Forsberg and Leino (2019 J. Phys. G: Nucl Part Phys 46 018001) question the validity of criticism (2017 J. Phys. G: Nucl. Part. Phys. 44 075107) of the method proposed by Forsberg et al (2016 Nucl. Phys. A 953 117). In this reply, we show that this method is based on unclear principles and its implementation leads to the results that contradict the conclusions following from mathematical statistics.

An algorithm has been proposed to build an estimate of the half-life of a “daughter” nucleus in case, when it is unknown, which nucleus is its “mother” (“indefinite start time”). For a decay of the “mother” at an instant t we can determine P—a probability of such a decay, if we assume that each “mother”, which has been decayed before t has equal chances to be “mother” of this “daughter”: $$ \sum\limits_{i = 1}^{n_t } {exp\left( { - \frac{{t - t_i }} {\tau }} \right)} , $$ where τ is the life-time of the “daughter” and nt is their total number; ti ist the instant of the “mother” decay, such that ti ⩽ t.

A user interface that provides the means for scheduling an experiment and controlling its performance is described. The current state of a spectrometer, the programs, and the experimental results can now be presented on the Internet as dynamically formed protocols and graphs. After giving a password, an experiment may be controlled via the Internet. The client can use the Internet without the need for any applied programs. The software package is designed for experiments in the field of condensed matter and nuclear physics and is ready for immediate use.

The electrical properties of AgGeSbS3xSe3(1-x) (x = 0.4-0.7) were investigated by means of impedance measurements in the frequency range between 10 Hz and 800 kHz and at temperatures between 78 K and 500 K. In all investigated chalcogenides ionic conductivity (Ag+) was found. The onset of ionic transport was found at 250 K-300 K, depending on the composition. Experiments in both high-and low-energy physics are planned so that physically interesting effects mathematically are rare (or small probability) events, compared to others, whose probabilities are not small. Correspondingly, the purpose of the paper was the development of the formalism for the treatment of rare events, which could be an inevitable alternative to methods requiring too much a priori information about the studied effect, in a situation when such information is absent, but, instead, background information is available, e.g., from calibration measurements. The main topics of the paper were as follows: (1) To what extent are the methods of Poisson time-event streams suitable for the goal declared? (2) What information can be extracted from the calibration measurement that detected zero interesting events? The method described is illustrated by the analysis of data registered in the experiment on the synthesis of element 114.

The temperature dependences of electrical conductivity and dielectric permittivity of (AS) 1− x (AgSbS 2 ) x , (A=Ge, Sn, Pb) were investigated by means of impedance measurements in the frequency range between 10 −2 and 10 5 Hz and at temperatures between 78 and 500 K. We developed a new method for measuring γ-ray energies in the internal calibration of a radioactive source under investigation. The measurements were carried out with the spectrometer of delayed coincidences and an optical delay line. This method allows the energies of the reference peak and the γ-ray peak under investigation to be compared, even if they are close or coincide. The possibility of precise γ-ray energy measurements is illustrated with60Co and154Eu isotopes.

Formally, Fourier synthesis is performed by visual analysis of two-dimensional Fourier maps. The advantage of this is the use of the analyst's experience and intuition, but this procedure is rather tiresome and time consuming. More attractive is the idea of an automatic analysis of three-dimensional Fourier maps, as these maps provide the fastest access to the physical information. An automatic procedure for finding peaks (positions of atoms in a crystal) of a three-dimensional function F(x,y, z), which is the inverse Fourier transform of the experimental structure factors, is a very convenient, and in computer-based crystallographic data analysis, a quite indispensable tool. This paper describes a method for three-dimensional peak search. Also, interpretation of the practical aspects of Fourier synthesis in terms of discrete Fourier transform is given, which is more appropriate than the continuous approach.

Cardiovascular pathology (CVP) is the main cause of death in patients with end-stage chronic renal failure (ESCRF) and recipients of renal allotransplants (RAT). Combined CVP is found in many patients with ESCRF. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of pre-existing combined CVP on the length of life of recipients during the functioning of RAT. The results of renal allotransplantation were analyzed in 142 RAT recipients. Statistic processing was performed using tabulation, construction of survival curves, and Kaplan-Meier estimates. The study established the prognostic value of a combination of several CVP in one patient. The total severity of the prognosis for patients and RATs differs depending on the number of concomitant cardiovascular diseases. The presence of three or more CVPs before performing renal allotransplantation is a predictor of lower survivability. The length of RAT functioning is significantly shorter in patients with two or more CVPs before renal allotransplantation. The presence of combined CVP should be taken into account when selecting and preparing patients with ESCRF for renal allotransplantation.

The application of a time-of-flight neutron diffractometer for crystallographic investigations, designed on the basis of a pulsed neutron source, is discussed. The procedure for obtaining integrated intensities and introducing corrections is described. The results of a test experiment with perdeuteronaphthalene are given. The deuterium atom positions in the structure of La2Mg 3(NO3)12.24D20 are also refined and compared with those obtained using X-ray diffraction techniques. The observed systematic differences in bond lengths and valence angles are explained by the differences between the 'X-ray' and 'neutron' coordinates of the light atoms.

Administration of a thrombolytic drug of the type of streptokinase (celiase) in a dose of 250,000-1500,000 units for 40-90 minutes to the site of a thrombus with the use in necessary cases of plasminogen donors makes it possible to attain the recovery of the function of arteriovenous fistula if the treatment is carried out within the first 6-8 hours since the moment of its thrombosis. Fistula rethrombosis is the main problem that confronts one in the immediate period after successful conduction of thrombolytic therapy.
