We live in a rapidly changing world where the economy is set to be dominated by the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) industries at the heart of technology advancements, such as engineering and computer science. In Europe, women accounted for almost one-third of the total number of people employed in the high-technology sectors in 2022. Globally, it is estimated that only 20% of engineering graduates are women. Eliminating stereotypical prejudices in engineering and supporting young girls who wish to study and work in STEM fields are key factors for the future. There are some “unconscious bias" that deters girls from pursuing STEM studies. For example, many young women, as well as their families and teachers, consider engineering to be more typical of men than women since they consider it hard and dirty. In fact, it is associated with heavy machinery that implies a need for physical strength and resistance. And, what's worse, many girls consider that it is not really useful to society. Girls at home and at school are less likely than their brothers to be encouraged to become an engineer, unless there is a significant connection in their immediate family or social group. Therefore, it is important to tackle bias among girls’ families and communities and removing stigma surrounding women in STEM. The Higher Polytechnic School at the University of Alicante (Spain) has developed a program focused on overcoming barriers to STEM degrees for girls. The “Quiero Ser Ingeniera” program has already held three editions and has the support of the university and external companies. It has two main activities: a presentation in the university auditorium attended about a thousand students (15-16 years old) and four different thematic campus attended by around a hundred girls interested in STEM degrees. Despite efforts to achieve gender equity in all aspects of society as one of the Sustainable Development Goals, there is still a gender gap in the number of professionals graduating from Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers: graduated women do not exceed 30%. In particular, the percentage of women earning degrees in engineering has remained stable at 20% for over 20 years in the United States and other countries, thus being a global situation. The percentage of undergraduate women in different engineering programs varies from a high of about 50% in fields such as environmental engineering and biomedical engineering, to a low of about 13% for computer engineering. With this approach, many Spanish universities began to develop activities to encourage vocations towards these technical degrees around the 2018-19 academic year, among them the University of Alicante. These activities are intended for high school students and consist of meetings to see, touch and experiment engineering and conferences with leading female engineers. The purpose of this study was to find out whether there is a change in trend in recent years in the enrolment of women in engineering and architecture programs in the University of Alicante, especially since actions to promote vocations began. Data from 5035 students enrolled in different engineering and architecture programs from 2018-19 to 2023-24 academic years were collected from the information system of the institution and compared to data from a previous study carried out with 25061 students from 1972-73 to 2017-18 (being 22% of them women, as expected). Data were processed differentiating by degree program, gender and academic year. As a result, the percentage of women in engineering and architecture has increased to 30% taking into account the total number of students during the last 6 years. The valorisation of CO2 through its capture and in-situ hydrogenation to methane, using dual function materials (DFMs), emerges as promising alternative to reduce CO2 emissions to atmosphere and the global cost of current CO2 Capture and Utilization (CCU) technology. This work investigates the viability of LaNiO3-derived formulations as precursors of DFMs for CO2 capture and in-situ conversion to CH4. For this purpose, a set of DFMs obtained from 30% LaNiO3/CeO2, 30% LaNiO3/Al2O3, 30% LaNiO3/La-Al2O3 and LaNiO3 precursors were synthesized and systematically characterized before and after a controlled reduction process. Results of XRD analysis, STEM-EDX images, H-2-TPR and CO2-TPD experiments reveal that the DFM obtained after reduction of 30% LaNiO3/CeO2 formulation shows the smallest Ni-0 particle size (7 nm) and the highest medium-strong basic sites concentration. In fact, this DFM widens operation window with methane production ranging between 80 and 103 mu mol g(-1) and maintains a selectivity towards methane above 90% in the range of 280-520 degrees C. The best catalytic behaviour is related to a better contact between the different nature basic sites and the homogenously distributed Ni-0 sites, which favours a fast spill-over of dissociated H to near CO2 adsorption sites. The applicability of this formulation is further evidenced by a highly stable CH4 production during long-term experiments and a promoted Ni-0/NiO reversibility in the absence/presence of O-2 during the CO2 adsorption period, which allows a fast and complete recovery of CH4 production in absence of O-2. These aspects favour a versatile application of the 30% LaNiO3/CeO2-based DFM formulation to convert CO2 outlet streams from combustion flue gases of different nature.

[Resumen] Introducción: el suicidio es un grave problema de salud pública que se puede prevenir. Los profesionales de enfermería intervienen en el manejo de la situación ante pacientes con riesgo de suicidio y están en posición de identificar esta problemática y establecer intervenciones eficaces. Objetivos: determinar la existencia de la actuación de enfermería en el tratamiento de las personas con riesgo de suicidio, así como conocer cuáles son los tipos de intervención enfermera, los ámbitos de actuación y las barreras que dificultan a los profesionales de enfermería la prestación de cuidados a pacientes con riesgo de suicidio. Metodología: búsqueda bibliográfica en diferentes bases de datos y otros recursos electrónicos de artículos publicados en los últimos cinco años. Teniendo en cuenta los objetivos y los criterios de inclusión, se seleccionaron 16 artículos finales para su revisión. Discusión: la actuación enfermera está presente en el tratamiento de pacientes con riesgo de suicidio y algunas de las intervenciones realizadas son la escucha activa, el acuerdo con el paciente, el apoyo a la familia, el mantenimiento de un entorno seguro… Por otro lado, las acciones de las enfermeras ante pacientes con riesgo de suicidio se pueden dar en diferentes ámbitos como los servicios de urgencias, hospitales psiquiátricos, escuelas, atención primaria, etc. Finalmente, existen varias barreras percibidas por las enfermeras en su práctica diaria, relacionada con el cuidado de pacientes con riesgo de suicidio, como son la falta de formación específica, la ausencia de tiempo, la sobrecarga de trabajo, el estigma hacia la salud mental… Conclusiones: las enfermeras desempeñan un papel importante en el tratamiento de los pacientes con riesgo de suicidio. É necesario que estes profesionais reciban maior formación acerca do manexo de ditos pacientes., [Abstract] Introduction: suicide is a serious public health issue that can be prevented. Nurses take part in the management of the situation with patients at risk of suicide and they are in a position to identify this problem and establish effective interventions. Objectives: to determine the existence of nursing action in the treatment of people at risk of suicide, as well as to know what are the types of nursing intervention, the scopes of action and the barriers that make it difficult for nurses to provide care to patients at risk of suicide. Methodology: bibliographic search in different databases and other electronic resources of articles published in the last five years. Considering the objectives and the inclusion criteria, 16 final articles were selected for review. Discussion: nursing intervention is involved in the treatment of patients at risk of suicide and some of the interventions carried out are active listening, agreement with the patient, support for the family, maintenance of a safe environment… On the other hand, the actions of nurses with patients at risk of suicide can occur in different scopes such as emergency services, psychiatric hospitals, schools, primary care, etc. Finally, there are several barriers perceived by nurses in their daily practice, related to the care of patients at risk of suicide, such as lack of specific training, lack of time, work overload, stigma towards mental health… Conclusion: nurses execute an important role in the treatment of patients at risk of suicide. It is necessary that these professionals receive more training about the management of these patients.

Tras las practicas realizadas he podido constatar como el departamento de informática consume gran cantidad de horas no lectivas realizando mantenimiento o reparación de tablets y ordenadores a los diferentes departamentos del instituto y aulas. Las llamadas horas TIC. Por lo que mi TFM pretende la reducción de dichas horas con el empleo de estándares de gestión empleados en la empresa privada. Consiste en centralizar el software y sistemas operativos en un servidor Ansible, creando distintos perfiles de configuración en función de las peculiaridades distintivas que pueda tener o no cada departamento.

We previously showed that fluorizoline, a fluorinated thiazoline compound, binds to both subunits of the mitochondrial prohibitin (PHB) complex, PHB1 and PHB2, being the expression of these proteins required for fluorizoline-induced apoptosis in mouse embryonic fibroblasts. To investigate the conservation of this apoptotic mechanism, we studied the effect of PHB downregulation on fluorizoline activity on two human cell lines, HEK293T and U2OS. Then, we asked whether PHBs mediate the effect of fluorizoline in a multicellular organism. Interestingly, reduced levels of PHBs in the human cells impaired the induction of apoptosis by fluorizoline. We observed that fluorizoline has a detrimental dose-dependent effect on the development and survival of the nematode model Caenorhabditis elegans. Besides, such effects of fluorizoline treatment in living nematodes were absent in PHB mutants. Finally, we further explored the apoptotic pathway triggered by fluorizoline in human cell lines. We found that the BH3-only proteins NOXA, BIM and PUMA participate in fluorizoline-induced apoptosis and that the induction of NOXA and PUMA is dependent on PHB expression.
