This article examines the role played by the media in theconstruction of reality, and specifically the role played –moreclearly after the attacks of September 11, 2001 in NewYork and Virginia– by the American media –including somenewspapers, television stations, magazines, and governmentalagencies’ websites (where official documents are periodicallypublished)– and certain “alternative media” (anti-capitalist andanti-American), mainly Latin American, in the construction of theexternal image of the so-called Parana Tri-Border Area (Paraguay,Brazil, Argentina). As it will be seen, these representations –especially the American ones–, despite having little support,have contributed to produce a negative external image of thearea, almost cinematic, marked by the presence of Islamicterrorists, traffickers of all kinds of products and CIA agents, aview that seems to differ from the one that prevails within theTri-Border Area. En este artículo se examina el rol que juegan los medios de comunicación en la construcción de la realidad, y en particular el papel que desempeñaron –más claramente después de los atentados del 11 de septiembre del 2001 en Nueva York y Virginia– los medios estadounidenses, incluyendo algunos diarios, canales de televisión, revistas especializadas y sitios web de organismos gubernamentales (en los que se difunden periódicamente documentos oficiales) y ciertos “medios alternativos” (anticapitalistas y antiestadounidenses) principalmente latinoamericanos, en la construcción de la imagen externa de la llamada Triple Frontera del Paraná (Paraguay, Brasil, Argentina). Como se verá, estas representaciones –en especial la estadounidense–, a pesar de tener poco sustento, han contribuido a gestar una imagen exterior negativa de la zona, casi cinematográfica, marcada por la presencia de terroristas islámicos, traficantes de todo tipo de productos y agentes de la CIA, visión que parece diferir de la que se tiene en el interior de la Triple Frontera paranaense.

The exposure of adult, female, Mediterranean goats during anoestrus to males with induced sexual activity via photostimulation, induces a very high percentage of ovulations. The present work examines the ability of photostimulated bucks to improve the male effect-induced reproductive response of young does over that induced by non-stimulated bucks. A 2×2 factorial experiment was designed, consisting of doe age and buck photoperiod treatments. During seasonal anoestrus, 41 does aged 7 (n=19) or 10 (n=22) months were subjected to the male effect on 10 April; half of each group was exposed to males rendered sexually active by prior exposure to 3 months of long days (16 h of light/day) from 31 October (PHOTO bucks), and half to males maintained under the natural photoperiod (CONTROL bucks). Oestrous activity was recorded daily by direct visual observation of the marks left by male-worn marking harnesses over the 32 days following the bringing of the sexes together (introduction). Doe body weight and body condition were determined weekly. Ovulation was detected by measuring plasma progesterone concentrations twice per week over the 3 weeks after introduction. The ovulation rate was assessed by transrectal ultrasonography. Fecundity, fertility, prolificacy and productivity were also determined. The interaction doe age × buck photoperiod treatment had no effect on any outcome. The percentage of females showing ovulation or oestrus was higher in the does exposed to PHOTO bucks (85% v. 43% for those exposed to CONTROL bucks) they also showed higher fertility (75% v. 43%) and productivity (1.05±0.17 v. 0.57±0.16 kids born per doe serviced) (all P values at least P, This study was funded by Grant AGL2016-75848-R from MINECO-AEI-FEDER (Spain). Este artículo pretende ser un punto de partida para una agenda de planificación y ordenamiento territorial en Chile teniendo una particular mirada sobre las instituciones. De este modo, comienza con un breve alcance conceptual sobre territorio, gobernanza, gobernabilidad y ordenamiento territorial. Luego se describe el inicio del proceso institucional de planificación regional y ordenamiento territorial en 2007-2008 con el Sistema Regional de Planificación y su implementación en los Gobiernos Regionales. Posteriormente se analiza el estado de avance de los PROT basándonos en los casos de la Región de Tarapacá y de la Región Metropolitana de Santiago. Finalmente, este artículo de congreso (o comunicación) cierra con una reflexión en torno a una serie de desafíos para el ordenamiento territorial en Chile.

SUMMARY The M= 8.1, 1 April 2014 Iquique earthquake, which broke part of the northern Chile seismic gap, was preceded by a strong foreshock sequence starting early January 2014. The reported analysis of the continuous records of the nearby GPS stations from the Integrated Plate Observatory Chile, North Chile array lead to contradictory results concerning the existence and location of slow slip events (SSEs) on the interplate contact. Resolving this controversy is an important issue, as although many SSEs are reported in subduction zones, only a few were found to be precursory to large earthquakes. Here we show that the records of a long base tiltmeter installed near Iquique, when corrected for coseismic steps, long-term drift, tidal signals and oceanic and atmospheric loading, show significant residual signals. These can be modelled with a sequence of four SSEs located close to Iquique. Their signature was already reported on some GPS stations, but their source was then characterized with a very low resolution in time and space, leading to contradicting models. With the tilt records, we can rule out the previously proposed models with a single large SSE closer to the main shock. Combining tilt with GPS records greatly improves the resolution of GPS alone, and one could locate their sources 100–180 km south–southeast to the main shock epicentre, with moment magnitudes between 5.8 and 6.2, at the edge of the main aftershock asperities. These moderate SSEs thus did not directly trigger the main shock, but contributed to trigger the main foreshock and the main aftershock. Only the sensitivity and resolution of the tiltmeter, added to the GPS records, allowed us to describe with unprecedented accuracy this precursory process as a cascade of cross-triggered, short-term aseismic slip events and earthquakes on the interplate contact. This three months of precursory activation appears to be the final acceleration burst of a weaker, longer term SSE which started mid-2013, already reported, with a moment release history which we could quantify. From the methodological point of view, our study takes advantage of an interesting complementarity of tilt and GPS measurements, due to their different dependence in distance to the source of strain, which turns out to be very efficient for resolving location and moment of strain sources, even when both instruments are close to each other. It finally demonstrates the efficient removal of sequences of small or even undetected coseismic steps from high resolution tilt record signal in order to retrieve the purely aseismic signal, a presently impossible task for high time resolution GPS records due to low signal to noise.

One experiment was conducted to determine whether the treatment with artificial long days and exogenous melatonin can increase, by itself, luteinizing hormone (LH) secretion during spring (seasonal anoestrus) in Payoya goats and whether this treatment causes a variation in the reactivation of the LH secretion in the normal breeding season. The experiment started on 4 November and finished on 27 October. A total of 22 ovariectomised-oestradiol treated goats were used. Ten goats were exposed to long days (16 h of light/day) from 14 November to 20 February. On 20 February, they received one s.c. melatonin implant and were exposed to natural photoperiodic changes in an open shed. The control group was located in another open shed with any treatment during the whole experiment. For both groups, plasma samples were obtained twice a week for LH assay. The photoperiodic treatment induced an earlier fall of the LH secretion. However, after the melatonin treatment, a clear increase of LH secretion during the natural seasonal anoestrus in the treated group was observed, and no difference in the onset of the LH secretion at the normal breeding season was observed. We can conclude that, in Payoya goats, the photoperiodicmelatonin treatment is by itself able to induce a clear LH increase during the seasonal anoestrus and does not modify the reactivation of the LH secretion at the normal breeding season.

We present a detailed study of tsunami-induced tilt at in-land sites, to test the interest and feasibility of such analysis for tsunami detection and modelling. We studied tiltmeter and broadband seismometer records of northern Chile, detecting a clear signature of the tsunamis generated by the 2007 Tocopilla (M = 7.6) and the 2010 Maule (M = 8.8) earthquakes. We find that these records are dominated by the tilt due to the elastic loading of the oceanic floor, with a small effect of the horizontal gravitational attraction. We modelled the Maule tsunami using the seismic source model proposed by Delouis et al. and a bathymetric map, correctly fitting three tide gauge records of the area (Antofagasta, Iquique and Arica). At all the closest stations (7 STS2, 2 long-base tiltmeters), we correctly modelled the first few hours of the tilt signal for the Maule tsunami. The only phase mismatch is for the site that is closer to the ocean. We find a tilt response of 0.005–0.01 μm at 7 km away from the coastline in response to a sea level amplitude change of 10 cm. For the Maule earthquake, we observe a clear tilt signal starting 20 min before the arrival time of the tsunami at the nearest point on the coastline. This capability of tilt or seismic sensors to detect distant tsunamis before they arrive has been successfully tested with a scenario megathrust in the southern Peru-northern Chile seismic gap. However, for large events near the stations, this analysis may no longer be feasible, due to the large amplitude of the long-period seismic signals expected to obscure the loading signal. Inland tilt measurements of tsunamis smooth out short, often unmodelled wavelengths of the sea level perturbation, thus providing robust, large-scale images of the tsunami. Furthermore, tilt measurements are not expected to saturate even for the largest run-ups, nor to suffer from near-coast tsunami damages. Tiltmeters and broadband seismometers are thus valuable instruments for monitoring tsunamis in complement with tide gauge arrays.

Cette communication explore les tensions que les producteurs chiliens aymara de quinua affrontent entre la logique de leur culture ancestrale et celle des nouvelles formes d'action collectives à leur disposition : association et coopératives. Colchanes, commune perchée sur l’altiplano aymara est la principale zone de production de quinua chilienne. Sa population se consacre à l’agriculture, principalement quinua et productions maraichères, l’élevage de camélidés ainsi qu’au tourisme (accueil, hébergement, artisanat…). La quinua est partiellement auto-consommée et le surplus commercialisé dans les marchés locaux notamment en Bolivie. La situation économique difficile, l'absence de perspectives ont provoqué une migration temporaire ou définitive d’une grande partie de la population, principalement les jeunes partis s’installer en ville. Les agriculteurs de la commune, afin de bénéficier d'un marché porteur ont mis en place une coopérative, Quinacoop et une association Jura Marka, pour commercialiser la quinua et ses sous-produits et accompagner la production. Au sein de ces organisations se produisent des tensions entre « tradition » et « modernité ». Les travaux de B. Latour sur la modernité nous servent pour essayer de les comprendre et aussi pour saisir la façon dont les aymaras tentent de les résoudre. Nos observations montrent que les processus d’hybridation, modernité-tradition, se font autour de trois types d’articulations : i) organisationnel, entre les formes de travail : mutualisé (ayne) et individuel, i) spatial ou territorial, entre systèmes de culture à base de quinua (altiplano) et systèmes d’activités conduites pour la plupart en zone côtière iii) générationnel, entre les jeunes et les tatas., In this paper we explore the tensions that Aymara Quinoa producers must resolve between the logic of their ancestral culture and of new forms of collective action at their disposal: association and cooperatives. Colchanes county perched on the Aymara altiplano is the main Quinoa production area in Chile, The main activity is agriculture, mainly quinoa crop and vegetables, camelid livestock and tourism (accommodation, crafts ...). Much of the production is self-consumed and surplus is marketed in local markets especially in Bolivia. The difficult economic situation, lack of opportunities has led to a temporary or permanent migration of a large portion of the population; the younger generations move to town. To benefit from an advantageous market (high prices), local farmers have established a quinoa cooperative (Quinacoop) and an association (Jura Marka), to commercialize their production. Inside these organizations appear tensions between "tradition" and "modernity". We rely on the B. Latour's work on modernity to try to understand both the tension and the way that the Aymara, in cooperatives and association, are trying to solve them. Our observations show that the hybridization processes are around three types: i) linking labour organizational forms (shared (ayne) and individual), ii) linking quinoa cropping systems (in the altiplano) and systems of activities most of which are conducted in the coastal zone and iii) linking generations, young people and tata.

This study investigated usage of titriplex III in presence of hydrogen peroxide for metal extraction from chalcopyrite concentrate under various conditions such as conventional leaching, mechanical activation and ultrasound leaching. The results show that both titriplex and hydrogen peroxide are required for metal extraction from chalcopyrite concentrate. However, mechanical activation is an important parameter for increasing metal extraction, so that copper extraction increases to 83% from 47% after 30 min of grinding chalcopyrite by a high-energy grinding system. Metal extraction efficiency is improved by application of ultrasound to the leaching process. It is possible to obtain copper and iron extraction as 93% and 65%, respectively, under the following leaching conditions: mechanical activation time of 30 min, titriplex concentration of 100 g L−1, H2O2 concentration of 2 mol L−1, ultrasound power of 10%, leaching time of 90 min, leaching temperature of 45 °C and liquid–solid ratio of 25 mL g−1. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate how nutritional disorders alter the biological, nutritional and biochemical mechanisms of broccoli (Brassica oleracea var. italica L.) plants grown under greenhouse conditions. A complete nutrient solution and omissions of macronutrients were tested in a completely randomised design with four replicates. Broccoli plants grown with the omission of N and Ca were the first of show deficiency symptoms and the greatest reduction in the net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance, with evidently impaired plant growth and biomass. Omissions of macronutrients affected carbohydrate partitioning, and the content of soluble sugars significantly decreased by more 60% in response to Mg omission. With K omission, the contents of soluble sugars and starch increased in broccoli leaves by 40% and 60%, respectively. K transport increased in plants grown without Ca. S translocation decreased with the absence of any macronutrient in the nutrient solution. Deficiencies in the nutrients N, K, and Ca cause the most critical early damage in the photosynthetic apparatus and in the nutritional balance of broccoli plants, so attention should be given to replenishing these nutrients in plantations. The incidence of many malnutrition-related diseases among the populations of developing countries is closely related to low dietary zinc (Zn) intakes. This study evaluated the potential of agronomic biofortification of lettuce genotypes with Zn in different soils. We evaluated the ability to biofortify three lettuce genotypes (&lsquo, Grand Rapids&rsquo, &lsquo, Regina de Ver&atilde, o&rsquo, and &lsquo, Del&iacute, cia&rsquo, ) in two soils (Red-Yellow Latosol and Dystroferric Red Latosol) using five doses of Zn (0, 5, 10, 20, and 30 mg kg&minus, 1). At 55 days after sowing, the plants were harvested. There was an interaction among the soils, genotypes, and Zn doses. Regardless of the soil and genotype, the increase in Zn supply promoted a linear increase in shoot Zn concentration. However, shoot and root dry matter yields were differentially affected by Zn supply according to the genotype and soil type. Overall, the Red-Yellow Latosol provided a higher shoot Zn concentration but also caused greater growth damage, especially in &lsquo, was biofortified the most in Red-Yellow Latosol.

The aim of this study was to examine whether photoperiod-treated bucks have the same capacity as melatonin-treated bucks to induce reproductive responses in female goats during the spring. On 10 April, 38 anoestrous does were placed with: 1) photoperiod-treated bucks (additional light hours for 83 days from the end of the previous November; PHOTO; n=12); 2) bucks treated with exogenous melatonin at the beginning of March (MEL; n = 13); and 3) bucks that received no treatments (CONTROL; n = 13). The bucks' sexual behaviour was assessed for 10 days, and doe oestrous behaviour was recorded for the next 32 days by checking for harness marks. Ovulation was confirmed from plasma progesterone concentration (measured twice per week) and ovulation rate was assessed by transrectal ultrasonography. Fecundity, fertility, prolificacy and productivity were also determined. The percentage of does in the PHOTO, MEL and CONTROL group: 1) having ovulations was 92%, 100% and 38% respectively; 2) expressing behavioural oestrous associated with ovulation was 92%, 100% and 31%; and 3) that became pregnant was 75%, 69% and 23%, respectively. The kids produced per doe were 1.08 ± 0.23, 1.15 ± 0.25 and 0.31 ± 0.17 for the PHOTO, MEL, and CONTROL groups, respectively with there being no differences between the PHOTO and MEL groups, however, there was a difference (P < 0.05) between PHOTO/MEL and CONTROL groups. The Nunatak Viedma within the Southern Patagonian Icefield has been considered as a volcanic center based on its geomorphologic features, despite the fact that field explorations by Eric Shipton determined its metamorphic nature 70 years ago. We carried out fieldwork to characterize this isolated outcrop and performed the first U-Pb dating in detrital zircons from the basement rocks located inside the Southern Patagonian Icefield. We recognized very-low grade metamorphic rocks, corresponding principally to metapelites and metapsammites, and scarce metabasites. Detrital zircons in three metapsammitic samples (composite group of 240 grains) yielded prominent age population peaks at ∼1090, ∼960, ∼630, ∼520, ∼480–460, ∼380, ∼290–260, ∼235-225 Ma that are typical of Gondwanide affinity, and youngest grains at ∼208 Ma. Maximum depositional ages of 225, 223 and 212 Ma were calculated for each sample from the youngest cluster of ages. This distinctive and novelty Late Triassic age justifies differentiate the Nunatak Viedma Unit from the Devonian-early Carboniferous and Permian-Early Triassic (?) belts of the Eastern Andean Metamorphic Complex. Possible primary source areas for the detrital zircons are outcropping in southern Patagonia, the Antarctic Peninsula, and the Malvinas Islands. Additionally, secondary sources could be part of the erosion and recycling of metasediments from the Eastern Andean Metamorphic Complex. We propose that the cluster of Triassic ages is related to the volcanic arc emplaced along the Antarctic Peninsula and active at that time when was still attached to southern Patagonia during the Triassic. Overexploited aquifers in drylands require a thorough assessment in order to get the best insight possible of their hydrogeological behavior and groundwater resource. With this aim we develop an integrated methodology, using the northern part of the Pampa del Tamarugal Aquifer (PTA), at the Atacama Desert, Northern Chile, as testing site. This multidisciplinary assessment was completed including 34 direct piezometric measurements in boreholes, 92 geophysical soundings (TDEM) and 9 stream gauging. Main results show strong correlation between a well-defined contrast of resistivity and the water-table of the unconfined aquifer (dry unsaturated zone ≥ 100 Ω.m vs saline groundwater in the saturated zone ≈ 10 Ω.m). TDEM results helped to map the piezometric levels and reassess the limits of the PTA. The eastern limit of the aquifer, delimited up to now by the basin floor, is repositioned from 10 to 50 km eastward in the Andean Piedmont, indicating larger groundwater reserves than those described previously. A high-resistivity anomaly (∼200 Ω.m) in the apex of alluvial fans reveals that frequent flood events cause rapid flows through the coarse permeable deposits leaching the vadose zone and contributing to recharge the aquifer (temporary recharge process). However, the updated piezometric map indicates the piedmont as the area where most of the aquifer recharge takes place. In the piedmont, at the downstream of tectonic structures or substratum outcrops, stream discharge changes reveal perennial river losses contributing to a located and permanent recharge of the PTA. This groundwater recharge process would be the main contribution to the aquifer recharge. By taking into account the regional geology, the results are summarized in a new conceptual model redefining the geometry, the spatial distribution of groundwater levels, the boundary conditions and the complex recharge processes (different flow magnitudes) in the northern part of the PTA. Finally, this study indicates an integrated and efficient methodology, providing original results that are useful for the characterization of other aquifers located in arid piedmonts and hillslopes.

The objective of this article is to present an ecolinguistic conceptual model as a proposal for an ecolinguistic understanding, based on the General Systems Theory (BERTALANFFY, 1976) resignifying the concept of oikos in the ecolinguistic theory (COUTO, 2007) and considering a cultural archetype as an anchor for the ecolinguistic interpretation., El objetivo de este artículo es presentar un modelo conceptual ecolingüístico como propuesta para una comprensión ecolingüística basada en la Teoría General de Sistemas (BERTALANFFY, 1976) resignificando el concepto de oikos en la teoría ecolinguística (COUTO, 2007) y considerando un arquetipo cultural como anclaje para la interpretación ecolingüística.

Aqui se sostiene que la construccion social y administrativa del Norte Grande estaria relacionada con la politica salitrera y con la politica exterior de Chile despues de la Guerra del Pacifico. Se plantea una hipotesis sobre la importancia del “impuesto al salitre” (1880) como el inicio de la construccion social de espacio transfronterizo. En este trabajo se analizan ambas politicas publicas que, en una primera etapa —entre 1880 y 1904—, habrian coincidido al permitir que regiones transfronterizas se relacionaran con la industria salitrera a traves de circuitos de bienes y personas. En dicho periodo, el Estado chileno habria desarrollado su “politica boliviana” de distencion con ese pais y habria tenido un papel economico de Estado rentista y politicamente ausente de las regiones salitreras. Entre 1904 y 1929, esos papeles cambiarian por otros mas activos, donde las diplomacias de Bolivia y Chile inician sus litigios y las fronteras en transicion se endurecen hasta conformar los limites internacionales actuales del Norte Grande de Chile.AbstractIt is said here that the social and organizational creation of the Big North would be related to the politics of saltpetre and foreign policy of Chile after the War of the Pacific. A hypothesis is suggested about how important the “saltpetre tax” is (1880) as the beginning of the social construction of cross-border space. In this work both public policies are analysed that, during the first period between 1880 and 1904 would agree to allow the cross-border regions to be related to the saltpetre industry through the circuit of goods and people. In that period the Chilean state would develop its “Bolivian policy” of detente with that country and would have an economic role of rentier state and politically out of the saltpetre regions. Between 1904 and 1929 those roles would be changed by more active ones, where the diplomacies of Bolivia and Chile start their law suits and the borders in transition are made stricter to make up the current international borders of the Big North of Chile.Key words

International audience; Este número especial de Estudios Atacameños retoma algunos de los trabajos presentados en las Jornadas de Historia y Antropología de la minería realizadas en el Instituto de Arqueología y Antropología de la Universidad Católica del Norte, en San Pedro de Atacama, los días 27 y 28 de agosto de 2015. Las jornadas, que sumaron veintidós ponencias, fueron organizadas por los proyectos Fondecyt (Fondo Nacional de Ciencia y Tecnología, Chile) nº 11130001, 1130517 y 11110487 en el marco del Laboratorio Internacional Asociado (LIA) “Archéologie, histoire et anthropologie des systèmes miniers dans le Désert d’Atacama” del Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, CNRS, Francia, en asociación con la Universidad Católica del Norte, la Universidad de Chile, la Universidad Academia de Humanismo Cristiano y la Universidad Arturo Prat. Los artículos recibidos fueron sometidos a los protocolos de evaluación de la revista, con doble referato ciego, y retrabajados en conjunto con el comité editorial de Estudios Atacameños, a quienes manifestamos nuestro agradecimiento por esta colaboración y por el trabajo que supone mantener en pie desde hace más de cuarenta años una revista de referencia para las ciencias antropológicas en Chile, así como a la Universidad Católica del Norte y su Instituto, que la sostienen. El principal desafío de este número temático era el de intentar volver virtuosa ésta dificultad inicial y de algún modo previsible que es el diferencial entre las aproximaciones y el balance disciplinario con los que la historiografía y la antropología social se aproximan al fenómeno minero en el norte de Chile. La historia de la minería, en Chile, es un campo de estudios consolidado, que ha producido un corpus de conocimientos sólido y estructurado, con instancias y textos ya institucionalizadas en el paisaje científico nacional. La historia se ha ocupado muy explícitamente del fenómeno minero en Chile. Desde la antropología, en cambio, si bien la minería no ha dejado de insinuarse en cada uno de los terrenos trabajados, este acercamiento ha sido siempre más oblicuo o lateral: ninguna de las referencias autorizadas de la antropología chilena trata de minería, la bibliografía en antropología o etnografía del hecho minero es escasa y todo ocurre como si en general se estudiarán más los efectos de la minería sobre tal o cual sistema que la minería en sí misma como forma social, técnica o cultural. En contrapartida, ésta aproximación más lateral o descentrada sobre el fenómeno ha permitido una reflexión más insistente -y probablemente más crítica- sobre los límites de la minería, tanto en el sentido más inmediato de problematizar sus límites ambientales, sociales o culturales, como también, más ampliamente, en el de descentrar y volver problemáticas algunas categorías demasiado aplastantes - el Estado, un sujeto minero nacional, el territorio nacional… - e insistir a cambio en la heterogeneidad técnica, étnica y social que hay en cada momento implicada. El principal desafío de este número especial, entonces, era hacer de estas inclinaciones iniciales una oportunidad; es decir, por un lado, volverlas explícitas y organizar la tensión resultante y, por otro, habilitar el entremedio para que pueda pasarse con mayor facilidad de la una a la otra. Este número especial se compone de 9 artículos, que pueden leerse en tres tiempos.El primer conjunto de trabajos marca el énfasis en la minería como espacio de construcción y negociación del Estado al alero de los grandes ciclos mineros que marcaron el período 1850-1929 y reúne los trabajos de S. González Miranda y S. Leiva sobre la formación del espacio transfronterizo en el norte de Chile en el marco del gran ciclo del salitre (1880-1929), el artículo de M. Godoy Orellana sobre la periferia del Estado y las relaciones entre agentes estatales y empresarios mineros en Taltal (1850-1900) y el artículo de P. Artaza en torno a la ambigüedad de las políticas de ‘Bienestar’ en el norte salitrero (1920) leídas también como nuevas formas de control social. El segundo conjunto de artículos pone el foco en las relaciones interétnicas y en la minería como espacio de construcción y negociación de categorías y trayectorias sociales, centrándose en el estudio de espacios mineros más periféricos (Tacora, Quillagua, Salar de Atacama) a lo largo del siglo 20. Lo componen los artículos de A. Díaz, P. Salazar y D. Soto sobre la identidad y movilidad social de los obreros en las azufreras de Tacora, el artículo de J. Carmona Yost sobre el ocaso agrícola de Quillagua y el artículo de H. Morales y R. Azócar sobre relaciones interétnicas y minería en Atacama.El tercer conjunto reúne trabajos que se concentran en la Puna y desierto de altura, en el triángulo mecánico, económico y social que organizan las tres ciudades coetáneas de Uyuni, Calama y Abra Pampa, iluminando las nuevas formas de movilidad y organización territorial que acompañan el despliegue de los sistemas técnico-mecánicos de Huanchaca, Chuquicamata o El Aguilar. Lo componen el artículo de M Parodi y A. Benedetti sobre minería y descampesinización a partir de las trayectorias de cuatro mineros de El Aguilar, el de D. National audience; Grazing management is known to affect dairy cow performance. Two meta-analyses of the literature were performed for reviewing the effects of either herbage allowance (kg DM/cow/day, studied at a given herbage mass) or pre-grazing herbage mass (kg DM/ha, studied at a given herbage allowance) on pasture intake, milk production and grazing behaviour of dairy cows under rotational grazing management. The height at which pasture is cut (0 vs 3 cm vs 5 cm above ground level) to estimate pre-grazing herbage mass was considered as a primary factor explaining the variability of cow responses. The curvilinear relationships describing the effects of herbage allowance on herbage intake and milk production were conceptually similar whatever the methodology of herbage sampling (cutting height), even if equations parameters are specific to each cutting height. Herbage intake and milk production variations were related to herbage intake rate rather than to grazing time variations. The effect of pre-grazing herbage mass on herbage intake, herbage intake rate and milk production depends on the methodology of herbage sampling: it is positive, null or negative depending on whether the cutting height is at ground level, above 3 cm or above 5 cm from ground level, respectively. Herbage allowance measured above 3 cm is the best predictor of cow performance because it is independent of pre-grazing herbage mass. These results allow better understanding and predicting of the effects of grazing management on performance of rotationally grazing dairy cows.; En pâturage tournant, la gestion du pâturage par les éleveurs détermine en partie les performances des vaches laitières et la valorisation de l’herbe. Deux méta-analyses de la littérature ont été réalisées afin de définir les effets respectifs de la quantité d’herbe offerte (exprimée en kg MS/vache/jour, étudiée à même biomasse d’herbe) et de la biomasse d’herbe (exprimée en kg MS/ha, étudiée à même quantité d’herbe offerte) sur l’ingestion, la production laitière et le comportement alimentaire des vaches. La hauteur à laquelle l’herbe est coupée (0, 2-3 ou 5 cm au-dessus du sol) pour estimer la biomasse d’herbe a été considérée comme un facteur explicatif clé de la variabilité des réponses des vaches. Les relations curvilinéaires décrivant les effets de la quantité d’herbe offerte sur l’ingestion et la production laitière sont conceptuellement identiques et indépendantes de la méthodologie de prélèvement de l’herbe (hauteur de coupe), même si les paramètres des équations restent spécifiques à chaque méthodologie. Les variations d’ingestion et de production laitière sont reliées à des variations importantes de la vitesse d’ingestion, mais peu à celles de la durée d’ingestion. L’effet de la biomasse d’herbe sur l’ingestion, la production laitière et la vitesse d’ingestion est inféodé à la méthodologie de prélèvement de l’herbe (hauteur de coupe) : il peut être positif, nul ou négatif selon la hauteur de coupe de l’herbe choisie (0, 3 ou 5 cm). La quantité d’herbe offerte au- dessus de 3 cm est le meilleur prédicteur des performances des vaches, car elle ne dépend pas de la biomasse d’herbe. Ces résultats permettent de mieux comprendre et prévoir les effets des pratiques sur les performances des vaches laitières en pâturage tournant.

Partie 5 "Quinoa crop in Andean countries", chapitre 5.4. Cet ouvrage a été conçu dans le cadre de l'Année Internationale du Quinoa (FAO) en 2013; International audience; The biogeography of quinoa (Chenopodium quinua Willd.) provides a comprehensive view of a crop that is relatively minor in Chilean agriculture, despite growing in a large geographical area (18°–47°S). Quinoa’s genetic diversity illustrates that it is a vital crop in the South American Andes region. It was domesticated in various geographical zones, which generated a wide variety of adaptative morphological and environmental features. Specific adaptations in each macrozone throughout the Andes have created five ecotypes, associated with subcentres of diversity. Two ecotypes are present in Chile – quinoa from the salt flats in the country’s extreme north: Salare quinoa, and quinoa from sea-level areas in the central and south central regions: Coastal quinoa. Recently, these ecotypes have been associated with diverse production systems, depending on their biophysical, social and cultural features. Public policies and market relations also play a vital role in determining production system dynamics.

espanolLa historia del salitre se comenzo a escribir desde el siglo XIX, utilizandose materiales mas o menos diversos, ubicados tanto en bibliotecas y archivos tradicionales como en archivos personales. Basandose en estas fuentes se escribio, durante mucho tiempo, una historia centrada en reproducir y contextualizar el contenido del hallazgo documental. Posteriormente, en paralelo con el desarrollo de la disciplina historica y junto a los nuevos enfoques teoricos, se registro tanto un aumento como una diversificacion en las fuentes disponibles para el analisis de la industria y sociedad salitreras. Proceso este ultimo que se vio expandido por programas de investigacion historiografica sobre el ciclo de expansion del nitrato que, en su esfuerzo de renovacion tematica y teorica, se plantean nuevos problemas e hipotesis mas audaces que habian quedado excluidos de la historia tradicional del salitre -como la memoria, la vida privada y la microhistoria-, obligando a los investigadores a la tarea de crear archivos nuevos para dar respuestas a esos problemas e hipotesis. En este articulo se analizan dos archivos creados para el estudio de la sociedad del salitre: uno referido a entrevistas de Hombres y Mujeres de la Pampa, y otro a cartas encontradas en los basurales del desierto, denominado Pampa Escrita. EnglishThe History of Nitrate started in the nineteenth century, using more or less diverse materials, located in libraries and in both traditional and private archives. On the basis of these sources a history was written, for a long time, focused on reproducing and contextualizing the content of the documentary find. Subsequently, in parallel to the development of the historic discipline and together with new theoretical approaches, it was registered both an increase and a diversification of the sources available for the analysis of the industry and nitrate societies. Process that was spread by programmes of historiographic research on the expansion cycle of nitrate that, in its effort of thematic and theoretical updating, new problems and more daring hypothesis are arisen that had been excluded from the traditional history of nitrate -such as memory, private life and microhistory-, forcing researchers to create new archives to provide answers to those problems and hypothesis. In this article two archives are analysed created to study the nitrate society: one referred to interviews of Hombres y Mujeres de la Pampa, and the other related to letters found in the garbage dumps of the desert, known as Pampa Escrita.

Partie 5 "Contexto del cultivo en su área originaria", chapitre 5.4. Cet ouvrage a été conçu dans le cadre de l'Année Internationale du Quinoa (FAO) en 2013; International audience; La biogeografía de la quinua (Chenopodium quinua Willd.) presenta una visión global de un cultivo menor en la agricultura chilena que tiene una amplia extensión geográfica (18°S-47°S). Su alta diversidad genética demuestra que es una de las especies de mayor importancia en Los Andes de Sudamérica. El proceso de domesticación de la quinua se ha realizado en distintas zonas geográficas, lo cual ha significado la existencia de una amplia variación de caracteres morfológicos y de adaptación medioambiental. Las adaptaciones particulares, en diferentes macro zonas a lo largo de Los Andes, han generado cinco ecotipos, asociados a sub-centros de diversidad. Chile cuenta con dos ecotipos, la quinua de los salares en el extremo norte del país y la quinua de la costa o de nivel del mar en la zona centro y centro-sur. Asimismo, estos ecotipos han sido recientemente asociados a la diversidad de sistemas de producción considerando aspectos biofísicos, sociales y culturales. Sin olvidar la influencia de las políticas públicas en la dinámica de los sistemas de producción como así también de las relaciones con los mercados.

Las actividades laborales sobre 3500m en Chile, en exposición intermitente, comprenden minería y acciones gubernamentales e involucra alrededor de 50.000 personas. Representan una fuente de ingresos y también obligaciones del Estado. Enfatizándose que cada día es más frecuente la incorporación de sujetos jóvenes. Los fenómenos biomédicos, que generados tienen un impacto cuantificable en la salud humana como en la productividad y requieren una preocupación por su relevancia económica, laboral y de salud publica. A pesar del grado de conocimiento alcanzado, persisten interrogantes, en especial en el grupo de sujetos propuestos para el estudio, tales como: identificar los grupos de riesgo, disminuir los efectos, el seguimiento, control y que los diferencia. Los elementos o parámetros que actualmente se consideran no han logrado un consenso ni la evidencia científica suficiente. Para responder lo anterior se ha diseñado un estudio de cohorte única de sujetos jóvenes, vírgenes a la altura, expuestos a hipoxia crónica intermitente para identificar parámetros biomédicos y fisiológicos que permitan caracterizar o conglomerar a grupos de riesgo o deficiente aclimatación y establecer elementos de seguimiento. Los resultados debieran permitir conocer y caracterizar efectos de altura en sujetos jóvenes, el comportamiento de ciertas variables, un score de aclimatación y de seguimiento. Depuis 1973 Chili a initié une politique economique néoliberale. Ce modèle économique a affecté l'éducation, la santé et toutes les activités économiques y compris l'agriculture. Sans planification les revenus par habitant ont beaucoup augmenté (US$14510/par an/per capita) par rapport aux autres pays de l'Amerique Latine, mais la distribution des salaires est devenue extrêmement inégale (Gini coef.=0.55). La distribution de la proprieté de la terre suit une courbe encore pire (Gini Coeff.=0.95 dans certaines régions). Les agricultures à échelle locale, ou agricultures familiales, reçoivent peu d'aide de l'Etat. Progressivement les terres sont vendues et rapidement transformées en monocultures d'exportation. Les agriculteurs deviennent alors des travailleurs de l'agroindustrie. Le quinoa (Chenopodium quinoa) est une plante très nutritive, cultivée depuis 7 mille ans dans les Andes. Bien qu'ayant disparu lors de la conquête espagnole il a pu être transmis par les Incas aux cultures chiliennes, à des groupes de population vivant dans des contextes agroécologiques très variés entre le 18°S (altiplano) jusqu'au 41ºS (Ile de Chiloé). La culture du quinoa s'est maintenue dans des zones isolées où l'accessibilité par route était impossible durant l'hiver, là où les supermarchés ne pouvaient pas s'établir. Le quinoa est devenu un aliment de base pour ces populations et il a échappé à l'agriculture de marché qui ne favorisait pas sa culture. Les 1470 hectares du quinoa au Chili (2007) pourraient augmenter comme pour le Pérou, l'Équateur ou la Bolivie qui cultivent plus de 54 milles hectares de sous la certification biologique pour l'exportation. Ce scénario moderne pourrait aider à réactiver sa culture au Chili. Mais l'absence d'organisations paysannes constitue un frein important. La biodiversité de récolte est mal connue et la culture de masse pourrait plus loin la réduire à moins que de la connaissance de cette diversité pourrait aider à créer la conscience de son importance. La diversité biologique est très mal connue pour cette plante et si la surface cultivée augmente la diversité génétique pourrait encore diminuer, à moins que la reconnaissance/recherche-action de sa diversité génétique élevée aide à prendre conscience de son importance.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2006-07-01 This paper describes the karyotype of Odontesthes regia by means of Giemsa staining, C-banding, to reveal the distribution of the constitutive heterochromatin, and by Ag-staining and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), to locate ribosomal genes (rDNA). The chromosome diploid modal count in the species was 2n = 48. The karyotype is composed of one submetacentric pair (pair 1), 16 subtelocentric pairs (pairs 2 to 17), and 7 acrocentric pairs (pairs 18 to 24). With the exception of pair 1 it was not possible to classify the homologous chromosomes accurately because differences in chromosome size were too slight between adjacent pairs. The distribution of C-banded heterochromatin allowed for a more accurate matching of the majority of chromosomes of the subtelocentric series. Silver staining of metaphase spreads allowed for the identification of Nucleolus Organizer Regions (Ag-NOR) on pair 1. FISH experiments showed that 18S rDNA sequences were located, as expected, in the same chromosome pair identified as the Ag-NOR-bearing one.
