Abstract: High-momentum configurations of nucleon pairs at short-distance are probed using measurements of the 12C(e,e′p) and 12C(e,e′pN) reactions (where N is either n or p), at high-Q2 and xB>1.1. The data span a missing-momentum range of 300–1000 MeV/c and are predominantly sensitive to the transition region of the strong nuclear interaction from a Tensor to Scalar interaction. The data are well reproduced by theoretical calculations using the Generalized Contact Formalism with both chiral and phenomenological nucleon-nucleon (NN) interaction models. This agreement suggests that the measured high missing-momentum protons up to 1000 MeV/c predominantly belong to short-ranged correlated (SRC) pairs. The measured 12C(e,e′pN) / 12C(e,e′p) and 12C(e,e′pp) / 12C(e,e′pn) cross-section ratios are consistent with a decrease in the fraction of proton-neutron SRC pairs and increase in the fraction of proton-proton SRC pairs with increasing missing momentum. This confirms the transition from an isospin-dependent tensor NN interaction at ∼400 MeV/c to an isospin-independent scalar interaction at high-momentum around ∼800 MeV/c as predicted by theoretical calculation.

Abstract: Previous studies of proton and neutron spectra from Non-Mesonic Weak Decay of eight Λ-Hypernuclei (A=5–16) have been revisited. New values of the ratio of the two-nucleon and the one-proton induced decay widths, Γ2N/Γp, are obtained from single proton spectra, Γ2N/Γp=0.50±0.24, and from neutron and proton coincidence spectra, Γ2N/Γp=0.36±0.14stat−0.04sys+0.05sys, in full agreement with previously published ones. With these values, a method is developed to extract the one-proton induced decay width in units of the free Λ decay width, Γp/ΓΛ, without resorting to Intra Nuclear Cascade models but by exploiting only experimental data, under the assumption of a linear dependence on A of the Final State Interaction contribution. This is the first systematic determination ever done and it agrees within the errors with recent theoretical calculations. Abstract: PANDA (anti-proton annihiliation at Darmstadt) is planned to be one of the four main experiments at the future international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. It is going to address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using cooled antiproton beams with a high intensity and and momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. PANDA is designed to reach a maximum luminosity of 2 × 1032 cm−2 s. Most of the physics programs require an excellent particle identification (PID). The PID of hadronic states at the forward endcap of the target spectrometer will be done by a fast and compact Cherenkov detector that uses the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) principle. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 5° to 22° and to provide a separation power for the separation of charged pions and kaons up to 3 standard deviations (s.d.) for particle momenta up to 4 GeV/c in order to cover the important particle phase space. This document describes the technical design and the expected performance of the novel PANDA disc DIRC detector that has not been used in any other high energy physics experiment before. The performance has been studied with Monte-Carlo simulations and various beam tests at DESY and CERN. The final design meets all PANDA requirements and guarantees sufficient safety margins.

Abstract: The article examines a particular aspect of the 14th-century Hungarian manuscript known as Chronicon pictum. The series of kings and knights that appear in the miniatures of the codex are examined in comparison with other European cases, documented not only in manuscripts, but also in the wall paintings of various late medieval kingdoms, to try to identify the reasons for this staging. It cannot be excluded that in Hungary there were galleries of portraits of kings or ancestors in the public rooms of Angevin castles, as was later to occur under the rule of King Matthias Corvinus in the 15th century.

Abstract: The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Lambda}\Lambda$ and $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Xi}^+\Xi^-$. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures. Abstract: The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, provides unique possibilities for a new generation of hadron-, nuclear- and atomic physics experiments. The future antiProton ANnihilations at DArmstadt (PANDA or $$\overline{\mathrm{P}}$$ P ¯ ANDA) experiment at FAIR will offer a broad physics programme, covering different aspects of the strong interaction. Understanding the latter in the non-perturbative regime remains one of the greatest challenges in contemporary physics. The antiproton–nucleon interaction studied with PANDA provides crucial tests in this area. Furthermore, the high-intensity, low-energy domain of PANDA allows for searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. through high precision symmetry tests. This paper takes into account a staged approach for the detector setup and for the delivered luminosity from the accelerator. The available detector setup at the time of the delivery of the first antiproton beams in the HESR storage ring is referred to as the Phase One setup. Si propone anche una ricostruzione dell'originario contesto di produzione e alcune riflessioni sulla specificità delle tombe femminili nella Napoli angioina.

14. Rimembranza e perennità dei cavalieri angioini dell’Ordre du Saint-Esprit au Droit Désir (Napoli, 1352)

Abstract: Il saggio prende in esame da un'ottica inedita il celebre manoscritto miniato contenente gli Statuts de l'Ordre du Noeud, coservato a Parigi (BnF, Français 4274) e miniato a Napoli intorno al 1353 da Cristoforo Orimina. Oggetto di numerosi interventi critici negli ultimi decenni, il codice non è mai stato indagato dal punto di vista dello studio delle tombe monumentali napoletane trecentesche. Eppure non solo le prescrizioni statutarie dell'ordine cavalleresco dedicano diversi capitoli alla questione sepolcrale, ma le carte 9r e 9v mostrano tipologie sepolcrali che possono sicuramente confrontarsi con tombe angioine ancora conservatesi a Napoli: il sarcofago su colonnine reggente un gisant e il sarcofago inserito in una struttura più complessa, con le basi poggiate su leoni scolpiti e figure che affiancano il gisant. Nell'articolo si prendono in esame queste componenti, si analizza il testo corrispondente, vi si individua la volontà programmatica di perpetuare il nome dei cavalieri attraverso le memorie funerarie e si mette in parallelo tale volontà con l'operazione di scrittura di un libro contenente le avventure degli stessi cavalieri, secondo una pratica riscontrabile, ad esempio, nel Tirant lo Blanch dello scrittore valenziano Joanot Martorell. L'approccio di metodo è interdisciplinare, chiamando in causa storia, storia dell'arte e letteratura medievale.

Abstract: International audience; The CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer for operation at 12 GeV beam energy (CLAS12) in Hall B at Jefferson Laboratory is used to study electro-induced nuclear and hadronic reactions. This spectrometer provides efficient detection of charged and neutral particles over a large fraction of the full solid angle. CLAS12 has been part of the energy-doubling project of Jefferson Lab’s Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility, funded by the United States Department of Energy. An international collaboration of 48 institutions contributed to the design and construction of detector hardware, developed the software packages for the simulation of complex event patterns, and commissioned the detector systems. CLAS12 is based on a dual-magnet system with a superconducting torus magnet that provides a largely azimuthal field distribution that covers the forward polar angle range up to 35 ∘ , and a solenoid magnet and detector covering the polar angles from 35° to 125° with full azimuthal coverage. Trajectory reconstruction in the forward direction using drift chambers and in the central direction using a vertex tracker results in momentum resolutions of < 1% and < 3%, respectively. Cherenkov counters, time-of-flight scintillators, and electromagnetic calorimeters provide good particle identification. Fast triggering and high data-acquisition rates allow operation at a luminosity of 1035 cm −2 s −1 . These capabilities are being used in a broad program to study the structure and interactions of nucleons, nuclei, and mesons, using polarized and unpolarized electron beams and targets for beam energies up to 11 GeV. This paper gives a general description of the design, construction, and performance of CLAS12.

Si prende in esame in particolar modo la !gura di Heinrich Wilhelm Schulz (1808-1855), provando a individuare l’originario contesto di formazione intellettuale e storica, e confrontando le sue indagini storicoartistiche, ma prima di tutto storiche in senso lato, con l’interesse che quel territorio suscitò in Italia e in Europa negli anni a cavallo tra Ottocento e Novecento.1

Abstract: In questo articolo si prende in esame lo sguardo che gli storici ungheresi a cavallo tra XIX e XX secolo hanno posato sulle relazioni che nel corso del tardo Medioevo collegarono, in maniera spesso inscindibile, il Regno di Sicilia con quello d’Ungheria. Si ricostruiscono così le varie facce di un prisma storiogra!co in cui il nesso angioino Napoli-Ungheria si venne a costituire come un tema di ricerca piuttosto privilegiato, oggetto di costante attenzione negli studi storici ungheresi !n dall’Età moderna, ma soprattutto in un’epoca in cui il nazionalismo aveva necessità di nutrirsi di un passato medievale pieno di gloria, in cui riconoscere, quasi paradossalmente, nei re venuti da Napoli uno degli elementi di spicco dell’identità ungherese.

Abstract: Nella vasta bibliografia su Pietro Toesca è mancato finora il sia pur minimo accenno ai suoi rapporti con l’architetto catalano Josep Puig i Cadafalch, autore prolifico di saggi e libri dedicati all’architettura romanica e alla genesi delle sue forme, intellettuale e uomo politico di primo piano nella costruzione e nella difesa di una Catalogna indipendente. Alcune lettere di Toesca a Puig i Cadafalch, custodite nell’Arxiu National de Catalunya e qui pubblicate per la prima volta, documentano l’esistenza di una relazione tra i due studiosi basata su scambi di pubblicazioni e di cortesie accademiche, oltre che su una stima che si intuisce reciproca. In termini analoghi si viene a configurare il rapporto con Adolfo Venturi, attestato anche da tre lettere, ugualmente inedite, conservate nel fondo Venturi alla Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa.

Abstract: A large area ring-imaging Cherenkov detector will be operated for hadron identification in the 3 GeV / c to 8 GeV / c momentum range at the CLAS12 experiment at the upgraded continuous electron beam accelerator facility of Jefferson Lab. The detector, consisting of aerogel radiator, composite mirrors and photon counters, will be built with a hybrid optics design to allow the detection of Cherenkov light for both forward and large angle hadron tracks. The active area has to be densely packed and highly segmented, covering about 1 m 2 with pixels of 6 mm 2 , and to allow a time resolution of 1 ns. A technology that can offer a cost-effective solution and low material budget could be Silicon Photomultipliers (SiPM) thanks to their high gain at low bias voltage, fast timing, good single-photoelectron resolution and insensitivity to magnetic fields. An investigation is ongoing on samples of 3 × 3 mm 2 SiPM of different micro-cell size to assess the single photon detection capability in the presence of high dark count rate due to thermal generation effects, after-pulses or optical cross-talk and to study the response to the moderate radiation damage expected at CLAS12. In this work, a brief review of the latest and most interesting results from these studies will be shown.

Abstract: High-momentum configurations of nucleon pairs at short-distance are probed using measurements of the $^{12}$C$(e,e'p)$ and $^{12}$C$(e,e'pN)$ reactions (where $N$ is either $n$ or $p$), at high-$Q^2$ and $x_B>1.1$. The data span a missing-momentum range of 300--1000 MeV/c and are predominantly sensitive to the transition region of the strong nuclear interaction from a Tensor to Scalar interaction. The data are well reproduced by theoretical calculations using the Generalized Contact Formalism with both chiral and phenomenological nucleon-nucleon ($NN$) interaction models. This agreement suggests that the measured high missing-momentum protons up to $1000$ MeV/c predominantly belong to short-ranged correlated (SRC) pairs. The measured $^{12}$C$(e,e'pN)$ / $^{12}$C$(e,e'p)$ and $^{12}$C$(e,e'pp)$ / $^{12}$C$(e,e'pn)$ cross-section ratios are consistent with a decrease in the fraction of proton-neutron SRC pairs and increase in the fraction of proton-proton SRC pairs with increasing missing momentum. Abstract: The $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ (anti-Proton ANnihiliation at DArmstadt) experiment will be one of the four flagship experiments at the new international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ will address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using high-intensity cooled antiproton beams with momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c and a design luminosity of up to 2 × 1032 cm−2 s−1. Excellent particle identification (PID) is crucial to the success of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ physics program. Hadronic PID in the barrel region of the target spectrometer will be performed by a fast and compact Cherenkov counter using the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) technology. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 22° to 140° and will provide at least 3 standard deviations (s.d.) π/K separation up to 3.5 GeV/c, matching the expected upper limit of the final state kaon momentum distribution from simulation. This documents describes the technical design and the expected performance of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ Barrel DIRC detector. The design is based on the successful BaBar DIRC with several key improvements. The performance and system cost were optimized in detailed detector simulations and validated with full system prototypes using particle beams at GSI and CERN. The final design meets or exceeds the PID goal of clean π/K separation with at least 3 s.d. over the entire phase space of charged kaons in the Barrel DIRC.

Abstract: Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. For the first time, high resolution gamma-spectroscopy of doubly strange Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei will be performed, thus complementing measurements of ground state decays of Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei at J-PARC or possible decays of particle unstable hypernuclei in heavy ion reactions. High resolution spectroscopy of multistrange Xi(-) -atoms will be feasible and even the production of Omega(-) -atoms will be within reach. The latter might open the door to the vertical bar S vertical bar = 3 world in strangeness nuclear physics, by the study of the hadronic Omega(-) -nucleus interaction. Abstract: A ring imaging Cherenkov (RICH) detector has been installed in the CLAS12 spectrometer at Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) to provide kaon identification in the momentum range between 3 GeV/c and 8 GeV/c. The detector adopts a hybrid optics solution with aerogel radiator, light planar and spherical mirrors, and highly segmented photon detectors. We report here on the design, construction, and initial performance of the RICH during the commissioning of the detector and the first physics data taking period.

Abstract: The first module of a Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector has been recently installed on the CLAS12 spectrometer at the Jefferson Laboratory (JLab) to provide the experiment with kaon identification in the momentum range between 3 and 8 GeV/c. The detector adopts a hybrid optics solution with aerogel radiator, light planar and spherical mirrors and highly-segmented photon detectors. We report here on the assembly and installation of the RICH and we show the first preliminary results obtained during the commissioning of the detector and the first physics data taking.

Abstract: The first module of the hybrid-optics large-area CLAS12 RICH at JLab has been recently put into operation using for the first time the well known Hamamatsu H8500 MAPMT and the new single-photon dedicated H12700, for a total of about 400 MAPMTs and 25000 pixels. The photon detector must efficiently detect single photons in the visible and near-UV light region, provide a fast response for background rejection and pattern recognition, and have a spatial resolution of less than 1 cm over an area of ≈ 1 m 2 . Each front-end readout unit is composed of three electronic boards with specific tasks directly connected to groups of 2 or 3 sensors. The core of the readout is composed of MAROC3 and FPGA chips. The MAROC3 chip is able to discriminate the 64 signals from one MAPMT and to produce 64 corresponding binary outputs with 100% efficiency starting at a small fraction of the single-photon signal, while the FPGA chip provides 1 ns TDC capability with 8 μ s maximum latency and acts as a DAQ controller. The system is designed to be almost dead-time free at the foreseen 20 kHz CLAS12 trigger rate. The best working conditions for single-photon detection have been studied at laser stands, test beams, and with the JLab electron beam data. A report of the photon detector preparation, commissioning and operation is here discussed.

Abstract: In questo articolo si ricostruisce la memoria "monumentale" dei re angioini nella Napoli della prima età moderna, attraverso una nuova analisi testuale della letteratura storico-erudita e dei suoi costanti riferimenti al patrimonio artistico e architettonico medievale. Sulla base dei risultati di questa analisi testuale, si formulano ipotesi, basate sul confronto con i dati storici e storiografici, sulle ragioni della conservazione, della distruzione o del rifacimento delle architetture e delle tombe monumentali promosse dai sovrani angioini, individuandone le motivazioni, attinenti alle esigenze di rappresentazione pubblica del potere. Il tema è originale, in quanto raramente trattato finora negli studi storico-artistici su Napoli. La metodologia adottata implica un approccio interdisciplinare al tema.

Abstract: The decay of Λ -hypernuclei without π emission, known as Non-Mesonic Weak Decay (NMWD), gives an effective tool to investigate Δ S = 1 four-baryon interactions. It was theoretically suggested that the two-nucleon induced mechanism could play a substantial role in reproducing the observed NMWD decay rates and nucleon spectra, but at present no direct evidence of such a mechanism has been obtained. The FINUDA experiment, exploiting the possibility to detect both charged and neutral particles coming from the hypernucleus decay, has allowed us to deduce the relative weight of the two nucleon induced decay rate to the total NMWD rate. The value of Γ 2 N / Γ NMWD = 0.21 ± 0.07 stat − 0.02 sys + 0.03 sys has been deduced, well consistent with the previous determinations.

Abstract: New spectra from the FINUDA experiment of the Non Mesonic Weak Decay (NMWD) proton kinetic energy for 9(Lambda)Be, 11(Lambda)B, 12(Lambda)C, 13(Lambda)C, 15 (Lambda)N and 16(Lambda)O are presented and discussed along with the published data on 5(Lambda)He and 7(Lambda)Li. Exploiting the large mass number range and the low energy threshold (15 MeV) for the proton detection of FINUDA, an evaluation of both Final State Interactions (FSI) and the two nucleon induced NMWD contributions to the decay process has been done. Based on this evaluation, a linear dependence of FSI on the hypernuclear mass number A is found and for the two nucleon stimulated decay rate the experimental value of Gamma2/Gammap=0.43+-0.25 is determined for the first time. A value for the two nucleon stimulated decay rate to the total decay rate Gamma2/GammaNMWD=0.24+-0.10 is also extracted., 11 pages and 2 figures

Abstract: The exclusive charmonium production process in (P) over barp annihilation with an associated pi 0 meson (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0) is studied in the framework of QCD collinear factorization. The feasibility of measuring this reaction through the J/psi -> e(+) e(-) decay channel with the AntiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt ((P) over bar ANDA) experiment is investigated. Simulations on signal reconstruction efficiency as well as the background rejection from various sources including the (P) over barp -> pi(+)pi(-)pi(0) and (p) over barp -> J/psi pi(0)pi(0) reactions are performed with PANDAROOT, the simulation and analysis software framework of the (P) over bar ANDA experiment. It is shown that the measurement can be done at (P) over bar ANDA with significant constraining power under the assumption of an integrated luminosity attainable in four to five months of data taking at the maximum design luminosity.

Abstract: The presence of exotic states of matter in neutron stars (NSs) is currently an open issue in physics. The appearance of muons, kaons, hyperons, and other exotic particles in the inner regions of the NS, favored by energetic considerations, is considered to be an effective mechanism to soften the equation of state (EoS). In the so-called two-families scenario, the softening of the EoS allows for NSs characterized by very small radii, which become unstable and convert into a quark stars (QSs). In the process of conversion of a NS into a QS material can be ablated by neutrinos from the surface of the star. Not only neutron-rich nuclei, but also more exotic material, such as hypernuclei or deconfined quarks, could be ejected into the atmosphere. In the NS atmosphere, atoms like H, He, and C should exist, and attempts to model the NS thermal emission taking into account their presence, with spectra modified by the extreme magnetic fields, have been done. However, exotic atoms, like muonic hydrogen $(p\,\mu^-)$ or the so-called Sigmium $(\Sigma^+\,e^-)$, could also be present during the conversion process or in its immediate aftermath. At present, analytical expressions of the wave functions and eigenvalues for these atoms have been calculated only for H. In this work, we extend the existing solutions and parametrizations to the exotic atoms $(p\,\mu^-)$ and $(\Sigma^+\,e^-)$, making some predictions on possible transitions. Abstract: A large area imaging Cherenkov detector is under construction to provide hadron identification in the momentum range between 3 and 8 GeV/c for the CLAS12 exeperiment at the new 12 GeV electron beam of the Jefferson Laboratory (JLab). The detector adopts a hybrid optics solution with aerogel radiator, light planar and spherical mirrors and highly-segmented photon detectors. Cherenkov photons will be imaged either directly (for forward tracks) or after two mirror reflections (large angle tracks). The status of the detector construction is here reported.

Abstract: FINUDA is the hypernuclear physics experiment carried out at DAΦNE, the e+e- ϕ-factory of the INFN Frascati Laboratory. The aim of the experiment is to study simultaneously the formation and decay of hypernuclei produced by the strangeness exchange reaction induced by the stopped K- coming from the decay of the ϕ(1020) mesons. This paper presents the first preliminary results concerning spectrometer performances, hypernuclear formation and decay from the first FINUDA data set.

Abstract: Previous studies of proton and neutron spectra from Non-Mesonic Weak Decay of eight Lambda-Hypernuclei (A = 5-16) have been revisited. New values of the ratio of the two-nucleon and the one-proton induced decay widths, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p, are obtained from single proton spectra, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p = 0.50 +/- 0.24, and from neutron and proton coincidence spectra, Gamma_2N/Gamma_p = 0.36 +/- 0.14stat +0.05sys -0.04sys , in full agreement with previously published ones. With these values, a method is developed to extract the one-proton induced decay width in units of the free Lambda decay width, Gamma_p/Gamma_Lambda, without resorting to Intra Nuclear Cascade models but by exploiting only experimental data, under the assumption of a linear dependence on A of the Final State Interaction contribution. This is the first systematic determination ever done and it agrees within the errors with recent theoretical calculations., Comment: 16 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables

Abstract: This Letter is concerned with the study of the K stop − A → π ± Σ ∓ A ′ reaction in p-shell nuclei, i.e., 6,7 Li, 9 Be, 13 C and 16 O. The π ± Σ ∓ / K stop − emission rates are reported as a function of A . These rates are discussed in comparison with previous findings. The ratio π − Σ + / π + Σ − in p-shell nuclei is found to depart largely from that on hydrogen, which provides support for large in-medium effects possibly generated by the sub-threshold Λ ( 1405 ) . The continuum momentum spectra of prompt pions and free sigmas are also discussed as well as the π ± Σ ∓ missing mass behavior and the link with the reaction mechanism. The apparatus used for the investigation is the FINUDA spectrometer operating at the DA Φ NE ϕ -factory (LNF-INFN, Italy).

Abstract: Large-area silicon drift detectors (SDDs) were used for the first time in the background condition of a collider for precision spectroscopy of the kaonic atom X-rays in the SIDDHARTA experiment for the study of the strong interaction in a low-energy regime. The measurements were performed at the DA Φ NE electron–positron collider (LNF, Italy), using gas targets of hydrogen, deuterium, helium-3, and helium-4. A test measurement using the kaonic 4 He X-rays showed an excellent performance of the SDD devices under the beam conditions, and a good background suppression capability using the time correlation between the kaonic atom X-rays and the back-to-back correlated K + K − pairs produced by φ decays.

Abstract: The SIDDHARTA experiment (SIlicon Drift Detector for Hadronic Atom Research by Timing Application) had the aim to perform a precise measurement of K-series kaonic hydrogen x-rays and the first-ever measurement of the kaonic deuterium x-rays to determine the strong-interaction energy-level shifts and widths of the lowest lying atomic states. These measurements offer a unique possibility to precisely determine the isospin-dependent kaon-nucleon(KN) scattering lengths which are directly connected with the physics of the KN interaction. The experiment combined the excellent low-energy kaon beam generated at DAΦNE, allowing to use gaseous targets, with excellent fast X-rays detectors: Silicon Drift Detectors. SIDDHARTA was installed on DAΦNE in autumn 2008 and took data till late 2009. Apart of the kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium measurements, we have performed the kaonic helium transitions to the 2 p level (L-lines) measurements: for the first time in a gaseous target for kaonic helium 4 and for the first time ever for kaonic helium 3. In this paper, an overview of this experiment and preliminary results are presented, together with future plans.

Abstract: The FINUDA (FIsica NUcleare a DAɸNE) experiment was built in order to study the interactions of stopped K - on nuclei, with emphasis on Hypernuclear spectroscopy and Hypernuclei decays. Due to the nice performances of the spectrometer, it proved also suited to study, more generally, final states with several particles and able to recostruct secondary vertices, hence greatly enlarging the physical topics that could be addressed.

Abstract: This contribution describes a recent experimental study of the A ( K s t o p − , π ± Σ ∓ ) A ′ reaction on light nuclei, Li 6 , 7 , Be 9 , C 13 and O 16 . Final π ± Σ ∓ pairs arise from π + π − n events. For some nuclei, the π + momentum spectrum presents peak-strucures in the kinematical interval of formation of Σ-hypernuclear states. The apparatus used for the investigation is the FINUDA spectrometer set at DAΦNE.

Abstract: The K ¯ N system at rest makes a sensitive testing ground for chiral SU(3) symmetry in QCD, especially for the explicit symmetry breaking induced by the relatively large mass of the strange quark. At the DAΦNE electron-positron collider of Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati we study kaonic atoms, taking advantage of the low-energy kaons from Φ-mesons decaying nearly at rest. The low-energy antikaon-nucleon interaction in kaonic hydrogen and kaonic deuterium can be investigated under favorable conditions. The DEAR (DAΦNE Exotic Atom Research) experiment at LNF delivered the most precise data on kaonic hydrogen up to now. DEAR and its follow-up experiment SIDDHARTA (Silicon Drift Detector for Hadronic Atom Research by Timing Application) are using X-ray spectroscopy of kaonic atoms to measure the strong interaction induced shift and width of the ground state. SIDDHARTA is the first experiment on kaonic deuterium ever, and kaonic hydrogen is remeasured with improved precision. From the shift and width in K-p and K-d the isospin-dependent antikaon-nucleon scattering lengths can be determined, quantities essential as constraints for low-energy QCD.
