The article attempts to consider the nature of the formation of priority areas of scientific activity and spiritual formation in the «Odesa» period of the life of the religious thinker, theologian, philosopher, historian, Orthodox priest, activist of the ecumenical movement and one of the founders of the World Council of Churches. His name is H. V. Florovsky. On the basis of previously not introduced into scientific circulation historical sources located in the State Archive of the Odesa Region, Princeton University Library and a layer of published sources and scientific literature, many new facts of the biography were discovered and inaccuracies and incorrect data regarding the main events of the scientist’s life were eliminated. Both general scientific (analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction) and special historical methods became the main methods of researching the life and intellectual work of H. V. Florovsky. The historical-genetic method made it possible to recreate the creative portrait of the scientist within the chronological framework of the period under study. The historical-comparative method was used to highlight what was new, which the scientist brought to the study of humanitarian fields of knowledge. Chronological, historical-biographical methods, techniques of historiographical and source analysis were also used. The essence and role of the main components of the scientist’s personality, which later determined the success of his professional activity, were revealed. It has been proven that the family played a significant role in the formation of H. V. Florovsky’s personality. The main milestones of life and spiritual formation are presented through the prism of his studies, work and scientific activity at the Imperial Novorossiysk University. The importance of the obtained results lies in the fact that, on the basis of archival material and scientific literature, the formation of scientific priorities and scientific and pedagogical experience of a scientist, a component of ensuring the relationship of traditions and innovations in the development of humanitarian knowledge, are analyzed. It has been established that the defining topic in the comprehensive study of the «Odesa» period of H. V. Florovsky should be the further research of the scientist’s creativity against the background of the specific circumstances of his biography.

The published and unpublished scientific and journalistic works on the history of the World War II by the Odessa historian S. I.-Ya. Borovoy are considered in the article. An attempt was made to objectively analyze the data of scientific works, their significance for studying the history of the World War II, to identify positive and negative sides in them in the context of the development of Soviet historical science, to understand their historiographic and methodological value, influence on modern historical science and the current perception of the events of the World War II. The result of the active participation of S. I.-Ya. Borovoy in the scientific and organizational work on the study of the history of the World War II was the publication of his works, which were defined as a task of national importance, as evidenced by the fact that the work of the scientist was carried out on the basis of a special government decision to create Commissions on the history of the Great Patriotic War at the union, republican, regional and district levels with the support of the relevant levels of the Communist Party, which determined their activities political and ideological orientation. His first articles were written on the basis of collected materials, documents, testimonies of eyewitnesses and participants in the events. The content of these articles was aimed at raising the mass consciousness of society, which contributed to the manifestation of the patriotic spirit in the course of a fierce confrontation, the willingness to endure everyday hardships in order to protect the country, to sacrifice personal interests in the name of preserving and strengthening statehood. Particular attention was paid to the heroic struggle of the Soviet people at the front, in the ranks of the partisan movement, and selfless labor in the rear. The decisive importance of the activities of the Communist Party as a leading, inspiring force was constantly emphasized, which led to the formation of the fundamental ideological orientation of the Soviet era. The vices of ideological content in the works of S. I.-Ya. Borovoy were caused by the political situation that took place in the life of Soviet society, in particular in the studies of historians.

The article is devoted to the representation of letters of well-known Kyiv historians I. O. Gurzhii and I. D. Boyko to the Odessa colleague S. I.-Ya. Borovоy. These letters for the period of the first half of the 1960’s are stored in the State Archives of Odessa region, in the fund of personal origin of Professor S. I.-Ya. Borovоy. The letters are a valuable source for studying the scientific biography and communication network of historians of the 1960s. Little-known archival documents were first published – correspondence with the Odessa historian of Kyiv colleagues who worked in various structures of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the 1940s and 1960s. These sources reflect their activities and connections with a colleague from Odesa. The purpose of this archeographic exploration is to update little-known archival sources, which significantly supplement the information about cooperation and personal contacts between Odessa and Kyiv historians, whose biographies and certain aspects of their scientific activity are revealed in the comments. The letters shed light on their scientific plans and creative laboratory of correspondents, views on social and cultural issues. The article examines the informative possibilities of letters from leading Kyiv historians of this period on the situation in historical science and the socio-cultural situation in the country as a whole. The epistles of these historians are of undeniable interest in the history of Soviet historiography, in particular, and the history of historical science. The provided materials reflect separate fragments of professional activity of two scientists and their personal and scientific communicative communications with some representatives of the Soviet scientific community. Epistles allow to reproduce some details of the history of Soviet historical science, certain episodes of the biography of a number of Soviet scientists of those years against the background of the events of the socio-cultural environment. The letters of scientists, despite the presence of powerful personal qualities, are characterized by high organization of the text, the ability to see the main things in events, extreme clarity in assessing the situation and expressing their opinions. The publication of the letters is accompanied by fairly complete comments on their content and introduces into scientific circulation a valuable historical source.

The article presents the part of the epistolary heritage of the outstanding Russian and Soviet bibliographer, ideologist of the introduction of the universal decimal classification in the USSR – B. S. Bodnarsky. The article presents for the first time his little-known historical sources. There are twenty epistles to the Soviet historian S. I.-Ya. Borovoy. Generally, the correspondence of these bibliographers is of undeniable interest in the history of Soviet bibliography in particular, and in the history of historical science. The represented epistles are stored in the State Archives of Odessa region, in the fund of personal origin of professor S. I.-Ya. Borovoy. The published ego-documents cover the period from 1952 to 1968 and are a valuable source on the history of socio-cultural life of the early second half of the twentieth century. The provided materials reflect separate fragments of professional activity of two scientists and their personal and scientific communicative communications with some representatives of the Soviet scientific community. The epistles allow us to reproduce some details of the history of Soviet historical science, certain episodes of the biographies of a number of Soviet scholars of those years against the background of socio-cultural events. The particular interest is the epistles of B. S. Bodnarsky in the context of the study of his interpersonal relationships with colleagues and contain facts for a detailed description of the academic community of the time. The epistles also contain a description of human relations, emotional feelings about certain moments that took place in the scientific environment, a description of the atmosphere of everyday life. The special value of the presented primary sources is that their content demonstrates the presence of attentive and friendly attitude between scientists. To a large extent, the personal connections of S. I.-Ya. Borovoy and an influential scholar in academic circles helped his younger colleague to overcome some difficulties and gain recognition as a scholar in the field of bibliography at the All-Union level. The publication of the letters is accompanied by quite complete comments on their content and introduces a valuable historical source into scientific circulation.

Teaching English for Academic Purposes (EAP) in Russian universities is becoming important nowadays because of the increasing attention to globalization. In education globalization is occurred through internationalization of education where EAP plays a crucial role. The authors of the article argue that, on the one hand, teaching English in non-linguistic Russian universities is often reduced to mastering the so-called general course of the language, which does not provide students with a tool for international communication in professional spheres. On the other hand, the English language, becoming the language of international academic communication, is transformed into a special academic discipline, becoming both a means and a content of learning English. Thus, new tasks are set for teachers of English, one of the most important is the search for effective technologies for teaching EAP. This article describes implementation of information communication technologies (ICT) in EAP course at Russian nonlinguistic universities. The aim is to carry out the theoretical analysis of the integration scheme of blended learning into the curriculum of Russian universities includes the research on the efficiency of wiki based EAP teaching experience and examines the pros and cons of various forms of blended learning opposed to the traditional classroom education and puts forward the issues of blended learning. The article reflects the stages of the project based on technology enhanced teaching EAP to undergraduate students by means of Web 2.0 tools. The article contains a detailed description of the project, its mission and respondents feedback gained via quantitative and qualitative research methods. Based on the professors and students interviews, questionnaires and observation, it has been found out to be in demand among the students who are digital natives and long for ICT assisted language learning and is subject to some criticism along with numerous benefits, which are also reflected in the results and findings of the study.

The article analyses and systematizes the results of numerous empirical studies in foreign social psychology, dedicated to the comparison of various forms of rivalry (competition, cooperation) in interpersonal and intergroup interaction. It emphasizes the significant specification, made by J.M. Rabbie, concerning the interdependence of interpersonal and intergroup rivalry interrelations, that “the discontinuity hypothesis” of J. Schopler & C. Insko can be seen as a special case of a more general reciprocal interdependence hypothesis.

The article proposed a model for the study of regularities of formation, development of scientific knowledge and paradigm shifts among historians of Odessa through the prism of the identity of their generations. Presents the meaning of the term generation and proposed a chronological periodization of generations of Odessa historians. On the background of socio-political changes of the first half of the ХХ century are identified and represented by a person of the Odessa historian N. Sokolov as a representative of "pozdneuniversitetskoy" generation of Imperial times

Selection of the electric circuit and parameters for the biasing unit in a controllable shunting reactor is considered. Structural features of the controllable shunting reactor associated with constraints in existing substations that operate in challenging climatic conditions are noted. The automatic control system of the biasing unit is analyzed. The biasing unit is tested at the input of the UShR-18000/500 controllable shunting reactor at the Nelym substation in the Tyumen region.

The differentiative effect of every type and subtype of rivalry on the group’s effective activity, its social-psychological state, an individual’s well-being and adaptation in the changing conditions of the modern Russia has been specified.

A method of deriving the dispersion equations for magnetoelectroelastic shear waves in periodically layered media is proposed. The media are formed by uniting identical metalized laminates, each consisting of two dissimilar piezoelectric layers separated by a layer with the properties of ferrite. A numerical analysis is carried out and the propagation of body waves in different structures consisting of ZnO and GaYtC layers is described within wide ranges of frequencies and wave numbers. The influence of the physical, mechanical, and geometrical parameters of the layers on the structure of the transmission and suppression zones and the effect of the piezoelectric effect of the position of transmission edges are examined

The paper is concerned with magnetoelastic shear waves propagating in regularly layered magnetostrictive media at a right angle to the layer interfaces

We theoretically study the existence conditions for Love waves in a layer with arbitrary thickness and arbitrary physical and mechanical properties on a regularly laminated half-space. Also we analyze the behavior of the dispersion curves depending on the physical and geometrical properties of the layer and the mechanical properties of the upper layer of the half-space. It is demonstrated that the behavior of the spectrum and the ranges of surface waves can efficiently be controlled by varying the thickness of the layer.

An exact solution is found for magnetoelastic shear waves in an infinite structure consisting of three metallized layers. The core layer is ferrite and the face layers are nonmagnetic dielectrics. The wave process in the layers is described by a linearized system of magnetoelastic equations. The problem posed is reduced to a system of linear algebraic equations. The existence conditions for an undamped solution to this system yield the existence conditions for magnetoelastic bulk waves. The dispersion relations derived are analyzed in detail

An approach is developed for studying the propagation of magnetoelasic waves in layered structures. The structures have the properties of ferrite with interfaces differently covered with a metal coating. The problem is reduced to an infinite equation system within the framework of the linearized theory of magnetoelasticity. Conditions of volume-wave propagation are derived from the condition of existence of a nontrivial solution to this system. Some results are presented in the form of plots

This paper is devoted to the study of magnetoelastic volume wave in a periodic layered medium of the ferrite-metal-dielectric type, which is characterized by the fact that the electromagnetic field of the layers is shielded by the metallization of each of the ferrite layers. This work is timely because of the development in recent years of high-precision technology for creating layered superlattices with complicated properties for the layers [1] and the broad interest in problems of propagation of waves of different physical types in magnetically ordered layered media [2,3]. We also must not that in media having ferrite properties, two classes of waves can propagate: magnetostatic, and they interact with each other. A result of wave interaction is the fact that the character of the transmission zone in the magnetoelastic case should be qualitatively different from the character of the transmission zones in the elastic or electroelastic case in media of the metal-piezoelectric type [4].

An analytical method for calculating rod-shaped piezoelectric transducers, consisting of N components, is proposed. Each component is polarized in the axial direction, and neighboring components are oppositely polarized. Electrodes are deposited on the interface of the components and at the ends, and a fixed electric potential is applied to them. The approach is based on reducing the starting boundary-value problem with the help of transfer matrices to a system of algebraic equations. The solution of the system in the case of identical components is found with the help of Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. The characteristic distributions of the displacements and potential along transducers consisting of five and ten components at their first resonance frequencies are presented.
