1. Microseismicity spectral features analysis of the Mutnovsky volcano fumarole fields area

Abstract

Time-frequency analysis of 40-hour seismic records of the temporary seismological network, performed using a systematic visual inspection of seismograms, spectrograms, and signal spectra in small time windows (from 30 s to 10 min), made it possible to identify several manifestations of volcanic seismicity in the Mutnovsky fumarole field area, as well as some non-volcanic signals. The former includes signals interpreted as a volcano-tectonic earthquake (only a single event was found), multiple swarms of hybrid and long-period earthquakes, as well as a stable (constant for 40 hours) microseismic signal likely related to the gas-hydrothermal activity of fumarole fields in the northeastern crater of the volcano. For specific stations of the network, the differences between simultaneously recorded signals were considered, an assessment was made of the influence of natural factors characteristic of the study area: hydrogeological and meteorological.

Abstract

In the records of autonomous seismological observations occurrence of quartz watch clock drift often leads to incorrect time records. This paper presents a method for detecting such errors in a seismic station network based on the analysis of ambient seismic noise cross-correlation functions using Monte-Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) approach without using a reference signal. The proposed method was tested on the seismic data of a temporary seismic network installed on Paramushir Island in 2021-2022 for which time shifts were successfully estimated and corrections to the cross-correlation functions were made.

Abstract

International audience; Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 ( $\sqrt{s_{NN}}=$ 2.7--4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials ( $\mu_B > 500$ MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation of state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2024, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.

Abstract

To analyze the spinal mechanisms of neuroplastic changes induced by neuromidin (ipidacrine) in a model of traumatic axonotomy of the sciatic nerve in rats.The histological study of the material from the anterior horn (lumbar portion of spinal cord) was performed in 6 rats using electron microscopy.The comparative analysis of neuromorphological changes in rats of control and main groups revealed the neuroprotective and modifying effects of neuromidin on the spinal neuroplasticity.Цель исследования. Анализ спинальных нейропластических механизмов, индуцированных применением антихолинэстеразного препарата нейромидин (ипидакрин), при моделировании травматической аксонотомии седалищного нерва у крыс. Материал и методы. Исследование проводилось путем гистологического изучения материала из переднерогового сегмента поясничного отдела спинного мозга 6 крыс (электронная микроскопия). Результаты и заключение. Сравнительный анализ нейроморфологических изменений у животных основной и контрольной групп показал наличие у нейромидина нейропротективной активности и модулирующего действия на спинальную нейропластичность у крыс.

Abstract

The aim of the study was to establish the clinical and morphological characteristics of female urethral polyps including cases with concomitant sexually transmitted infections. A total of 150 women were enrolled in the study. The evaluation of microcirculatory changes, morphological parameters and immunogram indices of urethral polyps were carried out. The most common infectious agent in patients with urethral polyps was Ureaplasma urealyticum. In those cases predominance of inflammatory symptoms and elevated levels of serum proinflammatory cytokines were identified. It is found that the pronounced inflammatory reaction leads to an increase in the relative area of the subepithelial microvascular bed and the cellular elements population of lamina mucosa propria, as well as to the relative predominance of congestive forms of microcirculation disturbances according to the laser Doppler flowmetry.

Abstract

The paper proposes an automatic system of fuel oil metering in vertical cylindrical tanks. The system makes it possible to execute continuous control over weight and temperature of fuel oil in a tank and metering of dead residue and initiates a signal system when fuel oil reaches an appropriate level in the case of filling. Nowadays the automatic weight control system of fuel oil has passed through metrological certification and is in operation at the Polotsk thermal power station.

Abstract

To evaluate the cognitive changes in patients with mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease after the treatment with acetylcholinesterase inhibitors - neuromidin and galantamine.Fifty-eight patients with probable Alzheimer's disease, aged 60-84 years (mean 73.2±6.7), were enrolled in a 20-week double-blind parallel group study. All patients were randomized in 2 groups: group 1 (n=28) received neuromidin, group 2 (n=30) - galantamine. Treatment efficacy was evaluated with the ADAS-cog/11 scale.Both drugs significantly improved or stabilized cognitive function in the patients. The most marked changes were obtained in the group of patients treated with neuromidin (р0.05).The results suggest that the effectiveness of anticholinesterase treatment of Alzheimer's disease could be determined not only by the central but also peripheral cholinergic action.Цель исследования - изучение изменений в когнитивной сфере у пациентов с болезнью Альцгеймера (БА) легкой и средней степени тяжести при лечении нейромидином и галантамином. Материал и методы. Проведено 20-недельное двойное слепое исследование с участием 58 больных 60-84 лет (средний - 73,2±6,7 года) с вероятным диагнозом БА. Они были рандомизированы в 2 группы: пациентам 1-й группы (n=28) был назначен нейромидин, 2-й группы (n=30) - галантамин. Эффективность препаратов оценивалась с помощью шкалы ADAS-cog/11. Результаты. Установили, что оба препарата достоверно улучшают или стабилизируют когнитивные функции. Более выраженные изменения были получены в группе пациентов, получавших нейромидин (р0,05). Заключение. Высказано предположение, что эффективность антихолинэстеразной терапии при БА может быть обусловлена не только центральным, но и периферическим холинергическим действием.

Abstract

N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors belong to the group of inotropic glutamate receptors, which are found in rat cardiomyocytes.Aim. To evaluate the influence of a non-competitive antagonist of NMDA-receptors — МК-801, separately or in combination with glutamate and/or glycine, on cardiodynamic parameters, coronary flow and oxidative stress biomarkers in isolated rat heart.Materials and methods. 40 Wistar albino rats were divided into 4 groups (10 rats per group). Aorta of isolated rat heart was cannulated and perfused retrogradely by Krebs-Henseleit buffer in the Langendorf mode. Group 1 received МК-801 (50 µmol/l), group 2 received МК-801 and glycine (100 µmol/l), group 3 received МК-801 and glutamate (100 µmol/l) and group 4 received МК-801, glutamate and glycine. Parameters of cardiac dynamics and coronary blood flow were registered during the last minute of tested substance infusion (E) and at the point when artery perfusate samples were taken at the end of the control period (C). The difference between two points (C and E) was calculated and expressed in percent with a standard deviation.Results. Group 1 demonstrated the most prominent decrease of peak left ventricle (LV) pressure increase velocity (–47.59 ± 5.65)%, systolic and diastolic LV pressure: (–45.18 ± 4.87)% and (–37.24 ± 5.15)%, respectively and cardiac rate: (–28.63 ± 3.00)%. The most significant decrease of minimal LV pressure increase velocity was observed in group 2: (–47.43 ± 5.68)%, decrease of coronary blood flow — in group 3: (–23.02 ± 2.49)%. The most significant decline of oxidative stress biomarkers — nitrite and hydrogen peroxide — was observed in group 3: (–29.24 ± 2,70)% and (–23.43 ± 3.15)%, respectively; of superoxide anion radical (O2–) — in group 2: (–55.72 ± 6.90)%, of lipid peroxidation index — in group 1: (–35.77 ± 4.49)%.Conclusion. Administration of МК-801 results in a statistically significant decrease of cardiac dynamic parameters and lipid peroxidation index, compared to MK-801 in combination with glutamate and/or glycine.

Abstract

Aim. To study the effect of simultaneous administration of creatine phosphate immediately before ischemia on cardiodynamic parameters and biomarkers of oxidative stress in the coronary venous blood flow during retrograde perfusion in an isolated rat heart.Materials and methods. 20 Wistar albino rats were divided into 2 groups: group 1 (control) and group 2 (experimental), 10 rats per group. Cannulation and retrograde perfusion of aorta of an isolated rat heart with Krebs–Henseleit buffered solution by Landendorff was performed. Both groups underwent ischemia-reperfusion injury, which included global ischemia for 20 minutes followed by reperfusion for 30 minutes. The group 2 (experimental) was preconditioned with creatine phosphate at a dose of 0.2 mmol/l for 5 min before ischemia. We registered cardiodynamic parameters and indicators of oxidative stress at the point of stabilization, at the 1st and 30th minutes of reperfusion.Results. With the impact of creatine phosphate at the 30th minute of reperfusion in the group 2 in comparison with group 1, there was found an increase in the maximum and minimum speed of pressure elevation in the left ventricle (1.7 and 1.9 times, respectively), and of systolic and diastolic pressure in the left ventricle (1.5 and 1.6 times, respectively). Biomarkers of oxidative stress (lipid peroxidation index, nitrites, superoxide anion radical and hydrogen peroxide) were also statistically significantly lower in the group 2 after the 1st minute of reperfusion (by 1.2 times, by 1.4 times, by 2.8 times and 1.9 times, respectively), and after the 30th minute (1.3 times, 2.1 times, 1.9 times and 2.1 times, respectively).Conclusion. The administration of creatine phosphate into the coronary flow 5 minutes before the onset of ischemia has a protective effect on myocardial contractility. Reduction of oxidative stress and damage can be considered as a protective effect of creatine phosphate.

Abstract

In the course of studies on tranquilizers, new non-benzodiazepine-like compounds were synthesized. These are 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenoxy)-3-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazinyl]prop an-2-ol (INN: enciprazine) and derivatives thereof which were screened pharmacologically in order to evaluate their central nervous system activity. Compounds with marked antiaggressive and anxiolytic properties but without dependence potential could be detected. Enciprazine was selected for clinical investigations.

Abstract

Radioactivation analysis is the only method which allows the determination of individual rare earth element impurities in rare earth elements of high purity. The determination of dysprosium, europium, samarium and gadolinium in yttrium oxide is complicated by the short half-life of165Dy (138 min.) and by the difficulty of separating traces of these elements from the matrix. A chromatographic method has been developed, for the separation of traces of Dy, Eu, Sm and Gd from ytrium, on a column packed with anion exchangerAV-17, by means of elution with 0.1N and 0.3M solutions of EDTA-sodium salt, followed by the separation of the mixture of the rare earth impurities on a microcolumn of cation exchangerKU-2, using a 0.17M solution of ammonium α-hydroxyisobutyrate as the eluent. The sensitivity of the determination of Dy, in the case of irradiating 10 mg of Y2O3 with a flux of 1.2·1013 n·cm−2·sec−1 for 5 min. was 1·10−7%; the corresponding values for Sm, Eu and Gd, when irradiating a 100 mg sample of Y2O3 for 20 hours with the same flux, were 2·10−7%, 1·10−8% and 5·10−6%, respectively.

The analgesic potency of ethyl-N-[2-amino-6-(4-fluorophenylmethylamino)pyridin-3-yl]carb ama te (flupirtine, D 9998) in mice and rats in Haffner's test, electro-pain test and Randall-Selitto test (inflammation induced pain) lies between the more potent dextromoramide and methadone and the more weakly active pethidine, dextropropoxyphene, codeine, phenacetin and paracetamol. In comparison to codeine flupirtine is up to 4 times more potent, up to 2 times more active than pethidine and 4 times more potent than dextropropoxyphene in the above-mentioned methods. With one exception of inflammation induced pain, where flupirtine shows an activity of about 1 1/2 times that of phenacetin and paracetamol, both analgesics are about 10 to nearly 30 times less active than flupirtine in other above-mentioned tests. In the hot plate test flupirtine is twice as active as codeine and approximately 10 times more active than phenacetin and paracetamol. The weakest analgesic activity of flupirtine is seen in acetic acid test where it is about half as active as codein and approximately as active as dextropropoxyphene. Nevertheless, flupirtine is up to 10 times more potent than phenacetin and paracetamol. The acetic acid test is claimed to be non-specific according to our own experience and to other authors. Flupirtine is enterally absorbed at a higher degree than the other tested centrally acting analgesics. In regard to the results of various analgesic investigations in mice and rats flupirtine can be classified as a medium to strong acting analgesic. The duration of action of flupirtine is comparable to that of codeine. Experiments with flupirtine suggest that there are some convincing criteria for a pronounced central acting component of its analgesic activity. These criteria are the strong efficacy in the hot-plate and Haffner's test, in which only centrally acting analgesics show distinct effects, and the finding that flupirtine increases the pain threshold for vocalisation in rats and mice excluding a pure reflex of the spinal cord. In current experiments concerning the mode of action flupirtine exhibits a distinct central analgesic component of action. In spite of its relatively high analgesic potency which corresponds to that of opiates flupirtine does not show any other signs of opiate properties and other potent analgesics. Abstract

In the present study the general pharmacological properties of ethyl-N-[2-amino-6-(4-fluor-phenylmethylamino)pyridin-3-yl]carbama te (flupirtine, D 9998), a structural new analgesic, are described. In several tests with mice flupirtine shows a centrally depressant component of action. However, regarding undesirable side effects as ataxia, inhibition of motor activity etc. this action is, with respect to the analgesic effective doses less pronounced than those of comparable analgesics, for instance phenacetin. In relatively low doses flupirtine antagonizes tremor induced by oxotremorine in mice. This activity is probably not caused by a central anticholinergic action, because other anticholinergic effects have not been observed. It should be pointed out that flupirtine antagonizes the morphine-induced tail phenomenon in mice in relatively low doses. This action obviously differentiates flupirtine from opiates. Up to high doses flupirtine does not cause catalepsia in mice, consequently its centrally depressant activity does not resemble that of reserpine and also is not comparable with those of neuroleptic agents. The corneal and pinnal reflexes are not influenced by flupirtine and the righting reflex is slightly delayed in high doses. The anticonvulsive activity of flupirtine observed in the pentetrazol shock test (mouse) after high doses probably cannot be considered to occur within the analgesic dose range. Inhibition of amphetamine toxicity in mice observed in doses near the hypnotic doses may be caused by non-specific effects. In vitro tests with isolated trachea or ileum of guinea pigs show that flupirtine possesses no or very weak antagonism against histamine-induced spasms. In spasms caused by barium chloride flupirtine shows a weak musculotropic-spasmolytic activity. Investigations on the circulatory system of dogs do not indicate any incompatibilities with flupirtine. No evidence of antiarrhythmic activity was found in rats. Flupirtine has no local anesthetic activity in mice but some weak effects on the cornea of rabbits. Like several other analgesics flupirtine shows in rats a reversible antidiuretic action including sodium and chloride retention which is of relatively short duration and is not observed in long-term studies in rats and dogs. In contrast to many stronger antiinflammatory compounds, flupirtine does not possess ulcerogenic activity in rats up to high doses. A minimal inhibition of intestinal motility (mouse) is observed only in doses higher than the analgesic effective doses.

To answer the questions of mode and site of action partly supplementary, partly new investigations with flupirtine (Katadolon) were carried out which are described below. The investigation for opiate receptor affinity of flupirtine in rat brain homogenate did not show any reduction in 3He-etorphine binding up to the highest concentration of flupirtine of 10(-5) mol/1. This result suggests that flupirtine either has a very low opiate receptor affinity or lacks it fully. Therefore the analgesic activity of flupirtine is not based on opiate mechanism. The intracerebroventricular and intrathecal administration of flupirtine and the other analgesics tested showed dose dependent analgesic activity in doses which, when applied systemically, did not cause any analgesia in rats. Thus these substances show cerebral or spinal analgesic activity. In relation to the effective doses (ED50 in micrograms/rat) flupirtine was of the same efficacy in both kinds of administration. Pethidine tested comparatively was found to be less potent by intrathecal than by intracerebroventricular application. On the other hand, morphine was weaker by intracerebroventricular than by intrathecal application. As in the experiments by oral administration, naloxone did not show any effect on the analgesic activity of flupirtine, neither by intracerebroventricular nor by intrathecal application. On the other hand, the analgesic effects of pethidine and morphine were completely suppressed by naloxone. 3 beta,5,14-Trihydroxy-19-oxo-5 beta-bufa-20,22-dienolide 3-(3-methylcrotonate) (acrihellin, D 12 316) is according to chemical structure and pharmacological effects a semisynthetic compound of the aglycon hellebrigenin. It is characterized as a cardiosteroid. In isolated organ (Langendorff heart) the positive inotropic effect proved to be stronger in comparison to digoxin. Also in dogs and cats acrihellin increases the contractile force of the myocardium; especially in failing canine heart, it increases the force of contraction (strain-gauge) and velocity of pressure rise (dp/dt max). In classical glycoside test on cat (Hatcher's dose) acrihellin is more effective than digoxin and methyldigoxin on weight basis, equivalent on a molar basis. The therapeutical index of acrihellin is like that of methyldigoxin. In cats and dogs, the compound is absorbed rapidly and almost completely, especially when administered intraduodenally. Herein it is comparable to methyldigoxin, better than digoxin. In cats acrihellin shows a decay rate of 26%. In all investigations performed in order to study central nervous effects after single administration of therapeutical doses no central side-effects could be detected in contrast to methyldigoxin.

Abstract

In the course of studies on tranquilizers, new non-benzodiazepine-like compounds were synthesized. These are 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenoxy)-3-[4-(2-methoxyphenyl)piperazinyl]prop an-2-ol (INN: enciprazine) and derivatives thereof which were screened pharmacologically in order to evaluate their central nervous system activity. Compounds with marked antiaggressive and anxiolytic properties but without dependence potential could be detected. Enciprazine was selected for clinical investigations.

Abstract

The influence of the skeletal muscle tone by flupirtine (D-9998, Katadolon; CAS 56995-20-1), some selected analgesics and muscle relaxants was investigated in conscious rats after intraperitoneal administration. Benzodiazepines (diazepam and tetrazepam), baclofen, dantrolene and mephenesine reduced the tone of the skeletal muscle. Opiate analgesics, such as morphine, codeine and tramadol, enhanced the muscle tone. Flupirtine reduced the skeletal muscle tone at doses comparable with its antinociceptive effective doses. In this dose range no sedative side effects as ataxia or decrease of spontaneous motor activity could be observed. The mode of this muscle relaxing effect of flupirtine is not known in all details. It is, however, likely that flupirtine is able to inhibit the mono- and/or polysynaptic reflexes at the spinal level.
