Decades of research indicate that emotion recognition is more effective when drawing information from multiple modalities. But what if some modalities are sometimes missing? To address this problem, we propose a novel Transformer-based architecture for recognizing valence and arousal in a time-continuous manner even with missing input modalities. We use a coupling of cross-attention and self-attention mechanisms to emphasize relationships between modalities during time and enhance the learning process on weak salient inputs. Experimental results on the Ulm-TSST dataset show that our model exhibits an improvement of the concordance correlation coefficient evaluation of 37% when predicting arousal values and 30% when predicting valence values, compared to a late-fusion baseline approach.

- Abstract
The aim of this article is to provide a systematic review of the transversal competencies for employability in university graduates from an employer's perspective, with consideration to the importance of the topic in the cross-national context. The PRISMA statement was used to guide the methodology and the reporting for the systematic review. The data collection produced 52 articles from the Scopus and Web of Science (JCR only) databases in the ten years between 2008 and 2018. The analysis focused on the characteristics of the employers and organizations, the methods and the instruments for evaluating transversal competencies, and the most highly valued competencies, both internationally and by continent. One of the main contributions is the creation of a classification that is made up of 41 transversal competencies that are grouped into five dimensions. The results show that employers attributed more importance to the competencies in the dimensions of Job-related basic (JRB) skills, Socio-relational (SR) skills, and Self-management (SM) skills. We conclude that Higher education institutions need to incorporate "pedagogies for employability", which will strengthen the link between the academic setting and the socio-occupational reality and will ensure that graduates make a suitable transition to the world of work.

In this paper, we address the problem of multimodal emotion recognition from multiple physiological signals. We demonstrate that a Transformer-based approach is suitable for this task. In addition, we present how such models may be pretrained in a multimodal scenario to improve emotion recognition performances. We evaluate the benefits of using multimodal inputs and pre-training with our approach on a state-ofthe-art dataset.

Landsat images combined with the METRIC model have been used in applications such as EEFlux to estimate actual evapotranspiration (ETa) in irrigated areas, with uncertainty as to whether the results are sufficiently accurate at local scales. This work compares temporally and spatially ETa estimates using Landsat imagery and the METRIC model with LOCAL measured weather data and EEFlux for an irrigated area in northern Sinaloa, Mexico, from 1995 to 2018. A regression analysis and error metrics such as coefficient of determination (R2), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean square error (RMSE) and slope were used to compare both models. The temporal analysis results confirm that ETa differences are closely related to crop growth and that the daily mean absolute error was 1.17 mm/day. Spatial analysis showed that when using only cropland pixels without non-cropland pixels in EEFlux, the R2 increases from 0.36 to 0.73, and the RMSE decreases from 2.52 to 1.98 mm/day. Therefore, EEFlux should be limited to cropland areas, and it is suggested to exclude Landsat images close to the planting and harvesting season to reduce the differences.

We evaluated the effects of solvents with different polarities—methylene chloride (MC), methanol (MT), and hexane (HE) on the extraction of compounds from Mexican red pitaya seed oil. The fatty acid composition and the structural, rheological, and thermal properties of the different extracts were characterized. The results indicated that the highest yield of extraction was generated for MC (26.96%), as well as the greatest amount of Mono and Polyunsaturated fatty acids, while the lowest yield was for MT (16.86%). The antioxidant activity was greater in the MT treatment due to extractable compounds from high polarity. The generated extracts contained unsaturated fatty acids, mostly oleic and linoleic acids, and saturated fatty acids such as palmitic acid. The lowest solidification temperature was −6.35 ℃ for MC due to its fatty acid composition, and the degradation temperature was around 240 ℃. The viscosity is a quality parameter; the highest level was generated for the MC treatment, which was significantly different from HE and MT. The composition of the extracts was analyzed using the FT-IR spectroscopy and showed the typical characteristic of absorption bands for triglycerides with high frequency in bands 2852 cm−1 and 2924 cm−1, which indicated that the samples were rich in unsaturated and polyunsaturated acids. These results suggested that pitaya seed oil is an excellent alternative source of essential fatty acids with potential physiological benefits.

The bioaccessibility of total flavonoids, catechin, epigallocatechin, epigallocatechin gallate, epicatechin, rutin, quercetin, isoquercetin, and kaempferol, and changes in antioxidant activities in fresh and mature fava bean seeds during simulating gastrointestinal conditions has been investigated. The portion of bioaccessible flavonoids potentially available for further uptake varies between pods. Flavonoids of mature and fresh seeds after the gastric phase, intestinal phase, and dialysable fraction, simulating bioaccessible flavonoids, were 6.62% and 1.78%, respectively, compared with no-digested pods. Total antioxidant capacities in the bioaccessible fractions were significantly lower than the control. Furthermore, potential bioactivity as a PPAR-gamma antagonist was evaluated, where epigallocatechin gallate presents at -9.50 Kcal/mol vs. -6.53 Kcal/mol, present in troglitazone. These results highlighted that gastrointestinal digestion may substantially affect the absorption of flavonoids in mature and green fava beans and present a potential bioactivity against obesity.

The effects of black bean addition (11, 22, and 33%) to a base mixture of blue corn and powdered spinach were evaluated during the combined process of extrusion cooking and microwaves to obtain a third-generation snack. The expansion index (EI), hardness, water absorption index (WAI), water solubility index (WSI), bulk density (BD), functional properties (total anthocyanin content [TAC], total polyphenol content [TPC], and antioxidant activity [AA]), and nutritional properties (in vitro protein digestibility [IVPD] and protein bioaccessibility [IVPB]) were evaluated. Additionally, X-ray, FT-IR, and microstructural analyzes were conducted to evaluate the structural changes in the extruded and expanded products. A 33 % of black bean addition led to significant (p < 0.05) increases in protein and fiber content, generating increases in hardness, WSI, TAC, BD, IVPV, and IVPB and decreases in EI, TPC, AA, and WAI of final extrudates. Microstructural changes occurred after processing, showing structural damage to the native starch and presenting changes in the type V diffraction pattern and protein denaturation. The extrusion process was adequate to increase the IVPD and IVPB to above 90% and generate high levels of amino acids such as histidine, glutamic acid, glycine, phenylalanine-tyrosine, and leucine, which could generate bioactive peptides.

In order to exploit representations of time-series signals, such as physiological signals, it is essential that these representations capture relevant information from the whole signal. In this work, we propose to use a Transformer-based model to process electrocardiograms (ECG) for emotion recognition. Attention mechanisms of the Transformer can be used to build contextualized representations for a signal, giving more importance to relevant parts. These representations may then be processed with a fully-connected network to predict emotions. To overcome the relatively small size of datasets with emotional labels, we employ self-supervised learning. We gathered several ECG datasets with no labels of emotion to pre-train our model, which we then fine-tuned for emotion recognition on the AMIGOS dataset. We show that our approach reaches state-of-the-art performances for emotion recognition using ECG signals on AMIGOS. More generally, our experiments show that transformers and pre-training are promising strategies for emotion recognition with physiological signals.

This work proposes a conceptual design for recovering polystyrene (PS) using solvents of agro-industrial origin. The literature describes the dilution of expanded polystyrene (EPS) in limonene, followed by its insolubilization with alcohols for recovery. However, there is no information on the solubility limit for the PS + limonene + alcohol system, which is critical for the process design. To determine the solubility limit, we diluted the waste EPS in D-limonene, mixed it with ethanol to form a precipitate, and used a gravimetric method to measure the mass of the compounds. These results allowed for the conceptual design of an EPS recycling process using a chemical process simulator, which includes a separator, a distillation column, and auxiliary equipment such as heaters, coolers, and pumps. An empirical correlation was obtained for the solubility limit, which enabled the design of a process for the treatment of 52 kg/s of PS using 0.75 kg/s of ethanol and 2.4 kg/s of D-limonene once the stationary state had been reached. The distillation column is six-stage, with a reflux ratio of 1.5 and duties of 30,000 and −25 847 kW for the condenser and reboiler, respectively.

The partial replacement effect of Portland cement by geothermal nano-SiO2 waste (GNSW) for sustainable Portland-cement-based concrete was investigated to improve the properties of concrete exposed at high critical temperatures. Portland cement was partially replaced by 20 and 30 wt.% of GNSW. The partial replacement effect on Portland-cement-based concrete subjected to 350, 550, and 750 °C was evaluated by measuring the weight changes, ultrasonic pulse velocity, thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis, X-ray diffraction, surface inspection, and scanning electron microscopy under residual conditions. The ultrasonic pulse velocity results showed that the GNSW specimens maintained suitable stability after being heated to 350 °C. The SEM analysis revealed a denser microstructure for the 20 wt.% of partial replacement of Portland cement by GNSW specimen compared to the reference concrete when exposed to temperatures up to 400 °C, maintaining stability in its microstructure. The weight losses were higher for the specimens with partial replacements of GNSW than the reference concrete at 550 °C, which can be attributed to the pozzolanic activity presented by the GNSW, which increases the amounts of CSH gel, leading to a much denser cementitious matrix, causing a higher weight loss compared to the reference concrete. GNSW is a viable supplementary cementitious material, enhancing thermal properties up to 400 °C due to its high pozzolanic activity and filler effect while offering environmental benefits by reducing industrial waste.

Controlling the spread of COVID-19 requires individuals to adopt preventive behaviours, but conspiracy beliefs about its origin are spreading. The aim of this paper is to better comprehend the strength of conspiracy beliefs versus objective COVID-19 information to predict people’s adherence to protective behaviours (getting vaccinated, being tracked through APPs, and keeping social distance from infected people). Study 1 shows that COVID-19 implicit theories detected in the Pre-study were activated as independent factors that constitute people’s interpretations of the virus origin. These beliefs were related to a lesser intention to engage in preventive behaviours and a higher level of mistrust in institutional information, although some beliefs generate positive expectations about COVID-19 consequences. In Study 2, conducted with a different sample, official COVID-19 information was included as an independent variable, but this new variable did not further explain results. Lastly, Study 3 consisting of both previous samples confirmed that conspiracy beliefs had a direct effect on a lesser willingness to engage in preventive actions, a higher mistrust, and positive expectations about COVID-19 consequences. We conclude that objective COVID-19 information did not buffer the effect of conspiracy beliefs; they interfere with actions to prevent it by taking institutions as scapegoats or complicit with secret powers.

Medicine - Abstract
Objective This study aimed to estimate the incidence of giant cell arteritis (GCA) in Spain and to analyse its clinical manifestations, and distribution by age group, sex, geographical area and season. Methods We included all patients diagnosed with GCA between 1 June 2013 and 29 March 2019 at 26 hospitals of the National Health System. They had to be aged ≥50 years and have at least one positive results in an objective diagnostic test (biopsy or imaging techniques), meet 3/5 of the 1990 American College of Rheumatology classification criteria or have a clinical diagnosis based on the expert opinion of the physician in charge. We calculated incidence rate using Poisson regression and assessed the influence of age, sex, geographical area and season. Results We identified 1675 cases of GCA with a mean age at diagnosis of 76.9±8.3 years. The annual incidence was estimated at 7.42 (95% CI 6.57 to 8.27) cases of GCA per 100 000 people ≥50 years with a peak for patients aged 80–84 years (23.06 (95% CI 20.89 to 25.4)). The incidence was greater in women (10.06 (95% CI 8.7 to 11.5)) than in men (4.83 (95% CI 3.8 to 5.9)). No significant differences were found between geographical distribution and incidence throughout the year (p=0.125). The phenotypes at diagnosis were cranial in 1091 patients, extracranial in 337 patients and mixed in 170 patients. Conclusions This is the first study to estimate the incidence of GCA in Spain at a national level. We found a predominance among women and during the ninth decade of life with no clear variability according to geographical area or seasons of the year.

Introduction and Objectives: It is estimated that 71 million people live with chronic hepatitis C viral infection (HCV). Part of the comorbidities associated with cirrhosis is frailty. Remarkably, diet is highly important in the management of cirrhosis and liver diseases. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the quality of the diet in this population. In this context, we evaluated the frailty and quality of the diet in patients with chronic HCV infection with or without cirrhosis, as well as the association between demographic, clinical, and anthropometric variables. Materials and Patients: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the hepatitis clinic of the Civil Hospital of Guadalajara Fray Antonio Alcalde. Each participant was required to complete the Liver Frailty index (LFI) which include hand grip strength, chair stand test and balance test. Additionally, the mini survey was applied to evaluate the quality of food consumption (Mini-ECCA v.2). This questionnaire includes 14 questions, each with 3 or 4 response options on a Likert scale. The outcome yields three classifications: “healthy food intake, habit to be improved, and unhealthy food intake.'' Finally, upper arm anthropometry was performed. P< 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: A preliminary sample of 20 patients was assessed. Of them, 60% (n=12) had only chronic HCV infection, 85% (n=17) of LFI were considered pre-fragile, while the rest of the participants were classified as fragile. The quality of the diet, 65% (n=13), was considered “a habit to be improved.” A relationship was found between the quality of the diet and LFI. Likewise, a negative correlation was also found between the mean arm muscle circumference (MAMC) and the LFI score (r=-0.577; p=0.008) as well as MAMC and time in chair supports (r=-0.504;p=0.023). In addition, we found a positive correlation between the MAMC and hand grip strength (r=-0.624; p=0.003). Conclusions: Some degree of frailty was found in the participants, and the quality of the diet was found to be “a habit to be improved” in most of the population sample.

The path-integral representation of Smoluchowski equation is exploited to explore the stochastic dynamics of a tagged Brownian particle within an interacting system where hydrodynamic effects are neglected. In particular, this formalism is applied to a particle system confined to a one-dimensional infinite line aiming to investigate the single-file diffusion phenomenon in this scenario. In particular, the path-integral method is contrasted against the standard many-particle Langevin equation for a system of interacting Brownian particles in a harmonic chain model, exhibiting excellent agreement; in this case of study a formula defined on the whole time-scale for the mean-square displacement, in the thermodynamic limit, is found for the tracer particle in terms of Bessel functions, recovering also the single-file regime. Additionally, a Brownian particle system with paramagnetic interactions is considered near crystallization where the total interaction potential is roughly a harmonic potential. Taking advantage of the path-integral formalism a simple perturbation treatment is carried out to investigate the single file diffusion behavior when temperature is increased away from the crystal phase., Comment: 27 pages, 2 figures

Excess weight and obesity have high prevalence rates globally and are associated with significant morbidity and mortality rates. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, telehealth emerged as an effective tool for promoting healthy behaviours in the management of chronic conditions. This study employed a three-month quasi-experimental design with pre- and post-intervention measurements, assessing the progress of 82 adults assigned either to an intervention group (IG) or a control group (CG). A total of 66 participants completed the study, with 33 in each group. The IG had access to a telehealth-based platform providing educational content on healthy lifestyle habits and were followed up both in-person and remotely. The CG were monitored as usual, i.e., at their primary care nurses’ discretion. The IG exhibited a statistically significant reduction in weight, BMI, and abdominal circumference, along with improved adherence to a heart-healthy diet, specifically the Mediterranean diet, and higher levels of physical activity. The nurse-led intervention (Care4US+), utilising telehealth from primary care, has proven effective in enhancing healthy behaviours and reducing cardiovascular risk factors.

Escalating global surface temperatures are highlighting the urgent need for energy-saving solutions. Phase-change materials (PCMs) have emerged as a promising avenue for enhancing thermal comfort in the construction sector. This study assessed the impact of incorporating PCMs ranging from 1% to 10% by mass into composite Portland cement partially replaced by fly ash (FA) and nanosilica particles (NS). Mechanical and electrochemical techniques were utilized to evaluate composite cements. The results indicate that the presence of PCMs delayed cement hydration, acting as a filler without chemically interacting within the composite. The combination of FA and PCMs reduced compressive strength at early ages, while thermal conductivity decreased after 90 days due to the melting point and the latent heat of PCMs. Samples with FA and NS showed a significant reduction in the CO2 penetration, attributed to their pozzolanic and microfiller effects, as well as reduced water absorption due to the non-absorptive nature of PCMs. Nitrogen physisorption confirmed structural changes in the cement matrix. Additionally, electrical resistivity and thermal behavior assessments revealed that PCM-containing samples could reduce temperatures by an average of 4 °C. This suggested that PCMs could be a viable alternative for materials with thermal insulation capacity, thereby contributing to energy efficiency in the construction sector.

Accurate observation of precipitation data is crucial for hydrometeorological applications, requiring temporal and spatial precision. Satellite precipitation products offer a promising solution for obtaining precipitation estimates, facilitating long-term observations from global to local scales. However, assessing their accuracy compared to rain gauge observations is essential. This study aims to assess the accuracy and applicability of precipitation data from CMORPH, IMERG, and PERSIANN CCS in the Rio Grande–San Juan Basin in northeast Mexico. The evaluation of estimated precipitation was assessed using the Pearson and Spearman correlations, RMSE, MAE, and BIAS for both monthly and yearly averages. CMORPH showed minimal errors and low underestimation, while IMERG exhibited high correlations with consistent underestimation. PERSIANN CCS had lower correlations, significant overestimation, and higher errors. The Mann–Kendall (MK) test was used to determinate the precipitation trends of observed and estimated data. The observed data showed a significant positive trend in monthly averages, which is not reflected in the annual trend. Furthermore, negative annual trends were found in at least 10 stations across the basin. The application of satellite precipitation data yielded mixed outcomes, with CMORPH showing the highest level of agreement with the trend analysis results from rain gauge data. This demonstrates its reliability for weather and climate studies and suggests the potential for CMORPH to be used as an input in hydrological modeling.

Hot springs worldwide can be a source of extremophilic microorganisms of biotechnological interest. In this study, samplings of a hot spring in Hidalgo, Mexico, were conducted to isolate, identify, and characterize morphologically, biochemically, and molecularly those bacterial strains with potential industrial applications. In addition, a physicochemical and geochemical examination of the hot spring was conducted to fully understand the study region and its potential connection to the strains discovered. The hot spring was classified as sulfate-calcic according to the Piper Diagram; the hydrogeochemical analysis showed the possible interactions between minerals and water. Eighteen bacterial strains were isolated with optimal growth temperatures from 50 to 55 °C. All strains are Gram-positive, the majority having a rod shape, and one a round shape, and 17 produce endospores. Hydrolysis tests on cellulose, pectin, and xylan agar plates demonstrated enzymatic activity in some of the strains. Molecular identification through the 16S rDNA gene allowed classification of 17 strains within the Phylum Firmicutes and one within Deinococcus-Thermus. The bacterial strains were associated with the genera Anoxybacillus, Bacillus, Anerunibacillus, Paenibacillus, and Deinococcus, indicating a diversity of bacterial strains with potential industrial applications.

Citrulline (C6H13N3O3) is an amino acid found in the body as a zwitterion. This means its carboxylic and amine groups can act as Lewis donors to chelate metal cations. In addition, citrulline possesses a terminal ureido group on its aliphatic chain, which also appears to coordinate. Here, two new mixed complexes of citrulline were made with 1,10-phenanthroline and 2,2′-bipyridine. These compounds, once dissolved in water, gave aquo-complexes that were subject to DFT studies and in vitro toxicity studies on cancer cell lines (HeLa, MDA-MB-231, HCT 15, and MCF7) showed promising results. Docking studies with DNA were also conducted, indicating potential anticancer properties.

Ventricular fibrillation (VF) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the main cause of deaths occurring in the acute phase of an ischemic event. Although it is known that genetics may play an important role in this pathology, the possible role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) has never been studied. Therefore, the aim of this work is to study the expression of 10 lncRNAs in patients with and without VF in AMI. For this purpose, the expression of CDKN2B-AS1, KCNQ1OT1, LIPCAR, MALAT1, MIAT, NEAT1, SLC16A1-AS1, lnc-TK2-4:2, TNFRSF14-AS1, and UCA1 were analyzed. After the analysis and Bonferroni correction, the lncRNA CDKN2B-AS showed a statistical significance lower expression (P values of 2.514 x 10-5). In silico analysis revealed that six proteins could be related to the possible effect of lncRNA CDKN2B-AS1: AGO3, PLD4, POU4F1, ZNF26, ZNF326 and ZNF431. These in silico proteins predicted to have a low cardiac expression, although there is no literature indicating a potential relationship with VF in AMI. Thus, the lncRNA CDKN2B-AS1 shows a significant lower expression in patients with VF in AMI vs patients without VF in AMI. Literature data suggest that the role of CDKN2B1-AS is related to the miR-181a/SIRT1 pathway.

In the present work, a mathematical model is developed to describe the heat, mass, and momentum transfer of a biphasic flow during its trajectory in the absorber tube of a parabolic trough solar concentrator (PTSC) for thermal processes in a transitory simulation, showing the evolution of the parameters in a dynamic system. The working fluid is water. The numerical solution of the model is implemented in C++ code. The model is validated with the results obtained from the DISS Project experiment. The results of the numerical solution have a maximum variation in the fluid temperature profile of 6.45 % and a maximum difference of 2.02 % in the outlet pressure of the fluid with respect to the experimental results. The case study consists of the analysis of a PTSC under different radiation conditions from two different cities in Mexico, Piedras Negras and Mexico City, on an average spring day. The results obtained allow us to analyze the behavior of the fluid temperature, the quality of the steam, and pressure drop through the absorber tube and time; under the conditions studied, the concentrator reached an efficiency of 52 %. It is observed that the model is sensitive to changes in climate.

Poverty is a multidimensional phenomenon that encompasses privation of education, health or housing. Women show more positive perceptions of poor people, making external attributions for the causes of poverty or the circumstances that explain it. The aim of this study is to analyse perceptions of poverty, identifying the differences in attitudinal profiles between women and men, and the influence of their political and religious beliefs. The sample consists of 278 participants (154 women and 124 men), who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Scale of Attitudes and Stereotypes toward Poverty. The results showed two attitude profiles for women and men, with differences in the first profile, where women or men did not have religious beliefs, had left-wing or centre-left political ideas and favourable attitudes about poverty.

ABSTRACT Introduction and objectives: Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) was first introduced in 2007 as an alternative to open heart surgery to treat patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis (sSAS) with various indication expansions since that date. Recently, the PARTNER 3 study (Placement of aortic transcatheter valve) demonstrated clinical benefits with TAVI with the SAPIEN 3 valve vs surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) in selected low surgical mortality risk patients. We reviewed data from the PARTNER 3 and economic data from Spain to assess the cost-effectiveness ratio of TAVI vs SAVR in patients with sSAS and low surgical mortality risk. Methods: A 2-stage model was used to estimate direct healthcare costs and health-related quality of life data regarding TAVI with the SAPIEN 3 valve and SAVR. Early adverse events associated with TAVI from the PARTNER 3 were fed into a Markov model that captured longer-term outcomes after TAVI or SAVR. Results: TAVI with SAPIEN 3 improved quality-adjusted life years per patient (+ 1.00) with an increase in costs vs SAVR (€6971 per patient). This meant an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio/quality-adjusted life year of €6952 per patient. The results were robust with TAVI with the SAPIEN 3 valve remaining cost-effective across several sensitivity analyses. Conclusions: TAVI with the SAPIEN 3 valve is cost effective compared to SAVR in patients with sSAS and low surgical mortality risk. These findings can inform policymakers to facilitate policy development in Spain on intervention selection in this patient population.

Sudden cardiac death due to ventricular fibrillation (VF) during ST-elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEAMI) significantly contributes to cardiovascular-related deaths. Although VF has been linked to genetic factors, variations in copy number variation (CNV), a significant source of genetic variation, have remained largely unexplored in this context. To address this knowledge gap, this study performed whole exome sequencing analysis on a cohort of 39 patients with STEAMI who experienced VF, aiming to elucidate the role of CNVs in this pathology. The analysis revealed CNVs in the form of duplications in the PARP2 and TTC5 genes as well as CNVs in the form of deletions in the MUC15 and PPP6R1 genes, which could potentially serve as risk indicators for VF during STEAMI. The analysis also underscores notable CNVs with an average gene copy number equal to or greater than four in DEFB134, FCGR2C, GREM1, PARM1, SCG5, and UNC79 genes. These findings provide further insight into the role of CNVs in VF in the context of STEAMI.

In this paper we will analyse how queer gender desires and expressions are cinematically articulated in Lucía Puenzo’s El niño pez. For this purpose, we will study the relationship between Lala (Inés Efrón) and her family's Guaraní domestic servant, Ailín (Mariela Vitale). We will implement a methodological approach anchored in the concepts of haptic visuality (Marks 2002) and interseccionality (Crenshaw 1989). Although El niño pez presents certain identitarian undefinitions linked to queerness, we will demonstrate that the construction of Lala's character points to certain stereotypes related to the filmic representation of lesbianism.

Abstract We study the particle content of higher derivative theories of gravity built with contractions of the Riemann tensor and its covariant derivatives. In the absence of the latter, there is a family of theories exhibiting an Einsteinian spectrum known as generalized quasi-topological gravities. In turn, we present a no-go result for the construction of Einsteinian gravities involving covariant derivatives of the Riemann tensor. We find evidences suggesting that (truncated series) finite order Lagrangians with covariant derivatives of the Riemann tensor generically present ghosts in their spectrum. This might be interpreted as a hint of non-locality in any healthy UV completion of General Relativity.

POLICAN is a near-infrared imaging linear polarimeter developed for the Cananea Near-infrared Camera (CANICA) at the 2.1m telescope of the Guillermo Haro Astrophysical Observatory (OAGH) located in Cananea, Sonora, Mexico. POLICAN is mounted ahead of CANICA and consist of a rotating super-achromatic 1-2.7 micron half-wave plate (HWP) as the modulator and a fixed wire-grid polarizer as the analyzer. CANICA has a 1024 x 1024 HgCdTe detector with a plate scale of 0.32 arcsec/pixel and provides a field of view of 5.5 x 5.5 arcmin^2. The polarimetric observations are carried out by modulating the incoming light through different steps of half-wave plate angles 0, 22.5, 45, 67.5 deg, to establish linear Stokes parameters (I, Q, and U). Image reduction consists of dark subtraction, polarimetric flat fielding, and sky subtraction. The astrometry and photometric calibrations are performed using the publicly available data from the Two Micron All Sky Survey. Polarimetric calibration includes observations of globular clusters and polarization standards available in the literature. Analysis of multiple observations of globular clusters yielded an instrumental polarization of 0.51%. Uncertainties in polarization range from 0.1% to 10% from the brightest 7 mag to faintest 16 mag stars. The polarimetric accuracy achieved is better than 0.5% and the position angle errors less than 5 deg for stars brighter than 13 mag in H-band. POLICAN is mainly being used to study the scattered polarization and magnetic fields in and around star-forming regions of the interstellar medium., Comment: Accepted for PASP, 23 pages

Stochastic resonance is a phenomenon in which noise enhances the response of a system to an input signal. The brain is an example of a system that has to detect and transmit signals in a noisy environment, suggesting that it is a good candidate to take advantage of SR. In this work, we aim to identify the optimal levels of noise that promote signal transmission through a simple network model of the human brain. Specifically, using a dynamic model implemented on an anatomical brain network (connectome), we investigate the similarity between an input signal and a signal that has traveled across the network while the system is subject to different noise levels. We find that non-zero levels of noise enhance the similarity between the input signal and the signal that has traveled through the system. The optimal noise level is not unique; rather, there is a set of parameter values at which the information is transmitted with greater precision, this set corresponds to the parameter values that place the system in a critical regime. The multiplicity of critical points in our model allows it to adapt to different noise situations and remain at criticality.

Empleabilidad ,Juventud ,Crisis ,Mercado laboral ,Education - Abstract
