Retinoic acid in the topical application increases vascularity and stimulates mitotic activity in the skin. Vitamin A increases the collagen synthesis, neoangiogenesis, wound contraction and prevents the reperfusion damage, which arises due to the free radicals in the ischemic flap.In our study, the effects of retinoic acid and vitamin A were researched on increasing the viability of the random pattern caudally pedicled dorsal rat flaps. The viable and non -viable flap areas of tire rats- those which were applied topical retinoic acid and those which were applied oral vitamin A- were compared to the rats in the control group, which weren't applied medication, and the results gained were evaluated. In our study, vitamin A and retinoic acid weren't found useful in increasing the viability of the skin flaps of rats. Vitamin A kollagen sentezini, neoanjiyogenesisi, yara kont-raksiyonunu arttırmakta ve iskemik flepte serbest radikaller ile oluşan reperfüzyon hasarını engellemektedir.Çalışmamızda retinoik asit ve vitamin A'nın rastgele kanlanan kaudal tabanlı dorsal rat flebinin yaşamsallığını arttırmadaki etkisi araştırılmıştır. Topikal retinoik asit ve oral vi-tamin A kullanılan rafların yaşayan ve yaşamayan flep alanları medikasyon verilmeyen kontrol grubu raflar ile karşılaştırılmış ve alman sonuçlar değerlendirilmiştir. Vitamin A ve retinoik asit çalışmamızda ratlarda deri flebi yaşayabilirliğini arttırmada faydalı bulunmamıştır.

A New Hair Graft Canister For Graft-Counting And Preserving in Damp Medium Micrografts. slit grafts and mini grafts are used in hair transplantation. After preparing them, grafts are preserved in a damp medium until transplantation. It is necessary to know the number of the grafts because as many recipient areas (holes) as the grafts are to be prepared.In this study, a new model of the hair graft canister is introduced.

Penetrating head and neck trauma in children causes uncommon and potentially life threating injuries. Penetrating trauma to the head in children is a challenging problem for both the initial evaluating physicians and the surgeons.We reported a patient who had fallen from a tree during cutting vegetables and sustained a penetrating faciocranial injury caused by his knife.Clinical examination showed a knife which had entered his face in the right preauricular, pre temporomandibular joint below zigomatic arc. His left bulbus oculi was exoftalmic and a complet ptosis was present. He was fully conscious. There was complet left visual loss. The other neurologic, ophtalmic and systemic physical evaluations were normal. The Glasgow Coma scale was 14.X-Rays showed that the knife entered the right side of the face in the maxillary sinus below the right orbit and crossed the midline at the sfenoid sinus.It passed through the left optic nerve and stopped anterior of the inferior temporal lobe. The knife did not leave the skull. The circle of Willis, the carotids, brain and the brain stem were intact and there was no sign of bleeding in the brain tissue. Left optic nerve was divided and bul¬bus oculi was exoftalmic. The regular shape of the knife was shown in the cranium. In the operating room, under general anaesthesia via oral tracheal intubation, the knife was extracted by tapping the clamp seized the knife with a surgical hammer via the entry wound. The patient was extubated and monitored in intensive care unit under se¬dation in 24 hours. Bıçak ile Olağandışı Bir Delici Yüz-Baş Yaralanması Olgu BildirimiÇocuklarda delici baş ve boyun yaralanmaları nedenleri nadirdir ve ekseriya hayatı tehdit eden yaralanmalardır. Çocuklarda delici kafa travması hem ilk müdahelede bulunan he-kimler, hemde cerrahlar için cesaret gerektiren bir sorundur.Biz bu yazıda, ağaçtan meyve keserken düşen ve kendi bıçağı ile delici baş-yüz ya-ralanması geçiren bir hasta sunmaktayız.Minik muayene sonucunda, bıçağın hastanın yüzüne; sağ kulak önü, zigomatik arkın altından çene ekleminin önünden girdiği saptandı. Sol göz küresi exoftalmikti ve tam göz kapağı düşüklüğü mevcuttu. Bilinci tam açıktı. Sol tarafta tam görme kaybı vardı. Diğer nörolojik, oftalmik ve sistemik fizik muayene bulguları normaldi. Glasgow koma değerlendirmesi 14'dü.Röntgenogramlara göre, bıçak, yüzün sağ tarafına, sağ orbitanın altından maksiller sinüs içerisine girmekte ve sfenoid sinüsden orta hattı geçmektedir. Bıçak, optik sinirden geçerek, alt temporal lobun ön kısmında durmuştur. Kafatasını terketmemektedir. Wil¬lis dolaşımı, karotisler, beyin ve beyin sapı sağlamdır ve beyin dokusu içerisinde kanama belirtisi yoktur. Sol optik sinir kesilmiş ve göz küresi exoftalmiktir. Bıçağın düzgün yapısı, kranium içerisinde görülmektedir.Bıçak, ameliyathanede oral-trakeal yoldan verilen genel anestezi altında, klemplenerek ve cerrahi çekiç ile klembe vurularak, giriş yerinden dışarıya çıkartıldı. Hasta ekstübe edildi ve sedasyon altında yoğun bakım servisinde 24 saat takip edildi

A New Lipectomy Cannula Adaptor Acquiring the Use of Standard Plastic SyringesIn lipectomy operations with syringes, special cannula systems and special and different syringes which comply with those cannula systems are used. The cost of those special syringes, which are made of plastic, is rather higher than that of standard syringes as they can only be used few times.The cannula adaptor that we have developed .which acquires the use of standard plastic syringes, consist of two pieces. The first piece is the nut for connecting the plastic syringe and the second piece is the system that is used to connect the cannula to the first piece. As the plastic syringe connection nut is a grooved conical system, it can be connected to plastic syringes of all kind and volume. Cannula of all kinds of thickness can also be easily fixed to the socket.The cannula adaptor that we have developed is practical for lipectomy operations and reduces operation costs.Şırınga lipektomi ameliyatlarında özel kanül sistemleri ve bu kanül sistemlerine uyan özel ve farklı şırıngalar kullanılmaktadır. Plastikten imal edilen bu özel şırıngalar, bir kez kullanıldıklanndan dolayı maliyetleri standart şırıngalara göre oldukça yüksektir. Geliştirdiğimiz standart plastik şırınga kullanımını sağlayan lipektomi kanül adaptörü iki parçadan oluşmaktadır. Birinci parça plastik şırınga bağlantı somunu, ikinci parça kanülü birinci parçaya birleştirmeyi sağlayan bağlantı sistemidir. Plastik şınnga bağlantı somunu konik yivli sistem olduğundan dolayı, her çeşit ve hacimdeki plastik şırıngaya takılabilmektedir. Farklı kalınlıklardaki kanüller de kolaylıkla sokete tespit edi¬lebilmektedir.Geliştirdiğimiz kanül adaptörü lipektomi ameliyatlarında kullanışlıdır ve ameliyat ma-liyetini azaltmaktadır.

SUMMARYENDORPHINS AND THE SYNDROME OF STRESS ULCERIn this experiment the relationship between endorphins and the stress ulcer was investigated. The effect of endorphins on gastric acidity, biliary reflux, blood histamine and gastric lesions were investigated experimentally.58 rats were taken and divided into 5 groups. 5 mg/kg Bromsulphalein (BSP) IV was given to each art in order to deterct bile reflux to the stomach. 10 rats were taken as control group. Restraint is applied to 12 rats 4 hours at + 4°C. To other 12 rats an enkephalin analogous D-A!a2-Met5-Enkephelinamide (D-ALA2-MET5-ENK.) is given at a rate of500 !u.g/|ig/hour. Thus, a rise in blood endorphins is achieved by applying endogenous stress to one groop and giving synthetic enkephalin to other group of rats. Another 2 groups of 12 rats received an opiate antogonist noloxone 2 mg/kg/ 2 hours before endogenous stress is applied or D-ALA2-Met3-Enk. is given. So that the effects of endorphins can be prevented. After 4 hours, the pathologic changes in the gastric mucosa were examined in all rats, blood histamine, pH and BSP in gastric juice were determined.In control group gastric pH was found 2.8 ± 0.7. In rats that received stress and D-ALA2-Met5-Enk. it slightly devreased (2.4 ± 0.4, 2.1 ± 0.4). When noloxane is given pH rose again (2.5 + 0.6, 2.4 _+_ 0.2). Only in rats that received D-Ala2-Met5-Enk. the pH differences are found to be statistichally important (P
