1. Elastic Extension of a CMS Computing Centre Resources on External Clouds

Abstract: After the successful LHC data taking in Run-I and in view of the future runs, the LHC experiments are facing new challenges in the design and operation of the computing facilities. The computing infrastructure for Run-II is dimensioned to cope at most with the average amount of data recorded. The usage peaks, as already observed in Run-I, may however originate large backlogs, thus delaying the completion of the data reconstruction and ultimately the data availability for physics analysis. In order to cope with the production peaks, CMS - along the lines followed by other LHC experiments - is exploring the opportunity to access Cloud resources provided by external partners or commercial providers. Specific use cases have already been explored and successfully exploited during Long Shutdown 1 (LS1) and the first part of Run 2. In this work we present the proof of concept of the elastic extension of a CMS site, specifically the Bologna Tier-3, on an external OpenStack infrastructure. We focus on the "Cloud Bursting" of a CMS Grid site using a newly designed LSF configuration that allows the dynamic registration of new worker nodes to LSF. In this approach, the dynamically added worker nodes instantiated on the OpenStack infrastructure are transparently accessed by the LHC Grid tools and at the same time they serve as an extension of the farm for the local usage. The amount of resources allocated thus can be elastically modeled to cope up with the needs of CMS experiment and local users. Moreover, a direct access/integration of OpenStack resources to the CMS workload management system is explored. In this paper we present this approach, we report on the performances of the on-demand allocated resources, and we discuss the lessons learned and the next steps.

Abstract: In order to ensure interoperability between middleware and authorization infrastructures used in the Open Science Grid (OSG) and the Enabling Grids for E-science (EGEE) projects, an Authorization Interoperability activity was initiated in 2006. The interoperability goal was met in two phases: firstly, agreeing on a common authorization query interface and protocol with an associated profile that ensures standardized use of attributes and obligations; and secondly implementing, testing, and deploying on OSG and EGEE, middleware that supports the interoperability protocol and profile. The activity has involved people from OSG, EGEE, the Globus Toolkit project, and the Condor project. This paper presents a summary of the agreed-upon protocol, profile and the software components involved.

Abstract: The SuperB asymmetric-energy e+e collider and detector to be built at the newly founded Nicola Cabibbo Lab will provide a uniquely sensitive probe of New Physics in the flavour sector of the Standard Model. Studying minute effects in the heavy quark and heavy lepton sectors requires a data sample of 75ab^-1 and a luminosity target of 10^36 cm^-2 s^-1. These parameters require a substantial growth in computing requirements and performances. The SuperB collaboration is thus investigating the advantages of new CPU architectures (multi and many cores) and how to exploit their capability of task parallelization in the framework for simulation and analysis software. In this work we present the underlying architecture which we intend to use and some preliminary performance results of the first framework prototype.

Abstract: Requests for computing resources from LHC experiments are constantly mounting, and so are their peak usage. Since dimensioning a site to handle the peak usage times is impractical due to constraints on resources that many publicly-owned computing centres have, opportunistic usage of resources from external, even commercial, cloud providers is becoming more and more interesting, and is even the subject of upcoming initiative from the EU commission, named HelixNebula. While extra resources are always a good thing, to fully take advantage of them they must be integrated in the site's own infrastructure and made available to users as if they were local resources. At the CNAF INFN Tier-1 we have developed a framework, called dynfarm, capable of taking external resources and, placing minimal and easily satisfied requirements upon them, fully integrate them into a pre-existing infrastructure and treat them as if they were local, fully-owned resources. In this article we for the first time will a give a full, complete description of the framework's architecture along with all of its capabilities, to describe exactly what is possible with it and what are its requirements.

Abstract: The Tier-1 at CNAF is the main INFN computing facility offering computing and storage resources to more than 30 different scientific collaborations including the 4 experiments at the LHC. It is also foreseen a huge increase in computing needs in the following years mainly driven by the experiments at the LHC (especially starting with the run 3 from 2021) but also by other upcoming experiments such as CTA[1] While we are considering the upgrade of the infrastructure of our data center, we are also evaluating the possibility of using CPU resources available in other data centres or even leased from commercial cloud providers. Hence, at INFN Tier-1, besides participating to the EU project HNSciCloud, we have also pledged a small amount of computing resources (~ 2000 cores) located at the Bari ReCaS[2] for the WLCG experiments for 2016 and we are testing the use of resources provided by a commercial cloud provider. While the Bari ReCaS data center is directly connected to the GARR network[3] with the obvious advantage of a low latency and high bandwidth connection, in the case of the commercial provider we rely only on the General Purpose Network. In this paper we describe the set-up phase and the first results of these installations started in the last quarter of 2015, focusing on the issues that we have had to cope with and discussing the measured results in terms of efficiency.

Abstract: The Grid infrastructures, such as the one provided by the European Grid Infrastructure, represent suitable solutions to achieve cost effective computational power. However, these solutions present to Grid users some challenges, i.e. to create a customized computing environment and its management.For this reason a Cloud-like approach is for certain applications more suitable than a pure Grid one.In this paper, we propose an approach based on WNoDeS- the Worker Nodes on Demand Service - to exploit both the computational and storage power of the Grid and the flexibility of the Cloud paradigm. This virtualization framework makes possible, trough a tight integration with Local Resource Management Systems, a dynamic allocation of virtual resources out of a common resource pool. WNoDes has been installed on some INFN Grid sites, allowing selected users to instantiate aset of customized virtual machines on top of the Grid resources. Running the applications on customized machines simplifies the computing model and reduces the failure rates. We show how it is feasible to smoothly perform a real life molecular surfaces analysis use case instantiating resources through WNoDeS.

Abstract: The gLite Workload Management System (WMS) is a collection of components that provide the service responsible for distributing and managing tasks across computing and storage resources available on a Grid. The WMS basically receives requests of job execution from a client, finds the required appropriate resources, then dispatches and follows the jobs until completion, handling failure whenever possible. Other than single batch-like jobs, compound job types handled by the WMS are Directed Acyclic Graphs (a set of jobs where the input/output/execution of one of more jobs may depend on one or more other jobs), Parametric Jobs (multiple jobs with one parametrized description), and Collections (multiple jobs with a common description). Jobs are described via a flexible, high-level Job Definition Language (JDL). New functionality was recently added to the system (use of Service Discovery for obtaining new service endpoints to be contacted, automatic sandbox files archival/compression and sharing, support for bulk-submission and bulk-matchmaking). Intensive testing and troubleshooting allowed to dramatically increase both job submission rate and service stability. Future developments of the gLite WMS will be focused on reducing external software dependency, improving portability, robustness and usability.

Abstract: Efficient and robust system for accessing computational resources and managing job operations is a key component of any Grid framework designed to support large distributed computing environment. Computing Resource Execution and Management (CREAM) is a simple, minimal system designed to provide efficient processing of a large number of requests for computation on managed resources. Requests are accepted from distributed clients via a Web Service based interface. The CREAM architecture is designed to be a robust, scalable and fault tolerant service of a Grid middleware. In this paper we describe the CREAM architecture and the provided functionality. We also discuss how CREAM is integrated within the EGEE gLite middleware in general, and with the gLite Workload Management System in particular.

Abstract: Contemporary Grids are characterized by a middleware that provides the necessary virtualization of computation and data resources for the shared working environment of the Grid. In a large-scale view, different middleware technologies and implementations have to coexist. The SOA approach provides the needed architectural backbone for interoperable environments, where different providers can offer their solutions without restricting users to just one specific implementation. The WMProxy (Workload Manager Proxy) is a new service providing access to the gLite Workload Management System (WMS) functionality through a simple Web Services-based interface. The WMProxy was designed to efficiently handle a large number of requests for job submission and control to the WMS and the service interface addresses the Web Services and SOA architecture standards, in particular adhering to the WS- Interoperability basic profile. In this paper we describe the WMProxy service: from its architecture, independent from the used Web Services container, up to the provided functionality, all together with the rationale behind the decisions made during both the design and implementation phases. In particular, we provide a description of how the WMProxy is integrated with the gLite Workload Management System; the used technologies, focusing on the Web Services features; the mechanisms adopted to improve performances still keeping high reliability and fault-tolerance; the changes in the job submission operation chain with respect to the previous generation of Workload Management Systems and the new operations provided in order to support bulk- submission and improve Client-Server interaction capabilities.

Abstract: The SuperB asymmetric energy e+e- collider and detector [1] to be built at the newly founded Nicola Cabibbo Lab [2] will provide a uniquely sensitive probe of New Physics in the flavor sector of the Standard Model. Studying minute effects in the heavy quark and heavy lepton sectors requires a data sample of 75 ab-1 and a peak luminosity of 1036 cm-2s-1. These parameters require a substantial growth in computing requirements and performances: we roughly estimate that in few years of operations we will have to cope with near half EB of raw data and that the CPU required for processing will be close to 6000 KHep-Spec06 per year. The SuperB collaboration is thus investigating the advantages of new CPU architectures (multi and many cores, now largely available on the market), with the aim to be able to treat this amount of data both efficiently and within reasonable amounts of time. At the same time the collaboration is analyzing the current software, in large part inherited from previous experiments (mainly BaBar), to understand the underlying parallelism level, how to exploit it and to find the better mapping to emergent hardware architectures. In this work we first present the measurements done on the analysis and simulation software, then the Framework architecture we are designing. We complete the presentation with a description of our Framework prototype and some preliminary performance measurements.

Abstract: The SuperB asymmetric e+e- collider and detector to be built at the newly founded Nicola Cabibbo Lab will provide a uniquely sensitive probe of New Physics in the flavor sector of the Standard Model. Studying minute effects in the heavy quark and heavy lepton sectors requires a data sample of 75ab-1 and a peak luminosity of 1036cm-2s-1. Providing a user-friendly solution to workload management in a distributed resource system is one of the key goal of a HEP community as SuperB experiment. Physicists involved in Monte Carlo simulation productions and in data analysis should be able to perform job management and basic data transfer operations limiting as possible training costs and maximizing flexibility in resource exploitation. The SuperB computing group adopted Ganga as the interface layer of such distributed analysis infrastructure. A SuperB-specific Ganga-plugin has been developed to accomplish experiment requirements as information system interface, use cases implementation, dataset management and job wrapper interactions. This work will present the Ganga plugin design and implementation, and its integration with the wider distributed system adopted by the collaboration.

The SuperB Computing group is working on developing a production system for distributed event simulation capable to support the detector design definition and its performance evaluation studies. During last year the system has evolved from the point of view of job workflow, Grid services, and technologies adoption. A complete code refactoring and sub-component language porting now allows to sustain large distributed production cycles involving resources from three continents and Grid Flavors. In this paper we present a complete description of the production system, its evolution and its integration with Grid services; in particular, we will focus on the utilization of new Grid component features as in LB and WMS version 3.

It provides access to distributed resources in order to support both the detector design definition and its performance evaluation studies. During last year the framework has evolved from the point of view of job work ow, Grid services interfaces and technologies adoption. A complete code refactoring and sub-component language porting now permits the framework to sustain distributed production involving resources from two continents and Grid Flavors. In this paper we will report a complete description of the production system status of the art, its evolution and its integration with Grid services; in particular, we will focus on the utilization of new Grid component features as in LB and WMS version 3. Results from the last official SuperB production cycle will be reported.

Abstract: The WLCG community and many groups in the HEP community have based their computing strategy on the Grid paradigm, which proved successful and still ensures its goals. However, Grid technology has not spread much over other communities; in the commercial world, the cloud paradigm is the emerging way to provide computing services. WLCG experiments aim to achieve integration of their existing current computing model with cloud deployments and take advantage of the so-called opportunistic resources (including HPC facilities) which are usually not Grid compliant. One missing feature in the most common cloud frameworks, is the concept of job scheduler, which plays a key role in a traditional computing centre, by enabling a fairshare based access at the resources to the experiments in a scenario where demand greatly outstrips availability. At CNAF we are investigating the possibility to access the Tier-1 computing resources as an OpenStack based cloud service. The system, exploiting the dynamic partitioning mechanism already being used to enable Multicore computing, allowed us to avoid a static splitting of the computing resources in the Tier-1 farm, while permitting a share friendly approach. The hosts in a dynamically partitioned farm may be moved to or from the partition, according to suitable policies for request and release of computing resources. Nodes being requested in the partition switch their role and become available to play a different one. In the cloud use case hosts may switch from acting as Worker Node in the Batch system farm to cloud compute node member, made available to tenants. In this paper we describe the dynamic partitioning concept, its implementation and integration with our current batch system, LSF.

Abstract: A key feature of grid environment is the sharing of computing and storage: users operate on resources not directly owned by them. Often users working on the same research project are grouped in a virtual organization (VO) to use a common authorization policy on this resources. Many international experiments, however, use different Grid middleware platforms with their own authorization framework. This leads to interoperability problems for scientists of the same experiment, using their national Grid infrastructure. Usually VOs and resource providers share contracts to regulate resource usage. The enforcement of such arrangements needs an agreed interoperable authorization mechanism based on policies that can be written by VOs and resources providers. This process can be applied using a flexible and distributed policy framework, where complex relationships can be enforced being able to manage both policies created by VOs and policies created by Grid sites. G-PBox policy framework, in conjunction with VOMS Attribute Authority, is our proposal to represent, manage and distribute such policies in a transparent way. G-PBox approach is based on a set of XACML policies databases belonging separately to VOs and resource providers, each containing at least policies regarding it own organization. In this paper we describe how VO oriented tools like VOMS and G-PBox can be deployed across different VOs and resource providers. It will show how VO managers and sites administrators can set up agreed policies for resource sharing optimization and experiment computing prioritization, making best use of their time and resources. It will underline also that adoption of assertion and policy Grid standard, as SAML and XACML, provides an effective advantage in order to allow an accepted authentication and authorization interoperability among services of different Grid domains based on different mechanisms.

Abstract: One of the most important challenges in production grids is to achieve interoperation across several heterogeneous grid middleware platforms: escience applications need a coordinated resource sharing among dynamic collections of individuals/institutions, independently from whatever middleware the resources are running. For this reason, there is a great effort going on to define standard interfaces, in order to implement common services that can be used to achieve cross-middlewares interoperability. In this paper, we present our modifications to the virtual organization management service (VOMS), a widely-known and used tool that acts as an attribute authority. We enhanced VOMS to expose the standardized interface of the Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML), and therefore to release SAML assertions. This way we want VOMS to be available on the larger possible number of grid middleware platforms.

Studying minute effects in the heavy quark and heavy lepton sectors requires a data sample of 75 ab(-1) and a luminosity target of 10(36) cm(-2) s(-1). This luminosity translate in the requirement of storing more than 50 PByte of additional data each year, making SuperB an interesting challenge to the data management infrastructure, both at site level as at Wide Area Network level. A new Tier1, distributed among 3 or 4 sites in the south of Italy, is planned as part of the SuperB computing infrastructure. Data storage is a relevant topic whose development affects the way to configure and setup storage infrastructure both in local computing cluster and in a distributed paradigm. In this work we report the test on the software for data distribution and data replica focusing on the experiences made with Hadoop and GlusterFS.

Abstract: This paper discusses how the Virtual Organisation (VO) concept can be used for managing dynamic security associations in collaborative Grid applications and for complex resource provisioning. The paper contains both research part and discusses further development of the popular VO management software the VO Membership Service (VOMS). The paper provides an overview of current practices in VO management in major Grid projects including operational procedures and the supporting security middleware. The paper identifies open issues and basic requirements to the VO security functionality and services and suggests possible directions of further research and development. The proposed conceptual VO model and VO management framework provide a basis for consistent VO services definition and development to support different VO operational models. The paper intends to provide a framework for common understanding of the VO concept among Grid community and collaborative community and industry. The paper is based on experiences gained from the major Grid based and Grid oriented projects in collaborative applications and complex resource provisioning.

Abstract: Applications from High Energy Physics scientific community are constantly growing and implemented by a large number of developers. This implies a strong churn on the code and an associated risk of faults, which is unavoidable as long as the software undergoes active evolution. However, the necessities of production systems run counter to this. Stability and predictability are of paramount importance; in addition, a short turn-around time for the defect discovery-correction-deployment cycle is required. A way to reconcile these opposite foci is to use a software quality model to obtain an approximation of the risk before releasing a program to only deliver software with a risk lower than an agreed threshold. In this article we evaluated two quality predictive models to identify the operational risk and the quality of some software products. We applied these models to the development history of several EMI packages with intent to discover the risk factor of each product and compare it with its real history. We attempted to determine if the models reasonably maps reality for the applications under evaluation, and finally we concluded suggesting directions for further studies.

Abstract: The Grid community uses two well-established registration services, which allow users to be authenticated under the auspices of Virtual Organizations (VOs). The Virtual Organization Membership Service (VOMS), developed in the context of the Enabling Grid for E-sciencE (EGEE) project, is an Attribute Authority service that issues attributes expressing membership information of a subject within a VO. VOMS allows to partition users in groups, assign them roles and free-form attributes which are then used to drive authorization decisions. The VOMS administrative application, VOMS-Admin, manages and populates the VOMS database with membership information. The Virtual Organization Management Registration Service (VOMRS), developed at Fermilab, extends the basic registration and management functionalities present in VOMS-Admin. It implements a registration workflow that requires VO usage policy acceptance and membership approval by administrators. VOMRS supports management of multiple grid certificates, and handling users' request for group and role assignments, and membership status. VOMRS is capable of interfacing to local systems with personnel information (e.g. the CERN Human Resource Database) and of pulling relevant member information from them. VOMRS synchronizes the relevant subset of information with VOMS. The recent development of new features in VOMS-Admin raises the possibility of rationalizing the support and converging on a single solution by continuing and extending existing collaborations between EGEE and OSG. Such strategy is supported by WLCG, OSG, US CMS, US Atlas, and other stakeholders worldwide. In this paper, we will analyze features in use by major experiments and the use cases for registration addressed by the mature single solution.

Abstract: The Open Science Grid (OSG) and the Enabling Grids for E-sciencE (EGEE) have a common security model, based on Public Key Infrastructure. Grid resources grant access to users because of their membership in a Virtual Organization (VO), rather than on personal identity. Users push VO membership information to resources in the form of identity attributes, thus declaring that resources will be consumed on behalf of a specific group inside the organizational structure of the VO. Resources contact an access policies repository, centralized at each site, to grant the appropriate privileges for that VO group. Before the work in this paper, despite the commonality of the model, OSG and EGEE used different protocols for the communication between resources and the policy repositories. Hence, middleware developed for one Grid could not naturally be deployed on the other Grid, since the authorization module of the middleware would have to be enhanced to support the other Grid's communication protocol. In addition, maintenance and support for different authorization call-out protocols represents a duplication of effort for our relatively small community. To address these issues, OSG and EGEE initiated a joint project on authorization interoperability. The project defined a common communication protocol and attribute identity profile for authorization call-out and provided implementation and integration with major Grid middleware. The activity had resonance with middleware development communities, such as the Globus Toolkit and Condor, who decided to join the collaboration and contribute requirements and software. In this paper, we discuss the main elements of the profile, its implementation, and deployment in EGEE and OSG. We focus in particular on the operations of the authorization infrastructures of both Grids.

30. Enabling a priority-based fair share in the EGEE infrastructure

Abstract: While starting to use the Grid in production, applications have begun to request the implementation of complex policies regarding the use of resources. Some Virtual Organizations (VOs) want to divide their users in different priority brackets and classify the resources in different classes, others instead do not need advanced setups and are satisfied in considering all users and resources equal. Resource managers have to work for enabling these requirements on their site, in addition to the work necessary to implement policies regarding the use of their resources, to ensure compliance with Acceptable Use Policies. These requirements end up prescribing the existence of a security framework not only capable to satisfy them, but that must also be scalable and flexible enough in order to do not need continuous and unnecessary low-level tweaking of the configuration setup every time the requirements change. Any security framework implementing these priorities should not require constant tweaking by site administrators. Here we will describe in detail the layout used in several Italian sites of the EGEE (Enabling Grid for E-sciencE) infrastructure to deal with these requirements, along with a complete rationale of our choices, with the intent of clarifying what issues an administrator may run into when dealing with priority requirements, and what common pitfalls should be avoided at any cost. Beyond the feedback on interfaces for policy management, from VO and site administrators, we will especially report on the aspects coming from the mapping of Grid level policies to local computing resource authorization mechanisms at Grid sites and how they interfere from a management and security point of view.

Abstract: The Computing facility CNAF, in Bologna (Italy), is the biggest WLCG Computing Center in Italy, and serves all WLCG Experiments plus more than 20 non-WLCG Virtual Organizations and currently deploys more than 200 kHS06 of Computing Power and more than 20 PB of Disk and 40 PB of tape via a GPFS SAN. The Center has started a program to evaluate the possibility to extend its resources on external entities, either commercial or opportunistic or simply remote, in order to be prepared for future upgrades or temporary burst in the activity from experiments. The approach followed is meant to be completely transparent to users, with additional external resources directly added to the CNAF LSF batch system; several variants are possible, like the use of VPN tunnels in order to establish LSF communications between hosts, a multi-master LSF approach, or in the longer term the use of HTCondor. Concerning the storage, the simplest approach is to use Xrootd fallback to CNAF storage, unfortunately viable only for some experiments; a more transparent approach involves the use of GPFS/AFM module in order to cache files directly on the remote facilities. In this paper we focus on the technical aspects of the integration, and assess the difficulties using different remote virtualisation technologies, as made available at different sites. A set of benchmarks is provided in order to allow for an evaluation of the solution for CPU and Data intensive workflows. The evaluation of Aruba as a resource provider for CNAF is under test, with limited available resources; a ramp up to a larger scale is being discussed. On a parallel path, this paper shows a similar attempt of extension using proprietary resources, at ReCaS-Bari; the chosen solution is simpler in the setup, but shares many commonalities.

Abstract: The development of a computing model for the next generation of Super Flavour Factories, like SuperB and SuperKEKB, presents significant challenges. With a nominal luminosity above 10^36 cm^-2 s^-1, we estimate that, after few years of operation, the size of the data sample will be of the order of 500 PB and the amount of CPU required to process it will be close to 5000 KHep-Spec06. The new many and multi core technologies need to be effectively exploited in order to manage very large data set and this has a potential large impact on the computing model for SuperB. In addition, the computing resources available to SuperB, as is already the case for LHC experiments, will be distributed and accessed through a Grid or a cloud infrastructure and a suite of efficient and reliable tools needs to be provided to the users. A dedicated research program to explore these issues is in progress and it is presented here.

Abstract: LHC experiments are now in Run-II data taking and approaching new challenges in the operation of the computing facilities in future Runs. Despite having demonstrated to be able to sustain operations at scale during Run-I, it has become evident that the computing infrastructure for RunII already is dimensioned to cope at most with the average amount of data recorded, and not for peak usage. The latter are frequent and may create large backlogs and have a direct impact on data reconstruction completion times, hence to data availability for physics analysis. Among others, the CMS experiment is exploring (since the first Long Shutdown period after Run-I) the access and utilisation of Cloud resources provided by external partners or commercial providers. In this work we present proof of concepts of the elastic extension of a CMS Tier-3 site in Bologna (Italy), on an external OpenStack infrastructure. We start from presenting the experience on a first work on the “Cloud Bursting” of a CMS Grid site using a novel LSF configuration to dynamically register new worker nodes. Then, we move to an even more recent work on a “Cloud Site as-aService” prototype, based on a more direct access/integration of OpenStack resources into the CMS workload management system. Results with real CMS workflows and future plans are also presented and discussed.

Abstract: In this Technical Design Report (TDR) we describe the SuperB detector that was to be installed on the SuperB e+e- high luminosity collider. The SuperB asymmetric collider, which was to be constructed on the Tor Vergata campus near the INFN Frascati National Laboratory, was designed to operate both at the Upsilon(4S) center-of-mass energy with a luminosity of 10^{36} cm^{-2}s^{-1} and at the tau/charm production threshold with a luminosity of 10^{35} cm^{-2}s^{-1}. This high luminosity, producing a data sample about a factor 100 larger than present B Factories, would allow investigation of new physics effects in rare decays, CP Violation and Lepton Flavour Violation. This document details the detector design presented in the Conceptual Design Report (CDR) in 2007. The R&D and engineering studies performed to arrive at the full detector design are described, and an updated cost estimate is presented. A combination of a more realistic cost estimates and the unavailability of funds due of the global economic climate led to a formal cancelation of the project on Nov 27, 2012.

Abstract: The production and analysis frameworks for LHC experiments are demanding advanced features in the middleware functionality and a complete integration with the experiment specific software environment. They also require an effective and distributed test platform where the integrated middleware functionality is verified and certified. The deployment in a production infrastructure of such solutions imposes as well measured performance, documentation and support for correct configuration and operation. In this paper we describe the solutions, tests and results achieved in collaboration with ALICE, ATLAS, CDF, CMS and LHCb experiments to fulfill their production and analysis requirements. The middleware components considered have been the workload management system with the additional bulk submission feature, the replica catalog interface, the Virtual Organization Management System (VOMS) role definition and its integration with the policy system, job and application monitoring.
