Abstract

The mechanisms that generate adhesion forces in liquid lubricants are studied under various experimental conditions. These forces occur between two surfaces when they are detached in the normal direction under static boundary lubrication conditions. The adhesion force is not influenced by the speed at which the upper specimen is pulled up, but is influenced by the viscosity of the lubricant. The adhesion force under boundary lubrication is much greater than that under hydrodynamic lubrication, and it is closely related to the compressibility of the lubricant.

Abstract

Objectives: This study was performed to determine whether multiparous pregnant women are prone to influenza. Methods: A questionnaire survey was conducted at 19 centres located throughout Japan, targeting all 6694 postpartum women within 7 days after birth before leaving the hospital. All women gave birth during the study period between March 1, 2015, and July 31, 2015. Data regarding vaccination and influenza infection in or after October 2014, age, previous experience of childbirth, and number and ages of cohabitants were collected. Results: Seventy-eight percent (n = 5,197) of women given questionnaires responded. Of these, 2,661 (51%) and 364 (7.0%) women reported having been vaccinated and having contracted influenza, respectively. Multiparous women had a higher risk of influenza regardless of vaccination status (8.9% [121/1,362] vs. 5.7% [74/1,299], relative risk [95% confidence interval], 1.80 [1.36 to 2.38] for vaccinated and 9.3% [112/1,198] vs. 4.3% [57/1,328], 2.18 [1.60 to 2.97] for unvaccinated women) compared to primiparous women. The risk of influenza increased with increasing number of cohabitants: 4.8% (100/2,089), 7.5%, (121/1,618), 9.0%, (71/785), and 10.4% (58/557) for women with 1, 2, 3, and ≥ 4 cohabitants, respectively. Conclusions: Family size is a risk factor for influenza infection in pregnancy.

Abstract

Three-dimensional simultaneous measurements of velocity field in a turbulent pipe flow are performed by digital holographic velocimetry. We proposed holography technique with two laser beams. For this study, the Reynolds numbers was set to be 15000. The accuracy of the experimental method was confirmed by comparing the results from the method with DNS data by Satake et al. [4] when using the same Reynolds number. The velocity profiles obtained from the method was found to be in good agreement with that of the DNS data.

35. The Readout Tests of Freiburg Hybrids using ABCD chips

Abstract

New SCT forward hybrids have been completed in Freiburg. Their performance, based on readout tests using batches of ABCD chips is presented in this note. A so called Kapton hybrid (K1) was equipped with 6 n-type ABCD-2 chips and a 6 cm n-in-n forward detector. A subset of the 768 strips were ganged together to simulate 12 cm long strips. After careful grounding no oscillations were observed. The noise values measured are about 0.3 fC (1900 electrons) for 12 cm strips, 0.18 fC (1200 electrons) for 6 cm strips and below 0.09 fC (550 electrons) for unbonded channels. The gain, extracted with a 3 point response curve fit, was rather high (100 -140) and almost independent of FE-Bias current.
