Abstract

Premature Ejaculation (PE) is the most prevalent male sexual complaint worldwide. The ability to control the timing of ejaculation is very important to get pleasure and to maintain the couple's sexual health. PE is believed to have a multifactorial etiology which mainly includes psychogenic and biogenic factors. Currently available conventional drugs are based on mere assumptions and their use in PE is considered off-label as they have not been approved by the regulatory bodies. On the other hand, Unani System of Medicine has a holistic approach to the prevention and treatment of diseases and provides a line of treatment for PE which is mainly focused on the internal and external use of specific drugs for the restoration of lost powers, elimination of morbid humor and strengthening of organs, muscles, and nerves. In classical Unani literature, PE/Sur'at-i-Inzaāl are described in detail under the heading of Amraāz-i-Baāh. In the series of drug therapy a polyherbal Unani formulation, Safuūf-i Aslussuūs mentioned in different Unani Pharmacopoeias for the management of PE, and Spermatorrhoea is widely prescribed and recommended for a long time by Unani physicians and it is a time-tested drug. This manuscript is an attempt to summarize scientific studies in support of the claim made by Unani physicians regarding Safuūf-i Aslussuūs. 4. Habb-e-Azaraqi, A Potent Unani Pharmacopoeial preparation used in Neurological disorder: A review

Abstract

Unani medicine relies on drugs of natural origin for the treatment of various medical conditions. It is practised throughout Asia and particularly in India. The rich natural drug asset of Unani medicine includes both single and compound drugs. Habb-e-Azaraqi is a polyherbal Unani formulation used clinically since decades for the management of various neurological disorders like facial palsy, paralysis, gout and arthritis. The explicit nature of Habb-e-Azaraqi rationalizes its use in nervine disorders. The main ingredient of Habb-e-Azaraqi is Azaraqi mudabbar (detoxified Strychnos nux-vomica L.) which is known for its diverse medicinal uses. This review highlights the traditional uses of Habb-e-Azaraqi, phytochemistry and pharmacological properties of its ingredient. 6. Arq Ajeeb prevents capsaicin induced visceral pain and indomethacin induced gastric ulcer pain in male Swiss mice

Abstract

Visceral pain is a characteristic complaint of gastrointestinal disorders. Arq Ajeeb (AA), is an Unani pharmacopeial formulation used to treat gastrointestinal pain. The present study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of AA in visceral pain models. Acute toxicity study of AA was done as per OECD guidelines 423. For analgesic activity, Capsaicin-induced visceral and Indomethacin-induced gastric ulcer pain models were used. Adult male Swiss mice were divided into five groups of six each, viz. negative, positive, standard, test A, and B groups. AA administered orally (0.05 and 0.1 ml/kg). In first test, pain was induced by intracolonic administration of capsaicin (200 microliters); spontaneous behavior was observed and referred hyperalgesia tested by Von Frey filament. Gastric ulcer was induced with indomethacin (30mg/kg). The standard control animals were treated with omeprazole (20mg/kg) and test groups received AA as in previous test. Referred hyperalgesia was quantified and mucosal surface was examined for ulceration. AA was taken to GCMS analysis as well. The result of AA was safe at 300 mg/kg. In the capsaicin model, mice treated with tramadol and AA at both doses showed significant reduction in pain behavior (p˂0.01; p˂0.001; p˂0.05) respectively. In indomethacin model, pain threshold in standard, test group A and B increased (p˂0.01; p˂0.001; p˂0.001) at 4 hr, and after 24 hours (p˂0.05; p˂0.05; p˂0.05) with significant ulcer reduction (p˂0.01; p˂0.01; p˂0.01) respectively. The study concluded that AA has profound analgesic and anti-ulcerogenic activities in mice, validating the Unani claims that AA is effective in the treatment of gastrointestinal pain., Arabian Journal of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, مجلد 8, عدد 3 (2022)

Abstract

Science has uncovered much about SARS-CoV-2 and made extraordinary and unprecedented progress on the development of COVID-19 vaccines, but there is still great uncertainty as the pandemic continues to evolve. We are simply moving to a new phase of the pandemic. Tiryaq Wabai, is on the polyherbal medicine used for centuries by Unani doctors as preventative medicine in epidemics. It consists of three ingredients: Sibr (Aloe barbadensis), Zafran (Crocus sativus), and Mur-Makki (Commiphora myrrh). All the three ingredients of Tiryaq Wabai have various pharmacological activities like immunomodulatory, antitussive, expectorant, and antiviral activity which provide a strong basis for its prophylactic use for covid-19 infection. Abstract

Habb-ul-Ghar (Laurus nobilis L., fruit) is used in the Unani and other traditional systems of medicine since ancient times. It has been also used in culinary and pharmaceutical industries. Various phytoconstituents were isolated from laurel fruit, like monoterpenes, sesquiterpenes, fatty acids, flavonoids, phenolic acid, and some minerals. Many pharmacological studies have been carried out to explore its anti-oxidant, antimicrobial, antiproliferative, antinociceptive, and anti-inflammatory activities.
