagnostic procedures, such as coronary angiography.

- Abstract
Compared to non-ablative materials, the stagnation point heat transfer process for ablators is extremely challenging to model, owing to the simultaneous presence of multiple material phases, and to strong diffusion and convection processes that occur from the material to the boundary layer. The objective of this work package is to develop the tools needed to perform careful, quantitative investigations of the interaction of pyrolysis gases with high temperature free stream gases representative of post-shock flow during atmospheric entry. The first part is on the development of quasi-steady state pyrolysis/ablation devices that provide steady pyrolysis or ablation conditions during which accurate species concentration measurements can be obtained using spectroscopic methods. The second part involves developing the spectroscopic measurement capability using a non-pyrolyzing ablative material, such as graphite. The third part is on application of spectroscopic analysis.
