Abstract

The estimation of environmental sensibility to desertification at regional scale requires the setting up of elaboration and updating methodologies capable of handling considerable amounts of data in an integrated approach. This would allow evaluating the different stages of environmental degradation as well as the existing interactions among the singular components of the territory. These maps are also strongly related to climate conditions, land use changes and new data availability. The present paper proposes a complete review on the environmental sensibility areas index (ESA) methodology and its applicability in the Mediterranean context as an environmental management tool and a methodology for updating an ESA map, applied on the Basilicata Region (Southern Italy). The ESA map updating process with new spatial data sets, beside the interests for the updated information, represents a methodological reference for using and converting new spatial layer information into such scheme. An analysis of the differences among the two risk maps (past and present) is also presented.

Abstract

In order to investigate bio-physical parameters associated with water quality, a model based on calibrated and atmospherically corrected Remotely Sensed data has been implemented. Secchi Disk depth and chlorophyll concentration parameters were estimated in a system of very small lakes at Monticchio (Italy) using Landsat TM data. The model was developed through the use of stepwise multiple regression and gave high coefficients of determination (R2 = 0.82 for Secchi Disk and R2 = 0.72 for chlorophyll). Values for water transparency were strongly correlated with chlorophyll a concentration: a linear relationship between the two parameters showed a high coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.93). The case study shows that the application of this approach on lakes with a small surface area, such as the Monticchio lakes in Southern Italy, is effective and the developed model well describes the water quality parameters.

Por consiguiente, el estudio que se realiza es con el fin de conocer como las evaluaciones de ingreso y capacitaciones influyen en el desarrollo y crecimiento de los colaboradores y la organización a nivel interno y externo. Studies carried out regarding the importance of training and evaluation of staff performance to perform efficiently the tasks that the responsibilities of the jobs available require has led organizations to seek different methods to carry conduct training and / or performance evaluation without detrimental to the development of employees . Abstract

IgA nephropathy (IgAN) represents the most common primary glomerulonephritis worldwide with a prevalence of 25-50% among patients with primary glomerulopathies. In similar to 5-10% of the patients the disease segregates with an autosomal dominant (AD) pattern. Association studies identified loci on chromosomes 1q32, 6p21, 8p23, 17p13, 22q12, whereas classical linkage studies on AD families identified loci on chromosomes 2q36, 4q26-31, 6q22, 17q12-22. We have studied a large Sicilian family where IgAN segregates with an AD transmission. To identify the causal gene, the exomes of two affected and one unaffected individual have been sequenced. From the bioinformatics analysis a p.(Arg119Trp) variant in the SPRY2 gene was identified as the probable disease-causing mutation. Moreover, functional characterization of this variant showed that it is responsible for the inhibition of the MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway. The same effect was observed in two sporadic IgAN patients carriers of wild-type SPRY2, suggesting that downregulation of the MAPK/ERK1/2 pathway represents a common mechanism leading to IgAN.

Abstract

Colorectal cancer is the second cause of morbidity and death in Italy. Genetic and environmental factors, i.e. inappropriate nutrition, are strongly involved in the aetiology of colon cancer. In the present review the authors analyze the possible mechanisms by which certain nutritive factors may interfere with the complex process of carcinogenesis.The authors identify studies by a literature search of Medline from January 1, 1970, through December 31, 2006.The mechanism of every protective compound is detailed, in particular the impact of antioxidant vitamins and minerals on tumor development. At present, the data suggest that vegetables are associated with lower risk and that their fbre content alone does not account for this association. Further, meat consumption is associated with an increased risk but this, too, is not explained solely by its fat content. Several microconstituents of the diet may be associated with reduced risk, including folate, methionine, calcium and vitamin D. Short chain fatty acids also contribute to colonic health. Nevertheless agricultural products contain several dangerous pesticides. Mutagenic compounds, particularly heterocyclic amines, produced when protein is cooked, plausibly explain the meat association.Healthy nutrition is a necessary but not sufficient condition for colon cancer prevention: accepted the feasibility of an accurate control on every patient's diet, fequently the difficulty encountered in nutritional chemoprevention is to establish individual metabolic profiles.

Abstract

The authors report a case of HIV-1 infection, primary miliary tuberculosis of the lung and secondary intestinal tuberculosis complicated with multiple intestinal perforations. The surgical emergency therapy, supported by specific antitubercular drugs, antibiotics, and total parenteral nutrition, consisted in suturing seven perforative sites of the small and large intestine. The Authors stress the possibility that in the future tubercular complications up till now considered atypical may become more and more frequent because of the HIV-1 infection association.

Abstract

La Compañía de Jesús ha estado empeñada en la acomodación del régimen original de pobreza religiosa a las nuevas circunstancias históricas a través de nuevas estructuras. Este tema se trató especialmente en las Congregaciones Generales 31 y 32. Se expone en este estudio la génesis de esta reforma y sus líneas esenciales examinando el grado y modo de su coherencia con el espíritu y régimen original de la pobreza de la Compañía. El tema consiste en un esfuerzo en expresar un mismo espíritu en normas parcialmente distintas de las originales. Se trata de hacer servir siempre las normas al espíritu que se pretende encarnar. Las conclusiones de esta acomodación apuntan a vivir en la práctica en circunstancias históricas y socioculturales muy distintas de las primitivas, la exigencia nuclear de la pobreza de los orígenes.

Abstract

De acuerdo con las Constituciones de la Compañía de Jesús, el cargo de su Prepósito General es vitalicio. Ellas prevén la posibilidad de que éste pueda encontrarse en situaciones de impedimento o incapacidad grave y definitiva para gobernar, con notable daño para el bien común, y articulan soluciones apropiadas para ello. Mucho tiempo después, se ha visto la conveniencia de atender a situaciones no tan graves, en las que el Prepósito se encuentre en inferioridad permanente, sin llegar a ser extrema, para desempeñar las tareas de su cargo. La Congregación General 31 (1965-66), manteniendo el carácter vitalicio del cargo, concedió al Prepósito la facultad de renunciar a él en tales casos, siguiendo para ello un procedimiento detallado. La renuncia no produce efecto alguno, si no es aceptada por la Compañía en la Congregación General.

Abstract

El Concilio Vaticano II dedicó una intensa atención a la Vida Religiosa y a su adecuada renovación. La Constitución dogmática Lumen gentium situaba el estado religioso en el contexto de la vocación universal de los miembros de la Iglesia a la santidad, siendo su nota específica la práctica de los consejos evangélicos en un estado especialmente reconocido y regulado por la Iglesia. El decreto conciliar Perfectae caritatis formuló los principios y criterios básicos a que había de ajustarse la adecuada renovación de la Vida Religiosa, pedida por el Concilio. El «Motu proprio» Ecclesiae Sanctae, de Pablo VI, dio normas prácticas para aplicar el decreto, revisando las Constituciones y demás cuerpos normativos de cada instituto. Todo ello conserva un valor permanente para orientar el desarrollo de la vida religiosa, más allá del contexto conciliar y postconciliar.

Abstract

Summary: Isolated posterior cruciate ligament injuries are rare and their treatment is controversial. These lesions have commonly been treated by open reduction and internal fixation using a posterior approach. However, this approach makes it difficult to explore other combined injuries of the knee joint. We report 2 cases of posterior cruciate ligament avulsion of the tibia that were arthroscopically reduced and fixed using 2 different methods, cannulated screws and tension band wire.
