Magnesium oxide nanostructured particles (NP) were prepared using a simple solution combustion technique using different leaf extracts such as Mangifera indica (Mango - Ma), Azadirachta indica (Neem—Ne), and Carica papaya (Papaya—Pa) as surfactants. The highly crystalline phase of MgO nanostructures was confirmed by PXRD and FTIR studies for 2 h 500°C calcined samples. To analyze the characteristics of obtained material–MaNP, NeNP, and PaNP for dosimetry applications, thermoluminescence (TL) studies were carried out for Co-60 gamma rays irradiated samples in the dose range 10–50 KGy; PaNP and NeNP exhibited well-defined glow curve when compared with MaNP samples. In addition, it was observed that the TL intensity decreases, with increase in gamma dose and the glow peak temperature is shifted towards the higher temperature with the increase in heating rate. The glow peak was segregated using glow curve deconvolution and thermal cleaning method. Kinetic parameters estimated using Chen’s method, trap depth (E), and frequency factor (s) were found to be 0.699, 7.408, 0.4929, and 38.71, 11.008, and 10.71 for PaNP, NeNP, and MaNP respectively. The well-resolved glow curve, good linear behavior in the dose range of 10–50, KGy, and less fading were observed in PaNP as compared with MaNP and NeNP. Further, the antibacterial activity was checked against human pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A visible zone of clearance was observed at 200 and 100 μg/mL by the PaNP and NeNP, indicating the death of colonies by the nanoparticles. Therefore, PaNP nanomaterial is a potential phosphor material for dosimetry and antibacterial application compared to NeNP and MaNP.

Abstract Fifty groundwater samples were obtained pre and post-monsoon seasons in parts of hard rock terrain in Andhra Pradesh, South India, in order to assess the drinking water quality. PIG values of groundwater samples ranged from 0.95–1.53 and 0.83–1.28 during pre and post-monsoon seasons. Groundwater is the most common source of drinking and irrigation in the world. As a result of human activities and natural processes, nitrate levels in most groundwater supplies in arid and semi-arid areas have risen in recent decades. As a result of human activities and natural processes, the levels of fluoride and nitrate in most groundwater supplies in arid and semi-arid areas have increased in recent decades. Thirty groundwater samples were taken from bore wells to learn about the contaminated situations of groundwater fluoride and nitrate in sections of Cuddapah, South India, and to determine the likely harm to the health of adults, children, and infants. In the study villages' wells, flouride concentrations range from 0.1–3.2 mg/L, with 40% of groundwater exceeding fluoride guidelines (1.5 mg/L) and Nitrate concentrations range from 23.2–110.8 mg/L, with 86.6% of groundwater exceeding nitrate guidelines (45 mg/L). 96% of groundwater exceeds the allowable THI values (>1) for adults (0.74–4.02), children (0.75–4.08), and infants (0.57–3.10). According to the PIG categorization, 23% of total groundwater samples fall into the low pollution zone (PIG: 1.38) whereas 47% of samples fall into the moderate pollution zone (1.83) and 30% of groundwater samples fall into the high pollution zone (2.20). Hence, appropriate preventative steps must be adopted to reduce the health risk in this area.

Ecopoetics, a subgenre of the ecocritical movement, focuses on human beings' impact on nonhuman world and various ecological concerns. It draws people's attention to the deep link that exists between man and nature. Poets like A K Ramanujan, Nissim Ezekiel, and T Vasudeva Reddy have brought out the interrelationship between human and nonhuman realms in their own distinct way in their works. To evaluate hydrogeochemical evaluation of groundwater for drinking & irrigation practices in and around Lakkireddipalli and Ramapuram, Y.S.R District, Andhra Pradesh, India, thirty groundwater samples were collected during March 2018. Most of the groundwater samples are above the safe limits of W.H.O standards. Groundwater is exceeding the permissible limits of TDS, TH, EC, chloride and sulphates. Geogenic and anthropogenic sources are the main contributing factors for fluoride and nitrate respectively. Rock dominance is the predominant hydrogeochemical factor controlling the water chemistry. Piper's diagram reveals that water is of mixed Ca Mg Cl type. Irrigational water quality indices reveal that majority of groundwater samples falls under the unsuitable category and application of this untreated irrigational water is harmful for the crops and decreases the crop yield. Hence more saline tolerant crops could be suggested to combat soil salinization and application of lime/gypsum may be suggested to bout the soil permeability. In this study an attempt was made to assess the mining associated urbanization impact on rural agricultural lands due to expansion of mining dump yards, pulverizing mills and beneficiation plants in and around Govindampalle village, YSR District, A.P by using Geospatial technologies. Various land use and land cover (LULC) classes, mainly, cropland, plantation, fallow land, mining/industrial, water body, settlements and scrub lands were recognized and their impact on the environment has been discussed. Google earth historical imagery during 2010 and 2017 are used to map and assess these land use and land cover changes in the ArcGIS flat form. LULC change detection analysis data showed that cropland, water bodies and scrublands were decreased by 10, 2, 14 and 20 percent, respectively from 2010 to 2017. On the other hand industrial areas and agricultural plantations showed an increasing trend with 14 and 20 percent growth rate respectively.

The main focus of this study is to evaluate the groundwater quality through drinking water quality index and regression analysis in semi-arid region and the results are examined with reference to the drinking water quality standards laid down by WHO. Water quality index (WQI) was determined from fourteen physicochemical parameters like pH, EC, TDS, total hardness, total alkalinity, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, chloride, bromide, nitrate, sulphate and fluoride. The drinking water quality index values range from 32.8 - 442.4, indicating three categories i.e. poor, very poor and unfit, which are inappropriate for drinking. Regarding correlation analysis results, EC, TDS, TH, Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+ and Cl− shows high correlation. Most of the parameters are more or less correlated with each other, regression relations have the same correlation coefficients and pH, Na+, EC, TDS, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl−, SO42−, CO32−, TH were significantly positively correlated (R>0.9), indicate the increase in the pollution load.

The main objective of the present study was to determine the distribution levels of nitrate contamination in groundwater and its associated impact on human health risk in the Yerraguntla mandal, South India. For this 40 ground water samples were collected randomly during April 2018. Nitrate concentration in groundwater samples ranged from 2.50 to 760.12 mg/L, with a mean value of 86.13 mg/L. Most of the groundwater samples are exceeding the permissible limits of nitrate (45 mg/l). Hence health risk assessment of nitrate has been carried out. Hazard quotient (HQ) values for infants, children, male and female ranges from 0.05 to 14.25; 0.06 to 18.53; 0.04 to 12.18 and 0.05 to 14.62, respectively. The finding of data showed that HQ value was more than 1 in 42.5% of samples in groups of infants, children and female, and 35% of samples in group of male.

The conceptual site model (CSM) has been designed for Inactive/abandoned mines in the SW part of Cuddapah basin, which gives an overview of Inactive/abandoned mine characterization in terms of physical impacts such as vertical openings, dangerous impoundments, location of steep slopes, waste processing facilities, steep portal abandoned barite mine and assessment of groundwater analytical data. To evaluate the groundwater quality and its suitability for domestic, drinking purposes, 44 groundwater samples were collected from the southwestern part of the Cuddapah basin, were examined for major cations and anions. The suitability of groundwater for drinking purposes is assessed by comparing with the World Health Organization (W.H.O) and Indian standards (IS). This data article provides the inventory data on sinkhole occurrences for the first time from Proterozoic Cuddapah Basin, India. Unexpected ground subsidence incidents are taking place with ground breaking sounds and forming in the Cuddapah Basin since 2007 and their frequency increasing from 2015 to 2017 (15 sinkholes over night in and around Buggavanka River). Such incidents are creating panic situations in the general public of this area which was not experienced in this region ever before. It is interesting to note that majority of sinkholes are forming subsequent to heavy rains and sudden recharge, especially in and around Buggavanka and Chitravati River beds. Hence, there is a strong need for the data on the sinkhole occurrences for detailed field investigations in future. Since, sinkhole inventory is a vital and pioneering step in sinkhole hazard analysis, the consistency of sinkhole hazard and vulnerability maps and the efficiency of the mitigation measures chiefly rely on the accuracy, completeness, and fidelity of the sinkhole inventories. Geospatial technologies played a major role in this inventory in terms of data collection, editing and analysis of various thematic maps. Groundwater is a vital resource for most developmental activities. Demand for groundwater is increasing due to paucity of surface water and recurrent failures of monsoons. Increasing demand for groundwater causes water level to decline and water quality to deteriorate. This data article is aimed to investigate the quality of drinking water of Obulavaripalli Mandal YSR district based on water quality Index (WQI). To evaluate WQI in the study area, twenty groundwater samples were collected and different physico-chemical parameters viz., pH, EC, TDS, TH, total alkalinity (TA), calcium (Ca2+), magnesium (Mg2+), chloride (Cl−), sulphate (SO42−) and fluoride (Fˉ) were analyzed. WQI data for groundwater samples indicated that 30% of the samples fall under excellent rating, 40% of the samples fall under good category and another 30% of the groundwater is under poor category.
