Abstract

High-mass protostars (M$_{\star} >$ 8 M$_{\odot}$) are thought to gain the majority of their mass via short, intense bursts of growth. This episodic accretion is thought to be facilitated by gravitationally unstable and subsequently inhomogeneous accretion disks. Limitations of observational capabilities, paired with a lack of observed accretion burst events has withheld affirmative confirmation of the association between disk accretion, instability and the accretion burst phenomenon in high-mass protostars. Following its 2019 accretion burst, a heat-wave driven by a burst of radiation propagated outward from the high-mass protostar G358.93-0.03-MM1. Six VLBI (very long baseline interferometry) observations of the raditively pumped 6.7 GHz methanol maser were conducted during this period, tracing ever increasing disk radii as the heat-wave propagated outward. Concatenating the VLBI maps provided a sparsely sampled, milliarcsecond view of the spatio-kinematics of the accretion disk covering a physical range of $\sim$ 50 - 900 AU. We term this observational approach `heat-wave mapping'. We report the discovery of a Keplerian accretion disk with a spatially resolved four-arm spiral pattern around G358.93-0.03-MM1. Yoshiharu Uno Office Uno Column, Yota, Onoe-Cho, Kakogawa, Japan Purpose: Variations in the caliber of human large intestinal tract causes changes in pressure and the velocity of its contents, depending on flow volume, gravity, and density, which are all variables of Bernoulli’s principle. Therefore, it was hypothesized that constipation and diarrhea can occur due to changes in the colonic transit time (CTT), according to Bernoulli’s principle. In addition, it was hypothesized that high amplitude peristaltic contractions (HAPC), which are considered to be involved in defecation in healthy subjects, occur because of cecum pressure based on Bernoulli’s principle.Methods: A virtual healthy model (VHM), a virtual constipation model and a virtual diarrhea model were set up. For each model, the CTT was decided according to the length of each part of the colon, and then calculating the velocity due to the cecum inflow volume. In the VHM, the pressure change was calculated, then its consistency with HAPC was verified.Results: The CTT changed according to the difference between the cecum inflow volume and the caliber of the intestinal tract, and was inversely proportional to the cecum inflow volume. Compared with VHM, the CTT was prolonged in the virtual constipation model, and shortened in the virtual diarrhea model. The calculated pressure of the VHM and the gradient of the interlocked graph were similar to that of HAPC.Conclusion: The CTT and HAPC can be explained by Bernoulli’s principle, and constipation and diarrhea may be fundamentally influenced by flow dynamics. Abstract

The [Nb.sub.3]Sn cable-in-conduit conductors are fabricated for the ITER toroidal field (TF) coils by using the latest high performance strands. The strands made by bronze and internal-tin methods are used for the conductors with a void fraction and superconducting performance of the conductors is measured at the operating condition of the TF coils.

Abstract

We have modelled the 3D distribution of OH/IR stars in the Galactic plane, traced by 1612 MHz OH maser sources with classic double horned spectral profiles. We statistically analysed over 700 maser sources detected by the HI/OH/Recombination line survey of the Milky Way (THOR) and the Australia Telescope Compact Array interferometric follow-up observations of the Southern Parkes Large-Area Survey in Hydroxyl (SPLASH). With a simple model constructed from a classical density distribution of stars and luminosity functions of OH maser sources in the Galaxy, we estimate the scale height, or the half thickness of the OH/IR star distribution along the Galactic disc to be 90–290 pc. The simple model also implies that there are ∼4000 OH/IR stars hosting 1612 MHz OH masers along the Galactic Plane. Therefore, next generation telescopes such as the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) and SKA Phase 1 will detect about 80 per cent of such OH/IR stars in the Galaxy at a 10 mJy detection limit. Comparing the data of previously detected circumstellar 1612 MHz OH maser sources with those of THOR and SPLASH, the maser source lifetime is estimated to be ∼300 yr. This is likely a lower limit, since non-detections of masers in some cases could be affected by the flux variation of the maser source. © 2021 The Author(s).

Abstract

A two-turn D-shaped test coil with a height of 2.0 m and a width of 1.8 m is fabricated by a react-and-wind method by using a 20 kA Nb3Al cable-in-conduit (CIC) conductor. The total strain of the D-shaped test coil is about 0.57 percent, the same as the triplex-CIC sample fabricated by a W&R method, indicating that bending did not influence the I(sub c).

Abstract

Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute is constructing the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor common test facility for the Central Solenoid Model Coil which is around 180 tons, a forced-flow cooled magnet with the maximum pulsed operation of 2 T/s and generates the rated magnetic field of 13 T at 48 kA with stored energy of 668 MJ. The test facility consists of a coil vacuum chamber, a cryogenic system with the 5-kW refrigerator and 500-g/s cryogenic pump, two pairs of 50-kA current leads, two DC power supplies (50kA and 60kA) and two JT-60 pulsed power supplies (50 kA, [+ or -]4.5 kV and [+ or -]40 kA, [+ or -]1.5 kV). The facility will be demonstrating the refrigeration and operation of a fusion pulsed magnet and the design and construction will accumulate experience towards the construction of ITER.
