Integrated geological and mineralogical–geochemical study of the ores of the Sredne-Golgotay gold–bismuth deposit using high-precision analytical techniques allowed new data reflecting the typical features and nature of the Au–Bi–Te mineralization. The ores of the Sredne-Golgotay deposit were formed at different stages of gold-forming process and comprise widespread minerals of the Bi–Te–S and Pb–Bi–Sb–S systems, which are closely associated with native gold and represent typomorphic indicators of the conditions of gold mineralization formation.

The new data for the segregations, paragenetic assemblage, and composition of bismuthian jamesonite from gold–quartz mineralization at the Sredny Golgotai deposit located in the eastern part of the Mongolia–Okhotsk orogenic belt are reported. This mineral occurs as two varieties (I, II), which are slightly different in composition and chemically close to bismuthian jamesonite (“sakharovaite”) described from the Ustarasai deposit. In contrast to variety II, variety I is Cu- and Fe-free. The electron microprobe study has revealed that varieties I and II are close to jamesonite and tintinaite, respectively. The data obtained make it possible to conclude that individual sulfosalt species of the proper tintinaite and jamesonite series, which are close in composition, are probable members of the tintinaite–kobellite series. It is assumed that the Cu- and Fe-free variety of bismuthian jamesonite close in composition to “sakharovaite” is an individual mineral species.

Mechanical properties of low-k dielectrics deposited on a surface with patterned metal (Cu) lines are evaluated by using atomic force microscopy (AFM) in the PeakForce quantitative mapping (PFQNM) mode. It is shown that Young’s modulus (YM) of completely cured low-k films depends on the position in the structure. The Young’s modulus decreases with reduction of intermetal gap, and it is related to the reduced efficiency of curing. Significant reduction of YM is observed in the areas close to interface between the metal and low-k. The possible reason is bad adhesion between the low-k film and barrier layers and the reduction of effective network connectivity of silicon atoms.

The development of highly effective molecular and biological tools to facilitate the penetration of therapeutic nucleic acids into cells opens a direct way to their successful application as drugs. It has been shown that the incorporation of single-stranded antisense oligonucleotides into concatemeric complexes enhances their binding to the membrane structures of eukaryotic cells, and the use of a cholesterol residue attached to one of the oligonucleotide strands considerably improves the delivery of concatemeric complexes of oligonucleotides to their intracellular target. In the present work, the efficiency of the formation of concatemeric structures from oligonucleotides carrying lipophilic fragments such as lithocholic acid, oleylamide of lithocholic acid, and cholesterol, attached to the 5′-end of the oligonucleotide through oligomethylene linkers of different length has been studied. It has been found that all modified oligonucleotides are capable of effectively “assembling” into concatemeric complexes; however, effective delivery into cells was observed only in the case of concatemeric complexes formed by oligonucleotides carrying a cholesterol residue attached through an aminohexanol linker. It has been shown that antisense oligonucleotides delivered to cells as part of these cholesterol-containing concatemeric complexes effectively inhibit the expression of the target gene.

Composition and genesis of arsenium-antimony sulfosalts of lead from the gold-bearing ores of the Berezitovoe deposit located in the eastern part of Mongol-Okhotsk orogenic belt (Upper Amur Area) were considered. Lead sulfosalts (Cu and Pb) are presented by tsugaruite, dufrenoysite, boulangerite, menehinite, bismuthic menehinite (with Bi up to 11.5 mass%), as well as minerals of jordanite-geocronite and bournonite-seligmannite series. The studies have revealed basic features of the lead sulfosalts relationship with ore and silicate minerals in different mineral association of vain ores and regularities in their composition variations. It was found that the composite arsenium-antimony sulfosalts form quasicontinuous series of solid compounds strongly differing from each other by the rate of semimetals as well as semimetals-Pb ratio in their composition. The suggestion has been made that the main typomorphic features of composition of the arsenium-antimony sulfosalts of lead from ores of the Berezitovoe deposit were determined by the specific processes of partial melting of sulfides under the high temperature metamorphism of primary polymetallic ores.

The article presents new geological, geochronological, mineralogical, geochemical, and isotopic data on the Early Cretaceous granitic rocks of the southern part of the Zhuravlevka Terrane (Sikhote-Alin). It is shown that four intrusive complexes containing significant amounts of granitic rocks were formed almost simultaneously in this area in the Early Cretaceous (about 100 Ma). These magmatic associations differ in rock set, their mineralogical characteristics, and chemical composition, varying from medium-potassium tonalites and granodiorites depleted in incompatible elements to shoshonitic monzonitic rocks enriched in HFSE and REE. The geochemical and isotopic characteristics of the granitic rocks indicate that the source of their melts was dominated by essentially juvenile metabasite crust with a limited contribution of the upper-crustal metasedimentary rocks. The diversity of geochemical types of the granitic rocks is explained by variable metabasite and metapelite contributions to their source, upper crustal contamination during magma ascent, as well as the variable contribution of the mantle source and different mechanisms of mantle–crust interaction.

In this paper, we summarize characteristics of calcic skarn ore deposits in Northeast Asia. The study area includes a wide variety of terranes, which experienced both subduction and collisional granite magmatism, and contains a skarn deposits of various types, mostly of sub-economic. This provides an opportunity to examine the relationships among skarn metal types, host rocks, and plutons, within various tectonic settings. The paper is based on the authors’ observations (at 17 deposits and prospects) as well as on a review of published data on these and other skarn deposits. Major skarn mineralization in Northeast Asia was formed in the Late Mesozoic accretionary and post-accretionary periods. Skarn deposits of Fe, W, Mo, Pb-Zn, and Au (Co) show the same type of skarn mineralogy. The type of host rocks, more rarely granitoid, and the type of mineralization control the composition of garnet and pyroxene, formed in the skarn deposits. Garnet and vesuvianite, associated with tin skarn deposits, have high Sn concentrations. The garnet, associated with skarn deposits in terrigenous terranes, has higher TiO2 concentrations than those in the garnet in skarn deposits from carbonate platform terranes. During skarn deposit formation, the Fe content of the main skarn minerals (garnet and pyroxene) increases. Ore mineralization, which accompanied skarns, exposes isotopic compositions of crustal Pb. Island arc granitoids have primitive 87Sr/86Sr values, while collision granitoids show more elevated crustal 87Sr/86Sr signatures.

The plasma-enhanced atomic layer deposition (PEALD) of a High-K Dielectric and Metal Gate (HkMG) stack for MIS transistors, including the subgate HfO2 (2–4 nm) dielectric layer, the ultrathin metallic stabilizing hafnium nitride HfN (1–3 nm) layer, and the basic metallic gate layer from tantalum nitride ТаN (10–20 nm), on silicon plates with a diameter of 200 mm is studied. The spectral ellipsometry method is applied to measure the homogeneity of the deposited film thickness. The dielectric constant of the dielectric in the stack, the leak current, and the breakdown voltage are examined. The four-probe method is used to study the specific electric resistance of tantalum nitride deposited by the atomic layer deposition ALD method. The film thickness homogeneity as a function of the ALD process parameters is examined. The specific resistance of the metallic TaN layer as a function of the composition and parameters of the plasma discharge are studied.

Comparison of mining algorithms in the problem of detecting malicious network activity based on machine learning models is performed. A structural diagram of a system for analyzing network traffic in an industrial network based on machine learning methods has been developed. On one of the known datasets (CICIDS17), a series of experiments was carried out on preliminary analysis and preprocessing of features, highlighting the most significant features and building final models of classifiers. The f1-measure score for the committee of classifiers on the test sample is 0.967.

The mineral composition and geochemical characteristics of the ores of the Malinovskoe gold-ore deposit are studied by the data from mining works (ditches, cleanings, and boreholes). It is found that the ore–magma system of the deposit was formed in several stages of mineralization characterized by two phases of magmatism differing in age. In terms of the set of features (the geological–structural position of the deposit, as well as the material composition and geochemical characteristics of the ores), the deposit is attributed to the gold–tourmaline type of mineralization associated spatially and genetically with the “raremetal” granitoid magmatism. This type has not previously been found in Primorskii Krai. The studies of the material composition and geochemical characteristics of the ores allow us to ascertain the correlations between the elements along with the reasons of their origination. By analogy with other gold-ore formations of the Russian Far East, the mineralogical and geochemical model of the deposit is developed (Be–Sn–Cr–Ba–Au–Cu–Mo–Pb–V–Ti–Co–W–Ag–Bi–Ni–Mn–Sr–Zn–Sb–As modeling element series of vertical zoning), which enables us to estimate the levels of the erosion section of the ore bodies and to evaluate their prospects. It is found that the most productive associations in the deposit are the gold–bismuth geochemical association (Au–Ag–Bi–Cu–As–Co) and, to a lesser degree, the gold–tungsten association (W–Au–Ag–Cu–Bi–As).

The study of base-metal massive sulfide and tin–sulfide deposits in Siberia and the Russian Far East has revealed that the indium content in ores exceeding the average statistical value at similar deposits worldwide could be economically important. Sphalerite and chalcopyrite and chalcopyrite, bornite, and sphalerite are the major indium carriers in the base-metal massive sulfide and tin–sulfide ores, respectively. In addition, base-metal massive sulfide ores have high Cd, Ag, and Te contents, whereas tin–sulfide ores have elevated Ge, Ga, and Nb contents. This has stimulated the investment attractiveness of these deposits.

The increased demand for indium has made it necessary to revise prospects of In-bearing tin ore deposits in the Russian Far East on the basis of geological data and results of recent analytical methods (X-ray fluorescence with synchrotron radiation, atomic absorption, and ICP-MS). The average In contents in ores of the Tigrinoe and Pravourmiiskoe deposits vary from 55 to 70 ppm, which allows tin ore deposits with Sn‒sulfide mineralization to be considered as quite promising with respect to In production from ores of Russian deposits. By their estimated In reserves, the Tigrinoe and Pravourmiiskoe deposits may be attributed to large ore objects.

New data on the composition of jordanite–geocronite Pb–Sb–As sulfosalts in the vein–disseminated gold ore at the Berezitovoe deposit were provided. Within the studied quartz–sulfide sample, some grains of Pb–Sb–As sulfosalts, uniform in composition and azonal, are drastically different from each other in As and Sb contents forming a quasi-continuous range of solid compounds from jordanite to geocronite. Jordanite–geocronite minerals at the Berezitovoe deposit (relative to the Darasun deposit) are characterized by a higher Pb concentration with a low polymetal total. It is assumed that such typomorphic features of the composition of Pb–Sb–As sulfosalts are indicative of specific formation conditions of gold mineralization in polymetallic ores at the Berezitovoe deposit.

Original data on the ore composition are obtained by studying samples from mining workings. In terms of mineral composition, gold-productive veinlets are subdivided into three types: sulfide–quartz, sulfide–carbonate–quartz, and sulfide. The wall-rock metasomatites and typomorphic features of the minerals are studied and the genetic problems of the ores and deposit are discussed. It is established that the Malinovka deposit is ascribed to the gold–tourmaline type (gold–quartz formation), which is identified for the first time in Primorye. In terms of many parameters, the ores of this type are close to those of the large deposits from the Transbaikalian and Amur regions (Klyuchevsky, Kariy, Kirov, Darasun, and others), which are genetically related to granitoid magmatism.

The results of the study of granitoids from the Kordonnoe scheelite-sulfide skarn deposit in the Malinovka ore field are discussed in this paper. Igneous rocks in the studied area are represented by granites differing in age, which are distinguished in petrography, chemical composition, and thermobarogeochemical characteristics. The genetic relationships of scheelite mineralization to granitoids of the Tatibi Complex are supported by similar REE patterns of granitic rocks and scheelite from ore veinlets and by comparison of thermobarogeochemical characteristics of the ore-bearing solutions and the fluids that accompanied emplacement of granites. Comprehensive investigations have shown that the deposit is multistage and polygenetic. Two stages in the formation of igneous rocks and mineralization are recognized in the evolution of the oremagmatic system.

Ores of the Kordonnoe skarn scheelite-sulfide deposit located in the Malinovsky ore cluster in Primorsky Krai were examined in core samples. The mineralogical study revealed that two types of sulfide ores characterizing the tungsten and tin-polymetallic mineralizations are accompanied by two different sulfosalt associations: Pb-Bi and Ag-Pb-Bi, respectively. Rare minerals (goongarrite, wittite, lillianite, vikingite, and others) are briefly described and their typomorphic features are characterized. The problems of the ore genesis are discussed and the mineralization of the deposit is compared with that of the reference objects of the region.

We present new data on the geologic position, composition, and isotope characteristics of the Early Cretaceous granitoids of the Samarka terrane, Sikhote-Alin’, formed on a transform continental margin. Geological and geochronological data show that these granitoids were generated at two stages of magmatism: in the first half (Hauterivian–Barremian, 130–123 Ma) and second half (Albian–Cenomanian, 110–98 Ma) of the Early Cretaceous. Granitoids of the first stage form an autonomous (free of basic precursors) unimodal melanogranite–granite association and are characterized by normal alkalinity with domination of K over Na, low contents of Ca, and elevated contents of Al2O3. By composition, these are S-granites with a model Nd age of ∼1.3 Ga. Granitoids of the second stage are of more diverse petrogeochemical types. They show wider variations in K/Na and A/CNK, are richer in Ca and, sometimes, Sr, and are poorer in P than the granitoids of the first stage. Their compositions form a continuous trend from S- to I-granites, and their model Nd age is ≤1.2 Ga. Comparison of the petrochemical, trace-element, and isotope characteristics of the Early Cretaceous granitoids and upper-crustal rocks (sandstones and siltstones of the turbidite matrix of a Jurassic accretionary prism and basalts from the inclusions in it) of the Samarka terrane and the coeval garrboids has shown that the potassic S-granitoids formed at the early (Hauterivian–Barremian) stage of magmatism as a result of the anatexis of upper-crustal sedimentary rocks. At the late (Albian–Early Cenomanian) stage, the intrusion of mantle magmas led to a temperature increase in the lower crust, which favored more active anatexis, involvement of high-melting substrates (oceanic basalts) in the granite formation, and interaction of mantle and crustal magmas. This resulted in a great diversity of granitoids (from S- to I-type).

Proteins of the Piwi family and short Piwi-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) ensure the protection of the genome from transposable elements. We have previously shown that nuclear Piwi protein tends to concentrate in the nucleoli of the cells of Drosophila melanogaster ovaries. It could be hypothesized that the function of Piwi in the nucleolus is associated with the repression of R1 and R2 retrotransposons inserted into the rDNA cluster. Here, we show that Piwi participates in recruiting Udd protein to nucleoli. Udd is a component of the conserved Selectivity Factor I-like (SL1-like) complex, which is required for transcription initiation by RNA polymerase I. We found that Udd localization depends on Piwi in germline cells, but not in somatic cells of the ovaries. In contrast, knockdowns of the SL1-like components (Udd or TAF1b) do not disrupt Piwi localization. We also observed that the absence of Udd or TAF1b in germline cells, as well as the impairment of Piwi nuclear localization lead to the accumulation of late stage egg chambers in the ovaries, which could be explained by reduced rRNA transcription. These results allow us to propose for the first time a role for Piwi in the nucleolus that is not directly associated with transposable element repression.

A collection of quartz veinlets with ore mineralization sampled from the dumps of the abandoned pit of the Kirov mine was analyzed with defining the mineral assemblages productive for gold mineralization and determining the composition of the main ore minerals and their typomorphic features, which are used for interpreting the genesis of the mineral associations and the deposit as a whole.

The central part of Sikhote Alin is a domainmarked by wide development of Mesozoic sedimentary–volcanogenic and terrigenous rocks intruded bya system of composition and agevariable intrusions.Two series are definable among them: (1) the earlier(135–125 Ma) Khungari Complex represented bygabbro, pyroxenites, and granites; (2) the later (115–105) Tatibi Complex largely composed of gabbroids,adamelites, and granites [1].These complexes are confined to the CentralSikhote Alin strikeslip fault system, which wasformed in response to the convergence of the AsianContinent and Pacific Plate. The study of the Nb isotopy of rocks of the conti� nental crustal is an effective tool for evaluating the nature of mechanisms of crustforming processes and ages of their manifestation (1). In the first approxima� tion, the Nd model isotope age characterizes the age of formation of the continental crust from the mantle source or, in other words, transformation from oceanic crust to continental. The Nd isotope systematics of sedimentary rocks of upper levels of the continental crust allows us to estimate the average model age and the possible paleogeographic source areas, as well as to determine the lower age limit of sedimentation if there are no paleontological data. Moreover, the use of two� stage Nd model ages of granitoides along with the geochemical and petrological data obtained allow us to obtain data about the deep levels of the continental crust (levels of generation of the granitic melt). In some cases, the combination of these approaches makes it possible to reconstruct the chemical compo� sition and the nature and mechanisms of formation of the continental crust of separate blocks (terranes) and large fold belts (2).

New data on the isotopic age of zircons from metamorphic and igneous rocks are given for the Berezitovoe and Kirovskoe deposits located in the eastern margin of the Selenga-Stanovoi orogenic belt. The zircons were studied with the LA-ICP-MS method in the State Key Laboratory of Continental Dynamics, Northwestern University, Sian, Shansi province, People’s Republic of China. The results allowed us to reveal three age epochs in formation of the eastern part of the Selenga-Stanovoi orogenic belt (1.87 Ga; 380–330 Ma; 138–125 Ma), which have significant importance for understanding of the geological structure of the south-eastern framework of the North Asian craton.

Skarns of the Kordonnoe tungsten deposit located in the Malinovsky ore cluster in Primorsky krai were scrutinized based on the study of core samples. The mineral types of the skarns and the near-skarn rocks have been distinguished and briefly described and their ore specialization has been established. The typomorphic peculiarities of the rock-forming minerals were compared with those of the reference objects of the region. The problems of skarn genesis are discussed.

During the process of spermatogenesis, the proliferation of spermatogonia (stem cell descendants) is replaced by their differentiation in growing spermatocytes responsible for the preparation to meiosis, which is accompanied by a cardinal change in transcriptional programs. We have demonstrated that, in drosophila, this process is accompanied by a splash of the expression of β-subunit of nascent polypeptide-associated complex (NAC) associated by ribosomes. Nascent polypeptide-associated complex is known as a chaperone involved in co-translational protein folding. This is the first case of the detection of tissue-specific co-translational NAC cofactor in multicellular eukaryotes. It is proposed that spermatocyte specific NAC is involved in the modulation of the expression of the proteins that provide the functioning of subsequent stages of spermatogenesis.

The paper covers the studies of the mineral composition of poor tangsten ores from the Primorsky Kray deposits: Lermontov, Vostok-2, and Skrytoe, and perspective dressing of these ores. Based on the research evidence, the authors worked out the recommendations to process these poor ores as a blend with higher grade ores. The X-ray radiometric separation is proposed to treat Skrytoe deposit ore to higher the tungsten trioxide concentration in the primary feed, thus improving the scheelite recovery in the ore-dressing stages.

U-Pb (SHRIMP) isotope dating of magmatic complexes of tungsten ore-magmatic systems (OMSs) resulted in a conclusion about the close age (103–105 Ma) of their formation in the magmatic rock masses from the Tatibinsk plutonic series whose location is controlled by the Sikhote-Alin’ strike-slip fault system. The OMSs are formed within the zones of strike-slip fault extensions (“windows”) dipping into the mantle, which establishes the conditions for the participation of deep fluids in the generation of melts at the level of crustal-mantle interaction. The new data from the study of the isotope composition of helium in the fluid inclusions showed that the content of mantle helium in ores of tungsten OMSs is approximately 10%.

This work presents the results of the study of a small technological sample taken from the borehole core drilled in the ore body of the Skrytoe deposit. Data on the mineral composition and the textural-structural features of the ores are reported. It was found that the studied ores are characterized by low concentrations of tungsten (WO3 less than 0.5%), high contents of phosphorus (P2O5 > 0.5%), and a content of sulfide minerals of no more than 10%. Based on these results, it was proposed to modify the available dressing scheme developed by the ZAO Mekhanobr-Inzhiniring company. This will permit one to optimize the efficiency of the scheelite extraction during mining.

In the salt-tolerant plant Thellungiella halophila, expression of microRNA from MIR398 family, which regulated expression of superoxide dismutase (Cu/Zn-SOD) in Arabidopsis thaliana at posttranscriptional level, was revealed. The effects of various salinity levels, illumination intensity, and UV-B radiation on MIR398 expression was demonstrated by Northern-blot hybridization. These stressors changed the level of MIR398 expression in roots and leaves in opposite directions, which indicates a possible stress-dependent transport of MIR398 over the plant. Under salinity stress and UV-B irradiation, a negative correlation was observed between expression of MIR398 and its target, mRNA of Cu/Zn-SOD, one of the key enzymes of plant antioxidant defense. Thus, MIR398-dependent expression of CSD1 gene is characteristic of not only glycophytes but also halophytes, being organ-unspecific and independent of abiotic stressors affecting the plant.

The accumulations of massive sulfides, mostly pyrrhotite, and the accompanying Pt–Pd and gold mineralization in the more eroded Lantar part of the Dzhugdzhur massif-type anorthosite, Aldan Shield, Russia, are characterized in detail for the first time. The metamorphic basement host-rocks of the anorthosite massif are crosscut by interlayers and injections of pyroxenite and plagioclase peridotite, which have a different extent of pyrrhotite dissemination. Upward, they give way to olivine-bearing gabbronorites interlayered with bodies of sulfide-bearing pyroxenite and gabbro. Above is a zone 350 m thick of pegmatitic gabbroic anorthosites which hosts the main bulk of the sulfide ores of Nyandoma and Batomga areas. These areas differ from one another by intensity of occurrence of the massive and disseminated pyrrhotite, chalcopyrite nests, and late pyrite-bearing assemblages. Platinum–palladium mineralization is represented by moncheite, sperrylite and kotulskite. Copper-, silver-, and Pt–Pd-bearing gold is found in the pyrite concentrate.

The mineral composition of ore veinlets at the Skrytoe deposit (Malinovsky ore node, Primorye) is scrutinized based on the study of core samples from boreholes. It has been established that high Bi and Te concentrations in ores are related to the presence of native bismuth, Ag-Pb-Bi sulfosalts of the lillianite-gustavite series (gustavite, schirmerite, treasurite, and others), bismuth sulfides (bismuthinite and ikunolite), and bismuth sulfotellurides (joseite-A). The chemical compositions of bismuth minerals and their structural interrelations, as well as the attributes of their similarity with mineralization at other compositionally identical deposits in the region, are considered. Problems of the genesis and formational affiliation of the deposit are discussed.

Drill cores of metasomatic rocks and ores from the Lermontovo skarn scheelite-sulfide deposit (Lermontovo ore field, Primorsky krai) have been studied. Feldspar-apatite-scheelite-sulfide metasomatic rocks containing more than 10% WO3 have been identified and characterized. The relationships of these altered rocks to skarn, greisen, and sulfide ore are shown and the implications of these rocks for the formation of ore are determined. In addition, some genetic problems of the deposit are discussed.

The evolutionarily conserved nuclear Piwi protein of Drosophila melanogaster is a representative of the Argonaute small RNA binding protein family. Guided by small piRNAs, Piwi functions in transposon silencing in somatic and germ cells of the gonad. We found that in ovarian somatic and germ cells, as well as in the established ovarian somatic cell line, Piwi is concentrated predominantly in the nucleolus--the main nuclear compartment, participating not only in rRNA synthesis, but also in various cell stress responses. We demonstrated the colocalization of Piwi with nucleolar marker proteins--fibrillarin and Nopp140. A mutation preventing Piwi transport to the nucleus and disturbing transposon silencing (piwi(Nt)) leads to 6-8-fold upregulation of rRNA genes expression, as evaluated by the level of transcripts of transposon insertions in 28S rRNA genes. RNase treatment of live cultured ovarian somatic cells depletes Piwi from the nucleolus. The same effect is observed upon inhibiting RNA polymerase I which transcribes rRNA, but not RNA polymerase II. In contrast, upon heat shock Piwi is concentrated in the nucleolus and is depleted from the nucleoplasm. These results implicate Piwi in RNA polymerase activity modulation and stress response in the nucleolus. We discuss possible noncanonical Piwi functions along with its canonical role in transposon silencing by piRNAs.

We present automated systems for monitoring and diagnostics of turbine units at the Shatura GRES-5 district power station, specifically, systems for monitoring their vibration state and the state of the last-stage blading of the low-pressure cylinder. Results are presented from the development of a channel for monitoring the pulsation characteristics of the working medium in the flow path of the steam-admission devices of an LMZ K-210-12.8-4 turbine. The relationship between unstable operating conditions of the control valves and the vibration characteristics of high-pressure rotor bearings is investigated. Results of the operation of the systems and the monitoring channels under the operational conditions of the turbine unit are presented.

This article considers the physical properties of cells. On the basis of these properties, an electrodynamic model was constructed in terms of equivalent networks. This model makes it possible to study how external influences act upon a cell. For example, it can be employed to analyze cell behavior at different doses of pharmaceuticals, alpha emission, beta radiation, gamma rays, and electromagnetic fields.

Specific inhibition of gene expression by exogenous homologous double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) in invertebrates and in the early development of vertebrates is termed RNA interference. Cultured cells were cotransfected with reporter plasmids and dsRNA. The inhibitory effect on reporter gene expression depended on the extent of homology between dsRNA and the target gene. RNA interference was also studied in cells cotransfected with plasmids directing synthesis of sense and antisense RNAs. Production of antisense RNA only slightly inhibited expression of the reporter gene. Simultaneous expression of both sense and antisense RNAs caused by cotransfection by corresponding plasmids did not inhibit expression of the reporter construct.

Designs and basic characteristics are considered for imagers having ellipsoidal-mirror and lens antennas. These operate in the 8 mm range and are intended for ultrasensitive measurement of millimeter-range field patterns and for the construction of images by computer processing.
