Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9% at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4%.

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we have measured the values of Ruds and R at seven points of the center-of-mass energy between 3.12 and 3.72 GeV. The total achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.3% at most of energy points with a systematic uncertainty of about 2.1%. At the moment it is the most accurate measurement of R(s) in this energy range.

Abstract

We present the analysis of all KEDR data on the determination of J/ψ and ψ(2S) masses. The data comprise six scans of J/ψ and seven scans of ψ(2S) which were performed at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider in 2002–2008. The beam energy was determined using the resonance depolarization method. The detector and accelerator conditions during scans were very different that increases the reliability of the averaged results. The analysis accounts for partial correlations of systematic uncertainties on the masses. The following mass values were obtained:MJ/ψ=3096.900±0.002±0.006 MeV,Mψ(2S)=3686.099±0.004±0.009 MeV. These results supersede our previous measurements published in 2003 and 2012.

Abstract

Using the inclusive photon spectrum based on a data sample collected at the J/ψ peak with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e− collider, we measured the rate of the radiative decay J/ψ→γηc as well as ηc mass and width. Taking into account an asymmetric photon lineshape we obtained Γγηc0=2.98±0.18−0.33+0.15keV, Mηc=2983.5±1.4−3.6+1.6MeV/c2, Γηc=27.2±3.1−2.6+5.4MeV. Keywords: Charmonium, Radiative decays

Abstract

The product of the electronic width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fractions of its decay to hadrons and electrons has been measured using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The obtained values are $$ \begin{array}{c}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=5.550\pm 0.056\pm 0.089\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{\mathrm{hadrons}}\left(J/\psi \right)=4.884\pm 0.048\pm 0.078\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV},\hfill \\ {}\hfill {\Gamma}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)\cdotp {\mathrm{\mathcal{B}}}_{ee}\left(J/\psi \right)=0.3331\pm 0.0066\pm 0.0040\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}.\hfill \end{array} $$ Γ e e J / ψ = 5.550 ± 0.056 ± 0.089 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ hadrons J / ψ = 4.884 ± 0.048 ± 0.078 keV , Γ e e J / ψ · ℬ e e J / ψ = 0.3331 ± 0.0066 ± 0.0040 keV . The uncertainties shown are statistical and systematic, respectively. Using the result presented and the world-average value of the electronic branching fraction, one obtains the total width of the J/ψ meson: $$ \Gamma =92.94\pm 1.83\kern0.5em \mathrm{keV}. $$ Γ = 92.94 ± 1.83 keV . These results are consistent with the previous experiments.

Abstract

The ratio of the electron and muon widths of the J / ψ meson has been measured using direct J / ψ decays in the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The result Γ e + e − ( J / ψ ) / Γ μ + μ − ( J / ψ ) = 1.0022 ± 0.0044 ± 0.0048 ( 0.65 % ) is in good agreement with the lepton universality. The experience collected during this analysis will be used for J / ψ lepton width determination with up to 1% accuracy.

Abstract

Using the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider, we have determined the values of R at thirteen points of the center-of-mass energy between 1.84 and 3.05 GeV. The achieved accuracy is about or better than 3.9 % at most of the energy points with a systematic uncertainty less than 2.4 % .

Abstract

A high-precision determination of the main parameters of the ψ ( 2 S ) resonance has been performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider in three scans of the ψ ( 2 S ) – ψ ( 3770 ) energy range. Fitting the energy dependence of the multihadron cross section in the vicinity of the ψ ( 2 S ) we obtained the mass value M = 3686.114 ± 0.007 ± 0.011 − 0.012 + 0.002 MeV and the product of the electron partial width by the branching fraction into hadrons Γ e e × B h = 2.233 ± 0.015 ± 0.037 ± 0.020 keV . The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. The third uncertainty quoted is an estimate of the model dependence of the result due to assumptions on the interference effects in the cross section of the single-photon e + e − annihilation to hadrons explicitly considered in this work. Implicitly, the same assumptions were employed to obtain the charmonium leptonic width and the absolute branching fractions in many experiments. Using the result presented and the world average values of the electron and hadron branching fractions, one obtains the electron partial width and the total width of the ψ ( 2 S ) : Γ e e = 2.282 ± 0.015 ± 0.038 ± 0.021 keV , Γ = 296 ± 2 ± 8 ± 3 keV . These results are consistent with and more than two times more precise than any of the previous experiments.

Abstract

We report on the status of the Novosibirsk experiment on a precision measurement of the ratio $R$ of the elastic $e^+ p$ and $e^- p$ scattering cross sections. Such measurements determine the two-photon exchange effect in elastic electron-proton scattering. The experiment is conducted at the VEPP-3 storage ring using a hydrogen internal gas target. The ratio $R$ is measured with a beam energy of 1.6 GeV (electron/positron scattering angles are $\theta = 55 \div 75^{\circ}$ and $\theta = 15 \div 25^{\circ}$) and 1 GeV ($\theta = 65 \div 105^{\circ}$). We briefly describe the experimental method, paying special attention to the radiative corrections. Abstract

We report results of a search for narrow resonances in e + e − annihilation at center-of-mass energies between 1.85 and 3.1 GeV performed with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e + e − collider. The upper limit on the leptonic width of a narrow resonance Γ e e R ⋅ Br ( R → h a d r ) 120 eV has been obtained (at 90% C.L.).

Abstract

We present a study of the inclusive photon spectrum from 6.3 million J/ψ decays collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M e+e- collider. We measure the branching fraction of the radiative decay J/ψ → ηcγ, ηc width and mass. Taking into account an asymmetric photon line shape we obtain: Mηc = (2978.1 ± 1.4 ± 2.0) MeV/c2, Γηc = (43.5 ± 5.4 ± 15.8) MeV, [Formula: see text].

Abstract

The products of the electron width of the J/ψ meson and the branching fraction of its decays to the lepton pairs were measured using data from the KEDR experiment at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The results are Γee×Γee/Γ=0.3323±0.0064(stat.)±0.0048(syst.) keV, Γee×Γμμ/Γ=0.3318±0.0052(stat.)±0.0063(syst.) keV. Their combinations Γee×(Γee+Γμμ)/Γ=0.6641±0.0082(stat.)±0.0100(syst.) keV, Γee/Γμμ=1.002±0.021(stat.)±0.013(syst.) can be used to improve the accuracy of the leptonic and full widths and test leptonic universality.

Abstract

The status of the experiment on the precise $\tau$ lepton mass measurement running at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the $\tau^+\tau^-$ cross section behaviour around the production threshold. The preliminary result based on 6.7 pb$^{-1}$ of data is $m_{\tau}=1776.80^{+0.25}_{-0.23} \pm 0.15$ MeV. Using 0.8 pb$^{-1}$ of data collected at the $\psi'$ peak the preliminary result is also obtained: $\Gamma_{ee}B_{\tau\tau}(\psi') = 7.2 \pm 2.1$ eV., Comment: 6 pages, 8 figures; The 9th International Workshop on Tau-Lepton Physics, Tau06

Abstract

A precise τ lepton mass measurement performed at the VEPP-4M collider with the KEDR detector is reported. The mass value is evaluated from the τ+τ− cross section behavior around the production threshold. The result based on 6.7 pb−1 of data is m τ = 1776.81 −0.23 +0.25 ± 0.15 MeV. Using 0.8 pb−1 of data collected at the ψ′ peak, we have also determined that Γ ee B ττ(ψ′) = 9.0 ± 2.6 eV.

Abstract

The ratio of the elastic ${e}^{+}p$ to ${e}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$ scattering cross sections has been measured precisely, allowing the determination of the two-photon exchange contribution to these processes. This neglected contribution is believed to be the cause of the discrepancy between the Rosenbluth and polarization transfer methods of measuring the proton electromagnetic form factors. The experiment was performed at the VEPP-3 storage ring at beam energies of 1.6 and 1.0 GeV and at lepton scattering angles between 15\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{} and 105\ifmmode^\circ\else\textdegree\fi{}. The data obtained show evidence of a significant two-photon exchange effect. The results are compared with several theoretical predictions.

Abstract

We describe a precise measurement of the ratio of the ( e + p ) to ( e − p ) elastic scattering cross sections. This comparison is sensitive to the effect of two-photon exchange contributions which may be the cause for inconsistent extractions of the proton form factors obtained using different methods. The experiment was performed at storage ring VEPP–3, Novosibirsk at energies of positron/electron beams of 1.0 and 1.6 GeV with electron/positron scattering angles θ = 65÷105° for the first case and 15÷25° and 55÷75° for the second case. Details of the experiment and the preliminary results are presented.

Abstract

A striking discrepancy between the results for the ratio of electric and magnetic form factors of the proton obtained by two approaches: the Rosenbluth extraction from the unpolarized cross section and the double-polarization measurements has led to a serious re-examination of the role played by two-photon exchange diagrams. The evaluation of such diagrams could not be done in model-independent way, which means an experimental verification is required. One of the direct ways to do this is to measure the ratio of positron–proton and electron–proton elastic scattering cross-sections for identical kinematics. Such a measurement has been performed at the VEPP-3 storage ring at Novosibirsk. There were two runs at beam energies of 1.6 and 1.0 GeV at several ranges of scattering angle. The measurements covered the transferred momentum Q2 up to 1.5 GeV2 and the virtual photon polarization parameter down to 0.2 . The VEPP-3 experimental approach is described and the results of the measurements are presented.

Abstract

Since 2004 the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M collider has taken several data sets in the ψ(2S) region, acquiring total luminosity of about 7 pb-1, which corresponds to more than 3.5 × 106ψ(2S). We report the preliminary value of Γee × Γμμ/Γ = 19.4 ± 0.4 ± 1.1 eV for ψ(2S).

Abstract

We report the final results of a study of the ψ ( 3770 ) meson using a data sample collected with the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4M electron–positron collider. The data analysis takes into account interference between the resonant and nonresonant D D ¯ production, where the latter is related to the nonresonant part of the energy-dependent form factor F D . The vector dominance approach and several empirical parameterizations have been tried for the nonresonant F D N R ( s ) . Our results for the mass and total width of ψ ( 3770 ) are M = 3779.2 − 1.7 + 1.8 − 0.7 + 0.5 − 0.3 + 0.3 MeV , Γ = 24.9 − 4.0 + 4.6 − 0.6 + 0.5 − 0.9 + 0.2 MeV , where the first, second and third uncertainties are statistical, systematic and model, respectively. For the electron partial width two possible solutions have been found: ( 1 ) Γ e e = 154 − 58 + 79 − 9 + 17 − 25 + 13 eV , ( 2 ) Γ e e = 414 − 80 + 72 − 26 + 24 − 10 + 90 eV . Our statistics are insufficient to prefer one solution to another. The Solution (2) mitigates the problem of non- D D ¯ decays but is disfavored by potential models. It is shown that taking into account the resonance–continuum interference in the near-threshold region affects resonance parameters, thus the results presented cannot be directly compared with the corresponding PDG values obtained ignoring this effect.

Abstract

We describe recent results from the KEDR detector at the VEPP-4Mcollider. They include: a search for narrow resonances between 1.85 and 3.1 GeV, a test of leptonic universality by comparing partial widths of the J/ψ resonance into electron and muon pairs, a determination of the main parameters of the ψ(2S) and a measurement of ψ(3770) parameters.
