Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the GenoType®MTBDRplus test for detection of rifampicin (RIF) resistance in MDR Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex strains. Materials and Methods: Twenty-five multidrug-resistant (MDR) Mycobacterium tuberculosis clinical strains were used, gene mutations causing RIF resistance were investigated by GenoType®MTBDRplus and the results were compared with the results of the BACTEC 460 TB system. The strain was sequenced if there was no mutation and absence Wild Type (WT). Mycobacterium tuberculosis ATCC 35838 was used as a quality control (QC) strain. Results: There was 96% compliance between the GenoType®MTBDRplus and BACTEC 460 TB system for the finding of RIF resistance. The most frequent mutation zone in MDR strains was rpoB S531L promotor zone (13 strains, 52%). The other rpoB gene mutations were H526Y (three strains, 12%) and H526D (three strains, 12%), while five strains (20%) had Δ2-Δ5 mutations in the wild type probes. There was no mutation in only one strain (4%) by GenoType®MTBDRplus but it was found to be as resistant to rifampicin by the BACTEC 460 TB system. This strain was sequenced and detected to have triple mutations. Mutations were found on codons 489, 493, and 503. Conclusion: GenoType®MTBDRplus showed good compatibility with the BACTEC 460 TB system in detecting rifampicin resistance, and it was thought that GenoType®MTBDRplus could be an effective and reliable test for RIF susceptibility testing in MDRTB patients, providing a significant advantage in technical time., Amaç: Bu çalışmada, çoğul ilaca dirençli (ÇİD) Mycobacterium tuberculosis kompleks suşlarında rifampisin (RIF) direncinin saptanmasında GenoType®MTBDRplus testinin değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntem: Yirmi beş ÇİD Mycobacterium tuberculosis klinik suşu kullanılmış, RIF direncine neden olan gen mutasyonları GenoType®MTBDRplus ile araştırılmış ve sonuçlar BACTEC 460 TB sistemi sonuçları ile karşılaştırılmıştır. Eğer mutasyon veya Vahşi Tip (VT) bandı yoksa suş sekanslanmıştır. Kalite kontrol (QC) suşu olarak Mycobacterium tuberculosis ATCC 35838 kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Rifampisin direncinin saptanmasında GenoType®MTBDRplus ve BACTEC 460 TB sistemi arasında %96 uyum bulunmuştur. ÇİD suşlarda mutasyonun en sık rpoB S531L promotor bölgede (13 suş, %52) olduğu görülmüştür. Diğer rpoB gen mutasyonları H526Y (üç suş, %12) ve H526D (üç suş, %12) bölgesinde iken, beş suşta (%20) vahşi tip problarında Δ2-Δ5 mutasyonları saptanmıştır. Bir suşta (%4) GenoType®MTBDRplus ile mutasyon bulunamamış, ancak BACTEC 460 TB sistemi ile rifampisine dirençli olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu suş sekanslanmış, 489, 493 ve 503 kodonlarında üçlü mutasyona sahip olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sonuç: Rifampisin direncinin saptanmasında GenoType®MTBDRplus, BACTEC 460 TB sistemi ile iyi uyum göstermiştir ve ÇİDTB hastalarında RIF duyarlılık testi için GenoType®MTBDRplus’ın etkili ve güvenilir bir test olabileceği ve bunun teknik zaman açısından da önemli bir avantaj sağlayacağı düşünülmüştür.

Çalışmanınamacı, Tıp ve sağlık bilimleri eğitiminde öğrenci merkezli yaklaşım, öğrenmetercihlerinin çalışılmasını önemli kılmaktadır. Çalışmamızda, SANKOÜniversitesi öğrencilerinin öğrenme tercihlerinde, disiplinler arası, sınıflararası, cinsiyet bakımından fark bulunup bulunmadığının belirlenmesiamaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca, başarılı olan ve olmayan öğrencilerin öğrenmetercihlerinin farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığı araştırılmıştır. Bu kesitselçalışmaya SANKO Üniversitesi Sağlık Bilimleri Fakültesi Fizyoterapi veRehabilitasyon Bölümü, Beslenme ve Diyetetik bölümü, Hemşirelik Bölümü ile TıpFakültesi öğrencileri dahil edilmiştir. Çalışma 2018-2019 eğitim-öğretim yılıbahar döneminde yapılmıştır. Öğrenme tercihlerinin belirlenmesinde VARK [Görsel(Visual), İşitsel (Aural), Okuma-yazma (Read-write), Kinestetik (Dokunsal),(Kinesthetic)] anketi kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya 851 öğrenci dahil edilmiştir.Dahil edilen öğrencilerin 169’u (%19,9) Fizyoterapi ve Rehabilitasyon Bölümü,193’ü (%22,7) Beslenme ve Diyetetik Bölümü, 192’si (%22,6) Hemşirelik, 297’si(%34,9) Tıp Fakültesi öğrencileridir. Öğrenme tercihleri bakımından disiplinlerarasında fark bulunmamıştır (p=0,081). Tüm bölümlerde en yüksek orandakinestetik öğrenmenin tercih edildiği tespit edilmiştir. Cinsiyetlere göreöğrenme tercihlerinde fark bulunmamıştır (p=0,106). Kadın ve erkek öğrencilerdeen yüksek oranda kinestetik öğrenmenin tercih edildiği görülmüştür. TıpFakültesi (p=0,202), Fizyoterapi ve Rehabilitasyon Bölümü (p=0,373), Beslenmeve Diyetetik Bölümü (p=0,165) ve Hemşirelik Bölümü (p=0,514) öğrencilerininsınıfları bakımından öğrenme tercihlerinde fark bulunmamıştır. Sonuç olarak,öğrencilerin öğrenme tercihlerinin bilinmesinin, SANKO Üniversitesieğitimcileri için eğitim kalitesinin arttırılmasında önemli bir veri olarakkullanılacağı öngörülmektedir., Thestudent-centered approach in medical and health sciences education makes thestudy of learning preferences important. In this study, it was aimed todetermine the learning preferences of students of SANKO University,interdisciplinary, inter-class and gender differences. In addition, thedifferences between successful and non-successful learning styles of thesestudents were investigated. In this cross-sectional study, SANKO UniversityFaculty of Health Sciences, Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation,Nutrition and Dietetics, Nursing and Faculty of Medicine students wereincluded. In order to determine the preferred learning preferences, VARK(Visual, Auditory, Read-write, Kinesthetic) questionnaire were used. 851students were included in the study (169 (19.9%) were in Physiotherapy andRehabilitation, 193 (22.7%) in Nutrition and Dietetics, 192 (22.6%) in Nursing,297 (34.9%) in Faculty of Medicine). There was no difference betweendisciplines in terms of learning preferences (p = 0.081). The highest rate ofkinesthetic learning was preferred in all departments. There was no differencein learning preferences according to gender (p = 0.106). It was observed thatthe highest rate of kinesthetic learning was preferred in male and femalestudents. The Faculty of Medicine (p = 0,202), Department of Physiotherapy andRehabilitation (p = 0,373), Department of Nutrition and Dietetics (p = 0,165)and Nursing Department (p = 0,514) were not found any difference in learningpreferences in terms of students' classes. As a result; we anticipate thatstudents' learning preferences will be used as an important data in increasingthe quality of education for SANKO University educators.

Cervicogenic headache (CH) is one of the secondary headaches caused by cervical region problems. In this case study, cervical mobilization techniques were applied to a 40-year-old female patient with CH and body mass index (BMI) of 26.5 kg/m². In the baseline, pain intensity, muscle stiffness, range of motion (ROM) degrees of neck joints, and head-neck artery flow volume were measured by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), universal goniometer, elastography and Doppler ultrasound, respectively. All evaluations were repeated after the application in order to observe the acute effect of the application. In our case study in which we examined the acute effect of cervical mobilization in CH, 3.3 cm reduction in pain intensity by VAS, an increase of 5-10° in cervical ROM, an increase in arterial blood flow and a reduction in muscle stiffness were observed., Servikojenik baş ağrısı (SBA), servikal bölge problemlerine bağlı ortaya çıkan ikincil baş ağrılarından biridir. Bu vaka çalışmasında 40 yaşında, vücut kütle indeksi (VKİ) 26,5 kg/m² olan SBA’lı bir kadın hastaya servikal mobilizasyon teknikleri uygulandı. Tedavi öncesi ağrı şiddeti Görsel Analog Skalası (GAS) ile, boyun normal eklem hareket (NEH) açıklık dereceleriUniversal Gonyometre ile, kas sertliği elastografi ile, ve baş-boyun arter akım volümü Doppler ultrason ile değerlendirildi. Uygulamanın akut etkisini gözlemlemek amacı ile bütün değerlendirmeler uygulama sonrası tekrarlandı. SBA’da servikal mobilizasyonun akut etkisinin incelendiği vaka çalışmamızda; ağrı şiddetinde GAS’a göre 3,3 cm azalma, servikal NEHaçıklıklarında 5-10° arasında değişen artış, arteriyel kan akımlarında artış ve kas sertliklerinde azalma gözlendi.

In this study, the unique solvability and numerical solution of coupled sine Gordon equations is considered. The variational method is implemented to obtain unique weak solution. A new hybrid numerical method which combines finite difference method and fixed point iteration is used to solve the generalized form of coupled sine-Gordon equations. The novel first order of accuracy stable difference scheme is employed with a fixed point iteration for the approximate solution of the nonlinear coupled system. Numerical experiments are presented with error analysis, to verify the accuracy of the proposed method.

Bu çalışma omuz-boyun postür problemi olan yetişkin hastalarda klinik pilates egzersizlerinin postüre etkisinin belirlenmesi amacıyla planlandı. Çalışmaya baş anterior tilt, omuz protraksiyon postürü olan 51 kişi dahil edildi ve randomize olarak klinik pilates grubu (Grup 1, n=26) ve klasik postür egzersiz grubu (Grup 2, n=25) olarak 2 gruba ayrıldı. Hastaların özgeçmiş ve demografik bilgileri kaydedildi. Derin boyun fleksör kas kuvveti ve endurans ölçümünde Basınçlı Biyofeedback Ünitesi (BBÜ) kullanıldı. Baş, boyun ve omuz postür mesafe ölçümü olarak duvar-tragus, duvar-akromion, çene-sternal çentik, akromion-tragus mesafe ölçümleri, omuz bölgesi esneklik ölçümü için sırt kaşıma testi kullanıldı. Çalışmada 6 hafta boyunca servikal ve omuz kuşağı bölgesine özel 1. gruba klinik pilates egzersizleri, 2. gruba ise klasik postür egzersizleri uygulandı. Değerlendirmeler tedavi öncesi ve 6 hafta sonrasında yapıldı. Yapılan egzersiz uygulamaları sonucunda grup içi karşılaştırmalarda duvar- akromion, çene ucu- sternal çentik, duvar-tragus mesafe ölçümlerinde klinik pilates grubu yönünde anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p< 0,05). Gruplar arası karşılaştırmalarda ise Derin Boyun Fleksör(DBF) kas enduransı, sırt kaşıma testi, duvar-tragus mesafe ölçümünde klinik pilates yönünden anlamlı fark bulunmuştur (p< 0,05). Çalışmamızın sonucunda omuz-boyun postür problemlerinin egzersiz tedavisinde klinik pilatesin klasik postür egzersizlerine göre DBF kas enduransı, omuz kuşağı esnekliği, postür değişimi yönünden daha etkili olduğu görüldü. PurposeTo evaluate the antimicrobial efficiency of three cleaning solutions and their effect on the physical properties of a denture base material.

WOS: 000450066500001 PubMed ID: 30427696 Objectives: This study aims to investigate the effects of T'ai Chi and Gigong (TCQ) training on severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Design: A prospective, 12-week, single-center, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Setting: Sleep Disorders Center of Medical Faculty in Istanbul, Turkey. Subjects: Fifty adult patients with mild and moderate OSA. Interventions: Patients were randomly allocated into either an intervention group or a control group. The intervention group (n=25) received TCQ training under physiotherapist supervision for 1h, three times per week, for 12 weeks and a home exercise program was provided for another 2 days. The control group (n=25) received only a home exercise program for 12 weeks, 5 days per week. Outcome measures: All patients were assessed before and after the exercise program. Objective parameters of sleep were measured by polysomnography, while subjective parameters of sleep were assessed using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) and the 3-factor Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Pulmonary functions were assessed with a pulmonary function test; health-related quality of life was evaluated through the Short Form-36. Results: In the intervention group, there was a statistically significant decrease in the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) (p=0.001) and percentage and duration of stage N2 sleep (p=0.041 and p=0.037, respectively), while there was a statistically significant increase in percentage and duration of stage N3 sleep when compared with the controls (p=0.048 and p=0.043, respectively). There was a statistically significant decrease in the ESS, PSQI sleep efficiency, and total scores (p=0.001, p=0.003, and p=0.003, respectively). Conclusions: Our study results suggest that TCQ training may reduce AHI and daytime sleepiness, while improving subjective sleep quality, in patients with mild and moderate OSA. WOS: 000372804700007, The content of essential oils of endemic Salvia cilicica was analyzed by GC-FID and GC-MS techniques. Spathulenol (23.8 %), caryophyllene oxide (14.9 %) and hexadecanoic acid (10.3 %) were identified as the major components in the oil of Salvia cilicica. Additionally, in this study ethanol extracts of the aerial parts and essential oils of four Salvia species (S. cilicica, S. officinalis, S. fruticosa, S. tomentosa), as well as the roots of S. cilicica were investigated their antimycobacterial and antifungal activities including infectious diseases. The antimycobacterial activity was analyzed against three Mycobacterium tuberculosis (sensitive-, resistant-standard strains and multidrug resistance clinical isolate) strains and the antifungal activity was compared with two dermotophytes (Microsporum gypseum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. erinacei) and three Candida species by the broth microdilution method. The essentials oils of the four tested Salvia species showed high antimycobacterial and antifungal activity (MIC between 0.2-12.5 mcg/mL) in comparison to the aerial parts and root extracts. The antifungal and antimycobacterial potential of the ethanol extracts and essential oils were introduced to determine whether, Salvia species can be used in phytotherapy against the yeasts, dermatophytes and M. tuberculosis. To the best of our knowledge this is the first study of S. cilicica about their antimycobacterial and antifungal activities and chemical composition of its essential oils.
