Abstract

For a real weighted homogeneous hypersurface germ, we consider elliptic deformations and related special functions. Singularities of these special functions are characterized by some rational numbers called energy exponents. We apply the residue mapping to the corresponding Fourier integrals and give a geometric interpretation of the energy exponents in the terms of the volume of the associated Lagrangian manifold. The energy exponents are calculated for a series of examples. Two conjectures concerning the energy exponents are discussed.

Abstract

Properties of sheaves of graded Lie algebras associated with a flat mapping of complex spaces are established. In particular, for a minimal versal deformation the tangent algebra of a fiber defines a linearization of the algebra of liftable fields on the base, which in turn enables one to find the discriminant of the deformation and its modular subspace. A criterion is obtained for the nilpotency of the tangent algebra of the germ of a hypersurface with a unique singular point. It is proved that in the algebra of liftable fields on the base of a minimal versal deformation of such a germ there always exists a basis with symmetric coefficient matrix.

Abstract

The problem of determination of the shape of a hill from travel time was solved by N. H. Abel in his third paper written in 1823. He gave more complete arguments in a paper of 1826. The problem is to find the form of the hill y = h (x), 0 ≤ x ≤ X0 from knowledge of the function t = t (x), 0 < x ≤ X0, t being the time a material point spend to move from (x, y (x)) to (0, y (0)) in the gravitation field.

Abstract

Asymptotic expansions are studied for integrals of holomorphic forms over cycles in the Milnor fibration close to a critical level surface of a holomorphic function. Some regular features are found for the set of exponents in such expansions, and computational results are given. Asymptotic expansions are also considered for real integrals connected with analytic functions. A connection is established between expansions of integrals in a complex region and a real region.Bibliography: 30 titles.

Abstract

In this paper the system of differential equations is studied in a domain in . Differential relations between the coefficients are indicated under which the homogeneous system () has infinitely many linearly independent local solutions at each point. Global solvability of the system is studied. It is proved that this problem, and also the description of global solutions of the homogeneous system, reduces to analogous questions for a connection of the type in a line bundle over a Riemann surface, related to the original system in a natural way. Using this reduction, in some cases one can establish that the index of the operator corresponding to this system is finite and find a formula for it.Bibliography: 11 titles.

Abstract

The origin of deformation theory lies in the problem of moduli, first considered by Riemann. The problem in the theory of moduli can be described thus: to bring together all objects of a single type in analytic geometry, for example, all Riemann surfaces of given genus; to organize them by joining them into a fiber space; to describe the base of this space—the moduli space; to introduce on it an analytic structure; and to study the natural parameters, for example, the periods of holomorphic forms defined on Riemann surfaces. For nonsingular Riemann surfaces the moduli space was constructed in the theory of Teichmuller-Ahlfors-Bers, and the periods of holomorphic forms were described by the billinear relations of Riemann and the theorem of Rauch. But the problem of moduli for multidimensional complex manifolds turned out to be significantly more complicated. Its systematic study began with the work of Kodaira and Spencer in which the basic object of study was the analytic families of complex structures on given smooth manifold. The concept of a complete effective family, due to KodairaSpencer, served as a substitute for the moduli space, but it had various peculiar properties: the structure of the fibers of this family can vary “continuously” along one curve in the base and have “jumps” along another, and the base itself can have singular points (Kuranishi).

Abstract

This paper deals with the categories of direct and inverse countable spectra of locally convex spaces and with the functors of inductive and projective limits defined on these categories. We study the homological properties of such functors, introduce their satellites, and search for conditions for these satellites to vanish. We then apply the accumulated information about the functors of the limiting processes to certain problems in the theory of locally convex spaces: topological properties of a locally convex inductive limit, the homomorphism of the adjoint operator, the possibility of extending and lifting a map and the properties of the augmentation functor. We also consider examples of certain "pathologies".

Abstract

In this paper we find necessary and sufficient conditions for the operator, acting in the Dolbeault complex of an analytic locally free sheaf of finite type on a complex manifold, to split in a given dimension, i.e. to possess a linear continuous right inverse operator. In particular, from this it follows that on a Stein manifold the operator always splits in all positive dimensions, while it does not split in dimension zero. We also consider some questions connected with this; in particular, the splitting of operators in the Frechet spaces and the splitting of the de Rham complex on a differentiable manifold.Bibliography: 11 items.

Abstract

The present article is concerned with research in the last five to ten years on systems of linear partial differential equations. The total number of published works in this area, of course, is too great to cover each one in sufficient detail. While consciously refraining from undertaking such a task, I have endeavored to focus a proportionate amount of attention on each facet of the topic insofar as it embodies the characteristics which distinguish the theory of systems from the analogous theory of one equation in one unknown function. For example, considerable space is accorded the -Neumann problem, which is endowed with a specialized character and whose solution has contributed a great deal that is conceptually new to the general theory. On the other hand, the highly-developed theory of boundary-value problems is scarcely touched at all, as its methods pertain by and large to scalar theory.
