IRT models are being increasingly used worldwide for test construction and scoring. The study examines the practical implications of estimating individual scores in a paper-and-pencil high-stakes test using 2PL and 3PL models, specifically whether the principle of consistent order holds when scoring with IRT. The principle states that student A, who answers the same (or a larger) number of items of greater difficulty than student B, should outscore B. Results of analyses conducted using actual scores from the Chilean national admission test in mathematics indicate the principle does not hold when scoring with 2PL or 3PL models. Students who answer more items and of greater difficulty may be assigned lower scores. The findings can be explained by examining the mathematical models, since estimated ability scores are an increasing function of the accumulated estimated discriminations for the correct items, not their difficulty. For high stakes tests the decision to use complex model should therefore be a matter of serious deliberation for policy makers and test experts, since fairness and transparency may be compromised., Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 1 table

Computer Science - Networking and Internet Architecture - Abstract
This paper reports our work on extending the Omnet INET Framework with a directional radio model, putting a special emphasis on the implementation of asymmetrical communications. We first analyze the original INET radio model, focusing on its design and components. Then we discuss the modifications that have been done to support directional communications. Our preliminary results show that the new model is flexible enough to allow the user to provide any antenna pattern shape, with only an additional reasonable computational cost.

[EN] This paper presents a preliminary use of satellite imagery from the CORONA program in the reconstruction of the archaeological landscape of two different sites: Ancient Termez (southern border of Uzbekistan) and Khatm Al Melaha (eastern coast of United Arab Emirates in Kalba area). This analysis constitutes the first step of the work carried out in the field since 2018 at both sites for an analysis of the syntactic interoperability of multi-scale geospatial data for archaeological heritage. The aim of this work was to establish an approach for the use of CORONA satellite imagery for archaeological DEM reconstruction. The objectives of the reconstruction were conditioned for different reasons: in the case of Termez prior to the anthropic transformation of the site in the Soviet - Afghan War and in the case of Khatm Al Melaha prior to the urban, coastal and road transformation. The results have provided uneven data due to the characteristics of the existing imagery: mission, resolution, overlap, orography and different ground control point distribution. This methodology opens a door to the reconstruction of archaeological landscapes that have suffered evident deterioration for different reasons by means of historical aerial imagery in the last 60 years, practically, in some cases, as a primary and unique source for analysing this type of change from the past., [ES] Este artículo presenta un uso preliminar de imágenes satelitales del programa CORONA en la reconstrucción del paisaje arqueológico de dos yacimientos diferentes: la Antigua Termez (frontera Sur de Uzbekistán) y Khatm Al Melaha (costa Este de los Emiratos Árabes Unidos en la zona de Kalba).
Abstract: This project arises due to Nicolás Sáenz’s intention of getting a digital version of the journal of his grandfather Clemente Sáenz García which was written using a typewriter. After several attempts of digitization performed by commercial optical character recognition (OCR) software, it was revealed that none gave optimal results. The aim of this project is to develop a customized OCR tool, performing a predictive character analysis through the modeling of a convolutional neural network. The training and learning phases of the neural network will allow to get a better text recognition, obtaining an editable text representation with as few corrections as possible. As starting material there are photographs of each of the journal pages, which consists on fifteen volumes, making a total of 5420 typed sheets. In order to adapt them to the processes involved in this project, the images go through an already developed pre-processing stage, leaving them in similar conditions as scanned documents. On a high level description, the OCR application development is based on image segmentation, characters labelling, neural networks training, character recognition and post-processing of the predicted text. The software employed to implement this system is MATLAB, which provides multiple toolboxes that contain specific functions for each of the processes used. In this case, Image Processing Toolbox was used for segmentation, Deep Learning Toolbox for neural networks training and prediction and Report Generator Toolbox to obtain the final text in Word format. An iterative and incremental methodology was employed, performing segmentation of the input image into each of the characters that comprises it as the first step. A previously developed segmentation system was used as a starting point, based on the pixel accumulation method. The obtained results were not satisfactory, as some characters overlapped with others, so improvements were made in this regard, thus obtaining unique characters as output. After the development of this function and its validation with a selected set of images, its output is employed to create a dataset of character images that requires manual labeling of each. This result will be used to train the convolutional neural network. Convolutional neural networks mimic the biological learning process that occurs in our brain, in which multiple neurons are interconnected and respond to stimuli that occur in a restricted area of the visual field. As a result, it learns to classify characters by analyzing their characteristics. Finally, predicted characters are grouped into coherent words, thus forming a readable text. Final result is presented in Word format with the content of the input image’s text, marking the words that are supposedly not correct due to prediction errors to facilitate a subsequent manual correction.

Sediments deposited in a high-altitude wet zone of the NW Andes of Colombia have been studied in order to reconstruct climatic variations in the tropics during the Holocene (the last 11'500 years). Sediments were studied by palynology and X-ray microfluorescence which can be used as proxies for temperature and rainfall and have a decadal to yearly time resolution. Results demonstrate that the Holocene record in NW Colombia is marked by rapid and very significant changes in temperature and precipitations. Temperatures may have varied (up or down) of a few degrees centigrade over less than a century. Rainfall data and regional comparisons show that the climate mechanisms that have influenced NW Colombia during the Holocene are both Pacific and Atlantic-driven. Rainfall proxies show the influence of both the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) in the Pacific and the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in the Atlantic.

International audience; This paper reports on our experience in using OMNeT++ to develop a network simulator focused on railway environments. Common design problems are analyzed, making emphasis on radio communication models. Scalability issues are raised when modeling the large topologies that are associated with railway communications. Our conclusions point out that model re-usability must be reinforced and that a component-based design must be adopted in order to build a tool for generating valuable performance results.

Abstract: The porpoise of this project is to design a model for a company of the real sector, which will determine limit assignations to financial institutions such as banks, commercial finance corporations, financial corporations and development banks, from credit and market risk analysis which can generate timely alerts in terms of investment amounts and maximum investment probable losses arising from market or the failure of several financial institutions, so that serves to carry out appropriate control and monitoring of portfolio investments and portfolio management. This methodology could be applied in any company in the real sector that has excess liquidity and thus make money from temporary placements in the market, exposing themselves to financial risks in order to obtain a certain level of profitability, which depends on your profile investment. The present model will be the result of a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the financial institutions to be evaluated, and also to review the allocation necessities of a temporary investment of a company of the real sector, that has excess liquidity in a given time. In addition, the company used this methodology in order to mitigate their losses and in general, to maintain control of their financial operations, as this is the key to making management decisions, administrative and operational business. The model will be supported by a theoretical document on risk, specifically financial risk, which mainly will explain the fundamental concepts on credit and market risk as the focus of issuers of securities, which belong to the sector Financial Colombia. Additionally, this paper will include recommendations generated from the results of the model, which will be highly reliable to implement in a company of the real sector that want to place their money in the market, either through a portfolio investment or a portfolio. This article presents an economic decision model for planning in public education, considering the satisfaction of the total demand for education in a municipality and the annual cost involved in the system. Given a set of established schools in a municipality and possible new locations, the aim of the model is to find the optimal supply in terms of which schools should be kept open or closed, which grades (or year levels) should be made available and the number of classes that should be provided within each such grade to meet student demand. The model includes specific information about curriculum requirements in terms of the number of hours per year per subject to be provided for each grade level. The objective function essentially seeks to minimize the total fixed and variable costs to schools, which mainly relate to human resources (principal and direction, teaching, administrative, and support staff). We propose an integer optimization model for solving this problem and we apply it to two large municipalities in Chile. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The aim of the present study was first to isolate Helicobacter pylori from gastric biopsy specimens and to test their antibiotic susceptibility. Second, it was to evaluate the efficacy of the standard triple therapy from patients of the west central region of Colombia. H. pylori positive patients received standard triple therapy with proton pump inhibitor (PPI) (40 mg b.i.d.), clarithromycin (500 mg b.i.d.), and amoxicillin (1 g b.i.d.) for 14 days. Thereafter, antibiotic susceptibility of the isolates was assessed by E-Test. From 94 patients enrolled, 67 were positive for H. pylori by histology or culture. Overall resistance to metronidazole, levofloxacin, rifampicin, clarithromycin, and amoxicillin was 81%, 26.2%, 23.9%, 19%, and 9.5%, respectively. No resistance was found for tetracycline. A total of 54 patients received standard triple therapy, 48 attended follow-ups testing, and of them, 30 had resistance test reports. Overall eradication rate was 81.2%. Second-line treatment was given to eight patients, four of whom were followed up with a 13C urea breath test (UBT) and remained positive for H. pylori . Eradication was significantly higher in patients with clarithromycin susceptible than in resistant strains (95.6% vs 42.8% P = 0.001). The updated percentages of resistance to clarithromycin in this geographical area had increased, so this value must be considered when choosing the treatment regimen.IMPORTANCEAntibiotic resistance in Helicobacter pylori has increased worldwide, as has resistance to multiple antimicrobials (MDRs), which seriously hampers the successful eradication of the infection. The ideal success rate in eradicating H. pylori infection (≥90%) was not achieved in this study (81.2%). This is the first time that MDR is reported (14.3%) in the region; the resistance to clarithromycin increased over time (3.8%-19%), and levofloxacin (26.2%) and rifampicin (23%) resistant isolates were detected for the first time. With these results, strain susceptibility testing is increasingly important, and the selection of treatment regimen should be based on local antibiotic resistance patterns., Competing Interests: The authors declare no conflict of interest.
