1. Intraoperative computed tomography perfusion navigation for maximal resection of high grade gliomas: a prospective non-randomized trial

Abstract

Background: The main purpose of surgery for glioblastoma is to ensure the maximally possible cytoreduction. Computed tomography perfusion imaging has non-invasive tools for assessment of tumor blood flow and allows for visualization of the tumor borders and its most malignant zones. Aim: To evaluate the efficacy of intraoperative computed tomography perfusion navigation (ICTPN) during surgery for high grade gliomas. Materials and methods: This prospective non-randomized study included 142 patients (76 men and 66 women) with morphologically verified diagnosis of glioblastoma or diffuse astrocytoma grade 4 (World Health Organization 2021 criteria), who had surgery from 2016 to 2022. The ICTPN-based procedures were performed in 94 patients, with 55 with gross total and 39 with subtotal tumor resection. The control group included 48 patients with non-ICTPN-based surgical procedures. All patients were treated with standard adjuvant chemoradiation therapy. The efficacy of surgery was assessed every 3 months. The study endpoint was any tumor progression. The duration of the follow-up was 15 months. Baseline and contrast-enhanced preoperative imaging and postoperative follow-up assessments were performed with a 3T magnetic resonance imaging scanner (General Electric Discovery W750). ICTPN was done with a 32 slice computed tomography scanner (Toshiba Aquilion LB). Results: In the totally resected ICTPN group, the mean duration of the relapse-free period was 13.05 months; the relapse-free survival at 6 and 12 months was 92 and 55%, respectively (p 0.001). These results were significantly better than those in the subtotally resected ICTPN patients (8.98 months, 66 and 9%, respectively; log rank test for Kaplan-Meier curves, p 0.001) and in non-ICTPN patients (5.81 months, 23 and 0%, respectively, log rank test, p 0.001). Conclusion: ICTPN enables a more objective assessment of the tumor borders and the extent of its resection, as well as relapse-free survival benefits for the patients.

Abstract

The viruses that most commonly affect human respiratory tract include rhinoviruses, respiratory syncytial viruses (RSVs), influenza, and coronaviruses (CoVs). The virus infection of the epithelial cells of the respiratory tract triggers an inflammation accompanied by the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines/chemokines including IL6, IL8 (CXCL8), IL1β, and tumor necrosis factor α (TNFα). The transition of the infection to the acute inflammatory phase in the lungs is accompanied by an increase in the production of cytokines, an influx of neutrophils and T cells into the lungs, and the induction of chemokines – CXCR3 receptor ligands – the main participants of generalized inflammation. We studied the pharmacodynamic activity of the new compound XC221GI and its effect on release of the IL6 and IL8 in the course of an experimental RSV infection in vitro in human lung carcinoma cells A549 and in vivo in the lungs of cotton rats. We also studied the effect of XC221GI on the production of the chemokines CXCL10, CXCL9, and CXCL11 in mouse bronchoalveolar lavage as well as on the influx of neutrophils into the mouse lungs after the intranasal administration of interferon γ (IFNγ). The obtained results demonstrate the anti-inflammatory activity of XC221GI, which suppresses the excessive production of the key inflammatory markers IL6, IL8, CXCL10, CXCL9, and CXCL11 as well as the influx of neutrophils into the lungs thereby reducing lung pathology. These data confirm the effectiveness of XC221GI as a medicine for preventive anti-inflammatory therapy during a viral infection of the respiratory tract.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to develop students’ critical thinking for solving problems in the field of information security by using the method of problem learning in teaching the discipline “Information Security”. The role of this method in the development of critical thinking, research creativity of students and their achievement of a better understanding of educational material in the field of information security is emphasized.Materials and research methods. The main conditions for the effectiveness of problem learning in the study of the discipline “Information Security” are highlighted by the method of analysis of the subject area: motivation of students, the feasibility and significance of problem situations offered to students on various aspects of information security, dialogical friendly communication between lecturer and students. As research materials, an example of using the method of problem learning in solving the task of information protection in state information systems with terminal access devices is considered. The example presents the problem of increasing the efficiency of information protection in state information systems with terminal access devices, i.e. state information systems using the “thin client” architecture, as well as a way to solve it by assessing threats and improving the relevant mechanisms for ensuring information security, presented in the regulatory documents governing the requirements for information protection in state information systems with terminal access devices. Results. The paper considers the practical task of creating and resolving a problem situation for the protection of information in state information systems with terminal access devices, which can be used in the educational process to solve similar tasks by the method of problem learning.The creation of a problematic situation is based on the existing contradictions in the regulations governing the functioning and protection of information of this type of systems in which the protected information is processed in order to comply with legislation and ensure the functioning of authorities. As a result of using a systematic approach, which involves considering the process of information protection in the form of a set of stages in the formation of requirements for state information systems using the architecture of the “thin client”, improving the regulatory framework, the trainees form proposals for the protection of information in state information systems using the architecture of the “thin client” to ensure the design security of state information systems, taking into account the complex of urgent threats to information security. The presented solution to the problem situation in the considered task requires from the trainees general cultural competencies, such as: identifying contradictions, colliding opposing points of view, comparing facts, considering the problem from different points of view, generalizing, concretizing facts, etc.Conclusions. Thus, the paper substantiates the method of problem learning in the study of the discipline “Information Security” and presents an example of its use in solving the problem of information protection in state information systems with terminal access devices. As a result, the trainees must identify threats that are absent in the information security threat databank of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control of the Russian Federation (FSTEC of Russia) and determine the directions for further development of information security and information protection in state information systems with terminal access devices. The practical solution of this problem by a group of students within the framework of the study of the discipline “Information Security” showed a high level of competence development.

Abstract

The aim of the study is to increase the effectiveness of information security management for state information systems (SIS) with terminal access devices by improving regulatory legal acts that should be logically interconnected and not contradict each other, as well as use a single professional thesaurus that allows understanding and describe information security processes.Currently, state information systems with terminal access devices are used to ensure the realization of the legitimate interests of citizens in information interaction with public authorities [1].One of the types of such systems are public systems [2]. They are designed to provide electronic services to citizens, such as paying taxes, obtaining certificates, filing of applications and other information. The processed personal data may belong to special, biometric, publicly available and other categories [3]. Various categories of personal data, concentrated in a large volume about a large number of citizens, can lead to significant damage as a result of their leakage, which means that this creates information risks.There are several basic types of architectures of state information systems: systems based on the “thin clientpeer-to-peer network systems; file server systems; data processing centers; systems with remote user access; the use of different types of operating systems (heterogeneity of the environment); use of applications independent of operating systems; use of dedicated communication channels [4]. Such diversity and heterogeneity of state information systems, on the one hand, and the need for high-quality state regulation in the field of information security in these systems, on the other hand, require the study and development of legal acts that take into account primarily the features of systems that have a typical modern architecture of “thin customer". Materials and research methods. The protection of the state information system is regulated by a large number of legal acts that are constantly being improved with changes and additions to the content. At the substantive level, it includes many stages, such as the formation of SIS requirements, the development of a security system, its implementation, and certification. The protected information is processed in order to enforce the law and ensure the functioning of the authorities. The need to protect confidential information is determined by the legislation of the Russian Federation [5, 6]. Therefore, to assess the quality of the regulatory framework of information security for terminal access devices of the state information system, the analysis of the main regulatory legal acts is carried out and on the basis of it, proposals are developed by analogy to improve existing regulatory documents in the field of information security.Results. The paper has developed proposals for improving the regulatory framework of information security for terminal access devices of the state information system- for uniformity and unification, the terms with corresponding definitions are justified for their establishment in the documents of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC) or Rosstandart;- rules for the formation of requirements for terminals, which should be equivalent requirements for computer equipment in the “Concept for the protection of computer equipment and automated systems from unauthorized access to information ".Conclusion. General recommendations on information protection in state information systems using the “thin client" architecture are proposed, specific threats that are absent in the FSTEC threat bank are justified, and directions for further information security for the class of state information systems under consideration are identified. Due to the large number of stakeholders involved in the coordination and development of unified solutions, a more specific consideration of the problems and issues raised is possible only with the participation of representatives of authorized federal executive bodies and business representatives for discussion.

Abstract

The rapid development of cities, as well as the growing number of natural and man-made disasters, makes it important to place part of various urban buildings underground, as well as design the operation of these facilities in emergency situations. The article is devoted to the study of the possibility of using urban underground structures as protective objects in the mountainous regions of Russia (using the example of Primorsky Krai). It was proved that for successful development of underground space and implementation of existing projects, an appropriate urban planning program should be developed, which would link socio-economic issues with architectural planning and engineering and technical measures, and such a program is necessary at the stage of engineering development of new territories or during reconstruction plots of old buildings. The technological parameters of the efficiency of dual-purpose underground structures are revealed. Capacity, volume of the structure and the required volume of air were taken as decisive parameters in the design of such a structure. The obtained mathematical dependences of the volume of the underground structure on the number of people being sheltered and the necessary ventilation on the capacity allow to interpolate and extrapolate, obtaining the necessary parameters of the technological efficiency of using urban underground structures as dual-use objects.

Abstract

Introduction. The development of efficient self-compacting concrete is an urgent task for building materials science. A successful implementation of the task can be the use of ash of rice husk as an alternative material in the production of concrete. The aim of the research is to study the influence of the organo-mineral nanomodifier on the properties of self-compacting concrete.Materials and methods. The organomineral nanomodifier is developed using Portland cement, rice husk ash and quartz flour, which are milled together to a specific surface of 500-900 m2 /kg. Superplasticizer “Hidetal” is used to reduce the water-cement ratio. The properties of the mixture are tested for rheological characteristics. The bulk density of the samples is measured by the Archimedes method. An investigation of the concrete microstructure is carried out by electron microscopy. The compressive strength of the samples is obtained at the age of 7 and 28 days.Results. The most effective fineness of grinding of nanomodifier is 550 m2 /kg. The maximum increase in strength and the best rheological characteristics in comparison with pure thin-grained Portland cement are achieved by the introduction of a nanomodifier in an amount of 10.5%. However, the variation in the modulus of the samples’ elasticity does not reveal the dependence on the amount of nanomodifier. The modulus of elasticity of self-compacting concrete primarily depends on the amount of coarse aggregate. Therefore, the pozzolanic reaction helps to increase the compressive strength of concrete by improving the interfacial bond between the cement paste and the aggregate.Discussion and conclusions. Plant waste has the potential to be used as a replacement for Portland cement in self-compacting concrete that retains the mechanical and operational characteristics of the concrete mix and ready-mixed concrete. The surface area of the ash is increased by mechanochemical activation. The inclusion of ash led to a reduction in the workability of concrete, but with the help of an additional superplasticizer, these properties for all samples are aligned. An increase in the nanomodifier content leads to a decrease in the early physical and mechanical properties, while the final strength of self-compacting concrete containing a nanomodifier is comparable to conventional samples.

Abstract

The cross section of atomic electron Compton scattering γ+e→γ′+e′ was measured in the 4.400–5.475 GeV photon beam energy region by the PrimEx collaboration at Jefferson Lab with an accuracy of 2.6% and less. The results are consistent with theoretical predictions that include next-to-leading order radiative corrections. The measurements provide the first high precision test of this elementary QED process at beam energies greater than 0.1 GeV.

10. The Role of Moral Education in the Process of Mastering Knowledge

Abstract

Introduction. The article draws attention to the historically established types of knowledge. It is noted that the development of a technogenic society objectively requires a moral component in the process of acquiring knowledge. The purpose of the article is to substantiate, within the framework of a hierarchically subordinate approach, the connection between theoretical and practical components in the learning process. Materials and Methods. The theoretical and methodological basis is the concepts of Thomists and Neo-Thomists. The matrix is a hierarchically-subordinate approach, which presupposes the formation of both stable knowledge in the corresponding academic discipline in the learning process, and the mechanisms of the formation of a moral personality. Causal-genetic and axiological methods are used as tools. Results. The article argues that the application of the analyzed approach is an effective way to acquire knowledge and transform it for the development of a moral and creative personality. The main conceptual provisions of the considered approach are highlighted, which allows, on the one hand, to form the pedagogical skill of the teacher in the framework of training, on the other hand, to change the student’s value system, developing an interest in knowledge and moral perfection. Discussion and Conclusion. The practical significance of the research focused on the formation of a personal value system is emphasized. The conditions for the practical implementation of the proposed methodology, which occupies an adjacent position between the motivational and educational aspects of the educational process, are indicated.

Abstract

Satellite-based hyperspectral sensors provide spectroscopic information in relatively narrow contiguous spectral bands over a large area which can be useful in forestry applications. This study evaluates the potential of satellite hyperspectral Resurs-P data for forest species mapping. Firstly, a comparative study between top of canopy reflectance obtained from the Resurs-P, from the airborne hyperspectral scanner CASI and from field measurement (FieldSpec ASD 4) on selected vegetation cover types is conducted. Secondly, Resurs-P data is tested in classification and verification of different forest species compartments. The results demonstrate that satellite hyperspectral Resurs-P sensor can produce useful informational and show good performance for forest species classification comparable both with forestry map and classification from airborne CASI data, but also indicate that developments in pre-processing steps are still required to improve the mapping level.

Abstract

Background The development and clinical implementation of the cap-dependent endonuclease (CEN) inhibitor baloxavir marboxil was a breakthrough in influenza therapy, but it was associated with the emergence of drug-resistant variants. Objectives To design and synthesize structural analogues of CEN inhibitors and evaluate their safety, pharmacokinetics and antiviral potency in vitro and in vivo. Methods The drug candidate AV5124 and its active metabolite AV5116 were synthesized based on pharmacophore modelling. Stability in plasma and microsomes, plasma protein binding, cytotoxicity and antiviral activities were assessed in vitro. Pharmacokinetics after IV or oral administration were analysed in CD-1 mice. Acute toxicity and protective efficacy against lethal A(H1N1)pdm09 influenza virus challenge were examined in BALB/c mice. Results Pharmacophore model-assisted, 3D molecular docking predicted key supramolecular interactions of the metal-binding group and bulky hydrophobic group of AV5116 with the CEN binding site (Protein Data Bank code: 6FS6) that are essential for high antiviral activity. AV5116 inhibited influenza virus polymerase complexes in cell-free assays and replication of oseltamivir-susceptible and -resistant influenza A and B viruses at nanomolar concentrations. Notably, AV5116 was equipotent or more potent than baloxavir acid (BXA) against WT (I38-WT) viruses and viruses with reduced BXA susceptibility carrying an I38T polymerase acidic (PA) substitution. AV5116 exhibited low cytotoxicity in Madin–Darby canine kidney cells and lacked mitochondrial toxicity, resulting in favourable selective indices. Treatment with 20 or 50 mg/kg AV5124 prevented death in 60% and 100% of animals, respectively. Conclusions Overall, AV5124 and A5116 are promising inhibitors of the influenza virus CEN and warrant further development as potent anti-influenza agents.

Abstract

Machines for producing flax fibre as automatic control objects are described in this article. Versions of control of drying machine by control of amount of supplied heat, intensity of replacement of spent drying agent with fresh one, change of drying agent speed in drying region, change of material movement speed in drying space are considered. It is shown that what is the most rational way of controlling the moisture of retted straw is the way that uses a closed control system with negative feedback. The block diagram of the automatic drying control system that acts on the control object, in this case on the dryer, through the actuator, in order to reduce the amount of humidity deviation depending on the amount and the sign of deviation, is developed.

Abstract

PANDA (anti-proton annihiliation at Darmstadt) is planned to be one of the four main experiments at the future international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. It is going to address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using cooled antiproton beams with a high intensity and and momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c. PANDA is designed to reach a maximum luminosity of 2 × 1032 cm−2 s. Most of the physics programs require an excellent particle identification (PID). The PID of hadronic states at the forward endcap of the target spectrometer will be done by a fast and compact Cherenkov detector that uses the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) principle. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 5° to 22° and to provide a separation power for the separation of charged pions and kaons up to 3 standard deviations (s.d.) for particle momenta up to 4 GeV/c in order to cover the important particle phase space. This document describes the technical design and the expected performance of the novel PANDA disc DIRC detector that has not been used in any other high energy physics experiment before. The performance has been studied with Monte-Carlo simulations and various beam tests at DESY and CERN. The final design meets all PANDA requirements and guarantees sufficient safety margins.

Abstract

Insecticides BI-58 new and Diazinone decrease the extent of damage of the winter wheat culm by cereals flies 7,2–8,0 times in comparison with the control. Combination of the studied insecticides with the mixtures of growth regulators allows to decrease the rate of insecticides application by 20 % without any increase of the culms damage by the pests.

Abstract

—We have studied structure formation of cement stone with the use of silica-containing and inert additives and mechanochemical activation. Rational compositions and the particle size composition of composite binders have been determined by X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, and microstructural analysis, which makes it possible to obtain preset physicomechanical characteristics of cement stone and related concrete. The synergistic effect of pozzolanic and inert additives has been shown to activate hydration processes, densifying the microstructure of newly formed phases.

Abstract

The chemical engineering principles of optimization of the physical and mechanical properties and performance characteristics of dispersed reinforced composite materials are proposed which consist in the integrated effect of a composite binder consisting of jointly ground Portland cement, rice husk ash, a complex of inert fillers, and a hyperplasticizer on the processes of structure formation of cement stone. Here, the effect of increasing the impact endurance increases up to sixfold. It is found that dispersed reinforced concretes with an increased ratio of static tensile strength to static compressive strength Rtens/Rcompr and ductility possess the best endurance to dynamic action. It is proved that this ratio can be increased by using dispersed reinforcement of concretes (so-called fibrous concretes). In experimental studies on penetration of both unreinforced and fiber-reinforced concrete slabs, it is noted that samples of unreinforced concrete are completely fractured into large and small pieces, while samples of fiber-reinforced concrete are not completely fractured, and only through penetration at the impact site was observed; that is, fibrous concrete possesses better impact resistance. These results can be applied to the design of various special structures, such as defense structures of civil defense and emergency situations, fortifications of the Russian Ministry of Defense, and concrete structures of nuclear power plants.

Abstract

It was shown that the interaction of silver cations in alkaline aqueous solutions with various kinds of silicates, regardless of their chemical and aggregation state, leads to the formation of an exclusively disilicate form of silver salt. We develop procedures for synthesis of nanostructured weakly ordered nonstoichiometric silver disilicate Ag6 –xHxSi2O7 capable of forming aqueous colloids. We study the micellular structure of colloidal particles in these solutions and demonstrate that permeability of silicic acid layers enveloping nanosized salt cores of these micelles depends on pH. Colloidal silver disilicate is found to exhibit a high catalytic activity in photoinduced oxidation of a broad spectrum of different compounds, which is demonstrated for compounds stable in aqueous solutions such as some organic dies and ferrocyanide complex ([Fe(CN $$)_{6}^{{ - 4}}$$ ).

19. ANTITUMOR EFFECT OF COLLOIDAL SILVER BISILICATE IN EXPERIMENTAL IN VITRO AND IN VIVO STUDIES

Abstract

The paper presents the results of the research on the antitumor activity of a new drug - atomic clusters of silver (ACS), the colloidal solution of nanostructured silver bisilicate Ag6Si2O7 with particles size of 1-2 nm in deionized water. In vitro studies to evaluate the effect of various ACS concentrations in human tumor cells cultures (breast cancer, colon carcinoma and prostate cancer) were conducted. The highest antitumor activity of ACS was observed in dilutions from 2.7 mg/l to 5.1 mg/l, resulting in the death of tumor cells in all studied cell cultures. In vivo experiments on transplanted Ehrlich carcinoma model in mice consuming 0.75 mg/kg ACS with drinking water revealed significant inhibition of tumor growth since the 14th day of experiment (maximally by 52% on the 28th day, p < 0.05) in comparison with control. Subcutaneous injections of 2.5 mg/kg ACS inhibited Ehrlich's tumor growth on the 7th and 10th days of the experiment (p < 0.05) as compared to control.

Abstract

The antiproton experiment PANDA at FAIR is designed to bring hadron physics to a new level in terms of scope, precision and accuracy. In this work, its unique capability for studies of hyperons is outlined. We discuss ground-state hyperons as diagnostic tools to study non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, and fundamental symmetries. New simulation studies have been carried out for two benchmark hyperon-antihyperon production channels: $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Lambda}\Lambda$ and $\bar{p}p \to \bar{\Xi}^+\Xi^-$. The results, presented in detail in this paper, show that hyperon-antihyperon pairs from these reactions can be exclusively reconstructed with high efficiency and very low background contamination. In addition, the polarisation and spin correlations have been studied, exploiting the weak, self-analysing decay of hyperons and antihyperons. Two independent approaches to the finite efficiency have been applied and evaluated: one standard multidimensional efficiency correction approach, and one efficiency independent approach. The applicability of the latter was thoroughly evaluated for all channels, beam momenta and observables. The standard method yields good results in all cases, and shows that spin observables can be studied with high precision and accuracy already in the first phase of data taking with PANDA., Comment: 26 pages, 16 figures. Abstract

The Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) in Darmstadt, Germany, provides unique possibilities for a new generation of hadron-, nuclear- and atomic physics experiments. The future antiProton ANnihilations at DArmstadt (PANDA or $$\overline{\mathrm{P}}$$ P ¯ ANDA) experiment at FAIR will offer a broad physics programme, covering different aspects of the strong interaction. Understanding the latter in the non-perturbative regime remains one of the greatest challenges in contemporary physics. The antiproton–nucleon interaction studied with PANDA provides crucial tests in this area. Furthermore, the high-intensity, low-energy domain of PANDA allows for searches for physics beyond the Standard Model, e.g. through high precision symmetry tests. This paper takes into account a staged approach for the detector setup and for the delivered luminosity from the accelerator. The available detector setup at the time of the delivery of the first antiproton beams in the HESR storage ring is referred to as the Phase One setup. The physics programme that is achievable during Phase One is outlined in this paper.

Abstract

The ratio of the electric and magnetic form factor of the proton, $\mu_p G_E^p/G_M^p$, has been measured for elastic electron-proton scattering with polarized beam and target up to four-momentum transfer squared, $Q^2=5.66$ (GeV/c)$^2$ using the double spin asymmetry for target spin orientation aligned nearly perpendicular to the beam momentum direction. This measurement of $\mu_p G_E^p/G_M^p$ agrees with the $Q^2$ dependence of previous recoil polarization data and reconfirms the discrepancy at high $Q^2$ between the Rosenbluth and the polarization-transfer method with a different measurement technique and systematic uncertainties uncorrelated to those of the recoil-polarization measurements. The form factor ratio at $Q^2$=2.06 (GeV/c)$^2$ has been measured as $\mu_p G_E^p/G_M^p = 0.720 \pm 0.176_{stat} \pm 0.039_{sys}$, which is in agreement with an earlier measurement with the polarized target technique at similar kinematics. The form factor ratio at $Q^2$=5.66 (GeV/c)$^2$ has been determined as $\mu_p G_E^p/G_M^p=0.244\pm0.353_{stat}\pm0.013_{sys}$, which represents the highest $Q^2$ reach with the double spin asymmetry with polarized target to date.

Abstract

BackgroundThe Trichophyton rubrum species group consists of prevalent causative agents of human skin, nail and hair infections, including T. rubrum sensu stricto and T. violaceum, as well as other less well established or debatable taxa like T. soudanense, T. kuryangei and T. megninii. Our previous study provided limited evidence in favour of the existence of two genetic lineages in the Russian T. rubrum sensu stricto population.ObjectivesWe aimed to study the genetic structure of the Russian population of T. rubrum, and to identify factors shaping this structure.MethodsWe analysed the polymorphism of 12 simple sequence repeat (SSR, or microsatellite) markers and single-nucleotide polymorphism in the TERG_02941 protein-coding gene in 70 T. rubrum isolates and performed a phylogenomic reconstruction.ResultsAll three types of data provided conclusive evidence that the population consists of two genetic lineages. Clustering, performed by means of microsatellite length polymorphism analysis, was strongly dependent on the number of nucleotide repeats in the 5’-area of the fructose-1,6-bisphosphate aldolase gene. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) on the basis of SSR typing data indicated that 22–48% of the variability was among groups within T. rubrum. There was no clear connection of population structure with types of infection, places of geographic origin, aldolase gene expression or urease activity.ConclusionOur results suggest that the Russian population of T. rubrum consists of two cosmopolitan genetic lineages.

Abstract

Hypermucoviscous (HV) strains of capsular types K1, K2 and K57 are the most virulent representatives of the Klebsiella pneumoniae species. Eight novel bacteriophages lytic for HV K. pneumoniae were isolated and characterized. Three bacteriophages, KpV41, KpV475, and KpV71 were found to have a lytic activity against mainly K. pneumoniae of capsular type K1. Two phages, KpV74, and KpV763 were lytic for K2 capsular type K. pneumoniae , and the phage KpV767 was specific to K57-type K. pneumoniae only. Two more phages, KpV766, and KpV48 had no capsular specificity. The phage genomes consist of a linear double-stranded DNA of 40,395–44,623 bp including direct terminal repeats of 180–246 bp. The G + C contents are 52.3–54.2 % that is slightly lower than that of genomes of K. pneumoniae strains being used for phage propagation. According to the genome structures, sequence similarity and phylogenetic data, the phages are classified within the genus Kp32virus and Kp34virus of subfamily Autographivirinae, family Podoviridae . In the phage genomes, genes encoding proteins with putative motifs of polysaccharide depolymerase were identified. Depolymerase genes of phages KpV71 and KpV74 lytic for hypermucoviscous K. pneumoniae of K1 and K2 capsular type, respectively, were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli , and the recombinant gene products were purified. The specificity and polysaccharide-degrading activity of the recombinant depolymerases were demonstrated.

Abstract

Aerobic exercise training is associated with adaptive changes in skeletal muscles and their vascular bed; such changes in individual muscles may vary depending on their characteristics and recruitment. This study was aimed at comparing the effects of eight-week treadmill training on the locomotor and respiratory muscles in rats. The training course increased the aerobic performance in rats, which was evidenced by an increase in maximum O2 consumption and a decrease in the blood lactate concentration in ramp test. The succinate dehydrogenase activity was increased in the red portion of the gastrocnemius muscle, but not in the diaphragm of trained rats. Arterial segments were isolated from feed arteries and studied by wire myography. The relaxation in response to acetylcholine in gastrocnemius arteries in trained animals was higher as compared with controls (due to higher NO production), while contractile responses to noradrenaline (in the presence of propranolol) were not changed. On the contrary, the endothelial function of diaphragm arteries was not affected by training, but contractile responses to activation of α-adrenoceptors were markedly increased. Thus, aerobic training may increase the blood supply rate to both locomotor and respiratory muscles, but the underlying regulatory mechanisms are different. The results obtained allow us to reveal the physiological mechanisms that determine the physical performance of the body under conditions of compromised functioning of the respiratory system.

In this article, in the Clifford algebra $$R_{1,3}$$, we investigated Pauli’s theorem. An algorithm for constructing Pauli’s operator is given. It is shown that the problem of constructing Pauli’s operator is related to the problem of zero divisor in Clifford algebras. Pauli’s operators for generating a basis composed of elements of of first, third or mixed rank are found.

Abstract

The cross section of atomic electron Compton scattering $\gamma + e \rightarrow \gamma^\prime + e^\prime $ was measured in the 4.40--5.475 GeV photon beam energy region by the {\em PrimEx} collaboration at Jefferson Lab with an accuracy of 2\% and less. The results are consistent with theoretical predictions that include next-to-leading order radiative corrections. Abstract

The issues of the paper are the procedure for stabilizing the characteristics of a large-sized multi-beam hybrid parabolic antenna subjected to operational burdens and its effectiveness. Stabilization is due to adapting the excitation distribution of clusters, called additional focusing. Adjusting not only the distribution, but also the position of hexagonal clusters, if necessary, significantly improves the results. The averaged and worst-case gain values for a series of reflector deformations give a quantitative measure of the stabilization effect. Additional focusing reduces the average gain loss from 1.6 dB to 0.1 … 0.2 dB.

Abstract

The Spin Asymmetries of the Nucleon Experiment (SANE) measured two double spin asymmetries using a polarized proton target and polarized electron beam at two beam energies, 4.7 GeV and 5.9 GeV. A large-acceptance open-configuration detector package identified scattered electrons at 40$^{\circ}$ and covered a wide range in Bjorken $x$ ($0.3 < x < 0.8$). Proportional to an average color Lorentz force, the twist-3 matrix element, $\tilde{d}_2^p$, was extracted from the measured asymmetries at $Q^2$ values ranging from 2.0 to 6.0 GeV$^2$. The data display the opposite sign compared to most quark models, including the lattice QCD result, and an apparently unexpected scale dependence. Furthermore when combined with the neutron data in the same $Q^2$ range the results suggest a flavor independent average color Lorentz force.

Abstract

The $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ (anti-Proton ANnihiliation at DArmstadt) experiment will be one of the four flagship experiments at the new international accelerator complex FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) in Darmstadt, Germany. $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ will address fundamental questions of hadron physics and quantum chromodynamics using high-intensity cooled antiproton beams with momenta between 1.5 and 15 GeV/c and a design luminosity of up to 2 × 1032 cm−2 s−1. Excellent particle identification (PID) is crucial to the success of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ physics program. Hadronic PID in the barrel region of the target spectrometer will be performed by a fast and compact Cherenkov counter using the detection of internally reflected Cherenkov light (DIRC) technology. It is designed to cover the polar angle range from 22° to 140° and will provide at least 3 standard deviations (s.d.) π/K separation up to 3.5 GeV/c, matching the expected upper limit of the final state kaon momentum distribution from simulation. This documents describes the technical design and the expected performance of the $\overline{{\rm{P}}}\mathrm{ANDA}$ Barrel DIRC detector. The design is based on the successful BaBar DIRC with several key improvements. The performance and system cost were optimized in detailed detector simulations and validated with full system prototypes using particle beams at GSI and CERN. The final design meets or exceeds the PID goal of clean π/K separation with at least 3 s.d. over the entire phase space of charged kaons in the Barrel DIRC.

Abstract

The stabilization of the beams of large-sized multi-beam hybrid mirror antenna (MBHMA), the reflector profile of which is subject to distortion due to changing operational factors, is a complicated technical task. One of the ways to maintain energy efficiency of the satellite communications system in these circumstances is to adapt the amplitude-phase distribution of the clusters of the antenna array to random deformations of the reflector. By statistical modeling, the potentially achievable characteristics of the system are evaluated. Three variants of adaptation of cluster excitation were modeled: a) for fixed clusters, b) for adaptation of excitation, c) for adaptation of weights and position of clusters, d) for adaptation of weights and cluster configurations. For multivariate calculations, we use the simplified model of MBHMA that we have proposed. Comparison with calculations in Ticra Grasp environment confirmed the correctness of the model. Not only radiation patterns, but also focal spots on the antenna array we calculated to determine the rational composition of cluster elements and the vector of their excitation coefficients. Beams gain within the service area for reflector deformations were the subject of analysis. The studies showed that gain decrease can be reduced to 0.1 … 0.2 dB instead of 1.6 dB taking place without adaptation.

Abstract

The direct reconstruction of the pp elastic scattering amplitudes at the energy of 16 GeV is discussed. At the SPASCHARM experiment, the 19 different spin dependent observables will be measured in pp elastic scattering. The suggested selection of observables allows a complete analytical reconstruction of elastic scattering amplitudes as a solution of the system of bilinear equations. A set of physical observables, which are necessary for model independent reconstruction of all five complex elastic pp scattering amplitudes, is defined.

Abstract

The SPASCHARM experiment at U70 aims an exploration of a fundamental problem in modern particle physics, the role of spin in strong interactions. At present, the first physics data have been accumulated at a negative 28 GeV beam, interacting with a frozen polarized proton target. The SPASCHARM wide-aperture spectrometer can detect both charged and neutral particles in the large solid angle with 2π azimuthal coverage in the fragmentation region of beam-particles. It covers the kinematic region of non-perturbative quantum chromodynamics (QCD), where the theoretical predictions are difficult and unreliable due to the full strength quark confinement at low and medium momentum transfers. In this report, the current status of the experiment is presented. The algorithm for reconstructing charged tracks is discussed along with its results on real data and the comparison with the Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. Based on a real track reconstruction, the statistical errors for the measurements of single-spin asymmetries in inclusive charged pion production are estimated. The data analysis is in progress.

Abstract

In the Spring 2018, the first physics data was accumulated in the new SPASCHARM experiment at U-70 accelerator of IHEP, Protvino. The first stage of SPASCHARM’s physics programs prursues the goal of studying spin effects in the beam fragmentation region at an unpolarized negative 28 GeV beam, interacting with a frozen polarized proton target. In this resport, the feasibility of measuring the single spin asymmetry AN in the reaction: π − + p↑→K 0 S + X is evaluated by Monte-Carlo simulations. We present estimates of the detection efficiency as well as for expected event statistics. It is shown that, in the process of interest above, the attainable statistical errors for AN would be at the scale of a few percents.

Abstract

Bound nuclear systems with two units of strangeness are still poorly known despite their importance for many strong interaction phenomena. Stored antiprotons beams in the GeV range represent an unparalleled factory for various hyperon-antihyperon pairs. Their outstanding large production probability in antiproton collisions will open the floodgates for a series of new studies of systems which contain two or even more units of strangeness at the PANDA experiment at FAIR. For the first time, high resolution gamma-spectroscopy of doubly strange Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei will be performed, thus complementing measurements of ground state decays of Lambda Lambda-hypernuclei at J-PARC or possible decays of particle unstable hypernuclei in heavy ion reactions. High resolution spectroscopy of multistrange Xi(-) -atoms will be feasible and even the production of Omega(-) -atoms will be within reach. The latter might open the door to the vertical bar S vertical bar = 3 world in strangeness nuclear physics, by the study of the hadronic Omega(-) -nucleus interaction. These amplitudes are deduced analytically by solving bilinear relations. Monte-Carlo simulations of elastic scattering as well background reactions were carried out. Elastic and diffraction interactions of protons were simulated by using PYTHIA generator for 16 GeV incident protons, designed Setup geometry and the resolution of the detectors. The criteria to select elastic processes are discussed and presented. Two-dimensional distributions of the product of the tangents of the polar angles of the recoil particle and the scattered particle versus difference of the azimuth angles of these particles, were obtained. The estimated ratio of the signal to background S/(S+B) is about 0.99.

Abstract

The exclusive reaction $\ensuremath{\gamma}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}p{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ was studied in the photon energy range 3.0--3.8 GeV and the momentum transfer range $0.4l\ensuremath{-}tl1.0\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{GeV}}^{2}$. Data were collected with the CLAS detector at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility. In this kinematic range, the integrated luminosity was about $20\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{pb}}^{\ensuremath{-}1}$. The reaction was isolated by detecting the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$ and proton in CLAS, and reconstructing the ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ via the missing-mass technique. Moments of the di-pion decay angular distributions were derived from the experimental data. Differential cross sections for the $S$, $P$, and $D$-waves, in the ${M}_{{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}}$ mass range 0.4--1.4 GeV, were derived performing a partial wave expansion of the extracted moments. Beside the dominant contribution of the $\ensuremath{\rho}(770)$ meson in the $P$-wave, evidence for the ${f}_{0}(980)$ and the ${f}_{2}(1270)$ mesons was found in the $S$ and $D$-waves, respectively. The differential production cross sections $d\ensuremath{\sigma}/dt$ for individual waves in the mass range of the above-mentioned mesons were extracted. This is the first time the ${f}_{0}(980)$ has been measured in a photoproduction experiment.

Abstract

The aim of this work was creation of recombinant chimeric protein using TAKARA expression system Brevibacillus choshinensis with fused gene dbpAAG, which include the parts of dbpAA and dbpAG genes coding the major antigenic determinants of decorinbinding proteins А (DbpA) from two species of borreliosis agents - Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia gаrinii. Such plasmid should be able to support the synthesis of recombinant chimeric polypeptide consisting immunogenic domains of DbpA Borrelia afzelii and Borrelia gаrinii in the stable and soluble forms, that important for effective using in Lyme diseases serodiagnosis. We chose the TAKARA expression system based on the strain Brevibacillus choshinensis and plasmid pNCMO2. It give us possibilities to obtain the scale quantity of the secreted soluble target proteins with native conformation in particular with conserve antigenic determinants. As results, the plasmid pNCMO2 with a fusion gene dbpAAG was constructed. Recombinante plasmide DNA pNCMO2/dbpAAG was used for Brevibacillus choshinensis trasformation. We were able to show that during cultivation in a liquid medium recombinant cells of В. choshinensis/pNCMO2/dbpAAG produced secreted chimeric 30кD protein with high immunoreactivity to Lyme borreliosis patient's serum.

Abstract

The Jefferson Laboratory PrimEx Collaboration has developed and implemented a method to control the tagged photon flux in photoprocluction experiments at the 1% level over the photon energy range from 4.9 to 5.5 GeV. This method has been successfully implemented in a high precision measurement of the neutral pion lifetime. Here, we outline the experimental equipment and the analysis techniques used to accomplish this. These include the use of a total absorption counter for absolute flux calibration, a pair spectrometer for online relative flux monitoring, and a new method for post-bremsstrahlung electron counting. Abstract

The Spin Asymmetries of the Nucleon Experiment (SANE) performed inclusive, double-polarized electron scattering measurements of the proton at the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility at Jefferson Lab. A novel detector array observed scattered electrons of four-momentum transfer 2 . 5 Q 2 6 . 5 GeV 2 and Bjorken scaling 0 . 3 x 0 . 8 from initial beam energies of 4.7 and 5.9 GeV. Employing a polarized proton target whose magnetic field direction could be rotated with respect to the incident electron beam, both parallel and near perpendicular spin asymmetries were measured, allowing model-independent access to transverse polarization observables A 1 , A 2 , g 1 , g 2 and moment d 2 of the proton. This document summarizes the operation and performance of the polarized target, polarized electron beam, and novel detector systems used during the course of the experiment, and describes analysis techniques utilized to access the physics observables of interest.
