Abstract: We report on the experimental search for the bound state of an η meson and He3 nucleus performed using the WASA-at-COSY detector setup. In order to search for the η-mesic nucleus decay, the pd→3He2γ and pd→3He6γ channels have been analysed. These reactions manifest the direct decay of the η meson bound in a He3 nucleus. This non-mesonic decay channel has been considered for the first time. When taking into account only statistical errors, the obtained excitation functions reveal a slight indication for a possible bound state signal corresponding to a 3He-η nucleus width Γ above 20 MeV and binding energy Bs between 0 and 15 MeV. However, the determined cross sections are consistent with zero in the range of the systematic uncertainty. Therefore, as final result we estimate only the upper limit for the cross section of the η-mesic He3 nucleus formation followed by the η meson decay which varies between 2 nb and 15 nb depending on possible bound state parameters. Abstract: We report on the search for the rare decay η→π0e+e− which is of interest to study C violation in the electromagnetic interaction which would indicate contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model, since the allowed decay via a two-photon intermediate state is strongly suppressed. The experiment has been performed using the WASA-at-COSY installation, located at the COSY accelerator of the Forschungszentrum Jülich, Germany. In total 3×107 events of the reaction pd→3Heη have been recorded at an excess energy of Q=59.8MeV. Based on this data set the C parity violating decay η→π0γ⁎→π0e+e− via a single-photon intermediate state has been searched for, resulting in new upper limits of Γ(η→π0e+e−)/Γ(η→π+π−π0)

Abstract: New data on both total and differential cross sections of the production of η mesons in proton–deuteron fusion to He3η in the excess energy region 13.6MeV≤Qη≤80.9MeV are presented. These data have been obtained with the WASA-at-COSY detector setup located at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, using a proton beam at 15 different beam momenta between pp=1.60GeV/c and pp=1.74GeV/c. While significant structure of the total cross section is observed in the energy region 20MeV≲Qη≲60MeV, a previously reported sharp variation around Qη≈50MeV cannot be confirmed. Angular distributions show the typical forward-peaking that was noted earlier. For the first time, it is possible to study the development of these angular distributions with rising excess energy over a wide interval. Abstract: This letter reports a first quantitative analysis of the contribution of higher partial waves in the charge symmetry breaking reaction dd→4Heπ0 using the WASA-at-COSY detector setup at an excess energy of Q=60MeV. The determined differential cross section can be parametrized as dσ/dΩ=a+bcos2⁡θ⁎, where θ⁎ is the production angle of the pion in the center-of-mass coordinate system, and the results for the parameters are a=(1.55±0.46(stat)+0.32−0.8(syst))pb/sr and b=(13.1±2.1(stat)−2.7+1.0(syst))pb/sr. The data are compatible with vanishing p-waves and a sizable d-wave contribution. This finding should strongly constrain the contribution of the Δ isobar to the dd→4Heπ0 reaction and is, therefore, crucial for a quantitative understanding of quark mass effects in nuclear production reactions. Abstract: Exclusive measurements of the quasi-free pn→ppπ− and pp→ppπ0 reactions have been performed by means of pd collisions at Tp=1.2 GeV using the WASA detector setup at COSY. Total and differential cross sections have been obtained covering the energy region Tp=0.95–1.3 GeV (s=2.3–2.46 GeV), which includes the regions of Δ(1232), N⁎(1440) and d⁎(2380) resonance excitations. From these measurements the isoscalar single-pion production has been extracted, for which data existed so far only below Tp=1 GeV. We observe a substantial increase of this cross section around 1 GeV, which can be related to the Roper resonance N⁎(1440), the strength of which shows up isolated from the Δ resonance in the isoscalar (Nπ)I=0 invariant-mass spectrum. No evidence for a decay of the dibaryon resonance d⁎(2380) into the isoscalar (NNπ)I=0 channel is found. An upper limit of 180 μb (90% C.L.) corresponding to a branching ratio of 9% has been deduced.

Abstract: Using the production reactions pd→He3ω and pp→ppω, the Dalitz plot distribution for the ω→π+π−π0 decay is studied with the WASA detector at COSY, based on a combined data sample of (4.408±0.042)×104 events. The Dalitz plot density is parametrised by a product of the P-wave phase space and a polynomial expansion in the normalised polar Dalitz plot variables Z and ϕ. For the first time, a deviation from pure P-wave phase space is observed with a significance of 4.1σ. The deviation is parametrised by a linear term 1+2αZ, with α determined to be +0.147±0.036, consistent with the expectations of ρ-meson-type final-state interactions of the P-wave pion pairs.

Abstract: Progress in the treatment of arrhythmias is associated with the development and implementation in clinical medicine of a number of electrophysiological methods that make it possible to determine and localize the formation and conduction of electrical excitation with a high degree of reliability. At the same time, an increase in the number of invasive procedures can lead to an increase in complications associated with the interventions, which in turn requires radiology specialists to understand the main stages of the intervention technique, and, accordingly, the mechanisms of development of possible complications and their localization. The purpose of the article is to present modern research data on the use of computed and magnetic resonance imaging in determining complications during interventional and surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

Abstract: Various theoretical calculations based on QCD or hadronic interactions predict that in addition to the recently observed dibaryon resonance d⁎(2380) with I(JP)=0(3+) there should also exist a dibaryon resonance with mirrored quantum numbers I(JP)=3(0+). We report here on a search for such a NN-decoupled state in data on the pp→ppπ+π+π−π− reaction. Since no clear-cut evidence has been found, we give upper limits for the production cross section of such a resonance in the mass range 2280–2500 MeV. Keywords: Dibaryons, Four-pion production

Total and differential cross sections have been obtained covering the energy region s=(2.35–2.46) GeV, which includes the region of the ABC effect and its associated d⁎(2380) resonance. Adding the d⁎ resonance amplitude to that for the conventional processes leads to a reasonable description of the data. The observed resonance effect in the total cross section is in agreement with the predictions of Fäldt and Wilkin as well with those of Albadajedo and Oset. The ABC effect, i.e. the low-mass enhancement in the π0π0-invariant mass spectrum, is found to be very modest – if present at all, which might pose a problem to some of its interpretations. Abstract: Charge symmetry breaking (CSB) observables are a suitable experimental tool to examine effects induced by quark masses on the nuclear level. Previous high precision data from TRIUMF and IUCF are currently used to develop a consistent description of CSB within the framework of chiral perturbation theory. In this work the experimental studies on the reaction dd→He4π0 have been extended towards higher excess energies in order to provide information on the contribution of p-waves in the final state. For this, an exclusive measurement has been carried out at a beam momentum of pd=1.2 GeV/c using the WASA-at-COSY facility. The total cross section amounts to σtot=(118±18stat±13sys±8ext) pb and first data on the differential cross section are consistent with s-wave pion production. Abstract: The reaction of [Mo3S4(Tu)8(H2O)]Cl4·4H2O (Tu is thiourea) with (PhCH2CH2)2-PCH2CH2SeC5H11) (PSe) followed by purification on a chromatographic column packed with silica gel using a saturated solution of KPF6 in acetone as an eluent results in the formation of [Mo3S4Cl3(PSe)3]PF6 (I) in a yield of 44%. Compound I is characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, 1H, 31P{1H}, and 77Se NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. Several species differed in the coordination mode of three PSe ligands, which can bind to molybdenum via one (phosphorus) or two (phosphorus and selenium) donor atoms, are formed in a solution of compound I at room temperature. This behavior is not observed for the compounds similar in structure with PS ligands of an analogous type. Complex I demonstrates a higher catalytic activity than its analogue with the PS ligand in the reduction of nitrobenzene to aniline under the action of diphenylsilane.

Abstract: The excitation function for the $pd\rightarrow$ $d p \pi^{0}$ reaction has been measured by WASA-at-COSY experiment with the aim of searching for $^{3}\hspace{-0.03cm}\mbox{He}$-$\eta$ mesic nuclei. The measurement in the vicinity of $\eta$ meson production was performed using a ramped proton beam. The data analysis and interpretation was carried out with the assumption that the $\eta$-mesic Helium decays via the formation of an intermediate N$^{*}$(1535) resonance. No direct signal of the $\eta$-mesic nucleus is observed in the excitation function. We determine a new improved upper limit for the total cross section for the bound state production and decay in the $pd\rightarrow$ $(^{3}\hspace{-0.03cm}\mbox{He}$-$\eta)_{bound} \rightarrow$ $d p \pi^{0}$ process. It varies between 13 nb to 24 nb for the bound state with width in the range $\Gamma \in (5,50)$ MeV.

Abstract: Differential cross sections have been extracted from exclusive and kinematically complete high-statistics measurements of quasifree polarized np scattering performed in the energy region of the d*(2380) dibaryon resonance covering the range of beam energies Tn=0.98−1.29 GeV (s=2.32−2.44 GeV). The experiment was carried out with the WASA-at-COSY setup having a polarized deuteron beam impinged on the hydrogen pellet target and utilizing the quasifree process dp→np+pspectator. In this way the np differential cross section σ(Θ) was measured over a large angular range. The obtained angular distributions complement the corresponding analyzing power Ay(Θ) measurements published previously. A SAID partial-wave analysis incorporating the new data strengthens the finding of a resonance pole in the coupled D33-G33 waves.

Abstract: The differential cross section for the 1H(d,pp)n breakup reaction at deuteron beam energy of 340 MeV has been measured with the use of the WASA detector at COSY-Jülich. The set of proton-proton coincidences registered at the Forward Detector has been analyzed on a dense grid of kinematic variables, giving in total around 5600 data points. The cross-section data are compared to theoretical predictions based on the state-of-the-art nucleon-nucleon potentials, combined with a three-nucleon force or the Coulomb interaction or carried out in a relativistic regime.

Abstract: We report on the search for the rare decay η → π 0 e + e − which is of interest to study C violation in the electromagnetic interaction which would indicate contributions from physics beyond the Standard Model, since the allowed decay via a two-photon intermediate state is strongly suppressed. The experiment has been performed using the WASA-at-COSY installation, located at the COSY accelerator of the Forschungszentrum Julich, Germany. In total 3 × 10 7 events of the reaction p d → 3 He η have been recorded at an excess energy of Q = 59.8 MeV . Based on this data set the C parity violating decay η → π 0 γ ⁎ → π 0 e + e − via a single-photon intermediate state has been searched for, resulting in new upper limits of Γ ( η → π 0 e + e − ) / Γ ( η → π + π − π 0 ) 3.28 × 10 − 5 and Γ ( η → π 0 e + e − ) / Γ ( η → all ) 7.5 × 10 − 6 ( CL = 90 % ), respectively.

Abstract: The search for He 4 - η bound states was performed with the WASA-at-COSY facility via the measurement of the excitation function for the d d → He 3 n π 0 and d d → He 3 p π − processes. The deuteron beam momentum was varied continuously between 2.127 GeV/c and 2.422 GeV/c, corresponding to the excess energy for the d d → He 4 η reaction ranging from Q = − 70 MeV to Q = 30 MeV . The luminosity was determined based on the d d → He 3 n reaction and the quasi-free proton–proton scattering via d d → p p n s p e c t a t o r n s p e c t a t o r reactions. The excitation functions, determined independently for the measured reactions, do not reveal a structure which could be interpreted as a narrow mesic nucleus. Therefore, the upper limits of the total cross sections for the bound state production and decay in d d → ( He 4 - η ) b o u n d → He 3 n π 0 and d d → ( He 4 - η ) b o u n d → He 3 p π − processes were determined taking into account the isospin relation between the both of the considered channels. The results of the analysis depend on the assumptions of the N ⁎ (1535) momentum distribution in the anticipated mesic- He 4 . Assuming, as in the previous works, that this is identical with the distribution of nucleons bound with 20 MeV in He 4 , we determined that (for the mesic bound state width in the range from 5 MeV to 50 MeV) the upper limits at 90% confidence level are about 3 nb and about 6 nb for n π 0 and p π − channels, respectively. However, based on the recent theoretical findings of the N ⁎ (1535) momentum distribution in the N ⁎ - He 3 nucleus bound by 3.6 MeV, we find that the WASA-at-COSY detector acceptance decreases and hence the corresponding upper limits are 5 nb and 10 nb for n π 0 and p π − channels respectively.

Abstract: The quasifree pp → ppπ+π− reaction has been measured by means of pd collisions at Tp = 1.2 GeV using the WASA detector setup at COSY enabling exclusive and kinematically complete measurements. Total and differential cross sections have been extracted for the energy region Tp = 1.08–1.36 GeV (√s = 2.35–2.46 GeV) covering thus the regions of N∗(1440) and (1232)(1232) resonance excitations. Calculations describing these excitations by t-channel meson exchange as well as isospin relations based on the pp → ppπ0π0 data underpredict substantially the measured total cross section. The calculations are also at variance with specific experimental differential cross sections. An isotensor N dibaryon resonance with I (J P ) = 2(1+) produced associatedly with a pion is able to overcome these deficiencies. Such a dibaryon was predicted by Dyson and Xuong [Phys. Rev. Lett. 13, 815 (1964)] and more recently calculated by A. Gal and H. Garcilazo [Nucl. Phys. A 928, 73 (2014)].

Abstract: Various theoretical calculations based on QCD or hadronic interactions predict that in addition to the recently observed dibaryon resonance d⁎(2380) with I(JP)=0(3+) there should also exist a dibaryon resonance with mirrored quantum numbers I(JP)=3(0+). We report here on a search for such a NN-decoupled state in data on the pp→ppπ+π+π−π− reaction. Since no clear-cut evidence has been found, we give upper limits for the production cross section of such a resonance in the mass range 2280–2500 MeV., This work has been supported by DFG (CL 214/3-1), STFC (ST/L00478X/1) and by the Polish National Science Center through grants Nos. Abstract: New data on the production of single neutral pions in the $ pd\rightarrow {}^{3}\mathrm{He} \pi^{0}$ reaction are presented. For fifteen proton beam momenta between $ p_{p}=1.60$ GeV/c and $ p_{p}=1.74$ GeV/c, differential cross sections are determined over a large fraction of the backward hemisphere. Since the only previous systematic measurements of single-pion production at these energies were made in collinear kinematics, the present work constitutes a significant extension of the current knowledge on this reaction. Even this far above the production threshold, significant changes are found in the behaviour of the angular distributions over small intervals in beam momentum.

Abstract: This letter reports a first quantitative analysis of the contribution of higher partial waves in the charge symmetry breaking reaction dd→4Heπ0 using the WASA-at-COSY detector setup at an excess energy of Q=60MeV. The determined differential cross section can be parametrized as dσ/dΩ=a+bcos2⁡θ⁎, where θ⁎ is the production angle of the pion in the center-of-mass coordinate system, and the results for the parameters are a=(1.55±0.46(stat)+0.32−0.8(syst))pb/sr and b=(13.1±2.1(stat)−2.7+1.0(syst))pb/sr. The data are compatible with vanishing p-waves and a sizable d-wave contribution. This finding should strongly constrain the contribution of the Δ isobar to the dd→4Heπ0 reaction and is, therefore, crucial for a quantitative understanding of quark mass effects in nuclear production reactions.

Abstract: New data on both total and differential cross sections of the production of η mesons in proton–deuteron fusion to He3η in the excess energy region 13.6MeV≤Qη≤80.9MeV are presented. These data have been obtained with the WASA-at-COSY detector setup located at the Forschungszentrum Jülich, using a proton beam at 15 different beam momenta between pp=1.60GeV/c and pp=1.74GeV/c. While significant structure of the total cross section is observed in the energy region 20MeV≲Qη≲60MeV, a previously reported sharp variation around Qη≈50MeV cannot be confirmed. Angular distributions show the typical forward-peaking that was noted earlier. For the first time, it is possible to study the development of these angular distributions with rising excess energy over a wide interval.

Abstract: Taking advantage of the high acceptance and axial symmetry of the WASA-at-COSY detector, and the high degree of the polarized proton beam of COSY, the reaction pp{\to} pp{\eta} has been measured close to threshold to explore the analyzing power Ay. The angular distribution of Ay is determined with the precision improved by more than one order of magnitude with respect to previous results allowing a first accurate comparison with theoretical predictions. The determined analyzing power is consistent with zero for an excess energy of Q = 15 MeV signaling s wave production with no evidence for higher partial waves. At Q = 72 MeV the data reveals strong interference of P s and P p partial waves and cancellation of (P p) and Ss*Sd contributions. These results rule out the presently available theoretical predictions for the production mechanism of the {\eta} meson., Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev. Lett

Abstract: The WASA-at-COSY experiment has collected $3\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{7}$ events with $\ensuremath{\eta}$ mesons produced via the reaction $pd\ensuremath{\rightarrow}^{3}\mathrm{He}\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}\ensuremath{\eta}$ at $\mathrm{T}=1.0\phantom{\rule{4pt}{0ex}}\mathrm{GeV}$. Using this data set, we evaluate the branching ratios of the decays $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\gamma}$, $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}\ensuremath{\gamma}$, $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$. The branching ratios are normalized to the $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ decay. In addition an upper limit on a $CP$-violating asymmetry in $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{e}^{+}{e}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ is extracted.

Abstract: The presently world largest data sample for π 0 → γ e + e − decays studies containing nearly 5 × 10 5 events was collected using the WASA detector at COSY. A search for a dark photon U produced in the π 0 → γ U → γ e + e − decay from the p p → p p π 0 reaction was carried out. An upper limit on the square of the U − γ mixing strength parameter ϵ 2 of 5 × 10 − 6 at 90% CL was obtained for the mass range 20 MeV M U 100 MeV . This result together with other recent experimental limits significantly reduces the M U vs. ϵ 2 parameter space which could explain the presently seen deviation between the Standard Model prediction and the direct measurement of the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon.

Abstract: The cross sections of the pd -> 3He eta, pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 and pd -> 3He pi+ pi- pi0 reactions have been measured at beam kinetic energies T_p= 1360 MeV and T_p= 1450 MeV using the CELSIUS/WASA detector setup. At both energies, the differential cross section dsigma/dOmega of the eta meson in the pd -> 3He eta reaction shows a strong forward-backward asymmetry in the CMS. The ratio between the pd -> 3He pi+ pi- pi0 and the pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 cross sections has been analysed in terms of isospin amplitudes. The reconstructed invariant mass distributions of the pi-pi, 3He-pi and 3He-2pi systems provide hints on the role of nucleon resonances in the 3pi production process.

Abstract: The cross section for the pd -> He-3 eta pi(0) reaction has been measured at a beam energy of 1450 MeV using the WASA detector at the CELSIUS storage ring. The He-3 was detected in coincidence with four photons from the decays of the two mesons. The data indicate that the production mechanism involves the formation of the Delta(1232) isobar. Although the beam energy does not allow the full peak of this resonance to be seen, the invariant mass distributions Of all three pairs of final particles are well reproduced by a phase space Monte Carlo simulation weighted with the p-wave factor of the square of the pi(0) momentum in the He-3 pi(0) system.

Abstract: The two-pion production in pp-collisions has been investigated in exclusive measurements from threshold up to Tp = 1.36 GeV . Total and differential cross sections have been obtained for the channels pnπ+π0, ppπ+π-, ppπ0π0 and also nnπ+π+. For intermediate incident energies Tp > 1 GeV , i.e. in the region, which is beyond the Roper excitation but at the onset of ΔΔ excitation the total ppπ0π0 cross section falls behind theoretical predictions by as much as an order of magnitude near 1.2 GeV, whereas the nnπ+π+ cross section is a factor of five larger than predicted. A model-unconstrained isospin decompostion of the cross section points to a significant contribution of an isospin 3/2 resonance other than the Δ(1232). As a possible candidate the Δ(1600) is discussed.

Abstract: The tensor polarisation of ω mesons produced in the p d → He 3 ω reaction has been studied at two energies near threshold. The He 3 nuclei were detected in coincidence with the π 0 π + π − or π 0 γ decay products of the ω . In contrast to the case of ϕ -meson production, the ω mesons are found to be unpolarised. This brings into question the applicability of the Okubo–Zweig–Iizuka rule when comparing the production of vector mesons in low energy hadronic reactions.

Abstract: The cross section for direct neutral and charged three pion production in pp interactions was measured at excess energies in the range 160–216 MeV. That comprises the first measurement of the pp→ppπ0π0π0 reaction and the direct comparison with the pp→ppπ+π−π0 process. The experiment was performed above the η meson production threshold and the cross section could be directly normalized to the cross section of the pp→ppη reaction, with the η decaying into 3 pions. Since the same final states are selected, the measurement has a low systematical error. The measured cross section ratio σ(pp→ppπ+π−π0)/σ(pp→ppπ0π0π0) is compared to predictions of dominance of different isobars in the intermediate state.

Abstract: The reaction pn → dπ0π0 constitutes the most fundamental system for the study of the ABC effect - a puzzling threshold enhancement in the ππ invariant mass spectrum of the ππ system in double-pionic fusion to nuclear bound states. The first exclusive measurements of this reaction have now been carried out at CELSIUS-WASA. They exhibit a striking low-mass enhancement in the ππ invariant mass spectrum, prove it to be a σ-channel phenomenon and falsify conventional theoretical models, which predict an associated high-mass enhancement not present in the new exclusive data. In the kinematically complete data sample we observe a ΔΔ excitation, where the interaction between the two Δ obviously plays a crucial role for the generation of the ππ low-mass enhancement.

Abstract: At CELSIUS-WASA the two-pion production in proton-proton collisisons has been measured exclusively from threshold up to the energy regime, where both of the collision partners are expected to be excited to the Δ state. The measurements constitute the first kinematically complete data samples of solid statistics in this energy range. Most of the data have been obtained for the π+π- and π0π0channels. Whereas at near-threshold energies the differential distributions can be succesfully explained by chiral dynamics and Roper excitation, respectively, the data for the π+π- channel in the ΔΔ region can be described only, if the special configuration (ΔΔ)0+ is assumed. The data for the π0π0 channel moreover exhibit a low-mass enhancement in the π0π0 invariant mass spectrum, which is reminiscent of the ABC-effect found in double-pionic fusion to light nuclei.

Abstract: The ABC effect - a puzzling threshold enhancement in the ππ invariant mass spectrum of double-pionic fusion to nuclear bound states - has been investigated since 40 years by inclusive measurements without providing a conclusive interpretation. First exclusive measurements to this topic have now been carried out at CELSIUS-WASA. They confirm a huge ππ threshold enhancement, prove it to be of scalar-isoscalar nature, i.e., a σ-channel phenomenon and reveal the theoretically predicted high-mass enhancement in inclusive spectra to be of πππ rather than of ππ nature - falsifying thus corresponding model predictions for the ABC effect. From the kinematically complete data samples we infer that the interaction between the two Δ particles created in this process is of crucial importance.

Abstract: Exclusive measurements of the reactions p d → He 3 π + π − and p d → He 3 π 0 π 0 have been carried out at T p = 0.893 GeV at the CELSIUS storage ring using the WASA detector. The π + π − channel evidences a pronounced enhancement at low invariant ππ masses—as anticipated from previous inclusive measurements of the ABC effect. This enhancement is seen to be even much larger in the isoscalar π 0 π 0 channel. The differential distributions prove this enhancement to be of scalar–isoscalar nature. ΔΔ calculations give a good description of the data, if a boundstate condition is imposed for the intermediate ΔΔ system.
