When designing an experimental setup for measuring the flux of cosmic ray muons through a geological structure, it is crucial to make detailed estimates about the expected muon flux attenuation by the structure studied. In this way, the coverage area of the detectors, the data acquisition system and the time length of data taking can be planned accordingly to the aimed accuracy of the measurements. We present here a computational study of the cosmic muon flux at the location of Monserrate Hill in Bogota, Colombia, using the CORSIKA cosmic ray simulator. We use ArcGIS package to estimate the mean depth muons have to travel through the mountain to reach the detector. We consider two different uniform densities of rock for the mountain to make estimates of the muon flux. Through the interpolation of stopping power available data, one can then determine the attenuation as a function of the muon incident energy. Our final result provides an estimation for the muon flux attenuation as a function of the location of the mountain where the muons pass through. We also supply estimated values for the time needed to reach an accuracy of about 3$\%$ in the measurement of the muon flux through Monserrate Hill. Our strategy can be easily adapted for muon flux studies at any other location in the world., Comment: 23 pages, 15 figures

- Abstract
AbstractThis paper studies the free vibration and harmonic response of Functionally Graded Graphene/Epoxy composite plates, considering the First Order Shear Deformation Plate Theory. The weight fraction of graphene variation along the thickness direction with graphene homogeneous dispersed in a polymer matrix. The effective Young Modulus of the plate is predicted by a new micro-mechanical model. The model includes the aspect ratio and weight fraction of nanoplatelets embedded into the matrix. The modal and harmonic of Graphene/Epoxy plates are obtained by the Boundary Element Method formulation for composite plates. The Young modulus calculated from the proposed micro-mechanical model highly agrees with those obtained from experimental results reported in the literature. Results demonstrate a high correlation of the micromechanical model with experimental results and other analytical models. Graphene weight fraction and ratio aspect increase the effective Young modulus of the composite. Boundary Element results show high agreement with Finite Element solutions. Numerical results for modal and harmonic analysis show concentrating graphene near the top and bottom surfaces of the plate is the most effective way to reinforce the plate for increased natural frequencies. The results demonstrate the BEM formulation and micromechanical model can be used as reliable engineering tools for the vibrational analysis of functionally grade graphene composite plates. - Abstract
Background: Improving stroke services is critical for reducing the global stroke burden. The World Stroke Organization–World Health Organization–Lancet Neurology Commission on Stroke conducted a survey of the status of stroke services in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) compared to high-income countries. Methods: Using a validated World Stroke Organization comprehensive questionnaire, we collected and compared data on stroke services along four pillars of the stroke quadrangle (surveillance, prevention, acute stroke, and rehabilitation) in 84 countries across World Health Organization regions and economic strata. The World Health Organization also conducted a survey of non-communicable diseases in 194 countries in 2019. Results: Fewer surveillance activities (including presence of registries, presence of recent risk factors surveys, and participation in research) were reported in low-income countries than high-income countries. The overall global score for prevention was 40.2%. Stroke units were present in 91% of high-income countries in contrast to 18% of low-income countries (p < 0.001). Acute stroke treatments were offered in ∼ 60% of high-income countries compared to 26% of low-income countries (p = 0.009). Compared to high-income countries, LMICs provided less rehabilitation services including in-patient rehabilitation, home assessment, community rehabilitation, education, early hospital discharge program, and presence of rehabilitation protocol. Conclusions: There is an urgent need to improve access to stroke units and services globally especially in LMICs. Countries with less stroke services can adapt strategies from those with better services. This could include establishment of a framework for regular monitoring of stroke burden and services, implementation of integrated prevention activities and essential acute stroke care services, and provision of interdisciplinary care for stroke rehabilitation.

The application of FeSiB family magnetic materials in the electrical or electronic industry has significantly increased owing to the development of amorphous and nanocrystalline metallic glasses using melt spinning and chill block melt spinning technology, which involves a rotating metal wheel with a high rotation speed. With this technique, a thin ribbon is obtained owing to the jet of liquid metal expelled from a casting nozzle at high pressure and temperature over the outer surface of the wheel. The cooling rates that can be achieved lead to disorder in the crystalline lattice of the metal, which is dependent on the chemical composition. As soon as the material jet is expelled by the nozzle, turbulence can occur in the solidification puddles. This generates defects and cracks in the solidification profile. In this study, numerically simulated ad hoc events in OPENFOAM
® are comparatively examined using a real process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]- Published

- Abstract
In this work, the harmonic analysis of shallow shells using the Boundary Element Method, is presented. The proposed boundary element formulation is based on a direct time-domain integration using the elastostatic fundamental solutions for both in-plane elasticity and shear deformable plates. Shallow shell was modeled coupling boundary element formulation of shear deformable plate and two-dimensional plane stress elasticity. Effects of shear deformation and rotatory inertia were included in the formulation. Domain integrals related to inertial terms were treated using the Dual Reciprocity Boundary Element Method. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed formulation. Copyright © 2014 Tech Science Press

27. Melodies as Maximally Disordered Systems under Macroscopic Constraints with Musical Meaning.

- Abstract
One of the most relevant features of musical pieces is the selection and utilization of musical elements by composers. For connecting the musical properties of a melodic line as a whole with those of its constituent elements, we propose a representation for musical intervals based on physical quantities and a statistical model based on the minimization of relative entropy. The representation contains information about the size, location in the register, and level of tonal consonance of musical intervals. The statistical model involves expected values of relevant physical quantities that can be adopted as macroscopic constraints with musical meaning. We studied the occurrences of musical intervals in 20 melodic lines from seven masterpieces of Western tonal music. We found that all melodic lines are strictly ordered in terms of the physical quantities of the representation and that the formalism is suitable for approximately reproducing the final selection of musical intervals made by the composers, as well as for describing musical features as the asymmetry in the use of ascending and descending intervals, transposition processes, and the mean dissonance of a melodic line.

- Abstract
This article analyzes the application of the explanatory moment of the Strategic Situational Planning (SSP) and the Analysis of the Situation of Health (ASIS), as approaches that together, allow to prioritize with a look from the equity problems of health in the local level feasible of intervention. By using the case study developed in the parish Zuata of Aragua State, Venezuela, it can be observed the application of both approaches The main actors of the above mentioned parish prioritized the low coverage of drinkable water, like a health problem. On having analyzed the problem, the following causes were selected to prepare the proposed action: scarce community participation, weakness of governmental plans, absence of political town-planning, inadequate administration of the public resources and lack of conscience in the rational use of water. At the end one concludes that the joint PES-ASIS allows to generate inputs that concretized for the actors in an action plan, they can contribute in the reduction of inequities. Also, the active participation of the actors allows to demonstrate the real problems of the population and to construct a plan of demands.
