The call of the species has been previously described, but recently gathered data revealed an unreported acoustic unit that we describe herein. Intraspecific variation within the species call was also updated based on an increased sample size. The call is composed of two types of multipulsed notes: a short note, which is in agreement with the previous description, and a trill note that is emitted in association with the short note. The trill note was likely not reported in the previous description because of the small sample size. Further studies should elucidate the social function of the trill note. Acoustic units somewhat resembling the trill note are shared by a few other Scinax species, but the nomenclatural instability of these calls hamper detailed comparisons. This highlights the need for a standardized and comparative acoustic analysis to elucidate homologous and comparable acoustic units among the bromeligenous Scinax species. No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2021-07-21 Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP) The objective of this study is to report the first occurrences of three species from the genus Lysmata Risso, 1816 in an area of the Queimada Grande Island (QGI), a conservation unit on the southern coast of Sao Paulo, southeastern Brazil. The specimens were sampled manually in August 2018 from a small rocky formation from the QGI region. The species Lysmata bahia Rhyne and Lin, 2006, Lysmata uncicornis Holthuis and Maruin, 1952, and Lysmata vittata (Stimpson, 1860) are reported, of which the last two are not native to the Western Atlantic waters. The present study reports L. uncicornis for the first time on the coast of Sao Paulo State. The records informed herein not only provide more information about biodiversity, but can also help in the development of management plans and conservation. Mycobacteriosis is a bacterial disease of animal and human importance. Mycobacterium gordonae infects the skin and internal organs of free-ranging amphibians and is considered the least pathogenic member of the Mycobacteriaceae to humans. However, information about its infection and pathogenesis in wild amphibians is still lacking. A total of 1306 amphibian specimens belonging to 6 families, 12 genera, and 21 species were collected and dissected during a helminthological survey of 7 municipalities in southern Ceara state, Caatinga (eco)region, northeast Brazil. Of these, 17 specimens (0.76%), belonging to 2 families and 4 species (Leptodactylus macrosternum, n = 2; L. vastus, n = 10; Pseudopaludicola pocoto, n = 2; Rhinella jimi, n = 3), presented infections that consisted of calcification nodules in the coelomic cavity, kidney, liver, lung, gut, and pancreas. The nodules were examined by histopathology and PCR. The bacteria were identified as M. gordonae by molecular analyses. Infected animals presented with hepatocellular vacuolar degeneration, karyolysis, and karyorrhexis, hepatic portal congestion, hemorrhage, mononuclear cellular infiltration, melanomacrophage center hyperplasia, and granulomas in varying stages of development with intralesional acid-fast bacilli. This study is the first report of M. gordonae in these amphibian species, in which results of molecular analyses confirmed the presence of M. gordonae in natural environments and histopathology confirmed the typical lesion of mycobacteriosis in amphibians from northeastern Brazil. Examining major patterns within and across frog taxa may help to delimit species and understand acoustic communication systems. Herein, the vocalization of Vitreorana baliomma is described and new acoustic descriptions are provided for V. franciscana and V. eurygnatha. Calls of syntopic/sympatric or allopatric populations were compared. The vocalization of V. baliomma is composed of two call types-A and B, with Call A being the advertisement call. The vocalization of V. franciscana is composed of only one call type (Call A), emitted isolated or in series. The vocalization of V. eurygnatha has two types of calls; Call A is similar among Cerrado populations, whereas an Atlantic Forest population has a distinct Call A pattern. The calls of each of these species of the present study is pulsed; however, the calls differ in call duration, pulse organization, or pulse duration, and these differences seem to reflect the allopatric or sympatric/syntopic occurrences of populations. The unique call pattern of the Atlantic Forest population of V. eurygnatha may represent the advertisement call of the nominal species, and the distinct call of the Cerrado population may indicate cryptic diversity in the species. This study aimed to evaluate the quality of an Oxisol under conventional tillage (CT) and no-tillage system (NT), through different physical indicators. The management systems were: CT and NT for seven or eight consecutive years (medium textured soil) and CT and NT by nine and ten consecutive years (clay soil). Were determined, at the layers 0-0.10, 0.10-0.20; 0.20-0.30 m, soil resistance to penetration, total soil porosity, macroporosity and microporosity, soil water retention, S index, soil bulk density, maximum density and relative bulk density. Was observed great variation of soil resistance to penetration throughout the soybean and corn cycles, with its highest values were found in the surface layers. The NT showed greater resistance to penetration. Among the management systems, the results against indicators of soil physical quality were similar.
